Good teacher for anyone considering medical fields. He uses a lot of relevant examples to illustrate concepts and works hard to make sure students understand the material. Nice guy, responsive to students' needs, does good exam review. Tests are reasonably challenging without being too easy/hard/demoralizing.
Dr Foret is such an amazing teacher. He is a physician and is a must have teacher if you are going into nursing. Everything you learn he explains in terms of human anatomy and physiology. It makes your next class feel like review. He is very bright, does not pick favorites, cares about all his students, and wants you to succeed.
Thanks Dr Foret for explaining things so well! It shows in my grades and common understanding of things. Someone said today they had an upper respiratory infection and I was able to correct them and explain why it was a lower respiratory infection! I felt so proud of myself!
I would just like to say that Dr. Foret has made this course interesting. He makes it very understandable. He also is available whenever you need questions answered or would just like to talk about anatomy in general. I would highly recommend taking Dr. Foret's course in anatomy and physiology. He is an awesome instructor/Dr/person!!
Excellent teacher, first class I have taken in a very long time & I am amazed at all I've learned! Didn't realize how interesting it would be. His lectures explain things very clearly & he is very helpful if you need it. I would recommend him for any bio class.
Very good professor, especially if you are going into a medical profession, or primarily interested in anatomy and physiology. Gave very good examples in class that helped you relate the material to real life situations. His background as a medical doctor was very useful with this. The class was clear cut and straight forward. Recommend him highly.
Dr. Foret is a great teacher to have. He is friendly, he genuinely cares about all of his students, but most importantly he makes class interesting and engaging. He is always telling stories of first hand experiences he had in medical school. Some are funny others are educational. He likes to joke, and overall was a very enjoyable professor to have
I could not imagine taking BIO 101 from any other instructor. I've never seen a professor try so hard to help his students succeed. Email responses and exam grades were prompt. Questions were encouraged and answered. Exam lectures were well-organized and easy to follow. I would highly, highly recommend him to anyone who needs the course.
Dr. Foret is by far the best professor i have had the pleasure of learning from at Washtenaw Community College. I have met few who genuinely care about his students. He was able to tell myself what scores i received on tests off the top of his head. That shows interest in his students grades.Very intelligent man who can explain subjects in many ways.
Dr. Foret is an excellent instructor. He is clear, engaging, and fair. If you are taking BIO 111 at WCC, take it with him. The only grievance I'd make which you might say is not a grievance at all, is that he could made the class more difficult. I could be biased, I did well. That said his skills as an instructor are exceptional.
Dr. Foret is a totally worthwhile instructor. Humble, funny, personable, intelligent. Knows all of his students' names by like day 2. No homework (but definitely study!) and moderate difficulty multiple choice tests (takes exam straight from review). Lots of good stories, will keep you entertained an engaged in the subject. Highly recommend.
Dr. Foret is a great teacher. I learned so much about anatomy from him. Just don't get stuck in his lab section. He has a great sense of humor and has good stories. He helps you succeed in the class and answers questions very well.
Dr. Foret's A&P class was the highlight of my time at WCC. He is very enthusiastic, and available for help. There is no trickery - all of the material tested on is covered in lecture! It is also not too much at once, making an A in the class attainable without making yourself crazy. Will definitely inspire appreciation for A&P.
Awesome teacher, stellar human being. I am a long-time student, and have found that professors of this caliber are sadly few and far between. A&P is not the easiest subject, so although you won't be "marked down" for missing class, you'll miss the material if you do! Funny guy, very relatable, no trickery, straight-forward. Highly recommend Foret.
Great professor! He is a doctor, so if you learn best with real life scenarios, you will enjoy this class and his teaching style. :)
Best class I have ever had. He has these motivational speeches in the middle of class that allow you to reflect on yourself. His test are tricky, but if you're wiling to put the time to study you'll do fine :)High misses saved my grade.
Dr. Foret is an amazing teacher. His class is enjoyable and if you put in the effort you can not fail. He is willing to answer any questions and really cares about his students. I hope I can continue to take classes taught by him!
Great professor, would recommend to anyone going into the health field.
I have taken a lot of college courses, and he is by far the best professor I have ever had. He makes the class interesting, and he truly cares about his students.
He wrote an awesome letter of recommendation for me. He was very helpful and got back to be very quickly.
I took this his class back in 2010/2011 and it was great. He's an actual MD and has some great stories about "real life" situations. Real nice, easy to approach and offers to write recommendation letters.
