Very high energy, interactive teaching, I really enjoyed it.
Good powerpoints and real life examples that related to class topics.
professor is good, but he is strict with formatting of the assignment.
The class was very interesting and provided a new prospective for me personally. The lectures were fact based and provided real time solutions for real time human resource issues. I would recommend this class to any of my colleagues. The interactive manner Dr. Light employed allowed the class to be a part of the process.
Fast paced, engaging, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and real world based. Dr. Mark Light has years of successful real world experience, and brings that into the classroom through stories, which add to the content of the text. He is a caring, supportive instructor and I would not hesitate to take a course with him again.
5 writing assignments, no mid-term exam, but final exam was in the computer lab.
Dr. Light is brilliant!
Dr. Light is great-not too tough of a grader but does expect a lot of class participation so make sure to do the readings or at least review them somewhat before class!
Anybody would be lucky to have Dr. Light as a professor, manger or mentor. His enthusiasm and passion for helping others become effective leaders in any industry was apparent from day 1. I took the class not realizing it was an elective & 100% believe the class should be mandatory. I look forward to taking more classes under Dr. Light's guidance!
Dr Light led a whirlwind journey through the shadows and into the light. He exhibits a high-octane approach to teaching, extensive use of entertaining and informative teaching aids (videos), and efficient use of the text. For the first time, I am sad to see the quarter end. There are no dark spots for the man named Light. Highly recommended!
Dr. Light is an awesome addition to the DePaul SPS staff. So glad I took him for MPS500 and chose a class with him for next quarter too!
Dr. Light is by far one of the best professors I have had in Higher Ed. He really breaks down the material so that you can understand it and apply it to everyday scenarios. Also, I love the video clips that support course materials being presented! Dr. Light ROCKS!
Alot of chamges to the syllabus. Somethings confusing. But overall he was a veru good professor and made the subject esay to learn.
Dr. Mark Light is a very helpful professor. He's a bit on the eccentric side, but gets the job done and really cares about his students. He'll keep you on your toes and it won't be just another boring lecture.
Dr. Light genuinely cares about his students and attacks his lectures with passion and creativity. I've never had a professor who lectures like he does.
I wasn't very interested in the topic (Human Resource Management), but Dr. Light brings it to life. He has plenty of examples, and skillfully engages the class in the content. I wouldn't hesitate to take Dr. Light's class again. He's very helpful and fair, too.
I enjoyed this professor very much
It was a pleasure taking ethics with Dr. Light. He passes no judgment and opens up to students about his own successes and failures. Classes are always interesting and entertaining - but you must read so you can participate!!
Dr. Light is among the best at SPS. He is engaging and knowledgable. He skillfully intergrates his experiences, your experience and research to bring clarity to the subject. He is always well prepared, his class is well paced and he is fair and even grader. He's funny as well (helps you stay awake!)
Dr. Light is one of the most enthusiastic professors I have ever encountered. You will be thoroughly engaged and entertained in his class. He provides a wealth of practical information and presents it in a thoughtful and genuine manner. He also takes a sincere interest in his students and their experiences. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Light was great. I usually lose interest in classes half way through but Dr. Light keeps the class engaged and focus. Thanks to him, the class is actually fun!
Very fun class! The assignments were sometimes harder to write just because of Dr. Light's specific but otherwise, I learned alot and enjoyed being in his class-keeps you engaged and because of Dr. Light's enthusiasm, makes me want to learn more!! KUDOS....
Extremely energetic, knowledgable, and funny! Highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Light! He's the type of professor you want to stay in touch with after the class is over.
Dr. Light is among the best. You leave the class feeling like you got your money's worth. Very clear and fair on expectations. Provides very applicable and useful information directly relating to real world problems. You'd be crazy to be in SPS and not take him.
By far, one of the best SPS professors at DePaul. His passion and enthusiasm for student success is apparent in every class! Use the memo template he provides and answer every question in each assignment. Dr. Light maps out exactly what he is looking for in papers and projects. Looking forward to taking another class with him.
Great professor - very enthusiastic! Class is always interesting!
