His labs are very easy. Tests are a little hard, you have to study, but an A is possible.
Seems like a nice guy, lectures are pretty interesting and so are the labs. The tests are kinda hard, but the labs are easy. Just study whatever he hints might be essay questions and you'll do fine.
Do not take this man for classes....EVER! Not only is his grading criteria unjust, but he belittles his students' abilities and undermines their self-worth. Trying to speak to him about anything pertinent will only result in condescending beration.
He is ok. He leactures with a power point in which he just reads off. It is very boring to listen to. His tests are mult. choice and are kinda hard, but if you do his practice exams on blackboard you should be fine.
He does basically rely on his overhead notes a little much but he usually knows what he is talking about. There are those occasional questions in which he has no idea of the answer (and you wonder how on earth those students even come up with those ?
He just reads of the power point slides, his tests are very inconsistant and he is not very helpful. Can be pretty rude. Find a different teacher.
his class is totally inconsistent... he reads off of powerpoints and is too cocky to sit down with you and help you. his tests are half practice tests and then.... totally random crap. take a different teacher.
His tests are absolutely killers, and you don't have any quizzes or anything to save you if you don't do well on them. He can be a pretty funny guy, which drastically helps what would otherwise be a pretty boring intro class. A little intimidating.

The only way you would think he is nice, is if you had never had a conversation w/him. He is arrogant and extremely unhelpful. And his grading of essays is extremely ambiguous. If you dont have to take this class, youre lucky.
MAN, DO NOT take this dude for 121. Take anyone else. Unfornatly we have no other choice for 235. I think I might take it in the BMS department. This guy gets two thumbs down from me
I wouldn't recomend him for this class unless you really like to study. I rarely studied and got a C so I guess it's not THAT hard, but VERY boring lectures. I fell asleep almost every lecture.
OMG this is the worst professor i have ever had. The tests were ungodly hard and not even worth my time. There is nothing other than tests for your grade so pray to the gods for help! I mean really really pray.
He is a nice guy. A little too liberal, but its okay. The tests are easy just study the sample exams and your notes and you will get at least a B. Plus he drops your lowest test score so that helps! He obviously has a passion for Biology and it is evident by the way he lectures his class.

His genetics class is tough, but passable if you have the right strategy. Tests are difficult, but all material comes from the powerpoint slides. Showing up for lecture and espcially the reviews is important. He welcomes questions but trys to intimidate people who aren't catching on too quickly.
Tests come straight from the Powerpoints off of Blackboard, but I recommend going to lectures because he adds a lot more information. I didn't have to open the book at all and have managed a high B or low A in the class. Points from lab are added to the lecture grade.
One word; okay three: BORING, BORING, BORING!!! He may be interested in the subject, but he sure doesn't know how to BE interesting! He plays mean evil tricks on his tests. Don't read the book, it does no good, just figure out how to play his game. Study the practice tests for hours to succeed!!
He is a good teacher and you dont need your book if you go to lecture. He can be a real **** sometimes and do not try to leave class while he is lecturing because he will call you out and make you feel like crap in front of the whole class. His tests are easy if you study the practice exams.

He's quite rude.
hes O.K.
Just study the practice exams and you will do ok on the tests. He can be a total jerk at times, especially if you leave class early (obsessed with his 1/2 point per day attendance) Boring class, print off the powerpoints and the class is fine, it helps that lab points are added to this class.
Ok, so he's strict about attendance--- hello, you're paying for an education, why not go to class and get it?! He is very interested in the success of his students both in his clas and beyond. I talked to him one time about grad school and he was more interested and helpful than my advisor!
OK I gave this guy a BAD rating for BIO 121, but in BIO 235 he's not that bad. It's not like you have a choice, if your a BIO major your taking his genetics class. Just study your *** off and you will get your A. Oh, take his lab section, it REALLY helped me out.
This class sucked...ok it wasn't that bad but you have to study you ass off to pass the test. He can be a jerk sometimes.
This class is not that bad. He does get kinda moody sometimes but he is a very good prof and likes to make sure his students understand the material. I am going to get a B and I didnt even buy the book. As far as im concerned thats not too bad.
Good class. Be on time or the entire class gets lectured on being late. Reccomend reading the chapters before class, makes it so much easier to understand what he's saying. Knows a lot about genetics and is excited to teach it.
Study the lecture notes carefully and if you have questions he is always willing to help. He wants students to learn and really knows the material. Show up for class on time!
good class...he can be kind of a jerk but he means well.
Really, really hard class. Be prepared to study a lot. But as long as you do, you'll be fine.
Good teacher but is a real jerk.
Not a very good teacher. Find someone else if you can.
He reads straight off the power points but if you don't go to class he will hold a grudge against you. His test are descent but he doesn't like to give A's. And to really sum it up he is the biggest unprofessional **** of a professor that I have ever had.
