Mark is an amazing prof! If you are unsure about anything he is more than willing to clarify. He provides amazing tools for students to use for prepping for midterms and finals. He keeps things simple and gives examples during class so everything you learn you will fully understand. An incredible professor who made me love psyc.
He is by far my favourite prof! His lectures are very interesting! I am always surprised when class is over because it goes by so fast. I always wish class was longer because I enjoy the material and the way he presents it. All examples that are used in this course are very relatable and modern which helps me make connections to the material.10/10
Really great! Definitely recommend. Pay attention in his lectures and study hard and you will do great. He puts in a lot of effort for students to do well but you still need to work for it. Fair tests. Takes a little while to get marks back.
This man is the most beautiful, kind soul I have ever witnessed in my existence. Changed the final exam from cumulative to just the last few chapters. An angel is among us bois
He is clearly passionate about Pyschology and that makes class a lot more enjoyable. He explain things with a tremendous amount of detail and you won't get lost for one second. His powerpoints are all you need to do well on the exam. He is relatable, funny, and overall an amazing prof!
He is a great prof , Uses a lot of examples to help you understand the material and also makes it enjoyable
One of the best psychology profs I've had! He makes lectures really interesting and is very clear about material that will be on exams. Cares lots about the students and is willing to alter the course to fit requests of students (i.e. during busy weeks he will extend deadlines and make exams smaller to help out). Overall just an awesome prof
Dude is sweet. Really invested lecturer and seems genuinely interested in making sure all his students do well. Personally found the exams to be the easiest thing ever.
absolutely love this guy! he's hilarious and is always enthusiastic when it comes to teaching. he tries to deliver the info in the best way possible loved this class!
Best prof to start my UCalgary experience with! So passionate about the subject and seems genuine - makes you want to come to his lectures. Provided us with great study guides and practice questions. Pay attention to the slides and you will ace the midterms and final. (I definitely wouldn't bother buying the textbook.)
Mark Holden genuinely seems to care about the success of his students and actively works to provide an engaging lecture environment. He employs techniques to make material memorable, which is useful considering that doing well in the course is highly contingent on your memorization skills. Tests are specific, but very fair.
Hands down best the professor, the class itself was very easy already but Mark made it so much more easy and enjoyable!!! Easy A. I could tell that he is very passionate about what he does and his great enthusiasm will hook you right into the topics! 10/10 take any psych with him!
Hands down best prof ive had so far. Easy A
Mark knows cognitive psychology very well and is very passionate about it, which makes the class that much more interesting. He's funny and understanding, extending deadlines if need be and accommodating for unforeseen circumstances. His lecture slides are also very well organized and his demos done in class are helpful to learning the material.
SO AMAZING. Genuinely cares about his students and is there to help you pass. Can be a bit slow in marking but does that even matter when all assignments were easy As anyway? Definitely recommend.
An honestly great prof. I always attended lectures since he's entertaining. Didn't pay attention most of the time, but when I did the info really stuck. Looks a little rough some mornings but it adds to the camaraderie with him as you both suffer through mornings together.
Dr. Holden was a great lecturer and made class enjoyable by telling stories and allowing us to make the concepts more relatable. His slides provided most of the info covered, however it was important to go to class as there were many questions on specific videos or cases we discussed in class not included in the lectures.
No complaints & no praises from me. A solid choice if you're worried about taking a class with him.
By far the best professor I've had the pleasure to be in the class of. Presentations are fun, made with care and accuracy, and cover most of the material needed to write tests. The professor tries to relate to the students by telling fun stories or sharing hilarious tips on how to memorize material. Hope to get him again next year! :)
Mark is a truly good professor that cares about what he teaches. Lectures are not mandatory, but contain a lot of examples that are useful. Has crappy jokes that make you chuckle. Thoughtful when answering questions and always specific. 3 tests, 50 questions multiple choice, and a few very easy assignments.
Proffesor Holden is hands down the best prof i have had from the pscy department. you could tell right from day one that he genuinely cares about his students and their success. he makes lectures very interesting by giving good examples and telling funny jokes and the material itself was very interesting as well
Mark is a truly AMAZING professor. This is my second class with him (first was PSYC 411) and I can honestly say that him (and of course Melissa Boyce) are the absolute best professors in psychology at U of C. He is incredibly kind, funny and relatable. He cares so much about his students and is always looking for ways to ensure your success!!