Such a genuine individual. Nothing but smiles from this man. He's not one of those instructors that thinks they're more intelligent and you just have to know what they know. He simplifies things and understands that everyone learns differently. Greatest Biology instructors are at Washtenaw and i'm one picky guy when it comes to MY education.
Used everyday life to explain material, and was a very personable and approachable guy. Such a genuine man, who truly wants his students to succeed. Encourages questions and comments, and always answers them with clarity. Best teacher I have had in my entire academic career. Class was always enjoyable, and I learned more than I thought I would.
Dr. Foret made class educational and entertaining. He has a way of teaching that makes the subject make sense.
Dr. Foret takes the time to get to know his students. He wants you to succeed; he wants you to learn the material; he wants you to get something out of the time you spend with him.
Dr. Foret is by far the best instructor I've had. His lectures will leave you wanting more. There's nothing better than learning from someone who is truly passionate about teaching, has a good sense of humor, and encourages their students. He's also an MD so he knows his stuff. If you want the best, you can't go wrong in choosing Dr. Foret.
Dr. Foret made class educational and entertaining. He truly does care about his students. He knew everyone in the classes names by the 1st week. I never had an instructor that cares about his students the way he does. strongly recommend him.
Will keep you the full time for class, never lets us out early, grade based on tests and attendance for lab, no extra credit.. Must buy the book won't pass test w/o it.. He should give study guides because he doesn't explain what will be on the tests besides the chapters covered, answers questions, barely did lab activities he talks the whole class
One of the most caring professors I've had. Knows each of his students by name and is willing to give extra help so anyone can pass his class. Uses real life examples because he is an MD which I found to be very helpful when learning. Pay attention in class and you'll be fine on tests. Lab quizzes were more difficult than tests I found.
Dr. Foret is fantastic. His class is not easy, however, I knew exactly what to expect on the exams and how to prepare for them. He obviously cares very much about his pupils and wants you to succeed. He brings personality to the material; brings it to life, so to speak. He also offers insights to anyone undecided as to there career path in bio.
I took this class with this professor solely based upon these ratings. My experience was contrary to these here. Mark was long winded and gave very little direction in class or on what to study for tests. He often just left us during labs. I would definitely not take him again.
He is quite fantastic. The only downfall is he jams as much information he can, in an hour and a half, as he can. He is knowledgeable, and tries to answer your questions to the best of his ability. The tests are tough, so study and read! The labs are pretty fun if you have the right classmates. But he is personable and cares about his students.
He is a wonderful instructor. That being said, this is the hardest class that I've taken. Set time aside to study. If you try to skate by with just a simple review, the day of the test, you will fail. Avoid missing his lectures and labs, if and when at all possible. He fills lectures with useful info.
Absolutely amazing professor. By far the best Bio instructor I have ever had. Lectures are awesome, and he is an MD so he knows what he is talking about. Always does his best to answer your questions, and always keeps the class engaged. Very encouraging and actually helped me make the decision to pursue med school. Thanks so much Dr. Foret
HIGHLY RECOMMEND - Dr. Foret is an incredible instructor. He cares about every one of his students performing well. He is consistent with his testing, and gives you opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. He caters his class for an audience pursuing careers in health, and includes personal experiences as a physician.
Dr. Foret is easily one of the most inspiring and caring professors out there. His lectures are not only unforgettable, but they relate to real life making the information imprinted in your memory. His exams are direct reflection of his lectures, no curveballs. Which in turn allows us students to succeed. TAKE HIM!
The class is based off of 7 lecture exams and 7 lab quizes. At the end of the semester he does drop a lab quiz, and that's helpful. He knows a lot about this topic and can show it in his lectures. The labs are easy and so are the test just study the lab and you'll pass. The lectures get a little of topic but it makes the class go by fast.
Dr. Foret is by far my favorite professor. He gets off topic and talks about his family a lot, but he's very sweet. He takes the time to work with students. There isn't any homework, unless it's for extra credit. The lab manual is a must, the textbook is so-so because he makes slides with all the info. You should go to class, it makes your life
I would recommend taking a class taught by Dr. Foret.
I would recommend taking a class taught by Dr. Foret. He explains everything you need to know for the tests, and also tells personal stories that relate to a health care profession. He is a good friend by the end of the semester.
He gets off topic all the time and fails to finish powerpoints on time, making studying difficult. When I asked for extra help, he failed to do so. For tests, I asked him individual questions, and I would put the answer he gave on the test, only to get it wrong, with an explanation of, "This is the better answer" without getting points back.
