Loved him, great class...definately worth taking with Henn!

Henn rocked, his lectures were very interesting, full of real life examples, and he's very enthusiastic about the material. I couldn't lose focus during his lectures if I tried.
Not clear
Very enthusiastic prof.
I had Dr. Henn for both 401 and 521 and he was an awesome professor. Very animated and excitable, which always made class interesting, he was also very thorough, even with an intro class like 401. He's got a peculiar grading system, but is always fair.
Very enthusiastic and interesting. Henn is a nice man but teamed up with Benassi for 444, I was put to sleep...

AWFUL CLASS DONT TAKE IT
Awesome prof. His lectures are really interesting, exams are kinda tough, but all you really need to do is read the material to get an A. Definitely take this class.
awful class awful prof
dont take it

this guy is very unclear, his lectures are pretty worthless, all he does is test on the textbook.
Awesome prof. Best one i ever had! Definitely take this class!!
BADDDDDD teacher... talks tooooo much about his family... teachs nothing related to the class and his test are ridiculous... his class is dumb and i LOVE psych. he's just a bad teacher... stay away from his class!!!
doesn't teach!!!
The book he assigns is soooo hard to understand and is way too long. Henn just talks the whole time about nothing really. I baisically taught myself everything via the book. The tests are hard too.

Bounces around from subject to subject like a confused ape
Excellent class. Excellent Professor. Occasionally disorganized but fun and interesting.
Mark Henn is the man. He is funny and interesting, and just does a really great job overall. He has great scales on his exams, and that's always a plus too. He just made Intro. to Psyc. a really interesting and intellectually rewarding experience.
He keeps it interesting. Ask about the ghost he created.
This man is reallly nice and he is easy to talk to about everything and is available for office hours. Yeh his tests arent the easiest but they are weighted so its not hard to get a B or an A, u just have to outline each chapter and use the review book...so if ur up for that take the class and im sure youll get an A!
Very enthusiastic, clear, good teacher. Kept class interesting.
Enthusiastic, but tells too many stories during class. He barely teaches the material and expects you to know everything. Test are hard but curved. I would try to get another teacher if possible.
exteremely unclear, goes off on unrelated tangents, tests are ridiculous.
Unclear and not willing to help you improve your grade.
Nice guy, bad teacher. Tests are extremely difficult and cover obscure details and facts from the readings. Lectures are completely unrelated to book.
Could be such an amazing class, but I would rather go to the library and read the text then go to his class. He is very unclear in his teaching and goes all over the place.
Completely Disorganized and flaky - but nice guy
Simply, if you have another 500 level course you can take..DO IT!! or take another teacher. He is awful, I don't know how I got through class with out putting a bullet in my head! Students interest in class is shown through the very low attendance.
Brilliant. Interesting and informative lectures and actually bothers to make it intellectually challenging - which is probably why there's some complaints! Intro. to Psyc. was excellent and highly recommend the 444 unit Scientific Perspectives on Belief in Alleged Paranormal Phenomena.
All over the place as a teacher. Very hard to understand, confuses what is clear material with lectures about nothing. Very disorganized. Has the most ridiculous grading system.
this class is boring and useless.... a complete waste of time and money
The more you keep up with the reading the more interesting his lectures will be.If you're lazy and don't like to read textbooks then this class isn't for you.Henn puts the work on the student and academically enriches you based on your effort. There's a strong correlation between effort and interest in the material, as there should be with any cla
Behavior Analysis was great with Mark Henn. At first I thought he was going to be a rough prof. but I really enjoyed his class, he is super helpful and very friendly. He really wants all his students to do well, if you are having problems he is wiling ot work with you, but you have to communicate that with him!
Psych551 was challenging, interesting and all due to Prof. Henn. As others said, it's about making the effort and communicating and you'll get a lot out of this class. I'm now considering changing my research focus after class discussions, which is saying something. Quite inspirational and an intellectual challenge, so do check out his classes.
Behaviorism: Attendance isn't mandatory but you will get so much out of it if you attend. He keeps the class interesting and you learn a lot that applied to everyday life.
