Great professor, fun, interesting

What more can I say? This is perhaps the best kept secret in the RC dept. By far the best teacher. Absolute quality! quality! quality! Treat him well and don't take adavantage. He is fair, helpful, caring and makes the class an enagaging experience.

Mark is SOOOOO HOT!!! Seriously, he's got the whole "bad-boy" look goin for him, while remaining gentle and reserved. He is oh so dreamy and loved by all. One more thing, he ROCKS live, while he and his band perform! WOOT!

Excellent professor. I really dislike english classes, but he is really flexible about letting you write about what you want as along as it coincides with the themes pf the class. Other professors force you to write about the war or what not, but this man lets you choose your own road.

Prof Mark Merritt is one of the more caring teachers you will find in USF. If you take his class you should want to meet him outside class time. He was very helpful to me with my english and is 100times better than learning writing center when it comes to revising papers. He's also very nice to the level where you feel guilty handing in paper late

This professor is great! He is so helpful and he makes the class as fun as it can be. Sometimes it is a little boring but thats just cause its writing. He tries hard and will help you as much as you need. When he checks your paper, he really reads the whole thing no matter how many times you ask. He is great!! Take him!

I LOVE PROFESSOR MERITT! He really knows what he is talking about, and is very dedicated to helping his students succeed in life. I def. recommend him.

very good teacher who explains in a lot of detail so you dont miss a thing. great communication via email. altho syllabus says 6 absences mean penalty, i missed like a month of class and he didnt even ask a thing. love this guy, great teacher, and extremely helpful. gives great feedback for essays. He's a funny guy and really helpful. Understands that you have a life and doesn't think his class can take over your life. Fair grader, 4 essays in a semester based on readings from the textbook. You can tell he wants his students to have a good experience in his class, and most do.

I love prof. Meritt! He is definitely one of the best writing teachers I have had in a long time. He is a funny guy, and makes the class super enjoyable. You should really, really take his class!!

He is a very helpful teacher. If I missed class, I would have to do is email him, and he would email me back the sheets passed out in class that same day. He is always willing to help students, however he does go off in a lot of tangents. Overall, I would recommend him!!!

I really liked his classes. You can miss like 8 classes, revise your drafts and final papers, and he is very open minded, so you don't have to stick to his opinion. Really, awesome teacher. I would recommend him because you don't have to sweat a lot to A his class. He is not hot though, long hair, bad posture, glasses... Not my type. LOL

He's a pretty cool guy. Allows you to email him your essay and gets back to you 36 hours or less if he can. Provides good feedback to improve your essay. Def recommend him because he cares about the work load you have from other classes too. Allows you to send in new versions of essays to raise your grade. Great prof.

Professor Meritt has been extremely helpful and kind this semester. I got a lot out of this class- I would highly recommend it to anyone!

one of the most helpful teachers i have had at usf. he genuinely cares about his students and loves when you come to him for help.just like any other class, if you do all the work, put effort into his essays, and go to class you will get a good grade.

He genuinely cares for his students and will extend deadlines if needed. Meritt is knowledgeable about writing. Extremely helpful and will write at least half a page worth of feedback on your paper. Plus, he does Homer Simpson impersonations and makes cheesy jokes. Just put in the effort and you should be fine.

Meritt is one of the NICEST TEACHERS EVER. i love him. he's super chill about everything and is super laid back. you have reading reports and a few major essays. but if you participate in class, i feel like he favors you. i dont think he is very strict about attendance either. he likes to talk about random stuff and goes off topic a lot. One of the best professors I've had at USF. He is extremely helpful, and very accommodating to students' demanding schedules. Go to class, put in a little effort, and you'll be fine.

Professor Meritt is the nicest professor I had at USF. He is very relaxed and really cares about his students. There are three major essays and reading reports. He is super helpful, especially in Office Hours. He favor students who participate in class. Take him for rhetoric!

I love this prof! He's so down to earth and nice but really seems to know what he's talking about. My essay writing skills are definitely improving because of his CONSTRUCTIVE but perceptive criticism. Does he have tenure yet? USF, do your best to keep this guy. Advice: [Go to class most of the time. Skim the books. Write essays. You'll be fine.]

