He's one of the best professors here at SDSU. I always looked forward to his lectures. He makes the material very easy to understand and entertaining. Unlike other professors he understands that not everyone is a "test taker" and lowers the value of the exams. Also there's no final, only 4 midterms. You won't regret taking his class.
This was the hardest class i have taken by far, this teacher gives no room for mess any messing up. Tests are all very rough, and situational based... not easy.
Amazing professor, gives good lectures despite the 400+ student class. Would recommend
Professor Laumakis is a pretry chill guy. He has a pretty simple guideline. Do your learnsmarts, study and show up to class for clicker points. Don't expect to study the vocab and pass. You need to be able to apply what you know to a situation. I could have received a better grade but I didn't study enough.
The syllabus is to general and is not specific to the class expectations. If you ask a question he can be rude and not helpful. He spends more time cracking jokes rather than clarifying our understanding of the material. I would not take this class again
Uses a clicker to take attendance, put that also gives you participation points Learning curve quizzes weekly online Hybrid class Now offering SI study sessions which really help
Dr. Laumakis is an amazing teacher! He is so helpful and honest, and really wants you to succeed. You have to work hard for your grades but it's a very interesting class that is personable and not boring. GO TO CLASS or at least give your friend your clicker cause those points count! Anyway take this class, you'll love it! I know I did!
Laumakis is a great professor, would recommend him to everyone. Course is tough, but if you go to class you should be fine.
I would definitely recommend taking him for PSY 101 as a freshman. His lectures cover almost everything that is on the test. DO NOT SKIP CLASS! Even missing one lecture will drop your grade about 2%. I could've received an A if I didn't miss two lectures. But overall, he explains stuff very well both online and in class. Don't need to read book.
Definitely not a class you can blow off. GO TO CLASS because just missing one day will drop your grade a couple percentage points. Clicker points are based on accuracy! GO TO SI SESSIONS FROM THE BEGINNING!!! they help tremendously. There is no way I would have passed that class without them. Don't just study vocab.. you won't pass.
PSY 101 was a great course! My first favorite hybrid course. Dr. Laumakis is clear with what he wants, and always posts his lectures online! GO TO SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION!!!! These are fun free tutor sessions! helped improved my grade!
Laumakis knows what he's doing and is pretty down to earth if you talk to him. Supplemental Instruction Sessions are offered and are super helpful in studying for the exam, so definitely make time to go there! If you do all your online homework (Launchpad) 120pts are added at the end and he gives attendance points as well as clicker question pts.
Love Laumakis!! He's a great teacher and a very straight forward grader. Tests really aren't bad, I never got lower than an 87.5. Hybrid class is fun, but go to lectures on thursdays for easy clicker points. Do the reading, go to class and take notes, and you'll get an A- at the least. I loved this class. SI may be useful to you! Take this class!!
Dope class, dope professor!
Funny and nice teacher, take good notes and youll do well, online once a week
Dr. Laumakis is such an awesome professor! He's very interesting and interactive in both the online and in class lecture. He is also very friendly and makes it very easy to approach him with questions! Go to Supplemental Instruction! I went on a regular basis and I don't think I would have done as well as I did in the class without it
keeps student engaged, is funny, and clarifies anything that you don't understand. Online lecture once a week then face to face lecture. Don't miss a day because he does do clicker and attendance points. Go to supplemental instruction, I didn't and passed with a C and regret that decision. Overall, great professor.
Dr. Laumakis is the only way to go for this class. He makes jokes (and surely the same ones every year) that crack the whole class up. He doesn't preach his subject or just throw random stuff at you. He makes sure you understand what you are learning and makes the material very clear. Put in the the time and effort and you will do well!!
He is a great professor, and the class is easy as long as you read the textbook and show up for clicker points. He explains everything thoroughly.
Great professor. Gives out clicker points so make sure you show up. Some reading online (but is super easy).. Had a hybrid class (meaning online as well as in class) but he records his lectures both online and in class so that if you miss an online class you can view material later. Only 4 tests (including final) and is very charismatic.
Love Laumakis! Just need to take notes on lecture and attend for clicker points. memorization, but not too in-depth. 4 tests I think it was, made flashcards and attend an SI session before each test and you're golden. Tests are multiple choice. Didn't read textbook at all but he pulls a few questions out of it.
He's one of the best teachers i've had ever. He is very clear and with the SI sessions(study groups led by previous students), if you don't do well there is no one to blame but yourself
I enjoyed the class thoroughly however, I dug myself a hole the first test and barely managed to get a B. The clicker points were a nuisance because if you didn't answer the question right you would get dinged on points... so much so I once received a 0 for attendance. He was very rude over email but he has over 1000 students so I understand.
I absolutely loved Dr. Laumakis! Psych 101 was my favorite class this semester. His lectures are super interesting and he presents course material in an understandable way. Also, each lecture is recorded and archived on blackboard so you can re-watch them if you want. If you pay attention and take good notes the exams aren't a big deal.
I loved this class! He is one of the most organized teachers I've had and you always know what to expect. He is super funny too! Study the material and it's not really hard to get an A. Also, don't buy the textbook, just the online code.
Really good teacher and willing to put in the time if you are. Pay more attention to his lectures than the textbook and always participate.
Dr. Laumakis was an awesome PSYCH 101 teacher. I had AP Psych in highschool, and expected this class to be easy, but the only thing that helped me grasp the concepts better was SI. It is super useful, and taught by prior students (which means they remember test questions). They are like living past exams!
I probably could have got a B- in this class but I kept forgetting to do the learning curves! I really liked the way he lectures and never skipped class, the content was interesting.
Show up for clicker points or your grade will tank. Study for the tests ahead of time and go to the SI sessions.
Great teacher! The class is fairly easy if you study before the exams and attend all the lectures. Probably one of my favorite teachers because he makes the class interesting and easy to comprehend.
Great professor for psych! He makes lectures very clear, there are 2 a week (one face-to-face and the other online) and covers the material well in a relatable way. Make sure you go to class for clicker points and for the information. Most importantly, go to the SI sessions! They're very helpful and you will not regret it.
I love Dr. Laumakis. He is an amazing professor. Very animated during his online and face to face lectures. Do not take this class if you are lazy and do not study because the test are shaped around his lectures and reading. Also, there is research participation to do so make sure you have the credit done or you won't pass. I didnt really go to SI
I really enjoyed this class, the lectures are very interesting and were fun to listen to. Definitly expect to put the work in, this is NOT a blow-off class. It's definitly worth it, you'll learn so much if you just make the effort. I thought Laumakis was pretty funny. I would definitly take a class of his again.
Laumakis is awesome as a large lecture prof. He makes it feel like a small, personal class even though there is 500 students. If you do what is asked of you, you will definitely pass with a good grade. Clicker points and attendance points are super important. And don't forget the online activities!! They can raise your grade a ton.
Laumakis really does care for his students and he is great at breaking down the subject. He is very excited every lecture and that gets me more excited even though I was an 8am lecture. Definitely recommend because I used to not like psychology, but Laumakis taught me so much I actually enjoyed the class. Also clicker points are important!
As long as you attend the lectures and pay a little attention, and do the online homework you will be fine. He says to read the book but I never read it and got B's on the tests. Homework is super important, it can make or break your grade, same with attedence! Just show up and do the homework, you'll be fine.
In preparation for the test just rewatch/understand all of the lectures and you're sure to at least get a high B. Online Learning curves every week so do not forget. Attendance is mandatory (clicker points)
His lectures were informative with helpful explanation, participation matters, no extra credit, but his suplemental instruction group was helpful with lots of reviews and practices. I will take with him again for sure. Highly recommend.
