What Students Say
“McQueen will offer you a red pill and a blue pill; If you chose to drop the class, then, you've accepted the blue pill- you will continue on and remember nothing; If you accept the red pill, then, you will travel down a rabbit hole that you didn't know existed inside of your mind- you will look up and realize 'Hey”

likes to humiliate students; has an aide grade students' papers; makes no sense!

Make sure you come to class with a dictionary because he constantly bothers students with lame questions about the meaning of words (e.g., What is art?).

For those that have a true desire to learn, you will find McQueen very satisfying. He will force you to a higher level of literary analysis and criticism.
Anyone who doesn't like Mr. McQueen, most likely is not smart enough to take a difficult class. He is a difficult & eccentric teacher, who unlike many others actually forces you to learn. His approach to teaching English draws upon many other subjects.
Teacher who loves humiliating his student!!!
He is a very difficult teacher but he makes you think for yourself. As long as you have no grammatical errors and show improvements in your essay, you should do fine. Lots of work. Ask for help.
I dropped his class not because it was too difficult (his essays were a piece of cake), but because I just couldn't imagine myself listening to such a pompous, pedantic geezer spewing out such narrow-minded, narcissistic drivel for an entire semester.
I had a hard time concentrating on my work with this sexy professor in front of class each and every day. He asked what is art. HE is art. Here's a kiss.
dont be afraid to speak out even if he disses u...just expect him to diss u cuz he will....but after a while, u get used to it, and the class is pretty funny in the end. He is a bit narrowminded but it's funny watching him act up. he's super easy.
Very hard to please, but we read some really good things -- he has very good taste in reading assignments, turned me on to some great books
excellentteacher. Leads students by questioning.
He WILL make you voice your opinion, and you can NEVER say "I don't know" when he asks you something! Trust me though, get past the first couple weeks and your good, he puts on a big act of being a bad guy, but is real cool once you get to know
Professor McQueen is an easy teacher as long as you show up and and write more than he requires. If you want to improve your grammar, he is not the teacher to take, he will improve your thought processes and idea stimulation.
Terrible professor! He offers glib interpretations of insipid works of literature. I feel bad for those who go out into the world thinking that they've been "enlightened" by his silly ideas. His class actually retards thinking. Take it only for
McQueen is a weird dude. Kind of hard to nail down... **** ****? ****? Jaded "wish-I-was-there" 60's/70's historian who humiliates students to remind them that current values are useless? I did fine in his class, because I can wr
Worst English Teacher Ever! U have no books just a bunch of handouts! He gives at least 13 essays in just one semester! No grammer is taught. He's weird! Puts everyone on the spot, will yell at u 'till answer his bogus questions? Can last u to 15min o
Weird Guy.... Fair to generous on grading. Dont worry if you take this class. Plastic report covers really scores extra points with this guy.
For those of you going to English 1C: LOTS OF READING. You have to read everything. You gotta keep up with it. If you're retarded, you will hate this guy because he will make fun of you. But he really is a good teacher. Insightful, intelligent, funny.

either you like him or hate him. can be really nice or really mean...but mean as in he won't let you get off easily by saying "i don't know." now that i think about it, a lot of work. but he's a great prof...learned a lot..grades fairly, just w

I would not reccomend Mr. McQueen for anyone seeking an easy A. His class is not for the meek. He is challenging, insightful, and forces his students to think under pressure. He is also very entertaining. Not for the meek...
enjoyed his class greatly. if you dont like to be called on then dont take his class. he kept lectures entertaining. easy class. got an A.

A teacher who don't know how to teach. Cannot learn much from him.

Great communicator, makes you think. LOTS of writing, but gets you involved in class. Encourages ideas and his classes are not boring at all. Be prepared to get in a debate every class period. Makes his ponts and expects you to hold up to yours.
Brilliant professor. You really learn a lot, but there is also a lot of reading.
You have to work really hard in his class, but he is a very good teacher. You definitely learn a lot from him. Very good teacher.
Over all this he does get everyone envloved and there is alot of writing but takes late home work and is always behinde on grading and gets upset very easly.
He is a very bad teacher. Will humiliate you and make you look and feel dumb. He asks the most stupid questions and no matter what you say you're wrong and it's not the answer he wants. No books, just handouts and nothing but essay writting.
This teacher really cares about what he can offer his students, and grateful for what he can learn from them. He gives you every opportunity to help yourself. Hr truly loves literature, but as a child always willing to see a new perspective.
Don't take him.
Don't take this class if you already have a low level of self esteem, he will take every ounce you have. He gets his kicks by making students feel like they are worthless. He is not helpful and it is very apparent he has no passion for teaching.
