He is hilarious!! I loved his class. Don't believe all the "bad" rumors about him. He's a great person!
He's sooooo not a teacher I look forward to going to class for. He can be nice but he seems more impressed with himself.
He makes learning fun- even something as dry as statistics. He is very good at explaining, and "leaving no man behind" in his lectures.
His classes require you to read the book 2/3 times a week adn go to class, but if you do that it's cake. He's really a good guy, funny too.

Here's a pretty good teacher. He keeps you interested with what is going on in the class by cracking jokes (that are actually funny) here and there to see if people are paying attention and it will benefit you a lot if you pay attention...
Horrible suject, statistics, but if it could be made somewhat clear or interesting he does. The homework is a major pain!, but its one of things like shots.. good for you in the end, without the homework I'd be failing.
Dont believe the rumors, its a horrible subject but a great professor. He will help you if you ask.
He was very cocky and cracked some jokes that could have offended others. Can be annoying sometimes. other than that, great professor.
Very enjoyable professor. I tried to take stats the semester previous to taking his course and did very poorly, resulting in having to drop the course. He made the subject matter very understandable and (I hate to say it) fun. I really looked forward to going to his class on Tues. and Thurs.
He is funny and cool, and he knows how to keep his audience's attention. He uses scenarios that relate to the students; HE relates to the students. His tests are a bit difficult because he has goofy multiple choice answers like, "Both A & C, but not B"<~this is confusing! Regardless, take his class.
He is a good teacher. Don't listen to the nasty rumors that you hear about him. Just take good notes and email him with the smallest question.
Extremely challenging class, very helpful professor
Good professor who is actually funny! Sometimes, that's hard to come by. One other thing, I don't know if it's just me, but doesn't he remind you of Ross on Friends?!
Taking him this semester. He isn't easy, but definately a fair teacher. Stay indifferent with him and you should be fine.
Homework was a pain and time consuming, but well worth it in the end. Boring subject but he was funny and made it as exciting as statistics can be. I recommend taking him!
Dr. Hamlin has quality lectures and he explains things very well. Stats is the worst subject to teach and learn, but he seems to add a new attitude toward this subject. He's a great professor!
no matter who teaches it this class sucks. he can be an ass sometimes but he is fair and funny. attendence is a must and he sometimes gives bonus. dont freak out and stay with it and its not too bad. homework grades are curved at the end of the semester also tests are curved
Sorry but this guy is awful and everyone of you who rated him knows that. I have never had a problem with a prof except for Dr. HAMLIN. (Be sure to call him that, he is pretty full of himself) He is not helpful, unclear, and doesn't care. Took Stats with Knight and made an A.
Dr. Hamlin is an excellent teacher. If you are willing to do your homework and if you have any knowledge of math whatsoever... it is definitely possible to do well in his class!!! He wants you to learn the material, and he teaches it to you.
Stats sucks but he does a good job teaching it. He can be funny but he's an ass-I couldn't stand his personality. You MUST come to class & pay attention: if you do this & study you should be fine. If you're having a really hard time from the start: drop! it gets harder!
Extremely arrogant and rude. Don't even think about being late and it's very easy to get lost so don't miss class! There might have been 3 classes he didn't assign homework, so plan on staying busy. It takes at least 30 mins, sometimes an hour. NOT RECOMMENDED...
Those who complain about Hamlin are just lazy and don't want to work. This is college people! Yes, Hamlin requires his students to actually show up to class on time and work. If you can't handle that, you shouldn't be in college. Hamlin is a great professor and I'd take him for every class if I could.
Awesome!
he grades hard, doesn't explain things clearly, is rude to students, don't waste your time.
He is up front about his expectations, and all the assignments are laid out in the syllabus. However, he makes the class harder than it needs to be, and he is very unapproachable. He can be rude to some students during class, which makes things uncomfortable for all the students in class who witness it.
If you do what he says and study for the tests you'll have no problem but you need to reed his ways to PO the Proff. There great!!
I had 3 classes with Hamlin and I was his TA for two semesteres. He is the best! I even had my husband take a class of his!
He is an awesome teacher. He doesnt have a much of a tolerance for students that are not serious, so if this is you, dont bother signing up for his classes. If you are a serious student then he is interesting, very smart, and has a talent for making his topic interesting. If you arent afraid of being challenged, then prepare to be enlightened.