He's funny which makes class better. His lectures are interesting and as long as you watch the lectures and review notes, even just for an hour the night before a test, you'll get at least a B. Do the learning curves. I never touched the book and still got an A in the class.
I loved this class! Dr. Laumakis is a great professor and he made the class a lot easier. He makes sure to go over everything in depth and brings everything down to a level that everyone can understand. DO NOT SKIP CLASS!! Clicker and participation points are key. Dont buy the physical text book
Really knowledgable about psychology. He's a good balance of strict yet funny sometimes. Tests are a little tough so you have to read the textbook and do the learnsmarts online. Attendance points are the easiest points you'll get. You really need to try in this class if you want that A. Go to supplemental instruction if you need more help.
Mark is a pretty good teacher. His lectures are long and often boring. The class is once a week with an online lecture to accompany the in-person one. He speaks clearly and has an unhealthy obsession with Katy Perry. Clicker points are necessary. There are 4 tests (non-cumulative). Have to purchase online code. Overall, I would recommend.
Dr. Laumakis is an amazing professor! His lectures are fun & time goes by so quickly in class. Reading the book & reviewing the learning objectives will be helpful for the tests! Also offers SI sections every week which helps some students for the test. You need a clicker for the class and clicker points matter a lot! Definitely would take again!
He's a great prof. If you go to lectures and watch his online lectures you'll do fine cuz almost everything on the test is pretty much just his lectures. I took the 8am class and I didn't regret taking it. Clicker points is a huge part of your grade. Show up to class and you'll easily get an A.
Professor Laumakis is a great professor! His lectures are very interesting and his tests are not hard at all as long as you take notes and study. He talks to students and cares about them keeping their grades up. There are online quizzes but they are not hard either, because you keep doing it until you pass.
I took him for Psych 101. He was the only 8am I had that semester but he was so charismatic and funny that it wasn't too much of a chore to go. He makes his lectures entertaining but also gives you all the info you need. Clicker points help your grade a lot and his hybrid class rocks. Tests require a lot of memorization, but are pretty clear.
Fully online class, so I guess it is normal to have a lot of homework because there were no lectures other than the review sessions he holds before every exam. 3 exams total, not cumulative. You have to read the textbook carefully and focus on everything in it because the homework help you with the exams. Overall, easy if you study constantly.
Dr. Laumakis is such an awesome teacher! This class consists of lectures, online homework, and clickers (a big part of your grade). His tests are specific and would take a bit of studying to do, but if you go to in person lectures, watch his online lectures, and take good notes you'll be perfectly fine!
Such a sick guy. Loved psych
Dr. Laumakis is awesome. He genuinely cares about his students and his lectures are full of information but he is a very good teacher. You definitely have to watch the videos if you want to do well on the tests but overall he's great. His jokes are pretty corny but I love it and it definitely makes the class better. Also go to SI sessions!!
Dr. Laumakis is the best professor on earth! Classes were fun and i actually learned so much from his lectures! Easy points, must study hard for exams, 2 research requirement papers. I would definitely take this professor again!
Laumakis is one of my favorite professors! He explains all the concepts in depth, easy to understand, and can be funny at some points. Everything's well organized and would highly recommend!
Laumakis is a great professor who makes the tests clear and easy to understand. His lectures can be a little boring though. There are 4 tests, clicker points, online quizzes, and a research requirement. Overall, not a difficult class to get a good grade if you study and show up.
This class was my favorite that I've taken so far! It consists of four tests, clicker points, and easy quizzes online. The tests definitely involve LOTS of studying, and the book is not necessary but he does pull out some questions from it on every test. Not an easy A, but would definitely recommend taking this class.
Dr. Laumakis is a great professor. You will end up with a smile on your face during every lecture.
Professor Laumakis truly cares about students learning, and it shows. It's not an easy A, but you will learn a lot. I'm a Psych major and couldn't be happier. There are 4 exams, but they are not cumulative and very fair. No trick questions. He wants you to succeed, and wants you to earn your success. GO TO SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION!
Great class! Laumakis is an amazing professor and his lectures are very entertaining and you will learn a lot while in his class! 4 exams, non cumulative, but required a bit of studying for. SI sessions WILL help you & stay on top of lectures if taking the hybrid class. ATTENDANCE is important, so make sure you go to class.
Lets you know what is on the tests. Make sure you show up to class and the online lectures, otherwise you will not pass. If you do show up to class, it is pretty easy
Dr. Laumakis is a great professor. His lectures are always interesting and when he teaches he gives examples so most of the material is pretty easy to comprehend. And he puts all his lectures and slides on BB. You do have to study for tests though! SI sessions are super helpful. Also, do your research participation early b/c you get extra credit.
He is a great professor who really teaches you. Be prepared to study. He doesn't ask easy test questions, but he is fair. Tests are multiple choice. He puts his lectures online but be there in class for participation points that WILL help your grade. Take advantage of doing the homework to help boost your grade a little.
Laumakis is an awesome professor. His lectures are entertaining & he's a funny guy. 4 exams, no final, and not a ton of hw. Show up to class to get clicker points, & make sure you watch the online lectures. Tests are a ton of vocab and application, but the online textbook is super helpful when studying.
He is very entertaining with his lectures. The thing about his tests are that he gives example scenarios questions and you have to figure out which subject it refers to. It helps to attend supplemental instructions because they help you study for the tests. Also, do the online quizzes. You can buy the ebook as long as it has the code.
Best professor you will ever have. You have to show up, and study every once in a while, but very attainable A-. He's clear, has great examples, and tells great dad jokes.
Great SI opportunities
Dr. Laumakis was great at making the course material understandable to all his students. His lectures weren't boring; he kept it entertaining by cracking jokes. Clicker points keep you engaged. There was online HW but his exams were on lecture material. He's very clear about what he expects, which I appreciated. The course was part online too.
He teaches very clearly and fluently, and is very easy to understand. Homework is easy, just get it done on time. Allows interaction with online sessions. Overall an amazing professor who knows how to teach and deal with a room of 500 people. 4 credits of research participation are also necessary, but it really isn't that much of a hassle.
I would not have taken this class at State, would have preferred local CC. He is not as amazing as people say and he makes tests quite tricky in terms of questioning. Definitely go to SI, without it I would not have passed. Don't waste your time, truthfully. Nice guy and clear lectures, just not what I expected.
Okay. This class is easy and interesting. The grading is clear and fair. However: I found Laumakis condescending and going to class was the worst part of my week. He also has a few terrible, unclear and eve incorrect test questions. BUT: he gives you every tool you need to get a good grade and pass.
He gives a lot to study. There is a lot of material and not a lot of time to cover it. Hard to know exactly what will be on the test. My first test was a real shock, studied for hours and got a C. SI is offered, but hard to go to since the meetings are an hour and a half. Really hard class for me.
This class is really interesting to me, even though I don't want a job close to doing anything psychology related. Laumakis is a great professor, he does give a lot of material but you'll get a good grade if you study well and go to the SI session right before the test. Got a 90 on my first test and a 95 on my second one easily.
Very straight forward on what is going to be covered on the test. None of the test are cumulative. He is very good at explaining the material and is super kind. GO TO SI, IT HELPS SO MUCH. If you go to SI you will pass the class with a A or B. Overall, great professor and gives you all the material you need to pass, it is up to you do it.
I don't care what anyone says, this is a hard class. Yes, he's straightforward and clear but the tests are impossible. Tests are hard as well as confusing, he words them so they are so similar and you get confused. Going to SI helps but I will not take the class again. Going to change my major now.
Mr. Laumakis is a great professor. The class is half online, and you don't have to attend the online sessions, but you definitely should watch the videos or you won't pass the tests. He is a super funny, caring professor and you can tell he genuinely loves his job. I would for sure take his class again.
