This guy is president of the JCCC Babylon 5 Club, and treasurer (I think) of the Star Trek Club. I questioned the validity of his opinions in class and he responded mockingly and never admitted the possibility of his faults. DON'T TAKE IT FROM HIM.
I took Foster's online class. He was helpful with the material & flexible with assignments when given advance notice. I've heard his class lectures are difficult, but found the "e" version very well put together. I recommend this class to those who can handle online classes.
I had an interest in this class until I took it. The Prof spoke in monotone, read straight from the book, and had insanely unfair attendance policies. I missed because my DAUGHTER was sick and he wanted a doc. note from her Doc to excuse me. I really despised this class.
His workload is exceedingly difficult. Although he gives the test questions before the test it is hard to cover the huge cap of material he's expecting you to know. The lectures are difficult to understand because he tends to go from one topic to another in no organized fashion.
I took the class online and other then a rush in the middle because he was off for family emergencies..I Loved It!!!
Mark has high standards for the class. He expects you to know everything about Sociology, but Mark doesn't get to the point in his lectures.Mark's not a very flexible instructor to deal with:if you miss over two or three class periods without being excused, you'll lose 100 points, not extra credit.
his classes are very easy.attendence is an issue.missing only 4 classes u lose 50 points from ur grade.6 or more u lose 100.he never gives hmwk other than a observational project.and his tests arent over material done in class.
Lectures never made sense. makes you get in to groups and he puts on this pathetic timer, he says he'll give you 3 minutes and by darn its gonna eb 3 minutes. "everything is a construction" is hos motto and has a skewed vision of the world, dont take him, very unfair with attendance
BEWARE!i found his class completely informative and based on what he thinks is right. He will tell you that his opinion is not stated in class, but tells you the author's of the books are wrong!Gets side tracked too easily, too smart for his own good.REFER TO YOUR SYALLBUS He sucks.Watch for STUTTER
I have read other students comments and I believe from my experience that each and every one of you are not taking responsibility for your own actions. The instructor is very intelligent and able to teach if the students would stop "screwing around" with him. Let's tell the real truth.
This guy is full of crap. He thinks he is always right and he is so self righteous. Warning: Do not take him because he has no idea what he is talking about. Everything is just a big construction. One more thing, don't have out your cell phone or he will go nuts even if you have an important cal
A generous grader, but his tests aren't anything related to the lectures.Three tests are given:in each, you read four articles in an assigned book and you write your opinion and judgement about one of them.Watch out for the term project, due at semester's end, which is worth 200 points-it can make or break your grade. No need to take lecture notes.
I really enjoyed this class. Foster is smart and explains himself very well.
He sucks...that class was the biggest waste of time. I took it in the summer and had a differetn teacher...it made the biggest difference and it was much more easier and I actually learned something
Dr. Foster is a good teacher. I think everyone has been too harsh. It's true that people should take responsibility for their own actions. He has guidelines and he expects you to follow them. He grades easy and overall he's a nice person.
Grades very easy. He basically gives you the questions to the tests. People give him an undeserved hard time. He really cares about this subject. Be careful with the project.
Dr. Foster is a nice guy. His tests are REALLY easy, he gives you 3 questions, the class answers them and then he picks one for the test. This is the same for the final! The term project was also pretty easy but make sure you start ahead of time beause he knows if you didnt. Easy A if you pay attention to his lectures, take notes!
Took the online class. Covered the basics of Soc. Final project was to create a website. Interesting and fun overall. Pretty good prof.
Just as long as you go to class evertime and do your term project, it's easy, easy, easy!(watch out for the egg timer though, it can irritate you)
He is a nice guy, just a crappy teacher. He is so interested in proving that the television and the government are a giant conspiracy, that he doesn't teach class. It is an easy A if you show up everyday and listen to his babble and studdering about the government and television.
horrible teacher! he just didn't show up to class over 2 times, and we were just waiting for him. he had a horrible time talking to students-he was the kind of teacher that wanted to fail his students, not pass them. i dropped the course because of him!