He is a very random teacher- goes off on tangents and is very hard to follow sometimes, but was never uninteresting. He changed my views on a lot of things and was a very nice person. I went to see him during his office hours a few times outside of class and he was very helpful, but you have to read to do well!!
Awful Professor...he went on tangents that were irrelevant to class material. The exams were also very difficult.
The tests were difficult but as long as you did the reading and went to class, they were not that bad (don't get behind on the reading). Henn is VERY nice and approachable. He sometimes goes off on tangents but if you enjoy psychology this class will be a interesting. (he is also pretty attractive for an older guy ;) )
Henn is a nice man, but seriously his class is SO BORING. He goes off talking about random stuff and occasionally gets back to his powerpoints. His tests are so hard, and you definitely have to do the reading to do slightly well on his tests. You also have to do Sniffy the Rat assingments (virtual rat) and train him. Its very tedious...
Dr. Henn is extremely intelligent, easy going, and a nice guy. He does lose his focus and jump around while lecturing, but so what? Granted, he knows about it and can improve. I strongly suggest meeting him and getting to know him during office hours, he is really interesting and personable to talk to! Reading the text is absolutely necessary!
Very enthusiastic professor. His lectures can be somewhat unclear unless you have read the text. YOU MUST READ and UNDERSTAND what is in the book to do well on his exams. Take the class and put in some hard work, you will be glad you did.
Really easy class... as long as you read the books. He doesn't flunk anyone, the lowest grade is a D that you can get on a test, so even if you haven't studied take it. Attending class really isn't necessary as long gas you are willing to read the book. Pretty nice guy overall.
Prof. Henn gets an extremely bad rap on here. Goes on tangents, yes, but stories usually interesting/amusing and pertain to the subject. Very fun guy, great sense of humor, very knowledgeable, VERY approachable. Ended up taking two classes with him, despite not liking this psych branch much. Finished with high B+ without doing much reading.
Often goes off topic, but stories are usually interesting/relevant. Very fun/approachable. 90% test material pulled from the book. If you are good at reading your text, you will do VERY well. I finished with a B, and only read the night before tests. Sniffy assignments kind of boring/time consuming, but easy As. Not an easy class, but not hard.
Mark Henn is a genuinely great professor and it saddens me that some raters have thought otherwise. He tells stories but they ARE relevant and they are funny. Tests are difficult but not if you read and study the text. He is hilarious and adorable.
really really nice guy but an absolutley terrible teacher! class has nothing to do with the exams and most people dont go to class at all. the exams are hard even when you read the textbook. maybe its easy for some people if they have a knack for it but i dont and its hard
Professor Henn is an extremely likeable guy, but his teaching style is very disorganized. Often times runs off on irrelevant tangents and is hard to follow even if you have been paying attention. Also, hard to reach outside of class. Grades are heavily scaled and doing well is not necessarily hard if you are a good student.
Henn was a very fair teacher. He knows his tests are hard, so he scales them significantly. The lowest grade you can get on an exam is a D. Going to lecture is not necessary at all, just stuy the chapters before the test and use the online quizzes and study guide, and you should be able to get at least a B.
If you are reading this dont take psych with him! Class is a waste of time and tests are extremely hard compared to other psych teachers at UNH. DO NOT TAKE INTRO PSYCH WITH HIM!!!!!!
Henn is a nice guy, but not the greatest professor, I consider it to be too hard for an Intro. He often goes off on tangents. But he does scale the tests and post the [extensive] slides. I managed to get a B in the class without buying the $150 book, I just relied on the Study Guide & the supplemental online stuff (MC quizzes, T/F, flash cards).
His behaviorism class rules! Attendance is not mandatory but if you go to class you will do well in the course. It's seriously true, the discussions are awesome.
DO NOT TAKE HIS BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS CLASS!!! he just reads of his slides and is not interesting at all. he tries to be funny but it really doesn't make up for his terrible lecturing. i had no desire to go to this class ever
Excellent professor, his behavioral analysis class is detailed and comprehensive. Uses good real-world examples, knows his stuff. Would recommend working for your grade, as the course is both challenging and insightful.