First day of class,no syllabus. Handouts. Goes in order of row to ask each student a ques. When one student interupted he pick on him and called the student a smart ass, McQueen got hostile and started to pick on him.Only give 1 A, couple B's.
This teacher is so bad, that I'm surprised he's still teaching. He should've been fired a long time ago. Don't ever take him.
it's true that's he's not the friendliest professor, and he will humiliate u in front of the class if he thinks that ur purposely playing dumb with him, but nontheless, i think he's one of the best professors... class is fun and he's very helpful
Mr. McQueen is a great teacher and person; those who left his class couldn't handle his boldness and knowledge. He is intelligent and funny; he gets people to participate and motivate. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Great teacher. You may not like him at first, but please hang in there and you will. He will open your eyes to things you know and have ignored and you will go Waoh. He will teach you that everything is something else. He gives 'A' but you have to work
I would say that if he made you cry it is because you deserved it. His way of teaching is critical thinking. McQueen's class is not intended to be another one of those classes where you just take up a seat. He is one of the best pofs. @ pcc.
Community college is meant to prepare you for upper level work and the real world. Prof. McQueen's class is also geared that way to benefit you in the long run. Just like in life, if you want a good grade then always show up and do more than you're asked.
He will make you expand your mind. His teachings help you grasp concepts about problems that humanity have entertained for centuries. His class is fun and interesting. An excellent teacher!!! Take him, you will learn a lot.
His class is pretty easy, you could always turn your paper in late without being deducted points, he gives you more than enough time to comple an assignment. He could be a jerk sometimes, but that's because he wants you to think. He is a good teacher that knows his stuff.
Not for the faint! I love this teacher. He embraces a lefist/leberal side of teaching. Sure you write quite a lot of essays, but I mean come on this is college! He inspires everyone to think and live OUTSIDE of the BOX!!!
He really pushes you -- he is demanding and often hard for slow students to follow -- he doesn't "suffer fools gladly" -- but your writing will get better.
This class has a lot of reading with 2 papers due each week - Note: don't be deceived by the "Journal" labeling that they are given! He isn't very clear and if he pounces on you, be prepared to debate with him.
I had McQueen back in like 1994 I think. He's very confrontational but he indeed makes you think. I went on to major in English at UCLA thanks to him. Easily one of the best professors I've ever had.
Would never take this professor again...He has assignments which are labeled "journals". Don't be fooled they're 2 page essays with 2 due each week. Beware about his "pouncing". If he asks you a question he does not relent! Picks on students embarrassing them!
This dude is a dickhead, I was forced to take Donalson. DO NOT take him.
Great Prof. There is lots of reading but it all ties in to the class well. I learned so much and Prof. treated students like the adults they are supposed to be. You can't go wrong taking a class from Prof. McQueen. He is the greatest!
good class. learnt alot. great teacher, the best. take this class you will be better for it
He chooses interesting texts and analyzes them in depth with the class. Students are free to explore any theme that interests them when they write their essays. He's not very organized, but he improvises nicely. Participate...or he'll make you.
He may seem like a real tough guy but he is really one of the best English professors around campus. He's got real interesting stories and engaging lectures. All around great and unforgettable! :)
He's hilarious!seems clueless, don't take his comments personally.even tho there's a fair amount of work-it's enough to help you improve.I got C's in the beginning but i listened to his advice and started to improve. make a sincere effort and you'll get the higher grade-I ended up with an A!
The journals that he assigns must be either very long, or very good for excellents. If he ask you a question, you better answer it or he will keep buggin you. Overall if you do the journals youll pass. He is also very dislexic.
Dont get on his bad side, u will pay for it with ur grade. If ur a Christian, dont take his class or u will get pissed off every lecture. otherwise, do the assigned readings on time and know it inside out, u will be tested on passages from the stories u read. dont fall behind and ull be fine.
The only way you will be embarassed is if you DON'T do the reading. Come on people its college!! Class time is devoted to analyzing and discussing the stories significance. As long as you read and put effort into your journals I'm sure you will be fine. Lazyness=looking dumb in class.
I think he does a great job in making the class think deeper than we would normally. His choice of reading assignment has been both interesting and challenging. I have really enjoyed his class.
His lectures are never boring because he always has some anecdote about his experiences as an English teacher. I loved the selection of poetry and fiction in 1B. Do the reading and you'll be fine.
He is unorganized(often runs out of class to fetch stuff)but very interesting nonetheless.Easy to approach.Grading isn't hard. The journals do NOT have to be 2 pages;just insightful.I got excellents with one page handwritten.Overall easy and he's a funny guy.O, he's also clumsy-it's fun to watch.
