He is very unclear and makes multiple mistakes during lecture. He focuses on problem solving during his lectures, but his test are all conceptual.I would not recommend taking him if you want a better understanding of chemistry, buying the book would be just as beneficial.
Mark wants people to learn chemistry, and is very engaged and helpful. His tests are hard, and involve a lot of conceptual problems, but he curves them a lot. Super nice guy.
the teacher is extremely nice and personable. but i never learned anything in that class, i just read the book... the tests were slightly unfair since there were some weird questions. overall, not recommended.
Never emphasized concepts during lecture, but always had conceptual q's on test. Very helpful during office hours. tests are long, usually curved a lot, but only to a 75%.
i do not reccommend this professor. tests are all about concepts, which are explained poorly in lecture.
Pulls pictures from the book and bases his lecture off of them, while not covering mathematical concepts. Tests are random and expect a deep understanding of how Chemistry works in the outside world, while not testing concepts that are directly related to the course. Acts like he is still a Chem Engineer, instead of a teacher of BASIC Chem concepts
I was really dissapointed with this class. I found the lectures pretty difficult to follow and I wouldn't take Chemistry with this professor again.
Don't let all the Mark Peyron naysayers scare you away from taking his class. Yes his tests are hard, but I feel that I am much wiser in the ways of science after taking his class. If you want an easy A, don't take his class. But if you enjoy chemistry and you want to really learn more then by all means take the class. Plus he's a really nice guy.
His lectures are in powerpoint format and very difficult to follow. He is a new teacher, so he has trouble getting his teaching points across in a clear manner. His tests are often only remotely based on lecture topics, consisting of mostly new material that is at best slightly connected to the material covered in class.
Peyron is a wonderful teacher, and probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He is very helpful, but his tests are very hard. Lots of studying, but he is a very good teacher!
He's probably the nicest teacher on campus, But...I would not take him again. After bombing the first two tests, (which I logged in 30 hours plus studying for) thanks to doing well on the final, I will get a C. I would like to have this guy as my teach in perhaps 3 years, after he has changed his test formats. I did like his dumb roomate probs
He's awesome. I did not like his teaching style at first, but he completely changed for the class after most people did poorly on the first exam. He gave a quiz which he posted all the answers to on blackboard to help our grades and is ALWAYS willing to help. I worked almost every online hw problem with him. Really nice and keeps lectures fun!
After talking to friends who had taken earlier chem. classes and reading reviews online, I was worried. However, I ended up really liking his class and it wasn't near as bad as I was expecting. I mean, chem. 123 is challenging on its own, but Peyron really helped to make since of all the confusing chemistry. I would definitely recommend him!
Like most people say, he does give very hard tests. He is a very nice guy, extremely helpful . If you want to do good, just do the suggested problems he gives out and read the book. His lectures never put me to sleep, which is a plus!!
Dr. Peyron is one of those teachers who have test that usually the majority of the class fails, at least that was the case in my class. His tests are too long and have a lot of conceptual q's with lots of physics incorparated. And when he seldomly chooses to curve his test the usually are like an additional four points.
class was a breeze
Great professor, always very interested and excited about the topics he was teaching. The subject matter is NOT hard, but you do have to study a little bit to do well on the exams. Got an A- and never read the book after half-way through the quarter. Study the lectures and study guides and do just fine
Mark Peyron is a friendly and cheerful guy. His excitement about chemistry can really rub off on you. I would recommend using his office hours, he is genuinely interested in having his students learn the material.
He's a nice guy and actually wants people to learn stuff. Make sure to start your online homework early. The tutorial center is also great... The tests are tough and lab is a huge pain
Dr. Peyron might be the best science teacher I've ever had. He knows and is passionate about chemistry. Labs are long and boring, but at WWU, you're stuck with them. Mark greatly increased my respect for chem, and while the class was challenging, I learned so much that it was well worth it. I highly recommend chem with Peyron.
great teacher!