Horrible Teacher! He belittles students and will also harrass you and generally act unprofessional. A very severe complaint was made against him at American River Coll in Sacramento, CA (maybe that's why he left...). Beware of this lech!
One of the most hateful people I have ever come across. Completely unprofessional in and out of class. I got an A in the class.
He was a horrible teacher. I hated going to his classes. I loved the lab portion because he didnt teach it. He is very rude to his students. I would NOT take this professor if you can help it!!!!
He is a hard teacher. He really only likes the talkers in class and hates it when people are talking and if a cell phone goes off. He puts all powerpoints on blackboard, so you really dont have to go. The lectures are kind a boring because he just talks the entire time. His tests are really hard and you have to read the book to understand questions
OK,this guy gets a lot of bad remarks here. But its not that bad. He can get cranky if you talk in class, come late, leave early or let your phone ring. But... extra credit for attendence! Notes are on blackbord! Sample tests! Final not that bad! Lab points added! My advise: respect him, read the sections before class and show up will get you an A.
People tend to focus on Dr. Mac's disposition, and frankly he can be rude sometimes. However, I think it needs to be noted he is a mediocre professor. His lectures are unclear and he tends to explain things in complex terms you won't understand. He'll help if he's happy. He provides great study tools, but expect to work for your grade nonetheless.
He spends 80% of his time either ragging about us not reading, or not showing up for class which makes you not show up for class ARGHH!
He comes off as nice at first but then turns into a jerk. He has favorites and gets mad at the littlest things, for instance, coughing in class. The information is pretty hard and it is hard to follow. Don't take this class if you dont have to
Very moody--jolly when he's in a good mood, but it doesn't happen that often. Attendance not mandatory, but homework is given at random times and you MUST be in class on time to be able to complete it. He actually embosses so you can't get it later. Otherwise, typical college professor.
Dr. Mac isnt all that bad. Yeah, he gets mad if someone is talking during lecture, but he should! You are there to learn, not chat. Anyways. His class is alright... you cant really just go off the notes for tests tho, the practices tests are REALLY close to what the test covers. If you put in the work you'll get an A.
He is really confusing sometimes.
This guy is an idoit! He is very rude and did I mention an idoit! Bio majors have to have this class so just get through it, and keep your head down, and try not to cough! (He doesn't like it!)
He is so mean, I absolutly was amazing at biology and I loved it, but I can hardly stand biology in his class. And biology is my major.
He couldn't care less about his students' education, let alone if they actually learn anything. He takes delight in his students' frustration and humiliation (he sat there pointing at me and making fun of me in front of the teaching assistant during a test) and has no sense of professionalism whatsoever. Tests are ridiculous. AVOID!!!
He uses power points only, so it's pretty much pointless to come to class except for the .24 bonus point you get each time you go. I studied really hard and only got C's or lower. I'd avoid if I were you. take someone else if you can.

I am an all A student. The last time I got a B was my freshman year of high school, and there is no way possible i could get an A in this class. Tests are absolutely uncomprehensible. He gives you 400 questions that are impossible to find the answers to, and picks 50 of them for the test. Then he won't help you with the questions so you can't study
he talks on and on and on
DON'T JUST READ LECTURE NOTES OR YOU'LL FAIL THE TESTS! Even if you attend class every day you'll fail the test! They're very detailed & require large amounts of studying. It's nice he gives testbank questions but there's so many it's hard to study. I'm sure he's a nice guy outside of class, but the problem is, you're in his class!
Don't take for any class. If your apart of a Greek organization, don't ever wear letters or he will assume you cheat on all of his tests. He will punish the entire class for one person being apart of a social Greek organization by making tests entirely too hard and grading the short answer sections to make them impossible to earn credit for. AVOI
He gets a bad rap, but I found him a good prof. for genetics. He takes a lot of criticism, mostly because he does actually expect people to study. A lot of people expect to breeze through a degree.
Seems unfriendly at first. You have to spend a couple weeks in class to get him. He can be very nice, but runs hot and cold. Sometimes seems condescending-no handholding. Had him for lab-divided us into groups for experiments & Each group presented results at end of class, which isn't helpful for practical. Weekly quizzes and hw, somewhat helpful.
Don't take him for 1408. For some reason he was set to teach a 1408 (non-science major) class and it has been a disaster. He taught us the 1406 materials with 1406 PPTs, he didn't have 1408 book so he couldn't tell us what to study for the tests. Our tests were the same tests he gave for his 1406 people. No extra credit except from attendance.
Ok, Dr McKnight should change his name to Dr. McNutt! He is bipolar and about as useless as they come. Our class got the dean involved on some issues we were having. He is not a good teacher. He may be smart but that doesn't make him a teacher. Had to ask my lecture teacher for help so that I could pass his lab. I don't recommend him at all!
