I enjoyed the class. It really made me think about how I approach my dealings with other people and where I stand on certain issues. He was always willing to go over something I didn't understand (which happens more than I want to admit) and his sense of humor made what could have been a dry class fun. He is the kind of person I like to know.
He is one of my favorites so far! Philosophy is one of those classes that could go really bad, but the dynamic that Reed provides in the classroom makes it perfect, lots of fun! I hated having to miss his class, very interesting!
Easy tests if you study. Not afraid to start debates on controversial topics... if you have some deeply held beliefs, and you aren't able to back them up, prepare to get shot down. It can get a little harsh. Definetly interesting classes- not for people unwilling to think outside the box, or for folks who dont like to have their beliefs challenged.
kick ass guy. although he made fun of blind guys, long story, i liked the class and he was a great prof.
Gets off topic a lot, but its an easy A if you do the reading.
Fun class. You really have to study for the exams. Mr. Reed does get off topic a lot but thats only because he lets the students discuss any & everything. I enjoyed it.
He was a really good teacher who was really into all of the lectures!
He is always willing to help you understand. Very well informed. Easy just go to class and read the material the test come straight from the books.
He challenges you to think in his class and encourages discussion. Philosophy can be a hard topic, but if you take good notes and study the test reviews, it's not hard to get a good grade.
Awesome teacher, if you have to take a philosophy class take him. Hes really cool and very nice. Will let you turn in homework up until last day of class.
Mr. Reed a very helpful teacher, willing to work with you if you need to miss tests. Fun in- class discussions. Insightful and informative! I will be taking his ethics class as well because hes such a great teacher!
very informative, good lectures most of the time and can clarify his points well, however he is very inconsistent about uploading the notes online, and even worse about posting or returning grades on tests, final exams etc...
Extremely easy, blowoff class. He is very nice
awesome prof. just study the notes and some of the test and you'll get an A. Prof appreciates humor so add some of that element to your essay and you'll pass with flying colors
Mark is extremely knowledgeable and engaging in his lectures. The material is easy enough if you do the assigned reading and pay attention in class. Asside from the reading, there were two position papers, a take home test mid-term, and four combined test. Highly recommended. Too bad he doesn't teach logic as well.
You must show up to this class to get a good grade.
Mr. Reed's class is really entertaining and he is very knowledgable. I really enjoyed his lectures and learned alot. He gives you essay questions for the test ahead of time which is really nice. His multiple choice and true/false questions are poorly worded and worth more than they should be.
nice guy, fun lecture, have to read too much, test can be kinda hard, he is a little unorganized, didn't have files posted on campus cruiser we needed, lost papers, take him but show up every day and make sure you read as much as possible, and make sure he gets your paper
great guy, i enjoyed his class... you must read out of books! he's willing to give extra credit to help you out on grades, it really is a fun class, he'll pick on you to discuss on topics soooo don't try to hide from him or look away cause he'll really pick on you.... ;-)
The lectures are blah but get 5 pts for attending but will take it away if missed more than 3 days. Test are 26 mutiply choice and w/4 questions, which he gives you before test to prepare. Also, 2 writing assignments. The class was hard for me. All about different theories and all the rebuttals against them. I wanted to know what is the point in kn
lecture is kind of boring, but some topics are fun to talk about. he is very cooky and entertaining at times. tests are kind of weird but he gives reviews before each, sometimes helpful. final not comprehensive. short answer q's on the test but tells you them ahead of time. 2 outside assignments. dont really have to go to class. indifferent!
Very very interesting class. Real good at teaching philosophy and has lots of point of views. I hated missing his class which is weird for me.
It was an easy class. All the notes are online and he gives you specific pages out of the book to read. There's two essays and you will pass the tests as long as you read the book and study the notes. Pretty entertaining he's funny sometimes but a little biased I think. But who isn't?
