worst teacher in concordia
Teacher is full of himself. Although I did well in the course I would not recommend him. He teaches as though he is above the students, often trying to belittle them when he senses their insecurity. His way is the only way, the right way, so he says...

the class is probably the most fun class i ever attended at concordia but he marks really hard which is not something u expect because he appears really laid back. doesn't answer any of your questions (v. unhelpful) and is unclear about what he wants.
He has a distinctive personality. He helped you get to know yourself.He gave students pressure. That is why he is disliked by them. But nobody would deny that they do learn a lot from him- at least they went through those challenges finally.
i thought he was one of the best teachers at concordia. he knows what he is talking about and has the work experience to back it up. if you dont like to work, dont take this class though. i would take a class with him again in a second.
Really hard marker, doesnt care about the students, obsessed about some stupid telecommunications deal he once did, he is old and outdated, thinks he knows everything about business when he knows nothing!

Who said he is EASY?! He is so arrogant and frequently sniff non-english speakers. Maybe he isn't aware but he discriminate Chinese! When people make mistakes, he enjoy yelling at them. If you don't trust me, just try it.

I can say that he is one of my best teachers in concordia. he is a tough grader, but his instructions are very clear. if you love presenting, this is the class for u!! everything is graded on presentations. follow his instructions, and u dont have toworry

He is not capable of explaining the assignment's requirements, his grading scheme and does the impossible to average the whole class to the same grade.
Just follow HIS instructions and you will do fine. Don't even bother buying the book. If you don't follow instructions and get a bad mark, don't ask why.

Listen, i took this class, and actually though that i learnt something. all i can say is his 'perfect business format' lost me 20 points in another COMM course. so, do yourself a favor and learn COMM 212 from some else.
ok this class is supposed to be an easy A but not with this teacher. he is the worst grader, prepare for C's he can never give e good mark even when you think you did amazing. the only thing, he is very interesting,but it's really misleading.

I had him in my first semester and he says straight out that he wont't give an A. For a project, he asked to use ours as a model for future students, but still all we got was a B+. Very moody and not at all helpful.

He is a strict teacher, and seems to do things carefully. Every class is funny, and you do not need to buy the textbook.He teaches from his experience, so just follow his method. Confused or not sure, ask him for details. Don't expect high scroe from him.
This guy is funny in class but don't be fooled. He'll cheat you on your grade and he never owns up to his decisions when you confront him about how he marked your paper. He's a coward and passive-aggressively takes it out on your grades. GET ANOTHER PROF!

dont buy the book. his notes are on his website. his instructions arent clear at all. he makes class interesting at least but is a bad marker. he plays favorites when grading so if you participate regularly and make good orals, you might do good but youll never get an A. get someone else.
I thought Medicoff was a great teacher. He marks fair considering the new grading scale. If you work hard in his course your marks will show for it. He emphasizes mainly on how YOU can involve YOUR audience in an oral presentation. Always add the word YOU in YOUR orals and you will get a good mark.
Medicoff is a good professor. A bit tough on details, though, and certainly not an easy marker. Still, if you sit back and enjoy his classes you will leave the course with good communications skills and an advantage over others.
This teacher is a very picky grader. Dont expect to get better than a B. Its all about doing orals. There is 1 individual paper and 1 group paper to do But both are done at the end of the semester It gets hectic I don't recommened this teacher bc he just wont give you an A no matter how hard you try
He's very strict on grades. But what he taught was quite useful in the coming classes, and especially the presentation methods. They are very important in the business area. Although we will lose sth. on grade, we'll get lots of benefits in the future.
Very strikt teacher! Classess are not hard, but the orals, projects are impossible to do! His requierements are way to demanding!!! He knows his subject and it is interesting to be in his class but he expects us to know EVERYTHING he says and in the end B is your highest grade for this class! AVOID!

He's a tough grader as anything you do is criticized to a fine point. He's also bias so try to avoid otherwise if you're a girl try flirting and participating a lot. If you are happy with a B then go for him as mostly everyone gets Bs with him.

comm 212 is a very easy class if you just do the work. there are no tests. Medicoff on the other hand is a nice guy, a decent teacher, but he can be an **** sometimes. a real class-act jerk.

At the start of the semester he tries to fool you into thinking he's an easy going guy, but as the weeks roll by you begin to see his true colours. He's arrogant, sarcastic, and worst of all he's demeaning and disrespectful. He has no consideration for people's feelings whatsoever. I think HE is the one that should take a communication course.

As many say,he is a very hard marker! To get a good mark, focus on the format of the essay rather then the content. In presentations, you need to SMILE alot, make the class laugh and are upbeat. Look on his site to get tips on exactly what he is looking for in essays and presentations BEFORE doing the work.