Dr. Laumakis is an amazing professor! He is the most organized teacher i've ever had. The entire semester we stayed right on track with the syllabus. Attend the SI sessions they will definitely help! Overall the class was very interesting and I would take it again!
Professor Laumakis is super nice and very helpful. He is straightforward and tells you what to expect on exams. Definitely go to SI to prepare for tests. The exams are not super easy but they are fair. I would highly recommend this class to anyone especially with Laumakis!
super chill and his lectures are pretty entertaining. he's very fair & the tests were 95% from the lecture, 5% extra stuff from the book. always do the learning smarts ahead of time or you'll forget. just take the 45-60 min to power through and read the chapter assigned. this class is easy if you review regularly eg flashcards, rereading notes
You take four test throughout the semester. He is persistent on telling you to go to SI meetings, which is a place where you can go if you need help.
He is a really good professor who knows this course well. The tests are easy and straightforward but still require you to do all of the lectures, homework, and readings to get familiar. I got an A- in this course but it required some effort. His lectures and readings are very interesting. There are a lot of online homeworks.
Make sure you go to Supplemental Instruction! That boosted my test grades from Cs to As it really works. Make sure you do all the HW so you don't miss any points there. But again, go to Supplemental Instruction!
This class was one of my favorites this semester. His lectures are very interesting and he lets you know specifically what will be on the exams. However, to succeed in this class, attend SI's !! It is beyond helpful and will give you the grades you want--the tests can be tricky. It's very doable to get an A, you just have to put in the work!
A LOT of work though. Lectures are long and he covers a lot of things. I absolutely recommend reading the textbook. Make sure to pay attention to examples he gives during class cause you'll need the for the tests. Don't skip class participation points matter. Go to SI it helps a lot. There is a 4 credit research participation, do it early!
Laumakis is an outstanding prof, but the class itself is hard work. It is a hybrid class, but do not skip the online lectures, they're as important as the face-to-face ones. There's 4 tests, non-cumulative, and no final. Do the online homework! I was able to get by without going to SI, but I regret not going. Make sure you study hard!
His lectures are interesting and engaging. He tells you specifically what he is grading on and his tests are pretty straightforward. It's a hybrid class so you just have to keep up with the online portion of the class and you should be good. A really good professor and I learned a lot
great lectures, never boring. didn't open the textbook once.
He is a super sweet-teddy bear like professor who really knows his stuff. His class however, is filled with a ton of material and it goes by quickly. The tests are 50 questions and pretty difficult if you don't go to SI sessions. The online HW is easy but time consuming and IS graded for completion only. Research is also easy just get it done early
This class wasn't bad at all. I failed the first exam but was able to get my grade back up. Definitely go to SI, it really helps and it can be fun.
This was my favorite course last semester but it's a lot of work. Go to SI twice a week and do the online homework and you'll understand the material. Do the research articles early for extra credit. He puts one question on each test from the book but honestly don't buy the book you will never use it.
Super funny includes alot of helpful examples in lecture. Attendence and clicker points are there to help your grade, you need the textbook but only buy the online access code, it comes with ebook access and you need it for the online assignments that are credit no credit.
Even though he teaches a huge lecture he is really good at explaining the material and incorporates humor into the lectures. Just pay attention in class and go to the SI sessions which he stresses a lot because they really do help. Attendance is only mandatory for clicker points. Best professor I've had at SDSU.
Laumakis really knows his stuff. He's also great at explaining and clarifying concepts. The clicker points are based on both attendance & whether or not you answer correctly. Clicker points are a large chunk of your grade, so go to class! Tests are somewhat tricky, but if you review the lecture slides&study the clicker questions you should do well.
Best Professor I've had so far
Great lectures. He covers all the info you need to know during class. I bought the textbook but never used it and passed the class. He gives clicker questions to get your attendance and gives you points.
Go to SI to get a good grade in this class. I made the mistake of not trying for the first half of the semester (2 tests!) and got 60's and realized I wasn't gonna pass the class. The second half of the semester I went to SI often and got and 80 and 90 on the last two tests, but I still ended with a C plus. I learned about study habits.
Great professor. The class is a little rough if you have no background, just go to SI and take advantage of his only extra credit opportunity. Great class though, hybrid is a little weird but manageable. WATCH THE LECTURES. His test are scenario based not definitions so get ready to know your stuff.
Laumakis is honestly the sweetest Professor I've ever met. You should definitely go to SI because it will really improve your grade. There are clicker points so if you are going to miss a class, make sure you send it to someone else. Otherwise the lectures are all online so if you didn't want to go you don't really have to but I do recommend going.
His lectures were very clear and easy to understand. The class is actually very interesting and not that difficult if you just study the material from his lectures and the textbook. I would definitely take this professor again.
Very good professor. You actually retain the information he teaches and his lectures are synonymous with the tests. Go to class and you'll have no problem.
I loved this class. do the research participation early. if you don't want to go to lecture, give your clicker to a friend cuz clicker points are a b and you actually need them. I only studied like an hour for each test by reading the learning outcomes in the syllabus and doing learning curves. A lot of the test questions are common sense/knowledge
made everything super clear which was nice, clicker questions were used for participation but going to lectures were not bad at all and the clicker questions were often used on tests. tests were clear and not at all difficult if you paid attention to lecture, 10/10 would recommend.
Took this class online for summer and super easy, as long as you read and do all the learning curve quizzes you will be good!
This class helped me decide to be a psychology major! The professor is so knowledgeable and makes such a huge class enjoyable. Clicker points are important so don't miss class. The tests arent too bad if you go to the SI study sessions and study on your own. I wish i went to SI sooner, it was so helpful.
such a great guy and makes concepts super interesting and relatable. going to SI helps a bunch too!
The class is pretty straightforward but Laumakis makes it interesting and easy to understand the material. He also uses clicker questioons to mark attendance.
Laumakis was definitely one of my favorite professors! The class was so easy if you actually attend the online sessions and the in person sessions. Consider going to SI , it seriously helps. I bought the text book and didn't even use it. You can use the text book in your launch pad. Tip: there is A LOT of info , take good/color code notes!
He was very passionate about what he taught and that reflected in the class. Great professor. Has homework but it's not that difficult.
I would definitely take this professor again. Lectures and clear and easy to understand. Uses powerpoints and goes over some exam questions. Iclickers are used so make sure you have one, 5 points every class for answering clicker questions. The tests are exactly what he teaches, just make sure you pay attention and try not to miss class.
I love this man. I learned so much in this class. Hes one of the few professors that can lecture for a long time without getting boring. He cares about students and provides innovative teaching methods to help students grasp and remember the material.
I would definitely take this class again! Dr. Laumakis is a really entertaining teacher, makes lots of wholesome dad jokes, and his lectures are clear. I will say that the first test caught me off guard because it heavily dealt with biology (parts of the brain & etc), but after that, topics were easy to pick up. This was my favorite by far!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I GOT 100% ON TWO OF HIS MIDTERMS. HIS FINAL ISN'T CUMULATIVE WHICH IS NICE. JUST COME TO CLASS FOR iCLICKER POINTS, DO UR HW ONLINE, AND TAKE NOTES ON HIS LECTURE. THERE IS EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY (7 POINTS) IF YOU FINISH THE 2 RESEARCH CREDITS BEFORE A SPECIFIC DEADLINE. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET THIS CLASS.
Dr. Laumakis is an AMAZING professor and made this class of 500 people so fun to be in. He has really funny dad humor and is very personable and understanding. He formats the class and his grading to be the best it can be for you and does everything he can to make sure you succeed! The only thing is that attendance is mandatory for clicker points.