Taken 2 classes from him. Online (122) he is very very very easy. One discussion a week and only 3 or 4 tests total. Campus (125) the class was still easy as long as you show up and try a little. Do your term project EARLY! He'll go nuts on u if u don't. He stutters and it'll get to you, but he keeps you mostly awake. Ventriloquist doll was wierd..
Very easy A. Attendance is worth 100 points, so must go to class.
Foster is a total kick. You have to show up to class, or you're screwed. His class can be really fun, though. He's super smart and very strange, which is fun to watch. He gives you the essay questions of every test, allows you to answer them ahead of time, then tells you what to change. It's an easy A if you show up.
Very interesting class, i took his online class, just participate in discussions, which i actually really enjoyed. be sure to read the syllabus for the dates of exams and term paper(project).....he grades very easily........YOU NEED AN A+ TAKE HIM, again don't forget the exam dates which are easy to do especially if you take part in discussions, th
The instructor was very disorganized and I really feel that i didn't learn anything in regards to the study of Sociology.
Took online Sociology. He was very unorganized, never got our grades back on time. One time he emailed us a test without the test question, several times in a row! We did the same assignments over again a few times. I learned nothing. Just another required elective to get my degree.
Within the first week of class you realize that he's incredibly smart but in the wrong profession. He said that he spent a majority of his life as a Marxist. He pushed his libreal views on the class. And the material is dry and boring and he presents it horribly. DON'T take this teacher.
Ok this guy is wierd and his class is sooooooooo boring. you have to come to get 100/600 points in the class for attendance. i liked it cuz it was ez points. the class is rediculously easy i lay my head down and text the hole time. you dont have to do anything except mabe a hour of studing the day befor his essay tests
If you have to take sociology as a prerequisite take his ONLINE CLASS! So EASY! wrote a research paper, posted a response to his ? every week and 3 online essay exams. He was a little disorganized but who cares- if you're not getting your degree in this field and just need it to pad your GPA or for a prereq- take him. Can I get a what what?
Absolutely the most unorganized professor I have ever had. I had to complain twice to the head of the department just to get him to respond to email. But I will say it is the easiest A I have ever gotten. I'm sure others that didn't work as hard as I did got A's also because I'm sure he graded nothing. If you need an A though, he's your man.
Okay this class is a joke. i took his social problems class the easiest class i have ever taken. i never read the first book and got a 95% on the test. Although he is very unorganized. He is a very nice man but he is not a teacher for me. If you need an elective or something and want an easy A he is your guy!!
A truly worthless teacher. Even though I took this as an online class, I was completely aghast at the lack of involvement and guidance. I have taken numerous online classes and can confidently say that if you want to learn anything at all, including sociology, look ANYWHERE else. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
HE IS A WORTHLESS TEACHER!!!!! I took his online sociology class this semester, and let me tell you how unhelpful he was. You send him an email and you might get a response 5 days later. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!
I went into this class thinking we would be talking about social problems and how to solve them, but instead I just learned about capitalism 600 ways. Never how to actually solve the problems. Most class discussions take place in small groups, which was useless. I would not recommend him, he is not helpful and the class is useless.
Keeping comments about Mark Foster "clean" may be difficult. The man is Hyper-egotistical. On one essay, though I wrote it well, made logical arguments, and cited multipal sources to support my stance, I was given an F (0 points, no credit) because I was arguing against a view he personally held. Other examples abound, but space here is limited.
I found it ironic and appropriate that he take offence to being called a teacher and recomends you call him a professor instead. For him it is a prestiege issue, I comply becuase the man does not teach, but has pleanty to profess.
This teacher is nearly impossible to get into contact with, grades things slowly, and does not keep up with class activities. Would not recommend.
Complete nitwit. We learned nothing, just listened to his ramblings on how hard life is for him because he's autistic. I'd like to know who gave this man a doctorate. He's tenured so he's not going away. Worst class and worst teacher I've had in 6+ years of college. Everyone from the class I spoke with agreed that he taught nothing about sociology.
probably the WORST teacher I've ever had! His lectures are boring and the majority of the time he's just rambling on about random things. I don't know anyone in my class that understands anything we've gone over. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He is a very odd guy. But he grades pretty easy. We went most of the way thru the term before we even had a quiz. So you won't be able to keep track of your grade with him. Mostly you have to read and have an opinion. He really struggles to explain the concepts and theories of Sociology so reading the book is the best way to get thru this class.
