good prof, really knows what he is talking about, interesting guy, funny and very helpful
good prof
Great prof, made taking this course very interesting through his lectures, and was very helpful when asked questions about the course.
Great prof. Friendly, approachable. Can really tell he'd be super interactive with a smaller class size. Funny, makes lectures interesting! Course covers a lot so there's lots of reading and studying to it, but it's a good course with a great prof. :) Highly recommend!
Such an awkward person!!! His notes are a little too wordy as well. Talks a lot about irrelevant things. I relied on Rick Healey's online slides. I haven't approached him for extra help but I have no doubt he would be very willing to do so. Seems like a very nice guy.
Intro to Psyc is infamous for being a dry course that is not overly enjoyable, but I found that Dr. Hebert was great for making the content interesting and understandable. He is easy to understand, and a fun prof. His tests are a bit of a challenge, but not too bad. He's definitely one of the better psyc profs.
Dr. Hebert is a very nice man who is good at explaining the course material. I would recommend him to anyone. He is very personable and approachable.
Would recommend to anyone.
Mark is amazing! I took Psych 1000 with him and he is very fun in class. He explains everything very clearly and he plays videos during class which keeps it from being too boring. If you study, you will do great on the tests because they go hand in hand with his notes. I ended up with a 92 in his class and I'm gonna continue psychology with him!
great professor, very clear and can be funny
Great professor :)I would recommend!
Excellent prof, covers material thoroughly and is engaging. Notes include references that explain with examples to provide clear understanding of subject matter. Would highly recommend for PSYCH 1000.
A great prof. Dr. Hebert is knowledgeable, funny, very patient, and a sweet person. He makes going to class enjoyable just to be around him. I would say attending class is not mandatory since you can get everything out of the textbook but it's worth it to go to clarify. An easy A if you know how to study for a multiple choice exam.
Dr. Hebert is a great professor, his notes are very detailed, he gives lots of examples and keeps the class interesting, and the exams are really easy! The only downfall is his rudeness towards some students when asking questions, sometimes I feel he makes them look stupid. Great prof overall though!
Very clear, detailed notes. Expectations are also very clear. Great sense of humor & knows how to make the class engaging whenever possible. Strictly multiple choice (2 tests worth 25% each & 1 final worth 50%) But took forever to answer emails.
Loved Dr. Hebert! I took him for Psych 1000 and had to take him for 1001. His lectures were easy to listen to and oftentimes funny, used a lot of examples which helped & had a lot of experience. Very sweet man.. dropped one of the class midterms in Psych 1000 if we did better on the final!
Mark Hebert is one of the best profs I have ever had. Intro psych courses are known for being dull, but Hebert makes them interesting. He is a very funny man! His lectures are worth attending, because they're not only enjoyable, but they also give you a clear idea of what to expect on exams. Study lecture notes and powerpoints, and you'll do fine.
I took this course as an elective, and I'm not a psychology or science person at all and LOVED it. Mark Hebert was super nice and funny and was an overall amazing prof! His slides are super helpful and as long as you read the book as well you'll do great! Would recommend Mark to anyone! Never thought I'd love a psych class as much as I did his!
I love Dr. Hebert! He's so nice and hilarious. He's a pretty easy grader if you study and remember the terms. His lectures are interesting, sometimes long, but otherwise, he is a great professor. He's also super funny and understanding.
Extremely nice guy, explains everything in a very clear way. the material in the course is very dry but he does his best to keep you awake with videos and little jokes. Tests aren't hard and his notes are basically a summary of the important parts of the textbook.
Hebert is a quality prof. He follows the text book spot on and includes a bit extra, like videos and even some off topic (but not really) funny stories. 1010 would recommend.
He made all the content super clear and provides all the information you'll need in his slides making it easy to study for tests. I liked going to class because he always had the funniest stories which helped me rememberthe things he was teaching . Enjoyed the class so much that I'm taking another Psych class with him next semester.
He is a very nice man, but I found the class very boring. It was very difficult to concentrate in a lecture hall with 300 people. All he does is talk, read off the slides, and doesn't stop at any point to ask questions or let you ask questions. Don't buy the text, it's a waste. You are marked 25% Test 1, 25% Test 2, 50% Final. Wouldn't recommend.
Professor Hebert is very clear on the material that you will need to study. Lectures can be a little long but that's more due to the dryness of the material than his actual lectures. He tries to make them more interesting with videospersonal stories. Very nice man. Study the text and power points and you'll do well. Would take again.
LOVE Dr. Hebert! He is definitely the best professor I've had this term, so I'm taking psych 1001 with him next term. Test are easy if you study and lectures are hilarious. Dr. Hebert makes what is an infamously dry course a fun and interesting course. Would reconnect to anyone!
He was an overall good professor. He put all of his lectures online, by that I mean he recorded them and put the power points up. If you miss a class it's not a big deal, but he does show videos of things in class and he will ask questions about it on the mid terms. But the tests aren't hard for what is a study subject.
