A genuinely kind man and an energetic professor. I don't think that I would take another class with him though, because I didn't feel challenged enough by him. It was a telecourse so perhaps his regular class is more challenging.

Dr. Herman is an outstanding professor. He is energetic and extremely intelligent, which made for a class I always looked forward to. He knows what he is talking about, and does in fact know something about (close to) everything.
Never liked any history classes until I met him. Made everything interesting enough for me to remember and want to learn more.
this man could give alex trebeck a run for his money.
one of the greatist professors I have ever had. Knows how to make class fun and interesting. He knows a little about all subjects.
brilliant, sweet man
incredible teacher and human being
There is a lot of material covered in this course. However, he explains it in such an intesting manner that its near impossible to not retain. He is a very fair and caring professor. I highly recommend him.
The best teacher ever, he is very smart, very fun, and the way he teaches is much different. He knows how to make things interesting, and he compares past with present, to contrast with reality, to make you understand. Very professional, very attentive, caring and he learns the names of the students the first day, making you feel welcomed.
He covered A LOT of material into a short Summer A session, ...quite an overload - but Dr. Hermand deff. made it easier than it could have been! An A+ in my book! He has a great deal of knowledge and is willing to help anyone who needs it!!
One of the best teachers I have had at Edison. You learn quite a bit during the course of the semester. Has somewhat difficult tests and has four papers that you must do to complete the class. Is willing to explain any related topic to the one that is being discussed. Is a very intelligent man and I highly recommend that you take his course.
One of the best teachers that I have ever had. Beware asking him questions after class hours though...he will go on forever!! Nice guy, straight forward. Do what he says and you'll get and A and learn alot, too.
Dr. Herman was one of my favorite profs at Edison! He is an amazing teacher and knows his subject inside out. He was very helpful in class and out, and did his best to help his students succeed. I can not recommend him highly enough, anything he teaches would be worth the time and money!
Outstanding, brilliant, makes History facinating.
Good professor. I took the telecourse and it was a very nice laid back course for me. He was helpful if I asked him for help and was prompt in response to any e-mail questions.
Dr. Herman was a nice professor; he is always willing to help. I took this class during the summer, you must go to his class, because he covers so much! I had to take my final a week early and he was very willing to help me with the work I would be missing. Very nice guy I would recommend, but you must study for his test.
Great teacher! Very helpful and understanding if you attend the class and take lectures you will do well on the tests.
Awesome teacher! He is honestly the smartest man I have ever met and he knows EVERYTHING about history....when you ask a question he knows it off the top off his head! His tests are a little tough but he covers all the questions thoroughly in his notes and if you know the notes your golden! Wonderful.....fair grader... interesting class.
This professor is very intelligent, but he is a hard grader for such an "Easy Class". If you really want to learn, take him. If your major is not History DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
One of the smartest professors you could ever take. Pay close attention to his handouts as they reappear on his exams. As long as you take good notes on lectures and study the handout you will do well in his course.
This professor is one of the most helpful instructors I've ever had. Seldom at a larger university will you find a PHD willing to give assistance with the material, second chances on papers and tests, or advice not related to the course(ie: how to handle the "system" of Academia, or tips on how to succeed with other instructors) as readily as he.
Take the notes on the board, use the list of terms as a study guide, ask a question every now and then, and get an A in the class. Pretty simple. One of the smartest professors I've had at Edison or anywhere. He knows more about History then The Discovery folks.
Dr. Herman teaches history in such a way that it appears interesting and relevant. However, he is a very tough grader, and he doesn't give any extra credit. Will look over student essays in advance. I would not recommend this class to anyone that does not already have a thorough interest in History and prior knowledge of it.
Very respectable person. He teaches with great relevance. Very professional and clear. Take easy notes, revise his terms list, and you will pass. He's not hard!
Great instructor having taken several courses with him and would do so again loves what he teaches.
very hard grader.....he was a good teacher but he was to picky about papers
I Don't recommend. I received worse grades of college career on papers. Study handouts and you'll do ok. Four 1,000 word papers only count as 2 test grades.