Loved this guy. had him for Ethic. Some of the test you had to write a essay! He was fair and graded fair. He is very nice and cares for his students. Just don't get on his bad side and you will be alright. I got a A, so I was not on the bad list.
He was a pretty good teacher. He lectures for the entire class, and sometimes it's boring. He's really passionate about his subject, but sometimes it gets awkward when nobody else in the class is. Most of the time the students are too intimidated to answer back. If you like to get into dicussions during class, he's probably your kind of teacher.
His lectures were quite boring but his class is impossible to fail, or at least that's what I felt. He gives you so much extra credit opportunities (over 50 points) that I believe it's impossible to fail if you did all of them. He also has a fair share of essay assignments that I didn't enjoy but were fairly easy.
You must attend and read material to be able to do pretty well in this class. Yes, there is a lot to read but once you get to read the material it becomes very interesting and you want to read more. I love Philosophy now. Extremely interesting material. Very easy going guy. Take this class!
This class was fairly easy... especially because I find it hard to fail with all the extra credit points he gives out. His tests are alright... I never liked professors who have any sort of short answer essay/essay questions on their tests and he has short answer essay ?'s on every one of them. Not too hard though.
Professor Reed knows his philosophy. His is cool and laidback. If you keep your mind open and read, you should do well. 27 questions with 3 essay questions on each test. The questions are given to you on the review. I will take his Logic class in the fall. Well worth the taking for philosophy.
He does seem a little biased towards belief in God, but doesn't over do it, I don't think. I feel I opposed his views in several of my test essays and as long as you back up your argument he gives full credit. He makes the class interesting, engaging and makes you think. His central theme was "know why you believe what you believe."
I'm taking his PHIL1301 online in the summer session. So far, I find that as long as you commit yourself to doing the work he lays out and keep yourself organized, its easy to get a good grade in his class. He's very organized online and its a fairly easy online class. I emailed him with a question and he got back to me quickly.
He is a very good teacher, who LOVES what he does. His tests get progressively harder, but as long as you do his reviews and read the section he notes, you will do fine. Very good lectures and are never boring. If i had to take another Phil class, i would chose him. You wont be disappointed. TAKE HIM
lots of interesting thoughts,if taking him online be able to dedicate at least 21 hours a week to this class. lots of reading and comprehension. Test are worded to confuse you. and you jump around the book to much.
Great teacher! he loves philosophy and makes it very interesting. he knows his stuff! GREAT teacher take him he is awesome!!
He loves ethics, the entire class was always absent... of the 35 students I think 9 went regularly. I went to a few classes and studied on my own and pulled off a C. I just was not interested in how he taught it, but good teacher.
I took Mr. Reed online and it was a nightmare! I spent HOURS studying for his exams and I was never pleased with my results. He is completely careless in his teaching and inconsiderate to his students. He didn?t even take the time to proofread his exams because there were many spelling errors and poorly worded questions.
I was real hesitant about the class at first, but after awhile you kind of catch on.Pay attention, take notes, and use the test review he gives and you will do fine. he has a real philosophical sense of humor. I liked him.
As far as online instructors go, this is one of the better structured classes I've taken. Guy loves what he's doing and, had I known this before, I would have taken the class in person. He's not great at responding to emails or grading in a timely manner but the upside is that the subjective grading in this course appears to be pretty easy.
Taking online. I have learned so much from this class. Professor gives easy extra credit assignments to improve your grade. Does not respond to emails quickly, but is a great teacher. Would recommend this teacher.
Understands the subject and certainly likes and enjoys logic, still working on ways to relate subject to people using everyday terms and get the message across, YOU MUST SHOW UP, YOU MUST READ THE BOOK, ask specific questions if needed, logic is a specific subject. eg, logic uses words we all know, but definitions are integral and very specific.
Really good helpful teacher. He is willing to work with the students to help them in the class. He responds to e-mails quickly. The class was kind of hard in my opinion but I was able to get an A because he gives easy extra credit assignments. I didn't care for the class but he was a good teacher.