Worst class I've ever taken. He is autistic and a hermit. Somehow he has a master's but only talks about his opionions on communism and only he can be right. Didn't learn anything in his class. Not much work and attendence isnt required but even if you do come to class you still wont get an A.He is hard to get a hold of and good for nothing
Very, very poor teacher. Stumbles through about 50% of the class, and goes through his personal biases the other 50%. If you want to learn something about sociology, I strongly recommend avoiding the class, if you thought your life couldn't get any worse, I strongly recommend taking it. By far, the worst teacher I've ever had.
Do NOT take this class. Terrible Terrible Terrible. I would never take a class with him again. Seriously DONT. I learned absolutely nothing from him.
I loved this class and the teacher. The best class I have ever taken. The textbook was very interesting. I would highly recommend taking his online Sociology class. I really loved the structure of the class, as it is great for those who work full time. He is great at answering questions and is very understanding if you have problems.
he did not want to talk about anything other then autism
Terrible teacher. Was not able to have class due to snow and this completely threw him off. He also expects you to do a major project that many of my friends who majored in Sociology didnt have to do. He is very biased. Any other teacher would be better. I have no idea how his syllabu was approved by the department!!!
very helpful, just attend class listen to what he says and do your projects i will join him next semester for my other socio class.so far the best proffesor for me
I had him in Spring 2011 semester. He's wonderful professor. He have very interesting views about this world. He loves to discuss with us about our views & compares to his.
Not worth the easy A. He was extremely unorganized and it was hard to sit through he class. Not worth it if you actually want to learn something about Sociology.
Drawn out. Missed several classes then expected students to come after he didn't show for a while. Cell phone rule was stupid. And term projects were tedious and didn't have much reason. Definitely coulda done this class in two months not four
Nice guy, but the class is just torture. Very drawn out class. There's one worthless service learning project you have to do, there was one extremely easy "essay test" and then the final, and you basically never have homework. The class is a really easy A, but the lectures are hard to sit through.
good luck sitting through the lectures...it is torture! he repeasts the same things and we just split up into groups and talk...im still in the class but i wouldnt take him..good topic ruined by him
This guy is terrible. not just because his lectures are dreadfully boring and his ideologies are forced upon you, but because during an exam- which you don't have to study anything other then the 3 essay questions- he actually decided to make about 30% of the final grade over a 10 page pdf. instead of oh say, the 6 chapters "studied" in class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!yes it is an easy A because if you attend then you are fine, but good luck sitting through his lectures! They make no sense and if you ask for clarification he gets flustered and goes on a rant that has nothing to do with what you asked. Very confusing, literally did not learn anything.
I hate this clases. Worst class I've litterally ever taken. I was so interested into Sociology before I came into this class. No it makes me mad. You literally do 3 things. You screw one up your basically in a hole. 1/4 of it is you being there and the 3/4th is 3 different things he makes you do.
This class was easy but not worth it, what we go over in class isn't on the tests at all and all he talked about was Marxism and feminism because those were the two things he loved the most. he bashed anyone with an opinion
Loved this class. Super easy and fun. Just pay attention. Just essays and coming to class. Great class if you want to learn from a different perspective. Teacher is a good guy, down to earth for real. Not a class to take if you don't like the topics. Good luck.
This class is an easy A and he is an easy grader. His lecture are extremely boring and I usually end up doing other homework in class. There is two essay question test and two papers due the whole semester.
Had to show up to class for points but his lectures were painfully boring and drawn out. I don't think he actually graded our essays because everyone in the class got the same grade. Easy enough to get an A but NOT worth it at all.
If you enjoy lectures this class is for you, but be prepared to be confused and VERY bored. He grades off attendance, 2 tests and one paper. He refers to the syllabus constantly, but what the syllabus says differs from what he wants. If you show up and do the three assignments you should get an A, but I wouldn't take this class again.
He's so boring that is actually funny. His point of views are very left and they are interesting. Show up and take a nap if you get bored. You might learn something if you are into the liberal stuff. I enjoyed the part where he thinks that America is the biggest social problem of the world, which is true.