Love this guy! He really knows what he's talking about and is easy to follow along with. My favorite thing about this class is that you know exactly what you will be tested on. If you take notes in lectures and review them before tests, you will get a solid A.
He is SUCH a good professor. He does do clicker points, and the lectures are easy to take notes on. I didn't read the book, just studied lectures notes. The LearnSmarts are simple and easy points. No study guides for the tests, but go to SI or just study the lecture notes. No final & tests aren't cumulative!!
Taking his class completely erased any doubts I had about being a Psychology major. You have to work for your grade; however, his lectures were always so enjoyable to listen to that I found it very easy to remember the information on tests. Show up to class!!! He chooses 8 classes of clicker points randomly to count towards your grade.
Laumakis is a very clear professor. If you are good at taking tests this class will be pretty easy; I just read over my notes to study. This is because Laumakis is also a very engaging and clear lecturer. There were 2-3 questions on exams that were not in lectures and in the book instead, but the rest of the questions were clearly explained.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR PSYCH PROFESSOR AT STATE. His class is a hybrid, you must go to all lectures in order to pass. His lectures are amazing and he gives great examples for each topic. 10/10 would recommend!! Also got to Supplemental Instruction, its free tutoring and one of the reasons why the test were so easy for me.
Amazing lectures. Very clear. All I can say is GO TO SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION!! Very helpful for tests!! Know the simple study guide questions and you will pass the tests. Great professor :)
He is simply good
best professor ive ever had, super solid understandable lectures. a lot of online homework assignments but theyre easy just stay on top of them. 4 tests total and if you just study your lecture notes you will fine !
Dr. Laumakis is hilarious, daily quotes that make my day honestly. He is a very good teacher, go to SI!!! BUT... more biology than I bargained for. Overall highly recommend this course but not just an easy A. I took it as a hybrid course
This is the best class i have taken so far at SDSU. Laumakis is the best professor and gives the best and most intriguing lectures. He really cares about the student's understanding of the material because he takes time during class to clear up questions. ppts are online and they are so great to use to keep up with the lectures.
OMG I LOVE DR. LAUMAKIS, HE IS MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AT STATE SO FAR, HIS CLASS IS SUPER INTERESTING AND FUN TO WATCH, THERE ARE CLICKER POINTS, BUT IF YOU MISS CLASS HE RECORDS IT AND POSTS IT AT BB, IT IS AN EASY A IF YOU KEEP UP, STUDY AND GO TO SI.
There are no curves and no tests are dropped. Attendance is SUPER important, you have to show up to every class to get full attendance points. There is HW, my advice is set an alarm for when it is due because it plays a major % in grade. There is 4 tests & no final. Recommend making flashcards with definition and examples. quizlet: rebeccarc14
The class material is rather simple, but going to SI will be a big help to your grade! Make sure you don't just copy down what's on the slides, but also what he writes and talks about! Super interesting class and not that difficult if you keep up to date with your work, and do all the extra credit!
4 tests, no final. Tests are NOT cumulative. Lectures are mandatory, but helpful. Clicker questions ARE test questions. Don't forget about research participation and LearningCurve homework! Easy A that doesn't require an absurd amount of work. Laumakis is an incredible professor. His lectures are fun and humorous.
GO TO LECTURES. WATCH ALL ONLINE LECTURES. Go to SI if you don't understand something. Do the homework, study and do all the clicker questions (in class). Tests are easy if you study, go to lecture and do the homework. Test questions are based on comprehension, not memorization. Only 3 test and 1 final. final is not cumulative.
Very knowledgeable and approachable professor. Only 4 non-cumulative tests, online hw which is easy, and clicker questions for your grade. Tests are pretty simple if you understand the material, nothing to trick you. He says you must read the textbook, but don't bother since he only asks like 2 questions max on the test from the book material. :)
Dr. Laumakis is an amazing professor. I took his class as a hybrid and that worried me, but he really knows his stuff. Going to class is important but his lectures are also pretty interesting. Lots of Dad jokes. I loved this class and its made me consider a psych major. Take this class!!
I skipped 3 times it held me back from an A. He uses clickers&randomly gives more points. 2 opportunities for extra credit. The 4 tests are always based on what he lectures on&a little on the textbook. So you have to get the textbook. He is such an easy teacher&but you have to put in effort&do all the work. The course ends early &isn't cumulative.
I loved taking this class with Dr. Laumakis! The tests are very fair and are on exactly what you cover in class. As long as you show up to class, listen to online lectures, and do the learning curve quizzes you will be fine.
He is a great teacher who makes his lectures enjoyable and fun. There is not that much homework for this class, and the exams aren't too difficult either as long as you study a bit. Do not skip class tho, because it will hurt you attendance grade a lot
Good communication, interesting lectures.
He is easy to reach, very friendly and will help students out if they are struggling.
Dr. Laumakis is SUCH an amazing teacher and overall great guy. He really cares about what he teaches so the class super interesting and easy to follow along. Watch the online lectures or else you'll be lost during the in-class lectures. Only 4 tests, but are EXACTLY what he covers in class and got to SI you need. Lots of easy points you can get
Professor Laumakis was really caring and cool. I thought this class was going to be harder than I thought but it was easy. GO TO SI TUTORING!! Best thing to pass the class! HW was really easy and exams were exactly like hw. Uses clicker in class for points. Make sure to do participation research otherwise you won't pass, let me do 3 instead if 4
Mr. Lumakis is by far my favorite teacher. He made understanding psychology interesting and fun. He is not boring at all and he has such a passion for teaching and it really shows.
He is amazing. He is one of the only professors to sincerely care about his students, especially during the corona hysteria. He does his best to make sure everyone is ok and fully understanding topics and takes time for questions. incredibly clear lectures!
Laumakis is an engaging lecturer. Lots of online assignments outside of class but tests are very easy. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, and you will do well.
Professor Laumakis is my favorite professor at state. He is very into his work and it shows. your grade is based on the tests and if you take good notes on his lectures than you'll be ready to take it. The class is also very interesting and he makes it so fun and easy to learn!! attendance isn't mandatory but I always wanted to go to class
Dr. Laumakis is such a good teacher. Take him. The lectures were easy to follow and very informative so go. There are weekly homework that need the textbook and 4 tests the whole year. The tests are kinda hard but not really just take really good notes and study well. GO TO SI tutoring! This helped me so much. Not required but they help a lot.
Highly reccommend, tests are. kind of are but he makes it SO easy to understand, given I got a D the first exam, but if you go to lecture, he's SUPER good. Not a hard class if you do the work. :-)
The nicest and funniest prof I have had. Extremely easy class, but when it was in-person you needed to go to get clicker points. Online homeworks are easy and equivalent to one test grade, so do it.
Awesome teacher and person. Glad I took his class.
One of the best professors ever! Definitely recommend his class. All you do is online work and quizzes. There are no exams or tests. Willing to help you if you need it. Easy class and made me major in psychology.
Had him Fall Semester 2020 during COVID19. Class is based around the online textbook on Launchpad (can purchase through website or use an access code). Work consists of quizzes built in to the website, very simple. He has voluntary lectures twice a week to better understand the material. Very accommodating during the pandemic, lectures not boring.
10/5, such an amazing teacher. I love the way he taught the class. Although we were online this semester, he really made zoom lectures really fun still. Take him, you won't regret it!
Great professor. Class is extremely straight forward and laid out since day 1. No tests or finals. Lots of reading and notes, but that's kind of every psych class. I haven't attended a single lecture and have an A. Just do the readings, take notes, and take the quizzes on time.
Dr. Laumakis is amazing! He's really nice and funny. His lectures are super informative and easy to understand and he makes them really interesting to listen to. There is barely any homework, and no exams with the online course!
