This man knows his stuff. This course was incredibly hard...not because of him, but the content. However, he taught it well. If you want to learn something, take a course by him.
meanest man alive
All this guy talks about is pizza and the Dodgers
Can't believe some of these bad comments; yeah, he is strict and hard, but he is very fair and he is definitly not mean; he never said anything about pizza and Dodgers in my class; he really tries to make things understandable; he encourages students to think for themselves and ask questions.
I was extremely impressed by how well this guy was able to explain the content - philosophy is not easy to understand. I can't believe some students thought he was mean (that's probably their immaturity)! I thought he was a very helpful teacher and definitely the best one I've ever had.
very smart prof.. will help u if u need him. good teacher
Mr. Foreman is a professor who does not treat his students like babies. He understand he teached COLLEGE and treats the students like ADULTS. NO easy way out here- but a great man! He knows his stuff, has a passion for the material and the students, and truly cares about his students. One of the best profs at LU DEFINITELY!
Great teacher! He knew his stuff well and could explain it. The test do take studying, but as long as you understand the material then they aren't that hard.
He makes Philosophy as interesting as it can be and seems to really enjoy teaching the subject. The tests aren't that hard if you study and he's very fair with grading. He likes to get the students involved and is always open to others opinions. Great professor!

he's an awesome professor-if you need any help at all he'll try and help you understand the material and get a better grade...as long as you read the chapters and just go over the notes, his tests are a piece of cake
If you are looking for an easy class, take Beck. Foreman's tests are very difficult to study for (all essay in the honors section) and there are constant written homework assignments. That said, you will probably learn more about Philosophy with Foreman. He does a commendable job explaining difficult material, and he is kind and willing to help.
Mark Foreman has taught me a lot about Philosophy! He's great and I enjoyed every moment spent viewing his lectures and taking his exams.... Thank you Professor Mark Foreman! May God continue to Bless you....
best lsat prep class you can take. the tests are very similar to the things you'll need to know for the argumentation sections on the lsat. if his class comes easy to you that's a good sign that you'll do good on the lsat. attendance is important, he will not appreciate it if you miss a lot of class for debate.
He is a great teacher, tries his best to explain the subject but his tests are still difficult. He will work with people who want to learn.
Mr. Foreman was heavy on the homework load (both reading and writing). And his essay exams (two, the only two tests in the whole semester) he graded very...roughly. All in all, though, he is extremely good at helping you understand, and is a very kind man besides. If you are looking for a challenge, and truly want to learn, take him. But isn't easy
Dr. Foreman was a great professor for Philosophy, despite the fact that I failed the class. The honors course has really difficult tests, but the class lectures seem more enjoyable and interactive. If you take him for honors, be prepared to prove that you're worthy to stay in the honors program. :D
Great guy and instructor! He makes it interesting
Awesome instructor. He is very clear about the subject, makes it easy to understand and is very helpful. A true man of integrity. Even if you don't need to take the class, take BioMedical Ethics. It is worth your time and will open your eyes and really make you think. This is not your typical Philosophy class, ver little philosophy in it actually.
What a passionate teacher ! Made Philosophy fascinating to me. Great classroom discussion and he really challenges you to not only know what you believe, but why you believe it. His tests are hard, but fair, he gives you a detailed study guide-USE IT. Don't expect to cram for tests, you need to constantly be studying, he tests your knowledge.
He was one of my favorite professors. If you are taking him for honors, be prepared to do a lot of work... 20 one page papers, a presentation, two essay tests, and an 8 page paper... but it is worth it. I learned so much from being in his class. Great professor.
this is a tough class. But he makes you think.
Prof 4man is awesome! He made class interesting and fun! The two big things are an 8 page paper and a presentation. The presentations were fun though! There's one each week, and Foreman lets you bring snacks, wear a costume, etc- he loves it when you're creative! The tests weren't that hard. The one page papers due each week were a piece of cake.
