He's a young guy who enjoys teaching. The tests arent too easy but they are standard across the board; theres nothing he can do about it. Just pay attention the day before the test and he'll tell you what to study. overall fun class. you can only miss two days though before you start losing points, but if you dont miss a single class you get 10 pts
Super easy. He acts more like a student than a prof. Take this class. He makes it super easy when it comes to speeches.
This class is standardized at Texas State, however he is one of the most fun teachers! He's young, very funny, & helpful if you need help. Go to class to get the extra credit. & do well on your speeches cause they help your grade out a lot!
He is a really great prof. he makes class fun and interesting all you have to do is attend class and do good with your speeches to get by. He's really helpful with everything!
He is a really great prof. he makes class fun and interesting all you have to do is attend class and do good with your speeches to get by. He's really helpful with everything!
He's an awesome teacher and reminds me of Jack Black, which isn't a bad thing. Speeches are super easy to get an A. The tests on the other hand, well as long as you study you should recieve a good grade
He is by far the best professor there is! I wish he was on full time because I'd take all his classes!
He is a very helpful professor. His lectures are clear and to the point. He has an awesome personality and sense of humor (: Take Comm with him will def not regret it!
Such a great teacher! He's really funny too and always adds humor into his lecture. There are parts that are boring though - especially beginning of semester but that's just because it's lecturing. I recommend him for sure.
This guy is hilarious, but very professional. He's not your average boring, monotone professor. He constantly made me laugh, but he makes EVERYTHING clear. Also very helpful. Great Guy
I loved him as a professor. He's a funny guy and I had him for a 3 hour class. I recommend taking him, you wont regret it!!
Paz is a cool guy. He's a good lecturer who can explain things simply, and he's funny and down-to-earth. The class itself is very simple, however the tests are department-wide and do require studying. There are three exams, then two speeches with only about a week in between. Make sure you're really well prepared for those because they happen fast.
Paz is a character. He's young, chill, hilarious, and informal. You can easily imaging him as an older friend outside of the class, so that is how he easily can relate to students, especially for a freshmen class. He is clear about topics and expectations and prepares you for exams, which is harder than his class.
Such a great guy, made a boring class interesting. He really cares about his students. The tests are hard but they're the same test course wide so there's nothing he can do about it, but he prepares you very well especially if you participate during the example questions in lecture they might just be test questions. Super funny guy and great prof!
One of the best professors I've ever had. He is super funny and outgoing. I had him for three hours on Wednesday nights and he made the class enjoyable. i would take him again if i could. Plus he is pretty hot so that's always a good thing.
Awesome and funny guy. Had him for a 3 hour night class and he still made it entertaining and fun for a non-communication major. His tests are based on situational questions.
Paz is a very chill professor. He's funny and understands how young college students work. His exams are made by the department and so the exams are not easy but no too difficult if you study. Paz is helpful and encourages you to do your best!
He's a great teacher. He's really funny and has a bit of a problem with language. Because my class was a lecture and lab in one, it was 3 hours long. He made it worth going to class and he made it interesting. His tests are pretty hard if you don't pay attention or don't study, but as long as you take good notes and study them, you'll be fine.
He is a very funny and down to earth guy! Will make you laugh and have a good time during class, the lectures are long but he try's to make them fun! All the tests for each section are the same, so he just went over what we had to know! Gave us acutal test questions as practice though! Great guy, would take again!
If you have to take comm 1310 at TXST then def take it with Mark! He is the best! He does all that he can to help prepare you for exams (which are made by TXST not him). He also will stay after to answer questions and help you out. Plus, he is just a really awesome professor. He is chill, funny, and does his best to keep you entertained. Take Paz!
Favorite professor I've had at Texas State by far. So funny and sweet and makes a boring class so enjoyable!! The tests are difficult but they're course wide exams. He prepares you as best he can for them and if you do the review in the guidebook you should be able to get A's on them! The speeches suck but he's an easy grader and such a great guy!
He was a good guy personally, but that class is so boring! he is a tough grader when it comes to the speeches and lectures get pretty long and boring. There are 3 tests and 2 speeches. The third test is the final which is cool. Use the workbook to study for tests because its hard and all real world based.
