His exams are too hard for everyone, doesn't explain by step by step, sometimes he's not helpful, too fast to go through and NEVER review for the exams.
For a 101 class.. it totally was hard. And not only that, it was like we had a million tests, and quizzes. And the projects were very intense. I would not recommend this teacher. :(

Needs to stop using his ties for economics examples.

Takes something easy and makes it impossible. Rather than explaining concepts, he prefers to talk down to the class, accuse students of not studying, and of still being asleep. He could better use that time actually TEACHING.

i had the pleasure of taking both 211 and 212 with him. expect to read the book with this guy or do bad. his tests and quizes are hard. i guarantee that at least 10 people will drop this class before drop date deadline. has a weird ass laugh.
Rough exams - if you work full time & plan to take this class, make it the ONLY class. Seriously.
He makes you print this chapter outline in order to help you out but his teaching isn't clear, it's confusing, it's boring, HARD tests/quizzes, he talks ALL the time. Book might help you, but you're better off w/ another teacher- Begashaw!
if you truely want to learn subject take him. you don't have to read the book, just pay attention in class
All he did was talk about his boat.and i'm not paying to hear about his life. I DROPPED THIS CLASS IT WAS SO BAD.Avoid him take Begashaw.
Great teacher. Awesome. You actually learn something in his class and not just get an easy "A" like in Begashaw's class. I took Micro with him and liked the subject and his teaching so much that I took Macro with him too. Take him, especially if ECON is your major.

i took mr. healy because he is the chair. i recomend reading in his class its a must in any class but in his its crucial. he talks a lot about his boat and his kid, which can be interesting at first but if you get annoyed easily you'll hate him,his fam, and his stupid 1$ bin ties.but a chill teacher
This guy is insane, extremely hard to understand his concept of teaching, his tests are also very hard, he talks about his boat, kid, and tie often.
Terrible teacher, his quizes and exams are so hard. And he's not a helpful person. Don't take him.
The only thing that was clear in this class is that he had a couple boats, son, wife, he loves skiing, and fishing. He made you read these articles from Business newspapers that were really boring and he drew a lot of graphs in class. Though I should say that he is VERY nice.
Got an "A" and how did I do it? Copied every single exam off the neighbour!!! Thank you neighbour if not for you I would keep re-taking this class. Woo hoo All the rest of you good luck. P.S. one of the hardest teachers ever!!!
Terrible professor when I had him 2 years ago, but I dropped his class.
At First, I thought Mark Healy was hard, but after getting used to his teaching style and his tests ge turned out to be easy. If you are willing to study a lot and complete difficult work it is possibler to get an A like me.
Only been in class for a month and hope I vomit before class so I don't have to go. DROP IMMEDIATELY if you get him. You will FAIL unless you are a genius and hove nothing better to do than his 4 ridiculous papers that you either get an A or an F on. His class is impossible and this is coming from an almost all A's student.
All you dumb kids that say this class isn't easy either do not attend class or are not talking about any of Mark's classes. I took Micro with him last fall three tests plus a final, quizzes, and that's it. I never cracked a book and got almost a hundred percent for my final grade. The tests are entirely from what he teaches in class.
I personally believe that Mark is a good teacher, you really have to just attend "class". If you dont do the study guide problems, well I can almost assure you that you will fail the tests. THE QUESTIONS IN THE STUDY GUIDE ARE ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE QUESTIONS ON THE TESTS.
this guy is a good lecturer but very hard....his papers arnt bad, you can do as many re-writes as you want, but there is alot of out of class work required, like the study guide problems, the tests suck, he is very biased, openly professes his political, social and relgious beleifs, or disbeleifs, so he can be pretty offensive at times too
HE IS HORRIBLE! I HAVE NEVER HEARD SO MANY BAD THINGS ABOUT HIM! He tells u on the first day of class he doesn't give any A's. and 5 people will be lucky to pass...avoid him
I took the online cultural geography class w/ him last year, and I thought he was very helpful. The class was easy if you read carefully and answered the questions thoroughly.
wonderful teacher, very helpful, very clear, the best thing about him is that he makes very simple things kind of complicated so u can look at simple problems from different angles, love this teacher
This professor was worst I ever had in Harper College. He's rude, unhelpful person, his exams were too dificult that study guide didn't really help to prepare. I don't recommend to take this professor.
This guy knows his material and you will learn a vast amount in his class, but he's horribly hard and gives no leeway whatsoever on tests. I studied for hours just to get C's on tests. Test will make you cry. Genius at teaching though, his class is just ridiculously hard.