Dr. Foreman is a great professor. He always takes time to answer your questions, loves class debate, and overall is very fun to have. He only does Essay tests so if u dont like essays dont take him but he gives you the possible questions before hand. I loved his class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Dr. Foreman is awesome. This was a great class as well. He really explained all the arguments well and encouraged class discussion. Essay tests are his thing, but I thought it was a good way to learn the material. You should take him.
This is a very difficult class, especially when taken via distance learning. He flat out announces that he has made the course so the majority of students will get a "C". Frustrating.
Oh what a great teacher. He really made philosophy fascinating. I miss his class and wish I could take it again.
Excellent prof. He is very knowledgeable and is willing to help you with anything. There are two tests (4 question essay), a presentation, 20 reading responses (cake, just turn them in), and a 7-10 page paper. Do the responses, write a good paper, ASSESS in your presentation, know what you're talking about for the tests = A. GREAT prof, take him!
Good overall. A little entertaining. Presents some fairly difficult concepts well
The class is very difficult if taken on line. The test are very difficult.
Great professor. Took his class via distance learning.
Gives a FANTASTIC overview of the evidences for Christianity and will make even the most skeptical Christian much more comfortable in the rationality of the Christian view. Makes extremely difficult and complicated argument understandable, and is very knowledgeable on the topics. Also an understanding and helpful teacher.
This Professor is great! He really knows his stuff and he teaches the materials very well. He says "mmkay" a lot, but you get used to it. I definitely recommend him.
Format of class is terrible. While he seems pretty knowledgeable he seems to forget that not everyone is a philosopher nor has a desire to obsessed with debating philosophy. I can appreciate good critical thinking, but everything was so unorganized it was almost impossible to accomplish. I do not recommend Liberty if you're hoping to study philosophy. (luckily I'm not)
I had him for the Honor's section. The class was a lot of work, but the essay tests were not too hard. He moved fast and had a unique ability to make students feel inadequate, but I did learn a lot.
A lot of work and a tough class
Best prof I have had at LU.
One of the best professors I've had at Liberty. Incredibly smart, very engaging, and extremely interesting. If you ever have the chance, even if you hate philosophy, you should take a course with Foreman.
One of the best professors I've had at Liberty. I had him for an honors course. He's engaging and extremely knowledgeable. He makes a mandatory course fascinating. If you have the chance, take Foreman!
He is very good at what he does. He actually knows how to teach people, not just teach material. One of my favorite profs at Liberty. And "Christian Evidences" is a course that every student at Liberty should take--it is the most effective at apologetically equipping Christians for talking with a secular world.
I've read all the ratings. Yes, phil. is hard. You actually have to work and think, which most of us would rather not do. But Foreman is excellent at making philosophy clear and interesting. His examples really help. Work at it & you might find you enjoy it. I took this online & was dreading it, but found I really learned some interesting things.
Foreman is wonderful! He makes philosophy interesting and is excellent at explaining difficult concepts.
I am a Nursing major. I took Phil 201 online. It required 5 textbooks - and we read them all. Forget being able to think about what you are reading. I am normally an honors student - and work for my grades... but this fell under the status of horrific for online studies. I do not recommend Liberty online for philosophy. Take it anywhere else.
I took this class online as I work full time. I was more interested in philosophy prior to taking the course. On any given week you'll have 3-5 chapters to read along with 2-3 video and/or powerpoint presentations. This class should be taken alone, not with another course as the workload was too intense.
I will say that this was one of the worst courses at Liberty that I have taken. The course load was daunting, I spent 2+ hours a day reading and studying to barley scrape by with a C. I am a very good student and this class was ridiculous! Most of the reading material was very difficult to understand and most of the time I was lost.
The amount of quizzes he makes students take is ridiculous. There are 30 quizzes per semester which make up a large portion of the final grade. I know others who are taking philosophy with a different professor and only have 10 quizzes. Additionally he makes students feel inadequate, I don't recommend foreman at all.
