LONGOOO...loves to talk and is the man....thats all you need to know...i took the mcb w research lit course....if he ever teaches a course and you see him teaching it take it....it will be worth your time...best professor ive ever had

easy class, especially for a W. grades writing easy. he's a little unorganized/prepared for lectures and quiz questions can be really specific. overall, though, totally recommend taking the class. one of the nicest people on the planet - really cares, loves what he does, generally available, simplifies writing assignments/requirements. real person.

genetics is a complex subject, and dr longo taught it really well (he teaches the first 2/3). the only use the textbook has is the optional practice problems assigned with the study guides. Tests are reasonable and lowest 2 quizzes and 1 exam is dropped. great class overall! his powerpoints are really good. also, he kinda resembles bill gates.

Taught first 2/3 of the class. The material was very interesting, and he presented it very well. The quizzes were fairly easy if you know the material, but you do need to have a good understanding of what's going on in lecture I would not recommend habitually skipping lecture, but the quizzes are a week behind the material so you can if you must.

He is a great teacher and will not test you on anything he hasn't mentioned in class, thus going to lecture is mandatory. You don't need the book since his exams are basically his PowerPoint slides. Weekly quizzes are harder than exams. The TA help hours are helpful before exams since they clarify how much you will need to know for the exam.

Professor Longo is a really nice guy. The weekly quizzes in discussion were very similar to your exams, so his expectations were pretty clear cut. Study from his power-points, attend class, and you'll be good. He is really interested in what he talks about, so it makes it interesting. Plus, he drops one of your exams which is nice.

This class is applied course unlike bio 1107, but Longo does his best to make the material as easy as possible. The exams are OK, but only out of 50 points and are pretty lengthy, so you will need every minute. Lecture isn't mandatory since slides are posted online. Just need to study PP. I liked him way better than Malone. Emails back quickly.

Engaging lectures - very reasonable amount of homework. And the testsexams are really easy as long as you do the study guides.

I went in because I am MCB major and it is supposedly the easiest of the other courses. The class is broken down into 3 parts, I personally found the first one very easy and everyone breezed through it. But 2nd was getting tougher and 3rd was okay. Overall very helpful and clear instructions .Would recommend!

Took the honors section. Really good lecturer, very clear. Doing the readings is pretty important. The discussion section was super duper helpful and a huge chunk of exam material comes from discussions.

Honestly the class is super easy and Longo is a great lecturer. I don't know how people find this class hard. It's an exact rehash from material in 1107. Discussion section quizzes are annoying but easy and make up a large portion of your grade. Exams are identical in difficulty to the quizzes. No need to read the book. Cram and you're good.

Mark Longo is a good guy, not to mention, funny! His slides are all over the place, but his oral lecture is pretty straight forward. Study off the discussion quizzes, and study FOR them. They are kinda tricky. Final was identical to the 3 exams! Easy exams as long as you understand material. Hope you have a good TA! Don't bother buying textbook.

This class was great! The exam were pretty fair, and only the material that either Dr. Longo or the TAs covered in discussion section was on the exams. It's pretty easy to get an A as long as you read the power point slides. The launchpad assignments were a joke and graded upon completion. Easy weekly quizzes. Would take again!

You can tell Longo's a really great guy. Extra credit is offered which adds 10 points to your discussion grade so as long as you get a 90 avg on the quizzes you're set. The weekly quizzes are not hard as long as you review the material beforehand. The exams are EXACTLY like the quizzes. Study off them along with the PowerPoints and you'll do well.

I took it in the Summer, he is a really good lecturer. Makes the 3 hour class fly by. However, all the material that I've learned is just a review from Microbiology and General Biology. Exams are not hard at all. He gives practice problems which are similar to the problems on the exams. I highly recommend this class. Not difficult to get an A.

Took during May Semester, so a lot of material was cut out. Very straightforward, we had old quizzes as practice, and they were really similar to the exams. He babbles a little but we did the practice packet together, which made material a lot more concrete. Pretty easy to get an A without studying.