I would take him again in a heartbeat! Tests are standard throughout the department but he really helps you out grading wise when you do your speeches. I got a B in the course without putting in much effort. He is the best, and such a great guy!! Attendance is extra credit
Mark Paz is the reason I'm a COMM major. I'm honestly shocked he hasn't been picked up to become a full time professor at Texas State. He embodies the passion, and the intelligence necessary to provide an opportunity to learn. If you struggle, he will help. If you excel, he will make you better. Do not pass up an opportunity to take this guy.
Awesome professor! Super funny, always cracks jokes and makes class fun. Really chill and relaxed. Always helpful and responds to emails. Test can be tough, but he gives you reviews that are exactly like the test. Honestly, favorite professor I've taken at Texas State. Would definitely recommend and take again!!
Very good professor. Gives extra credit. Is very clear on what he expects in your speeches and in your group project. Very easy to talk to and is willing to help out. You also get ten points added to your grade if you are there everyday of the semester
If you have to a take a communications class definitely take him. He was a great lecture/lab professor. He makes lectures engaging and funny. You have two speeches, one individual and one group. He really helps the whole class with their nerves and makes everything much more laid back about public speaking.
Mark is a really great professor. This is a communications class so test are a little difficult and he has no control over that. But the assignments he makes, you should get A's or B's on. He's really funny and you'll enjoy going to class. I showed up every day cause he adds an extra 10 points to final overall grade. Take Mark.
Mark is THE best. I took his class bc of his ratings on here and he lived up to my expectations! Tests are hard, but he doesn't write them. 3 tests, 2 speaking assignments (one as a group), 1 easy paper, along with outlines. Perfect attendance is 10 EC points as well as doing the 3 reviews, which rlly helps w the tests. Amazing proff that is funny!
Mark is great guy and made a rather uninteresting course fun. You can tell he really enjoys teaching. Like any Comm 1310 class, you have 2 speeches and a paper. He gives a little bit of extra credit and is very understanding. He even wrote a letter of recommendation for me. Great guy!
Very funny professor. He makes his lectures very interesting. Test are very hard if you don't study. Even though this a communications class, it is NOT all common sense. Make sure you know the information and you should be good for the tests.
Mark was funny and down to earth. Really succeeds at connecting with his students and making the material personal to you. Only 2 speeches and the topics are super easy and fun and he makes the environment relaxed so you're not as nervous giving them. Tests are straightforward from the notes. Overall easy grade w/o having to put in too much effort.
Take him!! Such a good professor and super nice! All exams are through department so it's not on him! Take him!!
Take Mark!!! He is seriously amazing. I was assigned to him my first semester freshman year and immediately loved him and his class. It's the only class I never skipped because I actually enjoyed it (and he gives 10 extra credit points for perfect attendance). He's super approachable and never makes you feel intimidated or stupid.
So fun actually cares about his students, makes class enjoyable TAKE HIM
Take Mark for communications. Just do it, srsly.
One heck of a professor, awesome guy, very understanding
Take him!!! I promise you wont regret it! Such an amazing professor!! One of the best professors throughout the past two year at Texas state!
Got a B. He's a solid guy that wants you to show up and have good conversations. I would recommend him to most people. Personally not a huge fan of his grading system. If you do poor on a test, you better do amazing on the others or you may end up with a B like I did despite getting A's on every other assignment.
Mark Paz is an amazing professor who actually cares about his students passing. He's young and is very smart and wise for his age! True role model.
class is boring but Paz makes it enjoyable; tests are tricky but can easily get an A; extra credit for perfect attendance & completing test reviews; 2 speeches (1 solo, 1 group); final NOT cumulative; wants you to succeed; would definitely take him again; i never took notes or paid attention, just did test reviews and got an A
Professor Mark is super fun, I enjoyed taking his class. He makes class fun and interesting, he cares about his students and is will always be there for you. His test are not hard as long as you review your notes and STUDY. Take him! you won't regret it!!!