Nice guy, cares about student success. Willing to help students/write recommendation letters. Tells funny stories. You are only graded on lab quizzes and lecture exams, so come to class. Lots of info to remember, not an easy course. Lectures are in depth.
I had a great time in Dr. Foret's class, though it was an intense course. Get ready to study. He made it enjoyable, was willing to help, and was caring for his students. Crazy semester for me, but he helped make it possible to make it through. I'd definitely take him if you're looking to take BIO111!
Dr. Foret is one of my favorite professors. This will not be an easy A, but getting an A is certainly obtainable. He really pushed me to work for all of my grades and made me a much better student. He cares a lot about all of his students and wrote me an excellent recommendation letter.
Mark is by far one of the best instructors I have had. He has a passion for teaching, and his students, he truly wants everyone to succeed. Anatomy is a tough class in general, but he makes the topic more enjoyable and less stressful. If you work hard, you will be able to get an A. I highly recommend taking him!!
Dr. Foret is a cool person but gets off topic very easily which makes it hard to learn the material and ask questions in class. Ive asked for help to make sure I get a good grade and took his advice but I still struggled a lot. Great stories but needs to stay on topic so you can actually learn for the test.
He is a wonderful instructor! He wants all students to do well. The course is heavy, but he provides you with great lectures that help you get down to what you really need to know, and tells stories and jokes that help you connect to the content/topics discussed and help you remember it. He gives good clarifications and explanations. Great guy!!
Dr Foret was a great instructor! His stories are funny and he gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit if you go to class. This course is test and quiz heavy but almost no homework at all. If you take Human Bio first (and get a good grade), A&P will be a breeze. I never used the book but lots of people in my class did. Dr Foret is awesome
Very good lectures that keeps learning interesting. Make sure to read the text book along with the notes too!
One of the best professors I have ever had. The class was clearly outlined from the beginning, and everyone knew exactly what to expect. The lectures and labs where well developed and covered all the material on the exams/quizzes. Dr. Foret related his personal experience in the field with textbook examples, making the class much more interesting.
Dr Foret is a very caring, student oriented professor. He gives extra credit some days just for showing up to lecture. He is the best teacher for this class. Throws out material that we dont need to study as its too advanced. Tells a lot of stories, but it makes it relatable and make sense. Lab is basically lecture, goes blank by blank. Love him!
Honestly giving him one star was hard. He is the worst professor I have EVER had.
Dr. Foret was a great teacher! Yes, he can go off topic but honestly he tells interesting stories that are usually relevant to the class discussion. He knows what he is talking about and you can tell he enjoys teaching. Attendance is not mandatory but don't skip because he gives extra credit and talks about what to expect on the test.
The most passionate teacher I have come across at Washtenaw by far. He has so much experience in the medical field which makes him just that much more credible. He is one professor that you wont forget and has a great sense of humor. He gives insight on different medical fields and talks about pros and cons. VERY reasonable with test questions.
Dr. Foret is an amazing professor. He was very caring towards every one of his students. Originally I had wanted to pursue pharmacy but because of how greatly he has inspired me I am going to pursue the medical field in hopes of caring for others and helping out my community. Thank you for all your hard work Dr. Foret!
Dr. Foret was hands down one of my favorite professors of all times. He knows his material very well. You will never get bored during class because he doesn't spend 2h reading off slides; he shares the best stories about patients and gives real life examples to the material we are learning! His exams were VERY fair considering it's a tough class.
Foret was a great teacher. He was extremely knowledgeable on the topic and had interesting lectures.
You take the good with the bad with this professor. He gets extremely off topic and never finishes his labs or lectures completely. Work ahead and with the book and youll get a good grade. Tests are fair but he will mention info not in the lecture which is why you need to read the book. gives credit for high misses on exams.
Doctor for is definitely an awesome teacher. He is very knowledgeable and he loves what he does. He test heavily and gives lots of opportunity for extra credit and he does use the book and power points but mostly the powerpoints I really have nothing bad to say about him at all and he has a superpower he never forgets a name LOL
Dr. Foret was one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very passionate about A&P which makes the lectures much more interesting, he also doesnt sugarcoat anything which I like. I would hands down take him again! Amazing professor and awesome stories
Changed syllabus mid semester causing havoc
Dr. Foret is one of the most outstanding professors I have ever had. He is honest, passionate about the subject, and strives for all his students to succeed, by making the class enjoyable: incorporating real life stories and applications that are relevant to the subject. Therefore, I recommend Dr. Foret for Bio 111.
