This class is super interesting and so incredibly easy! Hall is very clear and helpful. The essays he assigns are simple. He is not very tough when grading your essays. Getting an A on them is a snap! Take this class.

He's a very intense dynamic teacher. Nit picks written material so cross your t's and dot the i's. Easy going manner in person. Very good lecturer. Makes the class flow very well.

His lectures are clear and interesting. The homework was really easy. His essays are easy to write. He even gives you examples of good and bad essays to look at. Best of all, there is NO required text book.

Mark has set opinions about the media and will not waiver on them, so write what he wants to hear. Class is very easy, with little homework. Mark does an excelent job at hiding his political preference. Overall he is a good teacher who cares about his students.

This class is filled with a ton of information. The web sites on WebCTV are very informative, and I spent hours researching who really runs the media just clicking around on those sites. I found Professor Hall to be always available to answer any questions, clarify a statement, or point me in the right direction for my academic career. He's #1

great class with very interesting information. he welcomes discussions in his class. attendance is extremely important. examples, examples, examples is what he looks for in writing. Hardly any homework at all. dont take his class if you have bad attendance. attendance is critical.

One of the best classes I have ever had. I learned more useful information that really made me think than most other classes. Mr. Hall was especially helpful and friendly and went out of his way to make sure I passed the class.

I found the class very informative and enjoyable. It definitely changed my perspective on mass media in society.

Very liberal, assignments are extremely slanted left. Uses the documentary "Outfoxed" as a teaching tool. Also is a harsh critic on essays, my essays usually average low A's with other teachers, but I was barely scoring B's in this class. Conservative opinions beware.

The last posting is very biased. Mr. Hall is very open to all points of view. In fact, he encourages students to not believe what he says and challenge him at all times. I am a very conservative Christian student and I never felt he was biased against me in any way....a great class from a great instructor

Took this over the summer. Very interesting class. The lectures were great and made understanding the material easy. Just do you work and you will get a good grade. He grades easy as long as you give him what he is looking for. I recommend this teacher and will be taking more classes from him.

If you make the word requirement on your essays, automatic C, no matter how bad they are. If you want something higher though, you gotta put in a little more effort.

Great class. Attendence is critical to earning an A. I learned more about the media than I had ever considered before. He is enthusiastic, knowledgeable (he worked as a journalist for newspapers, radio and TV) and open to all opinions. He is very good at hiding is personal point of view. I never felt I was being brainwashed. Questions are welcome

Mark Hall is the kind of instructor who expects his students to think for themselves. His class is more like a vacation than an obligation. I watched movies for a semester and pulled an easy A. Great to take for a fluff class, unless this is your chosen field of study, in which case it is mandatory to take the class.

I took Halls intro to film class. I really enjoyed it because he shows movies that are not your typical hollywood films. Really helped me to appreciate films and what goes into making them. Just show up to the class, and you will do fine. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher!

The online class is easy, but he grades really tough on essays. He says its cuz ur not following directions. He says ur class grade will be average of the 3 essays, but he only gives A's or C's. So I got 1 A and 2 C's... that would be a B, right? No; I got a C.

Very cut and dry. He spells out what is required. If you do the work you pass. He makes assignments and deadlines clear. No late work, no whining, no excuses, just get your work done and you'll be fine.

I took his online RTVF12 course. You have to watch a lot of videos. They are very interesting however and you do learn a lot of cool things about the media general. If you have questions he is very quick to respond and grades homework/essays very fast. Highly recommend.

Very good internet class on film. Units were very straightforward and easy to follow. There is also no text book required, which proves the professor knows what he is teaching. Highly recommended.

Since it is an online class he's really good at keeping communication. He also grades in how much better your papers get. So you actually learn to write better papers. I also learned a lot about television and its influences. Overall I would suggest this class.

I took Intro to Film. It is a great class! You learn a lot in his class. He makes the material fun, and exciting. If you are looking for easy A's quit Butte! This is not a boring class, and it is available on-line. This is my second class with him, and it was great, and although he seems tough, he really is a great guy. One who knows his %@&*!

At first I was nervous about taking another course with Hall, because he is a tough grader. But the subject is so interesting... and I've found if you're really careful and review what you're writing he's not such a tough grader anymore. He offers templates to help structure your papers and so long as you use it and good content the class is cake.

Fun class and informative too! Would recommend this class to anyone looking for a transferable course to the CSU/UC system.