One of the best, most memorable professors in SPS at DePaul. He keeps you interested in the topic throughout the entire class and truly cares for his students. You will leave his class a better person.
Dr. Light is a great professor! He is truly an asset to SPS. He puts a lot of planning into his PowerPoint, bring practical case examples and presents the material in clear and concise manor. He is also very engaging!
Dr. Light is amazaing. I was engaged for all 9 classes. He is funny and brings in many life experieces to compliment theory with. If I had another quarter at DePaul I would take him again.
Dr. Light is an excellent professor. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about human talent management. He structures course content around the textbook's chapters. Every lecture was interactive and engaging. Be prepared to participate in class discussions. Overall, Dr. Light makes a seemingly boring topic quite interesting.
Dr. Light is fantastic. My first class at SPS was with him (MPS 500) and I loved him for that class as well. He is energetic and very funny. He keeps you engaged and makes boring material more interesting. He uses real world examples to teach the material. I highly recommend taking a class with him. By far my favorite so far.
You can Light actually cares about his students and is passionate about HR. If you don't agree with your grade, talk to him. If you have a legitimate argument he will hear you out.
Dr. Light is a wonderful professor. He relies heavily on power points BUT they are interesting and to the point. I definitely seek out his classes.
Dr. Light is outstanding. He as Ex Dir of a theater for many years and draws from experience. He expects good work and is challenging, as it should be, but his expectations are straight forward and not trickey.
This class was a great experience, amazing inspiration and give me outstanding knowledge! Dr Light is a great professor with a great baggage of knowledge that will change your life in better! Do your work and pay attention to what he wants you to do in your assignment and you will be okay. Ask for help if you need it! Great, Great class!!
Great professor! Keeps you interested and on your toes. Love the presentations and hearing about his personal experience. Highly recommended!
HE IS AN EXCELLENT LECTURER. HE KNOWS THE STUFF. HE HELPS STUDENTS NOT ONLY TO UNDERSTAND THE SUBJECT BUT ALSO HOW TO APPLY IT AS FUTURE MANAGERS. GOD BLESS MARK!THANKS!
Dr. Light is an all around good guy. He makes class interesting and integrates real life situations to classwork. I definitely recommend him for an introductory class.
Really enjoyed the class. Real-life application. Current events examples weaved into every class. Very approachable and clear on expected deliverables. Would definitely take another class with him!
Dr. Light was very available to help outside classroom. He was really fair with grading. He was really awesome. He made class really fun. He made us all laugh all the times!
fun lecturer
Mark Light is a wonderful professor with a lot of knowledge on the subject! I have learned so much from his class. He is easy to get along with, and offers help as needed.
Dr. Light has been a tremendous help throughout the entire course. Awesome introduction to SPS!
Dr. Light is extremely supportive and insightful. He makes evening classes engaging through high-energy lectures and video clips, and by linking theory to students' experiences and stories. He is clear on his expectations and works hard to make sure you are on the right path.
He is hilariously hilarious, fun, funny, engaging, interesting, smart, knowledgable. He is a great professor! Keeps the class and materials very interesting, classes felt shorter than they really were. GREAT class!!!
I took MPS 500 with Professor Light. As the other reviews say, he is bright, energetic, fun, and very funny. He uses well organized Power Points to teach and includes some amazingly relevant videos. The texts were relatively inexpensive and in the field of non-profit management, completely indispensable. I would definitely take him again!
Lots of energy during class. Never got bored.
Dr. Light was very energetic, funny, and you could tell he really enjoys teaching.
Dr. Light is very engaging and makes class fun and energetic. He is extremely particular in what he wants, but he is explicit in letting you know and always there if you need help or clarity. He grades on if you meet his specifications, so don't be afraid to ask for help.
Prof. Light is very direct about what he wants so follow assignment guidelines. He's very accessible so you can get a quick answer without much effort on your part if you're unsure about something.
Good energy in teaching style. Always entertaining.
Great professor. Funny and helpful!
This course is interesting AND relevant. Dr. Light's lectures kept my attention throughout the 3 hour class. Most importantly, he is student centered.