Nice guy, but HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. I'm not joking. I read all of these before taking his class and said w/e, but IM SERIOUS. DO NOT TAKE B.A. WITH HIM. It's miserable, exams are soo difficult and specific. His ppts have nothing to do with the chapters. He's a sweetheart but I wouldn't reccommend his BA class.
Very Interesting, offers help if you need it. Solid guy.
classes are useless and does not help when it comes to test time considering his tests are absolutely brutal.
Nice guy, his classes are interesting, but he goes on and on about things that arnt even on the test. The tests are multipe choice but hard. His lectures are unoranganized, his office is disgustingly messy. 90% of your grade is his tests and then the other 10% is this dumb sniffy assignment that takes forever. I dont recommend this teacher.
Worst professor I have ever had! He is extremely unorganized, takes weeks to get assignments back, and is unclear about class expectations and grading. Class material would have been interesting, but its not worth taking the class if he is the professor. It was a complete waste of my tuition money. Avoid him at all costs!!
Really nice guy, but his material is boring. Granted I was not interested in the class when I started, but he goes ON AND ON. Most of his materials are not on the test so make sure you read the book!!
Professor Henn is such a nice guy. His exams are pretty difficult but he grades on a curve which will boost your exam around a full letter grade. He's more than willing to give you the time of day and help you to the best of his ability. He's a little quirky which makes class very interesting. I'd definitely reccommend taking a class with him!
I was so excited to finally be in a Personality Psych class, but when I got to the class I was extremely disappointed although nice and funny at the same time Prof. Henn teachings the information in a very boring way and does not stray far away from the book in any sense.
Absolutly love studying personality and professor Henn is fun. However fun doesn't mean good professor. He expects you to learn from the book and doesn't really use the slide show even though it is up during the whole class. Tests are hard alot of very specific material on them. The class would be alot better if Henn taught what was on the test.
Henn is a great guy. He's funny and entertaining. But he is very biased. He'll straight up tell you that what he's saying is biased but that doesn't make it any better. He has the slides up all class but never really seems to reference them, instead he just goes on and on about everything that ISN'T in the exam. Read the book and you'll get an A.
He's a really nice guy but i am so lost in his class because he has too many stories and his exams are hard. in order to remotely understand the material, you have to read the book. the book is really dry and he doesnt really help clarify the material
Unlike many think, Henn is a great professor. Your brain may feel fried, but he gives you really interesting things to think about. Blogs=wicked easy, just remember to do them! Exams are really easy if you attend class....He is very helpful!...ALSO you can persuade him to delay due dates, just ask!!!!!!!!!
I've attended every class because I feel as though if I missed one I would fall behind. I found myself being confused most of the class with his notes being all over the place and his handwriting is illegible. When reading the text to try and understand, none of the material you review will be on the test. If you want a good grade, not the class.
loved him, loved his class.
I loved the class and he made it really fun and interesting. He was always full of energy and engaging.
I really loved Henn. This is my favorite class I have taken. HOWEVER you must work really really hard. I suggest reading the textbook before coming to class, then you can write down the stuff that he says that you don't remember from the book. THat has helped me get As on all the exams.
Henn is a great guy. His heart is in the right place, but his teaching is everywhere. I'm not quite sure what I took out of this class. If you work hard, do not expect to get higher than a B+. That's just how Henn operates. Overall, if you're okay getting a grade below what you normally get, take it. The workload isn't bad...but he is a hard grader
You basically have to teach the whole class to yourself, absolutely pointless to attend his class. Reads off the powerpoint and posts them online. His way of teaching is extremely boring, might as well never show up unless its exam day.
Henn is great, scatterbrained but down to earth and funny. I love his class. He's good about telling you how to apply what you learn to your life. Highly recommend.
Definitely not even worth attending class. You waste time that you could actually use studying on your own. He spends most of his lecture talking about his personal life, or things that merely relate to the actual content.
