Somewhat unorganized, but his exams are not very hard. Overall, a decent professor.
Ingram is an experienced professor, as he has taught CPA review classes, and college level accounting for many years. However, he is always very busy. Clear lectures for pretty difficult material. His tests are very easy compared to other professors in this subject. I recommend this guy.
He is a great teacher. He lectures extremely well! Attend EVERY class!you will actually leave understanding the material well. He gives clear handouts that you can read instead of the book. Doing the HW after it won't be difficult at all. I Strongly recommend him!
OUTSTANDING Professor-knows how to teach! You WILL learn from him. Lectures are intense but 100% informative, clear, concise. Only drawback is that he is always so busy you never feel as if he really has time to help if needed. The subj. is challenging by nature & he cuts to the important stuff.
good teacher, clear, straight to the point, excelent handouts, intense class. Attending class will really help. Exams are avg. Highly recomend him
2nd class was tonight... this is easily the most stressful class i have ever taken. he talks nonstop the entire time, barely pausing to breath. this makes the material very unclear. his handouts are in this old typewriter font that is impossible to read and he does not make them available electronically to download so they can be changed.
Some friends have told me his tests are hard but his tricks aren't that tricky. I know the final that all ACCT 301 students take was cake after his class. He's one of the few teachers that repeats the material so it soak in, basic teaching concept mason teachers can't comprehend. Good teacher, hard class.
The professor is knowledgable, but an important part of teaching is letting students ask questions and be available for them. The professor doesn't even slow down for questions, and when somebody raises hands, it takes him a while to notice. He is always so busy and rushes to other things after the class, so you can't even ask questions then.
Very condescending attitude towards students. Has this attitude like he hates teaching. He throws his stuff down angrily when he gets to class. Very political. Goes WAY too fast... Buchanan is harder, but I would rather have a teacher who has respectful attitude. To his credit, he DOES accept calls from students for help, though I never called him.
The class is really hard and the test are hard but he does curve. It is very true you can't ask questions in class. He goes way to fast that you can even ask questions. You have to call him, he does makes himself available over the phone. His notes are very helpful and you really need to study for his class and be prepare otherwise you will fail.
Very clear, and repeats important topics several times so it really soaks in. 2 projects, 2 quizzes, and 3 exams. Exams are difficult, but passable. He does curve. Read the text, go to class, do the h.w, and you should get at least a "B" Very fair, funny, and understanding guy.
Awesome Prof. Very responsible and makes stuff as clear as possible. Before i took him, I heard he has some attitude to students, but quite opposite, he is very knowledgeable, nice, smart and funny man. If wanna do good in the major class like 461, attend class, do hw before class, and study a little hard!
This guy is stupid.. he is not helpful at all. You can not ask him questions and he does not make him self available after class. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS!
Good prof. Very helpful. Explains things clearly, but does talk very fast. However, he does repeat stuff a lot. Make sure you do the HW, it will help you keep up with him. Multiple choice exams with a few problems. Easier than Buchanan, but since it is an upper level course, it is still pretty difficult. Overall, highly recommend!
Very smart guy and a fair grader. Not much personality but an effective instructor.
Alright Professor. Gives students his personal number. He can be contacted anytime. Fair grader. Talks really fast. Not much of a personality but knows what he's talking about. I've heard he's better then Buchanon.
WOW! i learned alot from this class (both in class and from the book) i like the fact he does not use Powerpoints he has his own note which is very helpful, he will go out of his way to explain something...(Phone) Take Him,
He's very nice prof, try to help students. 3 exams, 3 quizzes but drop the lowest one, 1 easy paper. The material is hard itself, and he knows what he's talking about. Do the problems will help you for the tests. Text book SUCKS, MUST BUY A STUDY GUIDE.
He is a great teacher who really knows what he is talking about. The class is hard no matter who you take...but he gives good handout notes.
I heard he is good at teaching financial accounting.
Great professor. He makes sure you understand the material and are well prepared for the exams. He can come off as gruff at times, but he knows the material, is accessible, and you'll come out a better student if you come to class, put in the work, and utilize the valuable materials and knowledge he imparts.