Professor Light is an exceptional instructor, he not only is stimulating and informative, but he makes it a point to get to know his students and makes time outside of class to ensure that his students do well!
Great class! There is never a dull moment with Professor Light.
Dr. Light is one of a kind. He creates a great atmosphere that is engaging and humorous. I truly felt he was dedicated to his students.
He is a do good GREAT professor!
Loves videos and keeps you involved the entire class period. Also, he will sing you Carly Rae Jempsen's "Call me maybe"
Very engaging prof. Definitely makes class fun.
Dr. Light always made class fun and interesting. He has very specific requirements, which may seem overwhelming at first. But in the end, as I looked at my final strategic plan, I realized he had trained us to write succinctly, effectively, and appropriately for the work environment. I recommend enrolling in his course.
Professor Mark Light kept the class interesting with funny stories, videos and real life scenarios (for the most part :-))
Mark is great! So enthusiastic and engaging. Keeps your attention throughout class and uses real-life examples to enhance the content.
Each class was very interesting and I was enlightened!
Dr. Light is the epitome of a quality management program. His years of experience outside the classroom provide real life examples for management techniques and theories. I've taken multiple classes with him and I would absolutely do it again.
Dr. Light is great! I wish I had the opportunity to have him more than once during my time at DePaul. He makes such an effort to include real-life scenarios into the lectures, which helped to keep the material relevant and interesting!
Dr. Light is not a professor that will let you sit back and coast through class..but this is grad school, get with it! He is very engaging and knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches. His assignments are tedious but VERY clear on expectations. I am honestly looking forward to having Dr.Light in the future.
Dr. Light is a wonderful teacher that really tries to engage everyone in the class and allow them to share experiences that are relevant, as well as provide advice for how to deal with things that happen every day. This was a great class and I learned a lot!
Dr. Light definitely makes the class interesting and applicable to current events and situations.
Dr. Light has a unique teaching style, but unique in a very good way. He provides informative power points and brings so many cases and personal experiences to the class which makes the material more interesting. He is very enthusiastic which often rubs off on the class. He's definitely one of those teachers you will always remember.
Dr Light is engaging and is interested in the student's offerings to class. I will try to take a class with Dr Light in the future.
Dr. Light brings great energy to each class and goes over content that's practical to what you'll experience. I'd be surprised if he's not your favorite professor!
Dr. Light is very clear with what he expects of students and is a fair grader. He is a very engaging teacher and relates course material to real world situations that we may encounter. I definitely recommend taking one of his classes.
I have take two classes with Dr. Light and plan on taking a third. That should say something right there. I second everything the other reviews have said about his enthusiasm but I was impressed with how genuinely interested he was in helping me outside class. He is someone I hope to stay in touch with long after I graduate.
Professor Light is dynamic, entertaining, knowledgeable and always ready/willing to help students succeed. Many comment that he is difficult, but he simply has high standards for each student. While he can be tough with grading, he is also very clear about exactly what he wants with each assignment, and makes himself available to assist students.
While Mark's class was a challenge and a lot was expected of students, I really enjoyed it. He wants his students to succeed and is always available by phone or email. Mark was one of the best teachers I've ever had and I hope to take him again during my program.
Honestly one of the best instructors I have ever had. He is tough but fair, wants you to succeed! He is ALWAYS available to help. Hope to take him again.
Dr. Light is a fantastic professor. Take his class. You will learn a lot and enjoy it. He is extremely engaging. He is not an easy grader, but it is easy to get an A in this class. he gives you strict and clear guidelines - all you have to do is follow them. MY TIP: If you have questions... ASK. He gives you his cell phone number. Use it.
Dr. Light, is a great professor, and willing to go that extra mile to assist his students' to becoming good great.
This was a class that is mandatory for me to take. All of the content was new to me. Athought I was worried at first that the course would be dry- it wasn't at all! Dr. Light is not only a really fair and excellent teacher, but he also has a unique teaching style that blends humor to make the course FUN. not an easy course, but its a great cours!
