Almost impossible to get >90, but almost impossible to fail, too. Fun guy.

If you show up to class, you can't fail!! But if you do go to class be prepared for a non-stop lecture that goes on tangents of tangents of the original tangent. This guy is helpful if you ask but he messed up in the head. B.T.W. You just got an 85

Nice guy. Papers get graded kind of harshly and he spends a lot of time cutting students off, but nice guy.

Get excited about old movies and music. Likes to read to the class. Cuts off students when they are talking. Take this class with friends and it will be a good time.

Requires alot of reading and writing, but hes a fair grader and spark notes can get you through the class

I have never seen an english teacher with such bad grammar. He is very easy going and likes to help. Class is almost pointless. If you are satisfied with an 85 while doing practically nothing, take him. Suffice that though, ITS LIKE persnikitty.

You will become very sick of his sayings and it obnoxious jokes that are NOT funny. But if you ask questions about how to write the paper and visit the tutor in the lab to edit the papers (his wife) you will have no toruble gettting an A or B.

Well, I had no problem getting a 90+. I think you get it if you deserve it. Participate in class & read the books! or you get an 85. Which is very generous, when you don't respect the class.

Ha, Gellis, what a nut. He really likes his technical writing, which is weird. Knows his stuff, but you better be happy with an 85. I wrote all my papers in no time because he tells you exactly what he wants and no BS

Do the work and go to class. There are ways to write a paper the night before. Just listen to what he says. Must put work in. Overall good teacher.

Other students describe him well, but he really cares about the students and the class. Exponential grading: turn in a rough draft =85, put some thought into your paper =90, write your best paper at Kettering =95, write the best he's seen that term =100.

i've had this guy twice and he is a great guy, he really wants you to do well. i got a 85 in 101 and 93 in 301 so you just have to work for it.

I went in expecting an 85 from reading these reviews but I ended up with a 92. Didn't put much effort into anything except the 2nd speech and still got good grades. Gives you the harder assignments at the beginning of the term so at the end of the term you have less work.

Literature of the Fantastic! Class was OK, but could have been so much better if he shut his mouth once in a while. I did really well, but if you can't put together a college paper, expect an 85. Oh, and you could see his underwear through the lining of his pocket. Very disturbing.

A goofy guy, but really smart! Rhetoric is his specialty. If you work hard, you'll either get an 85 or a 90 on a paper (95s are rare, but happen). Go to him before a paper is due and he'll give you great feedback of what he's looking for.

Great teacher. Show up & do the work & youll get a good grade. Two large essays are what your grade really depends on but he will help you as much as you need. Bottom line - he is a fun teacher who is passionate about what he teaches and wants his students to do well. Understands we are not at school for literature. I strongly recommend him.

Awsome prof, appears to be a little bias towards sigma chis because they live in the same area or something, but he is definately a good guy. Easy assignments and lots of group work. His wife is the writing tutor so she can help you with anything for his class

Gellis is the man. I had him this term and he was probably the best kettering prof i have ever had, and hey he lives right by me in flushing. First assignment is a bit tough and lenghty, but if you put good effort into everything you do, you shouldnt get less than a 85 or so. No final and if you screw anything up he lets you redo it. He is a little annoying and you must go to class everyday or hell fail you.. but the class is really easy, 4 papers ,two speeches, lots of team work. Classes are boring, but easy, you never do anything in class. He also loves the sound of his owen voice, ALOT, ALL HE DOES IS TALK!! But I would reccomend him. His papers are easy.. easy grader!

Did all extra credit, turned in papers early, got proofreading done by the school writing tutor (his wife), and received high marks on every assignment, got an 85 in the class (the lowest grade I got on any single assignment was 90, go figure...) Go every day, but don't bother working too hard, not worth it. Likes to talk. Funny and not boring.

Very fair man. Very interresting in class. Work is a cinch, class is nothing but listening to him talk. He cares about the students, all he wants is for students to get out of his class what we'll need in real life. Thinks about his choices and improves quality of the class. Sometimes plays movies. Best Kettering teacher I've had. Likes anime.

He knows his stuff, he's very clear about it. He gives a lot of good information, and almost everyone gets around an 85. If you put lots of extra effort in and are a naturally talented writer or speaker, you can get up to around a 92.

Gellis is a cool guy who ends a lot of sentences with "okay?" He does a good job of keeping the discussion going and keeping you awake by reading out loud.

Do well in class, get 85. Do poorly, get 85. Will push you to perform for all you're worth, and really likes to hear himself talk. Also seems to be fond of spilling coffee on himself.

Likes to hear himself talk, and he talks a lot. Like the person below said, it's pretty much an easy 85, if you show up to most classes and turn in your work, even if you doubt your work.

Good prof, humanities shouldn't be tought at a engineering school but he knows that and tries to make it ok to take. Better than other teachers b/c there is no quizes and no final just 2 big papers over the books that were read in class and 2 page book reports that you can sparknotes

Very easy professor. All we did was write papers and the largest one was only 7 pages total. No quizes or tests! He will always take up the entire hour and sometimes more to go over a novel, but overall a good professor. Take him over Burns if you can.

Yes, you'll have to read a novel a week in this class, but it's really not that much, definitely not any more than any of your engineering classes. Most of the books are really interesting anyway, so it's more like entertainment than homework. I think if the last reviewer didn't want to read, he shouldn't have taken a LIT class in the first place!