He's like a big baby, but in a funny way, he's always forgetting stuff, and he has odd habits, like the positions of his podium, and excessive talking aobut his coffee cup. Overall, I am not sure I could have had a better professor to teach a philosophy class, he is one of the reason I want to become a professor
hilarious teacher, very insightful. always willing to give you a helpful word of advice. he likes to argue for science and against christianity. make sure you write your arguments back on paper. enjoyable class as long as you study hard.
He's one of the best! Very funny and insightful...Don't be afraid, just give honest answers and put some thought into them.
He is GREAT! Wonderful professor! If you are willing to think and listen to what he says, you will be fine. Answer his questions and do not take the comments personally. THINK! and Answer! His readings are really interesting. I enjoyed his class greatly! If you cant make journals good make them long...Take notes, it really helpts! Good Luck!
Mcqueen was a great treacher! Really understanding and always willing to help when needed.Midterm was easy and so was the final. Just read the stories and do the papers (there was 2)! easy class. got an A
This class is what you make it if you do all of the readings and keep up with the journals you will be fine. He likes to challenge you in the discussions whatever you do do not feel intimidated when he comes up to you just think before you give the answer and be confident with your answer and you will be fine.
hmmmuzzzzm, with a ball of spit on his lip while he lectures, this dinosour of a man understands humans and their subjective phenomenology and does the best job teaching us to understand life for what it can be. i find myself putting meaning to the thing he taught me years ago into play now "learn how to not be yourself" etc.

He fun, intresting and completely honest, He's an easy teacher, but have to comment in his class though! Love to pick on you!
Best english class ive ever taken. I dont care how difficult he is anymore, his classes are never boring. his essay topics are challenging like solving a puzzle, ironically he gives a metaphor puzzle. concerned about grades? 1/2 of the points are biweekly journals & then 3 essays. journals are like practice essay so you cant mess up the re
Do not take his class. He is a monster. At the begining he was very kind but later he showed his real face.During the first week of the class he told "the only grade that you can get is C." He looked at the students as a loosers. He thinks he is big guy from USLA and others are in low stage than he is. Never take his class, the higher grade is C.
Do not put yourself in a trouble.
Best teacher I've taken. His class is very interesting and makes you think critically. Lectures, readings, and essays are on religion and philosophy. This class broadened my perspective of life; never thought I'd be inspired to. If you want an easy A don't take it. You have around 12 essays(10 two-pagers, 2 six-pagers)Highly reccommended
This guy's a nut! But in a good way! He's really into teaching you to love language. So much of what poetry is is clearer to me now. Keep up with the journals and do the papers and you should be fine. Don't try to B.S. him do the work or he'll know and grade you accordingly!
You can not learn anything during his class. Do not take it. It was boring

Bottom line is if you're not up to the challenge you shouldn't take this guy. However, if you don't fear a teacher that actually challenges you to think than this is the best english teacher that I can recommend. Yeah there are a lot of essays but people quit crying about it and just do it.
LOTS OF WORK!He's totally frazzled & nutty, but good! He's really into literature & knows the course material inside out.He WILL challenge u & push u to critically analyze things,so if u shy away fr.talkin in class, dont take him.HE WILL PICK ON U!ALL OF U!He's tough to like, but I appreciate him for what he is & the course was.dont take 6wk courses!
he is awsome. If you really want to challenge yourself take this class. You willnever read another book or poem the same. Lots of writing but mostly on material already covered in class.
I really enjoyed his class.
I Hate English.. My English 1a class sucked... but now..my 1B class is ma favourite! McQueen rocks.. the class is the best ever... time goes by so quickly..but if your scared of talking stay away and cry at home, cos if you take his class your gonna cry.
Prof McQueen is possibly the best english teacher I have had at PCC by far. Not only does he make you think, but he's a fair grader and extremely witty. Definatly take this man if you have the chance. Make sure you do the journals.
Best class and best prof at PCC. If you dont wanna work take somone else. Hes the kind'o prof whose class you'll use for the rest of you career. funny, smart and critical of work and thought. He makes you want to do well. Keep up with the journals and the essays! Great class
Do your work and maybe you'll pass. He 's not at all easy. He'll make you read alot!!! He also likes to make students look stupid in front of all the class. Doesn't except wrong answers and I dont knows.
He cares about the students education and wants us to do well in life. He motivates you to learn and make something for yourself.
i'm taking his Engl 1A, he gives alot of handouts to read, but they are not easy to understand such as philosophy, the myth of sisyphus, religion..U have to write essay every week and 2 major papers/sem. U can write essay at home but i dont think it's easy to write if you dont understand the handouts, he never cares about the attendant or taking rol
he makes u think things u've never thought! he really makes u work but it's u come away having real knowledge. he's a little bit of a hardass, but he's super cool. really smart! goes off on interesting tangents sometimes but he's definitely my fave prof! this is my 2nd class with him. i deliberately made my schedule work around his class. he rocks.
