awesome! very dedicated and knowledgeable, really cares about students.
Hands down the best TA I've ever had. He's incredibly organized, explains difficult material using clear and concise examples, makes dull topics interesting, and connects with every single person in the class.
He is incredibly organized, conducts clear lectures that are enjoyable to attend, has an excellent memory for learning names, and is always willing to assist students. One of the best at UWO.
Everything about this class was perfect. He's a terrific professor, is always on top of everything and he made the material interesting to learn. Highly recommended!
He stands out in my mind as one of my fav. profs at Western! Kept the material interesting, fair grading, good power point slides. I wish he taught more courses :)
Very clear, good variety of work to make up marks, attendance is required to get blanks in his slides. He makes the class very interesting, the essay is very simple and he helps with any questions. He puts a lot of effort into his lectures. I took this class the first time he taught it but it seemed like he taught it for years. Spot on!
For a night class, it was pretty enjoyable. First time teaching the course but seemed like he taught it for years. Great ppt slides where you fill in the blanks in lecture to take notes. Would definitely take another course with Mark
Mark is a great prof. Approachable, nice and understanding. Lectures are engaging as you have to fill out ppt slides as the lecture goes on. Quizzes were easy. Midterm and assignment was fair. Any questions are clarified either in person or he will get back to you by email within 24 hours. Definitely one of the nicest profs at Western.
Very straightforward, engaging and is a fair marker. He usually gives you the power point blanks on owl and you just have to fill in the info from the in class presentation. There could be random quizzes during class that will count.
Loved this course! Easy 90! The content can be dry, but the professor is so passionate that it makes it okay. Actually enjoyed learning more about Canada, and find the course material useful for everyday knowledge. Great course, take it!
He makes every lecture so interesting. He clearly has a passion for what he's teaching, which makes being a student of his awesome.
Fair marker, really interesting lectures and super passionate about what he teaches. Wish he taught more courses at UWO!
Very passionate about the course material, which makes it easier to interpret and understand.
bruhhh, heres the thing, everything is easy except for the midterm and final. you seriously need to put in actual work to do get 80+ in the class. in other words, you have to literally memorize every detail on the slides and w.e. in the textbook to atleast get 75+ on the exams. only a bird if you actually legit study
One of my favourite prof's at Western. His midterm/final were very fair for geo2310. Labs are somewhat tough but you can go to TA's for help and you have a week to do them. He also rewards people for going to class for offering bonus marks, so go to class. (also his slides r fill in the blank so u kinda have too). But all in all, my fave prof ever
Powerpoints are fill in the blank & he has "activities" that give you a mark for every class so attendance is mandatory. Definitely knows his stuff and is easy to pay attention to when lecturing so classes are almost fun! Exams are fair, they require studying from notes and a read through of the textbook. Great prof, would take this course again!
This is now my third time having him as a prof because I find it's very easy to study for the exams. Almost all his courses have similar format: MC, T/F, fill in the blank, definitions then short answers. All exam material came from his lectures only but every week there's 1 or 2 mini quizzes on the online textbook for easy marks.
My favourite professor at Western by far!! Hes so kind and understanding and super easy to just like. I liked going to class because I liked being in his presence because his teaching style makes it so easy to learn. Obviously you have to put in the work, but know that if you do, hell definitely give you the mark you deserve
Mark was a great prof. His lectures are fill in the blank slides. You do have to purchase tophat but its very fun and is much cheaper than a textbook. for the paper, he lays out very detailed criteria about what he wants to see. Midterm and Final are the same layouts. I would definitely take another geo class if he was the prof.
Lectures are fill in the blank power point. Attend all lectures to get a free 100% on 10% of your mark, he also gives bonus marks for the in class activities. He is such a funny guy, love listening to his lectures! 10% of the midterm and final were on the textbook. I didn't read it and got a 90 in the course! Its not worth buying!
boring material, lots of memorization but not terribly hard to get a good mark
Terrible class - the quizzes and the class participation are not bad but the midterm and final exam are very hard. Exam are all memorization, even after you think you did well you end up dropping after the exam. Dropped 10% after the final after I think I did well - boring lectures very boring tone of voice - do not recommend if you think its bird
Moscicki is a true gem. Quirky yet funny guy who honestly cares about how his students do. Sends you personal emails on how you did relative to the rest of the class. Slides are really well organized and makes it easy to study for the midterm and final. Just going to class is a free 10%, and he throws out bonus marks all the time. Highly recommend.