Dr. Herman has superior knowledge of history and is willing to help students whenever he can. If you don't show up to class and/or don't take notes, you will struggle. His tests come straight from the notes and handouts, so pay attention to them. He also gives an enormous amount of sources for success on his four papers.
Amazing Prof. Love what he does and wants everyone to learn. Walking, talking history book. I hated History before this class but came out with an appreciation for its importance thanks to Dr. Herman.
Professor Herman is extremely knowledgeable on history and truly loves to teach. Pay attention and he makes everything relevant to the present. Great teacher, I would definately take him again!
Professor Herman is a very intelligent man. . He doesn't use notes when he is giving lecture, he is just that smart! Tests are mult. choice and short essay! He is a great professor! I would take him again no doubt!!
Don't buy the book. Follow the terms sheet he gives you on the first day of class, it contains everything you need to know for the exams. Oh and by the way, HE IS A SPECTACULAR PROFESSOR!
Awesome Awesome professor! I got an easy A in his class but I am a history major...he is a very knowledgeable man and as long as you take good notes and follow the syllabus you will do great...DONT BUY THE BOOK
BEST HISTORY POF EVER. KNOWS EVERYTHING AND THEN SOME. TAKE THIS CLASS AND U WILL NEVER SEE HISTORY THE SAME WAY AGAIN! HE SEE HISTORY NOT AS A LINE, BUT AS A TAPESTRY THAT IS ALL CONNECTED.
Professor Herman nice guy an all but goes off on a tangent way to much. Smart guy but does not make the class interesting at all. All over the place with notes and speaks more about sports than WWI hes cool i guess if your at all interested in the topic but if not dont recommend him. Oh and the Textbook waste of money
Dr. Herman is a great professor who knows what he is talking about. History is not my favorite subject but Dr. Herman has actually allowed me to enjoy the class. If you study and put effort into the class you will be fine.
Great Professor. Clearly tells you exactly what is on the test. Class will definitely make you think. Writing is broken up into three essays and easily manageable.
Prof Herman is one of the best professor I've had. You do need to step up your note writing skills because there is quite a bit of info to write down. But he writes the main points on the board. His tests are easy. Exactly what he thought you and talked about. He is very concerned about plagarism and he checks everything so don't cheat!
he was a great professor. he explained everything well. no need to buy the text book. he writes all the notes on the board. if you study the notes you'll get a good grade. he tells you the essay questions before the test so that you can make a gook grade. he was a great teacher.
Great human questions was interestingly taught. It was a group taught class and the movies were terrible. he is very subjective on grading and I found all the handouts to be disorganized. The course tests are memorizing and spitting it out. I got better grades for length of papers then on the content. wouldn't retake
Dr. Herman is an excellent professor! He made the class very interesting. If you want to learn, his class is for you! He practically tells you exactly what you need to know for tests; so pay attention in class. He helped me improve my writing skills. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. I would highly recommend him.
Very Knowledgeable. Seems to enjoy the subject matter. Pay attention, take notes, read, and do assignments. If you do what you need to do, there should be no problems.
Great TEACHER! Dr. Herman is the best history teacher I have ever had! I just took Dr. Herman for Mini Summer A. We had two sets of essays due. I got an A on one and a B on the other set. The test were exactly from all the handouts given and the lectures. Take notes and read through the handouts and you will get an A. Don't buy book.
He was a great professor, he went off on funny tangents. Just pay attention, do not waste your money on a book he gives great handouts. Also follow your vocabulary list.
he's a good teacher and knows his subject, however I would not recommend him. only take him if you really enjoy and are pursing a career involving the course. his lectures bounce around an are a bit hard to follow.
very good professor. he loves his profession dearly and is very passionate.his slides are very clear and speaks to you like an adult. All exams come from lecture and powerpoint slides,no book used. He has a very good sense of humor and keeps it intresting
Dr. Herman is a great professor and I highly recommend his classes. He is kind and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the world. He teaches from handouts and his lectures more so than the book, which is fine. He is quite clear as to what will need to be studied on the tests.
AWESOME TEACHER!!! Very intriging topics during every class. As for the tests, if you attend his classes, take good notes, and pay attention in class, you will pass every test. His love for teaching history is a key asspect you look for in a teacher. Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!