Took in the intensive May session. If you are focus and willing to dedicate time and at least review materials right after class this will be an easy A. So much better than the regular semester, he is an AMAZING professor and person. 3 hours lecture were never boring and very engaging. I would definitely recommend Mark Longo to everybody

I thought Dr. Longo did a much better job presenting genetics material that Dr. Malone, who taught the first half of the semester. Dr. Longo explained confusing concepts in a way that helps you understand. Lecture are important, and the textbook was good reinforcement of the lecture concepts. Exams are hard, but not impossible if you study well.

Dr. Malone and Dr. Longo are AWESOME. They're extremely knowledgable, friendly, and approachable, plus they're funny. Class is based on 3 exams, discussion grade, online homework, and final. They give you the opportunity to add 10 whole points to your disc. grade and curved. SUPER NICE AND MANAGEABLE CLASS, not hard if you work for it!!

In MCB 2410 I preferred Longo's teaching style to Malone's since Longo took more time with concepts whereas Malone was quick. Dr. Longo is clearly really interested in what he teaches, and will make an effort to help you do what you need to do to get a good grade. Discussion is SO important, and the exams are basically from that.

Honors Genetics with Longo was a blast! Hes very enthusiastic about the material and posts his thorough slides online. Tests & quizzes can be tricky in wording but he offers up to 10 extra points towards your quiz average & 3 dropped quizzes. Do all the online homework and extra credit, skim the textbook, study his slides, and youll do well.

Main components of grade: articles quizzes, presentations, summary paper and final review paper. Summary paper had to be 5 pages, while the review paper was 10. He gives you all semester to work on the review paper. Plus a very lenient grader, so if you just try you will get an A. Would really recommend this W course for any mcb student.

He is such an awesome professor at UConn. The grading criteria is very clear and the exams are super easy (only if you read all his slides and understood them well). The discussion quizzes are hard and the worksheets are so long that the TAs can never go over all the questions ever. He grades the highest two exam grades 20% and lowest one 10%.

You need to be in class everyday as participation is 10% of the grade. Two papers and two presentations. Pop quizzes for the articles he assigns you to read. Very doable class if you put a little effort in it. Longo was amazing and very funny throughout the semester. Will recommend every mcb major to take this W course. Very approachable too!

His lectures can be long and dense, but he knows how to make students laugh and refocus. Review the lecture slides and the quizzes/exams will be a breeze. TAs are also super nice. Drops 3-4 quizzes. Top 2 exams are graded at 20% each, while the lowest exam grade is only 10%. Extra credit through online activities. Honors seminars are a pain to find

Dr. Longo is a great professor and is very very fair with exams and grading. I highly recommend taking regular genetics instead of Human genetics. I enjoyed listening to lecture and he gives MANY opportunities for extra credit. Very fair with exam grades.

Dr. Longo is awesome! Class is structured very well with EC opportunities, 3 exams (lowest weighted at 10% instead of 20%), straightforward final, weekly online Sapling homework, and discussion grade. Weekly discussion quizzes come straight from discussion worksheets. Exam questions come from worksheets/quizzes. Exams aren't bad. Would recommend.

Longo is a great genetics prof! His lectures are pretty interesting and while attendance is encouraged for extra credit he does post the notes online. Weekly quizzes can be tricky but TAs are pretty helpful in pointing out what to expect. Extra credit is available. 3 exams and a final - top 2 of the exams are 20% and the last is 10%. Final is 25%

Longo is a good choice for 2410. The lectures can get dry at times, but overall the material is interesting. You have to go to lecture because he says stuff that shows up on the exams that aren't on the slides. Go over minutiae on slides bc he sometimes tests on weirdly specific things.

Prof. Longo is a very good genetics professor that explains the concepts really well! Read the OPTIONAL textbook after watching the lectures (which will help you with the quizzes and exams)! Although I'm not a fan of his weekly quizzes, he is willing to drop 3 of our lowest graded quizzes. Definitely recommend Longo to everyone!