Egomaniacal. Loves the sound of his own voice. Has no tolerance for dissenting views, and is not disposed to debate. Brusque to the point of being rude. I recommend seeking a different professor for your sociology courses.
Dr. Foster is a nice guy. He loves when you show up and are active in class. He is not always clear, so ask questions when you do not understand.
He is a generally nice guy but not a good teacher. There are only three real assignments throughout the semester and the fourth grade is attendance.
He's brilliant. Other than that, I don't have anything else nice to say. This was the most frustrating class I've ever sat thru. I learned nothing. I took it simultaneously with Zirkle's Intro class and spent the entire semester wishing I had him for this class too. This is an easy A but don't expect to learn and expect to pull out some hair.
he grades on 4 things, attendance, one test, mid term and final. midterm you will not get 100, most he gives is 97 unless you blow him away. attendance if you miss more than 2 days you get a 50%. the test and final he gives three questions the week before, whatever of the three questions the class asks the most questions on he will choose.
Worst class I have ever taken, hands down. How he grades is very clear on his syllabus, but if you are wanting to actually learn something useful and something about social problems, take a different course.
Easily gets off topic so don't expect to learn anything. There are only 4 grades: test 1, midterm (10 hr community service learning + paper) and a final test. He takes attendance and it affects your final grade. he does not use d2l. only his decade old website he made himself. Don't expect to see any grades until finals week. Easy if you show up
This was hands down the worst class I've ever taken. If you want to listen to the ramblings of a mad man for 50 minutes, take this class. The single craziest professor I've ever met. He's a communist and a progressive. If you are in any way conservative, you will hate it. Won't take criticism at all. Do not take this class. Very LOW ENERGY.
Just don't.
Foster spends most of the class rambling on about the greatness of communism instead of covering the assigned reading or test materials. I had an A in the class until I missed more than 3 classes, at which point he took 25% of my points for the semester. Mastery of the material is second to listening to his regurgitation of the Communist Manifesto.
Not that hard of a class. Just super boring and he's actually a communist but like he's a nice guy just really boring and he just rambles on and on.
Extremely boring, but easy to pass and get an A if you put in the effort. Don't skip class, attendance is graded heavily. Would not recommend his class if you're serious about sociology. Only grades for entire semester two tests, a community service paper, and attendance.
Red Flag of ANY course: if it's hrs long and attendance is 25% (lose all for missing 3) it means that the teacher does not view his class as anything but a soapbox; no matter the view, left OR right. PolSci classes with long lectures and heavy attendance penalties are ALWAYS cult-ish. 5 years late; I work here now. precursor to the SJW problem.
A great person in general but not a good teacher at all. Very unclear about explaining the structure of the class including due dates. Talks a lot about Communism and not much about anything else. The class itself is easy though, just one test and a service learning paper. An easy A class but a very boring class in general.
all he does in class is briefly discuss what is part of the lecture, the rest is pulling us into groups where nobody discusses anything because nobody knows what is going on and him ranting about politics and going in depth about dumb pointless stuff like how he got a certain graph onto his website
He is awesome
Don't take his classes he is all over the place, One point he is talking about monkeys the next he Is talking about his sister. All I learned in his class is about his life stories
Mark Foster is a terrible choice if you want to learn, but if you want to get an easy A then take his class. He will usually just put everyone into groups and then discuss afterwards. He usually casually just talks about the lesson, then goes on about random stuff, mostly communism. He says he doesn't talks about it, but he does every day.
Its a pretty easy class. I would recommend it.
he's very open about his views; he is not too clear on what exactly he wants out of a class and it is difficult to get clear information out of him.
I wouldn't recommend this class to my worst enemy. his lecturers are hard to follow and you don't take much away from his class. Easy A if you decide to push through but dang!
You will pass this class with an A or B as long as you attend class, participate in the group discussions and complete your 4 assignments that you get the whole semester. If you can't attend class, communicate with him. He's pretty easy-going, don't be fooled by his demeanor.
Dull lectures. Kind of comes off as one of those tenured teachers that just no longer give a f about teaching but instead loves to boast about all his big deal sociology work on the side. How into his own self he is was actually entertaining though. Doesn't care about actually teaching you anything so go in willing to self-teach.