Mr. Merritt is actually a fantastic professor. He always gives good feedback. He is attentive and never makes you feel dumb when you are speaking in class. He is nerdy and awkward, which makes him super cute. I definitely want to try and have him as a professor next semester!!!

I absolutely loved Meritt and his class. He is so kind and does everything he can to help you out. He is definitely my favorite professor at USF and I wish he taught more classes so I could take them! He has a nice sense of humor as well which always livened up the class room. Take him! Professor Meritt is one of the best professors I've ever had!!! He is such a cool, laid-back guy - lets you take your own pace and is sooo understanding. BUT DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE!!! He is way, way, way too lenient you won't want to let him down. He's a great teacher. Take him if you can.

Meritt is the best professor I've had at USF so far. He really cares about his students and does everything he can to help you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for rhet 120 since that's a core req. Most of the reading assignments are in the first half of the sem, 3 essays, and occasional in class assignments. Great professor, great person!

Merritt is the best and most understanding professor in USF. I highly recommend taking him, you won't regret it. 3 essays and readings that aren't long and dreadful but interesting and fun to read. You won't be disappointed

He is the sweetest and most understanding professor I have had! He is genuine, very sensitive and cares for each student. He often makes fun of himself to make students laugh and feel more comfortable. He is also very knowledgeable of literary studies (he does have PHD in Literature) and is always willing to sit down to have a good chat. Recommend!

He's super nice and so relaxed. He gives about 5 essays throughout the semester but he gives you the option to keep sending in your essay up until the due date to have him proofread so he makes it really easy for you to get an A on all of your papers.

BEST TEACHER EVER. If you ever have the chance, take his class. They fill up fast cause he's that good. So helpful and genuinely cares about how you do in class. He gives you feedback on essays and so much time to revise. If you want more feedback you can go to office hours or just email him your next draft. 3 essays & 1 final essay only 3 pages

Mark Meritt is an incredible teacher. He will always be there no matter what you need. He'll answer all your emails pretty well and answer questions as best he can. 4 essays that get progressively longer and one final essay only 3 pages long. He teaches very well. If you want him, you have to register ASAP

Easy A for sure. Attendance not mandatory plus gives extensions on essays. He was so kind of dorky but adorable and funny in his own way. I truly enjoyed his class he was very helpful and nice. Plus discussions in class were sort of interesting which made rhet bearable.

Mark Meritt is an amazing teacher. He's made my freshman year great and his teaching is very concise and constructive! I'm taking him for an advanced writing class this spring (2016). He's a great guy and he's a great professor! His class is interesting but not overly difficult! I'm going to miss having him as a professor.

Really awesome professor! Workload instructions are clear and concise. I really enjoyed the reading responses and class discussions. For a 9:15am he really knows how to grab the attention of the class and bring everyone in. With this being said, he is really awesome and has great charisma. He really cares for his students.

Sooo beyond grateful I was able to take Mark's class this year. I know this sounds like every other review on here, but he really is always available to help you whether it be thesis statements, essays, reading responses, etc. He responds to emails in the snap of your fingers, too. He gives you 6 free classes to miss NQA. All around great prof .

best professor of my lifeeee. plz take him!!!! trust me, he is always willing to help and make me to feel good as a writer. very respectful and easy grader also. you have to write multiple essays, but you get to choose your own topics, so it is not difficult at all. trust me and take him!!!!

Mr. Merrits class was a highlight of my college experience. His class was the best core class Ive taken. He is caring, he teaches, and he is inspirational. If you are questioning who take I highly recommend his class. Its hard work but he makes it so enjoyable! He actually took care of his students. Best teacher award!

Dr. Meritt is one of the greatest RHET 110 teachers I know. You have a total of 3 essays with one presentation. Make sure you go to class cause he has (graded) in-class exercises. He is so accessible when you are in need help especially on those essays. You have 6 total excused absences!!!! He also crack funny jokes sometimes!!

I just took Professor Merritt this semester, and I think he is an amazing teacher! We only have 3 papers the entire semester, and then there are in class assignments or some homework due like reading assignments which aren't hard at all. You can skip 6 classes but if you don't feel good one day email him he's super chill. Would take again!

