Nice guy but tests on stuff we hardly discussed. I learned very little. He needs to have us take notes and then test us on that.
His lectures are precise and methodical, but he still is able to keep that much-needed human element in his classes. He is intellectually challenging, a gifted psychologist - an overall great prof to have.
Love the class but the tests are really hard...
Hard class but what do you expect in college?
He kept class interesting and he found ways to add humor to his lectures. The tests were hard but manageable. Overall an excellent professor to have.
Very interesting lectures. Tough tests, hard class.
I was kind of put off by him. One on one, he is excellent. In class, he made me feel dumb when I asked questions. Overall nice guy and very smart. Better stats prof than some of otherin dept.
a very good lecturer - his teaching styles fits all of the main learning styles
I'll never forget his stories about schizophrenic patients and how he said Umans for Humans.
awesome prof, explains things clearly, brought his dog in!

Great prof. I recommend him, but tough exams!! Study hard!!! very clear and kept lectures interesting!
Awesome Prof! His lectures are entertaining (especdailly when he does his impression of macaque behavior), and his highly trained German Shepherds are always a treat to have in class during the learning and conitioning unit!
One of the best Profs I had taken a class with at UWSP
A lot of fun, study for the tests and do the readings
Great professor. He has passion in what he's teaching, especially the dog class. I love his way of giving you all the information before hand with the notes. STUDY STUDY STUDY!!! One student once complained that he didn't go over stuff, but it was CLEARLY in the power points he offers.
he's pretty full of himself but once you get past that he's a pretty good professor. studying is overrated.
This guy almost likes his job too much in a bad way. If you really like behaviorism and dry as toast material, go for it
Stats is hard to begin with, but he made it seem even harder. He's nice enough but kind of makes people feel stupid when they ask questions.
awesome professor, i like the tests, they make sure you actually absorb the material, great intro psych class

Umm doesn't present material very well at all, he makes it so much more confusing then he should and I am sick of hearing about how many times he has published something!
Enough about the dogs already!
This guy really knows his stuff. He usually keeps lecture interesting by throwing in a few stories about his days in New York. His tests are all mulitple choice, but they are really hard! You need to attend lecture AND read the text carefully if you want to pull off an A. His canine behavior class is really good if you're looking to get your own dog
his canine class is very interesting but sometimes it seems no matter how hard you study for his test an A is impossible to get. he is the kind of professor who wants kids to do bad on his test, it makes him feel better about himself.
Overall, he is an amazing professor. His exams are based off of the powerpoints and lectures AND the readings from the textbook. All of his notes are available to be printed, which means not alot of writing needed. He does have a knack for making people feel stupid for asking questions though. I would recommend him. He loves the subject.
Tough tests, that's about it. Interesting class.
He seriously is a good prof. I am a person with very average grades and he made me interested that I even showed up for all but one class. He talks about drugs a lot and he even brings in hos doggies. Trust me on this one, this guy is keepin it real. I greatly recommend him.
Interesting class all around, tough tests. Awesome dogs.
Tough teacher, knows his stuff, knows he knows his stuff, moves really fast, weird sense of humor. Wont take him again.
Probably some of the hardest tests I've ever taken. He uses a lot of info from the book so if you want to do good on the tests I suggest reading. He's one of the best professor's I've ever had, brings his dogs in and you can tell he's really passionate about psych. All notes online but I suggest going to class, extra info given there.
I understand he enjoys teaching about the subject, but the psychology of learning should be wrapped around humans...not animals as much. I was deeply disappointed that more attention was given to animal behavior than human behavior.
He is a hard professor, but after the semester you will definately know your stuff. He expects that if you're in this upper 300 level class that you'll do all the reading and study alot. His tests are MC 50 questions, but they're rough, and he takes quite a few questions from the text alone. Good teacher overall and is passionate about the topic.
Mark comes into class looking like he just rolled out of bed...but dont worry, he is always ready to talk about his PUPPIES. Lecture is boring but good to attend, (to keep you awake, count how many times he asks "are you with me?") and you MUST read the book. online quizes dont help with the hard, similar crazy worded tests.
Dr. Plonsky was the worst teacher I have ever had. I took his 200 level course on canine behavior my senior year at Stevens Point. I attended most every class, but it was useless because all I learned was about himself and his ego. I spent hours studying for his tests, only to fail the course. Until this class I had an above 3.0 gpa.
Alright, so this guy's been teaching for a long time. He knows exactly how to say things in the perfect way (sometimes he seems to sound like a tour guide!). You get a textbook, but don't use it, he has you use his notes from the web (it's about 100 pages). He curves the class AMAZINGLY. He really tries to give everyone awesome grades.
very clear on what he is teaching, can be repetitive but it helps you understand what he's teaching
Awesome prof! His tests are difficult but he curves them. He keeps class fun and interesting!Grade is based on 4 tests. Study and go to class and you'll do just fine.