COME TO CLASS He writes everything you need to know on the blackboard. Everything you need to know comes from his lecture and what he puts on the board. He gives handouts at the begining of every class and his tests are EXACTLY from his lectures. He is a phenomenal teacher if you don't like history or reading from the book.
Professor will bend over backwards for students who participate. No need for textbook, but you wont do well on the test if you miss a lecture. 4 papers are required. He's a stickler on how you quote rather than the actual content. midterm and final are not cummulative and count as regular test grades. People found him boring.
Prof. Herman is seriously the best teacher I've had. IN A WHILE. He is thorough and interesting. He's passionate about his subject and helps you every step of the way. He makes sure to cover what you need to know and adds interesting extras. If I could take him for every course from now on, I definitely would. I recommend him 1000%!!
Dr Herman is the best! He is very involved in ur learning. Tells stories to teach and keep ur interest. Very helpful even on test day. I found I put forth more effort in his class than any other I have ever taken. He's THAT good. I even found myself taking about the material we covered in class outside of class, for days after even!
Dr. Herman is a great teacher. He lectures with energy and confidence, while allowing students to ask questions at any time. Don't miss out on taking his class! Just be sure to show up for every class on time and to turn in your essays the days they are due.
He was an amazing professor who made sure you got the information. He is always willing to take time out of his day to ensure that his students pass. he responds to e-mails promptly. He gets along very well with students. Best professor EVER
This professor is Amazing! I never liked history before, and I came into this class with low expectations. However, I actually enjoy history and the way eh teaches. Professor Herman is passionate about his subject, and he enjoys teachnig and cares about the students. Everything you need to know are in his lectures and notes he puts on the board.
Wonderful professor! Extremely clear, & clearly loves his profession. Wish he taught every subject at Edison!
I was dreading having to take world history. With this professor the class was interesting and fun. He was difficult with tests, but if you study what he talks about you will do great. He was my favorite professor over all. Best if you do not miss class. He always goes over everything before the test and hints at what will be included.
Great Teacher! He loves worksheets and they are a big part of his test! Study your notes, hints are given before each test. Three essays are required (but easy!) He reviews everything. If you miss a class just talk to him and he will fill you in. He loves history and it shows! Def Recommend!
He is excellent and knows his stuff. This semester he did not have control over his students with outlasting comments. I feel he should incorporate more extra credit. But overall he is great.
If your not very interested in History, I don't recommend taking him, he does not give study guides and all his class notes are limited he does not use slideshows. He is a good teacher but the information is not easy to comprehend if your not interested in the subject.
He has a great wealth of information ..... ask him questions about anything within the scope of history (almost anything) .... he is very enthusiastic about teaching and learning
Took this as a summer class Prof is nice & knows what he is talking about, but it's hard to pay attention after a some time because lecture is all there is & some videos. It is a lot of information. If you can record this class & review your notes, that might be very helpful. His notes are okay, but you need to add your own to rememver later.
Dr. Herman is an outstanding Professor. All of the day's notes are written on the board when you get to class. I suggest getting to class 5 minutes early and write down the notes so you can give the lecture your full attention. Dr. Herman DOES have office hours and he has more knowledge on the tip of his tongue than most will ever have.
Loved this prof and class! Interesting lectures that he ties into current events really well. Gives you a terms list on the first day of class that has everything you'll need to study for the whole course. He's also willing to help answer questions or look over drafts. One of my favorite classes at Edison!
GREAT Teacher! If you need a history class, take his. He is well versed in his material, hands out excellent worksheets and information. Makes papers a breeze. If you do your papers early, he will even proof them. Tests more challenging. No Final. GREAT! I learned alot, loved his class.Attendance a must, there are valuable notes on the board.
Professor Herman is amazing. His knowledge of history is more expansive than the text book used in the course. He is extremely helpful and will dish out extra credit. Be warned, miss a day in his class and miss two pages of notes that will be on test. Over all, great teacher.
Professor Herman is Awesome! He always has the days notes posted on the board and allows you time to copy them before his lecture. He has an expansive knowledge of world history and has an answer for nearly every question. If you have any questions or problems he will e-mail you back immediately. He returns papers the next week. Awesome!
