Extremely articulate, and a pretty cool guy. Knows the difference between explaining something and just standing around and talking. Two thumbs up.
great teacher. hard class. he actually explained stuff though. he didnt just give us some problems and told us to figure them out. he is available between classes if you need extra help.
I took him for 3 classes (Bus. Calc, Col Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra). Obviously I enjoyed his classes or else I wouldn't have taken him over and over. I like how he didn't just throw you out in an ocean and expect you to learn to swim on your own. He was always so willing to help. I would take him again if I were still at ACC.
Awesome instructor! knows his stuff and cares if you learn. will take him again for other classes.
This professor is very clear on during his lectures, however his tests are rather difficult. There were no A's in my class and he does not curve so "what you get is what you get." Quizzes are easy if you do your homework. I enjoyed his class, but do not expect it to be easy.
He is a good looking man. That is about as far as the compliments go. He is arrogant, stuck up, and has the personality of a slug. He berrates the entire class when the scores come back low. He doesnt even consider the possibility that he man not be reaching the students. That they may not understand what he is trying to teach. I have taken this cl
He teaches real good but makes the test extemely hard. Calculus is meant to be hard but i had friends that were in UT this semester and their class was way easier than this man's. No complaints but just be ready for hard test. He likes to throw in 2 or 3 extremely hard word problems that can kill your A on the test real quick!!
Tests are HARD. Had him for college alg. Dropped his class after recieving a failing grade in first test. Since, I've made A's from College Alg.- Calc.3. He doesn't curve at ALL. Only one person got an A on the first test. Take someone else. He failed more than half the class on the 1st test.
cool guy. He's funny and he knows what he is teaching. If you go to class and do the assigned homework (that he doesnt collect) you will make an A. You get what you put into it. Math is easy for me so i dont put much into it but i still mad an A
Great teacher, knows what he is talking about. Assigns homework but will never grade it. It's up to you to look over your homework he assigns from the book to know your material.Test are a bit hard but not if you do your homework. He will ask if anyone has questions from the homework the next class period so if you don't get something ask him.
This was a hard class. For me it required a lot of time studying and reviewing notes. Although he is a bit stuck up, he does care for his students and is willing to lend a hand. I ended up with a D but what he taught me made life a whole lot easier the second time around.Since he doesn't curve or grade homework falling behind is easy, but dagerous
You get what you get. There are no curves. IF you attend and do the homework you will pass with an A or B. Hes a good prof
I have taken trig, and calc 1,but recently found out when i came to acc that college algebra was required, though i tested out.he counts attendance religiously, test are made with problems just to trick you. if you fail the first test it is not possible to make an A. a letter grade will drop for each test you fail. RUN! studying will not help you.
Had him for Business Calc. 2/3 of our class dropped out. His tests are brutal. He explains problems from suggested homework quite well, but exam questions come from outside sources. Several are trick questions. Be prepared to not get an A.
The guy knows what he's talking about. If you're confused, he mostly like can see why and will get you on track quickly. Do all of his recommended homework assignments and follow his study guide, you're golden. His tests can be tricky but if you study like you should, again, you're golden. I hate math and he makes it a walk in the park.
Easy to understand
Counts off on your quizzes and tests for stupid stuff that isn't relevant, tries to trick you occasionally .
had a class of 36 initially and went down to 6 by the end. tries to trick you all the time. he knows damn well nobody is a math major or is going on to higher level math but rapes his students anyway. counts off for stupid stuff and gives questions on tests he doesn't even teach about.
He's occasionally kinda mean, but he really pushes students to be the best. If you really want to learn math, take his class(es) and PAY ATTENTION. If you study and do the not-required homework, you will learn SO much. I took his Int. Algebra class and then decided to take his other classes(as did a few other students in my class). Take him!
He does not try to trick you, and is not mean, y'all are just mad lol. He is crystal clear in his lectures and sets you up for good notes. He really cares about his job and it shows. I definitely learned a lot and feel prepared to move on. He is a very good teacher
I hate this man. He assigns homework, and I do ALL of it. 100 percent on all the homework, but I can't seem to score above a 60 on his tests and quizzes. Then when you ask him about it, he thinks you are trying to attack him, and somehow turns it around on you. Highly un recommended if you plan on never taking math again. Total NURN
Watch Out! He is tough! The test and quizes are nothing like the homework, so it makes it hard to study. I feel like "a deer in headlights" when I get to the test. I hope he reads this and tries to help his students suceed instead of failing. Only 1 person in my starting class of 34 made an A, no joke!