Not a very helpful teacher at all. His lectures are very boring. All he does is repeat the power point. His tests are hard and you need to apply all of the info he gives you in class as well as read every single page he assigns, which is very time consuming! Gets behind and expects you to know material for the test without going over it in class!
he is difficult but he can be helpful but he will not tell you exactly what you have to do for this class he makes you figure it out. he will increase your grade at the end of the year if you show up to most of the classes and participate every once and a while
fun class. if you read the book you will do much better on the tests
Dr.P rocks!! This class was really fun and I learned alot. He has, by far, the fairest multiple choice questions for his exams. If you do the readings and come to class, you'll be fine. Explains really well, a great professor overall. more than willing to talk if you have questions. He really knows his stuff - one of the best prof. I've ever had.
Very easy going professor. A bit anal about how you need to do things, but he does it for a reason, IT HELPS! If you go to class every day and do your work you will pass.
Ego so big, there's no room to move or breathe. Learned plenty about DOGS and DRUGS. Looks as though his lifestyle surrounds both. Do not get on his bad side, or ask less than a scholarly question. Condescending and terminally narcissitic.
-FYI just because you have a Ph.D in front of your name doesnt mean you're God --are you with me?
Excellent at explaining things, and overall great teacher.
Able to print off the notes right from his website which I found very helpful. Although attendance is not mandatory, if you attend lecture sessions and skim the chapters the tests will be a breeze.
difficult class but he explained everything in depth sometimes too much, but he knows what he is talking about
Very enthusiastic about psych of learning and dogs. I found him to be very unrealistic, absent minded, and arrogant. Will not take a class with him again. He was not helpful when asked for clarification of material. Tests are very hard and all multiple choice. No other assignments.
Material is difficult - neither he, or the book, make it any easier. He seemed to encourage questions (raise grade for participation), but often made you feel like an idiot when doing so. Exams were virtually impossible. notes on his webiste.
He's a good professor though his class is definately a challenge. His lectures are very interesting and he has a good sense of humor. However, whatever he doesnt get to in his lectures is still on the exams and students are expected to learn from the book. He assigns a lot of difficult textbook reading. Overall a good professor though
he is a great teacher. great sense of humor. lectures easy to go to and sit through. class is challenging
Exams are next to impossible unless you study for them weeks in advance. Honestly, not a very helpful professor at all although you can tell he is extremelly knowledgable. I was so un-satisfied with the way the class was ran and the professor himself, that I ended up dropping the class.
Dr. Plonsky is extremely arrogant and it's clear he'd rather be working with his dogs than teaching students. However, the lectures are fairly entertaining and you don't really need to take notes -- but reading the textbook is an absolute MUST if you want to do well on the exams. The textbook website is also helpful (unlike the professor).
He's super hard and if you're not into reading the text book, then you're not in the right class. Tests are from book and lectures. He's not willing to help you if you're having difficulty with the material.
Very demanding class. You have to read the chapters he give you because even if he doesn't cover it in class it can be on the exam. He thinks he is the smartest person ever....although he is very intelligent. Loves dogs and will sometimes bring his in for examples. Always says "are you with me" and "do you see where I'm going with this"
Smart and entertaining guy, but doesn't care too much about students. Barely read the book, it blows. Attended a psyc 110 tutoring group which was very helpful
This class was extremely fun and interesting, he's an entertaining professor and makes you want to be in class, but if you don't read the textbook you will fail. It's vital to use the book and understand every term in the chapters. It was a hard but fun class
This teacher only gives 4 quizes and thats all he grades. So if you fail one test you pretty much wont get an A in the class. You must read the text book in order to know most of the material on the quiz. He is not a very good professor.
Took this class my freshman year and I really loved it. Not only is the topic interesting but Plonsky is a sharp guy with a good sense of humour. I learned alot and had fun doing it. Grading format is 4 tests. Thats it. No homework, so if you are not independant he may not be the teacher for you (college may not be for you either.)
Extremely arrogant and condescending. His tests were ridiculously difficult, he often put material on the tests that were on future chapters rather than the chapters we were currently studying. Take his classes only if you absolutely must.
He keeps class entertaining and he knows what he is talking about. He engages the students and always makes sure that everyone understands before moving on. He has four 50 point multiple choice tests and that is it. Only homework each week is the reading. He does not provide study guides so take good notes and do the reading.
Positives: Material is very interesting. He incorporates a variety of learning techniques such as power point, pictures, movies, news articles, music etc. He likes students that participate. Grades are straight forward, 4 tests. READ! Negatives: He can have an attitude. Don't disrupt the class or ask stupid questions. He takes it way too personal.
Great teacher, going to class is not necessary but is enjoyable and makes the concepts easier to understand. He is a bit eccentric, but I think thats what kept me from spacing out. He also brought his dog to class to demonstrate conditioning, very cool!
I had Dr. P for canine psych and disliked his style of teaching. I signed up for stats late and he was the only one left...understandably. His tests are graded with a fine toothed comb. One missed dotted "i" and its 25% off for you. To pass his tests you either have to memorize the note packets or he has to like you. "Any questions or comments?"
Arrogant, rude, wouldn't explain things well. If you didnt get it the first time he said it, he'll make you feel like an idiot if you ask to explain again. Class is based off of 4 tests. You do bad on one, you fail the class. I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER!
