Wonderful teacher if youre an auditory learner that can take notes from a written outline.
He is extremely well prepared to class, loves what he teaches, and wants to engage his students into his discussions. He will never give an easy A to slackers, but is always willing to help any student who needs extra help. I would definitely recommend him if you are interested in learning.
He likes what he teaches and wants the students to praticipate in discussion. Gives out review sheet and you HAVE TO study for it. Essay questions on the tests. Final isn't accumulative. Take notes in class cuz he tests from his lectures. Choose 1 essay or project and its due the end of semester.
He is definately in to what he teaches. He tends to pace around a lot and it can be distracting. Even though attendance is not madatory if you do not show up you will fail. Take notes and study the review sheets he gives. Do not think about plagairising on the paper or project because he will fail you.
He is extremely helpful,i never thought i will be able to understand history because i never had no interest at all. He is always available for consultation. Just attend classes, do the review and one project/ essay. Definitely recommend him, will take him for history 2 again.
Took him for 2 histories, in both of them got A's! Very helpful!! Would recommend him! He is cute, too
If you planing to take a siesta during class forget it! Mr. Popowski will keep you awake during the whole class. He tends to pace around a lot and his voice can get very loud. Get ready to bring plenty of paper to take notes. Grammar and spelling are "pivotal" in his class. Get ready to loose serius grade points for misspelling. Recommended!
Mr. Popowski was incredibly boring in my opinion. I could barely keep my eyes open and hated thinking about how i had to go to that class. Sometimes i would just leave because he wouldn't make sense in his longgg and unbearable lectures. You literally sit there and watch him pace back and forth and talk loud with no interaction with the students.
i really enjoyed his class. His tests are straight from his lectures but he also throws a lot of quizzes from the book. But i loved it, I aced every test , but you have to study his notes and make sure you are in class for lecture. He does tend to yell at pivotal points in his lecture though.
DO NOT take this class. It is so freaking hard. He makes NO sense at all.
Very interesting Professor to listen to. He has a passion for History and that makes the lecture interesting. Very academically objective. Has his own opinions on topics but other opinions are very welcome.
I took him for both of my history cores over the summer. The dude is the best professor at Collin hands down. Go to class, listen and take notes and his class is not hard. He does right up review terms on the board everyday and every single one of those will be on the test so as long as you take notes on them you will be fine. You will enjoy him
Seriously good teacher. Tests are hard but he prepares you well. Watch your spelling on tests, if an answer is spelled wrong it's marked incorrect! Easy on the eyes. He looks like Ben Afleck!
You have to go to class! Never used the book and made a 98. Wants to help everyone and is fun to listen to.
Has only 3 tests that are not comprehensive. No essays on tests, just one paper due towards end of semester. Tends to get behind on readings and goes off on tangents at times. But overall good teacher that is really into history and likes teaching.
He was very into his teaching, which made me feel more interested in his class than an average history class. He does say 'right?' after every other word though, but it was surprisingly not irritating. Extra credit opportunities on quizzes are what brought me up to an A. I recommend him to my friends!
Hated this class, If you miss even a minute of his lecture you are in trouble. He does NOT use text book or powerpoints and his notes are nearly un-readable. He gets caught up in his rants and forgets to teach but will still have it all on the test. His notes are EXTREMELY unorganized. I would recommended another professor.
if you miss one day your screwed! he teaches without the book, but if you come everyday and take notes then you will make an a! very organized he def. knows his history. sometimes talks forever on subjects but def. not boring to look at!! personally i would take him during summer, when i had him in spring he made 50 mins go by like 500..
Took both of his classes and he is not really hard but very thorough. Tests aren?t very hard, but you have to study and be careful to spell answers correctly. Write down all the notes on the board and come to all the classes and you?ll get an A.
No attendance policy! 1 research paper, 3 exams including final, 5 quizzes. Helpful! Gives reviews...pretty long though. All note-taking(on board not ppt.), no book required. Can use laptops, no phones but not anal about it...Take him for easy A/B.
Great professor. Really nice guy, very helpful. No textbook. Go to class, take notes and you'll do great.