I personally hated his class. He is very dry and all around boring. Barely went to class because I couldn't sit there for 75 minutes listening to him talk non stop. Did not stop to allow students to ask questions and reads everything directly off slides, which he posts online along with lecture capture. Only 2 midterms (25% each) and the final 50%
Amazing prof. If you want to do well, attend all lectures and print off slideshow material for each lecture. Lectures can be a tad boring, but he keeps the class interested. Two midterms and a final exam. Requires lots of study, especially for the final exam (worth 50% and tested on all 30 modules).
Lectures are long with lots of material to cover but he tries to encorporate humour to keep everyone interested. Two midterms each testing 10 modules and one final that tests all 30. Textbook isn't necessary, his slideshows cover everything in good detail and are posted on d2l. Must be willing to study lots for exams.
Loved him! I will be taking psych 1001 just because he is teaching it. Long lectures but he makes enjoyable. You don't necessarily need to go to class because he adds the slideshows and the video lectures on D2L and his tests are pretty straight forward.
Mark Hebert is a amazing professor!! He is very funny and is a fair grader. Loved his class so much that I'm taking his 1001 course this term. Would recommend to anyone!
One of the rudest professors I've ever met. He's not helpful at all if you go to his office. The course is extremely easy but if it's possible to do it with anyone else you definitely should.
Average prof. Has moments where he can be very funny and does try to show a lot of videos to make things a bit more interesting but sometimes his lectures can be very long. Tests are fair and I would recommend to anyone that has to go through Psych 10001001
He's a pretty nice guy, but not exactly the most helpful. He provided power point slides but they were very strongly based on the text book. Most students stopped showing up to class within the first few weeks. However, the tests were fair and not hard if you spent time on the material. Also very funny and has a story for every topic
Mr. Herbert is awesome. His slides for class are great, you can tell he put the work into what he lectures. He's so rehearsed in his material he can practically teach with no reference. If you listen in class (its university people go to class) you will see h explains and summarizes and re-summarize every point so well. He can be funny at times!
Super nice and puts lectures online! Really interesting course :)
Never went to one class all semester and got a 90 in the course. I only went for the midterms. He puts all his notes online and also records each lecture and also posts those. You don't even need to watch them though - just read the slides - he tests exactly on those. He is super fair, no super hard questions. The book is good too if you want more.
The best Prof. I ever had. I had him for Psyc 10001001. He jokes around and makes even boring topics interesting. Made me want to major in Psychology. The only course work is the 2 midterms and final exam. I passes his 2 courses with a 91 and 97.
Had Mark for both Psych 1000 and Psych 2800 (Drugs and behaviour). Loved having him for 2800, he was very approachable and his tests were exactly what I had expected. He tries to make his lectures funny. By far the best prof I've had at MUN. Don't bother to buy the book, simply go to class and read the notes and this course is an easy A!
He was a really funny guy so I enjoyed his lectures. All of the notes/slides were accessible online so he was very helpful in that regard. Tests were not too difficult (if you actually studied). The course was very straightforward and pretty interesting so I definitely recommend taking Psych 1000 with Mark Hebert
Hebert is one of my favorite profs of all time. He makes psych so much fun and he posts all his lectures online, but you'll want to go to class because he makes your day so much better.
Awesome prof! I found that if you went to class and read the text you would be fine. He is helpful and he make psychology fun to learn!
Probably one of the best profs at MUN! He will make you cry from laughter and actually understand Psychology. Will be taking 1001 with him next semester and can hardly wait!
By far my favourite prof at MUN! Really nice person and really fair tests. He's also hilarious which makes going to class enjoyable. Definitely recommend!!
Hebert is friendly, smart and an overall great teacher. He truly takes an interest in the courses he teaches and is very approachable out of class for extra help. His lectures are also interesting (if you decide to go/listen) and comprehensive. He also low key sells kittens under the table.
Mark is one of the kindest professors I've encountered. He is so sweet and gives every student his upmost respect. Lectures could get long at times, but his funny stories and genuine love for the topic made it bearable.
He's a really nice guy but I found him very monotone and he often put me to sleep. All of his lectures were recorded so I hardly went to class and just watched the lectures from home. His texts and exams are all fair and all multiple choice. If you listen to his lectures, take good notes you'll be fine. I hardly ever used the textbook.
most people I know have adored him just as much as I did. He is flat out hilarious and although he posts his lectures online I loved going to class because he made my day every time. He explains every concept so clearly. He is super helpful and encouraging and gets genuinely excited for you when you do well. He's like the funny dad everyone loves!
Good guy, and definitely knows his stuff, but he covers a lot of material fast. every once in a while he cracks a joke and its HILARIOUS. pretty good prof.
Great prof, taking his 1001 next semester
One of the cutest human beings alive!! such a sweet man and very helpful but you don't need to attend class. Lectures are very boring and long and every powerpoint is posted online. All exam material comes straight from the power points, its a lot of material but study and you'll be fine!
I liked Mark as a professor, he was funny and made the dry Psychology material bearable to listen to. I didn't do well in this course, however.
Hebert is the funniest professor I've ever had! His lectures are full of puns, jokes and videos of his cats, you'll never be bored. He posts all his lectures and notes online which is a great if you get sick and can't make it to class. If you study the material well it's no trouble to get an A in his course! Best Professor ever!
