OMG!!!! when you have to have a 20 point curve on your test... something just is not right... this is a boring class... and the test are super crazy... like its 80 questions...with no study guides or anything... its just insane... do not take... back away now
Lecture in class has no relevancy towards the test. All testable material is pulled from the text book's web site. Study the web site you get an A. If you buy a teacher's edition (Amazon) you will get acess to the test ahead of time since all tests are pulled from the teacher's web site.
Interesting lechtures in class but the have no relevancy to the test. Everything is pulled from the book , especially the "boxes" on the pages. Tests are very hard and are date and person specific. Good Luck.
It is obvious that he has a lot of knowledge about the subject but he is an awful teacher. He's the worst teacher I've had my entire life. His tests are awful no one ever got an A until he gave like 20 point curves. It was really embarassing and he's very boring on top of everything.
Good teacher, fun class, lots of papers (ease on the paper grading), difficult final
Great teacher, classes are fun and conversation is interesting. Must read the assignments to stay up on class conversation. Paper's are graded easy as long as grammer and knowledge are both good, but the final can be difficult concentrate on the main points for each arthur's ideas. If you cannot pass POLS 1101 you need to quite school.
Good teacher if you have half a brain. He is a true college professor. Very intellectual.
He is very against any type of organized religion.Has made many students uncomfortable with things he has said regarding faith/God
All right, so I was never interested in Poly Sci, so you probably shouldn't listen to me if you like Poly Sci. :) His class is the most dull class I've ever went to. I've never been so bored in my life. So, good luck if you have him. =D
It is the most boring class I've ever had. If you can keep up with all the boring readings and taking notes FAST, you will be okay. However he doesn't give you much help when you ask him something. I would suggest that you avoid this class if you can.
At least for POLS 1101, it's hard to tell what Kremer is looking for. Our tests were 15 multiple choice q's, and then a FORMAL essay. He doesn't write comments on what you can do next time to improve the essay, either. Seems very anti-religious. Made untrue and seemingly demeaning statements regarding religions (i.e. Christianity, Islam, Judaism)
Prof. Kremer is the best teacher on campus. He is hardly anti-religious. He simply challeneges you to think. He goes through each major book assigned carefully. Memorizing is not enough to do well. Pay attention and follow class discussions. I would take ANY class he teaches. However, he is NOT easy so study -- but you will learn a lot. Trust me.

AT FIRST I HATED THE CLASS BECAUSE HIS METHOD OF TEACHING WAS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I HAVE HAD BEFORE. I LIKE HOW THE ESSAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE ESSAY (65%) BECAUSE IF IT WAS ALL MUTLIPLE CHOICE WE ALL WOULD FAIL. I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN.
He is somewhat eccentric and fun and will push many sheltered people's buttons which makes for an interesting class. No he doesn't really care about what u have to say but he will listen and engage if u are remotely interesting.. he also seems to curve his gradings based on how much u participate in class so try to pretend u have something to say
not interesting

This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He was condescending, unorganized, and rude. He writes a few words on the board for his outline but basically he has no idea what he is going to talk about until he speaks. The highest grade on any test was an 81 from one guy. He does curve but it does not help.
If you are an A student, avoid him. If you are taking this class for no grade, it is very interesting. He knows his stuff and challenges you to think. I got a B and had no hope of an A. A lot of reading. Class is lecture and discussion. One test and two papers. I do well on papers, but got straight B's. No clue what he wanted. Essay exams.
the previous students that gave thier accounts were obviously slanderous, pig-brained nothings. To think, thinking in college? how extraoridnary! yeah...laughable men, that time is here
Dr. Kremer is probably one of the smartest professors at KSU. Do the work, go to class and don't make comments without being able to back yourself and you will be fine.
Professor Kremer is a brilliant man. His lectures are fascinating and it may seem that he isn't interested in your comments, but he's just trying to focus the discussion. If you really listen to what he is saying, he explains thing wonderfully and makes you think. He is awesome!
Kremer is amazingly smart. He knows his material and knows it well. This class was very different than the standard government class I had in high school. This class was hard- the tests were very difficult. I have learned a lot in this class, I just wish it showed more in my grade. So take this class if youre ready to learn some good stuff :).
