Absolutely loved his class! He's a really good teacher and knows the material inside out. I took Genetics with him and thank God I had him and not one of the other professors. Attendance isn't mandatory since he records his lectures, but I recommend attending his lectures cause you can ask questions and he dressed up as a lamb for Halloween lol.
He is a good professor, he is very lecture heavy, but you do not have to attend class because they are posted, yet it is recommended. I took him for BIO 1, but this course was the only option to write a review under. Overall, good class only thing that's frustrating is your grade is completely 10% take-home quizzes, 60% midterms, 30% final.
Professor Grabiner was amazing at lecturing! The class was straightforward and based on assessments. The quizzes were online with multiple attempts, but the exams were in person and not very difficult at all. If you come to class, or watch the lectures on zoom, take notes, and do the study guides he provides you should be able to succeed.
This class was really easy as long as you reviewed the slides before the tests. The tests were pretty much entirely based off the slides and if you knew those, the tests were easy. All mc tests.
I'd say he's pretty much okay. He does grade by a few things (3 midterms, final, and quizzes). Quizzes were easy but counted for a small percentage of your grade. As for the midterms, I suggest using his study guides he provides and rewatching his recorded lectures. One bad grade on the midterm can take a toll on your grade so beware and do well.
Prof G's lectures are very good and you do not need to read any textbook to study or learn material for his exams (all MC). Weekly online quizzes to boost your grade + one midterm grade is dropped if you do bad. All lectures are recorded so attendance isn't required but being there definitely helps understanding. You can tell he cares about biology
His exams were about 30 questions each and filled with unfair, confusing and difficult questions. Questions were correct because he said so. He would just tell us to study more. He does not even hand back exams and gives very broad feedback via gradescope. Plus exams make up most of our grade. Although he is very dedicated and explains things well.
Seems like a good prof, very knowledgable and everything on the tests is in the lectures. There are weekly online quizzes, but the grade was mostly made up of 3 midterms and a final. Requires a lot of studying outside of class.
I thought Dr. G was a great lecturer, they were very engaging. But his exams were extremely difficult, and we were not given the exams back ever. The only study material he gave were broad overall gist questions, but they did not help prepare for the questions on the exam. If exams were fair, the class would be great.
I didn't attend a single lecture and still got an A. The tests were so easy, the content was basically taken straight from the class lectures, which were all posted online. Just watch the lectures the day before a test, take notes, and you'll be fine. Everything was super straightforward, and Prof. Grabiner explains the course material really well.
He was a solid professor and definitely has a love for the subject. Overall grade was primarily determined by 3 midterms and a final, but one midterm grade gets dropped. Only criticisms are that his presentations are pretty vague and the practice material for the midterms are not really thorough. But lectures are recorded for you to rewatch.
He's a chill professor and is willing to re-explain concepts to you if you don't understand. The material was easy, but his lectures were kind of boring so I ended up falling asleep a lot and had to rewatch the recordings. The only work outside of class are the quizzes which are easy. Overall, you'll get a good grade if you study.
Good professor! Gives all the materials and support you need to succeed and do well in class. Cares about students grades and will help you out if you need it. Shows a genuine care that students are actually learning and is clearly passionate about teaching.
Honestly I was shocked that his rating was so low. He's a pretty great lecturer. I don't do much studying, but I did attend and take notes every lecture. Exams are all mc, there are online quizzes each week (3 attempts allowed so almost guaranteed 100) If you show up and pay attention I think you'll do fine. I'm glad I had this prof.
Dr. Grabiner is a great professor. He is really nice and accessible outside of class. His lectures can be a little boring but he clearly covers all the information necessary for exams. All the exams were straightforward and reflected the material taught in the lectures. Definitely recommend taking him for genetics!
Grabiner is a great professor who gets the class involved in discussion about the papers. The inquiries section I took with him is on the ubiquitin proteasome pathway. Coming out of it I have a significantly greater understanding of the pathway, along with increased ability to read scientific literature and knowledge about the process of science.