Mark Paz genuinely cares about what he teaches and the students learning the materials. He makes lectures fun & engaging & doesnt hesitate to say a bad word or two. Mark is clear on what he expects & wants to see from us in our assignments & test performances & by far one of my favorite professors ive had the pleasure of knowing
Mark makes you want to go to class. He is knowledgeable about what he is teaching & makes the content relatable. He is understanding and hilarious. He creates relationships with his students easily and allows for students to let their voices be heard. Make sure to study for his tests, because they are example based, not just knowing the definition.
Mark is understanding and considers the obstacles students face. He is knowledgeable about the subject that he teaches & makes his lessons relatable. He is absolutely hilarious. Be sure to study beyond the definition for his tests and know examples of the terms. He does provide a study guide to look over come test time. Take Mark, he is very loved!
Prof. Paz is so funny during lecture, its really easy to pay attention. He keeps things interesting. Easy class, speeches are required but are easy. Exams are like the review. Highly recommend
I really liked his lectures, but I didn't like my lab instructor which isn't really his fault. Lectures are a lot of fun and very interesting. He's probably the best comm intro to take from what I've heard. You have to buy the book for the workbook pages, but we never ended up using the textbook which sucked.
He is a very cool prof and is very fun but his lectures can be kind of boring. Sometimes they are entertaining and sometimes they aren't. I would take him again.
Mark is a great professor who really loves his job. He makes class interesting with stories and is a fair grader. There is a group project but he gives 3 class days to work on it. Attendance is a grade. MUST study for the tests but if you do they are easy to do really well on. Would recommend.
Mark is one of the best professors I've had at txst. He's very nice and I always payed attention in his class because he loves to make jokes and tell stories pertaining to the material. He will go above and beyond to help students with anything. You can tell he cares about his students and his class and it's such a great environment to be in
attendance gives extra credit. class is half lab/lecture. paz is a really cool guy and hes very funny but it depends on who you end up with as your lab instructor how well you will do in the class. most people probably make a's or b's anyway. lots of opportunity for extra credit and clear grading instructions! passed w/o the textbook
He is my favorite professor I have had at Texas State. If you study for the tests they are not hard but you do need to read the textbook some- most test info is in lecture. He makes lectures very interesting and funny. Attendance is required (after two absences it affects your grade-but he gives 10 pts extra credit if you get perfect attendance).
Mark Paz is one of my all-time favorite people. I took him for a class required by all freshmen, and thus not what he was used to teaching. While US1100 itself is terrible (though required), he made it so enjoyable, and I could not wait to go to his class. I would like to take his communications class at some point.
The class's material is fun and interesting. Mark and Galindo were great professors and tried their best to make the class fun. However, the grading system of the class is kinda off and you have to make sure to always get good grades cause even one bad grade can ruin your chances of getting an A for the rest of the course.
Great professor! Engaging and interesting lectures, super cool guy overall. You do need to attend class and you must have the book. I really enjoyed this class a ton. My lab instructor Maya Edwin was also incredible. I actually loved going to class and lab and the instructors and Paz really worked with us on the assignments. Nothing unreasonable.
I really enjoyed this professor, he's funny and his class is pretty easy if you do all the work. His lectures are funny and he enjoys teaching, would recommend.
Professor Paz is great! If you read, watch/attend the lectures, and submit assignments on time then you're bound to make a good grade. The Diversity Paper, Informative, and Persuasive speech aren't bad. He is good about responding to emails and being accommodating.
He is super nice and funny! He constantly reminds you about quizzes and assignments (needed because you can forget a lot). The assignments and quizzes arent difficult as long as you pay attention to lecture. I definitely recommend having him as a professor!
He is very nice and funny! He constantly sends out reminders about quizzes and assignments. The assignments and quizzes aren't difficult as long as you pay attention to lecture or read through the book. I definitely recommend having him as a professor!
He is a funny person and very nice. I love how he always sends reminders on what is due because it shows he truly cares about his students. Make sure you don't slack off because his class is a point system so every point counts if I didn't receive 2 points on something I would have ended with a B in his class so make sure you're on top of it.
He's fair, and a super nice guy. Weekly Quizzes require your attention, but should be ok if you prepare. Group work was annoying because my groupmates did less than nothing. All in all I'd definitely take a class from him again.