I had Dr. Kremer for great political thinkers. You have to attend class fairly often because he wants his papers to be exactly what he said in class on a particular topic. He doesn't really like you to insert your opinion, becuase you'll be wrong 95% of the time. But the class wans't hard and he is a nice guy overall.
I had 1101 & 4423. He graduated from Chicago and worked a few semesters at Yale and Harvard. He's a personal friend of Mansfield and one of few political theorist elites. Ask him after class for clarity and he will be happy to. Read the books. If you were disappointed about not getting an A welcome to college. I got A's in both so it's possible.
I know most of us take classes for one reason only: to get good grades to raise ur gpa and graduate Well then take this professor if you are just looking for a "B" because he will give you tht atleast! Most importantly he is the smartest prof on campus he will open up your eyes to look at the world in a whole new way:if ur lucky u'll get to take hi
This professor maybe brilliant but he cannot teach. I was in his class every day and took rigorous notes and talked with him after class about the tests and what not. I still got a C. His tests were based on opinions and it was next to impossible to connect what he was saying in class to his tests questions.
Dr. Kremer is a great professor that will challenge you to see the world through a different perspective.
Very interesting class.Kremer is by far the most intelligent prof I've ever had.Not for close-minded or religious students.I was told that he doesn't give A's but I got an A on both essays and the final which is essay format as well. Will correct you if you disagree w/ him.Go to class, read the books, take notes, interpret as he does on the essays.
I had the privilege of studying with Dr. Kremer in France. I do not go to KSU, but I thought about going there for Grad school, just to study under him. He is one of the most brilliant men in the COUNTRY. Don't just stop at politics or philosophers. Ask him about Shakespeare or art. He knows it all.
honestly find him to be extremely pretentious. He is insulting and annoying. He tells you his opinions and nothing is a discussion. I am neither religious, nor narrow minded however never have I been so insulted because of another persons narrow mindedness. Ive never felt more worried my grade would suffer because i spoke my opinion in class.
He is very INTELLEGENT. I truly loved the way he talked.Very hot!!!!!:) But the class was very difficult. Especially tests! My essays saved me every time. I would not recommend anyone taking him IN SUMMER!You will just spend all your time with the "Democracy in America"! Very philosophical guy! If you like that kind of stuff...he is the one!
He is probably the most brilliant man I think I have ever met! HE IS AMAZING! His classes are great, I have taken him for 3 classes. PUT RELIGION ASIDE, KEEP AND OPEN MIND! He translates the books through the authors they are not his opinions! He is a little socially awkward but he is a great teacher! EASY A, if u come, and pay attn!
Overrated professor. Regurgitating his opinion as your own on essays and in class is the only way to get an A or B. Actually reminds me a little bit of Kramer from seinfeld: huge ego, dresses like a dweeb and laughs hysterically at his own jokes.
Dr Kremer is an exceptional teacher, possibly the best KSU has to offer. Lots of reading, but lectures cover all necessary material. The discussions are great and the grading is easy!
He just teaches his personal opinion. He extremely specific on his tests. The entire class is a lose lose situation. DO NOT take him.
Dr. Kremer is a great professor and he doesn't ever mention his own opinions: except his opinions on bs comments made by retards in his class. He teaches every writer as if that was his opinion so that you can be fully emersed in the ideas of the writers. Its a very useful and interesting way to be taught. Great prof.
Kremer is an awesome professor.. You don't have to regurgitate to get an A that's what slackers who can't form their own opinions do. I always write my own opinions (that differ from his) and get A's- you just have to be very logical. His use of the Socratic method really helps you to understand and remember the info. A++++ I've had all his classe
The philosophies taught will push you out of your comfort zone and leaving you wondering why you believe what you believe. For those willing to be challenged to think, his classes are the best. No Dumb@$$es though. He'll pounce on stupidity. Ladies, be warned. He is so brilliant it is sexy!!!
He teaches his personal opinion. I have no idea how I got an A in his class, because I would verbally disagree with him every day. He is not open to any opinions other than his own. If you take him, take VERY detailed notes, and just regurgitate the information.
Kremer is not for the weak; he does'nt teach his own opinions. Anyone with half brain should know that he teaches great books in a way to test your ability to defend your dogmas. You are getting a true education. He is lively and engaging. I love his classes and would take anything he teaches, including retaking the ones I have already had.