The online format definitely made this class harder to adjust to in the beginning of the semester, however Professor Longo was pretty lenient overall. He provides opportunities for extra credit and is super helpful during office hours. The course is pretty lecture heavy, so make sure to stay on top of those and take thorough notes on the slides!

As long as you show up to lecture and take notes you should get at least a B. Very light workload, and the honors section is only about 1 hour of extra work per week. Professor Longo is open to changing quiz and exam grades if you email him and explain why you think one of his answers is wrong.

I enjoyed this class and thought it was well taught. Some exams were harder than others, but all are doable.

I enjoyed this class. Professor Longo was good at responding to emails and is very reasonable with his grades. If you disagree with question, he is open to hear your logic and if it is sound, will give you credit back. He gives plenty of opportunities to get a good grade.

He is very engaged with students and tries his best to make sure that everyone understands the material. This class is graded by the weekly quizzes and the 4 exams (including the final). He' replies fast if you email him and is very accessible outside of class. He holds QnA sessions before exams and is willing to negotiate quiz /exam questions

Dr Longo was fantastic and a bright spot for me in the time of Covid. I very rarely if ever right reviews on professors but Dr Longo was outstanding. His classes where extremely interesting and the class isnt too bad. 10/10

Dr. Longo was a great professor. He gave you everything you needed to do well in the course. He responded quickly to emails and gave extra credit opportunities. This course did have a lot more math than I was expecting, but it wasnt bad as long as you followed along in discussion. Your grade is made up of quizzes and exams, so be sure to keep up.

Do the extra credit on Sapling, it will give you so many free extra points. Lectures are pretty long and drawn out (I put them on 2x speed) and he tends to accidentally go off topic, but it's because he's passionate. I didn't interact with him much, only my TA during discussion, but he was nice over email and gave assignments. Weekly easy quizzes.

Took this class during May session, Class format was 3 quiz and 1 exam per week. No extra credit, since this was only 3 weeks course. You don't really need textbook for this course. Just go over recorded lectures, problem sets and slides. Overall I enjoyed this class and he was very accommodating and replied fast to emails.

Great professor, Not too difficult. Class consists of lectures and a discussion section where the key concepts are solidified into the basics of what you need to know. There are lockdown quizzes every week and 3 exams throughout the semester (and a final). Def do the extra credit as it helps you study+ earn points towards quiz average.

Taking Eukaryotic Genomics with Dr. Longo was an absolute joy! Even though I did terrible on the first exam (since it's all open-ended questions), I worked my way up and aced the other two. Attending his class is a must since lectures are not recorded. He is a great lecturer and the course materials are very interesting & applicable to life as well

Dr. Longo gives weekly quizzes, 3 exams, and a final (all lockdown). He only tests on material he has taught in class and does not try to trick you. All his tests are quite easy especially if you understand the weekly discussion worksheet. He also posts recorded lectures from the previous semesters which is extremely helpful. Overall a great class!

Professor Longo is generally a clear lecturer and always does his best to answer questions. The weekly quizzes can be annoying but a lot of the questions on the exams are similar to the questions on the quizzes and you go over how to do almost all of the questions in the discussion sections. The extra credit is a bit time consuming but worth it.

I absolutely loved Dr. Longo's Eukaryotic Genomics class! The material is very interesting and he explained the genomic concepts really well in his lectures. Definitely attend class like the other reviewer said since he doesn't record his lectures and missing one class can be detrimental to your exam grade. Harder than MCB2410 but still doable.

Overall, MCB 3410 is a great class and Dr. Longo taught it really well. Didn't do too hot on one of the exams but still did well in his class overall since he doesn't weigh the exam too heavily. Final paper and presentation project really helped boosting our grade. Dr. Longo is very understandable if you have any personal problems. Highly recommend

Professor longo is a great guy and great professor. Maybe not the most interesting lectures but you do what he asks and you'll get an A no problem. You actually learn and are graded fairly, the works not too hard. Definitely take this class and any other class with him. I had him for 2410 as well, I would say the same. Highly recommend.