Great Professor. He has great sense of humour. He has given attention to every small things that confuses students. He breezes though the material quickly...so do homework before going to class. He posts all the homework solutions which is helpful in preparing for the exam. He is awesome and fair. The subject itself is hard. Good Luck
Don't take him. He rushes through the material, and doesn't teach the underlying questions that need to be asked. He expects you to spend 10 hours a week teaching yourself. Frankly, I thought that's what internet courses are for. He does provide answers to homework problems which does help, but those problems aren't asked on exams.
One of the better accounting professors I've had at this school. If you have read the textbook before class, it will not seem like he's rushing. This is college-of course you have to teach yourself outside of class. He even gives out his cell #, so if you don't really have an excuse to not do well.
Goes through materials so fast, and expect you to learn everything from the textbook. His notes only contain parts of the book, while the exam tests the whole book. He shows the solutions of questions for most the classes. It would be great if he can "do" the questions instead of reading the solutions
the material is Hard. I didnt think the teacher helped at all. He wants u to learn the material on ur own then come to class and be prepared to go over solutions that are posted online for chapters yet to be covered. He has a great personality but im not sure that will help u in the exam.
He's a nice guy but that's it! His lectures & notes were totally useless.
Professor Ingram knows what he is talking about, and is overall a good guy. Acct 433 Advanced Financial was tough.
Advanced Financial can be tough at times but Ingram is a good professor. His tests are very straight forward if you come to class and listen/take notes. Pay attention to the problems that he emphasizes in class and do them repeatedly to study for the tests. There is a good amount of material but Ingram is a nice guy and the class is manageable.
This class is HARD. You will definitely need to show up at every class. His office hours are once a week, so you better come prepared or fall behind. And if you do fall behind, you are screwed. I had to take this class twice because the exams are tough. But he does teach to his exams, and he does assign good classwork. Overall, very smart dude.
Ingram is without a doubt one of Mason's greatest professors. Yeah his class is hard, but it's a 400 level course so don't expect any less. His teaching style is terrific. Just goes to show how much he enjoys it :) Be prepared to work hard for his class. Read the book, keep up with his lecture notes & practice his assigned problems.
He pretty much does not want you to pass. He spends an hour talking about irrelevant information and then rushes through the actual material. If you ask him to go back to a slide, he won't because he encourages you to practice it before class. He is also very rude to students when they ask questions. I'm disappointed in this professor for my major.
Have to admitted this is one of the hardest acct class. But He is the worst Professor I've ever had. I went to his office hour ask question. He is so rude and didnt explain it clear. Boring and speak so fast. Don't take him.
Every class he will talk about the syllabus and explain next week, not the week of. Reads out of the textbook out loud and leaves about 20-25 minutes for "practice homework." Exams are super hard and those are the only things that count towards your grade. He won't tell you what topics to study on the exam while other acct. teachers do.
Teaches lectures directly out of the book, without PowerPoints or additional notes. Answers any and all questions in a condescending tone, which made me not want to ask questions. The exams are worded in a confusing way and he does not tell us what is going to be on the exams. Take someone else if possible, ACCT 301 is no joke.
You have to teach yourself the material, he won't. Instead, he will review the homework that he already gave you the answers for. Read the book, review anything you can online. This is a hard, hard class. Take a different elective if you can. Tests are right from the book material so READ THE BOOK.
ACC 301 is a HARD class, he does not make it easier. He provides some exercises solution and he explains in the class which is helpful but you MUST study very hard yourself. He does not like questions! Don't miss any class and study hard before and after! Definitely you will get C! Good luck
Ingram is very rude. Point______. In this class you have to be disciplined and teach your self what he tells you to go over. He's not helpful at all, so if you take him I recommend you take advantage of the ACC tutors. Good luck.
All he did was read his notes and show you answers. Never once did he explain why or how to do something. Worst accounting teacher Ive had. Studied a week straight for the midterm and got a 60%. AVOID HIM!!!
Poor guy - he's genuinely nice, but his lectures are just not effective at giving material. He doesn't use a powerpoint which makes class tough to follow and harder to learn from. Sometimes I found the book a better teacher then class because of my learning preferences. When asking questions, repeat yourself - sometimes he doesn't listen fully.
Prof. Ingram's style is not to explain the material, but to review and read the handout to you, and show you the solutions to the exercises. Had I known this, I would've taken the class at another time. Handouts have the topics that you are supposed to know, so study, study, study the handouts and the homework in Connect, exams are based on them.