I love Henn and he's hilarious, but don't ever expect him to respond to your emails. You can skip classes and be fine since half the time he doesn't even cover material. His midterm and final were take-home but still difficult considering he never covers any actual material.
I would absolutely buy the book for this class, it's the only way you will be able to pass the tests. Don't expect to learn much in class and be prepared to do a lot of reading on your own time. I really liked psych when I took it in high school, this class sucked all the fun out of it though
Henn is a great professor and really knows what he is talking about. You do have to do a lot of work on your own, but attending his class normally clarifies what you're learning. If you enjoy psychology, then he is a good teacher for you.
Make sure you use the textbook's website for the practice exams, a lot of his exam questions come from those. He's a really awesome person and I enjoyed this class, but sometimes he can get sidetracked and confuse you.
Lectures are long and useless. Does put things mentioned in class on tests though. Gets off topic a lot. Not an easy A class. Need the book since you have to teach yourself. Reads straight from 20 slide power points which makes class worse. Not a fun class at all. Cool guy but terrible teacher
Best teacher I have had at UNH! Genius and so real. Cares about students and has a good sense of humor. People may think he is a difficult teacher, but you just must listen to him and take efficient notes.
He honestly does not do anything all he does are lectures that do not really help you with all 5 exams. He does not help you when you need it and he scales his exams sooooo much everyone fails
Not necessary to go to class, but it helps. You can learn everything you need from book and slides. Gets off topic a lot. No response to emails. Tests are hard. Basically have to teach yourself because he only speaks in examples and doesn't give clear definitions. Won't be taking a class with him again; I don't feel he taught me anything.
Henn is a great person and if you pick his brain the right way, he great. The thing is, if you aren't interested in behavioral psych a lot of his tangents aren't interesting. He's very scatterbrained but he seems to know what he is talking about. If you want an A, it takes a lot of work. This is coming from a psych major.
Do not take this if you're looking for an easy requirement filler. Get ready to read, lecture is a waste of time. The only way to get an A on an exam is to have pretty much memorized the 3 chapters word for word.
Professor Henn seems to be an intelligent guy but does not teach the material well. He does a quick overview in class and then displays his dissatisfaction with the course material by providing personal opinion on how he would do it. This is great and all, but does not help with the tests he gives.
Don't have to go if you don't want to because he posts his powerpoints online and reads off of them in class. HW assignments done at home due the day of exams (so 4 or 5 HW assignments). Exams are about 70 questions in scantron form. Very nice and enthusiastic about material, but very dry subject. No real chance to make up your grade besides exams!
I read through the reviews and figured I'd give this class a shot, because how bad could it really be? BAD. All he does is read off his slides, which are copied word for word from the book. The exams are very difficult, you basically need to memorize every single little thing. He's hard to communicate with and doesn't answer questions thoroughly.
He reads straight off the slides, which are right from the book. You have to read all the chapters to even get a low B on exams. The average for most exams was a low C. Students knew material but he is a terrible grader. Would recommend getting a different professor because it could be interesting, he just doesn't know how to teach.
I read the comments and figured I'd give him a try since Psych is my thing but I was DEAD WRONG. His tests are so so so SO SO SO SO hard. The average for the exam is a D that gets scaled all the way up to a B and then he doesn't even discuss it in class.... that's a problem. The only reason I am passing this class is because he scales.
Henn was interesting, energetic, and made sure the class wasn't boring or stale. I really enjoyed it. He uses powerpoints in his class but skips through slides, goes on tangents that are included in tests and talks fast. I wouldn't recommend skipping class. Go to classes, do the reading, and study for tests. You'll do well
the worst. you will fail if you don't memorize every single word of the chapters on the test. I didn't learn a thing and I love psyc, so disappointed because I actually put a lot of effort in for nothing
Henn is a great professor. I think people get upset because they expect college to be a cake walk. This class teaches a major theoretical framework in psychology. If you plan on practicing psychology professionally, this would be a great class to take, as it gives real world examples of behavioral modifications. Do the work and you'll be fine!
Henn is a very nice and he is hilarious however, he only grades exams which are very hard. If you don't read the chapters from the text book you can expect to fail the tests. He gets off topic and is very confusing.