I took him for col algebra, extremely difficult class. the tests are not like the homework, berats his students in class. I do not recommend him unless you are going into many levels of higher math. grade based only on quizzes and tests, very difficult to get an A
If you are not a "math person" do not take his class. he is extremely difficult, if you are taking business math, go with another professor. There is virtually NO help outside of this class available as it is so specific, tutors will not advise you accurately. Overall, I have been let down by my experience I his class
Professor Karl is a great teacher! I came into the class completely confused by math, and now I get it. He's great about explaining concepts, going into the details, and sticking with things until everyone understands it. My favorite math professor yet!
Good teacher but TOUGH class!!! if your not a math person do not take him. Its nothing but quizzes and 4 exams. there is no homework. attendance is a must but deft. choose a different prof. if you heart is not strong about math!!
Mark Karl is not a good teacher. I was the best math student in a high school class of 900, passed the AP Calculus exam with a 5 and somehow I was incapable of getting a decent grade on his test? When I asked him for advice, he condemned me as "in over my head". Right, buddy. His tests were seldom adequately relevant to his assignments.
I took him for Business Calc I. YOU HAVE TO DO THE HOMEWORK!!! He is a great professor; really passionate about math. Go to class and spend 8-10 hrs per week studying and doing homework and you'll have no problems. YOU HAVE TO DO THE HOMEWORK!!!
Prof Karl is tough but I loved him. If you struggle with math take someone else. Otherwise, just do the homework and you'll be golden.
The good part is he knows what he is talking about. You will learn a lot. The downfalls however outweigh the good. He is an extreamly tough grader and puts overly complicated questions on the exam. Over half of the class failed every exam. The third ranked person in the class had a 71. I would never take him again. Good luck if you do!
Awful Awful Instructor stay clear of this guy. Even if you are strong in Math you will make B's and C's. Tests and quizzes are somewhat like the homework, very tough. He is extremely condescending throughout his lecture. He cant help but belittle his students, if you don't mind being talked down to for 2 hours then take him.
this teacher is horrible he missed three weeks of class in a 16 week course and then rushed threw the information. and made test and quiz a guessing game and extremely harder than what they should be due to the circumstances given
Professor Karl is awesome. He really pushes you to work harder. His lectures are clear. His tests are not hard if you put in the work. He is not there to hold your hand. There is no curve in the real world. If you are transferring to a 4 year college, this is what every class is like. Put in the work and you will be fine and learn something.
Mr. Karl's math class is not easy. He is helpful and answers students' questions in class or in his office. The homework is not graded but a must-do if you want to keep up with the lessons. Quiz and Exams are fairly challenging, sometimes there were surprises which I did not like. Must do well on the quizzes and exams to earn a good grade.
Challenging. There is little extra credit & no homework grade to pad your scores or force you to study. Prof. Karl doesn't hold your hand, but doesn't hesitate to ask for & answer even simple questions. Great lectures, take good notes & STUDY THE EXAMPLES he gives, they'll be on the test. He's also generous with partial credit, show your work!
Hard but definitely helpful. This is the kind of class exceptional students want to take. Many people do not like this class because he doesn't hold your hand throughout the course. Those are the people that drop out and are unsuccessful. If you want to learn calculus take this class. You WILL learn it if you follow his rules. Excellent class
This is a moderately difficult class. Do not expect to pass if you do not do homework, take good notes and study outside of class. Weekly quizzes, Four tests. He does not grade homework, but he does go over questions the class has. Study hard, use your resources, and you will be able to fight for your A.
His attitude is pessimistic. On the first day of class, he ranted about how most of the students will end up dropping the course and how hard it is. He spends quite a bit of time chastising students rather than keeping the lecture flowing. We got 3 weeks behind and it became very hard to keep up. Take it with someone else.
He is Extremely narcissistic and finds joy in making his students feel stupid. He grades ridiculously hard and takes BS points off. He is actually good at explaining concepts but he moves too quickly for most to understand. I would never recommend him as a teacher and I honestly didn't know one single person could have so much ego.
The class itself is time constrained, and there is no extra credit or curve cushion. The lectures are easy to understand, the homework is fine (he doesn't grade it, but it is easy to get), and the quizzes are fine if you do the homework. The tests, however, are completely different and difficult no matter how much you study. See other comments.