Lesson 2 quiz covered things from lessons 3 and 4. I had no idea what I was supposed to be studying to prepare for tests and quizes. The lessons never aligned with the asignments or quizes. The class seems interesting, I just had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.
Awesome awesome awesome
He really makes you think. well considering hes a philosophy teacher... Class overall isnt hard. Just go to his lectures and the test are then pretty easy.
I really enjoy this class.
Great teacher, good lectures, good class discussions, and if you have an interest in philosophy and show up to class and read your book, you should have no problem receiving an A.
I took his online class - very easy. Quizs come straight from the book. Assignments are fun - lots of discussion board posts. He is fast with posting grades and is very organized. Really makes you think outside of the box - great teacher. I received a B+ in his class.
I really enjoyed this class. Mr. Reed may the class enjoyable and really made me think about things from all perspectives. Lots of reading and writing, but overall it was a pretty easy going class. I would definitely take this professor again!
This class is not for everyone! I loved it because it was challenging and makes for great practical application in the real world. If you aren't willing to devote the time to study and comprehension, you won't do well. Mr. Reed is a great educator and loves what he does. I can't wait to take his ethics class in the fall!
I would NOT advise taking this class in the summer. Lots of reading, lots of writing. His tests are tricky.
This class is not for everyone. He can be confusing at times. His Tests are very difficult. He is a nice person and he loves his Yogurt. If you do not focus and go to class you will fail.
Mr. Reed is a nice teacher, however his class was like torture for me. Unless you are a huge fan of thinking outside of the box and having other students get pissed because their views don't align with yours, don't take this class!
Phil or Ethics is not for everyone. Mr. Reed is a very nice person, always willing to help. His test are quite hard, it is the wording of the questions that make them difficult. If you do not enjoy phil, thinking critically then you probably should look for another course for your Humanities credit.
Because it's Philosophy, the writing assignments can be fairly simple, pick a stance, argue and give insightful thoughts. The problems come from the exam's, the wording and and positioning of the question really can be confusing. But he is a nice guy, and class lectures can be entertaining.
One of the best teachers I've had so far. Very interesting material and discussions. Really gets the students to think for themselves and question their beliefs. Tests are pretty easy and straightforward (over topics covered in class and in the book). Offers extra credit and posts the notes online. Very nice guy. I want to take all of his classes.
Awesome Professor! I had him for logic, and it was a fun, interesting class. He is very helpful.
DL CLASS- Class divided into 5 units, each with a quiz, DB topic, and test. There are 2 writing assignments plus 3 extra credit assignments. The course is interesting and will make you think outside the box. Just engage and you will pass the class and if you dig into the material you should definitely get an "A". This professor is awesome!
4 exams, 1 final exam, 5 discussion boards and has to reply to someone else's discussion board, 5 quizzes after the first two required reading pages, 1 outside assignment about 6 books. He drops the lowest grade on a exam, discussion board, and quiz. The exam & quiz are timed. Quiz has one short answer question. Exam has two short answer question.
Best Teacher I have had in my years at college. I strongly recommend taking his intro to philosophy class. His presentations are not about what philosophy is right or wrong, moreover what the studied philosopher thought upon metaphysics, ethics, and more.
Great professor, class can be challenging. but he knows how to help and is willing to.
Ethics. Its a cool class, material wise, but the actual class is pretty annoying. The people who take this class are some of the most obnoxious people who think they're experts or something. However, the class is easy if you read the book and read his reviews that he posted. I barely listened to his lecture and got an A.
This teacher was so cool, he's funny and makes you interested in Philosophy, don't buy the book, I did and I never opened it. He has engaging lectures that start up interesting conversations, just study the review for the tests, and you should make a decent grade, overall cool teacher nothing bad about him.