Holden is a solid choice of a professor. Has a few fill-in the blanks on his slides, but not many. If you attend class, and pay some attention, it's an easy A. He has some bad dad jokes, and tries to keep you engaged. Mark is based off of participation in research, two midterms and a final.
Holden is by far the best prof I've had yet. His lectures are fun, engaging, and his slides are full of awful dad jokes to get you to remember the content. He's a hilarious dude who genuinely cares about his students. Super down-to-earth, and will have you wanting to attend lectures. Would recommend to anyone
Honestly I hate this field of psychology he was teaching but Dr. Holden made it bearable and almost enjoyable. He covers the textbook well and he tells you which pages you have to read and he even provides a study guide for what you need to know. His tests are fair and the questions are easy if you keep up with the material.
Mark is hands down the best instructor I have had in the psychology department. He takes his role seriously and demonstrates exceptional knowledge of the material. Mark is confident and comfortable in teaching to the point that he is willing to explore student questions in a geniune form. Mark is a true teacher in the best sense of the word.
Amazing Prof. Just study your lecture notes and you'll do great!
BEST PROF EVER! This guy really knows how to teach! you will want to attend all his lectures cause he makes every topic so interesting! Easy assignments, tests and he is always willing to help! he knows how to explain topics perfectly ! Would take a class with him again!
Amazing. Hands down best prof I have ever had. His lectures are so easy to understand and he explains the material so it will stick in your head. His tests are fair and as long as you look over the notes you should do fine. I didn't even touch the textbook once for this class!! Assignments are also easy and don't take very long. 10/10
Probably one of the best profs I have had yet. Such interesting and relatable material plus he makes it funny and enjoyable to learn. Honestly didn't have to go to lectures if I wanted to but I went most of the time just because I enjoyed his lectures so much.
Mark makes psych extremely enjoyable! Easy to listen to, keeps students engaged, and uses power-points and helpful videos to get his point across. Honestly so glad I took it with him.
Second class taken with Mark and he did not disappoint. Quite honestly the best prof Ive ever had. Does everything in his power to help his students and make sure they succeed. Cant wait to take another course with him.
Lectures are slightly heavy but manageable, better than reading the textbook. Don't really have to go to class since he bases his exams on just the lecture notes. Put the effort in to know concepts and the slides and you'll get an A.
This course could have been awful, but he did an awesome job. The labs were a lot of work but boost your grade. Two midterms and a fair marker - goes over the midterms in class as the final is cumulative. Keeps students engaged when lecturing and is great at answering questions. I wish there were practice questions other than the practice midterm
Dr. Holden is a really great professor, you can tell he really cares about his students. His lectures can be dry but the tests are very fair, if you study the lecture slides you'll do fine.
Mark was an amazing prof. His lectures were enjoyable and kept you engaged!
He is a caring prof that is willing to meet with you and explain things for you to understand them. I was impressed by how he much he cares about making time for his students (all the while he was teaching 4 courses!)
Mark is a prime example of the perfect professor. Engaging lectures, tons of study materials, easy-going, honestly wants everyone to do well. Makes all the other teachers I have had seem so bad.
He's one of the best profs I've had so far in Uni. He makes lectures engaging and entertaining, even when the content was a little dry. With him as my prof, three-hour lectures felt like 30 minutes. He's flexible and understanding and genuinely wants his students to do well. I fell in love with Psychology because of him.
AMAZING- LOVE this Prof ! By far the best. He wants students to succeed, enjoy his class, to be highly engaged. Great prof, he is also a wonderful, compassionate human being. Truly cares for his students. Accessible via email, booking appointments. He supplies clear , concrete, positive feedback. Know your slides, participate. Taken in Spring.
Mark is one of those profs who make early morning lectures fun. He is incredibly funny, uses lots of examples to help his student understand course material, and genuinely cares about his students. He does give out many assignments, the course itself is pretty test heavy, but his tests are fair and only cover what are on the slides.
He is the best instructor I've seen so far! He doesn't just teach the class amazingly but also helps in any aspects of difficulties that you may have with the class. I believe he increases the university's quality. I wish I had him for my all courses.