For those of you that hate Dr. Hamlin because he doesn't tolerate tardiness & laziness, well, you shouldn't be in college. He is tough, and his tests are tricky, but if you ask him for help, be it after class or in his office, he is always willing to help. You just have to take the first step.
Nice guy, but the class sucks and his TA was not nice, took points out of everything. there was homework everyday of class and only worth 5pts, homework can take anywhere from 30mins to hours so be prepared and if you enrolled and think its easy enjoy cuz it gets harder and harder
I think he's a nice person, but is intimidating. if you ask him about things after class he's usually ok.I think he works himself up into a statisitical frenzy and seems threatening if you ask a question. To those of us not mathmatically inclined the book sucks. I didn't like the class but it's not his fault.
It's hard but it's worth it if you are into psychology
The class is not that tough, kinda a lot of homework. If you did okay in college algebra then the math is not that bad. He is a real strickler for attendance and stuff like that. I do think he can be a little bit of an ego maniac and a ass at times
Motivation and Emotion was an excellent class. He does require you to actually read the text and attend class, but if you do those things it's not exceptionally difficult. He's very easy to talk to outside of class and available to help if there's something you don't understand. By far my favorite this year.
He is very good as a techer;however, his grading system SUCKS!!!!! And he knows it too.
Dr. Hamlin is an awesome prof. I would take him for everything if I could. He is big on attendence...and being on time...but if you can manage that then you will be ok. Definitely have to read the text from cover to cover though.
This professor is amazing! He is challenging, but completely fair. You have an open book quiz every day you start a new chapter, and you have to read the chapter ahead of time or you will do poorly. You get points for attendance, and you need to go to class so he can explain the concepts. He does a great job at using personal stories to explain them!
Dr. Hamlin is awesome! He is hilarious but can sometimes go too fast through new material. Stats is not as hard as the rumors say. He is an excellent teacher who makes stats fun. His tests are hard and can be tricky if you're not prepared so study. Questions are similar to those on the homework. I wish he taught advanced stats.
Dr. Hamlin is an amazing professor. He teaches very well and where it is easy to understand. Stats is nowhere as difficult as it is rumored. I really wish that he taught Advanced Stats because I would definitely take him. I will take him again if I get the chance.
He is such a nice and funny guy. He is understanding and willing to help. The subject is really hard though, but he explains it well.
Dr. Hamlin is an awesome professor. This class is a lot of fun and Dr. Hamlin makes it interesting. The tests aren't that hard, but you do need to read the book and the supplement book or you'll be completely lost. Attendanace is also really important to Dr. Hamlin, so make sure that you're there.
If you want to do good in this class study, do your home work and study in your spare time some more. He's helpful if you go to his office but watch of for his bad days because he can be very rude and short. overall he's a great teacher. We all have our flaws and Dr. Hamlin's is that he's a control freak a bit narcissistic. He's fun. Study!!!!!!
This class is'nt as hard as it appears coming into it. The final however, is EXTREMELY HARD!! No ammount of studying will help! Cool guy, tests arent too bad, the Final SUCKS!
Not difficult at all. Tests might seem hard to some but he curves based on the highest grade. Quizzes aren't bad either. Not reading the book will drop your grade fast. Never be late or leave early, take notes, laugh at his jokes (which are actually funny), and come out of there with a 95% easily. There's no reason you should make less than an 85%.
I enjoyed having Dr. Hamlin for a teacher. He has a great way of presenting the material so that everyone can understand it. Going to class is important - or your grade will suffer. Overall a great teacher that keeps you on your toes and makes sure you leave the class with thorough knowledge of the subject.
I had him for intro to statistics. I had to drop the class. I dont understand why everyone rates Dr.Hamlin so high. He is very pleasent in front of the class as a whole but is extremely arrogant and inflexible when he deals with students individually. I had a family emergancy and he was very insensitive and rude about it. I would not take him!
I've had him twice, & i enjoyed both classes! I think he can be arrogant at times, but he explains things very detailed so that anyone can understand. Tests are easy if you actually go to class, take notes and read. He is very helpful and smart. Good professor, makes you work hard, but if you do you can definitely get an A!
Dr. Hamlin is an excellent professor! Even though his tests are somewhat "tricky", throughout the semester, I looked forward to going to this class, due to his terrific lectures and the information that we would learn.