I liked this class online. Lectures were online. The 3 essays are 100% of your grade, if you turn in your completed worksheets. If you don't, automatic D. If you don't do all 3 essays, automatic F. Use TONS of examples in your essays from his lectures and textbook. Lets you know how to improve. The discussions are easy - You just have to do them.

I found Mark Hall's film course to be thoroughly enjoyable. If you watch the assigned film each week, turn in your work on time, and actively participate in the discussions, you should do well. Mark Hall requests SPECIFIC examples in essays and discussions. This should not be hard. We watched some inspirational films! Good teacher!

Loved this class. It was great to hear comments from Mark Hall. He has to really work hard to teach an internet class. I found the open book tests to be a little strange, but perhaps they serve a purpose. Challenging class! I would take more classes from Mr. Hall

This is a great class, and a great professor. Lots of lecture, but he makes great points. It's an easy course and you walk away with a whole new mindset!!

Mark Hall is an excellent instructor. Period. I am a returning student after a 20 year hiatus and he made that transition a wonderful one for me. His use of articles and videos made the class so much more interesting than just reading a textbook. I know I will keep my folder of notes I took in his class forever. Keep teaching, Mark!

Took this online. The video worksheets were tedious and made an otherwise enjoyable video lecture a pain. Other than that, great material. Glad I took the class.

I really enjoyed the class and thought the essay part was easy. He clearly states the format he wants to see and gives examples. I learned alot in this class and would recommend it to others.

Great, easy, interesting class. Clear instructions, only an idiot doesn't get it. 3 essays required, but the exact format and examples are given to you, follow them and have no problem. You get to choose the topic and have the entire semester to do them. Mr. Hall wrote the book and the chapters are short/clear. I look at tv entirely different now.

A tough teacher in mass media and society, but a different one in video production. I took both his class. Video production is fun. Go out shoot footage and edit them. Watch video on how to edit and shoot. Watch other classmate videos too. Learn how video are really made. Watch video differently. Mark give useful advice in film and edit.

i took mass media and society online this semester. overall, the class was easily understandable. it is practically impossible to fail since most of the assignments are discussions. he is pretty tough on grading the essays though.

I thought he had a great lectures!! They were so interesting and easier to understand because of all the different examples. Overall i learned a lot from this class. I really enjoyed it .

The video lectures are very informational and interesting, the discussions are fun and easy, and the essays are easy as long as you follow the syllabus. If you put the effort in, a good grade is easy to come by. :)

The class was very cool I enjoyed going. I would not recommend it tho. Your over all grade is based off your final essay. He grades like a 70mph headon with a big rig. He acts like you should be happy just passing. I cant stand it when G.E. teachers have that attitude. He will put a Knife in your G.P.A. and feel justified doing it.

The weekly assignments were informational. The essays were tough. My last essay showed improvement and I received a B for the class. I would recommend it to everyone.

Interactive class that is intrusive to your schedule. The 'Online' class offers freedom, but with all the valuable lessons there is a lot to learn. Time must be managed very well from the beginning. Through media he achieves his magnificent ability to connect himself to the subject and learning becomes interesting.

Do not take this class from Mark Hall! The class and Mark himself are wonderful resources of information. Let someone else struggle with Mark so you can look over their shoulder and actually learn!

I took the class online and the video lectures were awesome. They had some great footage and made their point very well. the essays were a bit hard to write. He wanted an old school format of essay writing that I'm not used to. All in all, a very informative and enlightening curriculum.

I would like to add that for those willing to actually write an intelligible paper (it is a college course, after all), you'll have no problem getting an "A" in the class. I have had this professor for three online classes. He is great and I wish he taught more. I especially liked the Mass Media and society class. One of the best classes I have ever taken and it was online. No text book. Only the papers count for the grade so a lot of work is wasted. That is a disappointment.

Pretty good on-line film class. No textbook to buy all reading online. Discussions are worth 10pts, and there are quizzes, but only the papers count for a grade. Seems unfair to not count the other work. Still a pretty good class.

Sociology 12 is also the same class.. i took this class online. the material he provided was great. just keep up on your video lecture worksheets and you will be sure to pass the course. a total of 3 essays were assigned (there were plenty of options you can write on) one bulletin posting per week and 9 worksheets you mail in at end of term

I really enjoyed this class. Mark is a great prof who knows what he is talking about. No textbook. 3 papers that weren't difficult at all, they make you really think because you have to back up your ideas. Attendence is required but he makes that known from the start and its not hard to follow. Easy to understand and interesting material.

