Biological Diversity was a good class. Dr Kershner really knows his Biology. His tests are not extremely hard but you do have to study. The easiest way to get an A is come to class, pay attention, and study. His tests are over what he goes over in class.
Biological Diversity-Good professor, is very helpful, go to office hours if you feel like you are falling behind. Tests are hard, but are straight from the notes.
Doc Kershner is a really awesome professor. He has a lot of really interesting facts about biology, which keep your attention. His class was super fun, and even though attendance wasn't required, I didn't want to miss a class! Study his notes (which are super visual and easy to follow), and read the chapters in the books to get the A. :)
His class is very fun and interesting. He clearly knows a lot about the subject matter and enjoys it. He also says "wicked cool" a lot, which is kind of funny.
He didn't have clear lecture notes. and at times it was hard to follow him. he kept switching on how he wanted to teach the class.
This guy is awesome. I highly recommend him as a professor. He makes class interesting. You will definitely learn a lot in this class. I would recommend reading the book before the test.
Bio Diversity. Great teacher kept the students interested with fun facts and stories. Fair grading, very good all around teacher. Made tests clear and not too hard. Very helpful person. Big recommendation here.
Awesome teacher! He shows a real love for his subject. Hope to be signing up for more of his classes.
Makes Biology very likeable
He's hilarious, and he always makes lecture interesting! He provides very interesting examples of the topics and makes his powerpoints very visually engaging. I wish I could take all my bio. classes with him! However, I do feel like I never used the required book because tests are all based on what he lectures.
He was very funny and seemed very excited about what he was teaching!I basically never used the book and I did great. However his tests are kind of hard so really study your notes! Oh and he gave us extra credit for our favorite donuts one time!
excellent professor he really loves what he does. show up, take good notes, and go to the SIs you'll do fine.
He is the most amazing Bio Diversity teacher i have ever had!!
Took him for Bio Diversity, and he was an excellent teacher! He really knows what he is doing and is usually entertaining in class. He was really helpful as well, making separate office hours so I could visit him. Great guy, great teacher. Highly recommended.
Excellent teacher. Really knows his stuff. Makes class really interesting.
he made this class very interesting and easy to follow along. his exams were a little tricky, but with a good night of studying they weren't too terrible. definitely knows his stuff!
He's a very fun teacher. Brought in a puffball and passed it around class. Tries to keep you motivated and interested in the subject.
He really knew his stuff and had a great passion for the material. Show up to class and take notes and you'll do fine.
Dr. Kershner is an excellent professor. He's so excited about everything he talks about, and he writes the notes as he lectures, so it's really clear and easy to follow. I didn't have to open the book once. Also, if you're a slow writer, he'll make sure you're ready to move on. Overall, go to class and take notes. Super easy A.
Fun class. Makes learning easy. Better to attend class. Tests on material presented only. Book is mostly optional with good attendance.
An excellent professor; enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Coming to class is important since the course uses the book very little, and the exams are almost entirely based on lecture.
His test are hard and it takes him at least a month to grade them even though they are sean tron with a few essays. Its so annoying!
He is a really great professor. He is extremely knowledgable and makes the material interesting. Kershner writes the notes while he's talking which I love and I never had to use the book. The tests are easy as long as you show up for class because he doesn't post them and the test material comes directly from it. He's a good one.
As long as you attend class, pay attention, and take notes you will be fine. Dr.K makes you want to attend class because most of the material is very interesting. He is very nice and very funny. As long as you study you should be able to get an A on the exams.
Very helpful prof. Kept the class interesting. Attendance wasn't mandatory but you wanted to show up. Show up everyday and you'll understand all the material for the exams.
Great professor. Dr. Kershner keeps things interesting, and is always there to help if you need it. He takes forever to grade exams. Attendance is not required, but he pulls all exam material from lecture notes.
Very good professor. Knows what he's talking about. TAKE NOTES! The tests are based off of mainly notes. One bad thing about him, He takes FOREVER to grade exams! That gets really annoying fast!
"Wicked Cool" professor. I especially enjoyed the lectures about viruses. He keeps the lectures interesting. Slides are mostly pictures for visual aid. He writes notes by hand, which makes it very easy to keep up and understand if you miss something he says. Sadly, the lab that comes packaged with his course isn't useful in any way.
Meh. Super boring instructor, lectures feel really long because he teaches really slow. Exams are easy, I have hardly studied for the class and will get an A. He's nice and all but you have to go to lecture because he puts information on slides and refuses to post them online.