A terrible Professor! Does nothing to cater to the different learning styles of his student (i.e. visual, kinesthetic auditory, etc.). Even if you get the right answer on a question, if you didn't do it the way he prefers, he deducts a massive amount of pts. off. And he is extremely condescending toward his students. My advice: take someone else
Excellent professor! He makes math enjoyable and understandable! Definitely recommend!
He doesn''t make you do your homework but to pass the quizzes and tests you have a quiz every Thursday and exams every 3 weeks you have to do it. Teaches fast but also a good teacher. Said by him only 40 of people pass my class.
Mr. Karl is a very VERY tough grader and is not open to other ways of solving a problem. If you get the right answer, but don't solve it the way he wants, he deducts the majority of the points. He knows what hes doing, but sucks at lecture and is always very arrogant
First day of class, went to the extent to tell us 80% of us would fail his class. He persists to include a dry sense of humor that is unrelated to class. If you are NOT a math major like me, and do not love math then DO NOT take this class. If you like to ask Q's for help, good luck getting a "helpful" response. PS - No formula charts.
He Is a great teacher but is very rude, he once said "I don't care if you do everything I teach you but if you cannot factor I will fail you" I dropped the class, when I asked the people who stayed if they had passed the majority said that they failed. I do not recommend him unless you are a math genius.
Professor Karl is an excellent math teacher! His lectures are very clear and he explains the material so that it really makes sense -- very precise and articulate for this difficult subject. He takes class very serious, but has a great sense of humor. He does not require you to turn in the homework, but doing it will help tremendously on the tests!
He is no nonsense type of teacher. He starts off the first class giving statistics about how many people will pass his class and the answer is not many will pass. He does not curve grades or offer extra credit. He does assign homework that he will not grade but if you want to pass his quizzes and test you have to do. I did enjoy his class.
Do your homework! Not graded, but it is the only way to understand everything. There is NO EXTRA CREDIT, NO CURVE & No Formula charts! Gives copies of all your quizs & tests so you can use them to study more, + he spends the first 10 - 15 min going over any questions. He is a GREAT teacher, you have to work for it! Helps students during office hrs.
A decent teacher, but he made it a point to tell us he had better things to do with his time. Spends way too much time off topic and chastising students. He would often lecture us about college not being the same as high school for about 20 minutes at a time. If you can deal with his awful attitude and very strict grading go for it.
It's a college course, and you're expected to act like it's one. You're responsible for doing your homework, and he will help you if you have questions. He does give partial credit if your work right but your answer is wrong. Petty chill, pretty laid back, but you gotta work for your grade. Great professor though. I no longer hate math.
He is very negative throughout the class. Also it was hard to keep up because not only does he teach really fast but he skips the middle steps while solving a problem.
He is a strict professor for sure, but he explains everything thoroughly and gives ample warning what will be on tests and quizzes. He tells you the dates of all the quizzes and tests as well. The only reason to not pass the class is if you didn't do all the homework. If you do the homework and you knew it all you should be fine.
Overall excellent professor, he provides clear criteria and expectations. However he is strict and you will have to work hard for an "A".
As long as you do the homework, he does review some questions, given each day, you can pass his class. A fairly large amount of warning before the tests and quizzes and what they cover.
Professor Karl will make you work hard for your grade. He is clear with the lectures and gives good feedback. If you skip his class you will miss good information and probably won't pass. He drops the two lowest quiz grade but does not gives credit for homework He does cares for his students when he sees they are putting the work. Great Professor!
I took two different courses with this professor. He goes through each and every step in a problem. If you are not paying attention, skipping class, and not doing your homework then you will fail. The ones that dropped the class were mainly high school students that didn't take his class seriously. He prepares you for the next course you will have.
I have no choice but to take this professor again, unfortunately. He expects complete memorization and understanding of concepts that he barely touches on in class. Not cool.
Prof. Karl is great. He's an awesome teacher, but he expects you to actually study outside of class. If you don't put in your own time, you will not pass his class. He drops the lowest test grade and replaces it with your final, if it's higher, of course; my final brought my grade up from a B to an A. Study your old tests and quizzes!
Stay away from this professor if you can. He openly talks about how he doesn't approve of millennials and will complain nearly every class about how good our generation is with pushing buttons, maybe this is why he requires a portion of the test without calculators. He makes the class more difficult than a good professor should.
Unless you know everything about college algebra already, i do not recommend taking this professor. He is a very negative person in general, and then when you don't understand something it is because you should already know it. He gives you homework that isn't for a grade with so many problems and then the quiz has 3 questions on it. Very hard.
This man isnt very nice. He will be a very difficult grader for every quiz and test you take. He is rude and will be very demeaning to his students. He offers very little help and will let you fail and give no warning until the very last minute of the semester.