If you are uneasy about stats and you take Dr. Hamlin's class: come to class EVERY DAY, take VERY good notes, ask lots of questions (he doesn't mind), and think about getting a tutor. He's a good teacher, but sometimes things don't stick the first time around. The more involved you are, the better you'll do.
I've had him for 5 classes now, and I like him more each time. M&E is the most fun class I've had with him (& possibly the easiest. A lot of the material is just rehash from his other classes). Attendance is mandatory. Clever/insightful lectures & great sense of humor make up for the boring book. Tests are easy & curved. Excellent prof.
He is fun. the class is enjoyable and helpful! I like him!
i've had hamlin for 3 classes now. i have loved every one. he always keeps me very interested, and is a tremendous lecturer. yes he is a stickler for attendance and punctuality, but heaven forbid you actually show up for class, and on time. there is also homework, but it's school. his classes aren't easy, but they have always seemed fair.
I loved Taking this class with professor Hamlin. I took the Gen Psych class during the summer and it went by so fast, but i learned a lot. He is strict about attendance. at first i didnt know how to take notes in his class because it is so random (moving fast), but once i got a hang of it, it became my fav. Take him if you want to learn easily!!
Dr. Hamlin is a good professor although at times can seem to go a bit too fast if your mind isn't statistics oriented. Read the chapters before he lectures over them and ALWAYS go to class. It isn't easy, but passing shouldn't be a problem if you put in the time.
Prof Hamlin was great as a person, but I didn't like his teaching style. I felt he went too fast and was all over the place during lectures. He was very unapproachable for questions.
Had him for intro stats. Took his evolution of human sexual behavior intersession class. The homework wasn't easy, but the class was always interesting. He explained everything very clearly and answered any questions that we had. You will definitely know the material for any class he teachers by the time it's over. Take him!!
For Evol. of Human Sex Behavior. This class was VERY interesting but if you're just looking to get extra credits I do not recommend taking it. Getting about two hours of sleep per night outlining ~100 pages was NOT worth it. He wants DETAILED outlines. He is an awesome professor but as a person he seems a little arrogant and uncaring.
I enjoyed the class, although the material was difficult. I felt that Dr. Hamlin's teaching style made it easier to learn.
Excellent professor, nice personality. I had problems due to personal issues.
Attendence was mandatory, with zero room for life circumstances. Very unapproachable for help, sometimes arrogant with his communication. Intresting, charismatic lectures. Black and white material, crystal clear expectations. MUCH HIGHER expectations and much more homework assigned than the other psych stats teachers
His lectures are engaging and he explains the material well. His tests are tough, but he is gracious with the curve. You will do well if you read the material and try the homework before class. Be prepared, because he will call on you in class! I learned a lot from him, but it was a lot of work.
If you want to learn stats, take Hamlin. He is tough, has high expectations, and zero tolerance for b.s. (late arrival, cell phones). All that said, I have breezed through Adv. Stats(w/ Dr.Mather)because of how hard he made us work last semester! He grades on a very generous curve and gives several extra credit opps toward the end. Love Dr.H!
TA for Intro Stats: Hamlin is pretty easy to TA for- he gives a rubric for grading that shows points. Would TA for him again.
Dr. Hamlin is an excellent professor! He is really easy to listen to and he is really funny. As far as being nice, if you respect him he will respect you. Anytime I asked for something he was willing to help. Yes, you do actually have to read, do homework, and go to class.
I would highly suggest not taking him. Most of the material that was on the exams was not talked about in class. He is very vague and uninteresting. I was hoping to enjoy this class, but due to him I just wanted to get out of there every day. DO NOT TAKE HIM! Find another professor.
Interesting class. Test questions come from lecture and the textbook so take notes and read the chapters. Attendance is part of your grade. Really enjoyed this class. =]
This guy is awesome. He is a great person to be around. Great professor. He makes the class interesting. Homework is given online most of the time. Attendance is mandatory. Don't skip class. He also has pet peeves about phones. Don't consider using it during class. By far, he's the best teacher I've had in 18 years. Would take his class anytime!