Great prof!
Amazing Prof! Makes class fun by using easy examples and funny videos and pictures. Tests are very fair and he is a very approachable man. If you can definitely take a course with him!!
This course itself is painful. Mark tries to make it interesting by popping in some jokes and he uses a lot of examples which helps with understanding the material. He records all his lectures so you really do not need to go to class, except for to write the optional quizzes. There's chances for extra credit which I recommend! The final is rough.
One of the best profs I have had at MUN. His midterms are based almost entirely off of his own notes and not the book. You don't really need to go to class since notes are online and lectures are recorded but I went anyways for the scattered funny video or cat pictures. Great guy and a great prof. Overall an excellent choice.
Dr. H has done a great job organizing lectures to suit everyone. They are clear and to the point. If you didn't show up to class or buy the book you could still pass via online lectures. Hebert takes into consideration students time and money! He is an excellent professor who I hope to have again for 1001. Not dry, kinda funny and brilliant!
I have not one bad thing to say about this prof. Great lectures, exams are all multiple choice, and he has the cutest sense of humour which is always nice to lighten up the class. Will totally be taking Psyc 1001 with him next semester.
One of my favourite profs ever! Tests are super easy if you study the slides. It's not really necessary to go to class but I always did because I love his lectures. Cant wait to take Psych 1001 with him next semester!
LOVE Hebert!! He is so nice and does an excellent job teaching the course. As long as you study the slides you'll do fine. Def take psych with him if you can
Mark Hebert is every wonderful dream I ever had, personified as a Psychology professor. Just yesterday, I arrive at his home, and tell him how much I appreciate his funny and informative lectures. "How do you know where I live?" he replies. My Nordiques cap is now his. I held him and never let him go. God, I love Mark Hebert. Course is good too
Hebert is so funny and kind. He puts everything on D2L so attendance is not mandatory which is great. But he talks about his cat so you may want to go for that. As long as you review and study you're good. Would definitely recommend.
Mark Hebert is definitely one of my favourite profs ever. Super nice and posts all the notes online, but I still went to class since he makes it so enjoyable. Exams are more than fair as long as you actually study his powerpoints. If he's available MAKE SURE YOU GET IN HIS CLASS.
Posts lectures online as well as slideshows so attendance is not mandatory! As long as you study the slideshows and information in the book you will do well in his course. Tests are very straight forward, questions are expected. He is a funny prof who cracks jokes throughout class. Would definitely recommend him!
I have so many good things to say about Mark Hebert. He makes me look forward to going to class and made me realize what I want my major to be! Fascinating guy, fantastic teacher. Without a doubt I'll be taking all my psych courses from him.
love mark!! such a sweet man and i love the videos he shows of his cats lol. great sense of humour which makes it easier to listen, although i find the course very simple and intersting anyways. his tests are very fair if you just read his slideshows. i am registered to take psych1001 with him next semester!! def recommend
Hebert is a real gem, he's funny, tells lots of stories and loves to show videos to help us understand better, along with videos and pictures of his cats. I made my schedule revolve around him for psych 1001 because he's that great.
I was in the 75min lecture and it was too much info packed in. Didn't need to go to lecture, posts notes online with videos of the lectures. Heard from my friends who had him before me say if you don't go to class and you ask for help he refuses to help you. Not taking Psyc 1001 mainly because I don't need it but if I did I wouldn't choose Mark.
Very boring professor, nice guy but makes class incredibly dry and just reads the information off the slides. Not beneficial to attend, definitely would not take another course with him again.
Didn't go to class much because the notes were posted online but when I did go he made me laugh. Lectures were very long and he just reads off the slides and occasionally shows a fun video, but the course material wasn't very difficult so I had no problems. Mark is a really nice prof, i'll be taking 1001 with him next term!
Mark is a fabulous prof. I skipped many classes and still ended up with a 90 average. Some of the questions on the final were from the book which I didn't read but I still did well! I'm taking Psych1001 with him next semester and I am very excited.
Amazing prof! His exams take material pretty straight from the notes and his lectures are interesting! He has lecture capture too which is great to use if you ever miss a class! Would definitely recommend :)
Mark was a phenomenal prof, he made coming to class enjoyable and always makes his students laugh. Midterms/final were fairy easy if you read his slideshows.
Psych 2920 is not one of the more interesting courses, it's a pretty dry subject actually. But the prof isn't bad at all! He tries to make lectures interesting and doesn't do a bad job on that either. The optional quizzes, and the outside study participation does boost your mark, so do them!
Do not recommend, his class are very boring since he is mostly reading the slides.
Love him! One of my favourite profs at MUN. He makes it so easy to do well in his classes and lectures are always interesting and hilarious. Recommend :)
He is a great professor! The information can be a bit boring but he tells a lot of funny jokes and stories which makes in more enjoyable! He records the classes and posts them online along with the powerpoints so attendance isn't necessary. His exams are always very fair and if you study his notes and read the book they will be simple.