Yes his tests are killers! They've killed more students than chicken pox! Personally he is a great teacher and accepts late homework. He love's Geography and will force you to actually learn something. Don't let the voice deter you. If you can handle a REAL test with a great teacher than take him, otherwise find someone else.
If you actually want to learn something you should take this teacher. If your just looking for an easy "A" then take someone else. Very helpful and enjoyed having him.
Good teacher, good lectures, but very and I mean VERY hard tests. No matter how hard you study you will probably get around 70 - 80 %
if u do the work youll get an A.. he either gives you an A or F on every paper but you can rewrite them all until you get an A. tests aren't nearly as hard as most people say. nice guy, good teacher, would take him again
Good teacher! He is clear and makes something as complicated as micro-economics seem like a piece of cake. His examples are great..though his jokes sometimes aren't
I took Healy's online course for World Geography. He is one of the worst teachers I have had. Extremely difficult tests, harsh grading on assignments. Don't even bother taking his class, if somehow you do then withdraw. This guy is online illiterate and backwards, he makes you send in all your assignments by MAIL! You will regret it like I do.
This class was horrible! He makes a simple and fun subject like Geography way too complicated and hard for no reason. He did seem very unapproachable and distance. His test are long and difficult, your fingers will cramp up answering all his essay questions. Skip this professor by all means necessary.
I took this online over the summer. I took this class expecting an easy A. He did say during orientation that he wanted us to spend like 20 hours a week on this class, he really does expect this. He makes a simple class a lot harder than it needs. He also makes you mail in all of your assignments so it really isn't online. Don't take!
I was in his blended class and i spent twice as much time in preperation in this class than i did in any other class i've taken so far. He gives very good examples and presents the information clearly. You have to practice and do the homework just like any other class. very difficult but you will learn a lot about economics.
I didnt like him i took him and dropped
Microeconomics was ridiculous. I am a straight A student and I got a B in his class because the way he present his information does not reach students at all. He gives you tons of examples but they only apply to his life, skiing. I studied on a daily basis and managed to get a B in his class. I DO NOT RECOMMEND him unless all your classes are easy.
Would not recommend
The online course is not worth taking. 3 exams, 5 quizzes, final. The weekly assignments are a hassle. The reading is unfortunately necessary for a good grade and there's a lot of it. I barely got a D because there's just too much information for an online course. You have to be very self-motivated to succeed. I would not recommend this class.
This teacher is ok.The class is always difficult with him. But he is a nice guy, and gives u retakes on all the tests. Only downfall is, Dont expect a A when u go to his class. I am a AP Scholar with distinction, and even i couldnt get more than a B, after puttin a lot of effort into being at every class. Overall, i give him a D grade as a teacher.
This class covers a lot of info but you also learned a lot! You have to work hard to get an A in this class. It is worth it at the end!
There was a lot of text book reading involved and it seemed like I did not do well on the tests but it's true what he said... Keep doing the quizzes until you get all the points. In the end I got a B. Overall great teacher and interesting class.
He's pretty easy for an online class. He let's us redo the assignments as many times as we want before it's due and takes the highest score. Same with tests, although those have a limit on how many times you can take them. I really enjoyed this class!
TERRIBLE hated him talks about skiing too much. Def switch out if you get him
If you're an Economics major this is the professor to take. He uses examples from real life to help explain concepts during his lectures. You'll be required to read newspaper articles discussing the economy & apply your knowledge. This comes in very handy as you progress onward in your major. Do the reading, pay attention, & you'll learn alot.
I am taking the Macro online class. He overloads you with information and even though there are many, many assignments, they only count for 2pts each or nothing at all! The majority of the grade for the class is based on his impossibly hard tests. There is way too much information given and the test Qs are on minor specifics. Wouldn't recommend.
I had him for an online class. There were a lot of online tests that you actually had to go into harper to take so if you can't get to campus it's difficult. Also a lot of his notes contradict what the book says so it's hard to know what the correct answers are on activities and tests. Not horrible... not amazing average teacher..
Do not sign up with him for an online class. You have to go to the college for each quiz. Tests I would understand. Information he provides conflicts the text which does not help when taking the tests. Would avoid his class at all cost.