Free 100% on 10% of your grade just for attending the lectures. Quizzes are easy, and the midterm and final are easy enough if you study for them and graded very fairly. Professor is extremely accessible and sends students personalized emails to check in and ask if they have questions about the class or assignments. Would absolutely take again
Such an amazing guy and lecturer! I have had so many courses where you can tell the prof does not care to be there. However, this is not the case with here. He knows what he's doing! Grading scheme is explicit and clear. Grading itself is fair, and he's always there when you need help. Also very entertaining. Truly a gem!
His course has many activities and quizzes that are basically a free A. His exams were harder than expected but he makes everything so interesting and clear that it is easy to study and to understand what to study. He also plays only Canadian bands during break and gives bonuses if you do well on the activities. One of Western's best!
An absolute gem! You can tell he enjoy's teaching the course material. Marking scheme and powerpoints are extremely clear. Would definitely take a class of his again.
The materials very interesting and easy to understand however you have to actually study hard for the exams as they test you on small details on the exam. However the prof makes this course and classroom very interesting and fun. Mark is soo caring and nice. He is always willing to help his students out. I highly recommend taking a course with him!
Mark is the best professor I've had at Western. His lecture slides and tone may come off dry and boring but it's clear that he really loves Geography and teaching. There are many opportunities to get grades but the 10% assignment and 40% final is a little tricky so just make sure to study and put in effort! Other than that very educational and fun
Mark is a great guy and this course is super easy if you put in the work. Lots of free marks and he makes a 3 hour lecture easier to get through because he includes activities and stuff. Sends personalized emails to students to ask how you're doing and seems very passionate.
Really good prof and super passionate about geo. I took hazards as an elective and it was easily my favorite course all year. He is a fairly tough grader so take you time on exams to include detail and start the essay early. Always go to class to answer in-class assignments and clicker questions - easy marks!
Mark is the best professor I have ever met in Western so far. He is very caring and friendly, and it was really a surprise that he sent out emails to every individual student asking if we need help for the essay. If you do well in the midterm, he even sent out an email to congratulate you. I will definitely take his courses again.
funny guy, caring, good engaging lectures although they are quite long. Attendance in the class is mandatory but it is one of the best lectures you'll have. He teaches with powerpoints and all you have to do is memorize those for the exams.
Mark Mosciki is such a good prof. Seriously; he's funny, easy going and an overall easy exam maker. He is really there to help you do well: he loves what he teaches and wants you to love it too! The essay is not a worry whatsoever, just pick a topic you're interested in and it's super easy! This class was amazing; I don't want it to end. Take it:)
Moscicki had amazing lectures and gave lots of opportunities for high grades on in class assignments and quizzes. However, his exam and midterm were nearly impossible. He tested on the most irrelevant facts. I studied like crazy and never missed a class and still did absolutely terrible on them, and I typically get 80+ on everything I do.
I didn't finished the entire course yet at the current period. The 10% of the participation mark is easy to get for sure. All the quiz and the assignment is super easy and just need memorization. However, the midterm is really hard and it drops me from 90% overall average to 62% at the current stage for almost everything before the final exam.
He gives lots of marks that can be an easy 100. He is a fair prof and the exams are easy
I took this course because I was interested to learn more about Canada's geography. This is more than Canada's basic geography. It covers a lot more. Canadian history knowledge is very important. If you are not from Canada or have not taken geography in high school I won't recommend it. It is not a bird course.
This is my 2nd class with Mark and he is a awesome lecturer. The content for Geo of Canada is quite dry but he makes it interesting. Lots of marks earned in class with activities and weekly quizzes. Exams are detailed heavy but if you're good at memorization theres no tricks on the exams. Overall a bird course if you put in the effort & go to class
the essay was easy, but this by no means is a "bird course". the exams included short answer that was sometimes hard to recall at the top of your head and was marked pretty hard. the content wasn't interesting either. overall an okay course but I wouldn't take it again.