This class is a great class. Anyone interested in Biology, I highly recommend take really any class with this professor. Not only is he good at answering questions, the class is of a reasonable difficulty and all tests are multiple choices. Participation is helpful, and I highly recommend asking questions. I'm not sure why he has bad reviews, 10/10
real good. grade is mainly determined by exams, but they are all multiple choice with fair questions. attendance is not mandatory so you could honestly pass by just reviewing all the lecture recordings on your own time (not recommended but still possible). all around, a solid professor and a manageable course.
Dr.G is a great lecturer and does a good job of breaking down complex concepts. This class is not lecture-heavy and is more of a Socratic seminar. Be prepared to work on your public speaking skills because you will have to do (casual) presentations. class conversations and well as peer presentations are great preparation for the exams.
Great professor! Gives us clear and concise information, is great at answering questions, has a good sense of humor, and gives us opportunities for discussion in class. Posts his lectures online so you can go back and rewrite your notes just because it is a pretty dense class information-wise. Recommend him over and over for genetics!
His lectures are concise and well put together - provides structure for notes. Exams can be deceivingly easy, but not too difficult to get a good grade. No homework or outside content for this portion of Gen Bio.
If you take him he is not the worst option. If you don't go to class or office hours you won't understand what's going on unless you have a strong background in Biology. Other professors do exam corrections, he doesn't so it kind of screws you if you are a bad exam taker. He has a lot of office hours so its really what you put into the class.
This was honestly one of the easiest class I have ever taken. There isn't a lot of work besides from attending lecture (which isn't mandatory), taking quizzes (he drops the lowest), and taking unit exams (he replaces your lowest with your final exam grade if your final exam grade is higher). Just attend the lectures, take notes, and you're all set.
Dr. G was an ok professor. Despite the exams being multiple choice they were a little difficult in terms of the wording. I was left second guessing a lot. With that being said the exams make up 85% of your grade and quizzes are 15%. I felt like it was hard to get an A in the class because of how exams are weighted. Was helpful to rewatch lectures.
Really great class taught by a very passionate and well-spoken professor. Each quiz gets 3 attempts (keeps highest score), and then your lowest test score is replaced by the finals grade (if you do better). I recommend doing practice problems and using Quizlet (use study guides as template for Quizlet) to prepare for exams.
He was an excellent teacher. His lectures were always very thorough, so make sure to show up to those. The majority of your grade comes from 5 exams (including the final) that are spaced out through the year. As long as you are going to his lectures and doing the practice problems he assigns for (optional) homework, you should be completely fine.
Class is well organized. He has the slides and lecture recording posted for you to look back over. He also posts practice versions of all the quizzes which are extremely helpful when studying for the exams. The tests are all multiple choice which is nice but they are also not very long so there is little room for error.
Dr. Grabiner is hands down the best professor I have ever had. Not only is he super passionate about biology, but he is also so good at delivering hard information in a clear and understandable way. If you put in the time to study and take his practice quizzes, you will see the effort pay off in your grades. Office hours help a lot!
I loved Grabiner. You can tell that he is passionate about what he teaches, and the c
Wow. One of the best professors I've ever had at Northeastern. I am not great at science, and this class was hard for me. However, he is easily accessible and makes his content as easy to digest as possible. Don't underestimate the difficulty of the exams + put in the work to truly succeed. He is so passionate about biology + a really kind person.
Professor Grabiner is very knowledgable and passionate about the topic. His slides were very helpful and the lectures were clear and helped a lot. exams are difficult but fair. lowest exam grade gets replaced by the final if your final grade exam grade is higher and lowest quiz gets dropped. I would definitely recommend taking him for bio.
Dr. G was easily one of the best science teachers I've ever had. His lectures are easy to follow and accessible online. Your grade is based almost solely on tests (the quizzes don't count for much comparatively), but if you actually pay attention, participate, and study, the tests themselves really aren't difficult.