Most of your interaction will be with a TA. My TA was really picky and would deduct points over small things like words she did not like. Annoying ngl. Quizzes are from the book, the powerpoints really do not help. FOLLOW RUBRICS TO THE TEA unless you have a chill TA. 1 individual speech and 1 group speech, a lot of quizzes, and some discussions.
Prof Pazzie is the sweetest person! He is enthusiastic about communications and wanted us to do our best. There are two presentations and other small homework and quizzes. Basically, if you did the work you were bound to pass.
I was in an asynchronous class so didnt really get to know him or anything but the class in general was just fine. We had a lot of homework and the discussions were just tedious. It was alright though
He loves what he does and you can tell. He speaks with passion and he makes lectures funny and interesting. As long as you take notes or read the textbook, you'll do fine on the quizzes. Follow project rubrics and you should be golden.
Professor Paz is a very great lecturer and makes class fun, make sure to do the readings for the quiz and pay attention in lectures. Speeches aren't as bad as they seem!
Mark is soo freaking funny, the lectures feel long but he makes it worth it! He gives everyone a chance to speak, and the quizzes/projects arent hard at all. Love him!
Sometimes lectures feel long, but he keeps them entertaining. Class is based on lab instructor, mine was really sweet so it was great. Online quizzes every week based on the textbook. You have an Individual speech and Group speech which are most of your grade. No tests and final is optional. Super easy.
the quizzes are worth so much you need to read the textbook before taking them it makes a huge difference
He has two weekly quizzes that you need to read the textbook for, the lectures do not help. As far as speeches, he has one solo and one group speech that is presented during the lab section. Lab instructors are grad students that are very chill and understanding.
Mark is a chill professor. He makes his lectures entertaining, and it's obvious he knows what he's talking about. This class has a lot of online quizzes based off of the textbook that you NEED to take. Oftentimes he'd give us some answers in his lectures, but you still need to read. Lab instructors give extra credit, and the final is optional.
He really cared about each and every student in the lecture and you could tell.
Mark came in as a replacement from the other teacher and was better. The lectures can be boring but he makes them fun by adding in personal stories. Quizzes are really important and can be challenging. There are only two speeches a group and individual one and they are fairly easy. No final unless you want to its optional. Good professor overall.
Mark Paz is an extremely engaging lecturer and he is really funny! He really knows his stuff when it comes to the material we learned and he cares deeply about his students' success. He made a boring subject easy and fun! Be ready to have quizzes almost weekly on canvas, which you will definitely need to read the textbook or attend lectures for.
Paz was amazing. Assignments and tests were fairly easy, there is also 1 group project. He always makes his lectures interesting and funny.
Amazing professor. You can tell he really cares about his job and students. I genuinely enjoyed his lectures and actually got something out of this class. Didn't mind going to his class. If you do all the reading quizzes for the class, you won't have to take the final! Two public speaking projects and reading quizzes and that's about it.
Super funny professor. Assignments and quizzes were straightforward and correlated to the textbook. There are 2 speeches that are major grades, but other than that other assignments and due dates are on the rubric.
Hi, Mr. Paz's mom! I really enjoyed this class. Prof. Paz has a great personality, and (despite what others say) I think his relaxed nature when it comes to profanity helped make him seem more approachable and relatable. The textbook was free, so that was really helpful, and the quizzes/tests are easy as long as you have paid a bit of attention
Very easy class. The class consists of two presentations & 12 chapter quizzes. If you do have public speaking anxiety get ready bc you do have to present in front of the class. Attendance is mandatory as it is factored into the final grade. Other than that he's very funny & a great professor.
Lecture is so boring because he takes for ever just to go over like 10 slides but the class itself is pretty easy. Also there are 2 speeches you're supposed to do: 1 is a solo speech and the second is a group speech. So as long as you do all the quizzes and all the other assignments you'll be good.
Communication is a class I never really looked forward to; however, Mark (yes he prefers first name basis) runs his class like a down-right comedy show, but still keeps it extremely informational. Even though this class is required I had lots of takeaways that will help my future self. His lab instructors are also top tier from what I've heard.
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I cannot reccomend him enough. If you can take his class PLEASE DO SO. I swear he always taking my paper when taking notes but I forgive him haha. He is so funny and he makes lectures interesting. Wouldn't change him for nothing.
