Dr. Pingle is awesome. He is always willing to help out of class and really tries to help you understand the concepts.
The class could me easy if you have no other classes to take. The tests are hard and you need to study a lot because of the materials. The subject is just a little confusing..so you need to work hard.
He's nice guy. Easy in that doesn't require much day to day. But have heard tests are scary. Information a bit confusing. Somewhat laid back. Just okay. Not one of my favorite teachers, but a nice guy. I was in a large class and hate economics, so am biased.
He makes this class harder then it is..
Very nice guy and teaches his classes with the most excitment possible (especially for courses in economics). Fair class, study hard and well, and ask questions and you will do fine.
Total economics nerd. He's interested in what he does, but the books he wrote for the class weren't very good. They more or less serve as lecture notes for the class, so if you know when tests and assignments are due it's easy to learn everything from the book. Pure memorization for the tests - very little logic involved. Rambles a lot.
he is very helpful
Okay, apparently this school is staffed by idiots. This class was easy and fun, no trouble, I breezed through it. He's a good professor, helpful, and praising of qualified students.
Truly dedicated to economics.

An interesting class, very involved. Pingle is actually kinda boring, but the more you keep up on reading, the more you can get into it and avoid falling asleep.
Confusing and boring. Makes econ class seems very hard.
material isnt too hard, subject is a little boring @ times but he does a good job with it
Dr. Pingle is a great teacher...He gets his info out in a clear/concise manner...if you study and pay attention, you'll have no problems passing his class.
Love his teaching style. Tests are hard if you don't pay attention and come to class (i know). If you don't start paying attention the first day, you could very well be lost the rest of the semester.
He is a great professor! His class was very difficult in the beginning of semester, but it challenged me to study more deeply..and it was worth...also he loves to help us all the time...
This class is one that I will use for the rest of my life. Dr. Pingle explains everything with great clarity and enthusiasm. Highly recommended for those interested in the subject, but not sure if you want to pursue it as a major/minor.
This man is a horrible instructor. He times his rediculous quizzes and makes the damn questions so hard it will take you 3x that amount to even complete the quiz and if you don't complete it on time you get marked down!
This man is horrible. He gives out extremely unreasonable assignments, and on the tests, he expects you to know specific figures of one graph out of 30. I'm not talking trends people. i mean the actual numbers of graphs. He's ridiculous. And he posts quizzes on the stupid ass WebCT, then does not mention them in class. Do not take it from him
All I can say that that unless you are a finance major this class is useless. I haven't learned anything that I'll be able to use for my degree. Prof. Pingle has not really changed my perspective on Macroeconomics, I would not recommend this class.
Good guy. easy to relate to. good personality. He gives you a lot of opportunities to bring up your grade.
His teaching is good, though his notes and inclass discussions can be a little unorganized.
notes are pointless. exams are short answer. he expects you to use certain words when answering and even if you get the concept but don't use the "certain words" you get points off. horrible.
This was a very unorthodox class. The guy does assign rather hard work and he does not make the material as interesting as it can be. surprisingly I would recommend the class though. Once you figure the guy out out and make sure you study the concepts the class becomes rather easy. he also gives opportunities to improve grades
At first, i absolutely hated this class. He can be kind of scatter brained and can go off on tangents and never get back to the original point. over all though the class was good. Tests aren't too hard if you study and the few assignments you do are pretty easy.
Pretty Basic Class..Just learn terminology and use logical thinking..
Pingle's class was one of the most interesting classes I have taken. Every class period was usually really fun and relevant to life. He really loves teaching, and he makes sure you know what is important for exams. He really got me interested in Economics. It's easy to get an A if you try. Quizzes are cake. Exams are not bad. Take him.
Pingle wants you to learn and makes himself available for questions and stuff. I didn't like the quizzes online because you were only allowed 10 minutes...unless you knew everything from that chapter, you were screwed. Tests were a little hard too specific for the basic idea. wasn't hard wasn't easy
This class was fairly decent. One of the more organized classes i've been in at unr. Quite boring for the typical nevada student, but to a trained ear this man gives some very good ideas, insights, and information. I liked it. It was ECONOMICS, yet it was'nt as hard as I thought it should be, but I still learned alot. I recommend.
Professor Pingle is an amazing teacher who is clearly passionate about what he teaches. He really wants students to do well and is approachable. He puts a lot of information on his tests but tells you exactly whats on them. All you have to do is study and you'll do fine! Great lectures.