He's a good teacher and definitely answers your questions and makes sure you know everything about everything. Kinda a condescending jerk sometimes, but I still did well!
I have never had a teacher that I did not respect until I took this course. The best word I could use to describe his behavior is unprofessional. He understands the material, but that does not equate to being a good teacher. I passed, but it was not worth enduring his classes. Do the HW, take notes, and review. He needs to improve as an educator.
If you truly want to learn the material he is the professor to take. He can come off harsh sometimes but he does not lack in his teaching. I left his class actually knowing and understanding the material. If you are serious about your education this is the kind of professor you want to take. I wish I could take him for all my math classes.
Math for Bus, Bus Calc. Organizes material to understand the math rather than memorize processes, good teacher. Homework is not graded but he reviews it in class, so have questions ready. If you miss more than one class you'll probably fail. NOTES. Test are difficult. Quizzes on wed/thurs. Keep track of your own grade. Can be blunt, just ignore it.
Karl's class is difficult, yet it is very much passable. Just like other courses, do your HW, study, repeat. Issues I had were the fact that he is highly anti-calculator for a majority of the problems throughout the year, he is very blunt and rather rude at times if you don't understand something. He's good, just tough.
Prof Karl is passionate about the subject he teaches, he is also very serious about respect in the classroom and very clear on the amount of WORK that will go into being successful in the class. His rules are strict but just. His teaching is kind of old school BUT effective. If you do not put in the TIME to study/practice material, you will fail.
If you have to take a college algebra class for credit and you have not taken a math class in a year or more, this is NOT the class for you. This class is very fast paced and meeting only twice a week is not enough for the material. Very good lectures however very sarcastic. STRICT GRADER. Homework not graded, quiz every other week, 4 exams.
Save yourself the money and dont take his class. He is always very negative and doesnt seem to really want to help his students learn the material. Goes very fast, gets a little annoyed if you dont understand and try to ask for help. Makes you feel dumb and not understanding at all. Worst professor Ive had.
Professor Karl is an excellent professor. He responds well to questions in class, and will not hesitate to redo any homework/test/quiz problems after the fact. This is a math course so, don't skip class. As with any college course, the grade you get is a direct reflection of how much time you put into it. Stay focused, I believe in you.
Ive taken this professor multiple times and I will continue to do so for future math courses. He explains the material well and breaks it down into the easiest way possible for students. It can be a difficult course because it is math. If you pay attention, do the homework, and go to class, your grade will reflect! Highly recommend him.
Professor Karl pulls no punches, and his Business Calculus class was the hardest course iv'e ever taken. In a class of 32, only 8 students remained at the final exam. However, this was due to the difficulty of the material and limited class time. If you are willing to put in the necessary work, professor Karl is an excellent person to learn from.
be ready to study a lot and he does not do retest so if you fail your test you don't get to make it up. try to ask questions and listen in class because sometimes his test questions require answers that that are mentioned during the lectures.
Mr. Karl is an excellent Math teacher at ACC! I think he gets a bad rep bc he doesn't allow students to use graphing calculators, but tbh you don't really need it in his class. He teaches in a way that makes it really easy. I took him for intermediate algebra after being out of HS for 4 years and made an A. I also took him for college algebra!
Mr. Karl is a tough professor, but if the path to your degree is rife with mathematics, the work you will have to put in for a passing grade will pay off massively in later classes. You won't pass without a concerted effort and a thorough understanding of foundational mathematics.
I took him in the fall. Hardest class I have EVER taken. Karl is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, rough exterior but he cares. Has 0 respect for anything less than 110% MASTER YOUR HOMEWORK, MASTER HIS NOTES! If you went over it in class IT WILL BE ON THE TEST! All quizzes combined the weight of a test, take them seriously! I was one of only 2 A's!