Philosophy 201 with Foreman is, to date, one of my favorite classes at Liberty so far. Foreman is engaging, easy to listen to, and excellent at explaining tough concepts. I LOVE Foreman and recommend everyone to take him. He makes you work for the A but it is sooo worth it!! Don't skip class, don't skip reading, don't complain--this guy is awesome!
Whew. I loved this class, but I won't lie and say it's easy. Be prepared to not just read, but *study* what you read. Foreman is funny and very nice, but you'll prob deal more with your group leader. Lectures followrepeat reading assignments. Clear instructions for DBs. Quizletnotecardsyour bff. NO EXTRA CREDIT, so start off strong!
Great at giving lectures and making subject areas clear. This is a hard class so you may need to schedule extra study times.
You have to be an idiot not to be able to pass his Phil 101. He does a great job with it.
Dr. Foreman is a very good professor. He knows his material. He is very personable, and the students love him.
This class is horrible. The workload is ridiculous for a prerequisite class. It's hard to understand all the concepts, the tests are so in depth and there are 30+ quizzes that make up a huge part of your grade
His test are the devil.
Course is incredibly difficult and there a massive amount of reading. You also have quizzes once a week that are hard and worth a big portion of your grade. Take it somewhere else if you can.
Dr. Foreman is a pretty tough professor, but he is very clear. If you take notes through his lectures and study, passing is easy. He does assign a quiz that's due before every class and there is a lot of reading, but overall, the material is pretty basic and useful.
Even if you read all the material.. you still won't pass his quizzes. Books are long and boring especially the one that he wrote. He also doesn't want to talk to anyone; any contact with him will be done through his break-out teachers. Worst class I've ever taken. Don't worry if you get sleepy during his lectures, everyone is right there with you.
This was a fantastic class! Mark Foreman lectures are very informative and he uses a lot of good examples. He has the gift to make philosophy make sense. He is also really enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable. Tests are hard so study up! Quizzes are hard too even though they are open book. He makes work for your grade.
Great teacher. You must pay attention though. Read the material and study. You have to actually understand the concepts to pass not merely memorize them.
He is disrespectful, and rude to any questions asked.
He is a very good teacher, very knowledgeable. I found his lectures interesting. Their are an overall of 5 tests which can be very hard if you don't put in the time to study. For me it seems that the quizzes are challenging, but they are open book. And I love Nathan Dowell as a GSA .
I loved Dr. Foremans class. He has such a passion for philosophy it made me love it. He provides study guides for each test, so as long as you study them and know everything on them, you'll get an A. I never went into a test not knowing what to expect. I also loved my GA, Matt, he did a great job during break out sessions. Highly recommend both.
This class is super one sided and in all honesty can be considered an apologetics and theology course. I was very disappointed because I was excited to learn about the philosophy of all the world views.
Horrible teacher. The quizzes don't match up with the assigned reading, the tests are very hard. On top of that he can't even finish his material and sends us stuff and says learn it on your own. Also is very dry
Professor Foreman is a really great Philosophy instructor. I dreaded Philosophy class because it has such a bad rep but he really brought the subject to life through his real-life examples/applications and short videos, both of which helped explain different concepts. I could tell he was passionate and knowledgeable about the subject! He is great.
he is such hard grader there is no point of this quiz they don't even add up to the grade it makes no difference. Plus his test are hard and you have to read the entire book just get by. He is so rude. He never listens to students or even wants to talk them. I wonder why he is teaching in the first place. Take this course online.
It will be all you can do to pass this course, so be ready to put in the hours.
Dr. Foreman is a really great teacher. In the honors course, he mostly facilitates while he calls on students to answer questions. You can have a page of notes for reference but it is for a participation grade so make sure you read. A bit everyday and it doesn't seem like that much. His tests are hard but, if you study, not unbearable.