Okay, this guy does make you read a lot but the journals every week are easy. It's only two pages per journal. Sounds like a lot but it helps and you can copy and paste for major papers. I have had him for 1A, 1B, and 1C. Take him all the way through and keep all your papers. He also stops taking attendance after the first few weeks. Easy A!
Mr. McQueen may come off as mean at first, but he's a really fantastic professor that makes students THINK, which is really what education should be. The way he pushes us to read "between the lines" and truly get into the literature was amazing. The journals and essay really need critical thinking, which is healthy.

Best English teacher I ever had! He taught me so much on how to write different kinds of papers. He taught me how to write papers with the information from handouts. I learn a lot from his class discussions. How r u guys gonna finish college if u can't even finish his class? How r u gonna learn 2 write if u don't write? It wasn't hard. Just show up
he is very strict in class, but his teaching method is very helpful... i'm satisfied this class..
Intimadating at first, will scare students out of the class & make some cry, but once they leave he is AMAZING. He makes you THINK like no other. You do not particiapte he calls on you, if you don't like to talk in class then he is not for you.. He's a trip & an experience. Highly reccommended. You have to WORK HARD & THINK. Take him, he's worth it
I loved this guy.He is funny just to watch and listen to. I want to teach, and if I can have a classroom like his then I will be satisfied. All he expects from you is effort and honest thought, if you give that you will get an A. He does get in bad moods at times, but it is almost comical. It's like talking to a grumpy person who just woke up.
he's cool and funny. his class seems easy, but no it's not! u will only get an A or a B, if and only if ur willing to spend ur times more than 3 days writing an essay (at least 3-4 pages)...overall u ll def. learn a lot
think & write are the only 2 things that u need to do in this class. expect a min of 4 pages of journals each week. don't procrastinate or u'll burn out near the final. if he says write 5 pages, write 7 or more. don't take his class if u have low self-esteem. the more u write, the more he'll "love" u even if he doesn't agree with wat u say.
He is not a bad professor but his class is not easy at all. I liked his lectures and he is very knowledgeble. However, he gives a lot of reading, and a lot of writing too! I wrote 29 journals and 2 10-page papers and 1 5-page evaluation during the spring. You will read about 30-35 short story (10 pages long average) and 45 poems! He's gonna test u!
I'm at Northridge now and let me tell you that the lessons learned in McQueen's are invaluable. He polished my writing and gave me or should I say forced me to have the courage to speak my mind in any class. When he told me I was a gifted writer it truly motivated me because he's the best teacher out there. He makes you think. I'd totally marry him!
Truly passionate about poetry and what he teaches. A lot of the time I was admittedly bored out of my mind during the lectures but his enthusiasm for what he teaches is appreciable. He's also a very easy A; if you make any effort at all and do well on the paper assignments, which isn't hard at all, then you'll do fine.
Great professor. I hated poetry before his class, but he really helped me appreciate and enjoy it. I wish I could have taken more of his classes.
avoid this instructor, especially if english is your second language
If you put in decent effort to use your brain, there is no way you will do poorly. It's only boring for the brain-dead, the lazy and others of similar kind. McQueen is one very engaging professor and is very welcoming towards those who are willing to learn and/or contribute, as any good professor should be.
He bullies the weak and fear the strong sometimes. He is not really helpful to improve your English, but attendence is not very inportant for him.It is also hard to get grade over C, but if you just think about passing this class that will be the good choice.
his class was fun. He told really good stories about his life and the 60's. but his final was the worst thing that i have ever taken. he passed the test to half the class and ran out, left to make more copies, so half the class totally cheated while he was gone. while the rest of us just sat there pissed at him. it wasn't fair at all.
He is awesome. Mc-Queen will make you use your brain to levels you didnt even know were possible. If you are a hard worker and not a slack-off you WILL pass the class. Period. He notices the people who actually care about education and whom want to achieve much. Uses the text book all the time as well. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
He's an awesome professor. The ones that don't like him are the ones that are closed minded. He really opened my eyes to a lot of things in the world. He's just simply COOL! Do your journals, readings and you'll be fine.
Professor Mc Queen is by far one of the best out there! He really cares about his students and hopes we all achieve "aha-moments" in his class. Challenge yourself and take at least one of his classes...
i think he's a great professor; he may seem intimidating at first but he is really trying to help us see that we can do something great with ourselves...class is divided into short stories and poetry-2 essays and 2 weekly journal entries and two tests-tests are EASY...
If you like to engage in discussions within an welcoming forum, this professor will happily challenge you. Personally I like his style because I'd like to debate about the material I read rather than have it reiterated through lectures. If you don't like to think and/or debate... you'll have to pass.