This semester is my second time taking a course with Hebert and I still love him, he'll probably always be one of my favourite profs. He's hilarious and loves showing videos to help everyone understand better and his cats and telling stories. Everything that is done in class is posted online. There's two tests worth 25% each and a 50% final.
This is my second semester taking Mark Hebert and I adore him. He's an awesome prof and his exams are very fair if you study everything in the power points! Cannot recommend enough :)
Had Psyc 1000 and Psyc 2920 with Mark. Easily my favorite psyc prof at MUN. Although many topics can be dry and boring, he does an awesome job and keeping your attention. He offers many opportunities to receive extra credit - clicker questions, PREP studies and short quizzes. Quizzes decreased the weight of my final to 20%! :)
This was my second semester with him and I can't wait to take more psych courses with him! He made the dry introductory material interesting ,he is so funny and tells stories about his cats and research experience! There are 2 midterms and the final which are all mc and also straight forward if you study the powerpoint slides, take him if you can:)
I love hearing stories about his cat. His dad humour makes the course much more interesting. I received an A with him, solely off of taking notes from what he said and studying his powerpoints. Would highly recommend!
One of the best Profs I've had at MUN. Great jokes and very fair exams. I look forward to taking more psychology courses with him.
I really liked this prof. He's funny and nice. He posts his powerpoint slides online, which is great if you miss a class.
Taking psych 1000 for the second time for a higher grade but this is the first time I've had Mark as a prof. I enjoyed the course so much better this time around. He makes the dry material so much more interesting and puts in a few jokes as often as he can. Tests are fair. Read his slides and you should be good
Really funny guy, and posts his slides and class lectures on D2L. You really don't need to go to class to pass. I haven't opened my text book yet this semester (only studied the slides) and still got really good grades in his class.
He records his lectures so basically you can stay in bed and watch him teach your class, he gives 2 midterms and one final dats it, he don't care if you show up or not, you can email him and he will answer within a day, all his tests are multiple choice.
Mark is an excellent professor for psychology. He is very fair and respectful. He does a thorough job teaching the material using humour, personal stories, and well-organized notes. If you show up to class, read along in the textbook, and devote enough time to studying, you should have no problem passing this course with a high grade.
By far the best professor i have had at memorial. Gives just 2 midterms and a final all multiple choice and gives PREP, or tophat questions/weekly quizzes for extra credit! Records all lectures and posts them online so attendance isn't mandatory and you don't have to stress if you miss a class! Will definitely take again!
mark is by far my favourite prof at mun, he makes his lectures so interesting and always includes videos and pictures from his life to try and get us to know him better. he also posts all his notes online, as well as live video recordings of class so there really isn't a need to even go to class everything is posted online.
Truly the best prof at MUN! He is well organized and teaches the course content very clearly. He is also a prof that will help you one on one if you don't understand the course. One of the only caring and kind profs at MUN, and also very funny! His lectures will have you in the knots laughing. 2 midterms and one final!
He is an average lecture prof who reads off slides. I personally find that assignments help me understand the material, but he only does two midterms and a heavy final. Would not recommend him to anyone who struggles with multiple choice!
Definitely the best prof I've had so far. Doesn't use the textbook in class but you should skim over it when studying! He's really enthusiastic about what he's teaching and makes it interesting. He sneaks some cat videos/pics into his slideshows which is a plus.
You dont need to show up to his class in order to pass, he posts the notes and lecture videos on d2l. There was only 2 midterms which are all multiple choice and a final with all multiple choice. Would have rathered more assignments for a grade booster, but overall an okay prof.
I loved Dr. Hebert! He was AMAZING. He was very easy to reach outside of class and he hinted on heavily to what was gonna be on tests. Considering we were sat in the lecture hall for 50 minutes he made it very enjoyable. He always made jokes within his powerpoints to lighten the mood and make students comfortable and not bored. Would 100% retake.
Hilarious prof that tried to make the course interesting with stories about his cats and his research experience. Course consists of 2 midterms which were a bit hard and questions were worded weirdly and a final. I would take his class again.
Hebert is awesome! Hilarious prof that makes dry material fun and easy to remember. Two 25% tests and a 50% midterm so he doesn't give homework. Not much of a need for a textbook as he only tests on what he puts on his slides (which he posts all of them online and uses LectureCapture). Highly recommended!
Dr. Hebert is a solid choice for a psychology professor. He makes his lectures interesting and easily available outside of class on D2L. His tests are long but are usually clear and easy to understand. Overall, cares about his students and will do what he can to make a good grade attainable, while keeping the course interesting.
regular psych class. Gets harder towards the end. Awesome prof. Offers a ton of extra mark opportunities, take advantage of these whilst studying a bit, you can definitely get an A.
AMAZING prof. Didn't have to open the textbook. Entertaining lectures.
Nice prof
Mark is funny, engaging, and really cares for his students. He is willing to help any students after class or during office hours. He makes psych 1000/1001 a breeze. Notes are posted online, study them and you will get a good grade.
all slides and lectures are uploaded online
Good Prof, explains everything well. Has weird funny stories that relate to the topics being taught. Lectures aren't super boring and power points are good.