Great professor. Love him. The meek and thin skinned be warned: if you try to argue in class, he'll shoot you down if you aren't prepared.
Makes me laugh when people complain about reading. Like. It's a good thing to read something that isn't Instagram people. This is philosophy. If it were easy, more people would be philosophers.
Dr. Foreman is a great professor, and manages to explain difficult subjects in an understandable way. He may seem tough at first, but if you're willing to talk with him he is more than willing to help you with the course. Try not to miss class. Also, be prepared to do a lot of homework.
Great teacher, really makes you think about big issues.
Great prof.
He is very respectful to students when talking to them. Class was unnecessarily hard, no matter how hard I studied, I could not pass a quiz. For such a meaningless class, had to put a lot of effort. Whatever you do, TAKE RSCH 201 ONLINE!
Did not like how he taught. His ideas were always on the test and most important.
The textbook for RSCH 201 sucked so it wasn't Dr. Foreman's entire fault that this class is so dysfunctional. We had tophat quizzes every day. You have only one minute per question, and some of the questions were fill-in-the-blanks. It was very hard to type long answers on time. The quizzes were ten questions and ten points each. Plus six papers
So first off, the book required was garbage. That is not on the professor, just thought you should know. There was a quiz EVERY day and three papers that only got worse as the semester went on. He requires you to print everything and bring it to class which ran me around $40 by the end of the semester. I'd say find someone else for RSCH.
We had a quiz before class every day which was open notes. Usually that would help a student's grade, but there were times that I could not find the answers. The tests are very difficult, and he is happy when the class average is a 78. This class is lecture only. I never thought a GenEd would affect my GPA so much.
Great professor. Sorry guys, it's college, you have to read and do quizzes. Plus it's philosophy, which isn't an easy subject. Dr. Foreman is very knowledgeable and makes the material as easy to understand as possible. I've taken him for two classes and I've done well in both. Do the work, you should be fine. Best professor in the department.
He does not do his own grading; he pays someone else to do it. Grades are not posted quickly by any means which therefore means that often times you have an assignment due before the one before it is graded. This makes it difficult to know how to improve your essays if you don't know how you did on the first one.
Really good at breaking down concepts that have the potential to be complicated and hard to understand. I really enjoyed his class, it was very insightful. My one qualm is that he does not reply to emails in a timely fashion.
Dr. Foreman was pretty unwilling to hear differing opinions, which was very unfortunate for a philosophy class. He cared more about spewing his own opinions than giving students the chance to engage with philosophy for the first time. Also, there are lots of readings and quizzes, but if you do them, it's a fairly easy A.
Dr. Foreman has an unreasonable amount of quizzes because every time you meet you take at least two. I understand college means reading but it's unfair to think a student has this much time to dedicate to one course, especially because this class is mostly geared towards medical degrees. He is also very condescending towards other people's opinions
Don't bother. He doesn't care about any opinions that are not his own and say that 'you cannot defend that' The class itself isn't too hard, do the study guides and memorize it cause that's the entire test. Also read the quizzes front to back, he's very specific on the questions and they make up a large part of your grade. Boring class. Not a fan.
Dr. Foreman is very knowledgeable about what he teaches, however he is perhaps one of the rudest professors I have ever encountered. He has little patience when it comes to clarifying questions and even though he says he "welcomes" other's views, he is very quick to make you look stupid in front of the class.
I'm baffled by the ones saying he doesn't let others have their veiws. I found him to be one of the most open-minded professors at LU. The reason people may feel like their opinion has no weight is because he is very good at finding holes in other arguments. The man is a master philosopher and has solid reasoning behind his views. And he isn't rude
Be ready to work for your grade in this class. He said specifically that he grades everyone starting at a C and above average is a B, and that if you are an excellent, superb student you will earn an A and that is what creates the bell curve. He gives you 2 quizzes per 2.5 hour class that he purposely tries to trick you on.