Dr. McKnight's teaching style is quick and to the point. You need to pay attention in class and comprehend the slides. Before tests he gives you a study guide or practice test which reallyyyy help out. I would definitely recommend him to someone else. Just don't be lazy, keep up and you'll be just fine.
Crazy professor! He has a bad temper and even through a pen across the room at a student! Stay clear of this guy. He doesn't know have to teach either.
He is a very good professor. Although his tests can be challenging, but he provides you with study guides and practice exams. If you are a lazy person DO NOT come to this class, because you wont pass. for those who are very lazy to even open their books: You WILL NOT succeed in your career like this.
I pulled out an A in this class but it is because I taught myself. Dr. Mac really knows the info, however, he talks as if his students have a PhD in biology as well. I found that he did not know how to explain concepts clearly. I am now in A&P and there were concepts I should have learned in this class and didn't. Take someone else.
horrible professor, whatever you do DO NOT TAKE. This guy doesnt let you know anything of what to expect on quizzes, istnt helpful at all answering questions, and is very strict. even studying i will be lucky to pass with a low C
Dr. Mac was very unclear about what was to be expected on his exams, and was even more unhelpful when it came to answering questions. I would pick someone else if I were you.
Dr. Mac is not an easy professor, but he is a fair one no doubt. I had him for my lab only, but none the less loved him. He cracks jokes with the students and helps out when it is needed, but won't just give away answers like some students seem to expect... I quite enjoyed Prof Mac! He really knows his stuff.
Very hard test,50 m/c and a page of short answers,Lectures are alright but the class requires a lot of outside study.Dr.Mac is very passionate about certain areas and goes into depth on the tests.Luckily I had a good lab teacher, but I barely managed to get a B in this class.
Mcknight really gets a bad rep around Collin but hes not bad at all.He wants his students to do well and always asks to see if anyone has questions. He cracks jokes and is never angry. His reviews basically tell you what will on the test but make sure to study hard to actually understand. Offers extra credit and drops the lowest test.
Good professor but hard tests. Study guides helpful-lets you know what is expected. Wants students to think/know it, not just regurgitate a bunch of facts. Maybe some don't like that but that foundation was helpful for my other science classes. Regular attendance counts at end-that extra credit can bump you to next grade up.Drops lowest test grade.
I really enjoyed this class. In order to get a good grade you have to really understand the power points and read a little bit out of the book. Dr Mac is highly passionate about the material, which makes the class interesting.
He makes biology even harder. Nothing makes sense in his class. you have to teach yourself. plus he likes to challenge his students so expect the hardest exams ever.
Dr. Mac is very smart, but not a good professor. You basically have to teach yourself. If you READ the chapters & review the power-points, you should be ok. "Mastering Biology" & other extra credit assignments help. If bio isn't your subject DONT TAKE HIM
Awful. Nothing makes sense. Stay away from his class if u dont want ur gpa to drop
Dr Mac is a great biologist. Depending on his mood, though, he can either be a great teacher or not so much. He does have a temper, yet he is brave enough to apologise the next time. The key is keep reading the chapters & visit Professor Garica's videosthe before the next lab. You really have to study at least 9 hours a week for this class and lab!
He is extremely rude to female students. The quizzes before each lab have questions from his lecture. He talks so much before the lab that we panic when it's time to get out the beakers and pipettes. He does have a passion for biology so he knows his stuff just needs to learn how to apply it professionally.
Honestly, He is the WORSE teacher I have ever had! Had to retake Bio 1406 because he was unable to help me. I would ask questions and he would look at me like "really?!". UGH he's the absolutely the worse. and even if you finished your lab he'd make you stay there. "guys you signed up to be in this class for 3 hours, so you must stay" -_-
If you show to class, study, and pay attention you will be fine. It's the typical college student that will hate this class because you actually have to learn and work for it. He has the best stories and is really amusing. He answers questions clearly and is very helpful. Put your big girl and boy pants on for this class and stop complaining.
This professor is not great with clarity or communication. The material that is covered in lecture does not prepare you for the tests whatsoever. There are no daily or quiz grades given to help you with your average. Five tests and that's it.
Dr. McKnight loves evolution and is a staunch atheist. He is a top notch zoologist, and can teach the material. His lectures are very thorough and also entertaining. His tests are very challenging, but he is a fair grader. If you pay attention in his lectures, take notes, and study the material you will succeed.
Very rude and unwilling to help students
Only grades are 5 exams very difficult but mostly from the test bank available online for the textbook this does not mean it is easy, avoid if possible!!
He goes over every test and gives all answers, write down every question and answer for tests 1-5 because the final comprehensive is ALL RECYCLED questions! i did it.
He's probably the worst professor I have ever taken. He's incredibly rude and to female students especially. He'll make you stay the full 3 hours of lab. Honestly didn't feel I could go to him for anything because if you ask him a question he'll bring you down and make you feel dumb. VERY disrespectful to students. Never had a professor this bad.
Very rude knows his material but not willing to help you understand it.