I took the online summer class. It was a lot of work in a short amount of time, but I don't think it was as hard as some of the comments on here. Most of his test questions came from review work, so if you study, you should get an A. I got an A in the class and put in about 15 hours a week study time (summer class)
Very off topic. Don't buy the $200 book you never use it. Will call you out if you ask a question and is not helpful at all. All he cares about is skiing, you'll realize it day 1. You have to teach yourself the material to get an a. Very easily gets behind, as he tried cramming in 3 chapters of material into 1 hour and everybody failed the exam
Horrible class. Wasn't even there on the day of the final. Doesn't do a very good.job of explaining.or making.sure students understand the terms Class consists of 12 long hw assignments that are a massive 2 pts each, 4 papers you either get a 1 or 10 on those. 3 exams and 5 quizzed & we only took 3 because he was so behind in class. Not recommended
I believe he did go through the material well enough that made this class enjoyable and insightful. If you participate in class, read the book and do the study guide, you will do well. A lot of the questions on tests and quizzes came from the required activities, so make sure do them. He is very helpful during office hours.
i had some bad eco teachers, and he is the best one. Eco is a hard subject to follow, and he points out the important staff, and if you pay attention to him, you will do good.
He knows the material he teaches. He tries to help if you fall behind but his teaching style in "all over the place" & he goes off topic so much that he ends up cramming multiple chapters together. More clarification on the material is needed and less examples of his boating or skiing.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Mostly gives examples and talks of skiing. Would NOT recommend him.
Online class, professor was EXTREMELY helpful with anything I asked. Responded to emails within hours. Gave extensions, not a hard grader, allowed test retakes. Would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone!
Awful teacher. Talked about skis and went off topic. Not clear at all. If you have prepare to be confused. And he made us buy the book but we never used it!
Study for test and you'll be fine, use his online exam reviews!!
Mark is a good teacher, but be prepared to work! We had 1-1.5 hours of videos to watch before class, two quizzes each day(class met 1/wk), and four exams. He explains the material well and his tests are fair, if your prepared. Overall a very good teacher if you want to learn the material, but make sure you have time in your schedule.
Don't buy the textbook, never used it (unless you like to learn from the book). Talks about skiing all the time. Online quizzes that you can take as many times for easy points. Exams are fairly easy. 4 papers that you can rewrite as many times. Those are useless and didn't help me learn.I copy'd a friend's perfect 10 paper, but he still gave me a 3?
Never opened the text book ~ professor had in class quizzes which brought down students grades. Don't take if you can help it. very confusing syllabus
I took an online class this summer. A lot of material can be overwhelming at first but as long as you read the book and do the practice exercises you will do good. The professor was always answering to questions and is very flexible and trying to help. I would take him.
Healy goes through his outline from Blackboard in class, and his yellow pages are very helpful. HW not mandatory, but should look over study pages before class. Study for tests and cumulative exam. Can re-take exams if you do the online required activities. Overall, I would recommend him.
Mr. Healy is a great Econ teacher. He goes off on tangents about skiing or drinking, but I find them hilarious! He explains things in an easy and clear way to understand.
He rants on about unimportant material and assumes you know everything. I would not recommend this teacher.
Healy begins his class by stating his class is not a joke. It's a joke. If you come from a halfway decent university, you will have no problem bsing through his ECO 211. If you're not the sharpest, you might have problems as things are mostly common sense if you don't use the book. (Don't buy it. You'll never use it.)
I took this class online and thought it was laid out very well for an online course. He was quick to respond to any issues or questions. I used the book mostly for reference- the online lectures are sufficient for most of the chapters. Do the practice quizzes and yellow pages and you will do ok.
Only about half the students who started actually maded it throught the year. He is a fair teacher and he teaches you everything thats on the tests so go to class. Dont really need to buy the book I never used it. For micro WATCH THE VIDEOS They really do help. Tests are based of required activities so do them and study them. Lets you retake tests
He doesn't teach you anything. You may as well just pay yourself because you have to teach the entire course to yourself. I would not take any class with him again.
Healys reviews are far too low. He is a great professor and you will do fine if you go to class. The people complaining about him are most likely lazy and not willing to learn. Material is hard but he lets you retake exams, rewrite papers and gives no homework. I took him for both macro and micro and I would recommend you do the same! Dont buy book
Healy lets you retake all 3 exams, rewrite all 4 papers until you get 100% on them, and you can tell he enjoys teaching economics. There is a lot of material so studying and doing your part outside of class is mandatory!! Don't buy the book but do watch the videos and do the online quizzes. He uses the quizzes to write the test questions!
I loved Healy. He is such a fair teacher its almost impossible to fail. If you're lazy, well then yeah you might as well drop it now. He lets you re-do everything: The tests, the papers, the required activities. He gives you a clear path to passing. Pay attention. Do the required activities. Do the yellow pages, and you are set.
Doesn't explain material very well. Had to basically learn everything myself. Good thing about his class is that he lets you redo all papers until you get a perfect score. Homework is online and easy to get those points. Can retake tests one time but they are tough. Be ready to devote a lot of your time to this class.. Don't buy book!