Easiest A, no mid-term or final or tests at all really. Just homework with every chapter but it is so easy I urge everyone to take this class he's such a nice guy
Literally the easiest class I've taken all semester. Normally, he has one chapter due every week but bc we're online, he just has four chapters due at the end of each month so you can do the work on your own time. Attendance isn't mandatory. There's no midterm or final. You just have a few open book practices quizzes and one real quiz per chapter.
Laumakis probably taught the easiest class I will ever take in college. No projects, no papers, no midterm, no final. All we had to do was a few mini quizzes per week (which you literally get a guaranteed 100% as long as you finish the quiz) and one short test. He would make all of the month's work due at the end of the month, rly convenient
great class! graded on learning curve quizzes (LC) and chapter tests. LC's are easy and you keep answering questions until you get the required points. Chapter tests are open book/notes and about 12 questions on average. professor laumakis really cares about his students and wants to see us succeed. highly recommend!!
This class was great. grading criteria is SO clear. you just go to the online textbook each week and complete the chapter assigned. The bulk of your grade is learningcurve(LC) quizzes & chapter tests. LC you keep answering questions until you get the required points (no penalty for wrong answers) and chapter tests are ab 12 questions and open book!
Attendance wasnt mandatory this sem so Im sad to say I didnt go to lectures but I hear they were really interesting! Assignments are split into four chunks in the sem and are easy to get through (online quizzes that are open book), and no midterm/final! Was my easiest class this sem. Whether u actually learn anything depends on ur participation.
If you are required to take Psych 101, you need to have Dr. Laumakis. He was without a doubt my favorite professor and class this semester. He genuinely cares about teaching his students. The class online was entirely based off quizzes and hw assignments, which were both open book. Attendance to the lectures was not required, but they were fun!
This was by far one of my favorite AND easiest class this semester. His lectures are very in-depth and if you have a question, he will gladly elaborate. This class is only made up of practice quizzes (which let you refer to the textbook without penalty) and chapter quizzes which are never longer than 20 questions. HOWEVER, he is a Trump supporter.
You have to purchase something online that's $99. The homework and quizzes for the whole semester is on there and it's all easy. Workload is not bad at all and there's plenty of time to get it done. There's no final, but a quiz for each chapter. The textbook on there is very helpful. No final. Overall easy A and very good professor.
I had him my first semester at SDSU online and he was amazing. He really knows what he is talking about and is the perfect professor for psychology. We had an online textbook with questions and small quizzes spread out throughout the semester. Due to COVID-19 and the situation we were in, we didn't have any finals.
He makes lectures fun, cares about his students, and works hard to make sure the content is understood. As long as you keep up with deadlines and don't wait to start on your work last minute, it is easy to pass with a good grade. 1000% recommend him, he was amazing (and we were even online.)
I had Dr. Laumakis for my second semester online at SDSU and he was amazing. I signed up for the 8am slot and always woke up to attend class even though it was optional just because I liked it so much. He uses examples, pictures, jokes, and pneumonics to make class engaging and to help us learn and remember the content. And no finals! (with online)
Such a great professor. Obviously likes teaching and is just a solid dude. Not muh more else to say other than you should take his classes becuase you will learn a lot!
This class was a breeze. Professor Laumakis is incredibly understanding and caring. I recommend him 100%
A very good teacher during online learning and I assume an even better one in person. He made lectures very enjoyable and the homework very straightforward. Homework style was answering questions to reach a threshold of points and textbook can be used to answer them. Learning quizzes were also open note and textbook.
Mark is a pretty cool teacher. Only had to meet up with him once for lecture. He mainly assigned chapter readings that included quizzes, activities, LOTS of reading (give yourself lots of time to read), and then a chapter test. Make sure you actually understand the material. Some of the test questions can be a bit tricky. Great class to be in!
I enjoyed this class! Took during Covid and had no tests/midterm/final. Only "learning curves" and "practice tests." He was very caring and extremely organized. I always knew what was expected. Kind of a lot of reading (which you technically don't have to read if online) but will prob be harder in person. Very nice & passionate. Highly recommend!!
Gives amazing lectures that are clear and easy to follow. Each chapter starts learning objectives which makes studying for exams so much easier & is basically a study guide. Amazing professor.
His lectures are good and they are filmed, so if you miss class it isn't the end of the world. Tests are pretty hard, but mainly because it is a lot of content in such a little time frame.
do good on tests or you won't pass. the majority of points for your grade is on textbook quizzes, so get all of those points while you can- they're easy points
Definitely would recommend it. Big courseload, but manageable if you plan it out. Laumakis rocks.
Really nice. He tries so hard! He really wants everyone to enjoy the class.
as long as you attend lectures and understand all the slides you'll do fine. love this man
solid professor even though it was a huge lecture. the topics are pretty broad when it comes to studying for the tests and i felt like i had to memorize the entire text book to get a 100% on the tests. go to his lectures because he sometimes says specific questions that will be on the test. also make sure to meet with your student teachers.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Funny guy, passionate and knows his stuff. Very engaging and interesting lectures. Easy work and fairly easy tests as long as you take good notes and study those.
I had an awesome time this semester, there were a lot of learning curve assignments but they definitely helped when studying for an upcoming exam.
By far the best professor I've had at state so far. I loved his class, he really explains concepts well and connects them to real life making it easy to understand. Literally declared a psych minor bc of this class. 10/10 recommend
I took PSY101 as a hybrid class, and Laumakis knows what he's doing. His goal is to make sure every student passes. Do the reading, watch the lectures, do the hw, and you will pass with flying colors. Hw is online questions and don't take long. Tests are straightforward if you know the concepts. Overall, very sweet guy who wants to see you succeed.
Laumakis is very passionate about teaching and explains concepts well. You do have to study though as some exam questions can be nit-picky, but overall he's an amazing professor.
Interesting lectures. 4 tests throughout the semester, they're not that hard you just need to study, and memorizing key terms will help! homework is tedious but pretty easy, it's like little quizzes at the end of each chapter but they're open book. lectures are recorded so attendance isn't necessarily mandatory.
This is the best prof I've ever had. Lectures are great, tests are straight forward and fair. Quick responses to emails, and an all around good guy. This course was required for me but I learned so much and it was very interesting. Take any/ all of his classes if you can!
Laumakis is an amazing teacher! This is the perfect class to understand the foundations of psychology and will help you in higher level psych classes. He knows what he is talking about, how to teach and gives examples so you can picture what he means. 100% would take it again.
Did you know that Professor Laumakis posts disparaging remarks about his students on his personal Facebook page? He quotes emails from them, constantly mocking them as lazy, stupid, entitled, you name it. Think twice about taking his class, you may be next on his hit parade.
Really good teacher. Lectures are very enjoyable. Make sure to read textbook.
This class is very lecture heavy and attendance is super important but the lectures are super interesting and engaging! The tests can be difficult but nothing studying doesn't prep you for. He's super knowledgable and is great and answering questions in and outside of class! But he can be a little blunt :)
cool guy it seemed and i got a c whilst putting in no effort and skipping most of class if you attend the lectures and put some amount of effort it shouldnt be too hard to get a A when i did go, lectures were taught well while i listened, but i often found myself falling asleep along with the others near me
Good professor.
Large lecture. Very passionate and experienced. Teaches topics very clearly and provides slides on Canvas. Highly organized class and clear grading. Opportunity for extra credit. 4 tests total, no cumulative final. Each test 40 q's multiple choice. Can ask questions in class. Very interesting lectures.
He's such an understanding professor, I loved his class. It's really straightforward and his lectures are really thorough and interesting. He doesn't take attendance every day but he picks a random days before each test and grades attendance based on that. Overall a suuuuper nice and funny professor, and an amazing teacher:)
Laumakis was one of my favorite professors. Easy class if you study lecture notes and go to class. If you don't go to class, it'll be pretty hard to pass.