Very enthusiastic professor but he takes attendence and doesn't return your papers without having an out-of-class meeting. Very time consuming syllabus but you do get to avoid doing a "mini-thesis" which all the other COMM301 profs require.

gellis is a great prof. he uses his hands to talk too much, he talks a lot, and he gives you a lot of work. if you just do the papers and whatever else he asks, you get a good grade. its not hard, and its not THAT time consuming. he is also very willing to talk outside of class and help if you need it.

Good professor, assignments have value. Procrastination will hurt your grade. Always willing to proofread papers or offer help. Liked to hear himself speak too much, a little annoying but a good professor nonetheless.

Honestly, I think he could talk to himself for hours on end. He talks WAY too much, but once in awhile provides some good insight. It's a good class, nonetheless. He chose some pretty good books.

Had for "Lit. of Fantastic". Fun guy. Read 1 book a week, wrote a "what I think about it" 3 paragraph page each week. Read the books, go to class, you'll do fine.

Very clear as to what he wants. Gives some good examples in class. Lectures are very dry though, he repeats himself a lot. Never gives grades outside of 85-90 though regardless of how much or little effort you put in. No such thing as a "100" paper in his class.

You will probably always get an 87 if you do the work, but he talks soooo much.

He is extremely long winded but does know his stuff. Never lets you out early and never stops talking...ever! Not too bad for COMM II though.

Wow is this a painful class to sit through for 2 hours. I mean you don't really do anything, and you don't need to do a mini thesis for him, but listening to him is bad enough. There are better profs for 301, but you aren't going to get a horrible grade with him either.

Gellis talks a lot in class, almost NO class discussion. If you ask him a question, he will talk for 20 min on it, throwing in lots of tangents. Grade is based on 2 major papers and a minor paper per book. NO objective grades, so make sure he likes you.

Rambles a lot and repeats his stories, but he's a really nice guy. I love his class and I want him again for COMM 301. Quizzes are easy but he won't just hand out A's to anyone. In fact, I've never heard of anyone getting higher than a 95 on any paper.

Tries really hard to help you, if you want it. Makes class interesting. Alot of homework, but if managable and not difficult.

He is a very good professor. He truly cares and loves what he is doing. He is fair, and will do almost anything to help you pass. However he is a strict grader and it is very hard to get over a 95 on your reports, but almost everyone gets an 85. I would recommend him to anyone for comm 101. Also he didn't give a final or any major exam.

Good teacher, got a free bbq grill from him. Easy class if you read anderson book and STAY AWAKE. Show up, drink coffee, leave. Cracks jokes. No finals. Only three or four papers and a few presentations

Overall a good guy. Talks A LOT! Pretty opinionated as well. Class is somewhat dull but it's easy to get a decent grade. Ready 1 book per week and do a short 1 pg paper about what you thought of the book. Midterm and final essays. No final.

Tough grader on papers. Minimal amount of work to be completed, very manageable. You basically sit and listen to him talk for 4 hours a week just make sure you show up.

Relatively easy class. Read a book a week or so, write a paper on it and turn it in. Wasn't very easy to get more than a B - but was pretty hard to get less than that. Does not have a good concept of time - always let us out late, but I would recommend him for humanities as he's a good guy who's pretty funny and not too demanding.

Excellent professor, classes will consist of novels and essays, no tests, quite easy to get a B, but difficult to get an A or less than a C, if you run into trouble with his class he will go way out of his way to help you to get back on top of the class. Excellent professor with an excellent attitude

Gellis is a pretty cool guy. His class is fairly easy and he knows it isn't the most important class in the world and would rather you do better in other classes. I did all his papers the night before they were due(we had 3 weeks for each) and got about a B on all of them. He doesn't even mention his book after the first day. One of my fav. profs.

Gellis is a cool guy, he loves anime and will talk about it for hours on end. His assignments were relatively easy though, and if you fail he'll allow you to resubmit and then pretend the first one didn't happen. He also cares about his students and their performance in the class.

He is a good teacher. He does go tangents but gets his point acrossed. Only had to do three papers and one presentation. He does grade tough, really nit picky on the grammar.

The guy is pretty energetic during class. Not a bad guy. If you have a question he is always willing to help and is actually helpful. Only thing is that he expects perfection so getting an A is a bit hard. Usually his grading puts everyone at a B+ or A-. Overall though class is great and discussions are interesting.

This man really cares about his job and the students. Three papers and one team speech is all that makes up this class. No tests or final. Gives great feedback for all papers but can be a little over critical sometimes. Unless you are amazing at writing and know exactly what he wants you'll most likely end up with a B. Mandatory attendance.

I enjoyed having Dr. Gellis as my professor for COMM-301. His grading has helped me learn how to write better and more efficiently. I am thankful for the Extra Credit project at the end of the term as well.

Gellis is a good professor. He makes sure you understand what you need to do and what is expected. You get to choose a topic for each of your papers. Hes a very tough grader and almost never gives anyone an A.

Gellis is probably one of the better professors I have had at Kettering. Lit of the Fantastic is a lot of reading, but none of it is difficult. Each book has a small, 500 word essay attached to it, plus a midterm and a final. Gellis doesn't give out A's lightly, but if you work for it and take his suggestions, you will do fine in this class.