BEST PROF EVER!!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!! International-student-friendly!!! He is always available to those students who need helps! Nice grader and giving helpful feedback on time. It is an easy A class to take! You may therefore miss up to six classes with no penalty to your grade. (However i missed more then 6 but there was still no penalty.)

Meritt is one of the nicest professors at USF. 2 5pg papers, 1 10pg research paper. Need the textbook for reading responses that are easy to complete. Makes a lot of corny dad jokes. Class can be boring, but is easy to pass and is ALWAYS willing to help on essays.

Professor Meritt is hands down the best professor at USF! He is approachable and does his best to ensure that his students have a clear understanding throughout his lessons. He also encourages you to step out of your own perspective and into others in order to fully understand the concepts being taught. Highly recommend taking his class!

Prof Meritt is the rock-and-roll dad you never knew you needed. As rhet classes are there is a bit of reading but nothing unmanageable. His attendance policy is the most generous one I have ever come across, no penalty until over 6 (SIX!) unexcused absences, and he excuses easily with no doctor's note. Such a character, but a good one nonetheless.

I purposely waited until after I registered for classes to post this so his classes wouldn't fill but they did anyways:( He truly cares about his student and gives very thoughtful feedback on essays. The reading is easy please participate in his class If you take him it makes him very happy and I want to protect him at all costs<3

Professor Meritt is one of the best teachers I have had this semester! He gives great instructions, and he allows you to have him read your essay multiple times! The topics can be interesting and for the final essay, there were 4 topics. 3 papers, each around 2-3 weeks for each. Highly recommend!

Prof Meritt is amazing & it is clear that he is passionate about teaching. He genuinely cares for his students/gives great feedback on essays too. The readings for this class may seem like a lot @ first, but become less frequent (a pro is that they are actually interesting). Easy A if you do the readings & try on the three essays he assigns.

I took his class remotely and he was amazing! Super caring + lenient, he showed great compassion for his students. Homework assignments are just based on readings and arent bad at all. 3 essays total and he gives great feedback!! Would def take him again

The class is entertaining, he always makes jokes, always praises your participation even if what you said doesnt make sense, is always willing to help, and cares a lot about his students. Meritt's a homie no cap. Sign up for his class, participate in discussions and write essay's on prompts you like and you'll do pretty well. He's also really wholesome and compliments your work and ideas, but also gives feedback on your work and goes over ways to improve your skills so take that class for your A2 core.

Easily the best writing professor I have ever had. His feedback on rough drafts is phenomenal and it makes the final draft so much easier. He tells you what is expected for each essay and gives a lot of feedback to guide you to a perfect final draft. He is also very caring and engaging in class. Would highly recommend his class!

Professor Meritt is very flexible and understanding. He provides opportunities for people to have free extensions, and is very approachable whenever people have any questions. He is super organized: 13 (estimated) reading responses, 3 essays (provides clear guidelines), and in-canvas exercises (lenient in grading on these). Take Him! U won't regret

3 essays, 1 oral presentation, many reading responses (but they're not bad at all). no midterm, no final 6 unexcused absences he is sooo nice and caring of his students. i recommend 10/10 taking his class. and the only reason why there is an oral presentation is because it's required from the course (so no strict grading)

SUCH a caring and considerate teacher. He has given me great, specific feedback that is super helpful to improve essays. The workload is just the right amount, nothing excessively difficult. I will be taking him again next semester, highly recommend. Tip: volunteer in class and go to office hours! You get a lot out of participating more.

One of my favorite professors here so far! Replies to every assignment with great feedback, and great constructive feedback for essays. A very caring and understanding professor has a great sense of humor and gives you plenty of opportunities to get extensions for essays and other assignments.

There is not a singgle bad thing to say about mark, he makes sure everyone in his class always feel welcome, and makes it clear to us that our mental and physical wellbeing is the most important thing always. I appreciate him so much for the amount of effort he puts into his classes. He is such a sweetheart and deserves amazing things!

professor meritt is so kind, accomodating, and caring. i really loved this class. usually essays can be pretty dreadful/ boring but he gives you so many prompts to chose from with each essay, or you can basically create your own ( relevant) prompt which made it way more fun. i highly rec this class for rhet 120!!