Without a doubt one of the most invested professors I have ever encountered. He goes the extra mile to help students succeed. The material is not too difficult, but Dr. Light makes it enjoyable.
Dr. Light is a ball of energy and teaches a phenomenal class on HR. He uses real life case studies and news articles, so the material is extremely applicable to any business manager. Assignments are short and to the point. Additional readings are topical and engaging. GREAT CLASS!!
Dr. Light is a very engaging instructor and is enthusiastic about what he teaches. His classes are entertaining and while he is a tough grader, he is very fair. He is available at any time to answer any questions his students may have and really wants his students to succeed. I would recommend taking a class with Dr. Light to any student.
Dr. Light was surprisingly refreshing. If you work full-time, I suggest you take his courses. He keeps you engaged and interested for the entire 3 hours. I really needed that. His work can be comprehensive if you follow his templates and do the reading. I strongly suggest you meet with him or call him, you understand better w/face time!
Mark is a very helpful professor! He is strict in format, but overall a good prof and friend
Mark is a enthusiastic and passionate about teaching public service. He believes in his students and urges all to "do good great".
Helpful. Funny. Clear. One of my fave teachers at DePaul!
Dr.Light's joy in teaching this material is obvious. He's enthusiastic about the subject. I have never experienced a professor who offered as much help as he does. This was a very challenging class, but I learned a lot!
Clear words. But the topics are not in deep.
Fantastic professor. Always very clear and very helpful. Had a great time in his class.
Great energetic teacher
Very smart! Love his class.
Very smart. Love his class.
Dr. Light is an an outstanding Professor and really pushes you to be great. He is one of my top professor during my entire academic career.
Dr. Light is a great professor. Always willing to be helpful. Although a tough grader he makes himself available to answer questions of the reading materials and written assignments. I suggest always following his strict format. This is a very challenging class but the topics are engaging.
Prof. Light is very sharp. He is very helpful and dedicated. If you follow his direction well, you will get a good grade. And at the end, you will be able to see with a broader perspective because of the four frame work that you learn in the class.
Great teacher and class! Looked forward to going and Mr. Light made it all interesting. Highly recommended!
I understand all the great feedback because he is very funny and engaged, but that does not make him a great teacher. He is all over the place, subject matter is presented with way too many symbols and videos and is difficult to follow. There are more effective professors at DePaul.
His class if funny and engaging. You will spend more time trimming your papers than writing them. He emphasizes accurate, clear and succinct writing.
I really enjoyed this course. Professor Light provided clear and easy to follow powerpoints. He used great examples, videos and pictures to ensure students fully understood the concepts being discussed. The content of the course is interesting as well. He is one of the most helpful and engaging professors I have ever had.
He is a great teacher. You definitely learn from him!
Dr. Light in the best professor at DePaul's School of Public Service. Take his class every opportunity that you get!
Dr. Light is passionate about what he does and the topics he teaches, and wants to ignite the same passion in his students. Don't take him if you're not fully invested. His expectations are clear, and if you follow them, you will succeed. He makes class more entertaining than most.
He's very passionate about what he teaches, he's engaging and always willing to help students outside of the classroom at almost any time of the day. He's a hard grader but in the end you learn a ton, totally worth it.
Dr. Light is very interested in the student's personal development and I think that is what makes him so great. If you want to learn and grow as an individual take his classes.
Professor Light was a very good teacher. He really cares about the students and that you actually learn something. He isn't crazy about assignments and actually is very generous in allowing students make up assignments because he wants you to do well as long as you make the effort.
He's a great teacher with a lot of enthusiasm. He actually cares about teaching and student success. He's always available to help and is a great resource for many different topics.
Great professor. Very engaging and motivating. I always look forward to his classes.
Dr. Light is the best teacher!!
Dr. Light is an amazing professor, who is not only cognizant of his students, but is always striving to improve with each and every minute of every class. He not only is an effective communicator, but holds himself and his students to the highest standards. I would highly recommend him in any environment especially in hr, management and conflict:
How is it that his account is flooded with feedback? And few such feedback is about the content of the courses itself. He is a good speaker but am not convinced about the rigor of the materials chosen in the course. It could be significantly improved.