Mark is one of the best professors I've had in uni! He's extremely caring and shows it by wanting everyone to do well in the course. He gives very easy marks in class. Notes and reading sections are all given and no need for extra work. Had him for 2152 last year which was also great and took this course just for him! Truly a gem
Mark is such a great prof! he cares about students and is passionate about what he teaches. He is very approachable and reasonable. 10/10 recommend.
This prof choose to post PDF lectures instead of posting recorded PowerPoints, which screams laziness to me and that he doesnt care about students learning experience. Assignments did not relate to lectures and no feedback was received. The course is alright but the exams were too detailed. Wouldnt recommend this prof
Prof. Moscicki is a good prof and lecturer. I took his class in the summer session and I really enjoyed it! He posts pdf lectures every week and they are easy to read and make notes. The essay is in your choice of hazard and midterm/final exam were a little bit difficult but still manageable to get 80+. I would recommend this class
Here are a few facts about the course: 1. Mandatory sign-in for every class (requires a subscription fee of several dozen dollars, which actually not optional according to the syllabus) 2. In class essay 3. ppt with Fill in the blanks, keeps you busy since all he gonna do is to read though it really fast. 4. HARD EXAM AND ESSAY GRADING
Good overall prof. Lectures were interesting but hard to learn when your scrabbling to fill in the PowerPoints. When you review your notes everything is pretty straightforward. Labs are kinda tough but TA's offer good help. You do have to pay for a mindtap subscription which sucks. Exams are somewhat hard but are doable if you study.
He's a great professor and makes 3 hour lectures engaging and fun. There seem to be a lot of people who don't like him in the course (based off what I hear in class) but those are the ones who took 2010 as a bird course and expected it to be a breeze. He responds to emails despite having 400 students in this course alone and is super helpful
It doesn't matter how hard you study, his exams are nearly impossible. He tests you on the most random facts that weren't even mentioned in the lecture notes or textbook. Literally don't even bother studying for the exams because nothing you study will be on it. Don't take this class, it's not a bird. Also the final was cumulative.
Easy participation marks each class, straightforward content, interesting lectures. Unlike some of the other posts, I found the fill in the blank slides easy and not difficult to follow. Overall a great prof and course.
The labs were more difficult but overall a good course. Prof makes content easy to understand and does a really good job at reviewing concepts before exams.
Dr. Moscicki's lectures were fantastic to listen to, and he is very knowledgeable about the topic he's teaching. I find the reviews bashing him for testing "irrelevant topics" to be unfounded, as he makes it very clear that it will be on the exam. The course is 100% bird (as is with most geo courses), and I would take his course again.
Every other week, you have to print off a map of a province, and remember every single major city, river, lake, peninsula, and bay. If you have a photographic memory you'll do great, but I hated it. Class attendence is totally mandatory as there will always be some form of grade weight involved during a lecture, and pp slides go by extremely fast.
Good teacher and makes class engaging!
Do not take this class if you are thinking of a bird course. The exams are pretty hard and you will have to study a lot just to get a 70-80 range. Otherwise is a good professor, makes the class engaging by various activities, forum postings and videos
PREPARE TO STUDY EXTREMELY HARD FOR THIS COURSE IF YOU WANT TO EVEN GET A 75+. Professor is great, lectures are okay not too boring but this is an extremely content-heavy course and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have photogenic memory. He tests you on the most random things and the exams are cumulative. good luck.
Very tough course you really need to put lots of effort to get a 70%-75%!!!!!!! Get ready to read and memorize crazy specific facts. TRICKY EXAMS
Professor Moscicki is a great man! His lectures are fun and easy to follow. The course content is interesting. If you study and put effort into the course you can achieve 80s easily. The labs were a little bit difficult, so make sure that you are working with good group. TA was not helpful at all and did not understand the questions that is asked
I took this class as elective in Summer 2021 and it was a perfect mark booster! There are weekly forums, quizzes and assignments that you can get a good mark on it. The essay demands your time but still you're flexible in topic that you choose. Midterm and final exam was a little tricky and specific. But still manageable to get 80s
The lectures for this class were jam-packed with content each week which was mind-numbing at times. Also, you MUST go to lectures because there are labs each week. TAs are actually useful and don't know what's happening. He seemed nice but I didn't really get a chance to get meet with him due to the sheer amount of people that took the class.