Awesome teacher, I'm not even done with his class ,but I feel the need to put the word out there. This man has got to be the best teacher I've had, he cares for the his students , and actually enjoys reading your essays. He truly loves history and I've learned that his passion is contagious. Every teacher needs to be like him. A very classy gent.
I received a C in the class, but it was not because of the professor. Professor Herman is awesome! If you pay attention in class and review the notes you should do fine. I personally have a mental block when it comes to History of any kind. I would have done better if I studied the notes better. Everything on the tests were in the notes.
Dr. Herman is one of the best professors I've ever had. I had previously failed this class with another professor. Dr. Herman made the class extremely interesting (for a history class!) and easy to pass. He gives you the study material for tests and will proof-read your essays before the turn-in date. Easy A if you put in the effort!
Prof. Herman is the teacher to take. I wasn't so interested in History at all until this class. He gives a fair bit of notes but they are all pertinent and are on the tests. Only 3 essays, that he will proof read. He does review before tests verbally and gives a handout at the beginning you can study from. Definitely take him!
Really great!!! He is so nice and helpful I would definitely take him again.
Herman is the best history teacher I've ever seen! Extremely knowledgeable; handles the lecture material perfectly and then much more. He even knows the position of Finland on the map of the world. Interesting and enjoyable lectures as well as super easy tests. For future raters: remember to contribute towards achieving chili pepper for Herman.
Two friends recommended Dr. Herman and I am so glad they did. His class is super easy. There are four tests and three research papers. Tests are straightforward. He reads drafts of research papers. He genuinely cares about his students and the subject matter. He is an awesome professor. Do yourself a favor and take him!!! :)
Dr. Herman's passion for history helps make the class interesting. I've never gotten higher than a C in a history class, until now (I got an A, and a 99% on the final!). I was was never bored! Lots of notes, but it will be exactly what you are tested on in his 4 exams. You have 3 essays to do but he tells you what sources to use. Best Prof ever!
Best history professor at FSW. Study notes and his handouts and you will pass. 3 easy research papers & 4 tests. Very helpful and is respected. He really cares for your grade. Would definitely take again!
This professor truly cares about the subject he lectures about. He doesn't put any grades on canvas; therefore I didn't know my grade throughout the semester. His tests are multiple choice, short answer, and essay. The essay he gives you before the test. He is very knowledgeable and all of the information can sometimes be overwhelming.
Must study for tests. If you're having trouble sleeping, take his 3 hour night class and I'm sure you'll fall asleep just fine. If you already hate history, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He knows what he's talking about but it was the most boring class of my life. Also, he grades your essays for English more than content which pissed me off.
Herman is a Great professor, He knows everything to know about History. Gives 4 tests that he reviews before and gives plenty of handouts. He writes the notes on the board and talks about them during the class period. Very respectful and interesting class!
Dr. Herman really knows his history! His class is like story time. No homework other than 3 papers. The papers are only 1000 words, because he puts short answers and an in-class essay in the 4 tests. The final exam is not cumulative. Instead, it is simply on the last unit. Show up and you will get an A.
He is a good teacher, lectures you like you're his friend. He makes learning easy and fast, would take again!
The class consists of 4 tests and 2 papers. For the tests, he provides a terms list as a study guide, though many of the terms never actually appear on the tests. Also, he grades papers for grammar rather than for content and cracks down harshly on citations. Though his lectures are long, his enthusiasm keeps the material interesting.
Best History teacher I've ever taken. Very respectful, straight-forward. Long lectures but if you enjoy History your time will fly. He is there for you! Knows your name from the very first class, and treats every student like they are all special and important. Easy tests: he lets you know what to expect and gives reviews. Definitely take him!
Loved this class. Prof. Herman is a great teacher. He really cares about his studenst & helps any way he can. Very clear about study material & what is expected for tests (4) & papers (3). Also gave extra credit. You don't have to go to class, but if you don't, don't expect to pass.
Dr. Herman is an amazing professor!! I would highly recommend him. I usually found history classes to be boring and long, but Dr. Herman makes the class fly by with his amazing lectures! He always has a smile on his face and connects to the students on a personal level. There are 4 tests and about 3 essays. He reviewes for tests and gives sources!