BEST PROF AT UCALGARY HANDS DOWN. He really cares that you remember the material and he marks in a way that is best for you. He'll weight your worse grades less and your good grades more so that you'll do the best you can. That being said, his midterms aren't the easiest, but if you study and go to class, you'll be fine.
He is very interesting to listen too. Very kind and good to ask questions too. He is very reasonable and even took a assignment off the syllabus because he didn't want us to stress because exams are coming soon
Best prof I've had so far. Can get an A+ by paying attention in lecture. Super funny and explains things really well.
Mark is incredible! I can't stress enough how wonderful he is as a prof and I will recommend him to anyone wanting to take psyc courses. The content is dry and the class has potential to be painfully boring, but Mark's lecture style makes it feel fun and super interesting. Always has students' best interests in mind. Excellent prof, excellent human
Dr. Holden is a real gem and you can tell he loves what he teaches. He cares a lot about his students and throughout his lectures offers up easier ways to remember concepts. the class consists of: 2 midterms worth 25% each final worth 30% 4-5 small assignments (2 ish pages, short answer and fill in the blank) worth 16%
My favourite prof from my first semester at university. Cares so much about all his students and their grade in his class, made the final the least cumulative it could have been, which helped a lot because this course has a lot of material. Also gives decently easy assignments to boost grades and help further your learning.
My second class with Dr. Holden, and he's still such an amazing prof, one of the best at the University. He makes material really easy to understand and expands on slides in class, so lectures are mandatory in that sense. He is really open to questions over email and in class, and makes learning really enjoyable! Focus mainly on class material.
Mark Holden is the shining gem of the U of C. His lectures are informative, but also entertaining, and he actively takes the effort to connect with students in his lectures. He'll even ask you if you're doing alright and sit down to talk with you if you seem a little rough; he's a really rare character but a welcome one to be sure.
I love Dr. Holden! I was really nervous about taking statistics because I'm not great at math and you aren't allowed to have calculators during exams BUT he doesn't test on math, just on how well you know the concepts. He met with me multiple times to help me understand the material and really wants his students to succeed. Best prof I've ever had.
What a stand up guy. Responded to all my emails so quickly. Told lots of jokes and stories in class to highlight concepts and gave us funny acronyms for study tips. 3 non-cumulative exams, 5 assignments you can find the answers for in the textbook, and 2% bonus possible through RPS credits. Reading text will help give you a few "gimme" pts on exams
Professor Holden is truly an incredible professor. He is engaging and funny, which makes it really easy to pay attention and learn. He shares a lot of acronyms and stories which are super helpful for studying, so you'll have to do very little on your own. The textbook was not necessary, simply go to lectures (which is a treat) and review the notes!
AN ANGEL SEND FROM HEAVEN!!! Literally the best prof ever. He will do everything in his power to help you succeed and truly cares about students. Makes 8am lectures interesting which in itself is a talent. Funny, caring and extreme relatable prof!!!
Truly amazing!!!!!!
Mark is not only incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches, but he is such a caring prof as well. He is extremely understanding, always replies to questions promptly, and makes exams very fair. He's also very reasonable with extensions and extra help. By far one of the better profs at this school!
Such an amazing prof definitely made me look forward to coming to his lectures. So passionate and makes the content super understandable. Lots of funny stories and helpful ways to remember some things and tries to make students life as easy as possible.
He is just *chef's kiss* I was so nervous about taking advanced stats but he made it dare I say enjoyable??? He makes you want to attend lecture and his expectations are beyond reasonable. He is so kind, truly cares about his students, and does everything in his power to help them succeed.
He's literally the best and most caring prof ever
Hands down, the BEST prof I have ever had in all 4 years of my undergrad at UofC. Ill be straight up, this guy deserves a 5.0 rating! His tests are extremely fair. Tip: READ LECTURE SLIDES & KNOW THEM PROPERLY. During the corona virus, he has helped the students way more than he probably shouldve, hes that CARING. Hes a funny guy, respect man!
Its literally impossible to even get below an A- with this man. He does everything in his power to help students succeed and is so good at teaching. He was sent from God. Only reason to skip his classes is if you were in a coma. This guy is so funny and makes class enjoyable.