He is a easy grader and is very helpful(if needed). One thing I must point out is that he assigns journals once a week. Make sure you are on top of your journals otherwise you will burn towards the end of the semester.
Great teacher but you have to pay a lot of attention just to keep up with him. He's helpful with questions and is a nice guy. If you like writing a lot I would recommend taking him because that's all you do throughout the semester. He tends to pick on everyone in class so always make sure you have an answer!
great professor ..makes you think..three essays on meaning, truth, and reality...do journal entries...essays at least 7 pages each
Prof. McQueen was one of the few English teachers I've had who pushed me to do my best. I have always been able to skate by in English classes, getting an A with little effort. He realized this and pushed me, so that I would learn to write better and get something out of the class. I'm glad I took this class. You will have to work hard though.
the worst teacher ever. gose over the same thing. if you dont have the same way thinking then ur wrong. when he talks u feel attacted. find another teacher if u can. 3 essays but he has a special way which doesnt make sense.
Wow where do i start with this man..ok so he definetly has an interesting class theme going on, but his class lectures are soo boringgggg!! all he did would be going around the room and picking one person to ridicule in front of the whole class, I enjoyed some of the topics we covered, but his so called socratic way of teaching has got to be stoped
Excellent professor! If your intrested in philosophy or just open minded discussions and reading then this is the professor for you. Will challenge you and expects participation in class so dnt think you can just sit there all quiet. Papers were about Buddhism & Christianity, Existentialism, Conditioning, Reality and other intresting topics.
Here is the truth about him...Any1 who gave this guy a smiley face liked him because they are weak, used to being dominated and ridiculed and like it. Even if u r one of the smart people, he at some point will pick on u and get angry. There are plenty of great professors at PCC who are not complete jerks. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING HIS CLASSES!
I took his class & dropped it just before midterms. He talked a lot of gibberish about existentialism and some damn "plastic castle." I would write the papers the night before and receive a "B" grade. I knew they were crap with no thought put into them. I could have passed his class with flying colors, but I did myself the favor and left.
Mr. Mcqueen is one of the best English professors I have ever had and is the reason why I fell in love with short stories and poems and eventually went to USC Film School. Today, I am a successful filmmaker and work for a major television network. Thanks Mr. Mcqueen for everything. Gregory E.
I love Mr. McQueen, he can be intimidated at the beginning but then you will see that he really cares about his students and he will help you to get a good grade. He is a sweetheart and he is hot, Love him.
I love this guy! He is seriously the best English professor. I learned a lot from him. He is brutally honest, (which I love), and he is asbolutely hilarious. His grading isn't too tough. If you have a valid point and tried your best, B. I loved his class, I'd take it again!
Mr. McQueen is hands-down the best teacher out there. His class might seem intimidating, but if you hang in there and do each one of your journals, plus write really long essays(like 10pgs) for all 3 of them. You'll get an A, or you'll fail horribly. Here's to you Mr.McQueen.
I took McQueen's class almost eight years ago after dropping out of UC Berkeley. I learned how to write a 5 paragraph essay in his class. I can't thank him enough for paying attention to what I wrote and giving me critical feedback.
Heres the deal. McQueen tries to get you to think. Sometimes it seems as if he talks gibberish-its actually quite inspiring and soulful. Theres a lot of work, but he is training you to write a good paper. Sometimes I go home and I hate him, but thats what a good professor is about- the challenge. Hating it and loving it all at once.
Weird prof...never spent less than 2 hrs of class time asking each student in the class questions about his notes by seats(one got stuck he started over with the same questions again, and it went on & on, endless, until we finished it all), pick on minorities, and never kept topics off sexuality(and made students go along with him)
One of the best and most brilliant English teacher I have ever took in my life. Like everybody said, he is a bit intimidating because he often picks on students to think and give perspectives. As long as you satisfy his requirements, definitely an A or B. HE IS SUCH A NICE PERSON ON GRADING. Honestly, it's like a philosophy class. HE CARES ABOUT YO
Talked forever, but never made a point. Essay assignments were longer than needed to answer prompt- last few pages were rubbish. I particularly disliked that he asked a gay student to read a journal out loud in which he described his promiscuity. I have nothing against gay men, but I don't want to hear about how many men ANYONE has slept with.
He is a funny and nice professor but you need to think in his class. He will keep asking you questions until you get the correct one.He uses 1st half of the semester to teach you senstance patten and the other half for essay. There were 6 essays, which is 1 PER WEEK.He is a hard grader if you want to get A.
Pretty cool, proff. Most didn't like his class because their afraid of confertation. But if that's not a problem for you, and you work hard, the class is very interesting. Make your papers long.
Great teacher! Only 3 essays due per semester. Likes critical thinkers. Do not take this class if you are not willing to work. Fairly easy grader. Interesting topics. Participate in class discussions and you will do fine!