Would not reccomend! No help when we switched to online classes basically quit doing his job dosent respond to emails says he hates electronics therfore he dosent use them. Dosent like the fact when you try to get help from someone else but refuses to help you. Rude towards students who ask questions! You dont know your grade bc he dosent use BB
Professor Karl is a tough but really good teacher. He expects you to keep up and remember the information from your prerequisite course but he is super smart and very good at explaining things. He has been teaching for a long time and knows the easiest, most effective ways of working all the problems. He is WAY better at explaining than the book
Honestly would not take this class as him being the professor. he doesn't let you rewatch the recorded lectures. he doesn't upload his notes ever. he's quite rude and gets annoyed when you don't understand something. if you're sick one day then you wont get any of that material for that lecture. I'm pretty bad at math and hes just not helpful
He is an insanely strict grader the average grade for his class at the moment with 3 weeks left is a 61 I suggest getting a Streamer program like OBS and recording the lectures so you have it. The way he words tests are weird and go to every single class the A is possible but less possible for kids where math is not thier strongsuit like me
Karl is the worst teacher I've ever had and it's the second week of class. I thought I would give him a chance but I wish I didn't and got my refund back. I ended up dropping the class like many people in this course (23/31 dropped it so far). He has the worst way of proctoring his tests. Literally, take any other teacher beside him. TRUST ME.
Do not take this professor. Anytime you ask a question he makes you feel like an idiot for not knowing how to do it. Very rude. A lot of homework from the book and not very organized. Take anyone else but him.
Unfortunately I had professor Karl for my very first college semester and I hated it. He would often ask Does anyone have any questions? And if anybody did, he would get annoyed and make the student feel stupid. When he was supposed to be there and be helpful for the student, not bring them down. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
He's not the nicest person in the world but he truly does understand the material and teach it in a way that is easy to learn. By far the best math teacher I've ever had. If you can't commit to the work, it'll be hard, and Professor warns people of that. Learning calculus sucks, but Professor Karl reallyyyy knows what he's doing!
Any math-1325 you are going to take is going to be very difficult. He doesnt just give hw assignments bc he wants us to have more of a work load. He gives them because they will help us learn the material. I attended almost every single one of his office hours and I was failing the entire semester - he helped me passed.
this teacher disrespected me in front of my whole class and parents on zoom because I stood up for the rest of the class. Everyone felt uncomfortable asking questions because he is rude and doesn't explain nice or properly. He will not help you if you have issues at home and can't make it to class, he was terrible for my mental health and education
Great professor however ACC's math department needs to be wearier of students coming back to college after a pandemic. An extra 15-20 minutes of class time could've been my saving grace. My algebra was weak going into business calculus. If the professor had time to go over the algebra needed per chapter, I would have been fine.
Professor Karl is a good teacher. The problem is the people is the class were LAZY. They don't want to do math. Karl has expectations but a negative when it comes to people who are lazy. I liked him and received a good grade and LEARNED.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. Your grade will come from 4 tests combined as 80% of your grade. Not only does he give hard tests, his tests are different than the material covered in class. Don't even bother to apply different methods than what he will teach because he will take points off. Pick anyone else other than Karl if you want to pass.
Professor Karl is an extremely tough and not very understanding professor. He would record lectures but only send them out if you missed the class and had an excuse he liked before he would send you the recording. Does not upload lecture notes and will make you feel very unintelligent if you ask him to explain anything he has gone over.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He is a very unkind professor and does not take the time to actually make sure students understand the material. He makes you feel dumb for asking questions. His test are extremely hard and barely anyone passed his tests. HW is a must in order to understand what is being taught. Grading is his way or no points.
Karl started class off by saying 50% of us will most likely fail, which was true. It wasn't because he was a bad teacher. It was because most of the kids wouldn't take his class seriously. You'll have homework after every class from the textbook. If you pay attention and ask questions the class should be pretty straight forward. Would take again.
If you like doing everything possible (hours of studying, practice HW, getting external help on questions) and still do poorly on tests, this class is for you! Jokes aside, you can get by this class fine if you hardcore dedicate yourself. His teaching was just not for me. I had to reteach all the lessons to myself to get it, still withdrew cuz nah
He doesn't take homework so your grade is on exams and quizzes only. If you don't have the hours to dedicate to this course outside of class then it isn't for you. It comes with lots of studying!!!
I felt no matter how much overtime I put into this course, I kept failing the tests. I would practice problems from hw and lecture notes that were given & the tests provided had concepts we weren't familiar with at all. I felt like he kept throwing us a curveball every time. He would blame us for taking poor notes and I write down everything. AVOID
Very hard class!
Little to no effort in teaching. Didn't care if the class understood. Gave quizzes at the end of class AFTER teaching a new concept. No test prep guidance. No clear expectations on what to study. Put the most of my time into this class than my others and managed to pass the others with As. Notes/hw/quizzes never matched exam expectations. AVOID.
Professor Karl's class is challenging, but engaging with the material and utilizing study tools like unstuck study can really help. Attend every lecture, do the homework diligently, and be prepared to put in the work - it's worth it to get through this tough but rewarding course.