Dr Holden clearly cares about his students. His teaching style is very lecture heavy, which is not my favourite but he makes classes enjoyable. He is very accomodating and flexible with all of his assignments and tests.
This is my second time taking a class with Mark. He is a great prof, and you won't regret taking this class with him. He's very understanding and caring, but some students seem to take advantage of this unfortunately. He makes it clear what the exams will be on, study the slides. You DO need to try in order to do well in this course.
Holden is the most caring and accommodating professor! Study the lecture slides and you'll do great. Some students seem to take advantage of his accommodating nature which is unfortunate, because he truly cares about is the success of his students. I'm a mature student but this class would be the perfect morale booster for young first years.
Dr. Holden is an absolutely amazing prof. His classes fill up quickly for a reason. He's kind and caring and makes 8 am lectures enjoyable. The course is very interesting and he makes it all the better by adding jokes and real-life examples. I would highly recommend going to class as he really expands upon the lecture slides while teaching.
Dr. Holden is a saint. Best prof out there hands down. He cares so deeply about students needs and doesnt just listen, but changes the literal course and evaluation methods according to honest feedback. He is also amazing at teaching, and funny. His methods are amazing
Mark Holden is amazing. He wants you to do well, he is easy to communicate with and if you need help for anything he will provide it. He is quick at getting back to students and makes learning the material easy. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. As long as you show up to class and take good notes you'll do great! If you can take him, DO IT
Dr. Holden is a gem! He is the most amazing prof I have ever had, I cannot recommend his class enough!
Professor Holden is an absolute gem! He helped me understand more and more about psychology in every class. He is super passionate about his job which makes his lectures fun to attend. He is also a very understanding and caring professor. I would 100% recommend any class with him to anyone!!
The most genuine professor, actually cares about students and delivers the content in a straightforward way while giving meaningful examples that could be applied to the concepts. He gave the entire class an A+ on our last assignment as we didn't have time to finish it.
Dr. Holden is so kind and really cares about his students. He wants everyone to do well and is really responsive to sensitive things like exam weights and assignment deadlines. It's a really easy course with him.
He is the best psychology prof to take. He has been so understanding, especially with the whole COVID-19 situation. I wish he taught all my psych classes. He definitely cares about his students and makes adjustments for us. I 100% recommend you take his class.
You've heard the rumours, and they're true. Holden is a god among PSYC profs.
Hes great!
He's so wholesome! The transition to online classes was smooth, and his lecturing style will never bore you! He helps you LEARN about psychology, not just memorize facts.
Literally such a gem. Actually cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Class is standard, some assignments and your usual midterms/final. Seriously can't say enough good stuff about this guy. Hands down one of the best profs at uofc. Textbook isn't necessary and neither is attendance but his lectures are so good that you want to go.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are engaging, he makes sure to give you all the tools to make memorization easier, his grading is as fair as it gets and he answers your emails quickly. If you can, please don't miss the chance to take a course with him.
I don't ever rate profs. But this guy is amazing, he genuinely wants his students to do well. He provides practice midterm questions, and provides feedback after an exam. He gives hints in class for exam questions so it is a good idea to go. If you can, take a class with him.
Dr. Holden is my favourite professor at UofC. He is approachable and gives lots of tips and tricks to help with difficult concepts. Was not a fan of the lecture being at 8 am, but he made it totally worth it. He cares a lot about his students and is super understanding to students needs. I hope he keeps teaching at UofC!
YES YES YES. his questions were sometimes unnecessarily tricky to make the average a bit low I think, but all the grudges I have through the exams just melted away during the lecture. so again YES YES YES.
His tests are complete garbage but he's awesome.
What a hero. Kindest, most compassionate prof I've ever had the chance to learn from. Lectures were incredible, he made it so that we never even had to use a textbook. Tests were sometimes a bit more tricky but got curved. He is the epitome of a prof who wants his students to succeed. Wish he could teach all my classes!!!
The best Prof at U of C. Every chance you have to take a class with Holden, do it. Really helpful guy, available outside class. He has very entertaining lectures and his tests are manageable if you study 10/10
Really nice guy, makes lectures very entertaining despite the fact that the material is boring. He is extremely kind and wants his students to do well. Approachable in class, sucks are responding to emails quickly, and his tests are kind of hard - but he curves them.