Dr Kershner is my favorite Professor of all time! He's so involved in what he's teacher and genuinely loves what he does. STUDY YOUR NOTES, tests come DIRECTLY from the lecture. Make a study outline of the notes for the test 3 days before and read over it once or twice a day, and SHOW UP. That's all I did and I got an A
Hands down the BEST professor I have had so far. Dr. Kershner is extremely engaged in what he teaches and he is always willing to help or explain subjects more in depth for those who need. Attendance to lecture is mandatory but just take notes and pay attention and the class is not very difficult. The man is hilarious.
Easily one of the best professors in the Bio department. Kershner is a great guy that wants his students to do well. Lab for class was fun and he is always willing to help his students.
Really cool professor, tries to make the class interesting and obviously enjoys what he teaches. Be warned:DO NOT text or use your phone in class, he gets really angry and will call you out. He can be moody and is easily irritated, i.e. from people talking when class is starting and phone use. Overall, really likable guy and easy class. Lab is dumb
Kershner is my favorite bio teacher. He is really engaged with his students, he loves the subject matter a lot and is really funny! His lab practicals are really hard, so study!! Don't cram! His regular exams are straight from his notes, no real secret! Take this guy!
Kershner is my favorite bio teacher. He is really engaged with his students, he loves the subject matter a lot and is really funny! His lab practicals are really hard, so study!! Don't cram! His regular exams are straight from his notes.
Great teacher. Goes through notes very well he says notes you take in class are on the test-and that''s true. Very good teacher won''t put up with talkingcellphones or bs. Would highly recommend him for any class you can get him as a professor in
Kershner is one of my favorite professors so far He's down to earth and has a sense of humor, but also has a passion for he teaches so he's very professional, too. Make sure you attend every lecture and take good notes Don't have your phone out either, he won't hesitate to call you out. Study all your notes and compare it to the book for tests
Awesome Professor! Writes his notes as your write them so you can keep up during lectures. Tests aren't easy, but if you show up to class understand the concepts you will do just fine. Doesn't usually test over small details. Gives extra credit and is glad to help if you need it. Really nice guy. I would suggest taking him if you can.
The best professor I've had at Kent State! Very clear in his lecture. Makes you WANT to learn to material. Has a great knowledge and passion for this class. I loved going to class every day and the lab was extremely fun! If you like to learn about the Vert World, this is the guy to go to. Best Class Ever. "HERE FISH!" - Gotta have a good fish call.
His lectures were always entertaining, he always made sure everyone had time to copy the slides since he doesn't post them. As long as you show up and pay attention you'll pass.
Great guy. Attendance not mandatory, but definitely get the notes if you miss class. Tests are easy if you study, multiple choice and extended response. He definitely knows what he is talking about, and if you're confused on something, don't be afraid to use office hours.
I haven't respected many professors like the way I respect Dr. Kershner. He knows what he is talking about and is willing to work with the class (asking if everyone has the notes down, ect) Such a cool person but not the easiest A. Exams can be tough, just study EVERYTHING. Don't miss class unless you need to. Doesn't take attendance.
Alot of notes in class. Alot to study. Slow exam grader and nice to talk to. Overall a pretty decent class.
He is definitely a nice guy. He hand writes all of the notes so you have to show up. All of the tests are lecture based and you only use the book for quizzesquizzamslab. He does a lot of half sheet extra credit which is only worth half a point. I personally thought some of his tests were touch. You HAVE to know the stuff. Not based on memorizing.
He's a nice guy but as far as teaching goes, his lectures are jumbled and confusing most of the time. He goes off topic a lot. Definitely read the recommended chapters in your book. Don't skip lecture too much; there are things from his lectures that are not in the book that appear on exams. His tests can be hard at times so make sure you study.
I really enjoy Dr. Kershners lectures, he writes down all the notes as you do you if you show up you have everything you need for the tests.
He is an awesome guy! he really knows what he is talking about. If you study the material you should be fine. There are only four exams and lectures do seem to be long but it isn't as hard as other lecture classes. If you need help seriously just ask him. You should go to the lectures or at least get the notes.
His lectures are clear and he is a great teacher. The only hard thing are the tests which are even difficult when you study. The reason being is that they are multiple choice and he gives you three different answers for A, B, and C. Then for D he gives you the option both A and B, and for E he gives you both B and C. Then all of the above. Good Luk
He is an amazing professor. He is a great guy and lectures can sometimes drag on, but he makes it funny and interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly recommend not skipping because his tests are challenging.