Best prof I've ever had! Not for someone who hates writing papers but is perfect for someone who hates in-class exams. All of his readings are interesting and his lectures are often the highlight of my day.
The only reason I did well in his class was because I wrote what he wanted to hear. He asks for your opinion BUT he really just wants you to agree with his. If you truly agree with him then you will love his class if not, drop it !
I agree with the previous reviewer: Kremer's lectures ARE the highlight of my day. I cannot get enough of his classes. Such a gem. I wish we taught more classes. I want to take them all!
He is a little strange, but he is extremely intelligent!
Kremer is extremely biased and it appears he gives grades based on personal information about the student. Also, he is the type who enjoys hearing his own voice. My biggest problem with him is that he will give you a low grade but not tell you why even when you confront him. This leads to some people question the basis for his grading.
Seems to make up some of the stuff we talk about. We read books on different philosophers & he would draw out the intentions of the author. Most of his ideas seemed far fetched to me. Anyways his idea is the only one that matters, if you have an opinion, keep it to yourself. If you want a good grade write exactly what he talks about in lectures.
Best professor ever and a genuinely nice person (at least to me). I've never made anything lower than a 95 on my papers and I've taken him 3 times. You MUST have a passion for political philosophy or at least be open to it in order to enjoy his classes.
Prof Kremer is the best teacher at KSU. He teaches great books that no other prof teaches (or could understand and/or explain), and he does so in the clearest and most engaging manner. My only gripe is that he does not teach enough new classes! I love him and want more classes. He is not bias. He demands reasons for your opinions, not "feelings."
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is University of Chicago / University of Toronto Alum and is very well deserving of it. He has taught at Harvard and other well distinguished school. I've taken multiple classes from him and truly enjoyed them. He gives you deep analysis of the works you may be reading in a crystal clear manor.
Professor Kremer is a unique professor in the Social Sciences. He teaches from the "great books" and aims for reflection and comprehension. He has three papers and an in-class exam. I will agree that his grading methodology is yet to be discerned. I have never taken notes in his class and I have never made less than an A. I would recommend him.
I have never been so engaged in a class like Prof. Kremer's class. I found the Great Political class interesting, applied to political leaders and made total sense. I wish I could take him again, but I am graduating. He's the best
The most interesting professor I have ever taken during my undergrad! He is very intelligent and knows the material he teaches very well! I am taking another one of his classes next semester! He definitely challenges you to think in class!
I didn't know what to expect coming into this class, but now I'm WAY more interested in my Political science major because of his class. Attendance wasn't required but I wouldn't miss a class. If you show up and take good notes and use those notes to help write the essays, you'll get an easy A. He likes to hear himself through your papers for sure.
He lectures all class, every class. Tries to encite participation but usually doesn't work. The class is boring, honestly. Three papers and an essay final. However, if you just write exactly what he says for your papers you'll get an a. I got an a and didn't buy a single book.
Kremer is brilliant. The class is a complete lecture class. You read the books and write papers including the notes from lectures. There is 3 papers and a final. I would recommend him to anybody. His class has been very rewarding.
If you have an interest in learning, take Dr. Kremer. He assigned several books, lectured about them in class and assigned 3 papers of 5 pages each. There was also an essay-based final exam. Go to class, take notes, read the books, and enjoy your A. Also, he doesn't want to "hear himself" in your papers, he wants to see that you understood the book.
Professor Kremer is the closest to Dumbledore I've seen yet, haha--very smart, and teaches you far more than just dates and names. He teaches things you'll actually carry with you, that will shape your worldview. If you can, take a class or two with him. You'll learn things.
I started the semester by hating him. However by the end he had grown on me. I wrote the papers with my own opinions and still got good grades. You do need to go to class however. He’s insanely intelligent! He only wants his students to be knowledgeable and be able to back up their opinions. If you can do that you have nothing to worry about.
Unlike others in my class, I actually enjoyed coming to class. I loved the stuff I was learning. But I learned after the first paper, do NOT just write down what he says, use tons of quotes. Attendance is not mandatory, but it helps to go. He tries to get people involved during class but it never worked. All in all I got an A, so I say take him.
He is extremely intelligent. It's important that you don't just use what he says in class, but also state your opinion WITH evidence and you will more than likely get a higher grade on your papers. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but it helps if you come to class. Definitely recommend!
