Dr. Kelly is brand new to IVC. It usually takes a semester or so to learn how everything works. I think he's a great teacher. He is very laid back and his lectures are fun. Seems to have plenty of knowledge and experience to teach the class. He is more than helpful and offers extra credit projects. So far I'm enjoying the class and doing well!!
He's a really nice guy and wants students to do well. However, it's almost like he is TOO nice because he really hasn't taught the class anything important-- it is basically just memorizing for tests. After seeing a test from the another physio teacher I realized we are waay behind and have not covered much. Easy A if you dont want to really learn.
Professor Kelly is not a good teacher. Everyone can agree that he would rather talk about himself than teach. He is a self-proclaimed egomaniac. No kidding. Talks about "what great shape" he's in. Cracks corny jokes. Basically everything BUT teaching the important material. Unfortunately I think we all are going to suffer grade-wise because of him.
Dr. Kelly was totally cool and his knowledge is very high. The labs he did were the only good ones I have ever had and he personally went out of his way to help me on several occassions. I have not had a more generous and caring prof at IVC. Kudos to you Dr. Kelly- good luck with your business.
Aside from being the funniest professor I've ever had, Dr. Kelly is dedicated to helping his students learn to their best ability. Many times he went out of his way to help me and some others when the material became difficult. He is the only teacher I've had that makes the material fun and understandable. Physiology is a hard subject, but having
There is a reason why this teacher is not teaching at IVC next semester- he sucks. No credible teaching experience (U of Phoenix). I would bet that the great feedback he is receiving on here is from girls in the class. He is probably the second worst teacher I've had at IVC. Nice guy but scatter-brained. Very unorganized & sloppy teaching style.
Interesting how some people can find Dr. Kelly not clear. Most instructors I had didn't produce lecture notes and especially if they were teaching for someone on sabbatical (reason Dr. K is not back). I knew what to expect in his tests, and got a lot out of his review sessions which most did not attend. High quality teacher and guy who cares.
He is the best professor you could ask for. He is handsome, helpful, and interesting. I enjoyed every second of his class. Easy, useful labs. 4 multiple choice exams, no final but a group presentation. Go for him and enjoy a science class once in your life.
I'm really surprised by the reviews given to Professor Kelly thus far. Obviously, the women who wrote these reviews were so blinded by his looks that they didn't realize he wasn't teaching the subject of physiology at all. And the Schwarzenegger impressions...ENOUGH ALREADY.
Reflecting on Dr. Kelly's class it was amongst the best I had at IVC because of his interest in getting the main facts across and not getting bogged down with minutia. Some disgruntled people can't see the big picture if it slapped them across the face. Good class, great teacher.
I could not have asked for a more high quality and compassionate professor. In summer physiology class, its a lot of material to digest in 8 weeks, but Dr. Kelly was amazingly effective and made it possible to do well and learn all important facets/details of the course. B/c of him, I learned a lot and felt very prepared for graduate school.
Physiology def requires abstract thinking. He is very knowledgeable in his profession and it reflects on his teaching style. Pay attention to hints, they come as useful. His analogies and connections stick to your mind in a different way, but effective. Create a study group, super useful they help you in areas you might not understand & vice versa
Tough class Lots of material to cover, but Great Teacher got us through it. Record lectures, print power point, take notes and read book for added understanding. Ask questions, He is Very approachable. Prepare to memorize and study to understand concepts. Group study helps. Not easy.
Dr. Kelly seemed to be highly compassionate and willing to see the student's perspective. I found him to be approachable, and had a sincere desire to get us to learn the facts. He uses great analogies, and great hints toward what is needed on the test. I liked the review sheets, review sessions, and extra credit assignments. Tough class at the pace
Professor Kelly is definitely the best Professor! He cares for the best of his students. His lecture is very clear and very interesting. He is always available when you have questions. Before exams, he always give you review sessions and study guide. I truly enjoyed his class and look forward to take Physiology with him in the future.
I took an 8-week summer class and from the start, the professor was disorganized and unclear. He always came in unprepared and just read over the powerpoint slides. If you want a guaranteed A then take it with Dr. Kelly. If you want to learn about physio, take it with another professor because this class will not prepare you for graduate school.
Make sure you read the slides carefully. Dr. Kelly will emphasize important test material to allow students to succeed. Very approachable. Don't be afraid to ask questions and keep up with the material. Good luck!
Passionate funny professor that makes the lecture very easy to absorb. He cares about his students.