I have a huge amount of respect for Mark Peyron. He really puts a lot of work into his classes, and he also strives to make the class relevant. I am taking 123 from him now and he completely changed the way he gives exams, at the student's request. Now we have more exams but each exam only covers one chapter, which is WAY easier to prepare for.
found him very hard to understand, topics did not flow well, class was difficult and though he's "nice" he is a really flakely person and hard to follow
He is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. I look forward to having him every morning. He loves Chemistry and his energy floods into his students. He cares about his students success and puts a lot of effort to teach us to the best of his ability. He is also very attractive. I would recommend him to anybody and everybody.
Mark is honestly one of the most dedicated proffessors I had. He always makes time to meet with people outside of his office hours whether it's an inconvenience to him or not. He is so focused on people actually understanding and learning the material, he was great.
Great prof. He obviously cares about his students and puts in lots of time to make sure everyone understands. I would absolutely recommend him! I have a hard time understanding chemistry, and he has made all the difference.
Mark is more excited about chemistry and teaching than anyone I have ever met. He makes everything really clear and the class never felt rushed. Seriously, I'm sad I can't take him for 122.
Interesting to listen too.
Wonderful Teacher. Comes to class with a smile on his face every time. Very passionate about his teaching
He is really nice and understanding. He also will help you with what ever you need.
Mark is extremely nice and approachable. He's extremely passionate about science and makes lectures and labs as exciting as they could possibly be. There isn't a lot of reading at all. His study guides are lengthy but helpful. Great professor!
He is really nice but the class was completely unorganized. We didn't even get our grades from the first quiz during week 2 until dead week.
Peyron really enjoys teaching chemistry. He is always really enthusiastic in his lectures, even though the class was at 8 in the morning. Peyron did everything he could to help students succeed in the class, including having out-of-class Q & A sessions to help us prepare for tests. Also, the class was not a very difficult GUR.
I do not know if I have had a teacher so unclear and frustrating before. This is simply a warning, what you get out of this class really depends on luck. He is unorganized, half-witted and inattentive. You can take CHEM 101, but do not take it with him.
Mark is the best prof I've ever had. He really cares about his students' understanding of the material. The online HW sucked, but if you take your time and READ THE BOOK you'll do fine. His tests are easy if you...READ THE BOOK. This course requires work, but it's totally worth it. I recommend Mark for any chem class. Too bad he doesnt teach o chem
Peyron is a wonderful professor. Enthusiastic guy, always in a good mood, and always takes questions. Material is difficult, but he does tons of examples, so it's very important that you go to class. Intelligent and helpful, take Chemistry with him, you won't regret it.
Awesome professor. Extremely helpful if you have questions/go to office hours. Always has review sessions before tests. Gives out study guides and tons of practice problems. Very enthusiastic and funny! I highly recommend him as a chemistry professor- I had him for all of the gen chem sequence and i learned a TON from him!
Great professor!
Mark Peyron is the only reason I understand chemistry, and quite possibly one of the most enthusiastic and willing-to-help-you individuals I have met on this campus. He expects a level of intelligence from his students but he should, you're in COLLEGE.Ask questions, go to office hours, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS AWESOME REVIEW SESSIONS!
Mark is AMAZING. I am really bad at chem but I really enjoyed this class! He is SUPER helpful outside of class. Textbook is unnecessary but helpful. If you need to take a chem class take it from him! I am even considering taking another chem class just to have him as a prof again.
Awesome guy. He does a lot of examples in class. If he gives you worksheets/practice exams, DO THEM! his exam Qs are similar.
Came into Chem121 worried about the class because its one of the hardest entry level classes, Mark Peyron made it a breeze. He gives out tons of handouts and really easy to understand. Chem121 tests aren't too easy, but he covered topics well and there were no surprises, which was really nice. Definitely would recommend.
This material is not easy but he makes it fun and interesting. He always has relevant examples and they make the subjects much more enoyable and understandable. Take his class he will not let you down.