Dont be afraid to take Laumakis for psych 101! Super chill and cracks a few jokes here and there. Do your homework and show up to class because he takes attendance through iClicker. Otherwise psych 101 is passable with him.
Professor Laumakis is awesome! If you take psych 101, he makes it very easy and straightforwards. Attendance is mandatory since he does take a grade off of it, but his lectures are awesome and super helpful. There is textbook readings and homework, pretty easy only thing is the textbook goes into more detail than needed for the class.
professor laumakis is the BEST! the last day of class was very bittersweet. there are iclicker questions every lecture, but they weren't that bad. he definitely prepares you well for his exams, and SI sessions are offered for every exam if you need extra help. he cares about his students and wants you to do well in his class :)
Professor Laumakis was very fun! He made lectures very interesting and the exams were non-cumulative, and were able to pass by reviewing notes, reading the textbook and reviewing the homework! Easy and interesting class.
This class was my favorite of the semester, Laumakis made it enjoyable. iClicker questions every lecture to prove you're there (and you get points for answering correctly) and he says important info that's not on his slides. Tests and syllabus is straightforward. There are assignments but they're easy, just so many but you can do them ahead.
Such a fun class and he really made the class enjoyable. Not an official textbook but you had to purchase the homework and he used iclicker to take attendance.
Great professor, very helpful lectures and he's funny. I found psych very interesting and I recommend this class. It's not an easy class or a free A, there are attendance questions every lecture and online assignments and a quiz due every week. The tests are a big part of your grade and they're not easy, I recommend reading the textbook to prepare
Amazing teacher who makes lectures interesting! Attendance mandatory due to iClicker questions and info given that's not on the slides, but I rarely felt uninterested in this class. Heavily considering pursuing a psychology major due to this class. As long as you come to class, the tests aren't too bad. Textbook goes into more detail than needed.
Take this class! Laumakis is a great teacher and super entertaining. I enjoyed this class so much I changed my major to psychology. Tests are somewhat difficult, but if you go to class they are not too bad. Would definitely recommend
Dr. Laumakis is an AMAZING Professor and I highly, highly recommend! I took PSY 101 with him loved it so much that I took PSY 350! He is clearly passionate about what he does and explains everything in a way that is super easy to follow and understand! He also jokes around a lot which makes lectures fun & the tests are straightforward if you study!
Uses iClicker so attendance is for participation points. Test are mainly based on topics covered in lecture. Achieve assignments are easy points and worth a chunk of the grade. Lectures are enjoyable and he usually does a review at the start of each one. Research study participation required with the opportunity for extra credit. Great Professor!!
He's very passionate about psychology, this class was interesting and engaging even as a large lecture. Uses iclicker and it is a big part of your grade so attendance is super important. Lots of easy points with textbook questions and open note mini quizzes. Tests are challenging, especially if you don't study or read the textbook.
Lecture are pretty entertaining and the tests are very easy, just study lecture notes
Great professor! Presents content in a very interesting way and the class overall is quite easy. Just show up to class and you should do well!
I loved Dr. Laumakis' class! Despite ENS being closed down, his lectures were engaging, and he clearly cares about the learning process. He tells you that you're in good hands at the start of the semester, and I can attest that you are. All you need to do is apply yourself since it can be a lot of information at once.
Laumakis made psych pretty interesting. Get ready to read though because the test questions and stuff he talks about in the lecture go hand-in-hand. Lecture slides are easily accessible and he brings up more points outside of the readings. He cares for his students and he wants you to succeed. Do the journals ASAP too!!
He's honestly my favorite professor on campus. Just go to lectures and really listen because that will set you up for success on tests. He's an awesome guy!!! Really cares about his students too.
Laumakis was a great professor and genuinely enjoys teaching. His lectures are very informative, so always attend class! Attendance was also mandatory too, but they're easy points. Everything on the exams is covered in his lectures and readings.
Laumakis has very interesting lectures, which are all on canvas, with the use of iclickers. There are weekly learning curves, quizzes, and 4 tests total. Attendance is taken through the iclickers so go to class. He is funny and tells many jokes, so laugh. Overall he was a great professor and would definitely recommend!
Overall, a great professor. I would recommend going to lectures because they are interesting and everything he talks about n class will be on the test. All 4 tests are on paper and are multiple choice, but if you go to class and understand the material it is not bad at all.
I loved Professor Laumakis's class, he is an amazing lecturer and has great dad jokes, plus he makes class fun and easy to follow. Although the classes are huge, you can tell he really cares about all of his students and is willing to work with you. He is one of my first professors here at SDSU, but I will definitely be taking more of his classes.
Laumakis is an extremely knowledgeable professor and cares for his students. I was always able to reach him via email and visit his office hours. The exams weren't too bad if you study and take good notes. Iclickers in class were graded for accuracy.
Loved his psy101 class. Lectures were long but helped so much on the test. Take notes and study the hw and you will do just fine on the tests. Would def recommend his class.
He made learning about psychology so interesting. Take notes and go to his office hours. Definitely recommend taking his class. Tests were straightforward and easy to comprehend if you study
I love this man. Take him.
I love this man. Take him. His tests are straight forward and he prepares you really well. He is so funny and engaging. Homework takes 10 minutes and helps u study while u do it.
Super great at explaining things. As long as you go to lectures and pay attention this class is not hard. If you don't go to class you might struggle.
I love this professor, definitely take him!! He makes his lectures super interesting and funny by making jokes here and there. For homework, you do have to read a lot but it genuinely helps you understand the material and makes it easier to be prepared for tests. Tests aren't that hard, if you study you'll get an A.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I HATE IT. YOU HAVE TO GO AND ITS AT 8 AM. I ACTUALLY HAVE NEVER STRUGGLED SO MUCH IN A CLASS. THE TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE AND YOUR BRAIN DOESNT FUNCTION AT 8 AM.
I love this man. Attendance is mandatory. Take his class for PSY101 if you can and go to his office hours.
Best professor ever! He enjoys what he does and he is very passionate about the subject, he cares about his students and even mentions when something is not going to be on a test, you have to go to class and understand many concepts but as long as you do that you'll be fine, he is great!
Amazing professor. He's always been helpful outside the class and always had open communication! Assignments were amazing. Overall, one of the most inspirational professors out there!
He was a very good professor and you can tell that he has a lot of experience running this class. He knows exactly how to run the class and as long as you stay on track, complete all the work, and study a bit for the tests you'll do just fine. He was very nice and well-organized. Loved how there was no final, just 4 easy tests throughout the year.
Dr. Laumakis was a great professor and lecturer. He is super responsive with emails as well. His lectures were engaging and clear, as I know the amount of information could be overwhelming. If you go to class and study you will pass the class with an A or B!
He is a great professor! He is super engaging and cares about his students. Show up to class, do the work, and study for tests and you'll pass with a good grade. He even rounded me up when I was 2 points away from an A- without even asking. Great professor and person. Take this class!
He explains topics very well and makes the class interesting. It's the only class that feels shorter than the 1 hour and 15 minutes.
This was such an easy and chill class. Laumakis is very funny, approachable, and takes the time to let us know stuff about him. The tests were extremely easy when you study well beforehand and the material was interesting and easy to digest since Laumakis took his time throughout each class going through the slideshows.
This professor is one of the best professors I have ever had at SDSU. I took PSY 301 with him this semester and he made the class enjoyable. He is knowledgeable about the subject and his lectures are clear to understand. His humor resonates really well with students and he's just hilarious as well. I totally wish I could take his class again!