This guy was GREAT. You gotta have an interest in the study of life to really enjoy the lectures. He always had funny technical errors on his computer. But the lab killed me, and I got a C+ lol. Not his fault though!
I 3 Kersh. He da best
Dr. Kershner knows everything and beyond to teach the course and gives notes off his head no premade notes. His biggest shortcoming as a professor is his ability to HELP students. He is very easily perturbed and takes extremely long to return grades, never returns emails, he is just engulfed in his own research not undergrads. Work very hard A.
He knows how to engage the class and keep you interested with his humor and use of slides, videos, and a healthy dose of david attenborough. His labs are super fun and hands on, however be prepared to learn lots of scientific names. He was my favorite professor while in at Kent.
I loved this class. Dr. Kershner is very knowledgable and is a very nice guy. Make sure you go to lecture because he makes the test based on what he talked about in class. His tests are pretty tough but doable as long as you study in advance. I would highly recommend having him as a professor.
Dr. Kershner gives clear, detailed notes, but doesn't put any online. He writes the notes in class as we go through the lecture. He is somewhat rude and easily angered. He takes around 2.5-3 weeks to upload tests.
He is an all around great professor. Go to class and write exactly what he does, everything is very straight forward.
Kershner is hilarious and relates most topics to real life situations and current events. He's super passionate about biology. His tests are lengthy but if you go to class, take good notes and study you'll do fine. He gives extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester and they are super easy. I would definitely take his class again.
He's really funny in how excited he gets about Bio Diversity. Super nice guy and clearly passionate about the subject. He doesn't take attendance points but you need to go to his lectures because he literally writes the notes for you and is great about answering questions. Tests are tricky but mostly memorization. 10/10 highly recommend.
Dr. Kershner is very thorough in lecture, he practically makes the notes for you and all you have to do is copy. Lab is easy, hands on, and helped my grade a lot. I never opened the text book once and he only uploaded homework online the last week of class. His exams can be tricky because he puts a lot of possible right answers on multiple choice.
Tough grader, and his tests are pretty difficult because of how he does answers (you can use his tests to take the test though). Lecture can get boring, but he does his best and you can tell he enjoys what he teaches. Have to go to class because his tests are pretty much straight from his notes and he doesnt post them online.
Dr. Kershner is a great professor who is really passionate about what he teaches. I found myself getting so absorbed into his lectures. His exams are easy if you just make some flashcards and study a few days before the exams. The online homework is annoying but the rest of the class is great.
Professor Kershner is lectures a lot but makes the class enjoyable.
Kershner is one of the best professors I've had, his class actually helped me pick my major in biology! This class was very enjoyable, but the tests were unnecessarily hard. He gives extra credit during the end of the semester, so don't panic if you do badly on an exam.
Dr. Kershner is definitely one of my favorite professors. He explains all of the material in depth and if you attend every class and pay attention, there is no reason that you shouldn't pass the class. The tests are somewhat challenging and so is MasteringBiology but the homework assignments prepare you for the tests. Overall, he is great.
He is a great professor but you have to go to class in order to pass the class. He takes his good time to grade things and won't put grades in for weeks at a time and is kind of rude one on one. But in class he is funny and shows his knowledge and love for the subject. Overall good class but avoid one on one time with him if you can.
Nice teacher, takes forever to grade things. Class is easy if you attend lecture and take notes. Make quizlets for the info. He uses so much paper every day for his notes but he's an ecologist....
He is an awesome professor, but make sure you go to class and take very good notes! Expect to write/type the whole period. Try not to get overwhelmed, just review your notes after class and you will be fine! His tests are manageable as long as you study the notes. He doesn't put anything on the test that you didn't take notes on in class! :)
Not a good professor so I would avoid if possible. Tests seem impossible and always have trick questions.
Great professor. He takes notes with you so you know exactly what to write down and he is very passionate about what he is teaching. Lectures can get really boring though, but make sure you go and get the notes. The exams are a little difficult, but if you pay attention and study you will do fine.
Class is easy if you show up and actually do work. If you put in the effort, you'll be fine. He's a sweet guy but one of the most boring people I've ever met. He speaks in one tone of voice and nearly puts me to sleep every class! Again, not a bad guy, his class is fine. I just reccomend bringing coffee or you'll be asleep in 5mins flat.
If you dont show up for class you wont pass. All of his tests are based off of his own notes so even doing the readings wont help. Not every instruction he gives is clear and he doesnt answer his emails. Wasnt a huge help when I was struggling in his class. Was rude when I asked questions after a lecture.