Mark is pretty much the best chemistry professor out there. He made taking Chem at 8 am worth while. He seems to really care about how students are doing, and is helpful beyond belief. His lectures are fantastic, though the slides on their own are close to impossible to learn from, so going to lecture is a must.
GREAT professor! wish I could take him for every chem course i need to take. Very fair grader, very interested in his students' success. doesn't make you feel dumb at all. Hope he gets paid more than the other, hugely inferior chem profs.
PEYRON=THE MAN, never again will I take chem from anyone else
Peyron is by far one of the better chemistry professors in the department. Always available for extra help and does study session weekly for students with questions. Never unclear about exam requirements and always provided plenty of study materials.
If professor Peyron was a sandwhich, I'd want him inside me. He is an awesome professor I took 122 with him and I'm gonna take CHEM 101 just to be in his class again!
By far my favorite professor. Skipping spring Chem 123 just because i didn't get into his class. Always availible for help. Tests can be hard. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS, All M.C. too. If you take him try to get him in lab too, he's extremely helpful, always well prepares you for labs. Nice guy and makes a point to get to know his students. Take Peyron!
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. Always available for extra help and super clear teaching style.
Peyron is god. His tests are definitely hard, he's aware of it and points it out all the time. But he's an amazing teacher and hes ALWAYS available for extra help. If you really want to understand the concepts take the general chem series from Mark.
Best Chem Prof for the gen chem series. Always available outside of class. He holds review sessions every week; the one that I went to, I was the only one that showed up and I got one on one help for two hours.
Took the accelerated Chem course this summer with Mark.He is a wonderful teacher who has high expectations of his students and cares greatly about their comprehension of the subject matter.Be warned: His tests are ridiculously hard compared to the rest of the faculty.
Best chem professor ever!! I had no hope in chemistry prior to his course; my previous professors had crushed my soul. Dr. Peyron changed all of that! He's so helpful, clear, doesn't over-complicate things, and is an all around great guy. It's not easy to get an A, but at least it's possible if you work hard and utilize his help.
I can honestly say Mark is one of the best science teachers ive ever had! Hes so passionate about chemistry and always there to answer what ever dumb question you might have. As far as the work , YOU HAVE TO WORK ON HIS HANDOUTS! WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THOSE YOU WILL EASILY FALL BEHIND! The work load isnt bad, as long as you UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT!
Mark is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very intelligent and helpful. The best thing about him is how genuine he is. He really cares about the success of his students. I am major in Chemistry because of this guy.
Mark is very helpful and makes lectures interesting with his jokes and sense of humor. He sets high standards on his tests but really wants all of his students to succeed. He provides lots of help outside of class. Best chem teacher!
He really wants you to succeed. His tests arent too bad (but chem stinks), multiple choice and some calculations at the end. He is so understanding and sweet. He does sort of expect you to know a little bit going into class sometimes. He is corky! I wish he was teaching 122! i need him!!! And ps...I thin its rude when ppl pack up when he is talking
Peyron is such a dedicated professor to his students. He pushes all of his students to work hard and do their best. He is a very approachable guy if you ever need help (go visit him during office hours!). He also holds Q&A and test review sessions which were extremely helpful! Overall, study and go to class and it will seem like an easy A class.
Professor Peyron is awesome, he's super smart and helpful and has a genuine interest in what he's teaching.
Has the ability to make the most boring subjects enthralling and is great at explaining complex concepts. I highly recommend
Mark is an awesome teacher, he makes sure you know when assignments are due and makes class worth going to. If you pay attention in class and do the homework soon after class you should do well on it. I had the 8am but it wasn't hard to go. He makes you work for your grade but his tests are on exactly what hes been teaching.
take chem 121 with him if you can. super nice, very helpful, very fair.