Good professor. Acct 331 requires a lot of time! He will tell you this and you will not believe him until you fail the midterm and the final. Read the book and practice the problems! I had to retake this course with another professor and she was good too but half of the class always fails because Acct 331 requires a lot of time & practice.
Really a very intelligent man, and extremely knowledgeable. However, he doesn't really teach the material well in class. Outside of class, in a one-on-one situation, he's great. Basically, you have to teach yourself the material. Unless you are willing to go to his office hours on a regular basis.
He seems like a really nice guy outside of school, but in class he kind of comes off as a jerk. He teaches CPA prep courses so he is very smart. His way of teaching isn't exactly the best. He also doesn't make the exams and apparently doesn't look at them before the exam day. Which obviously doesn't help his students. I wouldn't take Ingram.
Prof. Ingram is very knowledgeable, but spends the first few mins of EVERY class telling you what is true for any 331 class, YOU have to put in the time to understand. He also talks fast. Make sure you complete classnotes ahead of class. Atlhough he takes a while to reply to emails, he is available within a reasonable amount of time.
I've never had to work so hard for any other class ever! pulled countless all-nighters and when I could go to sleep, "early" it was 2 or 3am. Take this class seriously it is 301 on steroids. Ingram will tell you over and over again to study and if you dont... you will be taking this class again.
By FAR the best prof for this class . He's old school and straightforward, not super nice but i wasn't there for entertainment , you need to pass this hard class where so many will fail , no joke . Way harder than other acc classes before but you can do it as i did and some of my peers. Take his class
A generally nice guy. Probably the worst accounting professor I've had. This shouldn't come as a shock given that almost every accounting professor at Mason is horrible.
Doesn't explain material. Reads the thick handouts to you and shows problem solutions w/o detailed explanation. Goes way too fast and is too passionate about ACC. Handouts have the topics that you are supposed to know and not as helpful. Study the handouts and Connect homework. Exams are crazy hard. Not the best professor around.
Ingram is very disorganized to put it nicely. He is not a good teacher and is not available to answer questions. He loses papers constantly and is incapable of answering questions because he can't think on the spot.
Prof Ingram really knows ACC. Exams made by the school . Compared to profs in before Acc classes he really knows ACC and his teachings help a lot but It's obvious he doesn't like to be interrupted by questions, so just pay 100% attention in lectures and TAKE NOTES!! He gives Good advices-Tips about exams, i appreciated his direct style & Honesty!
I am not going to leave subjective comment. Here is my take on his advance accounting class. Bunch of senseless text book problems that he does in class, total waste of time. No power point and no white board examples or explanations. Connect assignments are waste, it doesn't appear on exam. He talks and skips very very important points.
Ingram is a nice guy. With that said, he is no help with what is on the exams. Course wide average on test 1 was a 70% and test 2 was 65%. The tests are brutal. The subject is not hard.. but they make this extremely difficult. Don't skip class, you'll never see those notes again. He reads off the notes and can't ever tell you whats on the test.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He just flies through the lecture notes and does not appreciate when students don't automatically grasp the concepts. If you take him be ready to drop.
His teaching skills are very poor. Can't answer students in the spot. He says "see me after class" when you need to have clarification before move forward!! He can't make connections with students. He is disorganized with his notes instead of developing problems on the board, he opens and closes kind a little windows with the sticky notes! Frustrat
You should try to avoid his class if possible. If you have no choice, you should borrow your friend's lecture
i wrote some ok comments before about Ingram for acct 331 but I was somehow wrong . For Acct 332 he's a disaster. He makes mistakes in lectures himself but grades to the bone . Rely on yourself and study hard, if You did good in acc 331 you should do good in acc 332 too both classes are somehow similar in the level of difficulty
Professor Ingram is very intelligence and knowledgeable. I really don't understand that why many students complain about him. He prepares and explains very well all lectures. ACCT 311 & 332 are not easy. Very changeable classes. Do not expect that other professors will be easy. Intermediate accounting topics are very heavy and difficult.
It is not matter who is teaching you, it is matter how much you study hard. Accounting is never easy. Just study and study. You will get an A ! He is really good guy and nice professor.
