pretty fun class, this teacher is very at ease with students and likes to talk. guys seem to be bigger fans of him than girls. easygoing and not very difficult as far as coursework.

Very helpful, understanding, persuasive, and the class is pretty interesting.

Mckinnon is a cool teacher. He has fun teaching and it shows! I love his lectures and he always has something interesting to say ! I recommend him for Eng. 11 :)

He is the best teacher I have ever had. He makes the material understandable. The class isn't easy, but if your willing to work hard, he will reward the effort. Butte is blessed to have him as a teacher. He has honestly changed my life.

He's the type of teacher you wish taught all of your classes. Took it during winter and though it was a lot of films and essays, I wished I had taken it during the semester. Plus, a great musician! "This man has enlarged my mind."

He uses humor to put you at ease,making you more susceptible to the material. He explains exactly what he expects from you. If you have a question he takes the time to explain it to you until you understand & retain it! 6'4 ? Celtic hunk of a man. Yum

A very interesting guy, but watch for his highly emotional use of language and a tendency to lapse into Appeal to Fear and Straw Man fallacies. Don't let him get away with it just because he's fascinating! Think critically!

Yummy! A very sexy Prof, with a sexy vintage Hollwyood appeal. Great at teaching you concepts and probably does a nice job at brainwashing you into thinking America is a hell-hole.

He is the type of instructor you would want to teach you. Only giving out the information that is needed and not more or less. Mark is best Eng instructor I have been with; the easiest man to get along with.

Mark is a brilliant instructor. I always looked forward to going to his class. There was an open and collaborative environment. Controversial historical and contemporary issues were approached in a clear way and analyzed with great intensity and a sense of humor.

Mr McKinnon was one of the best teachers I ever had! He cares more about students learning something, than any test score. For the first time in my life the last day of class grown men gave him a hug and told him that he was the greatest teacher they had ever had. I definately recommend him!

he is the coolest hippie i know. not only does he know a lot about the world and politics but he encourages debates in class and lets the students voice their opinions. his love of movies gives great examples on the logic points that he tries to make. plus he doesnt grade harshly either. the best is the final, he actually picks up his guitar and sings to you. my favorite song was the carmen miranda one, it rocked.

Awesome teacher..and just a great person to talk to. I was scared to take engl 11 since i heard it was going to be a hard class, but Mckinnons papers werent too hard and his class was very interesting. He is definatley my favorite teacher ive had in college so far, and probably a tough one to beat!

He is a really cool guy. He is very straight forward. The class is pretty easy because there is not very much homework. McKinnon is laid back and also very smart. He should run for president!!!

I loved this teacher, and I hate english! Great teacher and person. Helped me though some hard times, even when I wasn't in his class anymore. He really cares about others and is willing to help. If you can take him do it, you will love him!!

I hate English, and I still do hate that subject. But this instructor makes the work fun and the class time fun. Not too much homework to do, yet lots of help from him and the entire class. If you hate English, but must take it, I would definately recommend this proff'. He will make the subject matter worth it.

Mark rocks! I had his class a year ago, and I still feel like the course had an impact on the way I view the world; especially in terms of logic. Very cool teacher, totally a hippie lol. Even sang for us during the final.

Awesome instructor. Unlike his Eng 119 class, he is really picky/strict at eng 2.

Of the all the english classes I have so far, this class was too easy. You might have trouble learning the information he gives you for the first few weeks, however in this class we hardly wrote that many essays. This is the perfect teacher to take for ENGL-11.

Mr. Mckinnon is the best teacher I ever had. Not only was he a great teacher that taught me a lot of useful thinking skills and opened my eyes, but he is a real honest down to earth guy, anyone is lucky if they get to be in the presence of this man. I had him for a winter session class and it was absolutley amazing.

I've only taken his Film as Literature class, but he is one of the funnest teachers you'll ever take. He listens, he obviously loves film and is really informative about it's history and method, and he really wants you to appreciate the art of it all. He's a really nice guy, very open, and although he grades pretty tough, he is willing to help you.

I took mckinnon for english last semester. he actually made an 8 am class interesting and kept us awake. i recommend him to anyone taking an english class, you will learn far more valuable things than how to write a good essay. critical and rational thinking is emphasized. you should skip this class if you're sensitive about your political views.

Great professor. English really isn't my thing; however, this professor is great! Just write your essays and go to class and you'll be fine.

Best English teacher I have ever had. I played sports, so for those atheletes out there looking for a pro sport teacher this is your guy. He was totally understanding of anyones situation and allowed late work as you didn't abuse it. He helped me in my writing ability tremendously. Funny, doesn't support the war but supports the troops.

this is the best course offered at Butte College. The teacher is amazing. I have never been so interested in what I was learning. I think I am much more aware of the world around me and I thank Mark for that! I highly recommend this teacher!

Easy if writing is your strong point, if not then you just have to work a little because he's a reasonable grader. A person who already considers themselves a global thinker will not learn much more than specific names of fallacies because most of the class is spent watching films. Very respectful and fair to students, very enjoyable overall.

Straight out: he's just a high school teacher. He encourages group work and acts like it's a classroom, not an intelligent discussion. Thankfully he's also care-free and doesn't really impose anything. He's not bad, but the environment he creates just seemed like a step back to me. Enroll as an extra, and drop it if first few days are bad.

This guy is a flaming liberal...he has some interesting views. He thinks that 9/11 was a conspiracy perpetrated by the US gov't... I think he smokes weed, seriously. Not to say hes a bad guy though. Personally, I found him to be respectful and considerate when I disagreed with his view points. He is knowledgeable and a good teacher... learned alot.

