He's oddly confrontational. And I mean it in a respectful way. He goes up to you in ways that are questionable. And that's him personally. Viewing him as just a professor, I'd say he's got things to work on. I, myself, and a good amount of my peers discussed how much work we put in to prepare for his exams; and you can never be prepared. Womp womp

It was really weird how he would approach you in lab in regards to not showing up to lecture or selecting the wrong poll answer. He questioned my validity in attendance because I selected a different poll answer and I offered to show him my notes as proof that I was in class. He has a way of making you feel small.

Belittles students for not understanding "simple" concepts but refuses to explain them differently. The class was at 9 am and over the semester, students would stop showing up to lecture. The class is consistently half full by mid-semester, so don't worry about not getting a seat. He is petty and will remember little things to bring up later.

Throughout my entire school career, I've never had a professor I genuinely wished would quit. I'd rather be without a professor than have him. He doesn't teach; he expects you to learn beforehand, and we just do practice problems in class. I wish this guy would retire and go enjoy his life or something rather than torture us as a professor.

Worst professor (if you can even call him that) to roam the earth. Doesn't teach in lecture, just does polling problems, expects you to learn and understand just from pre-reading (you learn more from the reading that this guy). Will belittle & single you out, minorities beware, will speak condescendingly. Explanations to questions are useless.

Perks can be a bit quirky, but if you engage with his teaching methods, the class is manageable. Textbook is helpful, and Unstuck study is a great supplement for study prep. Stay focused, and you'll get through it.

Dr. Perks is a nice person and all, but his issue is with his exams. The exams are so hard, the material isn't that much of helping, and so is the univ's aid for learning. The extra credit is a joke and isn't helpful in any way except if you need few points for a letter change. There is a survey and students are blamed in it greatly.

I wish I could have avoided him after 102....but here we are. He has all the same problems (if not more) as he did in 102, his exam questions are abs wild and isn't very helpful inside or outside of lecture. this class' only saving grace imo was gierasch was also teaching it and the textbook was actually useful. Perks, I am BEGGING you, pls retire.

This man DOES NOT TEACH. You will learn entirely from the textbook. His exams are horrible but not as horrible as his attitude and extremely strict personality. Let me emphasize that HE DOES NOT TEACH. He only goes over practice problems in class, no background no nothing. Organic chem isn't even that bad, it's just the prof

Lectures focused on example problems with minimal content. Knowledgeable and experienced but had high expectations. Required videos were hard to follow, and he wasn't tech-savvy. Strong proficiency in prior material is essential. You must grasp concepts quickly, as falling behind can significantly impact your grade. HW/tests are intense and broad.

Dr. Perks isn't the best professor, but he gives a lot of ways outside of tests to get good grades. I found the midterms to be representative of the materials covered in the book and online videos. Chem 102 is difficult if you aren't good at math or didn't fully understand 101, but that isn't the professor's fault.

He's a good professor, that's about all I can say. His lectures and notes are accessible, he mainly just tells you what the textbook will, but in my opinion hearing him explain it is much better than reading the textbook. He cracks the occasional joke and he tries to immerse his students well in the class. Overall a good class experience.

He's actually an average professor but organic chemistry is a difficult subject. I think he got too much hate for doing his job and it's more of a problem that the subject has too much material and is complex. The lectures were kind of useless if you didn't learn the material beforehand. It would have been nicer to learn in class imo. Lock in.

Love Dr. Perks! I had him for 102 and he rocks 351. He is an enthusiastic and respectful chemist. There is so much to learn from him. Pay attention to every detail he says, do all the pre-lecture work, come to class with high understanding, ask questions and practice all the time until the exam. If you live in this course you have this!

Dr.Perks is a great professor! He really does care about the students. PRE READ the textbook or you wouldn't understand the lectures( HE WOULD TELL YOU WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE EXAMS)Lectures are practice problems and very similar to the exam questions. Practice, Practice and it is not that hard. He really does help out in office hours as well.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I do not care if you have to extend your degree by a semester to avoid him. He is the only professor I have ever earned a C from and I have had him for both 102 and 351. He expects you to learn the content from pre-lecture assignments and the textbook without him teaching and is dismissive when you ask for help.