He records each class and posts the notes so you don't really have to go to class. I found his lectures to be pretty boring and his tests were really hard
Super interesting lectures! Great guy overall. Tests were all MC, and focused primarily on the topics he discussed in class. Go to class, skim the textbook and study the powerpoints and it's an easy A!
Dr. Hebert's lectures aren't the most interesting, but I highly recommend going as he says a lot of important things that aren't in the lecture notes that he posts online. I also highly recommend reading the text book for his courses. His tests can be difficult sometimes.
One of my favorite profs at MUN. In class quizzes can be used to decrease the worth of your final and in class questions can be answered to add bonus points to your grade. Also offers PREP studies for more bonus points. Tests were straightforward and he was clear about what he tested. Definitely dry material but it's impossible to not do well.
great prof, would take again liked to show pictures of his cat which was fantastic
very interesting lectures. Very funny and keeps people intrigued while he lectures. Would love to have him again.
Great Prof! Only 2 midterms and a final. I didn't use my textbook because all of the questions from the tests were based on the slideshows. Attendance wasn't mandatory because lecture captures and slideshows were posted. Makes the class interesting and funny by including videos and selfies of him and his cat. Recommend him to anyone.
Mark really tries to make his lectures interesting by throwing in videos and pictures as the course itself is really heavy, the tests are straight forward and come straight from the slides so you don't need to show up if you don't want to. He is really funny and genuinely cares about you doing well. Highly recommend taking him if you can!
I loved Dr. Hebert's class. I'm intentionally taking him again next semester and whenever I can in my psychology degree. His lectures are hilarious with little gems hidden within to make you laugh. Study the power-points and the book for this course but mostly the power-points!
Dry material but he tries to make it as interesting as possible and he can be funny. Offers optional clicker questions and weekly quizzes to lower the weight of your final exam. Material is not hard. Cant complain about his teaching, definitely recommend
Mark is a great prof. He uses good (sometimes funny) examples during his lectures so that It is easier to understand the concepts. Lectures can be dry at times but he does show videos to keep his lectures from just talking. If you're looking for a good psych prof, keep him in mind!
Such a sweet guy, makes his lectures interesting as he not only reads his slides but uses his own examples and is always goofy. Although, he posts all of his slides online and really the only time I used a textbook was for a few extra key terms or if I didn't understand something. If you don't go it's still an easy pass as long as you study!!
When the class average is just above 50% for a 2nd year PSYC course, you know somethings up. The class and content were fine, but the tests were brutal. Questions seemed purposely sadistic, as though he was constantly trying to make you second guess yourself and testing you on interpretation rather than psychology. Not really fair, in my opinion.
Mark was the sweetest prof I had this semester! He always makes funny jokes to connect the course material to so you remember things. Easy to get a great mark if you go to class and make notes from what he says as well as from the textbook, some things tested are not in the slideshows. All MC are directly from notes/textbook, nothing to trip you up
i enjoyed the class and he was very nice, however the lectures are very dry. He only ever does two midterms and a final worth 50 percent of your grade, so if you mess up one test it will really affect your grade. He gives you the chance to receive up to 2 percent extra credit, and all classes are recorded and put online with all the notes.
Mark Hebert is definitely one of the nicest profs I've ever had at MUN. His lectures are easy to understand and he has no trouble teaching initially confusing concepts.
I've had him as a prof twice now for psych and he is great. he teaches at a good pace and and the classes are overall enjoyable. all the information you need to know is within the slideshows, not many of the questions from the tests come from the textbook, if any.
One of the best profs I've had yet. I didn't go to a single class all semester and came out with an 86% because he posts videos of his lectures online. 10/10 would recommend.
Heard raving reviews from those who took his classes on campus, but I found him to be mediocre at teaching online. He wasn't online much/didn't post much. The easy assignments & extra credit quizzes were nice, but he never disclosed the format of the first midterm. Had no idea what to expect going in. Felt that midterm/exam MC weren't always clear
Super nice guy, lectures are a tad dry but he'll throw in some jokes. He basically reads the slides word for word and they're shared so if you're not up to going to class you'll be fine. You can get two extra credit points by participating in pysch experiments, and they're pretty easy. And you definitely do not need the textbook!
Does lecture capture. Review powerpoints and you should be fine.
Prof. Hebert was a very kind prof and although he knew his stuff I did find his lectures to be boring. I purchased the book but did not ever use it. He was hard to reach over email but all in all he was very caring and taught well.
Mark is a very great prof. I didn't show up to one lecture since he does lecture capture. Keeps content interesting and is not hard to listen to. Tests are very fair and post all of his stuff online. He also assigns no additional work like assignments or quizzes which is both good and bad. I would definitely take Dr. Hebert again.
Great teacher. Would definitely take again.
There only had 2 tests, those were all we were graded on, but they were only multiple choice and matching so if you know your stuff you should be okay. He was funny, showed lots of cute animals in the slides. There are times when is lectures get kind of monotone and dry but it's worth it to go to class as that's where most of the test material is.