Kelly's lectures are very clear and concise. He is a wonderful choice for anyone who wants a good overview of human physiology. The focus is to understand the subject as whole and not on the tiny details. Gives several extra credit opportunities. His tests are just and he curves them. He is very good a keeping students engaged and he is funny too.
Dr. Kelly is a wonderful professor who is funny and approachable. The material is hard but that's just physiology. He definitely tries his best to make it as easy as possible. 4 tests no final a few quizzes, some homework and lots of extra credit. Definitely recommend him over Hurlbut and others.
This was already a tough class, but Mr Kelly made it harder by not being prepared. He went off the teacher that had a class before ours and we had to take her test without being prepared. If I wanted to teach myself then I would have taken an online class but you can't with Anatomy physiology.
The material is a tough subject but Dr. Kelly makes it understandable. I took the class on Friday and Saturday and it wants bad at all. I truly enjoy his lectures, plus he's funny. Take him over the other professors.
Dr. Kelly gave me a good perspective on physiology that I can use in my health profession. I was entertained and learned good concepts from him. I found him to be approachable and empathetic with me and other students. The weekends were not the best time for class, but he made it worthwhile. Fair grading and extra credit opportunities!
Professor Kelly was one of the most passionate and knowledgeable teachers I have had. With alot of academic experiences himself he was able to make physiology not only interesting but also fun to learn. While lecturing he provides comical relief with his impersonations and his tests are fairly written and covers material that he has presented.
Dr. Kelly was great, he made lectures interesting and fun. Need to buy the textbook for homework/ studying. Took physio in the Summer and I'm not a good test taker, was very nervous going into it. Lecture exams worth only half the grade! Woo! Gives points for extra credit, homework, labs, lab quizzes, etc. Material is difficult, but hey it's physio
Dr. Kelly was a great professor. Physiology is a lot of work so no matter what class you take it will be hard but choosing the right professor makes it better, he has lecture power points, reviews, and gives out a lot of extra credit. overall this class was good you just have to put in the work.
I took Dr. Kelly's summer Physiology class. I was worried even before taking this class because I am not naturally smart. He really cared about us and tried to make Physio as understandable as possible. You have to do the homework, labs in the correct format and just study. He gives study guides for the exams and if you work for it, you'll do well
I took his class over the summer, and for me it was tough. He was slightly disorganized some days, but he came to class and lectured what he was supposed to. He was great because he gave study guides for each exam, and he grades exams relatively quick. If you study hard (really read HIS powerpoints, and then use the book), you should do well.
If you're looking for an easy A, take him. If you're looking to thoroughly understand physio and retain the information, I wouldn't. His exams have easy material but are worded in a manner that make it hard to understand. The average was low but was brought significantly up by curving and extra credit.
I took Dr. Kelly for Microbiology, and going into it I was nervous. Dr. Kelly makes the lectures entertaining and understandable, even for those who sometimes feel lost. There are 4 tests based off the lectures and labs are fun. Not much homework, yet reading the chapters does help for the exam. I would take him again
Dr. Kelly is a breath of fresh air when it comes to chemistry. I'm a kinesiology major so I was not looking forward to taking chemistry. Dr. Kelly is a PHD in exercise physiology and he spoke my lingo. You have to attend class, turn in the labs and get good test scores to obtain a solid grade in the course. He also provides a lot of extra credit
An energetic teacher, he gives extra credit (7%), curves tests, and can't teach. Every class was a power point presentation with him improvising the lecture as he flips through the slideshow that was provided by the chemistry dept., and every other lecture he'd mistakes such as saying water is nonpolar. Don't take if you're trying to learn.
Just had chemistry with him and really got a lot out of the class and fill prepared to go on. He was very clear with the grading, what would be on the tests and when everything was due. He was still getting used to Canvas but used it a lot and used it well. I like his enthusiasm and humor and would love to take him again. I liked the extra credit .
Good thing- there is almost 10% extra credit that can literally raise your grade a letter if you do it all. BUT this is the most unorganized and frustrating class EVER. Due dates & more are rarely ever clear. He is a really nice guy! BUT he didn't know what to teach 2/3 of the semester until we got to biochem (what he knows but not how to teach)
DO NOT TAKE him. He will not respond to emails, makes the class more difficult than it should be. I have a bachelors of science and have taken anatomy for my undergrad and received a B, yet he makes it impossible to even pass HIS class. He is unorganized and will NOT update your grades. You will end up teaching yourself.