Still using his format and pointers for orals and papers. His class helps anyone get over there fear of speaking in front of the class. As mentioned here he is a hard marker, follow EXACTLY what he wants for format, take notes on any frivilous examples he uses and INCLUDE them in your papers. Although HARD, we had no final. I got an A-.

I got an B+ in the class, simply because I'm comfortable with presentations, and I should have gotten an A. This teacher does put you a mark out of how he feels for you for your presentations. For the papers, he doesn't even grade them TA's do that so you can have a different grade than your peer that has same level work done. Do not recoomend this teacher. Unclear, unhelpful, full of himself.
Generally friendly and funny, but very harsh marker. I have to admit he will improve your public speaking skills! His grading, however, is absolutely random without any pattern and often very biased!
A lot of group work, he chose groups well and made us work alot together so that he built a strong team sense. Yet his grading lacks clarity, he has his harsh brother grade the projects. He doesn't want to award high grades. Very eloquent, though.

Mark is a good teacher. He allows students to mingle and you really get to know your classmates. He really helps with oral presentations. He is somewhat of a hard marker, however it never goes below a B-. I had a lot of fun in his class
I loved this class. I was terrified of doing presentations but I am now surprisingly calm in front of large groups of people. I was able to take a lot out of this class and it's great because you make lots of friends due to all the group work! However he is definitely NOT an easy marker!

I had a blast in his class. He got the class into discussions, and you really learn a lot pertaining to real life from presentations. He is unclear about what he wants in the paper. If you are a talented writer you have no advantage cause he grades your paper based on his favorites. For orals he only listens to the first 30 secs & then fills out the evaluation form based on that, so start strong. For the final, read the book & do the questions online cause they are the same.

Mark was amazing! It was probably the best class I ever took at JMSB. You truly do learn to communicate in his class, which is essential for succeeding in the business world. Despite being his favorite in class, his assignments are toughly graded, and again... you dont really know what he wants. You will become a biz student in his class.

Very anal teacher when it comes to formatting. Forgetting to put a comma in the place he wants it on the cover page will bring your grade from and A to a B+. Takes attendance in every class. Otherwise the class is easy. do the work and read the book before the final and get your B+ (only 2 people in my section got higher than B+ and 18 got B+)
I've yet to meet somebody more demeaning and condescending. He considers all of us students inferior lifeforms that need to be educated. Made a comment in front of the whole class on my appearance: highly unprofessional. Other classes are tough so take a different prof to hold your GPA. You'll learn something but it's useless cus it's his opinion.

Really did not like his class. He is very unclear with what he wants and then when you hand in the work he gives you a bad grade because it was not what he asks for. He is very objective when grading the orals especially and a very tough marker.

Just finished our last class in comm 212. Marks class was the only one that kept me going during the semester. The class was always at ease, most of our time was spent laughing and getting to know eachother and the subject. I really liked this class and professor. Thanks Mark

Good teacher! Before this class I was scared to do the presentations but after this class I improved significantly! Very useful class. Plus the book is very easy to read. No midterm exam, just work on your oral presentations. I've got A- which I never even dreamed about!

When I went to go see him to ask him where I lost that mark, he told me NOBODYS PERFECT and that he will NEVER give someone 100%. He always takes attendance, NEVER refers to the book (never looked at it once in class) and he keeps you in till the very last second. AVOID
Expect oral presentations, on foolish things like humiliating moments, every single class. He hasn't opened the book once and has not even spoken about the final exam material once. People will tell you it's an easy class where you can get an easy grade. That's what it seems at first glance, but it's not, especially not with Medicoff. He never uses the textbook, he gives low grades on orals and doesn't provide constructive criticism on why we got a low grade, he never uses the textbook and we never practiced for the final!
This is the grade distribution for fall 2013: A+: 0 A: 1 A-: 3 B+: 4 B: 21 B-: 13 C+:10 C: 4 C-:0 D+: 1 {D,D-,F}:0 (no one failed) Look at the comments, obviously this guy isnt gonna win personality of the year, and looking at the grades, forget abt getting an A in this class. Then again I got a B while missing 4 classes and having no textbook.
Avoid at all costs if you have a high GPA, getting over B is incredibly hard. less than 6% of class got A or A- as he grades out of /90 not /100. you will get 4.5/5 (highest mark possible for him) if you only use images in your visuals!! Does not fail anyone so if your just looking to breeze by, take him. will do nothing to prepare you for final!!!

The best teacher I had this semester. He is hilarious, his courses are interesting and based on YOUR participation. Yes he is a tough grader but his grades are justified. You won't do this class for your GPA, you will do his class to IMPROVE your communication skills (and have fun, his courses are NEVER boring!).