Professor Kremer isn't easy, but he really teaches the classics--Plato, Homer, Tocqueville--in a way that you can understand and actually applies to your life. This isn't a useless class, or a class that teaches you job skills--Kremer teaches things you can keep and apply to your life. Highly recommend.
He is a great teacher, but you have to pay attention and take notes. His papers are not difficult if you take notes! The reading can be pretty boring, but if you come to class and take the notes you don't really need to read. Great guy! If your sensitive or super religious please don't take this class and ruin it for everyone. I'd take him again.
This class is why I changed my major. He is extremely intelligent, insightful and very knowledgeable of the material. He wants discussion and tries to encourage it. His papers are not difficult if you do the reading and take notes. He makes you think about the material and the state of society as a whole. A lot of reading, but it's interesting.
He isn't a nice person, and he knows it. Asking him a question after class is a dreadful, hair-raising experience. He is one of the coldest human beings I have ever met.
Great teacher, in the truest sense of the word. If you have only taken POLS 1101 and hated this Prof., then you are the problem. Kremer must be getting a sweet deal from KSU because I think he should be teaching doctorate students at Yale or Cambridge. Take his classes!!!!
Prof Kremer is hands down the greatest mind on this campus. No one teaches like him or teaches the Great Books that he covers. He is only for those who are serious and genuinely seek a true liberating education. I wish his were the only courses I have to take. Everything else is superfluous child's play
Dr Kremer is an awesome teacher! lectures the entire class, very insightful and thought provoking. He takes the role of devils advocate to help the class better understand the author and characters of the books. Greek philosophy is his specialty, particularly Plato and Socrates. If you need the great political thinkers course, take it from him
Kremer is smart, but a cold and terrible instructor. In this class, he lectures that's it, no guidance. The class consists of reading 4 books; The overall grade comes from 2 essays-40% each + a final- 20%. He doesn't announce when the essays will be issued or due until he spontaneously posts the topics & then it's due in 6 days. AVOID THIS CLASS!
This man should be required to take. Best professor at KSU and not only for academic purposes but for life lessons. It's impossible to not come out changed after the majority of his lectures. Go to his lectures and you will be sure to get an A.
The BEST prof Ive ever had. Each lecture is inspiring, amazing, and motivating. He challenges you to think and he takes the side of the book, which makes you tackle the hard questions. He is tough and stern and accepts no BS. Teachings can be applied to RL and he is brilliant in his field. Great prof and it should be required to take him. TAKE HIM!
THIS class is the BEGINNING of education. If forced with the choice, I would throw away ALL other classes I have taken (or at most, spare Dr. Kremer's other courses, but this one is the best). It is that important! Also, BUY THE BOOKS; they're worth keeping! Take this class; don't continue grazing in ignorance with the "herd."
Another great course with Dr. Kremer. You'll read "the Closing of the American Mind" by Allan Bloom who gives a thorough diagnosis for the disease ailing universities in America. The indoctrination stops in this course. Also, buy the book; it is not a typical throwaway or unworthy rental; it is worth every cent of its inexpensive price. Enjoy!
Like his other courses, you will enjoy great lectures, great discussions, and most importantly--great books! The best work is Alexis de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America," which is probably the premiere analysis of America. Even though it was written over a century ago, it is still as relevant as ever. Moreover, it is profoundly prophetic!
I have taken more than one of his classes and he has been excellent in both. This particular class was Great Political Thinkers. It is very reading intensive and at times hard to keep up. However, he goes over all the general ideas in each book read in class. As long as you show up and pay attention in class, you should do just fine.
I went to class once a week, read the books, and got an easy A. Get ready to write! Kremer goes by what the author writes religiously, even if he doesn't believe it himself, which can be frustrating. If you can dive into a book and appreciate all forms of political opinion Kremer's class is perfect.
Overall, I wasn't impressed. It was discouraging to start the semester with outlines for each recorded lecture and not have any by the last module. There was no consistency in the content presentation. The lectures were recorded by students, so the quality is not consistent. Overall it was average, but not exceptional. I'm glad I'm finished.
Professor Kremer is by far one of the hardest professors. He expects a lot of analysis and research papers. He is a tough grader, but he gives you the grade that you deserve. if you put little to no effort into his class, you probably won't pass. Show up, do the readings, and work hard.