Henn is an awesome guy, which makes it hard to hate him. He is a little bit ditzy. He's quite a character. If you could take another class, you should! It isn't worth your time, and you're probably going to fail.
He's a great guy but an awful teacher
Marc Henn is a really funny and nice guy but don't let his sweet nature and joke cracking fool you! His tests are extremely hard and my lord the chapters are like the stair machine at the gym, THEY NEVER END.
Got one B in my college career.. then took this class. Absolutely horrifying. Such a great guy, and you want to love him because he is funny but HORRIBLE professor. Exames are impossible, and your grade is based strictly off 4 of them. Do NOT take whatever you do. Please, save yourself.
He's so passionate that he forgets to blink. Thats saying something.
Rants, rants, and more rants. Not sure what I learned this semester but he sure as hell is a nice guy. He is clearly intelligent but teaching is not quite his niche. There's a midterm and final on topics we essentially never learned about. :/
Awesome professor who truly seems to care about his students. He knows how to connect with his students and inspire us to make social change in the world in his behaviorism in contemporary society class. I have no idea what my grade is going to be because there aren't too many assignments but I truly benefited from the course.
Usually I wouldn't take the time to write a review but I've heard a lot of conflicting views on Mark so I feel I should give my personal opinion after being enlightened by his teachings in Contemporary Society. First off, best class I've taken at UNH. Very inspiring - if you want to gain something from a class, take it with Henn!!!
He is awesome, I loved his class. I'd take him again if I could.
Horrible professor. Doesn't teach well at all. Not clear about what is on tests. Doesn't allow you to see your test in class. He's a nice guy but a terrible teacher and is not able to keep lecture halls of 200 people engaged in class. Class average is 44/75 on exams, not acceptable for me nor should it be for anyone
Henn was a great professor. His lectures can be tough to get through because he doesn't follow the slides at all. He goes off and tells stories often. He is really sweet and although his exams are super difficult no matter how hard you study, he's always there if you want to go over it.
He is clearly a nice guy but an awful teacher.. He does not explain the chapters at all and does not explain the PowerPoints that he puts up in class. He goes on personal rants and wastes the entire classes time. The tests are impossible and your entire grade is based off of them. Do not take his class.
I hate to do this because he is a very nice guy and always puts his best foot forward to help students, but he is an awful professor. I have learned nothing from his lectures, mostly due to the fact that he doesn't follow his own slides. Also, his tests are very difficult, even with his scaling.
Tough Grader with really hard tests. His lectures were very boring, hard to tell what you need to take notes on because he will say he disagrees with slides. Other than that Henn is clearly a great person.
Professor Henn is easily one of my favorite teachers I've had. His energy and passion for the subject are obvious and make his classes enjoyable. He is the kind of professor who understands that mistakes happen and his caring and understanding nature makes him easily approachable.
I loved this class so much! He tends to not stick to the lecture slides, but his lectures are very interesting. Reading the textbook is a must, but if you enjoy the subject it's no problem. Overall great guy and great prof!
This class is A LOT of work If you aren't passionate about the field and aren't willing to put the work in then I wouldn't recommend taking it. I had friends who has him before me and warned me about taking it. It was one of the best classes I took. You have to work hard for the grade but is very beneficial. Great guy who is willing to help out.
Professor Henn is extremely intelligent and passionate about behaviorism. Unfortunately, he tends to ramble and can be really hard to follow during lecture. Course grade was based on a small amount of difficult writing assignments. However, Professor Henn is always available outside of class, and is a really nice guy.
Professor Henn lectures more on interesting material than material that will be on tests. His lectures aren't mandatory and you can probably get a decent grade without showing up. His tests are on a curve so they aren't hard if you smarter than the average COLA kid and you look over the online textbook before the tests. Easy 100 HW assignments too
He is a nice guy but not a good professor. The exams are extremely hard and so freaking long!!! The class is based off of 5 exams too. Not even his scales on the exam helped me. Really interesting class but its a shame I had to teach myself the material since he goes off about random things in class.