Mr. Reed is a great teacher he responds very quickly to emails. The work s pretty easy. He also gives 3 extra credit assignments. Very easy to get an A in this class
He is awesome! gives extra credit, and will do whatever it takes to help you in the class! He also hands out a study review before the test, it's best you review material in the book if you aren't understanding the material. Very laid back guy, and is willing to listen to any opinions!!! I def. Recommend!!!
GREAT teacher. You are tested over the material in the lessons he posts in each unit. Take time to read and you'll be fine. He sends out emails each time you go into a new unit and there is helpful info in there too. Very open teacher. He won't grade you poorly if he disagrees with your opinion. He looks for a well developed answer/argument. 10/10!
I like Mr Reed. He was clear on expectations & he replied to my emails fairly quickly when I had questions. This is college, you need to actually read the material, which if you do, you'll be fine. I enjoyed this class, and if you're unsure which professor to take for this course, do take him--you will not regret it.
Not a super easy class but Professor Reed is a very open minded teacher. You must read the pages he assigns! If not you will fail the quiz's and tests! Grades fairly easily and very fair. As long as you seem confident and strong in your opinions, you will always get A's on the DB's and short answer questions.
He assigns all your work at begining of the semester so you can do it at your own pace. He is very open minded, his tests are not very easy but if you study notes from class and read your book you should pass. He knows a lot listen and learn
Very fair with grades even gives you options for extra credit. But you have to read what he assigns or else you will not do good. Loved the class.
Great teacher! 5 tests, quizzes and discussion boards.. Drops the lowest of each one.. Gives extra credit.. Easy to make an A.. You just have to do the work and read... I skimmed through lessons and still made an A!!
Reed is pretty good. He sometimes gets off on tangents but he's pretty funny. I learned more from reading the lessons he posts on blackboard than from the lectures, but if you like expressing your views and getting in debates, the class is pretty much discussion based. Make sure to read the lessons and you'll do fine.
His lectures are entertaining and he makes it very easy to understand. The tests are easy so long as you actually read the material ( which you should, since this is college ). The only problem is the wording on the questions can get a little confusing some times. He does give out extra credit.
Pretty fun and interesting class whenever we had class discussions. However the only grades he counts are the exams and essays so make sure you study before each test to make an A. All of the answers are in the book and review paper he posts. So as long as you study you'll make an A. He is very nice but isn't always clear on his instructions.
Professor Reed is awesome. At first, I was kind of unsure about his class, because he's definitely a philosopher, and very confusing. But he's a great guy and he'll always help you when you need it. Tests aren't bad at all if you do the reading. Would definitely recommend.
Mr. Reed is a great teacher, he cares and is willing to stay after class to work on a problem. He's funny, def need a book! Gives homework and extra credit.
Mr, Reed is very supportive if logic isn't your strong point take him. HIS OFFICE HOURS ARE YOUR FRIEND TO PASS.
Professor Reed is intelligent with the charisma to really get the class going into discussing. Class is very simple, minimal notes, and you get a lot of prep time for anything. If you need a elective credit take Mr. Reed for Philosophy.
This class is hard. Lots of reading.
This class is too hard for a introductory class. He asks essay questions on exams that are hard.
Mr. Reed is a fantastic professor. He strikes a great balance between introducing fairly difficult concepts and keeping it straightforward and practical. Tests are not too hard, the essay questions are more about your ability to communicate logically than the original material. He is very passionate about philosophy and about passing that on.
Prof. Reed is amazing. Easy class, he is a good man. I will miss him.
I am not in to Philosophy and actually enjoyed this class. There are short quizzes, 30ish question exams, discussion board assignments, and two short homework papers. 5 topics you pick which 2 you want to do. The other 3 are left for extra credit. Not difficult at all and often gives extra time to complete assignments. Would take again.
I honestly didn't like this class at all, but I think I was just stuck with some sucky classmates. We got off topic too much and my grade struggled because of it, so I swung by Professor Reed's office and asked for help. He offered me an easier extra credit alternative and told me how I could improve my studying to do better on his tests.