This guy is truly a character. You'll either love him or hate him. If you have a good sense of humor and are thoughtful you will do fine. If you are easily offended and have trouble connecting concepts this is not for you. He goes one by one in the rows asking questions during his lecture and will definitely call you out if you are the latter. 5/5
McQueen is one of the best professors you can take at PCC, if your willing to work. He is filled with knowledge and makes class very interesting with his humor. He assigns many essays but is fair on grading. He pushes students to do their best. He is my ultimate favorite teacher and he made me enjoy english.
For the first time, he seems intimidating but after you know him, you will like him. He tries hard to help students with his unique way... =) You need to work hard and use your head if you want to success in his class....
awesome proffesors for hard workers and thinkers. it's like a 3 in 1 class-english, philosophy and critical thinking( as well as participating). u can submit essays lately.he doesn't care.all he cares about ur improvement. he helps those more who push themselves to get better grades. i started as a B student but ended up getting a fair A.
Prof. is a great instructor, he really encourages students to take a step back and think. You will learn that half ass answers are not the easy way out but will only probe further questioning, so use your brain and engage yourself in constructive conversation. attend. is mand. as participation is mand. Prof. willing to take time to help you learn.
He is one of the best English professors at Pcc!! He is great! He really challenges you and makes you think. If you like to talk about books and have discussions, take him.
WHEN I LOOK BACK, I WANT YOU STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND THAT PROF. MCQUEEN IS A GOOD PROF. HE IS INTERESTING, AND YOU WILL QUESTION IF HE IS TEACHING DRUNK AT TIMES. BUT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER "IS IT TRUE THAT BLACKS CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT JESUS?"
There has never been and never will be another english professor like Professor McQueen. He opened my eyes to the world of short stories and poems and gave me the inspiration and encouragement I needed to pursue my dream of going to USC Film School.Presently, I produce/direct films and have the best career at CBS Corporation.Thank you MM. Gregory
I had to add his class and he had a writing competition for those who wanted the class. So worth it, he remains my favorite prof to this day. He's going to open your mind so be ready!
Took during winter. TONS of reading. Weekly journals. 2 papers which were graded extremely easily. I wrote a cr@p paper and got an A on it. 2 in class tests-must know title, author,& quotes. 2 in class essays that are 3 part comparisons. WRITE A LOT!! Most of his grading is based on length of writing. Always started late and let us out late..
Easy B. Must write super long, thrilling papers for the A. If you are not an English major, I suggest to take it Pass/No pass
Total liberal! Hates the military and anything conservative..however if you can get past his liberal politics the work is very basic and very simple...show up and complete the assignments and you'll get an A. He likes to argue with you and mock things that are dear to you. Don't be afraid to fight back.
Had him for 1B and 1C and got A's in both classes. Not very fun to be around, don't try to avoid conversation because thats his idea of participation. I missed a quarter of the class but got a good grade. Thick skinned people do well, papers don't have to be that long because their all 2 spaced 14 font. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU DONT LIKE PHILOSOP
The best Professor you can ever met for an English class. The REAL "speak your mind". I love his class. And I miss him so much.
McQueen is one of the best English professors at pcc!! I took English 1A and 1C with him. His syllabus is vague and he is a tough grader! But he is funny and his lectures are very insightful! He makes you think outside the box. Yes, one class he required 12 essays, but they were relatively easy. Do the work and you'll pass his class! I miss him!
McQueen is the best. he taught me how to think. i'll miss him.
Prof: Funny, Intense, Unbiased, Wants discussion, Has favorites. Class: Deep, Lots of reading, Even more writing (2 journals/week)(3 essays/class), Be ready to talk in class and defend point. This class was like no other. Took topics that questioned the ideals we stand by. You will either come out stronger or be overwhelmed at the end. Do it!
It is almost a year since I have taken his class. I just want to come back to say that this is THE BEST English class I have ever taken. Prof. McQueen just lead us through a series of the most profound literature that I will definitely remember for the rest of my life. And these literature cannot be so memorable without Prof. McQueen.
I took this course two years ago.I am studying at a UCI now and I found his blunt advice and literature the most helpful to this day.Take his critique with a grain of salt, as its insightful and challenging.Yes its a hard class with readings, essays and analysis via the Socratic method but it's extremely rewarding. He is definitely of UC caliber.
Learned incredibly little about British lit. Easy class though. Attendance really is not mandatory. McQueen likes to ramble and argue. He assigned no readings and admitted to having no lesson plan most classes boiled down into arguments over religion. 6 page min on papers = C He values quantity. You want your papers to be in 8-10 page range atleast
He is a great professor! You need to do journals every week, two papers and two exams. It is hard, but you learn a lot. He is a professor that you will never forget. You just need to responsible and participate in his class. If you are lazy and do not want to think, I don't recommend you this class.