Pingle is an extremely level-headed dude. He is reasonable, helpful, and fair. If you like econ he will get you started thinking about stuff that would have seemed unreachable before his class. If you don't like econ, his expectations are very clear and tests straight-forward. General ideas and concepts are key, with some stats sprinkled in. TAKEIT
He is not very good at teaching. He jumps around and won't stay on a subject to finish it. He just asked questions and lets the students answer. Most of the time it's not the answer he wanted. It's very hard to learn that way. The worst part is when you go to ask him questions, he won't answer them; instead he'll just insult you.
Such a great guy. He really cares about his students. If you are struggling, go in to talk to him and he'll do everything he can to help you.
Very good teacher. Tries to make everything as clear as possible in an Economics class. Do go to class! It is easy to get by without, but when it comes to the final, you will need all of those notes. Don't miss the day before the test and go to test review sessions by TA.
Not the greatest professor. I enjoyed my 102 class more and the professor isn't even rated. Pingle has a monotone voice which puts you to sleep. Books are cheap, as he writes them. Study helps with what to expect, but then the exam was totally different from the study guide. Quizs are easy to pass, assignments are hit or miss, same with exams.
I have taken Pingle's 103 and 303 class and would recommend both. He is straight forward, clear, and concise in his expectations, grades and assignments. One of the most helpful professors in and out of the classroom. If you are falling behind, ask for help. If you are ahead, ask for help. If you aren't in his class, ask for help. Great guy.
This class is fairly easy. There is no homework and only 2 take- home midterms. There is no textbook for this class. He is sometimes funny, but a lot of the time his jokes make no sense. He is very willing to work with you. Speak up in class- it will help your grade. The material is sometimes difficult to understand but you will definitely pass!!!!
Nice guy but tends to ramble on. His class is pretty boring. He uses his own text book which is good because its only 25$
This class is not easy but Mark Pingle is probably the nicest guy on campus. His tests are hard but as long as you study the statsbook and understand the material you should be fine. There is only 3 assignments the whole semester and taking notes is a must so go to class as much as you can! I would recommend this teacher for sure!
Best class and professor I've taken at UNR and I don't even like economics. Pingle makes everything easy to understand and gives many opportunities for you to improve your grade. This class is a lot of work, but if you're willing to put the effort in, you will learn a lot.
This might just be me, but when he teaches, he usually makes sense, but when you review what he's taught, you're like, "Whaaaa??" His class is pretty challenging, and if you aren't enthusiastic about Economics, then it's worse. I really felt that I could have gotten more out of the class if I had entered it with a basic understanding of economics.
His expectations are way to high. Grades are harsh. I studied for 6 hours and only received a 77% on a midterm. He will tell you he will be easy on you for something and you get your work back and it's the thing he graded the hardest. 3 test, a few surprise homework, a few quizzes on online videos, and a large regression project. Not my favorite.
Pingle is a really smart professor, but sometimes it's a little hard to understand him. Some of the material is hard and so are his tests. On his tests he asks you to analyze several situations and graph them out. Also, you have to repeat facts from his stats book, such as the normal growth of the US economy. Overall, I would recommend taking him.
The best professor hands down. Very helpful, knowledgeable, understanding, easy grading (curve)and overall interesting class.
Pingle is a great guy, however his teaching style of economics is not great due to his mono-tone voice. Tests are worth a large percentage of the grade and they are all hand-written analysis. Overall only pick him for econ 103 if you have no other option due to his excessive work load for a 100 level class.
One of the best Econ Professors at the school. Very easy to talk to!! Puts some personality and stories into his lectures. Always eager to help if you ask. Definitely take him if you get the opportunity!
The lectures are long and his grading criteria was not clear. The entire semester you'll wonder what your grade was. It wasn't a bad class, but it sure was stressful up until the point when the grades were posted!
Everything in this class is short answer. Tests are tough but he gives a practice test that's basically the same thing. Lectures are boring and participation is part of your grade.
Professor Pingle was a very boring teacher. He is mono tone and his lectures are just really boring, The good thing is though you only have three homework assignments all year. Also, you do not have to go to class the whole unit besides the one review day before the test and test day. The tests are all free response but an A is possible.
I would steer away from this teacher as much as you can. This is probably the worst teacher I have ever had. He is so unclear and you have no idea what your grade is. His lectures are terrible and the tests are nothing like the lectures or study guides. I learned more from studying for 2 hours before tests than I did all year.
Just go to class. Thats it.
I would not wish Pingle's class upon my worst enemy. Lectures are worst than combination of Iggy and Justin Bieber singing. Our his test tough you might ask? Well is the sky blue?! Who know what goes into Pingles head when grading. Pingle and his 10 question tests is lower than pond scum. I havent bombed a test like his sense hiroshima.