Dr. Light's class is engaging. His 522 class taught me an incredible amount of management skills. Most classes teach theory but his class teaches actual, real world skills. Left the class a better manager! I also enjoyed the interview assignments. The exposure to working professionals allowed for insight and networking opportunities.
I agree with the former reviewer about the rigor of the materials covered. Theory is part of rigorous learning and its importance should not be diminished. Theory informs practice and vice-versa; more of the former can only improve the latter. Scholarly materials need more attention than all the show & talk about practice.
Full of energy and engaging. Participation and off-site trip provided excellent learning. One-on-one interest from Dr Light extremely helpful.
Loved, loved, loved this class with Dr. Light. Fantastic. I wish he did some of the online classes at DePaul. Can't say enough about how much I enjoyed his class.
I absolutely love his MPS 500 class. Expectations are clear from the beginning there's no bs of trying to guess what he wants. Dr. Light is extremely gifted in teaching and being a mentor. His syllabus and his readings are all purposefully and meaningfully drawn. To be successful in his course do good great.
Great introduction to Depaul's SPS program. Looking forward to another course with Dr. Light.
This class is the basis for your studies, and trust me when I say there is much to learn about being a great manager. Dr. Light does an excellent job presenting an overwhelming amount of information in relatable, even fun ways. He's not afraid to challenge students, to make you work for it. Plus when he says "call me with questions", he means it.
Professor Light is one of my favorites. He is passionate about teaching, about the students learning, and about the students succeeding (in the classroom and program). He is always available for the students. He teaches using multiple learning methods (i.e. videos, discussion, etc) so you can understand it no matter your learning style.
AWSOMENESS!!
It was a great class, very informative! Professor Light motivates his students to want to know more about the subject.
Enjoyed Dr. Light's class! Lots of class participation and interactive clips that help illustrate the concepts.
Great class. It's better to take Dr. Light's class if you had him for MPS 500.
Dr. Mark is great, he has his own style and you can't be bored in his class for even a second. Very engaging.
Learnt a lot in this class.
SO enthusiastic! He makes the class fun with lots of youtuve clips. Always willing to help outside of class. Great professor!
Very entertaining classes. Papers focus on ideas, not page length.
Dr. Light is a great teacher, he is class is dynamic and he is really helpful when you don't understand something.
Dr. Light is a very enthusiastic professor, and it is easy to see he is passionate about the field of public service. He has a tendency to let students run the class off subject, though he always stays in his time frame. I enjoyed his class overall, though I would suggest improvement through planning to stay on topic and apply theory with practice
His lectures are funny and his presentations hold you attention the entire class. Be prepared for class because he will call on you. Very helpful and always makes time to help his students.
I will sumerize Dr. Light's MPS 500 course in a nut shell: I will never take another course with Dr. Light. He IS A VERY TOUGH GRADER. He coaches you before the assignments BUT its a waste of time because your grade will not improve.
Class was very informative and interesting. I was blessed to have him as my professor for he was very responsive and offered coaching if you were struggling with an assignment.
Very engaging teaching style - great for night classes after an 8 hour work day. He requires a very specific, minimal writing style for assignments, which was a little challenging to get used to, but once I did it was fine. He's always available via phone or email.
LOVE IT!!!
Loved the class.
This was my second class with him, in short, I would like to say that Dr. Light and his classes are this program's saving grace when it comes to engaging, entertaining and inspiring courses. His classes are not entirely easy, you have to work for your grade... but if you have an option of taking him I strongly recommend you do so.
Dr. Light is a phenomenal instructor and it was a sincere privilege to sit in his classes (MPS 522 and MPS 594). He will not let skate through the quarter and he will bring out the best in you. He asks you to put a 5-page paper into 1-2 pages, and you will write some of the best papers of you academic career. Aside from being a great instructor,
Dr. Light is an amazing resource and anyone interested in nonprofit management should take his class. He will give you tools and systems that you can easily use throughout your career. Plus, he makes learning really engaging. His assignments aren't easy, but he's very specific about what he's looking for. You'll be glad you took his class!