I found the lectures to be very engaging so it wasn't a big deal that attendance was mandatory. All assignments are done in class and are easy marks. The exams basically copy and paste lecture notes so as long as you study those you're good. My midterm was marked unfairly by a TA and he was happy to remark it and responded quickly to my emails.
Mark changed my life. There was nothing and then there was Mark. I know what kind of precipitation to expect where I go and learned to classify soils, a skill I use daily as an amateur explorer. I think about Mark at least once per week when I reflect on what my life means as a Canadian. Mark is the most inspiring man I've ever met.
Prof Moscicki is a great prof! Interesting course content and really engaging lectures!
Cool prof and interesting class, but this is NOT a bird course. Attendance is mandatory (in-class assignments) and the exams are painful. Be prepared to memorize a whole semester of random science facts for short answer and fill-in-the-blanks!
I love this professor. His classes are so engaging, even if you think you won't like geography you'll end up paying attention. Exams were very specific and how well you'll do depends on how much you can memorize. He does give a break down of what the exams will test on so that makes it easier. Overall, great course and prof.
took in the winter semester. mark is so funny. mark never asks u stuff u haven't seen before. mark will make a test u can use pure memorization on. make an anki deck, get a 90. goated.
I took this course thinking it would be an easy essay bird course... oh boy was I wrong. If you want to do well it is a large time commitment. Lectures are absolutely mandatory because you will lose marks if you don't go. I found the essay was marked pretty harshly but that depends on ur TA. If ur not in geo i recommend looking for another bird
He was so great. Through the group work and the question sets, I was always engaged in his lecture. He knew about the get people excited about what we were doing. The tests were fair.
I wasn't super excited about geography, but Mark is a very engaging professor that makes the 3-hour lectures fly by and makes you love geo. You definitely have to put the work in, spending time memorizing lots of geography facts, but the all assessments are very fair with no surprises if you pay attention as Mark is very clear about expectations.
passionate prof, fair exams, might be slightly on the difficult side for a bird but an interesting course overall
Amazing professor. Very straightforward expectations for test materials and essay requirements. This class is the only 3 hour class that I didn't get bored in. He is a passionate professor which showed through in his lecutres. He is happy to help students and answers emails quickly. Overall, take any course you can with him!
Amazing professor! Made lectures interesting! The final was difficult and long but there was plenty of opportunity to gain marks throughout the course. Great class overall!
Online was so hard. The exams were all proctored and long. You had to memorize specific details and were expected to type in long answers in exams. There was a quiz, assignment, and discussion forum weekly. can not be late to submit any work because he gives back grades in a day. you also have to email him to choose a topic for essay.
defending this guy with my life ong the most passionate prof I ever had. makes the lectures fun, midterm was hard but in-class activities add up to 30% so can easily boost grade. you have to show up to get the participation grades, but honestly worked out because he made the class fun and understandable. thanks again goat
Mark is the best geo prof ever. 10/10 would take again. Also a dilf so that helps.
I took two courses with Mark, Geo 2010 in Fall 2023, and Geo 2152 in Winter 2024. He is an amazing prof, and really makes the lectures fun even though they are 3 hours long. I highly recommend both these courses with him!
Lovely guy who clearly puts a lot of time into making the course refined, interesting, fun, and well-structured. Lectures are the highlight of my week! Easy 80+ if you put in work. Also accessible in office hours and fair when remarking things. Highly recommend.
This is not a bird course, you must attend all lectures because 30% of your grade is coming to class and doing the activities. He puts stuff on slideshows you won't know unless you attend lectures. Exams are multiple choice and written, and he is very specific on the multiple choice. You will have to remember small details so pay attention.