I took Dr. Hamlin many years ago for several classes. He was the best prof. I have ever had! I teach a Psych class now and use everything he tought me! AMAZING PROFESSOR! :)
Tests are difficult and you MUST read before class and come prepared. That may seem awful but it's for your benefit and keeps you on top of things. You cannot keep up with this class if you don't read. The lectures are fun. Oh yeah... Come to class, wear broncho pride & don't be late.
I think he is a nice guy...cute too, lol. However, the lectures tend to be a little too fast to write notes of good quality. He does have strict rules you need to follow.
I had Hamlin for both intro and advanced stats. he was by far the best teacher. he made it challenging, but really WANTED to be there and was always available for extra help.
Dr. Hamlin is my absolute favorite psychology professor (along with Dr. Rupp). He is very knowledgeable and helpful but at the same time he expects you to do the work. like any teacher would. He is the chair of the psychology department so get to know him. Also he is ADORABLE!
If you plan to be a psychologists, learning why you use statistics is imperative. Dr. Hamlin layers the learning process with lectures, homework, and challenging material. If you go to class and ask for help when you need it, you'll get it.
You must show up and you must be present mentally as well. Do not wear another school shirt to his class (other than UCO, ie: OSU & OU) unless you're prepared to answer questions all period. He is clear and explains material well. Do not overthink it. You have to study for the tests though and use your time wisely as the tests cover a lot.
I hate stats but he made me love it! Don't get me wrong this is not an easy class but as long as you try and study you should do fine. I thought he was a fantastic teacher. I would take him for another course if I could.
Dr. Hamlin is an amazing professor. His lectures are amazing. You still have to do the work and put time into it. Stats isn't an easy class but he does his best to make sure you understand it.
Dr. Hamlin is an awesome professor! He's very passionate about teaching, and makes statistics interesting. Stat is very difficult especially if you're not good at math, but he really does explain things clearly and tries his hardest to make it fun for us. Plus, he's the Dean of Psychology, so it's good to get to know him!
I love Dr. Hamlin! Stats was super hard, but he makes it interesting and thoroughly explains everything. If you do the work, go to class, and see him in office hours you will be fine! He even had tutoring for 2 hours on Fridays, I went every time and understood everything so much better in that setting. EFFORT IS KEY!
Make sure that you take notes during lecture, as well as read the textbook religiously. Not doing so will hurt you drastically. Also, Dr. Hamlin can be very impatient while teaching statistics because he thinks that you should instantly retain everything he tells you. He offers help outside of class but I would recommend just going to a tutor.
Dr. Hamlin was a great professor. He's not lying when he said "It takes practice" or you'll get lost. Unlike most of my other classes, there is no "purging" after each exam. They all build on each other so you have to make sure you really know what you are doing after each class. Not that it matters, but he's fun to look at (:
One of the best professors I've ever had. Took him for stats, and was scared of failing because it's -- Stats. But he made the lectures fun & very understandable. He grades on a curve, which saved a lot of our butts, haha. I'm going to take him for every class I can tbh.
Took him for Ev. of Human Sex Behavior intersession. Lots of useful info I didn't expect and more guys should take it. He's super professional teaching this course as well. If you take as an intersession, buy the book and read it ALL ahead of time!!! It will definitely save you the headache and make outlines easier!
Ive had Hamlin for 2 years. He gives great lectures and a ton of extra credit/ curving. Make sure to attend class. As long as you understand concepts he is fair with grading. Wear Broncho for extra credit! Stats is never easy but he makes it as understanding as possible. Great professor! It also helps that he is eye candy
He's ok exams are hard the class itself is hard. Nice guy tho very caring and nice. Study the chapters you will be fine.
Dr. Hamlin is a nice guy. He is funny and keeps you engaged but if you struggle in stats and have anxiety I dont recommend to have him for advanced stats. He lectures but he fishes for answers on every single student in the class. He also takes forever grading tests (about 3 weeks in average) that makes harder to know if you will pass or not.
Professor Hamlin is a great professor, but he's difficult to follow in advanced stats. Homework wasn't graded until halfway through the semester so all grades were given at one time, and the same mistakes were counted off for every assignment due to lack of grading criteria being stated. Tests are difficult, but you get to take a formula notecard.
Professor Hamlin was more interested in telling us to put our phones away than teaching us statistics. He has very specific rules and takes a very long time to grade tests. He came off as rude and condescending.