Doctor Herman is very organized and structured in his lectures and his notes that he puts up on the board. The tests follow the same structure as the notes from the lectures, which makes the the multiple choice questions easy. Dr. Herman gives really good criticism on the three essays that are due. Dr. Mark Herman is an outstanding professor.
I took Mr. Herman this semester for world history 1023. He is very caring, and teaches very well. you will learn a lot in his class . Easy A just study notes and show up for test.
I took him for WOH 1023 and i would recommend him again. Jut study the notes and you will be set.
Although it's not my case I am sure that if you attend Dr. Herman's lectures with at least the disposition to pay attention you will walk out inspired. This man is passionate about his work and he shows it. 350 characters are too few to express how happy I am I took his class but I can tell you that you'll be doing yourself a favor by doing so.
Amazing professor. Highly recommend.
Great
Dr. Herman is one of those professors that you will never forget. He will always greet you at the door and remember the smallest things you tell him. I always looked forward to his class because he was so excited to teach and he had such a friendly personality. Just study your notes and you will be fine. He helps you pass as much as he can.
Dr. Herman was by far my favorite professor I've had at FSW thus far. You know how some professors lecture on and on but none of it prepares you for the tests? Not Dr. Herman, he gives clear, concise information and only what is vital to the test. He is interesting, enthusiastic, and he cares about the success of his students. Notes are key.
Dr. Herman is extremely knowledgeable and has a passion for history. He prints handouts which helps you figure out the important information. This class is heavy in writing and he knows everything so make sure your work is up to standard. He is a cool guy and never hesitates to answer all questions and he has a sense of humor!
I'm going to miss this class. Took the course for summer A. Dr. Herman knows his stuff. He's extremely knowledgeable and his lectures are far from boring. Take notes, study the handouts, and you are good to go! He'll go over key material that will be on the test. 4 tests and 2 essays. The tests also have short answer responses and 1 essay. Study!
Phenomenal professor. It is evident that history is his passion. His lectures are so alluring and inspirational. He gives you hints on upcoming test questions and basically holds your hand throughout the entire grading criteria. There are 2 essays and 4 tests. No excuse as to fail this class. He explains everything in great detail. A+.
I love Dr. Herman! He makes an effort to get to know you and will ask you every day how you are and actually means it. Tells you exactly what you need to know for tests and gives you resources for your papers. Such a nice guy and what a great professor. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Herman loves history and makes it evident with his incredible lectures. Write down everything he writes on the board and study it, as his tests are taken directly from his notes. He gives great feedback on papers and genuinely takes interest in getting to know his students. Highly recommend and would absolutely take one of his classes again!
Knowledgeable professor, gives you handout and covers it in class so get ready to highlight and take notes. Study for his class if history is not your subject. He cares, gives good feedback on your test and essays. He is accessible outside of his class during office hours. This course included 2 essays and 4 tests.
His lectures are great and he is very understanding if situations occur and will do his best to help you out. You don't need the book, just study the notes he writes on the board and his handouts and you'll get an A. You write 3 papers for the semester, but they are not difficult topics, and he will help if you contact him outside of class.
Amazing professor.
Dr. Herman is a very straight forward professor. He gives you a key term list at the beginning of the semester & sticks to it throughout each unit. Each class he has notes on the board and then he further explains them. Tests are usually 35 multiple choice, 2 short answer questions, and 1 essay question. Also requires 3 1000 word essays.
Professor Herman is a great professor who cares about his students. The test material comes from a term list that is handed out at the beginning of the semester. There are only 3 essays with very straight forward topics and 4 tests with material from handouts given in class. Many extra credit opportunitiesto raise your grade.
He is quite literally the best history professor I have ever had. As a STEM guy there is no way I thought I could become interested in history, but he somehow made that happen! He gives you very logically put together notes and he tests you on them. What a great guy!
Professor Herman is kind, funny, and an awesome professor. Do NOT buy the textbook (and I always usually get the textbook) , he gives you handouts and notes. Three papers of 1000 words and 4 tests. If you study the handouts and notes, you will pass. Not a phone Nazi, even though I did not use my phone (those other students though...) Cool guy.