I love love love Mark, and you will too if you like genuine and sweet people who tell dad jokes during lectures. If you know your terms and read the textbook, hes not a hard tester. He tries to make lectures as fun as he can with jokes in the slides and just ones he tells- which is greatly appreciated. His class was the highlight of my semester.
Posts slides up on D2L but I recommend you don't just print them off but use them to write your own notes in class and outside of class. Exams are fair game.
I took a stats course with Mark last term and honestly, if anyone could make me enjoy/do well at stats then they deserve all the props in the world!! I recommend showing up to class, studying the PowerPoints (which he very helpfully posts on D2L) and buying the app and studying for the quizzes! You can reduce your final exam weight to 20%! I did!
Great professor, had him for psyc1000 and took him again this semester for psyc1001. Very fair testing, and he makes the lectures funny and interesting
Literally the best prof at mun. such a smart funny guy who takes time to have fun with his lectures for sure. Had him for psych 2920 and he made it such a breeze. He only tests on the material in his slides and pretty much tells you what will he on exams to prepare. Also offers a crossword at the end for vocab. HES THE BEST!!!!
Mark is a great guy! He keeps his lectures light and funny to keep student entertained. His notes have all the information you need to pass the course, making extra reading unnecessary. Overall hes one of the best profs Ive had at MUN and I really enjoyed his lectures!
Mark is a great prof! Everything that he tests is on the slides that he posts online, so attendance is not mandatory. If you put in the work to learn the material it is easy to do well in the course! He is also a very nice guy.
We had two midterms and a final. They were fair and not overly difficult. He used lecture capture and posted all the slides online. The material is pretty dry, but he did his best to break up the lectures with short videos and anecdotes. He's pretty funny and chill, would recommend!
Amazing prof! Has great personal analogies and shares his love for turtle cheesecake with the rest of the class. Grades based on multiple choice tests and doesnt expect you to learn the textbook, testing based on his detailed slides. Would recommend!
Two 25% midterms and a final. All were pretty simple, and I would only study a few days before. He can be a little boring sometimes but also funny, will relate a lot of concepts to cats and maybe even play videos of his. Class was lecture captured and reading the notes suffices if you dont wanna go.
He is pretty good and the course is very chill because you will have two midterms,5-6 quiz, and a final but if your the type of person to depend on lectures..... he's lectures are extremely dry and he just read off the PowerPoint but if your looking for a chill professor then you've came to the right section :) also Nelson lowkey controls his mind
Mark had to be one of the most boring profs i have ever had. Completely monotone and somehow even his laughs are boring. But, i don't hate him! great guy and easy A. He's always happy, just doesn't know how to make his course cool or any bit interesting. Most people didn't go or just fell asleep while he was talking.
The lectures posted are very understanding and great to watch. The notes posted are helpful and clear. Watching the lectures help with the learning of the course. I plan on taking a class with Mark again!
I unknowingly hit a home run when I registered for Mark's class. I will def be taking his PSYC1001 class. Quizzes are clear as day. Term tests are actually fun to write because you know you'll do great. He includes comical stuff here and there in his power-points and lectures that leaves me chuckling in front of my computer constantly. A+!!!!!
Nice guy would definitely take his classes again. Easy lectures, low amounts of extra work. Pretty simple and straightforward.
Took psych 1000 with him online. His notes and lectures are very straight forward and he does a great job going over them. This course is a heavier study subject but there are no surprises on evaluations, his notes covers all. He can be dry sometimes but an overall sweet guy who cares for his students and tries his best to crack jokes.
I absolutely loved being in professor Heberts class every second. He keeps it interesting and fun but informational at the same time. He's so passionate about what he is teaching and it shows when he talks about it. Would definitely recommend 110%
his lectures were funny and he read off of the slides but provided more examples in class, was only graded on 3 tests so if you did bad on one, it would impact your grade
For the most part his lectures were very dry. But he is a very nice man who loves his cats and likes to crack jokes when he can. His lectures for the most part were reading the notes with a bit of extra insight, just be prepared because he shows videos and details of them will be on quizzes
i find his lectures pretty boring but a good teacher
Lectures are kinda boring, but if you sit through and take notes on his presentation slides, you can just go through those before exams and get a solid grade. His lectures are very good for understanding the material. He is very accessible outside class, but participation is virtually extinct. Also, Nelson changed my life.
I wrote a review for Mrak's PSYCH1000 class and I just HAD to write one for his PSYC1001 class as well. He's hilarious and his lectures and power-points are awesome. Midterm was a little harder than usual but quizzes are easy A's. Take Mark and you'll love psychology.
Great prof who gives clear instruction, includes good questions on tests that are easy to understand, and cares about student success. Just an all around great prof who makes core psychology courses easy to follow and less boring!
I took Michele Mercer for Psych1000 and never wanted to do psychology again. I decided to sign up for psych1001 with mark and he has changed my view entirely. Hes amazing, you only need to attend lectures or read power point and youll get an A! His cat Nelson is amazing and he always shows videos of him. Genuinely was excited to attend class.
Amazing prof and explains the material well! Reading the chapters helps as well. Best prof I've had and best online experience I've had! Nelson the cat definitely saves the day, especially during exam/life/covid stress. Love this prof! He's the best.