This is exploring contemporary film. Amazing class. Each week you do reading and watch documentaries and then a feature film and have a posting due about it. As well as 3 essays for the semester. Info is fun and clear and easy to understand. Work is not difficult and doesn't take very long. Have to post by due date or topic is locked.

Exploring contemporary television. I took this course online and loved it. The material was interesting, the instructions are all on the syllabus and it is crystal clear what he expects out of you. Its fairly easy work...you just have to be prepared to do it. do not get behind or it will catch up with you bigtime. I do recommend this online class.

One of the best classes I have taken. His instructions were very clear and it was simple to earn A's on his three essays. Mark helped me a lot with planning future classes and getting setup with an internship. I will be taking his other online classes.

Loved this class regardless of my final grade. Instructions for class clear and specific. If I had quest./concerns, Mark responded immed. Tough grader on essays, but only to make us think and to more clearly express our thoughts/ideas. wish I could take it again when I had more time to devote. FYI weekly videos equal participation not part of grade

He's very straight forward, when it comes to comments about your paper, and you have to spend hours watching videos, but i learned quite a bit, and im very happy i took the class, his grading criteria is different, he ecpects alot from students, which is how it should be.

I took this class online and had absolutely no problems at all. The teacher was very helpful and explained fully what he expected. You can't just do the essays and plan to pass, you MUST do the posts every week or you will fail. I can't see any reason for horrible ratings, other then lazy/whiny students who didnt do their work and failed the class

I enjoyed the class. As far as his teaching, I found it very straight forward. He has example A-grade and C-grade essays for people that need help. I got a C on my first essay, and A's on the other two. He told me what I needed to fix to get an A, and promptly replied to my emails (even on a weekend). He has great link resources for the class.

His courses are hard, because he expects students to work hard as adults, not kids. If you don't like to work hard,go to McDonalds and work; then come back and take a course very where he demands you think for yourself. I'd recomend Mr. Hall any day. I learned much and gained valuable analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and writing skills.

Intro to film online was nice, only post 1per wk n 2 response to peers, no text book all online info n films. Fairly easy just dont wait til last min to post cuz repeat get 0 credit so u'll have to read every1 to make sure. 1st essay confused me but after emailing he clarified expectations 4 future essays.Would recommend

Mr. Hall does not deserve some of the harsh comments he has received. He is a teacher who pushes his students to work hard and write better. He always responded to my questions and provided me with writing examples. Hall can't control the "voice" students place on his emails. He's not perfect, but he is still a good teacher.

Mark Hall is an excellent teacher. I have read what others have said and I know why they rate him poorly. It is because he expects college level essays and give constructive criticism on everything written. Most people don't like to be criticized on what they write so they rate him poorly. Mr. Hall communicates very well both in his lectures&email

I am glad the instructor had his own textbook available to the students. He has great interaction skills which is especially important for an online class. He took time to give individual feedback, and always responded to questions. Video lectures were very explanatory and informational. His passion for the content of the class was motivational.

One of the best teachers I've had. He taught me more about media than I ever realized. His approach to grading helped me improve my writing so much I went from a C to an A in his class. It also helped me get an A in my other GE class

Mark Hall is an honest guy. He gives good feedback. You may not receive the grade you feel you deserve at first, but he will tell you what you need to do. If you simply show improvement throughout the class, he will give you the best grade you earned. I would suggest him. He honestly improves your creative writing, and teaches interesting material!

Despite all of the low ratings he has received, he is an excellent professor. If you're serious about learning how to write, he will show you how. He has a low tolerance for laziness and not turning in work. But if you try hard you'll definitely do well. I took one of his classes and got a C, but then I took two more of his classes and got As!

Just the facts. He's not interested in your insight he wants specific examples to support your discussion posts. I enrolled in the 6 weeks class, if it were one module a week I would have done much better. He provides clear criteria for passing the class in the syllabus. I'm a mother, wife, work full time and take 12 units, this class is do-able,

A little intense at times, but Professor Hall has crafted an excellent and informative class, which is noteworthy considering that it's online. This is one of the three classes that I've had that I regularly think back to and apply. Expect to be held to a normal, adult level of responsibility, and to provide evidence for your claims.