Had him for 212 and it started off alright. He seemed funny and down to earth. Once the deadline to drop the course passed, it's as if he he lived to make your semester awful. He preaches being clear and concise but has no idea how to do that himself. Be prepared for long nights, frustrating essays and the urge to drop out rather than deal with him
Mark Medicoff is a horrible teacher. During the entire semester, he didn't open once the book with us, and then at the end of the semester he said that the final exam is just about the book. He didn't explain any important material. It was really unclear how he wanted the presentation of the project.
He doesn't do anything during the semester and you have no preparation for the exam. You have to buy the textbook and teach yourself. That being said, the course is not that hard if you keep up with the textbook. As long as you put the effort to read the chapters on your own, you'll do fine. Finished with a B.

Possibly the worst teacher. He is completely useless. He doesn't teach you the textbook at all and the whole final exam (40%) is on the textbook. Instead he teaches you about compassionate communication a boring subject that he is passionate about. He is an extremely hard grader on the formal report. Attendance is mandatory. Extremely rude. AVOID
Avoid at all costs! Nice guy, fun lectures, but his grading makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I am an advanced English student and received what he calls a "generous" 60% for our formal report worth 25%. After reviewing the report he said I was "lucky he didn't reduce my grade". Beware, this teacher will hurt your GPA!
Probably one of the worst teachers i took this semester. Final exam is based on book, doesnt touch it once. I know for a fact he skims through our individual project, so all the hard work you put in doesnt reflect your grade, its more on how he bases how you are. Stay away, ended up with a C+ , when this class is a easy B,B+
Medicoff was probably the worst teacher I've ever had at JMSB (I graduated with straight A's except in a few classes, his included). He does not care about teaching at all. The only thing we did was to have class presentations EVERY SINGLE CLASS. His feedback were superficial and he doesn't care how much you work, he'll grade you as hard as he can.
I actually ended up liking him even though i havent read one good review about him. He does teach you life lessons. His lectures are simple and very chilled out. I really enjoyed his lectures even tho topics were a bit boring. Hes a tough grader but does give As (just make sure u meet EVERYTHING on his rubric). Also,et ready to meditate with him!
Terrible teacher and very hard grader... Doesn't prepare us for the final whatsoever. He doesn't believe in perfect grades. Most of the grading in this class is papers and orals which he will grade according to his personal opinion. He will take off marks from your paper for little to no reason. AVOID THIS TEACHER
Mark is an interesting teacher and gives wise advice during his classes. As long as you're awake and ready to participate, his class is enjoyable and quite easy to pass! Of course, for the final, you have to read your textbook... But isn't that any university course?
I found him good! For my first class at university, and with the experience now of other teachers, he was funny and I enjoyed his weird style of teaching! Would recommend

He yells if you use your laptop or phone in class and he talk about irrelevant things the whole class. His grading makes no sense and even though you will work had don't expect a good grade. Also you need to read the book yourself to pass the final. TBH even if he is the only option for comm 205 don't take him it will ruin your GPA
after the drop deadline passed he changes to a whole new person, makes you feel like you're stupid for asking a question. He taught us nothing about what the subject was and he knows nothing about the subject either! he walks into class without knowing what to do that class. the grade you'll receive depends if he likes you or not. Also very rude
This class is all about reading the book because thats what the final is based on. He is an easy grader, gives out the same grade to everyone. However he doesnt teach the material of the course, but honestly if u read one chapter per week and take notes youll be fine
An awful instructor at best. Mark is extremely incompetent with his emails (ironic since he teaches about effective communication) and is ridiculously harsh with grades. He admitted that he would fail the final exam if he wrote it- in other words, he is clueless in regards to class material. Save your GPA and avoid even if the world is ending.
Didn't like him at the very beginning, but slowly find out his attraction! He's a very caring professor and willing to answer all kinds of problems. Gives you good feedback on your work and school life. It may seem that he doesn't know how to teach, but later you will find out that the things he's trying to teach you is so important in life!
Created an account just so I could write this to warn people just how poor Mark is of a professor. Unprofessional, poorly conducted classes, no clear lesson structures, doesn't even use his own slides, all over the place, rude and scolds students for using phones/laptops. In my 15 years of education, this is the worst module I have ever taken.
COMM205 is a dry course, but Mark finds a way to make it fun. He's a nice guy and gives practical real-life advice. His 5 minute meditations are cool. Takes attendance every class. Makes people get into groups and work together. Only thing is that he doesn't actually teach the course so either read the book or take a crash course. Fun class though!
Course outline was unclear and contained false information. Assignments were poorly explained and graded extremely harshly. The course consisted of getting into groups and talking to people, no material from the textbook was covered in class. You would be better off studying the book than attending, but of course attendance was mandatory. Abysmal.
Very little learned in class, very boring, mandatory attendance. Does not like phones in class. Lots of quirks with this professor. Assignments graded very harshly, he is very pointy on format. Exam is based almost on the textbook, little of in class work is useful for the final exam. Expect to get between a C and a B.
When I took the course, all the students in class are behaving in an unrespectful way and acting like primary kids. Mark is definitely a nice professor, yet no one listens to what he says in class. All you need to know for the final is the formats, and he teaches you all. Project requirements are stated clearly, questions are all answered too.
Mark is a good guy who cares for his students. Still, the lectures were unnecessarily long and boring. During class, all we did was meditate and ask questions about the assignments. None of the content of the final exam is explained during class. He basically says "for the exam go study the book and start soon" so you basically teach yourself.
Prof. Mark Medicoff was my least favorite professor in my first year at JMSB. He was disorganized and gave very vague feedback to your questions. However, he was very caring and was aware of the struggle students have during the pandemic i.e he pushed back assignments and answered your emails. It's an easy class if you learn the book by heart!