Best prof I've had so far in uni. Extremely funny and goes way put of his way to be helpful. Picked up my class after it was almost dropped and made it 10X better. I hope to take classes with him as many times as possible in the future.
Honestly when it comes to emails or questions he wont reply, and thats not even the part that has made this course hard. No, its not the material, he literally uploaded 6 hours worth of lectures 2 days before our first test, worth 25%. He doesnt reply to emails and his tests are 11/10 hard . Dont take his classes.
Holden is great, as my first year and first class in my major this winter, hes been so great I took a spring class with him too. Hes very passionate about what he teaches and he always makes his lectures interesting and meaningful. Im glad Ive had him for my first psych courses.
Dr. Holden is an above average prof. And like many others, Ive also found him pretty great for the first classes in my degree. He has the ability to relate to his students and teach some very complex concepts in a digestible way for those who are learning them, I also took a course this spring with him due to my experience in winter.
A great prof! Super helpful and understanding and especially good with the transition to online because of Covid-19. Quite a few assignments but they were never very long and typically very easy. Midterms were pretty easy as well though the final was a touch more difficult being online. Overall a great prof!
One of the best profs out there. Such a nice guy. HIGHLY recommend. His exams are the best; he marks them humanely and wants you to actually learn/apply the material rather than simply regurgitate memorized facts. He is really special. Really enjoyable class with lots of cool things/experiments to learn.
His videos are great! His examples are so helpful and normally involve his family/Disney movies so its entertaining! but he does post a lot of things late, and takes forever to respond to emails. He did take some trips during my term though, so I don't think that is normal for him, so I would still highly recommend. But be on top of things in case
Honestly the MOST overhyped teacher at UofC. Yes he is the most caring professor who is respectful and accommodating for his students, so as a person he's a gem. However, his teaching is mediocre at best. Lectures are long and bland and always put up late. Not clear on what's being tested. His classes are interesting but not easy or GPA boosters.
Don't get me wrong Mark Holden is an excellent professor but his tests are unbelievable difficult. He basically gives you minute per question and those questions require some thinking/clinical analysis. His exams are hard but the lectures are very interesting. As an individual, he is a gem. By far the most disastrous GPA booster I took so far.
Mark Holden is just awesome, his lectures were entertaining, he is very considerate towards students and you could tell he is extremely passionate about the courses he teaches!
He is one of the best profs I've had. I had a problem with my school account and couldn't access any course material days before a midterm and he sent me all the documents I may have needed the day I emailed him. He also changed our final from cumulative to just the last few chapters when switching from in person to online because of covid.
Most helpful I have had so far. A very nice person who is willing to help you achieve you're goal - like he's not here to hand out Ds to half the class. If you put in the work you will see results. 100% fair - the tests do have some tricky questions though because it is a psych class BUT if you pay attention you'll be fine.
This guy is the bomb. Really cares about his students and is clearly passionate about the material. Explains difficult concepts well. His tests are fair. Anticipating an A based on the marks I've gotten back thus far. Listen to the lectures and take good notes.
He's so nice. I hate math but had to take this stats course with him (at 8am! ugh) and he somehow made me enjoy class. He cares a LOT about his students and just wants everyone to succeed. He explains things really clearly and is super helpful if you need support outside of class. Love taking his class, would definitely recommend.
Very good person. He cares a lot about his students and has been very good for the online environment. unlike other profs.
I was beginning to feel super burnt out, but Dr. Holden's teaching pretty much fixed that. The lectures are always super interesting, partially because you can tell how passionate he is about the topic. This is also one of the few classes that helps prepare you for graduate level research. I highly recommend it!
One of the best profs out there. Lectures are great in person and online. You can tell he's passionate about teaching and loves what he teaches. The projects are interesting and engaging. His tests are very fair, although they take a while to complete.
As a first-year student, he made it so much better. He is passionate about psychology and his teaching style reflects that. He isn't one to use the textbook as his lectures cover all and more than the textbook. Lectures are interesting even during this at-home class thing. Super understanding and cares for your mental health. Easy assignments too.