Take advantage of extra credit! I took his honors class and though the class was not hard I did not understand the material. I wish I had taken advantage of the extra credit offered. He does not offer much but jump on it. I enjoyed the class and his lectures were interesting I just did not like the material.
For a 2000 level course, I felt he was giving work as if I was in Grad school because of the difficulty and amount. The amount of reading was beyond anything I have ever done for any other course, and I'm a senior. He graded pretty tough and his exams were already hard enough. I would not take this professor again.
I really enjoyed his class. He was engaging even though some of the students were a bit rude to him. He was also very understanding of peoples schedules since I did it in a summer class.
Took this class online sum2, BAD IDEA, ton of reading. His lectures were on word doc each lesson had 5 subjects that were min of 5pg. Like I said it was a lot of reading. I will say that it was interesting, There are 5DB, 5quiz, 5exams. He gives 3extra credits up to 30pts- DO THEM! Overall I enjoyed the class, just don't take it for summer online.
I love Professor Reed! He's definitely one of the best I've taken. He takes Philosophy very passionately and I think that really helps if you're new to the subject. He's very entertaining but his lessons are always on topic. (If you need help with the class, he's very reachable)
Took this class online, It was a very tough class. I felt it was very hard to understand his expectations. Quiz's and Test's included T/F, fill in the blank, multiple choice and essay questions, which were not very easy. This is the first class that I really struggled in. Not sure if it was the instructor or the material.
Ugh! Worst decision in my life, stay away from him and his wife's history class.
He wasn't a bad teacher or anything, but his hour and a half class seemed to go on for three hours. Luckily, on most days he let us out 30-40 minutes early. His tests were harder than I would think for intro to phil and what we covered in class wasn't really relevant to the tests. I was looking forward to this class but it wasn't what I expected.
This class was pretty tough and you have a 1000 page essay to write. There is a lot of reading to do, but he gives you plenty of time to do it. Extra credit given. The tests are hard and he is a strict grader, but it was interesting to learn and I would recommend taking this professor.
Mr Reed is a good instructor, read the lessons before class. He pretty much lectures right from the lessons. Interesting class, the more you participate the better your learning experience.
I took this class online so unfortunately I didn't get the chance to meet Professor Reed, but I really enjoyed his lectures. They were not that stressful and he doesn't give trick question. If you read your lectures and take notes along the way you will make an A. Philosophy is interesting but sometimes I find it to be a bit draining on it's own
Professor Reed is of the greatest teachers I have ever had. His lectures are fun and incredibly informative. He is a really nice guy and is very willing to help. He got an MA from UT, which is top-tier. If it weren't for Reed, I wouldn't be succeeding in college as a philosophy major. He's also very fair and not biased (open to all beliefs).
Prof Reed was a good teacher. Sometimes he would be a little unclear about due dates but everything else was good. Very willing to help students but it is better to go to his office because he won't usually respond to emails. Easy A for me.
If you show up and study the lessons he's posted, you will make an A. It's not a hard class, you just have to do the work and study. Lectures are interesting and very engaging with the class. He uses good examples to help us understand certain concepts. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and is always available during office hours.
mr. Reed is really good at what he does. If you read the online study guides you will do fine on the exam. Class is not mandatory, and he does not make you buy a book for the class. its an interesting class, I would take him as a teacher again.
Mr. Reed's class was interesting but the test were somewhat tough, though he gives extra credit and a bonus on the test to help you pass the course. No book is needed, so take notes and pay attention to his lessons.
Dr Reed is great &makes u fall in love w philosophy. He wrote the chapters u read for class & they sound just like his lectures (They're not boring) He captures ur attention & even draws diagrams to help u understand if ur lost. Easy A if you show up and listen. Tests are fairly easy. Loved his class. Will take again for Ethis and Logic.