Loved this class. Dr. Plonsky is a good professor. He has no tolerance for class disruptions but was otherwise great. It's a lot of textbook reading, but nothing unreasonable. He also gives you a copy of all his lecture notes. He makes it easy on you. Do your reading, show up to class, and you'll get an A
Funny guy and really knows his stuff. Uses great and sometimes funny examples to help further explain the material well. Lots of reading though and he doesn't cover everything from the text and he likes to put material from the book on the tests. Use the textbook's online practice tests to study, they helped me a lot. Highly recommend his class.
This professor knows what he's talking about. Interesting material, a lot of movies, pictures, news articles, etc. Tests are relatively hard, if you don't study. 1/3 material from lecture, 1/3 from book, 1/3 from lecture and book. Helpful, likes people to ask questions. Boosts grade if you participate or improve over semester.
Rude, arrogant but a good professor if you get on his good side. He uses videos, power point and music. Tests were challenging. Read the book if you want an A. He has a temper so don't talk.
Very good teacher. Very intimidating when you first take the class but it turned out to be an easy course.
Hard professor, took psych 110 with him did horrible withdrew before it affected my GPA and took psych 110 with a different professor got a C. For psych 290 he averages your test scores so your screwed if you do bad on a test...would not take again
Very entertaining during his lectures and knows how to keep the students interested, very helpful and explains things thoroughly and fully answers questions during class.
Does a pretty good job of explaining difficult material, but will make you feel stupid for asking questions and call you out in class if he thinks you aren't paying attention. He also never misses an opportunity to brag about all of the research he has done. Has a great curve and tests that are fair. Would take his class again.
Mark doesn't respect his students starting the first day with "most of you will flunk out." Class based on 3 exams and they are difficult. He will put questions like, "what are my dogs names?" on exams instead of things he "taught" in class. I would never take this prof again.
Very clear on the material, also brought his dogs in for demonstration to help explain some of the material better. He's fair, and attending regularly will help your grade significantly. A little dry at times, though he does have his attempts at humor. Overall he's a great professor.
Not helpful when confronted for help in class.
I have had Dr. Plonsky for three classes while in UWSP. He is by far one of my favorite teachers. he really knows what he is teaching and loves doing it! I enjoy how he sets up his classes online with his notes. Make sure to attend lecture because it's vital to the exam, oh and he brings his own dogs in!!
I hate statz but this was required for my major so I had to try as best as I could. Dr. Plonksy really helped me understand the material and was wiling to work with me. I was getting a F and ended up with a C. He really enjoys teaching and this is why I continued to take two other classes from him.
Such an intersting and fun class!! He really loves teaching and it shows in his lectures. I would take this class again if I could. Make sure to attend his lectures because it's mandatory to your success in the class.
He seemed to be a hard teacher at first, and after the first exam that idea was definitely confirmed!!
Expect to read every assigned chapter. The tests are super hard and preparing for them is tough. Studying from the power point slides is not enough!! You must read and fully understand the text book chapters. He words exams super weirdly, and the 4 exams are the only grades for the whole semester. Good luck, you'll need it.
Canine Behavior was a fun class but your grade is solely on 4 exams so it can be a little tough but overall it was a good class and he is more than willing to help.
Very tough classes. He uses more advanced vocabulary and likes to use dog and rat examples instead of human. If you ask him for help he will do his best to do that. He is a very intelligent person.
Dr. Plonsky is an all around nice guy. Uses a ton of animal examples that become confusing. You really have to work to get a decent grade. The tests are difficult.
Tests were hard but Plonsky was a good professor. Buy the online textbook for practice quizzes. Some questions on the online quizzes were the same on the tests.
Hard tests, self-declared hardest grader on campus. Probably won't do well if you don't read the book word for word 200-250 per test. 4 exams are the only grades in the class
Dr. Plonsky is the funniest professor I've ever had! I love his sense of humor!
I enjoyed Psyc 110 with Plonksy. There are only 4 tests for the whole semester, but passing the course with a good grade makes you feel so good. Your supposed to read the book as well as take notes in the class, but I passed with just taking good notes in the class. Be prepared to work, but he make the class interesting and may even bring his dog!
Loves input from the class
Loved this class with him because I enjoyed the math. Labs were optional which was super nice. Learned lots.
DR. Plonsky is great and canine behavior is an awesome class if you love dogs. I learned so much and it was so interesting. He explains things very thoroughly and will always answer questions. He does assign a book to read that will show up on the test, as well as questions from the text book so make sure to read! All lectures notes are posted.
His reading of the textbook is so much, and in order to get at least an A, you have to read the textbook, do online quizzes (with a website he gives you), and read over the notes, and understand what you learned.
He is literally the worst professor. I took notes in class and from the book, and did the online quizzes and still ended up with an F. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
I wish I could select more tags. I've enjoyed him as a professor immensely, as his teaching style is very much intune with the way that I process information. It was a genuine pleasure having him as a professor.
If you are lost in the class, drop out of it.
Very hard class. I am an A student and received a D+ in this course. Tests were very hard and the only grades in the class. When I met with him one on one to discuss my grade and things I could do better he was incredibly rude. Also would not bump my grade even at .02% away, even with my attendance being 100% and doing everything he asked of us.