Prof. McQueen has a gift of teaching! He can be intimidating in the beginning, but once you get over it, his classes can become kind of addictive. He is THE ONE and ONLY who will make many pieces of literature and poetry to stay in your memory forever!
Do not take this guy over winter or summer. heres what happens in first 3 weeks" 4 3-page essays per week, a test on 25 short stories + 1 full novel, 10 page essay.
very different teacher than what you may have had. He does not mince his words and will confront you over various issues. If you don't pay attention in class, don't come. He will introduce you to a lot of classic music and poetry. Very recommended.
The BEST professor in PCC. Took all his 1A, 1B and 1C and would take more, but he doesn't teach anything above that :) He makes critical thinking become a whole new world to his students! Thinks outside the box and makes his students want more of those amazing lectures! PCC needs more McQueens on every subject!
He is absolutely brilliant. Much more enjoyable than all of those AP English classes I took in high school. He wants me to go to Berkeley because he thinks I'm brilliant as well. Thank you Professor McQueen for making me realize that, compared to what other people say, I truly am a scholar. Too bad that I can never attend UCLA like he did. sigh
Took 3 classes with McQueen at PCC. Had to decide between UCLA and Berkeley, and his quip that "man created UCLA but God created Berkeley" convinced me to choose the latter. I love Berkeley (the academic part of it at least), and I've had some great professors there so far, but McQueen is simply on another level. Zero pretense; 100% edification.
Take him if you want to think. Ya know, like use your brain. If you want to read good stuff, take Mr. McQueen. He is great. Sometimes he growls to help you to be an attentive student. It's because he cares about what you have to say. He wants people to stand up for what they believe in. he is seriously the best and very open minded.he knows Karate.
His style of teaching is incompromable, he is direct and brilliant. I suggest anyone who wants to really learn how to disect a text to take him. Everyday I learned something new in his class I took him for 1c and 46b. Helpful tip he loves students with strong arguments.
Do not take him unless you want to cry your eyes out every week. Weekly essays and you do absolutely nothing in class. You either get yelled at or comments.
Interesting proffessor. All you do in class is talk and discuss things. 2 journals due every week and 3 essays the whole semester. Its an easy class, take him if you want to think. 86 is an A in his class.
This guy is great. If you want to learn to think for yourself, take his class. He is such an inspirational professor. McQueen is the professor that pushes you to go beyond the scope. This was by far one of my favorite classes here at PCC.
An excellent professor, fascinating, a rarity. Professor McQueen is my favorite teacher at PCC and one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He is inspiring, concerned for students, and devoted to a life-changing educational process. I am forever impacted by what I was taught in his English 1B, 1C, and 46B classes. An environment of free expression
Prof. McQueen really does get you thinking about stuff but his teaching style isn't everyone's cup of tea. When he gets fired up he can really get in your face and make you feel uncomfortable. He's certainly not the right prof for students who are shy and/or dislike conflict and he makes it a point to pick on you if you struggle with his questions.
He is one of the best ESL teachers.
Best English professor I have ever had. Taking his 1C currently and I love it. Interesting discussions and I'm understanding things I never thought I would. Definitely recommend!
McQueen changed my life, made me a stronger person. Someone said he's bad for the shy, but I watched several people find their voice and confidence in response to his aggressive challenge to their ego and intellect. Few profs make it their life mission to empower and educate so deeply. The man is a true visionary. Be READY to see yourself evolve!
WOW WOW WOW! BEST PROFESSOR AT PCC! He has a gift for teaching! He might be intimidating at first, but his class has been the most helpful for me in learning to write and think more about my essays. His weekly essays are what really help you learn as well as the lectures in class, I definitely recommend him! Online readings! No textbook!
Absolutely love him....
McQueen will offer you a red pill and a blue pill; If you chose to drop the class, then, you've accepted the blue pill- you will continue on and remember nothing; If you accept the red pill, then, you will travel down a rabbit hole that you didn't know existed inside of your mind- you will look up and realize 'Hey! I'm eating grass!'
3 Essays. Reality, Truth and Meaning. Half your grade is the essays, other half is journals. He posts readings on canvas, plus handouts and books. You write on two works a week. So at the end we had about 22. You can turn in late. He picks on you in class, to get you to think. Don't feel attacked about it. Pretty relaxed class.