Awesome teacher!! All notes are hand written on the white board, kinda messy hand written, but all you have to do is ask him and he will fix it. **No text book required** 1 research paper, 3 tests, 5(easy)pop quizzes, and a final. If you take notes and study the test reviews you will make an easy A/B OH and he also gives a lot of 'bounus' points!
Great teacher, he is very helpful. Very nice and has great lectures. His notes are a little unorganized but he will clarify them if you ask. His test/quizzes are very verbous(has a lot of big words that are sometimes unnecessary) Other than that do the work and pay attention. Great teacher - highly recommended.
Mark Popowski is the best lecturer so far i hv met in my college endeavor. He knows his stuff and find interesting in teaching it. Extremely helpful if you contact him during his office hours incase you dont understand anything.Took him for both history and i will take him again.Highly recomemded.
I had him for both 1301 and 1302. He is incredibly kind and he didn't know me until I emailed him with a question one day and then he knew me and became very helpful. Not the easiest of classes, especially if you're bad at listening. Because all his classes are just lecture. No book. All you need is a notebook and a pen.
Professor Popowski sure does know a lot about History. I had him for History 1301 and 1302. He is very cool and is very helpful. His tests are 50 questions all multiple choice. He only requries one research paper that has to be 5-7 pages long. He doesn't use power points, he writes everything on the board so take good notes!
Best professor I have had at CCCC. He is intelligent but modest. He is so passionate about history and it makes you want to listen to his lectures. If you miss class you will fail, even though attendance is not required. He will help you if you ask him.
Impressively well versed in American history. Took him for both 1301 and 1302. Loved both classes. No text book. Tests are 10 fill in the blanks and 40 mulitple choice. Very wordy but understandable, especially if you go to class, take notes and study. Spelling counts. Research paper is easy. Very kind and approachable.
Good Lecture teacher. He writes everything on the board in outline format, WORST HANDWRITING ever! But other than that very well mannered man who knows what he is talking about. Can grade difficult.
Good teacher, totally recommend his class. You need to attend classes though. It's really interesting because we debate on the articles we have to read too.
Very smart guy! Loved the class! easy, if you go to class and pay attention. he doesn't require a book so his tests are based off of his lectures, tests are multiple choice and 1 essay is required, he also gives two extra credit oppourtites
Dr. Popowski is an excellent professor. SO smart and willing and open to help any student. Very passionate about what he teaches and easy on the eyes also ;)
He is the best history professor I ever had. He is really passionate about the subject which really helped me understand his perspective from history. Attendance is very important because his tests are straight from his notes. He also gives random quizzes throughout the whole semester. He gives extra credit and bonus points to help students out.
Very kind and understanding person. Just go to class and pay attention on what he says and thinks about the topic because he asks about his ideas in the tests. His extra credit assignment helps students bump their grade by a half letter grade. Pop quizzes are purely based on his notes, very easy if you listen to him carefully!
He is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable, and that shows in his lectures. Be sure to pay attention to his viewpoints & biases, because they will show up on the tests. Show up to class, pay attention, and study your notes and you should be fine. He's also very nice and will answer questions. Research paper required, and it isn't graded easily.
Good guy overall- ATTENDANCE IS NECESSARY if you want to do well. Treats students respectfully and welcomes your opinion. Doesn't use a textbook, just requires you to read published articles that won't really show up on the exam.
Prof Popowski is by far my fav professor at Collin, wish he would teach more courses! He is definitely passionate about what he teaches with his own interesting ideas and opinions, while also very understandng of students who might not agree. No book but take notes like nobodys business if you want an A!! And yes, he is pretty dang attractive.
he only uses giant words that mainly do not make sense.
Spends WAY to much time on student led discussions which only effect your grade if your the one reading your question that day. He gets caught up in the talks and mainly talks to himself about it, spending 3/4 of the class on it, the rest on lectures which are vital to passing tests!! I just hope I don't have to be in a class of his again
he is a very nice and respectful guy and of course not a problem to look at either. it was great that there was no book needed. the fact that he spends too much time on student led discussions is questionable, but other than the ones you are responcible for you do not need to read them at all unless you just love history, which i dont.