Lectures were great, but he is just all over the place. He makes you write in a very specific way, for better or worse, I recommend you just do exactly as he asks to save yourself the headache.
The class was at times a bit challenging, but Dr. Light is a great professor. He not only offers his help and guidance day and night, but he strongly encourages it. He is enthusiastic, makes class interesting, and has a strong passion for teaching. I look forward to taking more of his courses in the future!
Dr. Light makes going to class fun. He's as much an entertainer as he is a teacher. His assignments are oddly specific and he grades that way. I found myself looking forward to this class and not dreading the assignments.
Professor Light is a very good teacher and often hilarious. He keeps the class sessions interesting with creative powerpoints and video clips. Be prepared to provide your opinion on a variety of topics during the lecture.
Dr. Light is a great professor. His lectures are engaging and stimulating. Participation is required, but helpful. Assignments are short, but require adherence to guidelines.
Dr. Light is great.
A rather confused and confusing set of slides used throughout the quarter. Not entirely useful.
I think this class really lead me to rethink of the behaviors whether is ethical or not, and the lecture is really well-organized, keeping the main concepts and models on mind. And the homework are not difficult.
Professor Light is awesome!
The best professor I have ever had. Acquired great tools for life in all his classes. A Master of teaching
Dr. Light is lively. Lectures are not boring and you will not fall asleep. This guy is a character, but provides a very structured path to your grades. Apply yourself a bit and have some fun and you will get a B. Work a little harder and follow his comments on your papers and you will get and -A. Bust your butt a bit and solid A.
This is the second time I've taken a course from Dr. Light, and I hope to have the chance to take a few more. He is the best instructor I've had at DePaul.
Dr. Light is a phenomenal teacher. I looked forward to his lectures each week and hope to take another course. He keeps the class engaged and structures the quarter very well. I only wish some slides had less on them- his illustrations become hard to follow. Assignments are short - you will do well if you follow his guidelines and use his feedback.
Dr. Light is the best professor I have ever come across. I always wanted to be able to say that about a professor and finally can now that I have taken his class. He is helpful, intelligent, and engaging. He truly cares about his students and knows what he's talking about. The man is a genius and a great "problem-solver".
Would definitely take more classes with Dr Light
Great professor! really great at presenting information in new ways!
Dr. Light is a great professor who is literally willing to talk to you 24/7 if you have any issues. Lectures are interesting because of his teaching style. Would definitely take another class with him. Great intro into graduate school
Professor Light is amazing! His style of lecturing is extremely interesting and he keeps his students engaged in the class. He is a joy. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Light is one of the best professors that I have had thus far. He is very fair and if you seek help on the assignments, he will be there fr you. Don't be afraid to ask him for help if you need. Overall, great lectures.
Dr. Light is a great professor. He truly enjoys his job - teaching and coaching - and it made the learning objectives so much easier to grasp. DePaul is lucky to have him on staff.
Dr. Light is a fantastic professor--the best I've ever had! He's incredibly passionate about helping students. I learned a great deal in his class and would highly recommend him!
Amazing professor! Is always available for help and class is intersting. He also shows clips that are relevant to the topic.
Dr. Light is so enthusiastic he makes management seem exciting. Shadowing his class is what made my final decision to attend DePaul and he did not disappoint. He's extremely energetic and for those long night classes that's a quality that is crucial to stay engaged. If you follow directions to a T you will get high A's on everything.
Very engaging in his lectures and interactive with students.
Dr. Light is an engaging, humorous professor sincerely interested in helping students succeed. He makes himself available via multiple ways. He continually sharpens his teaching techniques to ensure students understand concepts. It was joy being in his class because you learn something new and gain a positive outlook about managing people.
Dr. Light is fantastic. He is very interesting and funny. It's clear he has put a lot of effort into preparation and fine-tuning. He doesn't waste a minute of your time. Also very helpful and caring outside of class.
This was my first class in Grad School. Not having any expectations, I was blown away by Dr. Light! Such a fantastic professor. Very interactive and full of energy. If you want an A you have to follow his guidelines to the T. He is very accessible and he encourages you to ask if you need help.