He is a very smart, and knowledgeable person, and he teaches pretty good. His classes are just lectures with good slides. Overall, he is good. His quizzes are helpful for studying, but he doesn't post enough practice problems. I found I had to find extra practice online.
You will learn a lot in his class. Everything you need to know is in his lecture slides. Organized well and relatively easy if you stay on top of the material.
Dr. G is great!! He is pretty chill, but sometimes the lectures become a bit of a drag because it is a ton of information. Nonetheless, he is very good at explaining things and giving lots of practice and tips for success. Plus, he records all of his lectures! His quizzes are open-note and are really great practice for the tests. Would recommend!
Lectures are very well organized and delivered. He always makes time to thoughtfully answer students' questions. All homework and exams are multiple choice. If you study the practice problems and quizzes you'll be golden. Easy A.
Prof Grabiner was great he always was very transparent about test content and provided a lot of practice
Dr. G is definitely very passionate about biology and it shows. He is very eager to answer questions during lectures, and his slideshows are very well-made. He gives some practice questions that you can use to review the material, and his lectures are also recorded which is nice to go back for studying. His tests and quizzes are also very fair!
For Dr.G's class, you definitely gotta know the content inside out. He can be very sassy but aside from that, he is awesome. Lectures are clear, informative and recorded. His tests are all MCQ and 85% of your grade. Just rewatch lectures and study everything under the sun, and you'll be good.
The lecture is very helpful. He is very caring. He inspires students to do research or at least keep in touch with new things happen in biological world. Very great professor and person. Definitely recommended.
One of the best professors I've had at Northeastern.
He has engaging and detailed lectures with just enough dad jokes and good opportunities for participation. He includes practice questions for every section, and the answers can be found easily in his slide decks. The only outside assignments aside from self-studying are quizzes which you have the option to take multiple times.
I was nervous to take biology but Professor Grabiner made it super comprehensible!! His lectures are dense, but he records them so you can go back and listen/watch them. Attendance is not mandatory. If you take notes on the lectures and put in the time to understand the content, you will do great on the exams (which are not particularly difficult).
Professor Grabiner is very nice and approachable. The class does not require attendance and the lectures are all posted online after class. Grading consists of online quizzes and exams so it is test heavy, but the tests are all multiple choice and not too difficult. If you take time for studying for exams and taking good notes you'll be all good!
Lecures were extremely helpful and slides provided most of the information needed for the exams. Exam 1 and 2 were quite manageable, but it progressively gets harder with exam 3 & 4 being quite difficult. He is just strict about his policies which is sometimes disappointing and annoying especially if you have an unforeseen circumstance.
He's a very good professor but make sure to take notes on what he says and not just the slides, because a lot of the exam is based off what he says. Also, the exams are multiple choice, and they are not very difficult as long as u study the material well and go over practice questions and quizzes!
Dr. Grabiner is a brilliant lecturer who provides many practice problems, but his exams are extremely challenging and heavily weighted. Even dedicated students often struggle, and one bad exam can ruin your grade. Don't be fooled by reviews claiming it's easy; those are likely from exceptional test takers. Be prepared for a tough course.
His exams are poorly worded and there are very few questions on each exam, so you need to do perfect to get an A. The lowest exam gets dropped. During finals week he assigned an essay, a unit 4 exam, and a final back-to-back so it Was hard to study for everything. I think the other teacher is better bc he has online exams.
He's a pretty good teacher. Grades are based mostly on exams so be prepared for that. Your lowest exam grade can be replaced by the cumulative exam at the end of the year. Quizzes have 3 attempts, so you're guaranteed a 100%. He does a review before each exam which is super helpful. Finals was a back-to-back Unit 4 exam and a cumulative portion.