Dr. Kelly is a fun, energetic and motivated teacher. As long as you respect him and do your assignments, I don't think you will have any problems taking his class. Common sense. He makes classroom environment relaxed, fun, easy going. He's resourceful. Great communication!! Im taking his Physiology soon. Leon. Average student just received B+ : )
A really nice and energetic professor! But the class was SO unorganized; study it yourself kind of class. He goes over the lecture pretty fast. Labs were pretty awful, too. Had to figure out/guess what we were doing; no lecture/demo given prior. Offers LOTS of EC to boost your grade. Unresponsive to emails. Slow grader. A really frustrating class
AMAZING! I don't understand all the negative comments about Dr. Kelly. Those who don't have nice things to say about him are probably the same students who didn't put much of an effort to study and/or pay attention in class. Seriously the BEST science teacher! Dr. Kelly puts a great deal of effort into making all of the material understandable!
Dr. Kelly is a "Brofessor". He genuinely shows that he cares about his students and their success. Dr. Kelly goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the content of the lecture and provides all the extra help needed. Biochem is not easy, but he makes it fun and enjoyable. The bad comments are usually from those who did not put any effort.
Amazing Guy!
Dr Mark Kelly is really a great professor. He uses powerpoint and they are easy to understand. If you know your powerpoint well, you will do well in the class. The lab was easy too, a little bit tricker but nothing to be afraid of. He is caring, gives extra credit that will help your grades too. I would highly recommend this professor.
He's an awesome professor, personality wise, but the class itself is overwhelming. He reads off the slides and moves on like we understand it. He sometimes throws tantrums if the class doesn't go the way he wants it to. Tests are multiple choice, but its a study yourself kind of class, so that A on the test might be hard to get.
First off, Dr. Kelly is genuinely the kindest professor. However he just reads from his PowerPoint (90+ pages for most chapters) and teaches for people who already know chemistry. That would be fine, but this is an introduction/overview class. Be prepared to teach yourself and take advantage of any EC available. Labs are chaotic and unprepared.
Dr. Kelly is a really good professor. He lets you know exactly what is going to be on the test and doesn't make you memorize a bunch of worthless stuff. He cares for you as a student and gives extra credit and grades very fairly. The class moves at a fast pace but covers all of chemistry in a short time. Definitely take him- the brofessor!
Dr. Kelly is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was hesitant to take biochem at first, but he really broke the topics down very well. He really cares about his students and is passionate about not only biochem but also physio. He's very positive, friendly, and funny and he truly wants what is best for his students. Thank you Dr. Kelly!
Dr Kelly is someone who has influenced my curiosity and drive for the medical field
Prof. Kelly is not a bad person but unless you took Chem before this class you will fail. Labs are unorganized. He kicks people out 1-1.5 hours before the lab is suppose to end whether you finish or not. Only reads from powerpoints you don't have to show up to class. Gives a lot of EC. I dropped b/c I was lost (didn't take chem). Study guides suck
Dr. Kelly is awful at teaching Biochem. He assumes that everyone in his class already knows every concept like it is common sense. Going to class does not help because he just reads the powerpoint and skims through as fast as he can just to show a 10 minute video that does not help either. Test heavy, over 100 questions, and study guides dont help
Dr. Kelly passionate about his work. The class attendance not mandatory ( but might miss pointers for test), but labs mandatory. Course material were covered, and did not make us memorize some materials. Study guides helped. Extra credits were given. Lab quiz were in depth. Overall class was good.
Dr. Kelly is a great person. He wants to be your friend and enjoys sharing his own stories with you. Overall, he's very chill as long as you respect him and the class. The class is not that bad if you stay on top of it and have taken gen & org chem before. Labs are unorganized but not difficult. Do the labs and study guides and you should be fine.
Took Dr. Kelly's class for Bio10, & thoroughly enjoyed his class. Lectures on the important material needed for the exams. If you study the powerpoint and do the study guides you will do well on the exams and lab quizzes. Dr. Kelly is so nice and helpful. Also since he is a health & fitness guy, will also give advice on that. Would highly recommemd
Dr. Kelly creates a fun, interactive learning environment and offers a lot of insightful extra credit assignments you will learn a lot from doing. I enjoyed reading all his feedback on assignments. Course material is simple if you review PowerPoints and go through textbook chapters. Labs are simple and lab reports are short. A rewarding class.
Just study the powerpoints and you can get an A. He gives hints for tests during his lectures though. MANY extra credit opportunities. Easy A. The professor is funny and pretty chill dude.