Honestly, even looking through the syllabus I was not sure what was happening. His website that he references looks doesn't give clear due dates either and looks like a virus waiting to happen. He doesn't respond to e-mails so I'm not sure where I stand on certain things. I've had several classes but I don't haven't had one this disorganized.
this has honestly been the worst class ive ever taken. he waited until the weekend before finals to put our grades in and wasnt understanding about anything. i missed class due to doctors appointments and a court date and he held it against me and expected me to keep paper evidence of it for 3 months. took him 2 weeks to respond to an email.
We didn't learn much about Social Problems in this course. Instead we listened to Dr. Foster rant about how terrible the Trump family is and how awful the United States is. All of us who tried got exactly the same grade on his essay tests, 93%! He only grades on tests, a project paper, and participation. Showing up late WILL dock your grade!
Online Class was confusing. Very little communication from the teacher with the class and almost the entire time I was just hoping I was doing things correctly.
He is pretty interesting. Gets off topic a lot during lectures.. But the class is super easy, show up and do your assignments and you've got an A. There are no tests in the course.
This class is an easy A as long as you put in the effort. If youre taking this course online make sure to do the weekly exams (its a completion grade), make a brief weekly post about the assigned reading, & do the semester project & final exam. This sounds like a lot, its not though. Hes not very communicable.
This was the most terrible class ive ever taken at JCCC. He is horrible at teaching, goes off topic and talks about Trump instead. He was also very unclear about when assignments were due, I didnt learn anything and dont recommend anyone wasting their time taking this class!
I took his online class and had absolutely zero guidance. I basically paid to teach myself even though I learned nothing. This is unacceptable that this is even allowed for a teacher. He was literally absent the whole semester. Dont pay to take this class. I promise you, you will regret it.
I do not recommend this class. I was extremely confused on what I was supposed to be doing the whole time. He posted 2 times the whole semester so we basically had to teach ourselves.
Confusing and rude. Tried to ask him questions about the class not covered in the syllabus, but all he said was look over the syllabus. He was too lazy to even tell me one due date. Syllabus and course material is very confusing and unclear, and his website is a mess. Dont take this class if you want to learn.
Beyond non-communicative. I am not a bad student by any measure, and I was still very lost and confused. His website is designed poorly, and information that is in the syllabus is still impossible to parse. I think this is an interesting subject, but I don't believe I learned very much here.
Worst professor I have ever had. His syllabus is unclear and lacks information that is required for understanding the requirements of an online class. Further it contained contradictory information. When emailed and advised him of this he responded without answering any questions posed by the email and dismissed clarifying the information.
Unprofessional. His syllabus is confusing, there is information completely spread out, and it will take you to his website that is a migraine inducing green. Will invite people of his political spectrum to play the semester exam in his region with him, it is a political online game. Absent the entire semester & 1 paper, book quizzes, and the game.
Awful professor who does nothing but ramble all semester about his horrible political beliefs. Dont take this class if you want to pass. Worst teacher Ive ever had. Would give him a -1000000/10 if I could.
I thought Professor Foster was a great teacher. He rambles but he has some really great and interesting stories to tell. He lectures more than he uses the textbooks. As long as you try you will get a 97 on every test. The whole class got a 97 on everything. You do need to attend class or you will lose major points. He is very understanding.
I will start off by saying that he is a very easy grader. However, apart from going to his office he is impossible to reach outside of class. He is so unorganized that he messed up mine and multiple classmates grades. He entered a D in my final grade when I earned an A and it took a formal review for him to change it. He ignored all my emails.
READ THE SYLLABUS. PROF DOES NOT LIST CANVAS DATES ACCURATELY. The final exam does not relate to what we read at all. McGraw Hill reading was easy, however prof was not present AT ALL during the semester. Ironically one point in the textbook point out how a child was raised in isolation and could not learn as a result. I felt that the entire time.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken if you practice time management. You are guaranteed 260/500 of the points in the class if you read the book and take quizzes. Extremely easy grader and class is pretty easy if you actually read the syllabus. His only flaw is he is very hard to get ahold of.