Professor Pingle is very helpful and willing to work with you if you dont understand the topic. He is easy to approach and always very friendly. His lectures are long, but he gives you specific information which is going to be on the test. His study guuide is very similar to his tests so as long as you review alot you will get a good grade on tests
He's a nice guy. I think I learned a lot in this class, because it doubled as macroeconomics, and some business writing. The main project is somewhat challenging, but gives good experience. I would try to go to all of the lectures, this is a class where there are no powerpoints, and attendance matters.
Dr. Pingle is as nice of a professor as a student is going to get. He will really help a student if asked. He responds quickly to e-mails. There are three exams. Reviews before exams are is very helpful. There is a gigantic group project. The project is a big part of the grade, at least one student needs to be adept at Excel for the project.
One of the nicest professors out there. Most of the tests focus on lecture notes and the stats book so make sure you study those and go to class as much as possible. The project is now individual and you have to work on it throughout the entire term. Doesn't do + or - grades. Participation required. 90% of grade is 3 tests and a project.
Took him for Summer Mini Session Econ 103. Minisessions are always intense but this one wasn't too terrible. He is good at not making the material monotonous and is decent at explaining things. Tests are tough but if you study well you'll be good. Good professor overall.
His notes are very confusing and he tends to go off on tangents. The textbook is his own writing so if you read that, the ideas do not become much clearer. His examples do not help explain concepts and his tests and strictly free response with numerous specific questions on data off of 20+ figures.
Worst econ teacher you could have. His lectures are super boring and none of the information he goes over will be on the test. Also, the tests are all free response and it's extremely difficult to get full credit because in order to get a good grade, the answer has to be in his own words. overall don't take his class.
I took Pingle's graduate economics class over summer mini session, it was a 3 week course. The grades are based on assignments due everyday (50% of the grade) and a final exam (the other 50%). The coursework is not easy, but if you do all the assignments, show up for class, and do the final, he gives you at a minimum, a B, just for trying.
Dr. Pingle is one of the best professors I have ever had. If you study what is on his study guides and practice tests and put in effort you will get an A. Go into his office hours and get help because he tends to give extra credit if he can tell you are putting in more effort. DO NOT leave the project until the end of the semester or you will fail.
Do not take this guy for 103. He makes absolutely no sense during lecture, and his study guides for tests look they were made in under two minutes. He favors a handful of students and even gave them 100% in participation for the semester just because they did well on a test. STAY AWAY FROM PINGLE!!
Don't know what he talks about half the time I feel like it's someone talking to me, when you have no idea what words they are using, most of the lecture is him talking, sometimes he writes things down but has the students do it, honestly struggled in this class and I showed up all semester.
He is a good teacher, I took his class in a mini session online. He is such a nice guy and will get back to you quickly and really likes if you asks questions. You can tell he likes his job and always relates the material to real world situations and even gives life advice as you learn things.
Gives really engaging lectures. He is really good at relating the content you're learning back to real life. The tests are all long answers but his reviews are amazing and if you pay attention you will be fine. If you were need help he is more than willing to help and always encourages questions.
I think Mr. Pingle is a great person. He has some funny stories about his kids, but these stories are tangents. I participate all the time in class and his common phrase is "you would get full points, but" to go off on a 20-minute tangent. We have 3 assignments in the class. The assignments have nothing to do with the lessons.
I took his class for a mini session. It was great as he tried his best to teach you. He likes students asking questions, uses an iPad to explain many things. However, the class is difficult if you miss the assigned reading or the lecture. The tests are really hard as they are written questions, not multiple-choice questions.
Very disrespectful. The worst professor I have ever had. Takes random attendance sometimes but if you miss 2+ he calls you out. Goes on rants about unrelated topics and his lectures teach you nothing about the exams, and his study guides arent as helpful as they should be.
Very knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about, but lectures have nothing to do with assignments and tests. No homework to boost grade, tests are your entire grade, and they are all paragraph answers.
Hard project but not too bad if you follow along and look at notes. Tests are difficult but gives all the information you need for them the class before the test. Not an easy class.
I am a transfer student and had already taken maco and got an A in it. Unr made me take it again and this was the absolute worst class I have ever taken. I love econ but he is an awful professor. Doesn't know how to use any modern technology. He had us do a data analytics project on with pen and paper instead of excel. He is stuck in 1970.
He didn't have any slide shows and only wrote down some important things. How he weighted the class stressed me out.
Do not take econ with this teacher. He just rambles about random things and doesn't teach you anything you need for econ. He also doesn't update the due dates on canvas from the previous semester so you don't know when anything is due.
I wish I didn't take this guy. There is no homework so it is not easy to fix your grade if it goes down. Also the final is 35% of your grade. There are random attendance days. In all he is a ok guy when you communicate with him, other than that he sucks.