If you are not interested in history, he will change your mind! Lectures are thought-provoking and he is passionate about all topics. If you attend class and take good notes on his lecture, you will definitely get an A on all the tests. I wish I needed another history credit because I would love to take another one of his classes.
His tests are very lengthy. Each question is a paragraph long, no exaggeration. Each answer option (a,b,c,d) for the tests are ALSO a paragraph long,so you have to be on top of studying for tests, which is hard because he doesnt use a textbook. use his notes. goodluck.
Alot of people say his class is really hard and he is unclear but thats only if you dont pay attention. His test are long like paragraph questions but they are easy if you show up and write down what he has on the board. Overall i think hes great. Dont let the bad reviews discourage you from taking him he isn't that bad.
LoL, all these people complaining about his length of questions on test... in truth they are long but not hard honestly really not tough at all... no text books only lectures has a bit of an accent but funny is an awkward sense also smartest guy you'll come across knows tonz of knowledge on the subject and is always helpful as well as down to earth
I went to SMU, so i know something about good proffesors. Mr. Popowski is as good as they come. He is brilliant and enthusiastic. Dont have to buy a textbook. There are articles provided, but the readings will not be on the test. However, you should still read them, as they are an excellent selection. If you attend class, you will do well.
Tests are long, but not hard. Rest well, and use process of elimination where necessary. No text book, which is great. Very easy going guy. Student led discussions are easy points.
The teacher is very helpful to you when you need more clarity on things. He does talk A LOT, but if you come to class regularly and listen you will be fine. The tests aren't hard if you have come to class and listened and most of the answers are right there when he elaborates on something he said.
Amazing teacher! Most history classes are just powerpoints and colorful anecdotes but this guy asks his students about the philosophy of history, i.e. "Why do we study history, etc." He's writes on the board and there are a lot of student-led discussions but you will never use the book, although it doesn't hurt to look at it.
Great Teacher. If you show up to class you will get an A. Never studied for the class and made a 51/50 and a 45/50 on the first and second tests respectively. He is very enthusiastic and his class was one I actually enjoyed.
Excellent professor. Superb lecture style with fascinating commentary on aspects of history rarely explored in entry level courses. Made U.S. History seem exciting and grades fairly. Three exams and one research paper. Not hard, but attendance is crucial. Take his class.
By far the best professor I ever had! He is as brilliant as he is compassionate! He even writes on the syllabus "I WANT TO HELP YOU!" Just pay attention, ask questions, and you will come out with an A. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches, and he is very good at it! He is truly a wonderful human being! TAKE HIS CLASS!
had him for maymester. totes recommend him! he is sooo super cute (: no textbook, just take notes on everything he writes on the board and says. got over a 100 cause of extra credit quizzes and hundreds on the two tests. all i did was read over my notes. there is also a research paper and articles you have to read. TAKE HIM. GO TO CLASS. too cute.
I am only 1/2 way through the fall semester when writing this. Yes, he is pretty cute but he is also kinda awkward in how he delivers his lectures. He paces, he refers to notes, and he yells a bit to stress important things. There is one research paper where you decide the topic to write on. I am sure he is a sweet person, just an awkward speaker.
This class is easy if you just show up and take the notes off the board and read them for the test. He is very wordy and overexplains a bit but he is a nice guy. He will work with you if you talk to him. Take this class if you come to class and get your stuff done.
He is such a great professor and is incredibly passionate about the subject. His tests are EXACTLY like his lectures, all you need to do is show up and take notes. He also doesn't require you to buy a textbook since all of the information for his tests come straight from his lectures. Honestly one of the best professors I've ever taken.
He is a great teacher and loves what he teaches. If you pay attention and take notes during his daily lectures, you will do fine on the total of 3 exams. One essay/research paper. Gives a lot of possible bonus points, and is really sweet. Attendance is not mandatory but what he lectures every day is on the exams.