I am currently still taking this class but it is fairly easy all you have to worry about is time management, there are a lot of quizzes due every week but pretty easy, He does talk about interesting stuff and makes the class laugh sometimes but talks alott, you also have to present in front of your lab class but isn't to bad.
Lots of quizzes. Very long lectures but funny. You have to give a 5 min speech to your lab. It was an ok class, not terrible. Just kind of boring.
didnt like his TA but he is so funny and he does lecture quizzes but super easy. I would love being in his class and lab was nice but the TA again made it boring. Super easy to access outside of class and he really does care about everyone and is willing to work with you. you just need to show up and truly try bc he makes speeches easy
Take notes and you'll pass the quizzes. He's so funny which makes the class less intimidating. You have to give 2 speeches, one alone the other in a group. They are short speeches and very easy. Pay attention and actually put some effort and you'll be fine. Final is optional, so do good on quizzes.
Different assignments. Weekly quizzes. My friend took him for two different COMM classes. Always open to helping students. Don't miss the deadlines! Highly recommend.
Out of my years in college so far, Paz was my favorite professor. The lectures are interesting and enjoyable. He will work with you if put in the work. Do the weekly quizzes to increase your grade. As a communication major, I wish I could take him for every communication class I have in the future. He respects your time so show up and respect his.
This Class was the most structured class I had this semester. The work is pretty easy but the quizzes are 5-7 questions so they can make or break your grade. It's a pretty easy class and as long as you do the work and show up, you'll be fine.
His lectures were absolutely amazing. I would read the textbook before hand, but his lectures made me understand the concepts so much better. Would definitely take again. Definitely take notes and don't rely too heavy on the lectures for his quizzes because they have a lot of questions from the textbook.
Good class.
Good class and professor. Just look out and take good precaution for the chapter quizzes.
Mark Paz is one of my favorite professors I've had at Texas State. He teaches his classes very well and creates a great environment in his classroom. There's chapter quizzes, two exams, an individual paper and group project. Mark is personable with his students, he's a really great professor overall.
Super chill prof! Mark is by far the coolest professor I've had. Lectures are engaging & there was never a day I didn't laugh. As long as you communicate with him, he has no problem helping you. Exams are lecture based, SO GO TO CLASS!!! 10/10 recommend taking him!
Easy class! Mark is very fun during his lectures and the only homework is a 6 question quiz for each chapter we cover(they all make up your final grade). There is only 2 speeches(one by yourself and one with a group) and they are so easy. Really enjoyed the class
This class was very easy, and Mark made the lectures interesting even though the course info wasn't particularly challenging. He's very funny and encourages participation in the lectures.
Best professor I've ever had, very understanding, truly cares about his students and their learning. Super easy weekly quizzes (no more than 10 questions), discussion post or participation assignment each week. No exams.
Super funny guy, made lectures interesting. Show up bc attendance is mandatory. Lab instructor could make or break you though. Pretty easy. Do the readings bc the quizzes are personal to this class.
HE IS SO SWEET!!! I loved his class and never missed a lecture. He does assign two quizzes a week but they are easy. only 2 exams, a midterm and a final.
The group project at the end of the semester is rough if group members don't participate, and everyone gets the same grade for the presentation even if your group members mess up and you don't. I barely got an A for a required class that does not pertain to my major whatsoever. Paz is a great guy, but he needs to change that part of the syllabus.
Chill, funny guy.
Mr. Paz is awesome. super funny guy which makes it easy to pay attention to his lectures. grading criteria is clear and he gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. 10/10
Top tier professor
I recommend taking his class, you'll have a lecture day and a lab day but the lab day will be with a student teacher, and usually, their pretty easy graders when it comes to your individual and group speech. The quizzes I will say are so annoying it's one per week and they are kinda tedious, but you don't have to do super well on them to get an A.
Mark Paz has been my favorite professor. He is funny and knows how to interact with the students and keep them interested. He builds a relationship with the class as a whole and gives just the right amount of work. 10/10
Funny lectures and a caring professor. Your grade depends upon quizzes, which make up a lot of your grade, an essay, a speech, and a group speech. Most of your work is done in lab, which aids in grasping the material. Nevertheless, it is not hard to get an A; just show up and do the work.