Learned more about history then economics in my econ class, first class said stuff about economics 3 times vs. the hour tangent about agriculture, the Middle Ages and wars.
This guy is literally the mayor of Yappingtown. Talks about everything BUT economics. Only been like 2 weeks and so far I've learned more about history and the medieval ages than Economics. He also doesn't have any slideshows up, just him talking which makes it extra hard to take notes. Steer clear
Lots of tangents in his lectures that take up far too much time, unrelated to class topic and will not help you get through the first assignment. The textbook is written by him and has many grammar errors and the wording can be very confusing. Avoid him if you have to take Econ classes.
Literally do not take. Explains nothing yet has the hardest exams and quizzes. harsh grader. DO NOT TAKE
Dont get me wrong he is truly a good guy and believes in Ethical behavior when discussing grading opportunties for students. However, as a student this class can be difficult because outside of his book that isn't as resourceful, you have to figure it out yourself. It is highly recommended to study before, and seek help from students, not him.
Horrible, kind of rude, and expects you to know what he grew up with, were in 2023 grow up. Students you are better off having a study session with those who semi understand the material if you want to get a decent grade in the class. dont take him, take Anne.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Pingle's lectures serve as tangent time or the few times he did go over material for assignments it mostly wasn't helpful. As someone who has taken macro and microeconomics in high school his way of "teaching" supply and demand graphs makes no sense. I do not know how people without previous econ classes survived this class.
Avoid if possible! Pingle's lectures were incredibly boring and confusing. He had 9 random attendance days. He requires you to buy two separate textbooks for $25 each. The textbooks are not very helpful throughout the course and they are made by him. Exams and homework are extremely difficult and unrealistic for the course level. Tough grader too!
AVOID THIS CLASS IF POSSIBLE! His lectures mostly consist of him talking about random things that don't relate to econ at all and the little material he does cover is super confusing and his textbooks are all written by him so they're just as useless. I have no idea how anyone without previous econ experience can pass this class.
Bro this teacher sucks. He literally never graded anything until a few weeks after we completed it. His tests were all free response. He gave us a 10 min timer for the homework.
I took ECON 103 in Spring 2024 and he is a good professor and knows what he is talking about but you need to go to class and pay attention. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go as he randomly chooses days to take attendance. He doesn't lay out due dates in canvas but they are in the syllabus, and will go the extra mile for you if you do.
Unprofessional. Not very good at teaching.
Avoid at all costs! The way he is grading everything is questionable.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. The way he is grading assignments and tests are based on if he likes you or not.
He isn't horrible, he did take attendance a lot and you are expected to show up to class. Was only graded on 3 assignments and 2 tests as well as the final exam so if you don't do well on one assignment your grade goes down. He also takes forever to give back assignments so it is hard to know how harshly he will grade your things.
Mayor or yapville, this guy goes off on tangents for classes that he makes risky to not attend. He has a 3 strikes you're out rule for attendance and picks random dates. He has 3 homework assignments which take almost the whole semester to grade, textbooks are ones he made and sells. Overall does too much for a 103 class. Just don't take him.
Maybe he is better for econ 102 but for 103 do not take him. All the comments about his tangents are true. HE SELLS YOU HIS OWN TEXTBOOKS. His lectures aren't hard and his tests are mostly common sense but it is painful to sit through all these lectures. He also does not post any notes at all
Professor Pingle gives you many opportunities to succeed in his class. If you show that you care about his class and go to office hours he is more than willing to help and his class is not easy to excel in but it is certainly doable.
Im not sure why but he decides to take attendance randomly, with a 3 strikes policy. He FORCES you to buy HIS textbooks, which are very rarely used, and if it's possible get someone to send you the pages. He takes literal months to grade and it's based on only 3 assignments and 2 tests, so you may be cooked if you do bad on an assignment.
Very passable class. Try your best to make every single class because he literally teaches the exams. His grades consist of 2 exams and a cumulative final. If you're able to ace the first two exams you are exempt from the final. There are random attendance day checks & 3 strikes and you're out. Show up, pay attention for the 1 hour & youll be fine
I love economics but I couldnt stand this class He talked about nothing important to the homework until the last month of class and I didn't know how to do the homework because of that I have no doubt that he's knowledgeable and he'd be a great mentor I just don't think he's a good teacher My text limit isn't super big so refer to other reviews too
Pingles classes are so boring he goes off topic talking about other shit not regarding the class, his random attendance days get annoying especially if you get sick a lot. At the end of the semester if you miss more than the 3 classes he uploads two assignments you can choose from to still pass so he is willing to work a little bit with you.