He's really helpful and he makes the history sound really interesting. His tests require allot of reading but if u listen in class you'll be fine. He also gives a good amount of extra credit.Best of all, you don't need to waste money on a stupid book. Everyone should take his class.
no way, if I knew that this class would be so bad I would have never tooken it, it sucked being in tht class I wish I could take my money and invest it in another class save your time and go somewhere to help but his hand else, I mean he will try to help but his hand writing is horrable! I mean if I could upload a pic of it I would.
Super nice professor, but hard tests. His lectures are always written on the bored, and he is super spastic. His tests are based on his arguments and things he talks about during lecture, so if you're a good listener and can remember a lot of things without writing them down, then you should consider taking his class.
Excellent professor. Beyond superb lecture style. He approaches history from an advanced position rarely explored in entry level courses. Makes all history classes seem exciting and grades fairly. Three exams and one research paper. Not hard, but attendance is crucial. Wish he taught more history classes that I could take.
He is as hyper as he is cute, he always has a cup of coffee in his hand. He is not the worst teacher I have ever taken and he definitely knows his stuff, it's just that his lectures can get scattered brained because he is so hyper. He is not difficult, the two exams and final are easy of you attend class pay attention and take notes.
Awesome professor! The tests are based directly from his lectures in class, so showing up is extremely helpful. He gives 3 exams including the Final, as well as an easy essay.
Really great guy, you can tell how passionate he is about what he does. The only trouble I had was paying attention because he just writes on the board. Tests are pretty easy if you come on a daily basis and listen to what he has to say, although they do get a little wordy. Great professor that's really cute.
Good guy he knows his stuff. Just go to class listen to him and you will understand on his tests. People would skip because its an easy class but if you just go to class its very simple. Take him hes good.
Really intelligent. I took him for a summer class and it was a huge workload. Exams are easy but its not easy to get an A. He's hard to follow at times. Ehh teacher
Good Professor. History is as boring as it gets, but he makes it somewhat interesting. Attendance is crucial as most of the important info is through his lectures (has horrible penmanship though: handwriting is barely legible). Textbook isn't needed. 2 exams, 1 research paper or essay, and 1 assignment on course readings.
He is a great professor. When he gives you the test review with keywords, study all of those and you will get an A.
He makes history very interesting and fun! Of course, his writing is a bit dirty, but whose isn't? Just gotta attend his classes, ask questions, take notes, and you will be fine.
He knows his stuff and is very passionate but way too philosophical. HIS lectures are hard to follow as he is all over the place, and his handwriting is horrible. He's super nice but needs to change how he lectures/tests. Tests are over his lectures. Didn't use the book at all. If you want clear cut information, take someone else!
First of all, VERY different history class. Theoretical and philosophical-different approach. BUT GIVE HIM A CHANCE. Don't drop the class on 1st day; I almost dropped this class, I am glad I didn't. Interesting and very passionate. Longest multiple-choice exam, but if you went to lectures and listened-you will do well. Don't buy/borrow the book.
He is a nice guy but is a not good teacher. His teaching methods aren't clear
He is a nice guy but not a clear teacher his readings are boring and confusing
GO TO CLASS and PARTICIPATE! He becomes a better teacher and easier to understand when you ask questions and try to answers he asks to the best of your knowledge. Even though you might have answered the question wrong, he will explain what he means and answers the question for you. His tests are all about the lectures and in negative form.
he can be sort of scatter brained at times but he is a very easy teacher
Super nice guy and you can tell he really knows what he is talking about! 2 tests, 1 easy reading assignment, 1 paper, and a multiple choice final. Only issue is that his handwriting is hard to read and he writes his notes on the board. Ridiculously easy!!!
Honestly I would not recommend this professor to anyone. You have to listen to all his lectures to be able to pass the class. He doesn't make sense when he talks and his hand writing is horrible hard to read. It is a tough class.....
Almost too smart. You have to get past his constant motion to be able to listen to what he is saying. He is all lecture, with occasional class questions. His grading makes it almost impossible to fail. All the tests are based on his opinion given in his lecture. If you don't show up you'll fail. But if you do, easy A.
his lectures are just pure rambles based on his interpretation of history. Tests are based on what he says in his lectures. Literally. He'll ask "In my lecture I argued that..." Idk I think there's better options for a history professor.