Peyron is the man for CHEM 121. I wish I had him for all of General Chem because he is honestly the best prof to have! He is a dedicated prof to his classes and wants his students to succeed. He has Q&A and test review sessions which are very helpful in prepping for exams. Tests are straight forward and pretty easy if you study and go to lecture!
take this professor you wont regret it
Awesome professor. Couldn't have done a better job organizing the class. Very helpful.
Peyron is a great teacher, very organized, and very intelligent. Test are extremely difficult!! I did well on hw and labs but failed tests and my grade struggled because of this. Beware of that, but otherwise this class is worth taking!
Peyron is the best Chemistry professor for 121 at WWU! He is so smart, interested in chemistry, and helpful. Just a nice guy all around. The class is hard, but every chem 121 class is...
Peyron is a really nice professor, but he probably shouldn't be teaching an introductory class. He often assumed that we knew what he was talking about, and I would be completely lost (and I took chemistry in high school). Budget cuts=lab every other week, but there is online hw to compensate for it. He gives study guides and has study sessions.
Peyron is hot.
Mark Peyron is a great prof, but you have to know coming into any chem course that the MATERIAL is difficult. As a prof, Mark is very knowledgable and helpful. Also, if he meets you once, he will remember your name and help you forever. His lectures are fun because he is so nerdy and truly cares about how his class is doing. Great prof, HOT!
Really good guy and great professor. Explains things thoroughly. I managed to get away without using the textbook in 121 (also had it with Peyron) but I found it to be more necessary in 122. He gives out lots of worksheets that serve as great study guides and has straightforward tests. I'd recommend him to anyone taking the general chem series
GREAT prof!! his lectures are fun and interesting. Chem is a generally hard subject and 122 is more math based, which is good. There's so much material that he can't go over everything, so get more details from the book. Tests are pretty straight forward but still a little challenging. Labs and hw aren't bad, but take this with a friend if possible
I had Mark for chem 121 and 122 and he got me to like and enjoy chemistry, WHILE I worked very hard only to get a C. Basically, he is a very high quality instructor and I would highly recommend him if you're up for the challenge. Mark Peyron for the win.
Good professor, very passionate about the subject and makes lectures engaging. Tests are straightforward but can be tricky due to multiple choice bait answers. Sometimes the lectures can get a little confusing as he jumps around a bit. You will need to study a great deal to get a good grade in the class.
Peyron is top notch. He's very passionate about chemistry. His multiple choice test questions tend to include answers which are caused by common mistakes, so be careful. He even asked me what I thought of the final test after taking it, which shows he cares about what the students think. Don't expect an easy A, but you will do well with him.
Dr Peyron is an amazing professor. Chem122 is extremely difficult, but he did things Ive seen from no other professor- grade estimators, worksheets with written answers, extra help with the specific student-difficulty topics, assisted in lab. However I only got a C with hours and hours of consecutive studying each week. An A seemed impossible
One of the best if not the best professors at Western. Smart professor who really understands/values the importance of a students time, which is important! Analitical is a huge work load. Many labs = many lab reports, and all on top of lecture. However, Peyron was willng to push back due dates and always willing to help, making life so much easier.
This class was crazy. Too much was expected of everyone, both the students and Peyron. He was flustered the whole way through, and so were we. Learned a lot about lab, didn't learn much about analytical. Rough class. I don't think it was necessarily his fault, but it wasn't fun at all. HUGE TIME SUCK!!!!!! Take this class with easy classes!
Mark is an awesome teacher. Super reasonable tests and great lecture. He is always a available for help and takes great interest in his students. Definitely on the lookout to take him again.
Mark was one of the nicest and most helpful professors I've had at Western. He genuinely wants you to succeed in his class. Unfortunately he hadn't taught chem 123 in a few years and was all over the place in his lecture. Tests were fair and often curved, but if I had to take the class again I would probably choose emory
Mark was absolutely amazing!!! He's super nice and very helpful! I would definitely take a class from him again!!