Clear, straightforward lectures and testing criteria. Very caring and warm professor and person. Jokes may not be the funniest, but you can tell he puts heart into it so respect.
Dr. Kelly is a great professor. He tries his best to make sure students really understand the materials by explaining thoroughly about the biochemistry subject. He also gives students opportunities to boost up their grades by providing extra credit opportunities. The extra credit assignments are also very interesting and not so time consuming:)
Professor Kelly Cares about his students a lot and is very knowledgeable. He is also very funny! Would love to take another class with him!
Professor Kelly is a nice person and means well, but I do not recommend taking his class. He races through lectures and does not explain things clearly. His class was very unorganized and I basically had to teach myself the whole class. He tells you what will be on the tests, but be prepared to expect way more on them than what he says.
I am speechless, He is the kindest, responsible, and caring instructor I have ever seen in my life. He reminds me of my first-grade teacher :), we all know Anatomy is a hard class but with Dr. Kelly is more understandable and easy to memorize. I am not a native speaker but his PowerPoint helps me to understand the materials.
Dr. Kelly is friendly, easy to talk to, and approachable. He makes lectures engaging and tries to ensure you learn rather than memorize the material. While a background in biology or chemistry may be helpful, if you study the lecture slides, you will likely do well in this course. Dr. Kelly also offers EC opportunities that can improve your grade.
By far one of the best professors Ive had in IVC, he teaches very well and put a lot of time into his lectures. He also grades fair and if you communicate with him he is reasonable. I would definitely recommend and take his class again!
I was really nervous to take human anatomy & physiology as an online class but professor Kelly really made it really simple yet he clearly covered everything we needed. It really was an enjoyable class and he was super attentive to any questions I had if I ever got confused.
What an amazing course and professor to teach it! I learned so much from him and I was able to pass the class with ease. Show up to the lectures and take notes and you will pass. I would take this class again if I had the chance. You won't regret taking him!
I had professor kelly for bio21 and he was not a bad teacher. I would recommend showing up to lectures and participating because he will remember you more. He can be disorganized and give you many assignments that are not included on the syllabus. There are many extra credit opportunities and lots of tests. I come to enjoy having him.
Dr. Kelly is one of my favorite professors by far. I took him for Anatomy & Physiology and received an A in his course. I highly recommend showing up to lecture and participating as it helps retain the information. This is not light material and requires you to put in the work, but Dr. Kelly is very fair. Lots of extra credit opportunity too.
Um, where do I even start? AH YES. Dr. Kelly expects his students to be at a kinesiologist level or else they will fail his lab quiz, exams, etc. He skims through his slides and you are on your own after. Makes unprofessional announcements that can push all students into fear. Very unorganized with almost everything he posts on canvas. BE CAUTIOUS
Dr. Kelly is warm-hearted and tries to talk to all of his students. Lectures are straightforward and everything you need to know is in the power points. Some exams are pretty difficult, but the class isn't too heavy on HW and he offers lots of EC. Just make sure to follow his exact instructions on hw/tests - he gets pretty upset when you don't.
Dr. Kelly is one of the best professors I have ever had in my college career (I already graduated with a B.S in Chemical Engineering but moving to health care). This is my first review ever (Dr. Kelly is that good) LOL in short: funny guy, keeps it simple, but study hard to get an A as well as doing all extra credit to get an A so be diligent!
I made an account on RMP just to leave a review for Dr. Kelly. I would highly recommend you take Bio 10 with him; he is hilarious and you will never get bored during his lectures. He is educated in multiple disciplines and adopts an eclectic approach to teaching Biochemistry. I ended up getting 99.27% in the class. You must work hard for an A.
I just finished taking his bio 21 course and he gave us 4 lectures, the homework is in done online and its pretty easy, there was two lab practicals which are somewhat difficult, he offers a lot of extra credit, there is 4 discussion which are really easy and he gave us extra credit for 1 of them, his lectures are interesting and he is great!!!
I loved that he offered extra credit, his test lectures are timed but not proctored but theres is a lot of questions on the test like 100 but they are multiple choice, blank and matching, if u dont actually study and make sure to participate since he does give points for participation dont take him, and make sure to follow his tittle page.
Dr. Kelly is a really amazing Proffesor, it was my first time taking a bio class and I was really worried but he made me feel excited to learn and his material was easy to memorise, his lectures are really fun and he genuinely cares and he will make sure you pass if he sees you trying to learn, This class was an easy A thanks to Dr. Kelly!