Dr. Holden was an excellent professor throughout online. He was accommodating, listened and adjusted according to student concerns, and had a very fair grading scale. The class had 4 tests and 3 assignments which was a very manageable balance which allowed for improvement in case of a poor grade. His classes were engaging and very interesting.
Holden is truly a wonderful man and really did his best when it came to adapting to online learning. I found the tests to be very scenario-based and complex for the short amount of time we had and a lot of people struggled with that. His lectures were long, but the PowerPoints had everything he said. Overall he was a good teacher!
Dr. Holden is INCREDIBLE! His lectures are amazing and detailed and he gives concrete examples that are really helpful. His tests are definitely fair. I found he explained content well enough that I didn't rely too heavily on the textbook, but I would still recommend it. If you get the opportunity, definitely take a class with him! He is amazing!
Four exams throughout the course (no final) which I appreciated, but I found the exam questions quite difficult in terms of the wording of scenarios. The lectures are asynchronous; Holden is personable and great to listen to, the class demonstrations don't translate to online and I imagine overall the course would be better in-person. Still solid.
Yet again, professor Holden has exceeded expectations. He is just an incredibly genuine guy, cares so much about students and explains with relatable and concrete examples. The online format doesn't do his lectures justice, but if you show up with a good attitude you'll for sure get something out of the class. Rent the textbook online (if at all).
I do not usually rate professors but professor Holding exceeds all expectations, having all qualities you would put into the perfect teacher. I was incredibly unwell with COVID symptoms and unable to work for over a week, he was quick to email, understanding and polite as well as letting me complete work when I was well. 10/10 Professor.
I love this class! Holden clearly loves the material, and it translates in the online lectures. I like that he posts the powerpoint on d2l and then uses in the lecture, so if I miss something, I don't have to rewind the video, or I can copy it down beforehand. He also gives a good amount of assignments (not too many, not too few). Would recommend!
Dr. Holden is one of the most amazing professors I have encountered during my university experience! He was incredibly accommodating and kind during a personal rough patch and went out of his way to ensure I was doing okay. He truly cares about his students and is a gem at the university. I highly recommend taking a course with him at least once :)
As usual, Holden is a gem. The tests were fairly straightforward, and the labs aided in preparing you for any written parts on the tests. The labs also have super detailed instructions, and the TA Alberto is super nice and funny and gives good feedback. Lectures could go a little long sometimes, but other than that it was a nice course!
I wanted to like this class and heard great things about Dr. Holden but I didn't have a good experience with him. Lectures were sometimes uploaded right before tests which made it hard to study, and I sent multiple emails throughout the semester and never heard back. Definitely not a gpa booster class if it's still online.
My favourite prof from this sem! Dr. Holden does a fantastic job of explaining concepts and uses modern examples that make everything easy to understand. That said, his tests are tough with quite long questions; I really had to work for my grade. Make sure you study everything, take advantage of the easier assignments, and email when you need help!
I had the absolute honour of taking my first psychology class with Prof Mark Holden starting in Fall 2021 and Im being completely honest when I say Im sad its has come to an end. He is so understanding and accommodating to each and every student and will make you love psychology. His tests are fair and assignments very easy!!You'll enjoy it:)
The best lecturer and even online is really easy to listen to, you can really tell he loves what he does and that makes all the difference. Tests were a bit tricky but he gave reviews which were super helpful and it was an online course so I thought the level of difficulty was very fair. Overall just really caring and genuine.
Dr. Holden's lectures were very long and I feel like I would have been more engaged in them had the class been in person. I had a hard time sitting and listening to his lectures, and to be fair I didn't put in as much work as I normally do for his class. His quizzes are definitely on the tougher side and you need to put in the work to do good.
Every class I've taken with Holden has been great! His lectures are always super interesting and he gets the point across very well. I do however prefer his in-person format compared to online, because online felt a little disconnected, but with the circumstances his class was still great! Tests and assignments are easy as long as you study well.
Dr. Holden is the GOAT!!! I had him in Fall 2019 but just remembered to rate him lol. I dont know about online but in-person hes a gem!! All you need is his notes and his style of teaching makes it really easy to remember stuff from his lecture. Its been 3 years and I still remember acronyms he taught. Amazing Prof!