Dr Kershner is a really nice guy. The lectures sometimes boring but make sure to take good notes since you will be tested on them. Great professor overall, exams are not hard if you studied notes, and he is always ready to help you if you struggle. Take him!
Dr. Kershner's Biological Diversity class is definitely a challenging class, however if you attend all the lectures, write out all the notes the exact way he does, and study for the exams, it is very manageable. Dr. Kershner is a great guy, is very passionate about the subject, and is very fair. You respect him, he respects you. Great professor!
He writes his own notes off the top of his head which can be kinda annoying, but the tests are based exactly on the notes. His exams are difficult but not impossible, if you study and dont cram you will be good. I got a C on all the exams, but was able to pass with a B. Definitely easier than other Bio professors. Must go to class to pass.
he moves at a great pace when lecturing! as long as you show up and take good notes it's a very easy semester.
I really enjoyed my time in Dr. Kershners Bio Diversity class last semester. He made the lectures interesting and was very laid back on the course load. You need to attend lectures to do well on the tests, I went through the entire course and never once used the book. If you study his lectures and pay attention in class, you'll do just fine.
Kershner was absolutely amazing in my opinion. All of his exams are based on the notes that he takes with us in class. In the week before the exam, hell also list some of the things you definitely need to know. His homeworks were simple enough, and theres really not a lot. He also gives extra credit throughout the semester, so be on the lookout!
Love this guy! He writes his notes with you and draws things instead of just putting slides up for you to copy. Great examples of concepts and really gets you interested in the content. Very fair class in my opinion, put some time in to study well and you should be rewarded with a good grade. Funny guy, very clear that he loves what he does!
By far the best biology teacher I've ever had. He takes notes with you in class which is super nice. All tests are based on his notes that you take in class, I highly recommend you don't skip class, you'll miss out on a lot. Study a week before, it helps a lot.
One of the best I had at Kent State! Kersh definitely knows his stuff and he really wants students to succeed. I would recommend him to anyone!
One of my favorite professors ever. He clearly enjoys the material he's teaching, and along with lecturing in the form of taking notes alongside students, he shows a lot of really interesting videos related to the subject. His class is engaging, fun, and honestly fairly easy if you just put some effort into studying. Would definitely take again!
Dr. K is an amazing professor and very well respected. He tries his best to keep his lectures interesting and does a good job with it. Attendance isn't required but he does not post lectures onto blackboard. Exams are all short answer and very conceptual. The only complaint I have about Dr. K is that it takes FOREVER to get exam grades back.
Dr. Kershner is AWESOME! His lectures are intriguing and he's very kind and helpful.
Dr. Kershner is great! While his lectures are long, he makes them entertaining and is always willing to answer questions. His exams go right along with the powerpoints and were extremely easy if you pay attention. Nothing about the course was super challenging.
Very funny professor with interesting lectures and examples but such a difficult course if you dont have a lot of time. Many assignments and homework especially if youre taking the lab along with it. It can get very stressful. However, if you stay up on it and manage your time well youll pass.
I highly recommend taking a course with Dr. Kershner if you can. Even with everything online, he tries to make lecture as entertaining as possible, and you can tell he's truly passionate about what he does. Some people in the class struggled, but if you take notes during lecture and have them during the exams, you'll be fine. Super easy class imo
This class is an easy A. He's a nice guy and his lectures are interesting. Show up to class, take notes and you'll do great. He makes dad jokes during class and you can tell he really loves Bio.
Religiously wears Hawaiian shirts. Will sing the mating calls of lacewing flies. Shows cool videos and examples in class. Very passionate about Biology. 10/10 great guy. Very dadlike.
I LOVED taking Biodiversity with this professor. He is HILARIOUS and always makes the lectures so entertaining. He is very knowledgeable on all subjects and always answers questions thoroughly
Great! Not a single complaint about this professor. He is a great lecturer and he puts time on his end into his lectures and caring for the students. 10/10 recommend.
Best bio professor ever! Tests are super easy as long as you go to class and pay attention. Studied all my lectures for exams and did good! Very caring professor and is willing to make time to help you. Shows many videos that help you understand the material
Amazing prof and funny, you can tell he enjoys what he does. Very lecture based but make sure you pay attention. Love this class
All i can say after taking this course is that i am truly inspired. For a large lecture class Kershner is an amazing teacher and biologist. His love for the outdoors and comedy within the classroom makes this a very enjoyable course. If you are taking bio i would do anything in my power to have him as a professor he is exceptional!!!!!