Took ECO211 online and passed with an A. Required activities and quizzes are taken online from home and the exams are on campus. I asked him 1 question all semester, so I can't really say wether he's helpful or not. I would take him again.
Only online. Never met him. Do the HW & practice quizzes and you should ace this class. No papers. I slacked off & did everything in the last 2 weeks of school. Don't do that unless you really live & breathe economics. You can get ahead of this class really easy. His face to face classes sound harder.
Econ is a tough class, but Healy breaks it down into manageable pieces. All the papers have very clear instructions on what he wants and you can rewrite them as many times as you want if you turn them in on time. There is extra credit on every test and one test retake. His lectures are great and he clearly knows his stuff. Would recommend to anyone
Not helpful & constantly blames students even if over half the class got an answer wrong. You have time to teach yourself by watching like 3 or more hours of online vids & read the textbook, he doesnt believe in actually lecturing. Half way through more than half the class dropped, exams are hard, even the retakes. AVOID him.
Mark is one of the best instructors at Harper. His lectures are wonderful, he's clear, organized and is always there to answer questions. You will get an A if you do exactly what he tells you to do. Watch the videos, read the book and complete the yellow pages. Great teacher!!! I would take him again and again.
Professor Healy saved my semester. He gives out his cell phone number in class. A close friend of mine killed himself, and I was really depressed. He let me finish all the tests and homework at my own pace over the next few months, even after the semester had ended. The course itself was challenging, and the YouTube videos are great. I got an A!
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR! He is clear in his requests, gives quick and helpful feedback and more importantly HE SAVES STUDENTS MONEY BY PUTTING ALL THE MATERIAL ON BLACKBOARD AND NOT MAKE THEM BUY AN ACCESS CODE TO A WEBSITE TO GET YOUR ASSIGNMENTS DONE! This is a teacher who will help students get good results if they put in the work!
He doesn't help at all. I practically sat during last semester just listening to him speak. You have to lecture yourself. Expects you to know everything, and tries to be funny. I felt like I wasted my time and money in his class. Highly recommend to avoid him. Unless you want to make your life miserable.
Worst teacher I ever had. I won't be taking classes with him anymore. All he talks is about skiing which I don't care. Very tough at grading papers. He is not there to help you. Please avoid him. And don't buy the textbook. You don't need it.
I took his online class and got an A but it was NOT AN EASY A. He gives you a lot of material to study and it takes a lot of time to get through everything (20 hours a week or more): lectures, videos, homework. He always response quickly through to emails and blackboard. If you are lazy please do not take his class. Tests are HARD!
Students are expected to teach them self. He reviews and answers questions during class. Book and attendance help but not needed. Take ONLY if you can teach yourself and study! only tough grading on essays.
Good Teacher, good natured and willing to work with you if you talk to him. You do need to do some independent study, but if you do, watch the videos and do the review packets it's a breeze. He is critical on essays and focuses a lot on your understanding of the concepts, do a few drafts and you should be good. I enjoyed his personality and humor.
I knew ECO211 would be tough and was ready to study hard. This professor made it incredibly hard to want to come to class and consistently complained that students did not try/understand material. Not friendly or approachable in any way. Poor time in class every time I went (which was everyday because of the material itself).
Take him. He very easy. You only have to four paper which you can rewrite an unlimited amount of times.
Mark does not like people who just want an easy A. This is a fairly difficult class but the essays you can rewrite unlimited times and for each exam there is a retake if you do specific activities. I thought he was very approachable and wanted you to succeed. He made the class enjoyable with his personality and likes students who show interest!
I don't see why Mr. H has such a low rating. If you do the work you will get an A. I'm getting a B because I messed up because of personal reasons.
I did not like this teacher at all. I took microeconomics the semester before, got a B and absolutely loved it! I was expecting the same but Healy made it very hard for me to want to come to class. Prepare to teach yourself because he does not know how to explain the concepts thoroughly. Many people would fail his tests.
I was expecting to love this class... boy was I wrong. His teaching style is very hard. More than half of the class failed the exams and he found a way to blame the students. He makes you buy online lectures from another teacher and you must understand them completely for the each class. What is the point of paying him money if he can't teach it?
I understand why Mark gets bad reviews. He does make you work for an A. I took him for 211 and got a B because I was lazy. Mark gives you all the resources you need for an A. And, he is a rather interesting person outside class and is the reason I am an economics major now. If you work and don't slack off and retake the tests, an A is achievable.
I took his online Microeconomics class this summer. I received an A but it definitely was not a easy. HOWEVER, he gives you everything you need to receive an A. Test are definatly more on the hard side but if you know what you're doing you will be fine. I ended up with an 88 in the class but with the curve I received an A. Would take him again.