Prof. Ingram might go a bit fast on some subjects, but he repeats what he said the following classes when he knows a chapter is more challenging. He gives handouts and goes step by step to solve a problem. The exams reflect exercises done in class, the practice problems(not connect), and handouts.
Ingram is a great professor. He does breeze through the material and you will, at times, feel like you're not processing any of the material, but the good thing is he goes over the material multiple times and summarizes what you've learned at the start of every class. Make sure you do the practice problems on blackboard.
He is an excellent professor who really wants you to succeed in the course & the profession. The book is verbose. But he focuses on the most important thing for an accountant - the debits & credits. He regularly updates you on blackboard about internships, jobs, & other opportunities. He is a rep of AICPA at GMU - the guy to talk to about CPA.
Focus primarily on the notes and practice sheets he gives in class as well as practicing connect assignments over and over again. His lectures are helpful for helping clear up anything you may be confused on. Exams were very fair and similar to what you practice on connect with some small twists but nothing that difficult. A great professor IMO.
Ingram is an amazing professor. The key to success in this class is to write down keep practicing the practice questions until you memorize them. He does go over the material very fast, but he will review the topics over and over at the start of every class. I highly recommend you take his class.
No recommend his class if you like thinking topics relate to real world. he doesn't like to answer questions that are not relate to test or lecture notes but still accounting. His lectures are very slow on easy topic and fast on hard ones. he posts lecture notes late and sometimes forgot to do it even after he sent out emails he did few days
It was the hardest class I took at Mason, but the professor made the material easier to understand. He also posted notes, exercises solutions, recorded lectures online, which was very helpful.
So long as you get all of the lecture notes in class you should be good. Mainly practice for the tests using the practice problems he submits online, those very closely resemble his tests.
Very good
A very respected and responsible professor. A tough grader, but he is a nice person.
I just got done with his advanced financial accounting course. He rambles a lot but overall you can tell he cares, more than other ACCT teaches at GMU. Shame I only had him for one course.
Prof. Ingram is a tough guy. He grades harsh but he literally gives you everything you need to know to do decent on exams. No surprises! Study his notes as those have been redeveloped for better learning for many years. To pass 433, do lecture notes, redo problems - both HW and class exericses and you will get a good grade. He goes off topic a bit.
HIS GRADING CRITERIA IS VERY GOOD.
I wish I could have had him in person. ACCT 332 is impossible to make easy, but Prof. Ingram knows how to prepare everyone for exams. He provides you with practice exercises and questions that are similar to the exams, tells you what will be tested, and tries to let you know that failing a test isnt the end of the world. Real down to earth dude
His online class using the modules and recorded lectures was amazing. study his lectures, do practice problems, do multiple choices he gives, and do the homeworks and you cant fail the exam, i didnt even need to read the book.
He provides guidance on how to do well on exams by recording lectures and giving us additional practice to do. I just didn't apply myself to redo the homework problems enough times to do well on the pre-exams, midterm exams, and the final exam. The case writing assignment has detailed instructions and is assigned towards the end of the semester.
He will give you lots of practice for the exams. Acct 332 is not an easy course, I just did all the practices which he gave to us, and got B+ in the end.
he provides good lecture notes but assumes you do nothing but study all day ("what else are you doing in this pandemic" -- uhh some of us have to work). also talks to you like you're 5 and rude when you ask questions. probably because he doesn't know the answer and relies on the same material he's taught for 100 years?
Professor Mark Ingrams always happy to help out his students. It doesnt matter what accounting class youre in. The textbook, powerpoints, videos, homework, and practice quizzes and exams all help you understand the material and prepare for actual quizzes and exams and maybe projects, if applicable. Earn respect.
I focused on practicing problems instead of reading the textbook to pass ACCT 332. The pre-exams will help you do well on actual exams by correcting mistakes and labelling which lecture note page or problem it came from for a detailed explanation. Redoing the lecture notes and problems on my own without notes helped me think through and understand.
Mix of graded and practice assignments each week plus 3 exams and 3 pre-exams. To do well in this class, practice doing by doing the connect assignments multiple times, especially the problems, because the exam is going to be very similar. Exams are in Connect using Proctorio.