As long as you show up to all lectures (participation + quizzes add up to 30% of grade) then you should easily be able to achieve an 80. Exam MC q's were a bit harder than expected, but the other assignments and activities are pretty basic and should help balance out a low score for either a midterm/final. Prof put a lot of effort in class, respect
Mark is an absolute beauty. Do not listen to people saying his course is tough and it's not a bird. Yes they are right, it is not a bird, but if you put some time to do the work a week you will be ok. He makes the content easy to understand and fun to learn. If you are an AEO student and need a high grade- TAKE THIS COURSE
He's the best professor i've had since i've been here at this school
This prof is kind & is knowledgeable about the content. Students are limited because slides are not provided before/after class (have to attend), moves through content rapidly switching from quizzes - discussion posts - slides - tophat Q's. Not conducive to neurodivergent/ESL student success. No details on syllabus for projects. Hard to succeed.
so hard, do not select !!!
Absolute GOAT
Do not expect this to be a bird; MM is an awkward lecturer who's criteria for grading papers is vague, remote, and hard to understand if you aren't a geography student. If you happen to be a Geo major, I'm sure you'll find this course interesting. If not, get ready for a 2 hour snooze fest every Monday night. Don't expect an easy exam either.
Great prof all around. His enthusiasm for what he teaches about made me excited to go to each lecture.
Took this as an elective to accompany by 2nd year med sci courses and I don't regret taking this class! I learned so much knowledge I probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere, and studying for exams was a breeze. The course work is heavy, especially with multiple essays so if you struggle with time management beware. Overall great class!
This course is not a bird i'm literally fighting for my life trying to figure out how tornadoes are formed pls take an easier bird i promise this is not it
Incredible prof! Clearly really wants his students to understand the content and succeed!
Not gonna lie, this course is not a bird at all. The content is very heavy and you need to attend every lecture for the participation marks, and they are 3 hrs long... Besides the course needing a good amount of time to work on, the professor seems like a good guy and he is pretty nice. The exams are not easy.
This is not a bird. tsooo many things to do every week for it and you have to be in class to do good. he doesnt give u the info on the slides so u have to go. I dont like how he made the final cumulative and put all the readings and maps on it. just too much its like he thinks we have only his class. mark ur just doing wayy too much.
Nothing wrong with the teacher, he really cares about what he teaches and wants people to learn, so I respect that. But taking this as an elective is a bad idea, you have to go to every class, at least 20+ iClickers each class, on top of in-class assignments. Bringingg down my average and i really regret taking this course for that reason lol
Amazing professor. Super engaging. 25% of your grade is a guaranteed 100% as long as you go to class. If you treat the exams like any other exams you will get 90+! Love the class. Love the Prof.
everyday i wake up and wish i didnt join this class.
He is to demanding and final was cumulative. 8 maps to know for final and readings. bad class. he is way to demanding. You won't pass if you don't go to class.
omg i'm back pls do not take this if my first warning wasn't enough - this is NOT a bird - mark is so nice but genuinely i'm fighting DEMONS trying to figure out the 14 types of volcanoes
studying for the final right now, i am actually in shock how much we are expected to know. I cant imagine the people juggling this with other exams, i am lucky its my only one right now and i still feel like i do not have enough time. i am actually just like wow. this is seriously extreme and extra for a elective course like..
Not a bird. Assignments were too hard and dragged my grade down. I was relying on my midterm and final grade to pull up my average. This exam did not need to be cumulative. Nice prof and super interesting lecture. Huge regret taking this. I think it took years off my life.
I have took the course in last summer, but i have the same pressure as the term with 5 courses. his exam is far away from his slides.
He's a great prof and explains things very well! I wouldn't take this as an elective cause there's alot of content, but if memorizing content is your strong suite then this class is for you. Exams were extremely fair and easy -you just need to study well. Content was very interesting, if you are in environmental sciences, this class will be great
Very fair professor who offers many opportunities for extra credit. He clearly outlines what is expected on assignments and exams. Exams are very content-heavy, and MC is quite difficult, but it's possible to do well on exams with lots of effort. Participation, iClicker, activities, and quizzes can make up for a mid-tier exam grade.