He is an excellent online professor and his lectures are very very interesting and his cat Nelson definitely adds flare to his lectures. we had quizzes for each chapter, 2 midterms, and a final, all of which were completely based on his given notes and lectures. if you watch the lectures then this course is an easy A with Mark.
This guy is the real deal for online learning. He's straightforward and organized. His lectures are well put together and contain all you need to know for the quizzes/tests. He explains the material well and has a dry yet hilarious sense of humor. Definitely my favorite professor thus far in terms of online learning.
He listens to his students' feedback. Had him last fall, and now his lectures were much more exciting, and more cats :). He's an incredible professor, lectures are very concise and clear, and his notes are all that you'll need. Responds to emails. Even his tests are hilarious, taking away from the seriousness. TAKE CLASSES WITH HIM AT ALL COSTS.
Great guy
Dr. Hebert is a great prof! He tends to go on tangents in his lectures, however he provides lots of interesting information and often features his cats (online lectures). His tests were always very fair and he is a very nice guy! Very minimal textbook use, could definitely get by without it even. His tests were based majorly on the notes.
Great prof, cares about his students and likes to crack a lot of jokes. One of my favourite profs I've had. Study his notes and you're going to be fine!
Absolute 10/10. You can tell he's really passionate about what he teaches and just wants his students to do well. Super accommodative. Plus, Nelson the cat is a cute bonus. Never take anyone but him for psych!
Great prof. Very understanding.
He's a great prof really. If you can't understand something, no matter how small it is he'll always try to make it clear. Very understanding- always listens to his students like requests for postponing quizzes and emails. Have to warn you though! he's very heavy on tests, but that's for our own good as Psych can't be passed overnight.
Mark Hebert is my favourite prof, he is amazing and cares about his students so much. He really makes the lectures interesting especially when he knows it is a boring topic. His quizzes and exams are also fair, just mostly application of your knowledge. Love him so m much, amazing teacher
I did Psych 1000 with Prof. Hebert online and he kept mind of how long his videos were, cracked jokes when he could and was easy to get along with. The subject matter he teaches is clear and he is passionate about it. 10/10
Awesome guy, great lectures
I had prof Hebert when classes were delivered remotely, I was assigned a specific time slot but he would only use this time for tests (he pre recorded his lectures and posts them on D2L). I found at times his lectures were a little dry but he really tries to make the course as interesting as it can be. Tests/Quizzes were very straightforward.
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. Funny, easy-going, and really nice.
Best Prof I had this semester. Great lectures, so funny and caring. You can tell he loves what he does. Very understanding about extensions. I am taking him again next semester. I highly recommend.
Dr. Herbert was a pretty good prof. The final and midterms are worth a lot and he gives weekly quizzes. Pay attention during his lectures because he will often test on things he said in class that may not actually be in the textbook. Reading the textbook before each chapter quiz is a must!
Done this course remotely and enjoyed it overall. Found that lectures were a little dry but he would often add something to make it more enjoyable. There were 7 quizzes, 2 tests, and a final exam, all of which were multiple choice and came straight from his lectures.
Hes funny. The course was hard definitely have to study but was enjoyable
Mark was definitely an interesting man, very funny. His lectures were boring, usually. A lot of the quizzes (weekly) did not have information that was on the slides. Overall tho seems like a solid dude. Shoutout to his cat nelson<3
I feel like he is a bit overrated, may be because I only got pre-recorded lectures of his and no in-person class. In the recorded videos he barely speaks a complete proper sentence (most probably due to camera nervousness?); so the lectures are less resourceful and tough to follow. Anyway, the positive reviews about him in this website are true.
Really funny, great lectures and notes.
Mark is one of the best professors I’ve ever had. He’s hilarious, makes learning fun and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend taking him if you can.
Had a positive experience with Mark multiple times. One thing I love is this semester he gave opportunity for alternate weighting of the midterms and quizzes, by participating in a peer evaluated "group chat" every week or two. Was super easy to get 100 in if the effort and engagement was there, and is worth 20% of your grade if you opt in for it!
Enjoyed the layout for the course, and the option given for extra credit. Final was definitely based heavily on textbook material that was not covered in the notes, but besides that, I had no issues with Mark.
Gotta love Hebert, one of the best professors at MUN!
Hebert was such an accommodating prof, while unfortunately this was an online course with no lectures I found he was pretty quick with email replies. However since there was no actual lectures this course was EXTREMELY textbook heavy and you might not pass without it. BUT he did give a lot of opportunities to do well and boost your grade.
good guy, but lectures were kind of boring. i struggled with the quizzes, a lot of information was not on the slides.
Dr. Hebert gives opportunities outside of exams to get your grade up. This course was very independent but he was accommodating and his questions were never difficult.
I've done courses with Dr. Hebert before and they were way better than this one. The questions on these exams could be very vague and difficult to understand. Not being given a word bank for fill-in-the-blanks is very difficult. I expected to do better in this course than I did. I would still take more courses with him though.