He is a great person and professor. I had him for motivation and emotion. Overall a very sweet guy but every single day is lecture so I would not skip any of his classes! As long as you show up to class and put in the effort you should be fine! Tests are somewhat hard and time consuming but he gives you three days to do them and they are open book.
I took Dr. Hamlins Motivation and Emotion class and really enjoyed it! I enjoyed the lectures and the material was pretty interesting. Would definitely take this professor again. Also really enjoyed his sense of humor. The tests can be hard, but I enjoyed that part of the test was essay questions. Listen to the lectures and youll do great.
I took Professor Hamlin for an intersession class. He was great! The class was intense but I wasn't expecting any less. We had outlines every night that were extremely time-consuming. You can tell he cares about the students and treats us as equals which is always a plus. I'm hoping I can take him again!
One of my favorite professors at UCO. I have never taken him before but his class was one of my favorites this semester. Definitely go to every lecture as the class material can be difficult to understand individually but his instructions always made for an easy semester for a difficult subject. He does a different type of test each exam so prepare
Professor Hamlin is a great teacher. He goes through the material thoroughly and gives real world examples that you can relate to. Attendance and participation is a huge part. He is tough but in the best way possible! Always easy to reach and get help from, definitely recommend going to his office hours for clarity if needed.
Dr. Hamlin kept my attention and focus throughout all of his lectures. His class was fascinating and informative, and he often engages with everyone in the class, so participation is a must. Attendance IS required, and you are only allowed two absences the whole semester before you are docked points, so this is something to consider when taking him
Could use work in the empathy dept. Couldn't care less if you're sick, even with note from doctor. If you miss something, you're not getting a chance to make it up & he won't hesitate to tell you he doesn't care. Five test are 70% of the grade, but he does use a generous curve on each test AND at the end of the semester. Slowest grader in history.
Hamlin is not empathic, and is big on being in control at all times. He is passionate about what he teaches and he engages the students and is reached outside of class. However he lacks the ability to grade anything but tests and is somewhat confrontational with students. Also no using the bathroom during class or you will be docked points!
Gives out hw like you have no other classes. In lectures he is arrogant and condescending. He once laughed and mocked when I asked a clarifying question (which he later apologized for, but it deterred me from asking questions). Only reason I am giving him "Okay" is because I've had Vanhoy and she's worse. I recommend Rerick for any stats courses.
I had Dr. Hamlin for an intercession course and really enjoyed his teaching style. He is TOUGH, don't get me wrong and the work load is intense. For an intercession, expect to be there the full 8-5:30 all five days as well as 4ish hours of homework a night. He will do his part keeping you engaged and I truly learned alot from this class.
Inflexible. Thinks his class the most important thing. Emergencies don't exist. Teaches & tests based on his inaccurate definitions of words/concepts. Even if your answer is right (and have proof), if you disagree w/ him, he'll count it wrong. Stay away. I wouldn't take his class again. He's the sole reason I'm taking History and Systems online.
Best instructor I have had at UCO - make sure you read and come to class ready to talk EVERY class or he will call on you!
Dr. Hamlin is one of my favorite professors at UCO! I have learned more from his classes than any other classes I've taken. His classes a very test heavy and will challenge you, but as long as you are willing to put in the effort and take it seriously you can make a good grade.
This is my second time having Dr. Hamlin. I enjoyed the class quite a lot as I learned so much! This class is lecture-heavy, attendance is mandatory, and there's not too much writing, which is nice. Just beware that if you miss class often, your grade will drop. There's a lot of testing, as for every chapter you will have a quiz.
Motivation & Emotion is an awesome class - take it!!! The daily gratitude journals were a grind but were really helpful. Hamlin lectures alot but he is funny and the material is super interesting - I use what we learned in class a lot!
If you've never taken a stats class, please take it with Hamlin. He is absolutely amazing at teaching. Exams are curved, and there are two assignments per week with the final being cumulative. Just make sure to attend class and do the homework, as if you miss often, you will fall behind fast. His office is always open and he will tutor occasionally.
Wouldn't recommend taking his class. Attendance policy is unrealistic, you have three passes at being absent every other one after that is 15 pts off your grade. Then if you're tardy even by 5 minutes, you're counted absent & that's another 15 pts. UCO is a commuter school, people have families & emergencies. He needs to learn to accommodate that