I feel bad not giving him a good review because he is a very nice and genuine person, but an awful professor. He rants off in class about nothing close to the material. His tests are extremely hard, but the homework's and online quizzes are so easy, so that helps your grade somewhat. He scales his tests which also helps but the class is miserable
Henn is an absolute genius but not so good at communicating with his students as a professor. He tends to go off on tangents and sometimes it is difficult to follow the point of his lectures. Overall he is a good professor but you need to pay attention or you will get very lost very quickly.
do not take this class, extremely hard exams which is your only grade. talks all class but NOT about what will be on the exam. awful
This class is super interesting if you're serious about the subject. The tests are all about the readings while lectures are complementary to them. I get why people don't like this class when there are only two grading criteria, yet an A is not so hard if you work for it (seriously you don't even need to put THAT MUCH of work).
Mark Henn repeats the same thing over and over again. The only thing he has talked about in class so far is classical conditioning, which we went over in depth in PSYC 401. The class is mostly self taught with the Cengage learning activities that he requires you to purchase for $120. He is unaccessible outside of class and is not very understanding
he tends to go off on a lot of tangents but g bless this man, he is too pure for this world. G bless him and his handprint sweater
Prof Henn cares about his job but doesn't know how to teach well. He us genuine and a very intelligent man, but lectures are very confusing and not very beneficial. Exams are very difficult and study guides are not provided.
Nice guy but goes off on tangents frequent. Do not need to go to the lecture but, the exams are impossible. take with a different prof
Professor Henn is easily the worst Professor I have had at UNH. He teaches nothing and his exams are impossible (he doesn't make them himself they are tests given by the company that makes the text book). If you don't read the text book and study every detail, you will fail the exams and fail the class. Do not recommend.
I felt this prof expected the students to walk in already knowing the course material so he could go off on tangents for the entire class. The tests are nearly impossible, the lectures are hard to follow, and once I started doing badly there was no coming back. Absolutely would not recommend this class or prof.
Everytime I went to lecture I regretted it. Each class was a waste of time because rarely ever did he go over what was on the test. He rambles and wastes time with off topic examples. Grades very hard. 0/10 rec
Mark Henn is the worst professor I've had at UNH. His lectures make no sense, he expects students to read the slides he skips and his exams are designed to trip you up. He never answers emails and does not make himself accessible to students. It's not hard but you really have to study to do well on exams. Definitely would not recommend ever.
I do not recommend taking this course with Professor Henn. He is nice and enthusiastic about the subject but methods of testing knowledge are poor. The exams are 75 multiple choice questions. Questions are difficult. I think more short answer or fill in the blank would be helpful. Lectures tend to go off topic and are not always useful.
Not sure why everyone hates Henn :( Read the textbook, do the online stuff, study the vocab and you'll do well on the exams. Super nice guy, very willing to help you if you go and see him outside of class. Lecture information can be a little dry but he is very passionate and intelligent about the material
Awesome professor. He takes advantage of the text to have people read the boring stuff outside of class, so the classes themselves talk about the interesting parts. If you don't read the text, you will fail the tests. Plus side, I loved just having to worry about graded tests and nothing outside of them. Favorite teacher at UNH.
he is an awful teachers. His tests are all rigid and are very confusing for how he grades them. Attending class is completely pointless, he just talks about nothing during class. One of the worse classes I have ever taken here at UNH
Worst professor I have EVER had at UNH. He doesnt teach during his lecture and will go over pointless information that wont be on the exam. Everything that is on the exams has to be self taught because he skips over slides and barley has time to teach after rambling about nonsense. If you dont have to take this teacher DONT.
I liked him as a person but his lectures are boring and do not really relate to anything, if you miss class you do not miss anything. I just read the textbook/looked over the slides and did fine. The only other thing is test questions may be worded weirdly and he has a confusing grading style for them. Easy A though.
he cares so much for all of his students, even in his 200 person lecture. henn is so understanding when it comes to grades, and is always available to give people individual help. he adds all kinds of fun demonstrations to his lectures to keep them engaging, and has some really interesting opinions if you stop to talk to him after class
Absolutely WONDERFUL professor. Very understanding about missed assignments (I missed a test unexcused and he let me take it at the end of the semester). For the most part I enjoyed his lectures but if you miss any/don't go you're not missing anything. Read the textbook and do all the online work and it's an "easy A".