I took a Poetry class with him 3yrs ago and here i am coming back with his memory still ingrained in me. He def left a positive imprint. He challenges you to think and will pick on you in class so be on your feet. No ill intent, just wants to lead genuine discussion. Quote that has stuck with me: "if adults don't correct the young, then who will"
I really enjoyed his lectures. At times they'd veer off somewhere, but if you read all the readings, it'll eventually click. Right off the bat there is no syllabus or a clear rubric on how he will be grading your journalspapers. If it catches his attention you will you get good, constructive feedback. Confused but intrigued the entire semester...
He is an amazing professor! His lectures are long but as long as you try to understand them and participate you'll do fine. There are journals every week but pretty much just about the readings. Not a hard class and he is hilarious! There is 3 major essays to write but he is a fair grader!
Be prepared to participate, absolutely crucial to this class. You also have to think for yourself, hard, I know. Guys like him are a dying breed, would highly recommend. People will complain about him but he only wants you to succeed. Long discussions in class with extensive use of the Socratic method. Stop eating grass, take the class.
Got handed the syllabus, I was, WTH? 16 essays? He was not joking. But if u stuck it out and listened, REALLY LISTENED, you'll learn a lot. More philosophical than you avg. English class, & subjects ranged from Quantum Mechanics to a story of Ants. Makes u think. He actually made me a better writer, for that I will forever grateful.
The class was an easy A. Only 3 essays and weekly 3-paged journals. Overall, he graded easily just show that you care about the essay topic and think critically. No other work.
He assigns a ton of readings, where you have to write journals on them. The good part, he doesn't look at your level of writing, but your quality of ideas. Does a lot of lectures but has controversial opinions. A few major essays, with a theme for each one. Strange grading but it felt easy to pass.
Prof. McQueen's lectures opened up a whole new universe of knowledge to me. His extraordinary approach to critical thinking and analysis will stay with me for the rest of my life. He teaches from the heart, and he is not afraid to speak about an elephant in the room when it comes to issues of equality, religion, & racism. WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN!!!
I took him years ago and he just came to mind the other day. He's absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. He belittled so many students in the class and basically calls you stupid if you say "I don't know" to a question he asks. I sincerely hope he isn't teaching anymore.
McQueen has been the most interesting professor I've taken. His teaching approach is very different from previous english courses. There's only 3 essays that focuses on the topics, reality, truth, and meaning. Participation matters because he spends the entire class time asking questions and picking on students.
This is college so don't be shocked or offended when he discusses "adult" and controversial topics. Hands down he is the best professor I have had and though he may seem a kooky from time to time, he means well and just wants you to perceive the world differently. TONS OF WRITING. But is lenient when it comes to turning assignments in.
McQueen is an extremely hard grader. I thought he would call on students like other reviewers said but he will just go down a line and have you explain something that the previous students said. Your grade is compromised of three essays and 3 page journals that are due weekly so if you value your GPA at all, avoid his class at all costs.
This guy is something else. Class revolves around philosophy. His grading is quite strange but he grades mostly on effort. He's willing to work with students and often is almost too lenient. Sometimes it's really hard to follow his lectures. Likes to argue and talk about his political views a little too much. He will definitely make you think.
This class isn't hard, grading for journals and papers are easy he just wants you to think for yourself on all topics AND include the readings. There are no wrong/right answers in your writings. The catch is his lectures are HARD to stick to, he never stays on track. He is older now so he loses his train of thought constantly. Rambles ALOT.
If you want someone to impact your life and the way you think. Take him. There is no right or wrong answer. As long as you can challenge him you will pass his class. The only way to not pass is if you never turn nothing in. He has become one of my favorite professor at pcc. Bless him.
It's kind of hard to follow his lectures, and class always felt disorganized but that may be because I took it during the winter. His goal is to get you to argue with him, and he does a good job at it, so if you don't like the idea of being called on I suggest you not take this class. He assigned weekly journals, but he is a fairly easy grader.
Took him in the winter and loved the way he made us think for ourselves. There are no right or wrong answers, put in the effort, read, write well. Mention the readings in your papers or he will dock you. Great professor, not many like him anymore. If you get offended easily DO NOT take this class. Get ready to engage and discuss. Enjoyed the class.
you can use the journals in the papers. can seem harsh but he just wants us to think and actually is coming from a good place. He still gets excited by student's ideas on these topics that he's been teaching for awhile, that says something. Just turn in something the right length and you'll do well. A lot of reading/writing but... english so u know
He is the worst professor for esl students. He asked us to make essays that werent an esl level, he said it himself, he said its for 1A and above. He never gave me an A on my essays and when i asked him what was wrong with my essay, all his response was its good, he didnt tell me what i did wrong. Dont take him for esl class.
He lost my journals on the last day. literally didn't show up to class for 4 weeks and he didn't notice. Don't have to be present to pass the class. you literally just have to do all ur journals and turn In ur 3 essay papers and ur looking at an A or B
He changed my life. He is the most amazing teacher I have ever had.