Professor Reed is a great teacher. There is definitely not a lack of reading and work for this class, but if you do the work, it's an easy grade. He offers up front extra credit. I took a summer online course so I would assume a regular course would be less intense. I enjoyed the class and earned an A by completing all work and doing 1 extra credit
Professor Reed is awesome. He's very good at giving his own explanations to the concepts he's teaching. He doesn't straight read off of the board, but he already has what he wants to say in mind. The best part of this class is that he gets you to question your own beliefs. Why do you think the way you do? I believe his philosophy class is essential
Prof Reed is one of the best professors you will run into. His goal is to make sure you know why you believe what you believe. His class was slighty challenging mentally but this is def a course everyone should take once in their life. Our class literally applauded him on the last day. He also gives extra credit and is super helpful! Loved it.
Took him online always returned emails by the next day, same day if sent early. Syllabus and class very well defined and easy to follow. He made class interesting
Mr. Reed was okay. I read some reviews on him prior to registering, so I was hopeful. When I got to class on the first day he seemed very scatterbrained. Monotone. Boring boring lectures. On the bright side, you don't have to buy a textbook because he writes his own. If you keep up with the reading you will be fine on tests! Offers^2 30 pts X CRED!
Boriiiiinnggggg. We spend the entire class listening to him drone on and on while we wait for our impending demise. We can never cover enough material and your grade in this class is entirely based on tests. No quizzes or study guides. The tests are also horribly formatted and he is always very poorly prepared.
Reed loves what he teaches; the discussion-based class format cemented the concepts in my mind so I have barely had to study for any exams. His deadpan jokes make class time fun. One caveat is that his exam questions are often spelled wrong and/or numbered wrong and/or missing. But he realizes after the exam and mends our scores accordingly. 10/10.
Gives great insight, but the topics are complicated and hard to grasp. Studying is a must to pass
My class is really quiet and weird, they hardly say anything even when he asks questions,so its awkward. He is a really good professor though, you do not have to buy a book. He is very open minded and his reviews match the test and are pretty straight forward. Recommend!
Exams are easy. Multiple choice and 2 essays of your choice, which you get ahead of time. Professor Reed is funny, so lecture isn't too bad. As for content . . . I don't think I learned anything useful. Easy.
although i liked this professor, i struggled in this class. the lectures were great! he's very sarcastic also but it's cool. for some reason the exams were hard for me, I could get anything pass a C. he offers extra credit so that's a plus. he's vet knowledgeable when he's teaching. overall, he's cool and understanding. i would recommend.
I took this class online in a 5-week summer semester. This class was great and he provides all the materials you need to understand the subject. He wants you to read between the lines and loves to read a good argument. He is always willing and quick to answer questions. I would gladly take another class from him.
Often when he speaks he's speaking from the POV of whoever he's talking about. One day he could say one thing, the next say the complete opposite. His study guide was exactly what was on the text. Pay attention in class and you'll pass the tests. he also Isn't there to try to convince you of any philosophical view. Just to get you to think about it
Mr. Reed is very laid back and super cool. I had him for my intro to Philosophy class and loved it. He really makes you think about life and you will go into very deep discussions and debate during class, which is the coolest part. He is not afraid to challenge you and he is very funny while doing so. Be ready to question yourself and your beliefs!
Professor Reed really makes you question your thinking while being a great teacher. He offers extra credit and his tests are exactly like the study guide, so getting an A is easy if you try. If you miss a class it's okay, but he likes if you participate in class discussions. Go to his office hours if you are struggling, he will try to help you.
I was a bit skeptical before taking this class, but I really enjoyed it. It actually became my favorite class because it challenged me to see things differently. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to take philosophy.
Great online class, read the lesson notes and you should find all the answers to the quizzes and exams there. Gives you a study guide with three questions for you to answer so you can already have them done by the time the exam comes. easy class, you juts have to read notes and participate in discussion boards.