Dr. Kershner is easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. Though the lecture is large he makes it interesting no matter what. He is funny and extremely informative, there's no attendance but going to lecture and taking good notes will benefit you an extreme amount. I would go out of my way to have him for bio diversity he is the BEST!
Dr. Kershner has a great outline for his lectures. He clearly states where material for each exam will be and has some extra assignments other than exams. Even in big lecture halls, he really tries to make his material engaging and exciting. His tests are kind of hard because they're very detailed in specific plants, protists, etc. Study hard!
Dr. Kershner is easily one of my favorite teachers/professors I've ever had. He makes lectures easy to follow and has fun while lecturing. He uses pictures and videos to demonstrate concepts and as a visual learner, this has really helped me. I recommend taking computerized notes instead of hand-written notes because he does talk fast.
just a really good, genuine guy. gives good information and class was enjoyable.
Dr. Kershner is a very good professor. He's nice and he takes notes along with you in class, there are a few random assignments that he grades for completion but doesn't announce them so you have to attend class. He ended up giving take home tests for the 3rd exam and the final exam, with 3-4 in-depth extended response which was nice.
If you have the opportunity to take Professor Kershner for Bio-Diversity, do it! He is the most caring professor I've ever had and it is evident that he really cares about his students. He understands it is a difficult class and does his best to ensure everyone understands. He's extremely personable and always available to answer questions.
Prof. Kershner is amazing! He really knows his stuff about Biological Diversity. He takes notes with you in class. He explicitly tells you what to study for the quizzes. He truly wants you to succeed in his course. There are some extra credit opportunities in his class. I would highly recommend him for any biology course.
Absolutely amazing. Caring, funny, passionate about what he teaches! Best academic class I've taken through college so far
The best prof I've had, and I'm a junior. Funny, caring, nice, knowledgeable. There's no hw so grades for the lecture are extended response exams based. Lab is heavy, lots of memorization but has fun field trips. Come to class cause he will randomly give really easy extra credit in class. Writes notes and presents slides in class, easy to follow.
His lecture was great, he explains everything required to know for the exam, and writes notes with you instead of reading off of a slide. v lecture heavy though, if you don't study and the info is not already familiar with you, you will struggle. thankfully he promotes SI and lots of tutoring
Dr. Kershner is great... he always makes jokes during lectures, and is very good at explaining material. He takes notes with you during lecture, so you know exactly what to write down. I never felt overwhelmed studying for an exam because I had all the information easily accessible to me.
Gave clear lectures with his handwritten notes. A few homework assignments are given out but they are pretty simple. Very funny in class and was able to keep us attentive throughout the lecture.
I loved taking his class way more than I expected to. He'll tell you exactly what to expect on the exams and he even gives plenty of easy bonus questions. Not a lot of homework so study well for the exams. Go to SI if you can it made the class that much easier. 10/10 the best professor I've ever had.
He is just such a joy. While the content can range (in Biodiversity) from interesting to a bit boring, you can just tell he is passionate about this stuff. Always positive. He also tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. The notes are helpful
Wicked cool professor. Lectures were never boring, and he shows true and genuine passion for the things he talks about. Exams were not overly difficult if you study, exactly what is in the notes. Extra credit offered on exams, and randomly in class through the semester. Not much online homework, but it was useful study material. Well paced class.
AMAZING! He has interesting lectures, gives a lot of personal stories/videos to help you understand concepts. Takes notes with you and only tests you on lecture notes, so it's very clear what the tests are on.
Professor Kershner is an amazing lecturer who keeps the class engaging. His clear explanations and use of visuals make the material easy to understand. unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
Dr. Kershner is very good at explaining concepts and goes at a good pace during his lectures. I never felt behind or lost. As long as you copy down everything he writes in class into your notes and look over it you will do fine on exams. He's willing to help you out and is a kind person.
Dr. Kershner is one of the best professors I have ever had! I only took this class for the honors credit and I am so glad that I did! There is not a ton of homework and he really cares about his students. As long as you take good notes you will do fine. Also, he will let you take a picture of his notes if you fall behind or miss a lecture!
Dr. Kershner is one of if not the best professor I've had throughout all my schooling. He keeps lectures very engaging, showing videos and taking notes with the class. Exams are all short-answer and application based, which seems daunting but there are opportunities for partial and extra credit. He also offers in-class extra credit opportunities.
He's great. He takes notes with you and anything on the exam is something he's gone over in lecture/notes you've taken. You really have to try to fail. 10/10 prof
Dr. Kershner's special topics course was super inspirational! I loved this course and I think he did a great job explaining the material in a meaningful way.