I took this as a summer course. I assume he is a quality professor in a normal semester, but a 4 week summer course has no time for his complete rambles. Not to mention he tests us over his opinion- I didn't take notes one what YOU thought, I don't care. Has a largely philosophical approach. Interesting, but too much front loading for summer.
I took Doctor Popowski's class over a month long summer course and it was by far the most interesting history class I have ever taken. Doctor Popowski is very knowledgeable, holding a PhD and having previously published books. Tests are long (80 questions) and is entirely over the lecture. Go to office hours, he loves to help out students.
Prof Mark is intelligent and knows his stuff, good nature but not a good teacher, he is hyper on coffee, constant ramble and moving, flight of ideas, doesn't give good grades, test are on his opinions, jumps from topic 2 topic, learning not fun here. I had no other teacher alternative, should be last on list beside this no complaints, hope it helps
Professor Popowski is an intelligent dude. He keeps his lectures interesting, however they are extremely long (50 minutes). Make yourself known in class and he will help you with a lot of stuff. Go to class and listen to his lectures and you will get an A in the class.
One of my favorite professors ever. All you have to do in this class is listen. I find this easy, for everything he goes over is interesting. If you listen and take notes (which he literally either draws on the board or hands you himself) you just refer to those and pass all the tests with flying colors. Love his class, retook him again.
He knows what he's talking about, but he is very disorganized. I loved his class mainly because I didn't have to go since attendance was not mandatory, the book was useless even though he said we were going to use it. The tests were kinda difficult for me because I skipped almost every class, but my friends who went more regularly did better.
He is a good teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but necessary to pass. His tests are based on his opinion and what he said in class. As long as you pay attention in class and do the assignments, easy A. Just one essay.
This professor has such an elaborate vocabulary. If you're not that educated in big and meaningful words, you'll get lost in all of his lectures and every reading he assigns. There are two readings each week, sometimes three. Readings aren't that mandatory, unless you have a hard time understanding the lectures. Every exam is lecture based.
Long lectures over LONG reading assignments- if you need mental stimulation to learn DO NOT take his class!! Professor speaks in abstract, hard to follow and complicated lectures not stop.
If you want a class that involves memorizing facts and reading a textbook and knowing pointless dates, do not take this class. If you are interested in the philosophy of History and a course designed to inspire new thoughts, take this class. Tests are NOT hard. Minimal assignments. One paper. This course is amazing (that's the truth)!!
Mr. Popowski is a really great professor, but the only thing he does is lecture which makes the class boring. He's also kind of awkward, but getting group discussions going will make the class more enjoyable. He's an easy grader, and the tests are easy and you don't need the book. If you just show up and take notes, you'll pass.
Most interesting teacher for someone who is a fan of history. If history doesn't interest you , you probably will not appreciate his class to the level I did. No memorization just pay attention to lectures and participate. Easy A
If you want to sit and do nothing this is your guy. All he wants is someone to listen to him talk about philosophical history, which isn't the course!! You learn nothing. I passed his class with a 124% and I showed up to half his classes. He has one paper for the entire semester and that's it for homework. Easy to pass, but extremely boring.
He just talks the whole time and is very disorganized with his notes
Oh, where do I begin? Popowski is OVERQUALIFIED to teach history 1301, and the first couple of days is more philosophy than History. Personally, I loved it. I participated in every discussion, attended every class, and I received an "A." If you do the same, then the same grade awaits. For the people who dislike philosophy, I would choose otherwise.
Mark is the most unreasonable teacher I have ever had. His lectures are very opinionated and he does not keep an open mind. All of his test questions are worded as, "As I argued in class." The paper is graded solely on his stance and not for content. This is community college.. I'm not trying to get a PHD in history
DO NOT take this professor for a SUMMER course. Due to his ramblings and lecture based test, it is a very irritating class. When I say lecture heavy, I mean you must pay attention to HIS OPINIONS. There is very little you can do outside of class in order to gain information. IMPORTANT, he is philosophy based NOT information based.