As you can see, everyone has differing opinions about professors. I think Prof. Henn is an outstanding professor and really cares about students. Tests are hard but manageable. Exams come right out of the textbook, so if you read and memorize the vocab from the homework you shouldn't have to worry. He is funny and very accessible outside class.
This dude is the funniest prof and the only professor that made me regret not showing up to more classes because of how crazy he is in the lectures. Like seriously he yells and involves everyone in the room and its the best thing youll ever see. 10/10
I LOVED his 521 and have been trying to get into his 722 for the past 3 semesters and finally got it! He is a wonderful person. He is passionate about the subject, and is willing to provide help if you seek for it. People keep complaining about the difficulty of the exams; they are not that hard. You just need to go over the book and get an A.
I currently have him for 521 and It is miserable. He is one of the most unorganized professors I've ever had. He goes off on tangents every class and talks about things that do not relate to the material. He skips over important information during lecture that later on shows up in the homework and exams. Overall nice guy, BAD professor.
work professor I have every had at UNH. The exams are so difficult and there is no guidance for them, when I finished the semester with him our class average was a D+/C-. Guess that's what happens when they have tenure.
I'm a psych major and was excited about taking this class. Now I'm in it and I'm not enjoying it at all. Mark is a really nice & funny guy but not a good teacher. The exams are extremely hard and even studying for a week using Quizlet didn't help me with my grades. He also is hard to access after class for help. I recommend the class, not the prof.
Exams are incredibly difficult and there isn't any guidance for them, I spent far too much time teaching myself the material and most of it wasn't even on the exams. Worst professor I've had so far, not easily accessible to students. I recommend the class, but not the professor.
I have never had Dr. Henn before, but I was very happy with how he handled remote learning this semester. He is so understanding and is allowing us to make up any late assignments without penalty. His directions can be a little confusing but he is always available to contact for clarification. Great class :) and interesting topics!
Mark Henn was the worst professor I had experienced at UNH. He would provide study guides for the exams and none of the information on the guides were part of the exams. You also have to train a virtual rat which is tedious. Do not take his course.
he never held zoom meetings. Everything was from a textbook.
This semester has been the absolute worst. But this course really helped in terms of getting back into the groove of study. Sure, Psych is not for everyone - it took some cracking of books and note-making to get my head around the topics. But the advice was excellent, feedback great. Henn is a real trooper in tough times - glad I took this class.
Lectures are absolutely useless.
Mark Henn was entirely unnecessary to this course. He gives a lot of different things that need to be done and is all over the place in his lectures.
First lecture he said to not bother coming to class because he will not teach us the textbook during lectures. Thats your job to teach yourself. Never specified assignments- I have 50 to complete during finals week that were never posted on canvas. Doesnt respond to email. He is terrible. Awful. Being paid to provide us a textbook + do nothing
Went to one lecture, was absolutely pointless. All the info you need is posted online. Exams were online, lots of discussion posts, interactive readings, videos, quizzes, textbook stuff, ALL graded. Didn't tell us he was grading discussion posts till the end of year had to go back and do them all. If you want a class you don't have to show up to...
I know that his lectures for this class were not mandatory, but I would come to class most days because he provided an amazing environment, and his tangents really made it so much easier to understand concepts.
Henn's teaching style is definitely not for everyone; his lectures aren't always organized; he doesn't use slides; and he doesn't grade much. But what he lacks in organization he makes up for in effort and responsibility to his students. Going to class makes such a big difference.
It makes me sad this man has any bad reviews! So caring and nice, sweetest man. Taking him again this fall. Every time i missed an assignment he opened it back up for me, the textbook he required was mindtap on cengage
I think Professor Henn is a very kind and interesting person, but he isn't always able to get his point across well during lecture. His lectures are very confusing and often don't align with what he's trying to teach and he tends to go on tangents. However he is extremely knowledgable and nice and very accommodating when you can get a hold of him!