Very sweet professor! The class itself is very difficult, but I recommend studying his lecture notes & doing the homework problems over again. Sometimes on pre-exams and actual exams, problems that weren't similar were listed which was annoying. Overall, I think he is the best option for 332. He is very understanding and wants you to do well!
Prof Ingram is fantastic. He gives you all the tools you need to do well in this difficult class. His recorded lectures are very helpful and he can actually be pretty entertaining. I do smartbook and problems each week and save the practice mc and problems (for no points) to help review before exams and preexams.
Professor always seemed stressed or angry. Not a great atmopshere in the classrooom and would guilt-trip you for not reading the lecture notes ahead of time. Hated every minute.
This professor is alright. the class is hard so you have to study hard.
He's an old fashioned professor as he has been at Mason since near the beginning. It was his first time teaching this specific course so he didnt have answers to alot of our Q's about the overall course immediately. Lectures are pretty dry but he does know his stuff and practicing the HW problems is a huge help on the Exams
The professor knows his material some tips for his class study the no point multiple choice practice exercises he gives for pre-exams and make sure to practice homework on connect over and over again. Watch the lecture for better understanding of the materials on connect. If you do this things you should be prepared for his exams.
Most grading criteria uses McGraw Hill, the exams, quizzes, and homework are generated through McGraw Hill. Expect lots of smartbook assignments. Professor himself uploads lecture videos to help understand the materials. The class itself is hard so cannot even blame the Professor. He talks a lot so expect 3 hours of watching and taking video notes.
If you take this class in person, make sure you review his number two reviews and his notes. These will be very important for the exam. I didn't review the HW on Mcgraw Hill before exams. I think only online students are graded based on the hw. Professor Ingram has some of the best Notes I've seen. So much sure to practice those more than the HW.
You won't pass this class unless you attend all the lectures and practice all the problems. Content is good and the pacing of his lectures is fine. He's rather harsh in terms of grading.
I took this class online because of the reviews about his in person sessions and it is equally awful. Lecture videos are too long and he makes numerous mistakes mid lecture which makes you so confused. When you bring it up during office hours he gets worked up, typical old school behavior. This class is such a pain, avoid him.
It is a pretty terrible class. He does not use the book and he discourages use of the book. He has crafted his very own "lecture notes" which he thinks are superior enough to take the place of the book. Although his notes are incredibly long, terribly wordy, lacking examples, and just plain confusing. Eighty percent of his lecture is off topic.
Rambling lectures, brutally graded sadistically hard exams. Woefully inefficient usage of lecture time. Extremely loud and unnerving during exam times. Unusually fixated on cheating. Stands at the front of the classroom during exam time and stares at you as if you were a zoo display. Nearly half of his students will get below a C on exams.
hard class but he explains the lecture notes very well. id recommend taking it online bc u can go back through the videos if u zone out or dont understand and dont have to worry about missing notes if sick. do practice Connect exercises before tests. I'm taking another class w him next semester bc I liked his teaching style sm
The class materials are heavy already, so this class is obviously challenging. He provides a lot of lecture notes (which are long), but they are useful, especially for the tests. Hw is easy to get full credits. 3 tests and all of them are hard. Studying his lecture notes will be extremely helpful for tests. Final is cumulative.
This class is hard no matter the professor, but Prof Ingram gives very helpful notes and explains different types of examples per chapter. I took this class over the summer and it was doable, but don't recommend. It was 5 weeks, 9 chapters with SB and HW, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. Exams and quizzes are on Connect with the use of proctorio.
I am currently taking the class, and I wish I hadn't. This is by far the worst class I have taken at GMU. Lectures are a waste of time since he spends the first hour talking about nothing. Unusually fixated on cheating. I have learned absolutely nothing in this class so far. If you are debating taking him in person, please don't. For your sake.
ACCT332 is a challenging class, but Prof. Ingram provides thorough lecture notes that are helpful for exams. While attendance isn't mandatory, I'd recommend watching the online videos and using resources like unstuck study to supplement your studies. The workload is heavy, but manageable if you keep up.
ACCT 332 is hard, but Ingram provides many practice problems to help. DO THEM! They help so much with the tests. Ingram's lectures are entertaining, although he talks a lot. There is also a TA. You can pass this class with Ingram with lots of effort. Uses the same textbook from ACCT 331. Ingram also is available outside of class. Good professor.