Professor Holden was my favourite during online classes, he really tried to be engaging and obviously has a passion for his field. You are graded by a few things but he will help you out if you show improvement and really work hard. Would definitely take his class again
Really passionate about psychology and it shows in his lectures. Very accommodating towards his students and will always review his quizzes in case anything was wrong and will likely boost your grade that way. Giving him a 4 cause it was hard to stay focused during his asynchronous lectures. I assume he would be a 5 if it was synchronous.
Very good professor. It may have been a bit hard to pay attention to asynchronous lectures, but that in no way is Mark's fault, it's just the nature of online lectures. The class was not too difficult, and Mark really gives you the time of day and puts in effort to make his lectures entertaining.
Anything on tests will be said in lectures so you have to pay attention. Test questions are application based so just understanding the concept and knowing your vocab isn't always enough. Best to imagine and apply examples. As a prof, he's a wonderful person and very caring.
He is AWESOME!! Cares about you. The TA marks amazingly. Unfortunately we did not have him for the last 2 tests for reasons so we had a new prof. He is awesome tho!!
Amazing prof! Super caring/accommodating. Good lectures, can get a bit boring but I think that's just online school. Activities, videos etc are incorporated to try and make lectures more engaging. I found the tests fairly difficult in terms of wording, but still very fair. Assignments are fun/easy and can boost your grade! Overall awesome class.
Dr. Holden is so caring and really makes his students feel like his equals. Prompt at answering emails and lectures were interesting, but test require the application of knowledge to situations and not just memorization, so make sure you know your content well. Other professors could really learn from him....he's the best.
Best prof I've ever had! Just be ready to take lots of notes because he does not use the textbook. He explains everything so well you don't we have to study for the midterms as long as you attend class regularly and take notes of all the examples he uses. His grading so super fair and is super considerate to those who are going through hard times.
Holden is a great prof! He is clearly passionate about what he teaches and is super caring and engaging with his students. I will say that his exams can be quite tricky though, so make sure you nail the study guides because the exams make up the majority of this course.
Amazing prof with amazing lectures and fair tests.
Professor Holden is by far one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure to be taught by. His lectures are well-constructed and, most importantly, very engaging. He never assigned textbooks with the intention to save students some money. Overall, I strongly recommend taking a class with him!
Simply the best professor.
Wow. Just wow. I never expected for an option class to be so enjoyable. The only bad reviews this guy has are people putting in zero effort. He puts up study guide, tests are true to them, assignments are open book use the slides, and his lectures are so worth going to at 9am. Take a class if you can he is amazing!!!!!
Holden is an amazing prof- great speaker, and doesn't explain things in complicated terms, but instead explains concepts in ways that you could even apply to your own life. When he gives lectures, it feels like your friend studying with you, someone who is reliable and relatable. Psych wasn't for me, but I wish more professors like him existed.
Incredibly engaging lectures, and fairly straightforward and easy content. Holden explains concepts in a very passionate and easy to follow manner. Tests and assignments follow are a breeze if you put in the time to study. He is very open to questions, and easy to reach out to after class.
Dr. Holden is a wonderful professor. He shows that he really cares about teaching students, and is compassionate towards students struggling. His lectures were very entertaining and I hope I have him again!
Dr. Holden is a great professor. He is one of the few that actually wants to teach instead of do research which shows in his lectures. He has high enthusiasm and clearly explains concepts. I would highly recommend. This course is very interesting and very easy - exams are all multiple choice and there is no final. Assignments are a breeze!
From the first lecture, you can tell clearly tell how much students matter in the class, and the mutual respect and importance expected for everyone
Took his class in Winter 2023 so this is late but after making it out of my third semester with some awful profs it reminded me how great he was. Did minimal studying for the exams and got an A+ on all just from showing up to all the lectures and reviewing the slides. He is incredibly fair with the exam questions and wants his students to succeed.
The best prof I've had in my four years of uni. He really knows how to teach and not just talk, and delivers course material in a very interesting and clear way. Definitely recommend to take one of his classes even if you don't major/minor in psychology.
Professor Holden is an engaging lecturer who wants his students to succeed. Minimal studying is needed for his exams, and apps like unstuck AI can help with prep. Definitely take his class if you can!