The best English teacher at Butte College. Mark is smart, caring, and funny. He knows what he's talking about when teaching. His assignments are challenging in a good way, they make you think, they are always explained very well. SERIOUSLY take Mark! Get into his classes asap because they fill up quick!

Mark is a GREAT teacher. He has about five papers, but you have an entire week to finish it. He really helps when needed. He does make some odd comments, but you just need to have a little bit of a personality. We probably only used the book twice which kinda sucked because it was 82 dollars.

Mr. McKinnon is the coolest guy ever. I'm taking his ENG11 this semester and definitely would love to suggest everyone to take it with him. you will have to go visit his office and show your essay dfafts if you are dedicated and willing to get an A. once you show him your draft you are getting way better grade. we all know that right? go for it!

I took Mark for a few English Classes. I took the mandatory ones to transfer and then I took a few just because. He is an amazing teacher and guy. He will help you any way he can to help you understand the topic at hand. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, missing class will hurt your grade. Take his class, you will learn from him.

Mark is a phenomenal instructor. You have a few essays to do at home, and a few in class. Be in class, pay attention, and participate in the discussions and you should have no problems. He is very helpful if you have a problem and is more than willing to work with you as long as you don't take advantage of it. Highly recommend him.

There were definitely fun aspects to this class. I think most people would like it. But Mark's personal likes and hobbies steered the class outside of creative writing and into his own realm. Some people liked it, but it didn't resonate with me like it did with Mark. It made it difficult to be inspired. He is very nice & helpful though.

Mark is definitely one of the more knowledgeable instructors that I've taken a class from at butte; however, he is not an instructor I would recommend to everyone. His lectures, while informative, are often encased in a bunch of off-topic junk. Also, he can sometimes come off like an angry authority figure, which can definitely stifle creativity.

Mark gives you all the tools you'll need to succeed in his class. To succeed in his class, all you really need to do is show up regularly, participate in discussions, and give your best effort on the assigned writings. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class or to stop by his office to discuss any concerns you have; he is always willing to help.

Mark is an amazing teacher. He truley cares for his students. If you communicate with him the reasons why you are unable to turn something in on time he will understand and help you out. He is as real as a teacher can be. I would highly reccomend him and his Creative Writing class for those of you that LOVE to write!

I have taken Mark for English 2,11,and 35 and he is a great teacher. Because of an illness in my family I could not attend the final and Mark really went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed to pass. Mark McKinnon is the most AMAZING teacher I have ever had. He is smart and funny and is clear and precise on the things he wants you to do. We only had about five essays per semester. His teaching methods are mainly lectures, class discussions, and he LOVES talking about things that happen globally -things that students should know about.

Mark is a great teacher! You can tell that he absolutely loves what he does. Be prepared for a lot of writing and sharing. He's a pretty rad dude, ask him to bring his guitar in and play for you, you will be pleasantly surprised! I had no problems with him at all, although some classmates thought his sarcasm was rude. McKinnon is an instructor that is incredibly knowledgeable and cares about his students. He gives great lectures and focuses on things that I think a lot of instructors glaze over. He is really into the material he teaches and a fun person to be around. He is also very keen and knowledgeable about film which is grand for a film student like myself.

Mark was an excellent teacher. He was very easy to get along with, and always available to help. He seems angry at first, but as you get to know him, you'll find he's SUPER nice. Very creative, and knowledgable about writing just about anything, and has a great singing voice. I REALLY appreciate teachers like Mark. Take this class.

Mark is very helpful and understanding of his students. I have taken 2 of his classes and he always seems to go above and beyond t not only teach the subject matter but important life lessons along the way. He makes it very clear that he is there when you need help. Be prepared to write a lot but the topics are usually interesting so it is not hard

Honestly he wasn't bad at all. If you miss class he will notice and will let you know when he returns papers to you. He still has his hippie personality which is very fun. He is very lay back and chill. Most conversations were off topic but entertaining. I missed a lot of class to I passed with a C. Good Luck

Even though I didn't get the grade I wanted, that was my fault, not his. He is chill, laid-back and super nice. TRULY wants everyone to succeed. He doesn't use the typical points system, but goes out of his way to give you every chance to get the best grade possible. For an Eng2 class, make sure you get him, even if you have wait an extra semester.

Few instructors are as well rounded as he is. Inspiring to every student whether or not you even enjoy English classes. No matter what your English level he will help you succeed as long as you are willing to make an effort. Many generations of Butte College students remember how much they loved his classes.

Great teacher, take his class if you can. Film had 3 books to read that you had to write on and he showed a lot of great films. The work load is tough because of all the writing and reading but I'm lazy and it was doable

Memorization is not a requisite component, nor does McKinnon ever play tricks on students by holding them responsible for material that has not been introduced, discussed and reviewed during class time. increases students sense of security in the classroom, & preparation to take the next sequential step in the curriculum and life. An amazing teacher, he is passionate of what he does. Makes the class interesting, will clarify things if needed. Has class discussions which are awesome because he tries to get everyone involved. On occasions you watch some fantastic movies but do an essay on it. The class was fairly easy and extremely helpful.

Classes are fluid and he seems to adjust classes to focus on things students are having difficulty with. He absolutely cares about all students and their success not only in his class but life in general. Take his class!!!

Gives wrap around stories but their always relevant to what's going on in class. You have to read in this class, but it's simple. Definitely sad he won't be here next year

Amazing professor

Took Mark's course over 10 years ago. His class really inspired me to reach for my goals. I've achieved a MBA degree and loving career. I was just thinking about people that contributed towards my achievements and thought of Mark. Take him for the knowledge, inspiration, and investment.