I have been so blessed to have Professor Peyron for Chem 121. He sets very clear guidelines, gives engaging lectures, and has a real knack for teaching and a vested interest in his students. I'm so excited to take Chem 122 with him this next quarter! If you get the opportunity to take a class with Peyron, DO IT!
Mark is such a wonderful teacher and a great person. He is always willing to help and he explains things very well. He is great if you have him for the lab too, and he helps you understand difficult concepts!
Professor Peyron is seriously the best! He provides you with so many resources and is willing to help you any time you ask. He is very interesting to listen to, and is really passionate about chemistry and his job. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him if you get the chance.
Good guy. Like chemistry but maybe likes chalk more.
Mark is a nice guy and very passionate about chemistry. However, at times he would focus on the simple topics for an extended amount of time, and then rush through the more difficult topics. This class is not easy, but if you attend class, do your homework, and put in sufficient effort, you should be fine.
Peyron was so helpful! he gave us all these handouts which the other chem profs didn't. All the handouts are the best possible practice and if you do those you should definitely do well in the class.
Dr. Peyron is super helpful both inside and outside of class. Chem122 is really hard, but if you utilize your textbook and go to lecture you should have an okay time.
Mark is a really great professor and is willing to help you understand difficult concepts. This class felt a little bit rushed towards the end, but he only tested us on the main topics we covered. This is a difficult class, much harder than Chem 121 but if you go to class and office hours and do the worksheets you should be fine.
Peyron is dedicated, passionate, and always available to give out extra help. By far one of my favorite professors at Western. He provides the class with more than enough resources to succeed in the class as long as you put in the time. He will go out of his way to help you with any issues.
Peyron is incredibly passionate about chemistry and it's obvious when he lectures. His lectures are somewhat confusing and he can move pretty quickly sometimes. He's a great professor, but the class is difficult
Peyron is an awesome professor who clearly cares about his student's grades. However his lectures are sometimes a little messy and difficult to follow.
Very helpful and nice. Frist class in the engendering department and was not prepared for how much work it was going to be. He didn't assign the final project tell the middle of dead week and we are having a 20 question comp final. He would say he was going to get us an assignment or study guild out to do the next day then wouldn't get it for days.
Worst professor I've ever had. Doesn't really teach the material well. Maybe he's good with chemistry, but he doesn't understand how to teach Design of Experiments.
Mark is a great professor and really tries to get students engaged with learning. Most of his lectures are very clear but sometimes he goes fast. He is a very tough grader so you must be exact with your answer but his exams are fairly straight forward so it evens it out.
Mark is a great guy. He's super nice and I really enjoyed him as a professor. Sometimes he is unclear as to what he wants from us on group projects and then we end up busting our butts at the last minute to get it done, but overall he understood that it was an intro to engineering course and was pretty laid back. I would take his class again.
during the first week of class we did homework that we didn't get back until dead week. This pretty much sums up my experience of this class. Their was almost no clarity on what was required and the class was very disorganized. Aside from this Mark is a great guy. Would reccomend this class if you want an easy A.
Mark was a great professor. He gave plenty of handouts and review sessions. Intro to chemistry is a little bit tricky but as long as you put the work in its fine. Also very friendly in office hours even though I know its a bit of a drag for professors to go over basic chemistry again and again
A lot of assignments, not great instructions for them. Nothing got graded until the quarter was over.
He constantly complained about his workload, gave very boring lectures, unclear about when something was due and what was required for his assignments, he didn't grade anything till a week after the quarter was over, and on top of that graded relatively harshly. I usually get A's and his class was not even that hard.
The professor often does not grade homework until the end of the quarter. Grading is very harsh, especially on quizzes. He has a good positive outlook when teaching and can be very flexible. He does not provide answers to things, expect a brief review in class.
The professor is disorganized, with late grading and unclear assignment instructions. However, his lectures can be helpful if you stay engaged. Use resources like Unstuck AI to prepare for the harsh grading.