First, he gives a ton of assignments and takes off points for small things. He's a nice person but not a good professor. Very disorganized during lecture and reads off of slides I practically didn't learn anything.
I took this class in an 8 week summer class & yes its hard but he makes it fly by. Hella extra credit & he grades different where lecture test don't make the bulk of your grade. He has a weird grading system so for sure ask half way through what your grade is but 100% take him if you can. Hilarious guy with great jokes, overall fun to go to class.
Very clear for what he wanted on assignments & you would only miss points if you didn't do simple things. Lots of EC, you could fail all the tests, do all the HW & EC and get a A/B. No one got lower than a C in my summer class, no excuses. For sure take him if you can, i took this class at saddleback and dropped the first day. also HILARIOUS LOL
Dr. Kelly makes his class fun. He uses different methods to help his students to understand scientific logic. He has study guides, extra credit opportunities. Follow the guidelines he provides on writing lab reports and case studies. Ask him questions, he will listen and give you some precious advice. I will miss his dad jokes and chill vibe.
Dr. Kelly makes learning fun. I love the funny jokes and associations he makes when teaching. Really good vibes.
The teacher himself is great and helps a lot. His homework and labs are easy. The class itself is difficult so if you need to take anatomy I recommend taking it with him. If you don't need to take anatomy don't take it. Tests and lab practicals are very difficult.
Dr. Kelly was engaged with students and gave many opportunities for redemption after a bad test grade or a missed lab. He was easy to reach outside of class and made study guides for every test. He gives so much extra credit and his lectures are simple and direct but still long and informative. He accepts all late work but there are penalties!
Very fair!!! Difficult, and you have to do the work. You have to show up. And you will get a good a good grade.
Do yourself a favor and take Prof. Kelly. Anatomy/Phys is a study heavy course & if you don't put in the work you won't do well. Do the study guides he provides & you'll do well. For his assignments, read his directions carefully & set them up how he asks and you'll receive full credit. He gives you every opportunity to succeed.
Dr. Kelly is one of the best professors I've had! He's very knowledgeable about physiology and his lectures are super fun to listen to. He truly makes an effort to connect with his students and is accessible outside of class. Like the other review says, he gives you every chance to succeed. Super awesome professor!!!
Dr. Kelly is an amazing professor! He is accessible outside of class, very understanding when it comes to life situations, and makes the class really fun. He is very knowledgeable in physiology and kinesiology, and his extra credits and assignments weren't bad to do at all. If you have to take physiology, take it with him!!
Dr. Kelly is one of the best professors IVC has! I don't usually use rate my professor, but Dr. Kelly is just that good! He's super nice, always comes into class with a smile, and makes it easy for newbies like me who don't know what they're doing. If you have to take physiology with anyone, take it with him! You won't regret it.
Dr. Kelly is awesome! He's kind, always helpful, and tells great jokes that make class fun. He explains everything clearly and makes sure everyone understands. Irvine Valley College is lucky to have such a great professor. If you get the chance, definitely take his class. You'll enjoy it and learn a lot!
One of the best professors at IVC. Lots of work to do but if you manage your time it's very doable. It's a heavy class so make sure to not take a lot of classes during summer with it. He gives great feedbacks, lots of extra credit, and curves tests. I would recommend it him to everyone, you won't be disappointed.
silly us best word to describe
TAKE HIM FOR ANATOMY!!! Had him in the evening, and his jokes were the only thing keeping me awake. He's very caring and understanding of his students' situation, so don't be afraid to talk to him if you are struggling behind! Exams are all MCQ, and a good portion of the questions are exactly as the ones he goes over in class during review.
I really enjoyed the course, despite the quick 8 week pace. Dr Kelly is very reasonable, approachable, and makes the effort to reach every student - I'm not a great test taker, but was able to excel with the lab and case study activities and write ups. He gives LOTS of opportunities for extra credit too!
Dr. Kelly is a great professor who truly cares about his students. The summer Human Physiology course was fast-paced and tough, but he was flexible and supportive, especially when I had schedule conflicts. He wants you to succeed and offers extra credit, take advantage of it! Put in the effort, and he'll help you succeed. Highly recommend!
Dr Kelly was an amazing professor. Physiology is not an easy course so expect to put effort into studying and understanding the material. Although the summer 8 week course was heavy with a lot of assignments and back to back exams, Dr Kelly made it so much more enjoyable by the way he taught. Every class was a good time and I left feeling rewarded.