Dr. Laumakis is a great professor, but you do need to attend lectures for iclicker points and if you want to do well on test I would suggest reading the book. He lectures for the whole hour and fifteen minutes, but also makes a lot of jokes in that time.
TAKE HIM! Professor Laumakis' class is organized and informative. There are 4 tests (each worth 1/8 of grade- 4/8 total). 3/8 of grade is simple, open-note online homework and quizzes (use Quizlet!). The other 1/8 of grade is attendance (iClicker participation points). Review all notes and study before tests. Funny, caring professor with many jokes
Laumakis is one of the my favorite teachers ever. It goes without saying that he is very accommodating and engaging during lectures. He is open to feedback and responds quickly. You can tell he really cares about his students learning the information rather than just passing another class.
Dr. Laumakis is a great professor! You can tell he is genuinely passionate about teaching. As long as you show up to class and do the online assignments (which are not graded on accuracy) you can definitely pass. I think the most useful resource for the tests would be the slideshows which he goes over in class and you can also find them on canvas.
Well spoken, knowledgeable professor who is passionate about his work. Grading policies are clear in syllabus (not flexible with grades) Canvas assignments are due at 11:00 instead of 11:59 which is unusual. Other than that it was a serviceable enough course. If you take the 8AM section remember that unlike most professors attendance is mandatory.
This was my favorite class, but my hardest class. The lectures were very interesting and I learned a lot. Tests are difficult but they hold a lot of complex information so make sure to study in advance.
He's a funny and likable guy and is very passionate about psych. The main annoying thing is the iclickers because if you miss one class and don't do it, it may hurt your grade. But your grade mainly consists of 4 tests throughout the semester, and if you go to class and take notes you will definitely pass.
An amazing professor who cares about students and teaching the subject.
Phenomenal lecturer. I understood every single topic he discussed. He even interacts with the class pretty well, which is impressive because there was like 400 of us in the room. The homework was a little annoying, but fair. I don't have much interest in psych, but I looked forward to these lectures because he made psych interesting.
Dr. Laumakis is a very good professor and his teaching materials are excellent. He makes jokes about students and the lectures. For attendance wise, he doesn't do attendance but he use iclicker points to track students who shows up or not in the class. I highly recommend come to his class to get iclicker points and pay attention to it.
Professor Laumakis is really charismatic and makes his lectures fun and engaging. I never opened the textbook and still passed with an A by attending every lecture (his slides are vague if you don't go and take notes) and reviewing the slides + homework. Hard to fail if you put in the bare minimum.
Loved his lectures, go to class/read the chapters and you can't fail. I remember seeing reviews saying that the teacher was rude but he is very nice the only thing is that he is very stern about his policies, no late work, and such because of the size of classes it would complicate things to give out extensions. Tests are easy if you do your hw.
Professor Laumakis is an engaging lecturer. His class is straightforward - show up, take notes, and use resources like unstuckstudy ai for test prep. Easy A if you put in the effort.
Genuinely the most wholesome professor ever. So easy to like him and relate to him, he makes it so easy to understand almost everything because he uses so many memorable examples. He is also truly so funny. Stay engaged in class because truly you will learn so much and won't have to cram later for the tests! Would 100% recommend this professor.
He is amazing!!! As long as you do the assignments and study you will get an A and anyone will benefit from taking this class not just psych majors!!!
He was truly an amazing professor who made waking up for my 8 am less dreadful. The class itself is very content heavy, but if you study for his tests, they are definitely manageable. All of his other assignments are based solely on participation, and he has quizzes online that are open book.
Prof. Laumakis made Intro Psych genuinely interesting + I felt engaged was easily able to follow along during lectures. Four tests, no final. Do the HW assignments (online learningcurves) and practice quizzes and you should be chill for the test. Requires effort but test grades are forgiving and I highly recommend this class + teacher is awesome!
Awesome and funny professor! His class is the only one I look forward to attending this semester. His lectures are always engaging and the way the explains the material is very straightforward. Lecture slides are on Canvas but during his in-person lectures he writes extra information on the slides that will be useful for the tests.
This professor does a great job of breaking this class into digestible pieces. Make sure you show up to class and stay for the full time.
Love him! Really entertaining and good at giving examples that you will remember. Lots of homework, but it is easy and will really help your grade. No midterm or final. For the tests, he gives the exact breakdown of how many questions per chapter. To study for the tests, do the learning curve questions, they are very similar and will really help.
He is very engaging with his class, he makes class interesting. Wants to help students, easy assignments and tests. tests are worth a lot. attendance mandatory
Great, just study in advance and pay attention, lab is also really good and not stressful.
He has been the best professor I've had so far. His lectures are very important and address a majority of things that will be on the exams. Mark truly does care for his students success and it shows, he gives us reminders and heads-up before anything. The class is based on 4 exams and learning curve assignments (which is not a hassle to complete).
Laumakis is definitely one of the funniest professors out there. His lectures are engaging and always have a nice element of humor, making them both entertaining and informational. While attendance is not TECHNICALLY required, iClicker is utilized consistently, meaning you may lose points. Overall, he is a great professor teaching a great class!
Great teacher! My favorite class of this semester!!!
I enjoyed his class! He makes everything easy to understand and his tests aren't super difficult. All of the test material are covered in lectures. Attendance isn't exactly mandatory, but he does iClicker points that go towards your grade.
I enjoyed having Dr. Laumakis as a professor. His lectures were interesting and easy to follow. He's passionate about psychology and it shows. Attendance and participation is necessary, since he does iClicker questions every class and it will count towards your grade. However, the tests are straightforward and what we learned in class.
Great lectures and a great way to take attendance with Iclicker questions that count towards the overall grade. The only downsides is the early morning schedule on the farthest side of the campus. The four tests that will greatly affect your grades, study for this class. Also, the 2 essays required by the school for psy 101 students.
Loved this class and professor. He is so entertaining and makes the content interesting. Homework is quick and super helpful for learning & studying. Tests were not bad as long as you read some of the textbook and study a bit. This was my favorite class.
Absolutely loved taking this class with Dr. Laumakis! Every lecture was so interesting, & he teaches in a way that makes a lot of material easily digestible. Grading criteria is super clear, & he provides useful resources. Def study for exams to do well! He is so funny & sweet—probably one of my favorite professors here at state. 1000% recommend!
Doctor Laumakis was an outstanding instructor. His lectures were engaging and enjoyable. The work load was not difficult, however, just know that putting off doing the learning curves will have a large impact on your grade.
Loved Dr. Laumakis! Study and you will definitely get a good grade in the exams. The InQuizitives are easy, so make sure to do them!
Professor Laumakis knows what he is talking about so attend the lectures. If you don't go to the lectures, the tests will be impossible! The readings are not necessary fi you go to the lectures
Dr. Laumakis is such a great professor!!! He explains things very clearly and is happy to answer questions. It will be difficult to pass the class if you never go to lectures, but honestly if you go to lectures, ask clarification questions, and do the Inquisitives, you will do just fine. 10/10 would take a class taught by him again!
Dr. Laumakis is just overall a great professor, if you took psych in high school you'll already know a lot of the content, but it's presented in an engaging way. Even at 8am his lectures were super fun and he had a good dynamic with his audience. Participation is recorded, but he picks random lectures to count towards your grade. Highly recommend!
Very good professor with extremely engaging lectures. Attend class, pay attention, take advantage of the free iclicker points, and do the learning curves and you'll do great. He wants everyone to succeed and does his best to work with you if any issues arise.
My friend died last spring break, and I was incredibly depressed. I couldn't keep up in classes, look at emails, or even get out of bed to get food. I missed one of the FOUR exams and emailed him as soon as I found out. He refused to let me remake a test essential to my grade. He made a traumatic event worse. My friend died and I failed his class.