I got an A , but it was so hard to get an A.
It is very hard to get A in this course if you are lazy. I struggle a lot to have it, so will you. A lot of materials to study, analyze and systemize.
First week in class and I thought he was a lunatic. Throughout the semester, he was a great instructor. 100% would recommend for anyone taking Macroeconomics. Get ready for a full plate of work though.
The structure of the class is set so that you do all the work to learn the material at home and go to class and review. If you do not ask questions he will not know how to help you. Mark is a great instructor who is willing to help you. Do the work and get ahead!
Mark healy is definitely average. Doesn't suck, but doesn't rock. Could there have been a better eco teacher? yes. Could there have been worse? yes. everything you get graded for is online besides 4 papers and exams in class. Never checks attendance. Do the pre-quizzes, the required activities, the papers, and study thoroughly & you'll be okay
Mark is a great guy but is very boring to listen too. He can be funny at times but his layout for the course was difficult to follow. If you are never absent and you follow and write good notes you could definitely pass with a C or higher but anything less and it is difficult to pass. His papers are terrible too.
Mark is honestly a very knowledgeable teacher. I took Macro-economics before taking Micro! MISTAKE! Take micro first it will help you for Macro. He doesn't require attendance but I highly recommend it because the formulas and topics covered will be on the exams. Exams make or break you! Extra credit ONLY on exams. An A is possible with hard work.
Professor Healy is a funny, down to earth guy. His class has very clear grading and lesson organization that makes it easy to follow. The concepts aren't too hard, its mostly memorizing some formulas. The tests aren't too hard either, which make up a majority of the grade. He's really lenient on late papers too, which is nice for a procrastinator.
Mark is an amazing professor. Lots of Material but its all very helpful. i used the textbook but many of my class fellows did not. Easily accessible and will help you whenever you get stuck somewhere. Lets his students rewrite papers and retake exams.
Mark is honestly the least approachable instructor I've ever had. Every question or email I had for him was met with intense sarcasm and disgust. Makes you buy 3 different things for the class and teaches economics in such a confusing manner. He's a very smart man just not a great teacher. Avoid taking if econ isn't your thing
I took him a second time thinking that I understood how the class and tests operates. It was a major mistake. I've taken both micro and macro with him. On the plus side you will truly understand economics as he is very knowledgeable but I would only take him if your majoring in economics. A letter grade of B is an A in his class. VERY HARD TO PASS!
Awful! I took his microecon class online and the assignment he gave us to learn were so much easier than anything on the tests. You have to answer 20 questions in order to earn 2 point of credit toward your grade for every section! DON'T TAKE HIM!
If you do not like reading like I am, do not take this class. There are so many readings you need to do outside of class. Make sure you do all of the required materials. It is not an easy A class. You will work for it. If you get a high B, you might end up with an A. If you get a high C, you might also end up with a B. Don't panic, show up to learn
I took Healy over the summer as an online class. We had a couple of quizzes and 3 tests + a final. This is the most amazing online professor because not only did he provide all materials we need to succeed but he answered emails/questions in a matter of a minute. He also watches you when you take tests through a lockdown browser or go on campus.
Simply put, he is a solid teacher. He goes above and beyond with everything you need to know in order to be successful. I have never seen a professor be more detailed in my life. He makes lectures personable and interactive. The negative reviews do not do him justice. There is no excuse not to do well. He likes to joke around and makes class fun.
The structure of the Blackboard may be very confusing at first, but then you will easily get the hang of it. You'll find all the stuff online , and lets you re-do papers many times. Just study, especially for the third exam. Very good teacher, talks about skiing a lot but it's funny.
This is basically an honors level course so it is VERY tough. I always get the grade that I want but this class was extremely hard so it was impossible for me to get an A. He responds email. You do not need a book or buy the videos only because there is insane amount of material online. So, it is absolutely not necessary. Anyways, HARD course
This teacher has made econ so much better. He's kinda kooky in a cute way and very entertaining. Sometimes over explains things to make sure everyone understands but i really appreciated that. Really cares about his students doing well in the class. The class material is kind of hard but he does a really amazing job of teaching it.
Horrible professor. Made attendance mandatory and spent only 10% of the class period teaching the content, and 90% just telling us personal stories with no relevance. HORRENDOUS time management. Day before our final exam he began a WHOLE NEW UNIT and tried to speed through it. Never finished the unit, and still made us take the exam.
Healy's class was disorganized, with more time spent on irrelevant personal stories than actual content. Struggled to finish the curriculum before the final exam. unstuckstudy helped prepare me.