This professor is not a bad choice for philosophy. He has very interesting lectures that make you think past the basic information. However, if you are taking this class you must show up to lectures and take notes on his main ideas. DO NOT take this class if you are not going to pay attention. Talk to your class mates to understand the lecture more
Popowski is definitely one of my favorite professors. He is super quirky, but really knows his stuff. DO NOT buy the textbook. It is "for enrichment" but you won't use it once. There is only one essay required and it's at the end of the class; it's supposed to be 5-7 pages, but with all that he gives to work with, it's super easy
This man is amazing. He gives some of the most intriguing lectures yet to find in any other class. Very engaging, thought provoking, and interesting history classes. Must show up to class and listen to his opinion though on the subject matter.
Professor Popowski was one of the worst TEACHERS I've ever experienced. Don't get me wrong though, he's an awesome person. He just isn't too great of a teacher. His tests are literally based off his own opinion which is unbelievable to me. I wouldn't recommend him at all. Don't waste your time with his class.
Popowski is probably one of the most confusing teachers I have ever had. Literally his whole semester is lecture based. Tests are based on his opinions and what he has discussed in class. over all I always found myself losing interest half way though lecture. wouldnt recommend...
I honestly think he speaks to hear himself talk not to teach, he paces around the room and randomly spurts out different facts and switches the subject he is teaching often so it is hard to take notes. he uses words i've never heard of and he has horrible handwriting so i have no idea how to spell them either.
Popowski is extremely intelligent. There are a total of 6 grades for the entire semester, so if you show up and listen you will pass.
This is not dates and names. He teaches concepts on historical development, philosophy of history. This is not a rote memorization course. Pay attention and engage, take good notes, and try to enjoy his quirkiness. His syllabus is intimidating but he's chill and I always enjoy seeing what he wears to class. Definitely knowledgeable in his field.
So truth is, you can skip this class and still pass, BUT if you just go to class you can VERY easily make an A. It's almost like he's challenging you to challenge yourself. Few grades but easy A's if you go to class and listen. Nobody does the readings which is annoying. Most tests and papers get pushed back. Usually a nice curve on the tests.
You can tell he is very passionate regarding history and critical thinking as you can hear it in his voice as he lectures, (and was the only factor that forbid me to fall asleep). The whole fifty minutes, was strictly lecture and is what all tests are based on. He is always more than willing to answer your questions and concerns, very helpful!
Not a history 1 class you'd expect. All he spoke about was what different pholiosphers believed and why what they believed was right. he constantly looked at the floor while he lectured so he didn't make much eye contact. His exams are on what he argued in class and not on specific historical facts. This was more of a philosophy class. Don't take.
He's very passionate about what he teaches but he never stays on topic. His lectures are very hard to follow and the attendance is not needed. You can pass this class easily but probably won't learn anything.
Wouldn't take this class. Mr. Popowski mostly rambles and it's not really clear what you are supposed to know in order to pass the class or even just to do the work. You're not really held to do anything either so most likely you'll never know what's going on.
I'm taking my 2nd class with him. You don't need the book but definitely attend class, his exams are based directly from the lectures. He is an easy grader, just wants you to think about history in a philosophical sense. His thoughts and lectures are scattered making it hard to follow, but take good notes and you'll easily pass the exams.
He's an awesome professor. He can drone, but he does little nerdy jokes every now and then. My class hardly talks, so you can see him a little disappointed, but overall, great teacher. Very few assignments, and historical philosophy. He makes you think, instead of memorizing dates.
He is very lecture based and expects you to remember his opinions for the test. Tests are mostly true/false questions with some multiple choice questions. They are lengthy but he does give a curve because many people don't do well on them. Student lead discussions are easy just have to be thought-provoking. Many options for the paper.
Popowski is a cool guy. With that being said, he uses big words that you will not understand in his lectures. The tests are in "As we discussed in class" form and there are 50 questions with some True or False. You will not learn anything in this class because all you do is go over Readings everyday. Attendance is not mandatory. Very lecture heavy.