He swears all info in outline is clear and organized; untrue. Very vague when answering questions. Assignments are not graded fairly. Learn textbook for final.
The assignment guidelines are so confusing. Anytime you ask a question, he answers in such a vague way that you leave more confused than you were before. You're asked to refer to the textbook, yet copying every single structural element of the format still loses you marks. The lectures are completely disconnected from the course matter. Just bad.
One of the sweetest teachers I've encountered. No participation grade because he believes it is discriminatory towards introverts which is super considerate of him. Doesn't really teach much though so you could definitely pass by just reading the textbook since it's an easy class. Gives a lot of extensions for papers too and very understanding.
3-hour lectures and I was excited to participate but some of the grading was so harsh and hard to understand. He would get upset about us not following guidelines but when I talked to other people in the class, everyone was confused and he didn't answer questions directly. Really disappointed with this assignment-heavy class.

He's super disorganized and a really tough grader, also the assignments are very unclear and the TA thinks it's funny to give cynical comments instead of actually helping you understand what you did wrong. Avoid at all costs!!!
This prof was pretty cool & tried his best to make his lectures interesting and engaging. Would call out people who didn't have their cameras on though, and based part of our grade on whether the group had virtual backgrounds on Zoom, (which isn't compatible on all devices). Would recommend taking him though
I don't know why Mark has such a bad rating, he is pretty cool & caring. For the assignments, CAREFULLY LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS & follow that! For the final, just read the book and if you have any doubts then he is always available to help out in class or during office hours. Yeah, you'll have to meditate in his class but trust me it's helpful!!
I did not enjoy how he is very disorganized. We have about 6 classes left before the end of the semester and I am already discouraged about my grades that I have received. I work hard in school and ended up getting a low grade on an assignment. I am also not satisfied with the TA's.

Worst professor I have ever had! He is super disorganized and so vague with instructions that you have no idea what is going on all semester. He is an extremely tough grader when it comes to the group project and oral presentation. Nit picks at the littlest details. Just don't do it and avoid him at all costs!
Prof Medicoff is a nice guy. Unfortunately he makes an easy class hard to follow. Group project is heavy, and some assignments are unclear. I wouldnt take him again for this class.
He is ok but so disorganized, we were all so confused about guidelines and deadlines. If you're stuck with him, just stay up to date with the textbook readings because the class content is useless and not in the exam. He literally doesn't teach the course theory and if you asked me what we did, I frankly can't even remember
Terrible teacher, probably the worst I've ever had. He's condescending and refuses to teach the material or answer direct questions. He hides his lack of decency behind disingenuine compassion. Instructions are extremely vague and he criticizes people for missing details which he claims he mentioned during his mind-numbing classes.
H'es rude and non-empathetic. Don't even question his grading, he will get offended. Very disrespectful would rather take any other prof available instead of him! work load is fair but very hard marker.

Comm 205 is an easy, common sense class, yet prof. Mark still manages to make it a pain to go through. I haven't learnt anything in his class. Lectures were 3h long and only consisted of him talking about random stuff, telling people to put the camera on every 5min and not getting to the point. Instructions for assignments weren't clear at all.
Ironic that a communications lecturer was incredibly unclear and passive aggressive. Was extremely vague, even after attending office hours we had no idea what he wanted from us. Interrupted students, forced my group to take back group members that we kicked out after weeks of non participation and graded ridiculously hard. Terrible experience