Really weird and rude professor. He is a just a strange guy in general. However, I did land a B in the course. Hated his opinion of Socrates, but he knows his stuff. Just read the material you'll be fine. There is ALOT of reading! I took Political Ideologies.
No better professor at KSU than Kremer. Truly profound lectures, first time I have ever felt educated after leaving a classroom.
Professor Kremer should be taken by everybody. He knows the material he teaches like the back of his hand, and he will truly make you think/discuss profound topics that do not get brought up nowadays. His class and syllabus structure are simple and if you come to class and take notes you will easily pass. I wish there were more professors like him.
KSU won the Socratic lottery by having Dr. Kremer among its faculty. Here he is in the flesh -- Socrates -- at a state school amidst the fools gold of modern academe and societal democratic noise. KSU is beyond lucky to have such a mind. Take him if you are serious about a genuine education. Otherwise you just wont get it. Trust me
If you're not an absolute bum & actually care about listening to something worth knowing, take him. It's an easy class. You don't really even have to read the assigned books, just show up to class and listen. Grades: 2 papers (40% each) & final exam (20%). Both paper are 5 pages. You decide what citation format.
I thought he was great. He gives the perspective of the writers we study even if it sounds ridiculous in today's time. Only 3 papers, attendance not required. He lectures the whole time whether someones responds or not. Take detailed notes and the paper will be a piece of cake. Easy class if you can show up.
He is the worst professor at KSU. Does not care about his students. I went to his office several times to speak with him about my grades, and he was not approachable. You have 2 essays and one final.
Not sure why he got bad reviews, hes great. For starters, your books for this course are $5 Barnes and noble classics which are actually great books unless youre lame. He provides lectures that are actually intelligent. He is awkward, but I am too I suppose so it never bothered me.
Do not take POLS 1101 with this professor. I took it in the summer and it was harder than my advanced statistics class. I also think the lectures were recorded with what it can only be either a potato or a microwave, since the sound quality was so poor. This class is more philosophical than it is a government class.
The best professor I had in my entire education. The philosophy classes helped me understand so many different perspectives.
Three papers and a final. Attendance isn't required, but I highly recommend it. He assigns really good books but you can get by without reading them so long as you show up to class and take detailed notes. He's extremely intelligent, knows what he's talking about, unfiltered, and makes you think about life and society. You won't regret taking him.
Kremer is very Okay. My one warning is that you should NOT take his senior seminar class if you already have ideas of what you want your senior thesis to be. Kremer heavily limits the topic of your paper down to one book by his favorite author. If you want more freedom with your thesis take someone else.
Kremer is extremely good and instead of just trying to give people tests and credit, he attempts to make you think about life and improve. Strongly recommend. Attend class, take notes. Just don't start reading fashion magazines in front of class, a girl did that once and he told her to leave.
I took him for colloquium in the Great books program. We only had two papers on the books, but he gave one sentence of feedback on the first one and we never saw feedback on the second one. He thought there was only one right interpretation of the books, and if we disagreed he'd use what we said to fit his view. RIP future great books kids. BEWARE.
We had 3 papers, a final and 6 discussion posts all semester. You can get by writing the papers without reading the books. He didnt give us grades for the discussion posts until the end of the semester though. So the entire semester you worry if ur doing ok. He rarely contacted us or posted on d2l. Overall he's easy enough, but not very involved.
Kremer challenges you to think and his classes have been my favorite classes to date. Just a few discussion posts, 1 book, and 15 page essay based off the book. My only criticism is that he is not very involved in the online format and does not give grades until the end of the semester. But overall, he is an amazing professor.
Professor Kremer is a very insightful professor. I wasn't sure how this class would be online but he uploaded lectures onto D2L and it felt like an in person class. His lectures are very enlightening and changed how I look at political writing. You're graded on two papers, discussion posts and a final exam (3 questions).
I have never had such a difficult time in an online class. His syllabus is not even a page long and does not have office hours or any specifics about the course. He never posted grades so I still (even after getting my final grade) do not know what I got on any of the discussion posts we had to do or our final. Be prepared to be in the dark.
We only had 2 papers, the first one had minimal feedback and the second one was never actually graded. The topics were also just "pick a character and write about them." No rubric was provided for grading either.