Professor Popowski is a great guy and will always help you out if you were to go in and ask for it. This class is EXTREMELY lecture heavy and nothing is taken from the book so don't bother buying it. Attendance is not mandatory beyond the first week but if you skip this class and/or don't listen to his lectures you will fail guaranteed.
So, I've had prof. Popowski twice now (HIST1301 & 1302), and can definitely say that he is great at what he does. Never seen a man teach this enthusiastically before. Classes are entirely lecture-based over the "course readings" (posted online) and student participation makes a world of a difference. Tests are primarily over the lecture material.
Although it is lecture heavy, he makes you think outside the box. He is one of the best history professors I have come across. Doesn't give a lot of assignments, gives great feedback and shows genuine interest in what you have to say. Pay attention, put in some effort and you will be rewarded. Truly great professor, would definitely take him again!
by far the worst history prof I've ever had. His lectures are all over the place, constantly mumbles. There's no handouts or powerpoints ever. He mainly writes on the board but then again his handwriting is basically scribbles. The test is straight from the lectures and is super hard. If you're looking for an easy a class, choose another prof.
This professor was great. He respects students and is always available to help. I would recommend.
The class is all lecture based, don't bother buying the book it will not help. The tests are extremely specific on his philosophies and readings discussed each day. Test questions worded according to his lectures, so if you don't go to class, there is almost no way to identify his argument. The class is more philosophy than history honestly.
His tests are based off what he says in class. Recommend you write everything that's on the board and expand on it in your notes. All you have to do is pay attention and you'll get a good grade.. so don't skip class. Seriously.. pay attention in class. He's very passionate about history and respects what you say in class.
This Professor was very kind, but his brain was scattered all over the place. I took this class to learn about the FACTS of history, but the tests were based on his opinions. Very hard to study for the tests because there were not any reviews. You just have to remember what he did and did not say about each topic.
Popowski is a pretty good professor in my opinion. His class is more of a philosophy class than a history class. Do not expect to learn facts and dates in this course. Lectures and tests are heavily opinion based but are still relatively easy to follow. Popowski's thoughts can be a little unorganized at times but I would still highly recommend him.
This class is easy to ace if you show up and take notes. Professor Popowski approaches history from a philosophical standpoint rather than just throwing out names and dates, which I found refreshing. Attendance is not mandatory but it is essential to succeed - and his discussions are engaging and interesting. I would take him again :-)
Overall great guy, looks at history from a relatively objective standpoint. Really goes into the philosophy of history and those who helped shape it. Would highly recommend, suggest showing up to most if not all classes as his tests are more about what he specifically says in class rather than material covered.
Taken this professor multiple times and highly recommend! Western Civilization II was a great class everyone should take, very informative. Engaging readings are assigned each week to stimulate conversation in-class. Lectures cover a lot of ground quickly while being coherent. Grades on 3 tests, one paper, and a singular reading assignment.
Take his class he is awesome.
Easy A in this class .
He is so kind and he is an easy history professor.
Do yourself a favor and sign up for the class he is one of the best History professor at Collin.
Popowski is pretty good professor. His class is more of a philosophy class than a history class. Lectures and tests are heavily opinion based but are still relatively easy to follow. I would recommend him cause you can get a easy A if you work on it. It is not a difficult class and he is very respectful.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken in college. Did not study for either tests and made A's on both. He is a very caring guy who loves history and could talk about it for days. Don't expect this to be like a normal history class. Take him.
I took prof Popowski for a maymester and summer 1 course and he is the best. If you don't come to class you WON'T pass. I typically do not enjoy history classes but they way he explains everything is so interesting because he goes over little details that most professors don't think about. Pls take his class!! he is so passionate about history
This class was a waste of my time. Lectures are philosophical, and I learned nothing pertaining to history. Took him for a summer course& theres literally 5 grades: 2 tests, 2 student led discussion, & paper. Tests are mostly T or F on what he said in class, the textbook was useless. Unless you understand what he is talking about it'll be difficult
I feel like the ratings previous to mine are pretty accurate. This professor is very nice and undoubtedly passionate about the subject. He basically speaks the whole time and goes over our assigned readings during class. He gets a little disorganised and frantic, but overall I don't regret taking him. Good option for a history professor!
do NOT take his class it is not your usual history class it is the PHILOSOPHY OF HISTORY. the class is based on reading he assigns you and he talk about what he thinks happend. i would not recommend at all.