No textbook to buy. All material online. While it's probably not necessary to show up every class, you would be missing out on a LOT of interesting discussions. Class itself is very easy. I took no notes and didn't really study, and still got an A. 5 Unit Exams (including final), 2 critical thinking assignments, and 1 reflection assignment.
Textbook necessary, both to learn and for HW. 10 HW assignments from the book spread through the semester. 5 Unit Exams. You'll want to attend class, as some of the concepts in the book are not immediately intuitive, and you'll want to talk about them. Reed is pretty laid back, and willing to banter and discuss random things if not behind schedule.
Mr. Reed has become one of my favorite professors. I really wish that I could continue taking him for more classes. The textbook is free since writes it himself and there are 5 exams. One the lowest grades out of the first four will be replaced the fifth exams exam which is the final but it is non comprehensive.
Really good teacher, he was cool and if you need help he's always there. interesting class discussions. I missed a lot of classes and still ended up with a B. he gives reviews and has a whole day he goes over them. He gives 4 test and he drops ur lowest one plus there is a non comprehensive final.
THIS WAS MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR! I loved his philosophy class. He wants to corrupt the youth and surprisingly he does haha. He is hilarious, he has good amount of extra credit, 5 tests drops one; 25 multiple choice and 1 essay. Plus some cool assignments that make you question a lot. If you're open minded you will love this class.
Took his online Philosophy class during Summer 1 and really enjoyed it. Fairly easy class. There should be no reason to obtain anything less than an A. Quizzes and Exams are based on the material provided, there's not book needed, and allows more than enough extra credit up to 30 points. Drops a quiz and exam. I would definitely take again.
Reed is a good guy funny too, i really enjoyed this class even at first i thought i would hate it. If i had to take another philosophy-esque class again i would take him. I highly recommend him. How to pass? read the notes and study the review easy.
I loved this class and professor Reed is so entertaining and gives great lectures and scenarios to actually allow you to learn. I was worried going in but the tests are not too hard if you go to class, listen, take notes and go over them before the test. He gave 30 points extra credit and dropped a test to help us out! Very understanding guy!!!
This professor is great. He uses his own material so need need to get a book. He gives 30 points in extra credit!! His lectures are wonderful and the class discussion help so much!! The test are 15 multiple choice and 15 true/ false, with one essay. He even gives you the essay questions a head of time. Great great professor can not say enough, A+++
Awesome professor!! He is so super nice and I never dreaded gong to class. I had trouble on his test because his lectures would not stick in my head so I ended up teaching myself some. I passed his test but he does give extra credit which brought me up a WHOLE letter grade ! I must say I had an empty feeling leaving the final exam :( ill miss him!
Philosophy is hard. At least for me it was. Professor Reed was great though. He provided so many ways to learn the material and that really helped. He has 2 FRQ's per test, but he gives you them before the test so that you can prepare the answers before hand. He gives you plenty of chances for extra credit from the beginning of the semester.
Took him in his 5 week summer course. He makes the text book so you wont have to buy one. Tests are multiple choice with 1 open ended question. He will give you the questions before hand so all you have to do is copy and paste. You will read a lot but you will learn a lot. He also offers extra credit. I made a B. Great Professor.
plenty of discussion boards, a very interactive class. Professor Reed really cares and wants to empower his students with philosophy. A life-changing class in my opinion.
Great class for introduction to philosophy. Gives good test reviews and gives good lectures, however you do have to go over the lectures. Professor Reed is passionate about philosophy and this is an interesting class to learn about wisdom!
I took professor Reed PHIL-1301 during my first may-mester. He is an amazing professor who added humor and a lot of opportunities to raise your grade through extra credit to his class. His exams are around 26-27 questions long with two short answer responses he allows you to have pre-written before you take the exam. Overall would I recommend him
I'm not the best at philosophy, but nonetheless it's something I really enjoy learning about. Prof. Reed does a great job at teaching it and making it fun. There's extra credit opportunities that are easy peasy, and don't fret about the short essay answers, he basically gives you the answers when he goes over the study guides in class.