Dr Light is very knowledgeable about the things he teaches, mostly because he practices them in real life. He also uses very good sources and reading material. He does tend to waste a bit of time trying to entertain, but it really helps ease the burden of a very long night class.
Dr. Light is full of experience and knowledge. He knows how to present his experience and knowledge in an entertaining and productive way. His passion and confidence in what he teaches shows through each lecture and conversation with him. He is definitely dedicated to the success of his students. I plan to take another class from him again!
If you can take a class from Dr. Light, do it! He is passionate about what he does and wants to see his students succeed. I look forward to taking another class from him in the future.
Dr Light is tough but fair. He's very engaging and motivational. This is my third class with him and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He makes me challenge myself.
very enthusiastic but at times hard to follow
Mark kept each class interesting with stimulating discussion and great video clips. He is an example of a great ethical leader.
Dr. Light knows how to engage students. The real-life case studies we discussed provided me with knowledge I can actually use at work. He takes the time to give detailed feedback on papers and makes himself available to sit with you outside of class hours. I plan to take other classes from him.
Dr. Light is an outstanding Professor, he was my first Professor at DePaul, as well as my last. I recommend taking all of the classes that he teaches!
Gives good advice
Kepts lecture entertaining and engaging
Great professor! Brings in real life scenarios and cases so you can relate to the material being taught in class. Very effective teacher!
This was the third class I took with Dr. Light. He stands out among faculty in his dedication to students. He puts considerable effort into preparing for each class session and makes himself available in person, by email and by phone outside of class. Very knowledgeable, thoughtful and willing to go the extra mile for his students.
Course was a turning point in my attitude to education
Weird grading criteria for a grad program: Dr. Light is an enjoyable prof but his obsession with "proper" formatting over substance of assignments is quite irritating. In short he once refused to give me feedback on my paper until I reformatted to his exact font, line spacing, etc. Not a productive method of teaching.
This was my second class with Dr. Light! He's really funny and can be somewhat repetitive, but I still feel like I have learned a lot in both of his classes. He tries to keep the class entertained and DEFINITELY requires participation, but he makes it easy by just calling on everyone randomly. He's easy to talk to and he gives helpful feedback.
Tells good jokes to keep students engaged
I really enjoyed being a student in Professor Light's class. He has a very unique way of capturing and holding your attention during lecture, the assignments are interesting, and he is very genuine. My only suggestion would be place less importance on assignment formatting and more on content.
It is a pleasure to attend Dr. Light's class. The difficulty level is appropriate; substance of class material above average and applicable. He encourages participation which adds to the class. Night classes after a full work day can be rough. He's kind of like going to the gym.... worth it once you get there. Great class; super neat professor.
Dr. Light is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is smart, hilarious, and his mind moves fast, so you won't be bored. He's very clear about what he wants from his students and as long as you follow those rules, you're good. He wants to be involved and to help you. Seriously, take every class you can from this guy. He is a real gem.
Professor Light is one of a kind, his passion for professional development in the student is phenomenal. I would definitely recommend him, and take another course of his.
Dr. Light is a knowledgeable, engaging and cares about his students. He wants to see his students grow and make sure his class is beneficial to students and able to apply what we have learned in the real world. This is the second time I have had Dr. Light and I hope to take another class from him soon!
HR is mandatory for MPA students-and he's the only one who teaches it. The "lit review" he asks for is definitely not a literature review. I counted down the days until I was done with this class. Two grand for clips of The Office and poorly led classes. Do the MPP now that it's offered to avoid this class.
Prof. Light's lectures are informative and entertaining. He uses lots of movie clips to illustrate points which helps keep you engaged. He is energetic and funny. He loves to call on people so be prepared to participate in class. He sets very clear expectations for assignments and gives good feedback. He makes himself available outside of class.
To say Dr. Light is a great professor is an understatement. He stands by his "Do Good Great" motto. Always eager to educate his students and make sure you're not dozing off in class with his engaging lectures. He will make you laugh, make you learn, and make sure you never forget to do good great as well.