Grabiner was a wonderful lecturer. taking notes and studying a reasonable amount will get you a very decent grade. He is also a very nice person and is very easy to talk to, I highly recommend going to talk to him if you don't get a concpet
10/10 would recommend! There's four unit exams and one cumulative final exam. He gives study guides out in advanced so you know what to expect on the exam. My advice: Go to class and preemptively study for exams using the study guides - to get an A you really do need to understand what is being taught.
Grabiner posts all of the recordings online. I didn't go to lectures much because of timing, but I listened to the recordings, took notes on the slides, and retook the weekly quizzes to prepare for exams. There were really no surprises. All MCQ exams are very reasonable. Grabiner is a cool dude!
Tests are super easy, all of the questions come from the lecture slides. To get less than an A in the class you have to try and do bad on the tests/not study at all. Lectures are recorded but are generally very dense and wordy. Overall this is basically high school bio, and an A is achievable by just reading through the lecture slides.
Best professor I had first semester without a doubt. His styling of teaching and his practice tests genuinely made me LEARN the material. He cares about his students a lot!!
Professor G was great. The only thing to be worried about if you take him for bio1111 is that you are graded on very few things; 4 exams, 1 final, and some online quizzes. I'm very glad I took this class with him!
I had Professor Grabiner during my first semester at Northeastern and would highly recommend him to anyone who is taking Gen Bio! At first, I was a bit nervous to talk to him, but he's a really nice guy and wants you to succeed! He posts lots of practice material for every chapter leading up to an exam, so go to office hours and do those!
This class is NOT an easy A. There are some tricky mcq on the exams and you definitely need to know the material in and out to do well in the class. Attendance is not required, lectures are recorded. Prof Grabiner is a great professor, and he gives you all the material you need to succeed..but you have to put in the work. 4 exams, final replaces 1
I really like Dr. G, but it is not easy to get an A. You really have to put in the work to do well since the 4 unit exams are worth over 50% of your grade and have around 35 questions each. I really recommend doing the practice questions he offers if you want to do well!
Dr. G is one of the most passionate professors I've had at Northeastern. He's soso caring about the wellbeing of his students and honestly just wants people to learn. He has 8 online quizzes throughout the semester, but you have 3 attempts on each and they're honestly super helpful for learning and making sure you're on track. Tests are super fair.
Very caring teacher, does a good job tying biology into the real world.
Goated teach DrG. Take him and don't cram the day before the tests study well in advance to make it easier for urself. Hes funny and sassy which makes the class even better.
grabiner is super approachable and makes lectures engaging and easy to understand. go to class and study for tests and you will do just fine!!
Really great teacher and provides all the material for you to succeed in the class. Tests are 85% of your grade (mcq based) and 15% review quizzes (3 attempts). Would've been perfect but some of his mcq were really tricky and 2 answers could have possibly worked. If u want an A, you need to master the material and work hard.
GOATED Professor, Really cares about the class and about students. He tries his best to help students to get the best grades. Attendance is not mandatory and lowkey is not really necessary because all you need to know is going to be on slides. All exam questions are based on slides material, you don't need anything else to do well in class.
Professor Grabiner was great at explaining concepts, which made it really easy to understand the content. He was really fair with grading, and the exams never had any curveballs. I was able to do well in the class because he was very clear in teaching the content as well as outlining expectations.
I was very intimidated for this class, but Dr. Grabiner was an amazing professor. He reinvigorated my love for cell biology and explained complex topics in a very digestible way. The lectures are very well structured and everything you need to know is covered. He is available outside of class and always willing to help. BEST Genetics Prof by far!
Awesome professor. his tests can be a little challenging, but overall they are fair. You will be fine as long as you do the practice quizzes, go over the slides, and the practice questions.
