I took Dr. Lanier during the Fall 2016 semester and he is AWESOME! He does not take attendance, but you NEED the material to pass the test, so GO! His class almost never takes the entire class time, and he has in-class assignments every now and again that count. You chose to do a group presentation or a research paper that is a chunk of your grade.

Definitely recommend taking his class! Made the lectures interesting with personal stories to help remember things. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will do great! I went to every class every lecture.

Do NOT waste your money on a textbook, everything on a test is said directly in class. That said, attendance is not mandatory but you won't know anything if you don't come. I took this class thinking it would be long lectures and a lot of reading. It's not bad at all. Most days we were done in 30 mins. As soon as he finishes his bottle of water you are done for the day. The group project is easy as long as you put forth effort. No reason you should not pass

Overall, he's a really good professor. He made a potentially VERY boring class pretty interesting with an ample number of entertaining personal stories relating to the topics being discussed. He tells you not to buy the textbook, but if you plan on skipping a lot you'll desperately need it (like 85% of your grade is based off tests on the PPT's).

His lectures are always interesting, however, so it never feels like a chore to go to class. He is clear about what will be on the test and gives credit anywhere he can. Recommended.

Dr. Lanier is a great CJ professor who uses his own personal stories in lecture to help students remember material for the test - and it works. The tests can be difficult but all the information is provided in class. Although class isnt mandatory. it is important to go because there is no other way to get the material.

Absolutely loved his class! Not an easy A though.. but if you study you'll do great! I made an A+ in his CJ 280 class. Tests consist mostly of short answer, but he gives extra credit if you add things that weren't on it & he lets you know 80% of what will be on it. This class was by far the best option for a mandatory course. Mark uses stories to make a sort of dull topic really robust and interesting.

CJ280 with Mr. Lanier was one of those classes that I never wanted to skip. He was very funny, which helped wake me up at 9:30! He uses a lot of stories to make you remember the different theories, which is very helpful. His tests can be a little difficult, as he uses many short answers, but if you study what he gives you, youll be fine.

Dr. Lanier was a great instructor for 280. He was always interesting in his lecture and has plenty of experience in the field. His tests are unintentionally hard but if you study you should be fine.

Dr. Lanier is a wonderful professor. A textbook isnt required but he does give free textbooks for future courses and to help within this class. Hes hilarious and does care for his students if they put in the effort. He gives the choice of taking a final exam only if you have a C-. And you have the choice of doing a group presentation or a paper!

Great class -- teaches materials through stories, so class isn't boring and is easy to follow. Most of the grades are the test grades, but he'll tell you almost exactly what's on the test and will give extra credit for any extra information you put down which is incredibly helpful. No textbook though, so just show up for lecture and you're good.

Lanier really cares about what he teaches and tries to ensure that you understand what he's saying - but if you don't ask questions, you won't get answers, so don't expect him to spoon feed information.