Dr. Longo is a GEM! His class made me fall in love with Genetics. However, attending his lectures as well as the discussion portion is critical. Take advantage of the extra credit offered as weekly quizzes are difficult at times. Exams are similar to quizzes, as is final. Go over those powerpoint slides and discussion worksheets. Class is doable!!!

Great lecturer, if a little dull at times. The weekly quizzes could be challenging but he drops the lowest ones. Even if you skip discussion (my TA was not great at explaining things) still do the worksheets, they help you on the quizzes and exams. Everything is multiple choice.

I love this man. He made genetics so much fun and explained concepts clearly and easily. Textbook is a good resource but he makes it clear that you don't have to know anything we didn't talk about in lecture. Checks in frequently to see if anyone has questions and the class before each exam is review. If you're a stem major, this class is an easy A

Good lecturer. Very kind person, curves some exams. Weekly quizzes on Fridays from material from the previous week which can be annoying, but not too bad. Good personality, and lectures are easy to follow with very clear slides. 3 Exams, plus one final exam.

Professor Longo is a very fun and knowledgeable person, I enjoyed his lectures a lot. Class expectations were very clear and this class is an easy A if you do the extra credit and the discussion worksheets. My TA was awesome too she explains things very clearly.

Dr. Longo was a great teacher who cared about his students. There's no mandatory homework, but if you do it, you'll get 10 bonus points added to your quiz average. Tests and quizzes are strictly based off of his slides, so if you read through them thoroughly, you will do well. Use the textbook as a supplement and to practice.

Lecture, Lecture, Lecture! If you go to lecture and study exactly what he explains in lectures, that is all you need to do and you will be fine. Quizzes keep you on track with your learning so that you don't fall behind.

Dr. Longo is great, may ramble sometimes but it is just because he is so passionate about his work. I had him before and might take his W class to have him again. Voice record his lectures and just add to your notes before the exam and you will be fine. easy course but super informative- Helped me get a research position from the content we learned

This class was amazing! For the weekly quiz, review the slides from the week prior and go through the discussion worksheets. He posts super helpful video explanations going through worksheets. Lectures were very engaging and I looked forward to going! I honestly don't know why people are complaining, he is such a fair grader.

Professor Longo is a great professor, very clear and makes it clear what needs to be known. Discussion worksheets and reviewing lectures are ur best friend for those weekly quizzes. Grade is based entirely on quizzes/exams so kinda sucks if ur not a great test taker, but lots of extra credit available.

Longo was not bad it is really determined by the lockdown quiz's and the lockdown exams but you are able to take it whenever and it is all online so no exams in the classroom. my advice: study more for the quiz's and for the exams study the discussion and go to the discussion because it will help during the exams.

Took Professor Longo's May summer session, material was somewhat complex but his lectures and discussion problems that he provided prepared you very well for the quizzes and the exams. The only downside is quizzes and exams were all that we were graded on. However, he has made the course very doable so in a regular semester it would be even better.

I've only ever heard horror stories from my friends who've taken this class w different profs, but Longo is amazing! Our class was reverse modeled but I honestly liked that. Exams and grading policy are very fair...if you put in effort you shouldn't have an issue doing well in this class. He also holds review sessions before every exam. Great guy!

Prof Longo was the absolute best, class overall was so easy, he clearly outlined and told you exactly what you needed to succeed, so if you did bad that's on you. He is so helpful, def use his office hours, loved this class as an easy easy A

Longo is a decent lecturer I truly just was not interested in the content. The grading scheme is quite forgiving. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT it can help your grade so much. I found discussion pointless but attendance is mandatory with only 3 drops. Overall the class is super doable and even with minimal studying I found myself doing well.