I loved this class. He was a great professor and kept the class interesting. He didnt use canvas, everything was handed in class. The only homework was studying for the test and the 3 out of class papers spread out over the course of the semester. I hope to take another class of his!
There are only 3 essays, 4 test, and about 2 extra credit opportunities. He doesn't use canvas and everything is based on things discussed in class. You get lots of handouts and notes. History isn't a subject I'm the best at and it was made even worse considering nothing about the lectures were interesting. But he will do anything to help a student
The best professor. I wish he taught all my classes. I have never wrote a review, but Hermen deserves one he is that awesome. Take him period.
Such an amazing professor, he is so caring and really wants you to learn what he is teaching. He has a passion for what he does and you can clearly see that. I also wish he taught other classes because he is amazing.
Professor Herman will give you all the resources you need when it comes to taking his class. Study the study guide he gives you, and also pay attention to the notes he writes on the board. Textbook is not needed, well I didn't need it at all! The study guide and notes got me through the class!
Great history professor. Test and assignment expectations are very clear. He makes sure that you have everything you need to pass. Feel free to ask questions in his class.
He genuinely wants you to learn. He gives you everything that you need to know for the tests. Do your best on the papers, and he gives great feedback on tests and papers. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
He has four test and three 1000 word essays, study the terms and the notes from him for the tests and you'll pass, he is a fair grader on the essays. He truly cares for his students and wants them to learn.
Professor Herman's lectures and handouts closely reflect test content and are good resources for writing essays and short responses. He also provides good, constructive essay feedback during office hours. A great professor all around.
Dr Herman is one of the best Professors I have ever taken. Lectures are interesting and relevant. Tests come directly from the lectures and handouts, not from the textbook. The class had 4 tests and 3 Essays. Tests are a mix of multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions. I would definitely take this professor again.
Amazing professor!!!!!
Hes a good profesor but you only get 7 assignments which yeah is less work but leaves no room for a slip up.
Best professor I've ever had! There are no surprises: 4 tests and 3 essays. He will give you all the handouts and information you need and always strives to help students. As long as you pay attention and read the handouts you'll pass with a good grade. Highly recommend for students who history is not their best subject, or you wanna learn more.
He is a very fair and interesting teacher. Do good papers and he will grade you well. The materials and notes taken in class will be enough to pass tests. He is fair and understanding. I learned a lot in his class, and I think he does well making history understandable. I really liked this class even though I am not so great at history.
Book not needed 4 test 3 research papers multiple-choice test is worth 70 pts and you must do an essay as part of the test which is 15 pts a map identification 10 pts and 2 answers 5 pts all these to add 100 pts. I would do good on my test and my map but he deducted pts from the essay to lower my grade and gives me bad grades on my papers.
Best professor Ive had, really makes the subject interesting even if history isnt your thing. A lot of notes but the notes are very clear and useful. He actually cares what grade his students get and will help you out with anything.
One of the best teachers I've had at FSW. He honestly cared how you were doing and would try to give you every point possible on tests. The lectures had all the information needed for the test and pointed out certain things to help you know what to focus on. History was not my subject, but I would definitely take this class again.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is really funny and good at history. Like you can give them any event and he will tell you the exact date and everything. He is really on of those professors who are extremely respectful and knows what they teach. Smart guy I must say and extreme respected. Lectures are entertaining and makes jokes
His lectures were not very well put together. Unorganized. His class notes were all over the place so it was hard to grasp exactly what each lesson was about. Only assignments were essays and quizzes, so not very many opportunities to save your grade if you don’t do well on quizzes.
I'm not a good history student, but this professor made things so easy to learn and retain. He was clear on expectations, and is an expert in his field. Would definitely take him again!
Dr. Herman is a great professor. He gives you 4 tests and 3 essays. That's all he gives you throughout the semester. Study as much as you can he highlights the sections that will be on the test. Mainly memorization, but understanding the topic would be even better. No final exam. Since he grades by few things, it is mandatory that you study hard!
Dr Herman is a great professor, he grades work very quickly and always gives feedback. He is really kind and cares a lot about his students. Lectures can be long, but overall easy work if you manage your time well.