Classic lecture style class. Questions are tests are very reasonable, and if you pay attention in class, you should be able to get a good grade. No homework aside from quizzes that you can retake
Prof Grabiner is a good lecturer and gives plenty of outside help if needed. Class is very test-heavy; grades are based on 4 unit exams and a final. There are a few online quizzes, too, but they're not worth much of your grade. It is attainable to do well if you just start studying for exams early and use the practice problems.
grabiner was honestly one of the best professors ive had so far in college he's quite chill and his exams aren't the hardest imo as long as you study the lecture slides and lectures themselves (which he records if you don't want to go to class since attendance isn't mandatory) you're pretty much guaranteed at least an A or A- big enjoyer of him :D
If you dont look over your notes you will drown in his class. I suggest taking the other professor and try to avoid him if possible.
He records lectures but tests are difficult like A B C AorC or All of the above (application based), little room for error since tests are 85% of ur grade. To see mistakes u have to go to office hours where he pulls up the question on his computer (2 questions limit) so u never learn from ur mistakes or even look at the test. Avoid for ur sanity
Your entire grade depends on the exams, but honestly just go to the lectures, take good notes and you'll be fine. He's a great lecturer!
He's a good but not a great professor imo. Great organization and resources on canvas, exams are on paper but you def have to put in a good amount of studying for them. Quizzes are online and he gives a lot of practice problems which really helps. If you put in the work you'll do well in his class.
85% of your grade is exams. He does drop the lowest exam but I would spend hours studying and still just do mediocre. He talks super fast but records lectures so you can go back. He gives a good amount of practice I just wish wasnt so exam heavy. You also don't ever see your full exam! Good prof and nice guy just a rough if your're a bad test taker
I would avoid him if you can. His lectures are very tedious. No matter what, you will have to go back to the lecture slides, and it still won't have everything you need for his exam. I don't recommend going to his office hours; he is very condescending and doesn't help at all. If you don't understand the way he teaches it, you will fail.
Good Teacher…just make sure to really understand the topics
I'm gonna be so honest, I just didn't like him. He clearly has no desire to be teaching, is rude and condescending to students who simply ask questions, and majorly overcomplicates simple concepts. His exams were wordy and often focused heavily on concepts only mentioned briefly in lecture. Exams are also very few questions and 85% of your grade.
Unengaged and rude. Take another professor for BIOL 2301.
I didn't really have any interactions with him, but he has a very lecture heavy class. His tests felt more like reading comprehension questions and would be worded strangely. Very exam heavy, make sure to do the quizzes he assigned over and over again to get the hang of how he likes to work questions.
straight As till i met this guy. his tests are weighted heavily, very few mcq with multiple options, u can't even learn from ur mistakes cuz hes a paranoid delusionist so u get to look at the exam 10 feet away on his computer screen (2q limit) i studied my heart out rewatching his lectures word-word and still his tests were confusing and very wordy
Grabiner was a good professor -- he's very passionate about what he teaches and he knows a lot about it. Attendance is not mandatory he records every lecture. However, his tests are difficult and for those who don't know how to study the material will struggle -- it's mostly memorization. If you're willing to put the work in, you will do well.
Brilliant lecturer. MC tests can be a little wordy and tricky at times, but college-level readers should be prepped for them. Practice quizzes and lecture slides provides everything you need for the exams. All lectures are recorded. Useful review lectures prior to every exam.
Dr. G was an incredible professor; he presented information in a way that made sense and gave plenty of practice material that reflected the questions well. Questions could be a bit conveluded some times but if you put time into practice they shouldnt trip you up. He was very passionate about the subject and I reccomend attending each lecture.
He does a great job of making difficult concepts a more digestible. Lectures are recorded and not mandatory but going helps a lot. You can tell that he wants you to do well, but you have to put in the effort. Exams are entirely multiple choice, which I found to be tough. But, he replaces your lowest midterm score with your final grade which helps
Dr. G's class has been one of my favorites! Classes are lecture heavy, but they are really engaging and he structures them in a way that is easy to understand and pick up (they are also recorded, which is helpful). He gives you so many resources to do well in his exams (do the practice problems he makes!). Definitely recommend taking him.