Amazing and funny lecturer, even though it was an 8 am still looked forward to going. Read the textbook chapters / practice questions before the quizzes and you should be fine. Homework was easy and just took a little time + reading. Overall great course and a great guy, would recommend everyone take him for your GE: Social and Behavioral Sciences.
He's clearly passionate about what he does and it shows through his lectures! He wants everyone to pass, although he is strict about deadlines. Be sure to read every chapter before the tests and pay attention during lectures (he'll give you hints to specific questions on the test) and you'll do great!
Professor Laumakis is amazing in his lectures. He explains topics well and relates them back to real life examples! His tests are easy as long as you pay attention during lectures and do the learning curve assignments.
As long as you show up to the lectures, take good notes, and study you'll do just fine on the tests. This class has SI sessions which is so beyond helpful, honestly the only reason I got As and high Bs on the tests. He's so funny, definitely understands his audience
Such a nice guy and he knows how to keep his students entertained! I would totally recommend his class.
Dr. Lumakis is engaging and uses iClicker to track attendance and give points. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should attend to get important additions to notes. He makes sure to point out important concepts that will be on the tests, and there are SI groups. Overall, a great class, lots of memorization and tests are Scantrons in class.
wonderful teacher. the ways he explains things is great and it really sticks in your mind. the tests were easy if you attend the lectures and do the homework.
Laumakis is great for intro. He's super passionate about psych, and explains everything really well. He's also pretty funny. I took intro the spring that the Eagles won the Superbowl, and he literally hid a picture of Jalen Hurts in every slideshow for the rest of the year.
Homework and at home quizzes are worth more than in person tests so one bad test will not tank your grade. Very understanding professor. Uses iclicker for class attendance. If you pay attention in lecture, study the slides, and do the homework you'll do fine. class is very doable.
I did enjoyed his class and he is really passionate about teaching, homework is really easy as well, I only struggle with the tests but if you prepare properly you shouldn't have any problem. 100% would take his courses again.
makes 8 am lectures no so bad
To be clear this class isn't that bad. The material though isn't an Easy A, even though it is a GE. Average on most tests is a low B. Laumakis is a very good teacher and has good online skills. Take this class BUT don't underestimate the difficulty if you are planning on aiming for an A.
There's weekly homework which is easy. The test are straight forward, I went to SI sessions for extra help. Overall chill class and lectures were really interesting.
Take this class with any other professor.
4 tests, based on his lectures. Very short weekly homework assignments. He takes complex subjects and does a good job of explaining them and making them understandable. You can tell he loves what he does.
Great teacher and lectures were easy to understand and follow. As long as you do practice quizzes and learning curves you'll be fine. One bad test won't drop your grade that much. If you take notes during lectures and study, tests aren't bad at all. Not as hard of a class as some people make it to be, just study for tests. Would take class again!
4 tests, no cumulative final. study well for tests and and do assignments, usually only abt 4 a week, theyre easy. didn't read textbook at all and still got an a, just try to pay attention to lectures and what he writes on slides, sometimes will just give you an answer for the test. great teacher and you can tell he loves teaching psych.
Dr. Laumakis increased my understanding of psychology and introduced concepts in a way that made his students excited to attend lectures. He offers office hours that I used frequently to review missed questions from tests. 4 tests total, no final exam. He loves what he teaches and cares about his students. Go to class to get iClicker points!
Literally my favorite professor so far, I wish I could take his class again. if you just really study the week before the test, you will be fine. 100% reccomend taking his class he made me want to actually go to his lectures
You can tell he is good at what he does, 8 am really isn't bad. Pay attention when he talks and you will be fine. Do homework and study a couple days in advance for each of the 4 tests. Nothing cumulative. I find that as a person he is a little short tempered and a tad egotistical- refers to himself as "like God" various times.
His lectures are so interesting, I took the 8 am and I genuinely was excited to go to class every morning. He is a very sweet guy and cares so much. Tests are well set up (you know exactly what to expect) and if you study you do well. Would recommend again and again!!
very nice. attendance is not mandatory but he uses iclicker, if you go to class he goes over a lot of the material on tests
This class is actually super interesting. Laumakis is super funny and uses great examples when teaching. 4 major tests during the semester, but no final or midterm. Weekly online assignments and practice quizzes that are a super easy way to rack up points. You should def take this class
great professor! he's hilarious and cares a lot about his students. attendance is mandatory through iclicker, but the questions are so easy as long as you pay attention/take notes. work is pretty manageable and most of the test questions are in lecture, which he covers very well.
MY KING. easy, fun classes. tests arent that bad, but do the learning curve quizzes and practice quizzes and youll be all set.
Dr. Laumakis is by far the best professor that I've ever had. He teaches lectures with passion and explains things very well. You can tell that he knows what he's talking about and the way he simplifies more complex topics is really helpful. It's very easy to get in touch with him and his TA's as well. 4 tests and extra credit opps. Take him!!!
I totally am not good at psychology nor do i enjoy it but he genuinely made it such a interesting subject even if i didn't score the best. I love his grading you can do mediocre and still end with a B average. Overall one of my best professor as a first year student!
The tests and class assignments balance out so If your a bad test taker like me you won't fail the class. He gives lots of opportunities to gain points and get a better grade. The tests are hard they aren't vocab they are real world examples. Very funny teachers.
Mark is an amazing lecturer, even though I took his 105 minute section twice a week it was very doable. In terms of engagement and wanting to learn he is one of the best here, giving people a reason to pay attention. If you are remotely interested in psychology, give his class a try!
laumakis is literally so hilarious and highly recommend this class! i took ap psych and didn't have to study much but def go to the lectures for clicker points at least! he made us an ai chatbot to help us learn and he is so wholesome. make sure you study for tests thoroughly because they can make or break your grade! love him!!
i took his 8am psy101 course, and he made it very interesting and worth it to go! he actually likes the material and helps you understand, def go to the lectures for the iclicker points. best professor by far
Dr. Laumakis is a good professor for those who don't know anything about psych. He makes the course so interesting and very easy to understand. I had him for 8ams but he made going to class worth looking forward to. Definitely go to class for iClicker questions, they're easy questions and a good way to get your grade up.
very easy class, didn't study all semester and still ended with an A. technically you're supposed to read the textbook but honestly you could skip it. just do all the work on time, show up to class (he takes iclicker points), and do the research requirement asap for the extra credit and so you don't stress over it at the end lol.
Dr. Laumakis is a well-spoken, humorous, and overall very kind man. You can tell he LOVES teaching and makes his lectures very fun. Show up to office hours! He would love to explain a topic or two, or even the entire lecture! I et with him a couple times, and he was super helpful. He does iclicker so show up! Exams are chill. Loved this class.
Dr. L is the best! You can tell that he has such passion for what he teaches and he cares about his students. Such a wholesome fella. Show up to class, he randomly picks what iClicker days go into the grade book and it can shift your grade if you're on the cusp. One bad test can't break your grade, but still use his AI chatbot to study for tests.
Professor Laumakis is amazing, he is very funny and very clear to understand. If you are picking a psy professor DEF PICK Laumakis. AND BTW get your psy research requirement done asappp so you just have to do surveys and not write an article summary. The surveys are quick and easy. I ended his class with a B+ because test #3 was ALOT to cover.
Even though I got a C+ in his class I can definitely say it's my fault due to me not studying as much but he's an AMAZING professor. His lectures are straightforward and clear, makes class engaging with his amazing personality, and tests are exactly the same from his lectures and homework. Would take this class again if I could.
Truly passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are fun and super interesting. Tests are easy MCQ's. Not a lot of homework. Many EC opportunities. Overall, this is a great professor and a great class.