Professor Herman is an amazing educator. Everything he teaches, he teaches with passion and lots of research so he makes sure he knows what he is talking about. His assignments are both simple and educational. He wants to see his students succeed in his class. I 100% recommend you take him, he's also got a great sense of humor!
If you enjoy history or want a prof who will help you ace a course then you need to go with Dr. Herman! He lets you know exactly what to expect from exams and even offers sources for the papers you write! Definitely a spicy pepper!
Dr. Herman is great. He goes over all the material on the tests. He doesn't put any trick questions or questions that he hasn't covered on the tests. The writing assignments are not hard. Overall, he's a good professor.
It was honestly a privilege to take Professor Herman's class. It is clear that Professor Herman enjoys the work that he does, which only made me feel even better for choosing his class. He provides the materials you need in order to be successful on your essays and exams. If you study well, you'll have no problem with the tests.
Dr Herman was an amazing history professor. He was the first professor I've had that has made learning history not miserable. He gives you EVERYTHING that will be on the test on a highlighted study guide, and he lets you know what all essay promts will be far in advance. He wants you to pass with a high grade, and, if you do the work, you will.
A cute old guy who loves history and sports. He will help you learn and improve your grade in anyway. Makes lectures fun and not too boring, Knows his material, has his own notes to teach, easy and simple class. 3 1000 word essays and 4 tests are the only assignments u will do, accepts late work,w/penalty, and offers extra credit at the end of sem.
Truly an inspiration. Dr. Herman is part of that group made of amazing professors. see him as a "retired Indiana Jones kinda guy". His knowledge is amazing, and the way he delivers his lecture is amazing. the test are a little heavy but if you read and re-read and do some flash cards.. you will be just fine.
Not bad at teaching but doesn't give a rubric for essays. Can't know exactly what he is looking for in a perfect paper until after you receive a grade and gives minimal, generic feedback. Gave me 10 point late penalty deduction for a paper for submitting it 10 minutes late...all due at 2pm on Wednesdays..tests and essays and that'll be your grade.
Update on previous review- he just said my essay was not due by the 2pm deadline so late penalty was applied yet he did not acknowledge anything I mentioned about not having a rubric or sufficient feedback to know what exactly he is looking for in a good paper.
Really nice professor, it is not an easy class, very test and essay heavy. You can tell Dr.Herman really enjoys teaching but he is a tough grader especially on essays.
He will not give DE students anything above a B, and will never give feedback on how to do things to receive a higher grade. On numerous occasions I asked for feedback on my essays and tests, and nothing ever came from it. He is extremely subjective when it comes to essay grading and refuses to provide rubrics or specific issues presented.
HIGHLY RECOMENDED! Dr. Herman is the best! I took his mini-A this summer and passed with an A. As long as you listen and study for the tests, you'll do fine. I honestly wish the class didn't end so quickly, I learned so much and loved learning about the fun facts, especially the history behind many of our everyday words. Thank you, Professor!
The man loves to accuse you of cheating when you spent almost two whole days on an essay and not just once but twice with zero backing and gave me two zeros on both of them with no evidence
I'm a hardworking student, and he is a horrible professor. He reads off a document with all the information highlighted. His tests are on inconspicuous little irrelevant details and very few on the actual civilization of the world. Mind you, your grade is only 3 essays and 4 tests. He gives no rubric and accuses you of plagiarism with no proof.
Professor Herman's WOH1023 class is a must-take! He's passionate and makes the material engaging. The workload is manageable - just stay on top of readings and study hard for tests. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for my exam prep. Definitely recommend this class!
The professor is amazing at what he does. Sure, he does read directly from the book but, he does give a summary of the chapters and allows people to write down notes at good times. He does give extra credit, which should be taken. The essays are extremely easy. The tests are not as easy but, with some studying, it's an easy "A" you'll get.
This professor HATES dual enrollment students. I took his class with two others, and after talking ONCE about getting home, he had it out for us. His essay grading is unfair, one bad grade, no A; feedback is useless, and his lectures? Just reading off slides with “key details” that don't make sense. If you're dual enrollment, AVOID his class!