Im so serious when I say he's one of the best professors I've ever taken. He has an amazing sense of humor, is extremely caring, and he wants every one of his students to succeed. His course load is not heavy, it's fun to read, and the quizzes are easy as long as you read the textbook. MARK you rock.
Mark had hilarious lectures and was understanding. There were few assignments and all of them had clear rubrics. Overall easy class.
The lectures with Professor Paz are entertaining and the material is fairly straightforward. While the weekly quizzes can be tedious, you don't need to ace them to get an A. I found unstuck AI and the provided textbook to be useful study tools.
Mark Paz as a professor is an amazing professor. His lectures are funny and I had a great time. HOWEVER, my Lab Instructor Caroline Williams made me HATE this class. She graded assignments months after they were due, was a harsh grader, and contridicted herself many times. Also another qualm about this class is the point system.
I've enjoyed all of my communications classes but Mark Paz just gets it. He is funny, caring, and overall a great teacher. He really wants you to learn and makes the material very relatable.
This is my second time taking this professor and I LOVE HIM!! He is such a sweet person and cares about his students. The lectures are engaging and help understand the materials easily. Overall it's simple if you keep up with taking notes on the chapters and doing the quizzes on time, the tests are not hard if you study with the guide he gives.
He was awesome! He cares about his students and his lectures are very interesting as well. He is also hilarious and makes you laugh during almost every lecture. His coursework is very organized and easy to follow, and he doesn't assign too much work at once.
If you need to take communication, take mark!! He's super funny and his lectures are super informative, would definitely take him again!! Instead of exams we take these short 5 question quizzes every week and they're pretty easy.
Take him if you can!! He made lectures fun by joking around with his students and he clearly explained every assignment. Most of the work in this class are quizzes (that you have to read the textbook to get a good grade on) and a few speeches, but if you read and prepare for speeches you'll be fine!
He only teaches the lectures, he's not really the actual person guiding class it's a TA. Class is pretty disorganized and rushed especially at the end of the semester, which makes it pretty hard to actually do good on the group projects. Also uses a lot of unprofessional language. There are other professors who are better.
Mark is the best!! You can tell he genuinely cares his students. There are reading quizzes, but as long as you pay attention in lecture or read the chapters you're sure to pass. He's so so funny would 100% take him again.
Paz is a great professor! His lectures are interesting and funny! The lab section is also fun. Overall, the class was very easy, and there was not a lot of work needed to be done
very good professor, extremely funny. Trust me, take this class.
His lectures were amazing with examples that were funny to help us remember some terms or ideas. He was very clear on grading and the lectures were well organized. He knew what he was talking about
Mark is an amazing professor. He makes the classroom feel comfortable which in my opinion helps the learning environment. His passion for communication really shines through his lectures. There are chapter quizzes, a project, a mid term, and a final. The amount of effort you put into the class is what you are going to get in return.
Professor Paz is my favorite professor that I have ever had!! He's super engaged with the class, and while class is mandatory, he gives you up to 4 free absences. He was a great professor who made me want to go to class because of his attentiveness towards the class and he's funny! Not a lot of homework, online quizzes. If you can take him, DO IT!!
Mark is a funny guy who consistently made lectures interesting. He was very lenient and accessible outside of class. Overall, I would highly recommend taking Professor Paz for COMM 1310.
I'm glad I was able to experience this course with Professor Paz as my instructor. He was so involved with the material he was teaching, it made the class more interesting. The professor also responds to your written assignments, which is very helpful to look back on and build connection.
Professor Paz was fantastic! My favorite parts were the labs and the lab instructors, but his lectures were hilarious and highly informative. You are mainly graded on quizzes, and there are two oral presentations (one solo and one group), and there's an optional final exam that drops all of your test grades. Take this guy!
This class shouldn't be graded on a point system but whatever
Mark has been my favorite professor I've had at TXST!! He is absolutely hilarious and makes the material and lectures so interesting and fun. I actually looked forward to going to his class, unlike my other classes.