Really nice guy, straightforward material and evaluations. Would definitely take again.
He is the best instructor I've had at MUN in my four years. I also had him for psyc1000/1001 as well. He is very engaged in his lectures and makes psychology/neuroscience as someone who initially disliked it. His slides are coherent, and quizzes/tests are fair. There are three bonus marks in the course.
Dr. Hebert was a great person, he was very funny and used engaging humor during his lectures. The only thing is there wasn't much to be graded on so it made it difficult to have a good GPA. Also there was so much information but on the exams there was very vague questions that didn't have a clear right answer.
Dr. Hebert didn't post much but didn't really need to as the whole course was laid out for us from day one. Two grading paths, I chose my grade to be solely based on exams, and it worked out. Easy midterms and extremely easy final. Bonus marks for PREP study. Overall, would recommend. Most test information came from the textbook.
Prof Hebert makes the class engaging with his humor. Easy exams, plus bonus marks for PREP study and a group chat option that's worth 20% - Unstuckstudy is super helpful for acing this course.
Amazing prof
Dr. Hebert is a very organized professor. There are weekly exams which have 48hrs to be completed. The textbook is very useful since the course presentations mirror the content in the textbook. You can also do a PREP study to get bonus marks in the course.
Mark is very charismatic and makes lectures interesting, no matter the topic! It's clear that he cares about his students, for example when we had a snow day and MUN said they'd update at 12:00, he moved our 2:00 exam so students wouldn't have to come out in the snowy conditions. My only complaint is weighs; 30%midterm30%midterm40%final
Mark is a great prof, and clearly cares about his students' success. The reason for my 4/5 is due to 2 factors 1) The weighting is harsh with 100% of your grade coming from exams, he used to have extra marks but it seems like that's changed 2) exams are fairly easy, but i found there wasn't a clear answer, i felt it could have been multiple.
hes awesome and a silly goose tbh. giggled quite a bit.
Never thought I would enjoy a test only grading system but Mark made it more then easy for achieving a good grade
Made the course almost impossible to pass. Final grad is based on two midterms and a final, thats IT. Zero opportunities to learn, its almost like he wants everyone to fail. Absolutely would never take this ridiculousness again
Mark is a great person, and a really kind prof. However, I don't find classes effective. For starters, our final grade comes from 3 things; 2 midterms, and a final. Because of this, we don't even get to learn from our mistakes, especially how we don't even get exams back. I find during class he talks at a very fast pace, making it difficult.
Mark is overall a good prof but, I find he tends to talk to fast in his lectures and hard to understand at times. With the course being just 2 midterms and a final it is important to attend all lectures, and even though he tends to talk fast if you attend his class you should come out with a decent grade.
Mark is an amazing prof, his lectures are great; however, with the course only having 2 midterms and a final, it can be really hard to come out with a good grade, but all test questions are very reasonable.
Mark is one of the best profs I've had at MUN. He is hilarious, kind and caring towards his students and teaches material in a comprehensible and effective way so that you always know what you need. Very clear grading and exams were more than fair: Could not recommend this prof more.
Mark is a decent prof, but don't let the 5 star reviews fool you. Final grade only comes from exams, however, if you study it isn't hard to pass. His responses to emails are rude and unprofessional, and he explains the material at a very fast pace. Would recommend, depending on other teachers offering their course.
Dr. Hebert is a very average professor. His slides are average, but hard to read. His explanations are good but he talks quick.Trying to get ahold of him is difficult, he either won't answer, or will say something very passive aggressive. If you're taking this course as an elective I wouldn't recommend, unless you want your GPA to sink.
He was a good prof, and explained concepts well, however when it came time for midterms and the final I struggled. All of his multiple choice were situational questions so you really had to understand the concepts and not just know the term and defintions as given on the slides. I enjoyed this course, however I found he rushed through slides
Awesome guy, midterms and exams were pretty easy if you went to class. If you didn't go to class that was okay too bc his slides had a sufficient amount of detail (never purchased the textbook). He always told stories that made things easier to remember and often times you would find a similar multiple choice q to a story he told in lecture.
I really like Mark as a prof, and I enjoy his lectures a lot. Only thing that sucks is the 2 midterms are worth 30% and the final is 40%, and thats all your graded on (other then PREP). But his material is straight forward and easy to follow.
I enjoyed marks lectures a lot. He made sure to include fun aspects as well as little short videos. marks seems like a kind person. I would definitely take a course with him again!
One of the best courses I've attended. He really knows what he's teaching, and he's very considerate regarding course grading.
Dr. Hebert is a great prof. His midterms are pretty fair but there is a lot of content covered. High notes are well-organized. Attending the lectures is highly recommended, as he gives personal anecdotes and other bits of information that are quite helpful. He's quite accessible by email. He's also hilarious and loves to tell stories :)
Dr. Hebert is an amazing professor - by far my favourite so far at MUN. Knows what he's talking about, has lots of funny stories that keep a content-heavy course from becoming boring, and is just a really friendly guy. Course grade was solely based on two midterms and a final with most of the questions being applications ideas from the course.
Makes learning so enjoyable! The best!