Not a horribly hard class. Prof Longo is a great guy. 3 exams and a final (all online). Homework is tedious and takes long but as long as completed you get 100%. He offers extra credit which is relatively easy. Discussion is fine, there is a graded worksheet for completion (3 get dropped).

longo is a great guy and a passionate lecturer, he did his best to make dry content interesting. his exams are super fair if you attend class and discussion. my fav part was his grading scheme, 30% are freebie hw assignments, he also allows you to earn up to 5 points extra credit which is a gamechanger. love that longo is not out to trick students

Longo seems like a nice guy and is a good lecturer. His exams are on Lockdown (camera & mic) and are very fair. I skipped a bunch of lectures towards the end of the semester and scored a 66 on exam 3, but was still able to end with an A. The extra credit (up to 5 points added to ur total grade!!) is soooo helpful, raised me from a raw A- to an A.

Really nice guy and really great at answering questions. Changed the course up this sem tho so it was mostly textbook based + u gotta learn the material on ur own mostly + build on it in lecture. Didn't rlly work w my learning style but it did for others. But Prof Longo and the TAs were accessible outside of class and good at explaining things.

If you took BIOL 1107/8 the first half-semester repeats it. He gives you a bunch of resources to study, but all you need to do is memorize his in-class slides and redo/understand the discussion worksheets for the exams. TRY on the EC quizzes, it helps ur grade sm. Lectures are kinda boring, but he's a nice guy and makes the class an easy A so 5/5

Longo is a good lecturer, always excited for questions, has amazing TA's for discussion. I had Rosie Mirabella and she was THE BEST. The exams are online but lockdown browser. I thought the exams were annoying because the questions were always tricky, and the content was difficult, especially later on. Study the slides. HW takes a long time to do.

Professor Longo's MCB2410 class can be challenging, but engaging lectures and helpful discussion worksheets make it doable. Review the slides and worksheets to ace the quizzes and exams. Unstuck AI is a great tool to supplement your studies.

Prof Longo is so sweet and his grading is the best from any professor I have taken! 25% of your grade is a 100 as long as you do the homework and go to discussions and the TAs are all great! I would definitely study what is on the slides and the discussion worksheets to do well!

It's clear Professor Longo wants students to succeed in his classes. There is extra credit and exams are weighted differently. The quizzes and exams have no major surprises and he is clear about the topics. The lectures are definitely helpful and its clear he really knows his stuff.

There is a lot of homework for this class, so make sure you complete it on time, and all of the quizzes/exams are online (including the final). Dr. Longo is one of the best professors at UConn. As an MCB student interested in Genetics, this course was incredible! He was an engaging lecturer who always gave clear expectations on what to expect on the weekly quizzes and the 3 unit exams. He is very caring and respectful as well.

Absolute goat, the review saying he sounds like norm Macdonald is 100% accurate. 3 exams, weekly quizzes, easy homework readings, and extra credit. He is not trying to trick you on anything unlike most departments here (chemistry), so the tests are fairly easy but get harder as semester goes on. The final was very doable just need to study a lot.

Longo is one of the nicest professors. He drops so many things, gives extra credit, and puts some quiz questions on the exams and final. There's so many ways to do well and he's open to meeting whenever before the exams. Every quiz and exam is online lockdown so you can take it whenever you want.

Mostly graded on the 15-page paper about anything in genomics, but it was split up into 5-page chunks that were spaced throughout the semester, making it manageable. Dr. Longo really taught me how to understand genomic papers (and Zotero), so I really appreciate it. I would recommend him for your W requirement in MCB.

Very kind man who wants you to succeed. His exams are difficult but the quizzes help prepare you for them. Third exam is by far the worst. A solid amount of grade buffering through homework, discussion, and honors work. Overall, not the worst course but is be difficult when taking with other science heavy courses. Go over the bolded words in slides

Very passionate professor. Attending lectures are not mandatory but I would HIGHLY recommend you go because there a things he will say that will make things on the slides make more sense. You will need to put time into the course and the quizzes once a week were annoying but they help you learn throughout the semester. Definitely recommend!!!

His grading is very fair, and its easy to do well in this class since he offers generous extra credit. The weekly quizzes are annoying, but useful for staying up to date with course material, and they are good study material for his exams. Overall he is a good professor, id recommend going to lecture, even tho he just goes over the slides he posts.