Great, funny, and caring professor. Lots of work can be done outside of class, so if you miss class, you have nothing to worry about. Lectures can be long, but he genuinely cares about the students. Online text can help a lot.
I personally did not like Professor Henn not only because i feel he did not take any of the classes opinions, he only talked about his own which was really bothersome to me. He would preach about what he likes and thinks and for me personally I very often disagreed.
stopped going after the second week since you can do everything online. by far the easiest intro to psych prof. weekly untimed online quizzes and occasional online tests. honestly felt like i didn't take this class because there's barely any work.
All his lectures were recorded and posted, which made it easy to catch up. I tried to go to lectures, because he made the lectures interesting and is funny, making it easier to remember concepts. He was super nice and understanding as long as you communicate with him. He's willing to accommodate and work with students' needs.
I did not go to this class once throughout the semester...I ended with a 96. All of his lectures are posted in advance on canvas and they are clearly laid out based on the exam content. All quizzes and assignments are on the HW software but answers can be found in the notes/on Quizlet (same with the exams). Super easy class for a major requirement
So annoying. Sucks at getting things back to you, especially if it's an assignment you need graded with comments for another assignment. Essentially told me all of the sources for my final project weren't good because they were "psychology" sources... last time I checked this class was "PSYC 722." Cringe at times. Not worth taking this class.
Lectures are a waste of time, he speeds through slideshows so you can't even take notes on them, you'd be better off spending your energy just reading the textbook. The tests are really long, complicated, and meant to confuse you.
These reviews make me sad. Prof Henn is such a nice and caring man and will do anything to help you if you're struggling. He does take forever to get things back to you but he just needs a TA. You don't have to go to class and there are no due dates. His class is a lot but for a 700 it's simple enough. Didn't even read the textbook and got an A
A lot of the lectures were very mind opening, but I took this as a discovery and didn't feel like it was worth it due to the how heavy the work load was. The lectures are structured more like Ted talks, so sometimes it was more productive to just use the class time to study on your own. The professor was very nice though!
Professor Henn is a great teacher. Yes his lectures can be disorganized but that's when your supposed to ask questions which I can bet 99% of the bad reviews don't ask questions, go to class, or simply don't care about wanting to learn. Sounds like a lot of lazy students who would rather take a class you don't have to show up too and complain !
This class can be done entirely online with minimal effort. The professor relies heavily on the textbook and weekly quizzes, so self-study is key. Apps like unstuckstudy were very helpful for preparing. Overall, an easy intro psych course.
Super nice and really funny professor. Unfortunately no one shows up for his classes because they aren't mandatory and you don't need to attend them to pass... but he really is funny and caring and it makes me feel bad that people don't like him because he's so friendly and obviously loves his job very much.
I really enjoyed Mark Henn as a professor. His class can be done almost entirely remotely and he makes it easy to do well in his class. Everything is posted on Canvas so you can review everything on your own time. However, he isn't good at responding to emails so that made it difficult to reach him if you aren't attending class in person.
Textbook is kinda expensive, lectures are always light, never too difficult. Exams can be kinda hard if you dont understand what's going on. If you want a class where it's very engaged, this isn't the class. But the professor is very kind!
Mark was awesome and very accommodating to each persons needs!
Professor Henn is a very funny lecturer, but the material can be a little monotonous at times. There is an online textbook that has bi-weekly assignments that are very easy to complete. The exams are very simple & you can take them from your dorm. This is a great class if you are looking for something to fill your schedule!
While very inspirational and a caring person, he is not a great instructor. We never got feedback for something crucial to writing the final paper. Many students asked for updates on getting those grades back, and we were told over and over "next week", and ended up never getting them.
He's a really great guy and is super passionate about the subject. All of the quizzes and exams are online and you get 100s on the quizzes no matter what since you can retake as many times as needed. The exams are quite confusing though, a lot of the questions are worded weirdly and are about things that you wouldn't think to take notes on
waits until last minute to grade