Dr. Foret is one of the best professors in WCC! He is very knowledgeable about the subject and is so passionate about A&P. Theres never a dull lecture as it is filled with real life gems of wisdom. A&P As a subject is memorization heavy and he gives awesome tips on how to make the material stick! Will definitely take a class of his again if I can!
Dr. Foret genuinely cares about the success of his students. His handouts are a great tool to use when studying for the exam. Use it with the textbook! Btw, the mindless comment about the change of syllabus midterm is dumb. Changes had to be made due to a shift to remote learning because of the COVID19 pandemic.
Dr. Foret is not only an amazing instructor, but he's also an amazing person. Although A&P can be tough, he makes it easy for everyone to understand! Exams are fair and he gives points to everyone on high misses. My favorite part about class is the stories he shares: they're funny, interesting and bring real life contexts to understand A&P. 10/10
If you have a chance to take Mark Foret, DO IT!! He's very straightforward about what he expects from you: read the text book, attend his awesome lectures and you get an A+! He breaks down the course into smaller exams which really helped me stay on top of my studying. He is funny, entertaining and genuine. He cares about his students and it shows!
Dr. Foret was an proficient, inspiring, and well-rounded professor. He taught material well (in a way that enabled comprehension and long-term retention), was approachable and always willing to help students, and used his experiences as an MD to weave real-world applications into complex subject matter. His class inspired me to change career plans.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! 10/10
Ok so test policy is very strict for an online class 25 min for 25 questions for exam one every few weeks. I mean sure multiple choice but barley enough time to read question properly and get through the "lawyer talk" once you start you can't go back to double check your work. Does not accommodate students I did not receive help from him at all.
Talks about everything except of the material. If you are good at teaching yourself may take him. Tests are 25 ? in 25 mins. Can't go back to the previous question after you answered it. Random: you can see the ? about the picture first, and see the picture after that. Only the result(%)is displayed, no idea what was wrong. He does not care at all.
His instructions are misleading. It takes time to understand what you need to do, and it is impossible to Zoom him with a question, you have to write him emails instead, and he often ignores them. No hand-ins. His slides are pages from the book. He gives very little knowledge, and this class is very stressful and time-consuming.
I feel like he is very disorganized, makes things way more difficult than they need to be, as a student taking this class in the summer with 14 other credits and a job, I would've thought my own professor would be understanding, but no, he's a bit harsh with things. but in conclusion, disorganized, confusing, and makes things more difficult for you
Foret is extremely disorganized and does not seem to know how to properly teach an online course. He told us that he did not know what the exam questions would be because he did not write them, and exams make up 500/900 points in the class. The online setup is extremely confusing and he's less than helpful outside of class. Switch to a diff prof!
I would not take another class of his online. None of the labs and lectures ever matched up, but it was easy to get ahold of him via email. Biology is tough, but he made it a lot harder than it should have been. He knows Biology, but never knows anything about the coursework. Constantly makes excuses for the setup of schedule and materials.
His class was so bad. :( The combination of a bad book and a bad teacher. The best you can do is to use the book for BIO111 instead. Ignore his "wisdom speeches" and study.
Great teacher that can sometimes get off topic. Overall I really appreciated his view on bio and how he taught it. I recommend paying attention in class and not getting behind on your hw!
This prof likes to talk. He is entertaining but useless.
Dr. Foret Is a great teacher. he is very knowledgeable in this area. He made learning biology fun and interesting, which I really needed because this was my third Bio class.
Foret makes bio harder. I had to go to another bio 101 after I dropped his class. And I finished it with B+. Don't take Foret!
Some questions for his BIO 101 tests are based on the information given in BIO 111. So, if you think that the topic was not in your book/lecture, most probably it was not there. Don't ruin your grade by taking him.
Dr. Foret is very understanding if you communicate with him. As long as you follow his directions and do the work that is assigned, you will for sure pass the class.
Dr. Foret is clear cut to the chase professor. Clear on what needs to be done and when. He teaches Lab section virtually. He will help with the lecture part as needed but he isn't the one teaching it. Definitely will take again. Some students were childish in class and rude but he doesn't let that stop him teaching the class.
I wouldn't recommend Dr. Foret. The course schedule was messed up the entire semester so I was reading the incorrect material for the exams. He doesn't really teach during the labs, just goes off on tangents. I can't really say I learned a lot in this class from the little information he taught. Attend Zoom cause he sometimes gives extra credit.
Dr. Foret was brilliant! His past experience working as a physician made the class all the more interesting. He was easy to get into contact with and his grading scale was fair for a more challenging class that included labs. I would recommend him to those who love science and/or may need extra help understanding curriculum. He is very supportive!