*Philosophy* of History. He's equally awkward and articulate but incredibly knowledgeable about history. HOWEVER, he's not going to really discuss the philosophy of the era you're in. He's basically proselytizing his take on it. Tests are what goes on in class :"Did I say this or this?" The class was EASY for me, but I can be hard for others.
Best professor ever
You don't really have to do anything except show up and pay attention. IF you know what his lectures cover then you will pass the class. it's that simple. Lots of reading "required" but I hardly read anything assigned since it was not graded and I still pass with flying colors. His lectures are interactive and more of a conversation with students
does not give alot of work at all. There are 3 exams and are all based of his lectures. I skipped alot and still managed to get a good grade on the test. Its kinda common sense and not that difficult. Gives you a paper to write and gives you all semester to do it. It is not that hard. I only wish he gave some sort of extra credit.
Insightful and charismatic. His Western Civilization class comes from a philosophical approach and was entirely lecture-based but was engaging. The semester consisted of only 4 exams which were very straightforward (he posts reviews and outlines of his lectures, which the exams are based on), two discussions, and a 5 page research paper.
SO this is a great choice for an online history class. His guidelines are very straightforward and he will clarify if you don't understand the syllabus. There is a lot of reading to do. There is one paper to write which there is more than enough time. As long as you read the readings posted for lecture and textbook you will pass easily.
First, I want to say that I got an A in the History 1302 class I took with Professor Mark Popowski and it was the 5 week accelerated semester, so I can't compare it with someone who takes a full 16 week course. This class was all about out interpreatations on our thoughts and interpretation on what influences historical development and took a deep
There's a lot of participation in his class, but with the right amount of silence he'll keep going. He doesn't really teach, but rambles about your topic. He WILL talk your ear off. If you put together notes from what's written on the board you should be fine. There's a new topic almost every time, so skipping isn't recommended.
Great professor, I would have gotten an A if I did all my assignments. He made history enjoyable. Very easy to talk to and cares about the students success. The lectures made the prereads easy to understand. Test are all multiple choice and wordy so the first text was difficult because I was overwhelmed with exam. Read all material for class and it
This is the hardest course I have taken in college. It is not meant to be difficult but Professor Popowski is a very difficult grader with insanely hard assignments. I read through all the material but in the quizzes/exams he overcomplicates most questions with difficult vocabulary typically used in upper level english classes. I do not recommend.
The homework load was easy. All his quizzes and exams are from his lectures and discussions, which made studying easy (as long as you do your homework). I didn't like that some due dates were not clearly stated in my opinion and that the homework was due at 5pm. I work full time and have to pick up and drop off my brother so I struggled with that.
This professor was terrible. He only wrote on the board with horrible handwriting. He couldn't organize any lessons very well. Quizzes and exams are based on his thoughts on history, and his lessons are philosophical. It was tough to understand what he was thinking. I could pass this course because my friends and I helped each other with notes.
He teaches history in a way that is very confusing, he teaches philosophy and not history. The exams are very difficult to understand and very long.
Lessons are disorganized, exams and quizzes are based on HIS OPINION instead of actual history. His lessons and homework are philosophical. Hard to understand. Do not take this professor.
good luck
He is extremely consistent with timing - weekly quizzes, but they aren't difficult if you pay attention. He expects you to think about things, so it isn't all memorization of dates and names. He's funny and engaging and extremely knowledgeable on his subjects and obviously really likes teaching.
Dr. Popowski is an incredible professor. Some comments say he teaches "HIS opinion, not History." This shows they don't understand what it means to be a historian - which is fine. But it's not right or wrong like math. If you get a degree in History, you'll learn the discipline is about making a claim/argument, and backing it up with evidence.