Professor Reed was an absolute marvel. His great storytelling and keeping the lectures interesting and open for discussion. I had always been interested in Philosophy and he was the perfect guy to teach it. 110% Recommended.
Great Prof, and even better person i work 50 hours a week ontop of a full 12 hours at TCC, at the start of the semester i told him and he helped me oh so much, even going as far as to calling me and walking me thru the HW. I took this class to knock out a math credit i need for UTA. Pay attention and communicate and put forth some effort.
Really awesome and understanding, the class absolutely sucked and I wouldn't take it again if you paid me, but I loved the prof.
Professor Reed is very kind and funny, his whole method of teaching is reading off a word document but he includes his own anecdotes and knowledge. He doesn't assign any homework except for one quiz for every unit over the first two lessons and a test that is multiple choice and includes a short answer that he lets you see in advance.
One of the best teachers that I ever had. Cares about the students and makes the class fun. Quiz after every 2 lessons and there is extra credit to bring up your grade if you are not doing good in there even though his class is really easy. Only thing you would have to do is study outside of class but easy class and I would take him again if I can.
Overall, he's a good person. I just cant stand what he teaches. His part of the lectures are usually boring, never remembered much from them. He's a bit scattered. Hard to take notes in class. Study guides WERE NOT helpful and usually was just a big paragraph of text that felt really unorganized and not easy to study. He's chill, but steer clear.
I took him for the maymester and am taking him again this fall. Amazing professor, open-minded and is there to help you. Class is not hard and he gives chances to gain extra credit. If you are on the fence, definitely take him.
Just finished taking Mr. Reed for a maymester and the class was great. Mr. Reed really shows you a new way of thinking when it comes to different things and makes the class fun with jokes and the way he teaches his lectures. Class was very chill, gives students multiple extra credit assignments which were super easy to do. Easy A+.
He is nice, caring, and most importantly passionate about what he teaches. I recommend you take the class during the long semester to learn more. I took it during may-mister. He offers 3 extra credit opportunities, which are super fun to do. Just take his class if you get the chance, you'll view the world very differently after this class.
I did not knew anything about philosophy and his class made me love and want to know more about philosophy! He is a great professor and he gives you 3 extra credit which is easy and boosts your grades by alot!
I never felt like the class ever started, I never found any of the information important or interesting. I do not find him funny or entertaining. I just wanted to take this class for the credit instead I go the most boring class of my life. Out of all the class at this community college this is the class I most regret taking.
Mark is a great professor! This is the second semester I have taken him. His class really makes you think. He also loves group participation so don't be afraid to argue. Exams are easy if you study. He gives out study guides and essay topics the class before an exam. As long as you attend class, you will pass!
Very funny professor, asks funny questions. Overall time flies in his class. Work wise exam reviews are exactly what you'll see on the test, so review a couple of days before your exam and you should be good. I think he was exactly what I thought he'd be from the reviews, and he was. Love mr.reed
Professor Reed is hilarious, so the lectures tend to be pretty amusing. He is not overly hard on grading. Extra credit is also offered. He provides reviews for the tests which are exactly what you will be texted on. One of the classes and professors that actually helped me retain my sanity throughout the semester. 10/10 recommend.
He pretty good. Yeah.
One of the best professors, in my opinion, and one of my favorites. I have taken both his philosophy courses and will be taking his last offered course, logic, next semester. He is kind, hilarious, very personable, and cares about you and your grades. You will not regret taking his class.

Literally this class was so challenging for me, I was just doing everything I could to pass the class with a least a C and get the credit and be done. As long as you read over the lessons and study guides before class/exams you'll do fine. DO THE EXTRA CRED!!
Overall, a very good professor, the only thing is that if you struggle with true/false on tests beware that he does like to use a lot of those in his tests so be sure to really understand the material. I struggled a lot with this class but if you do all of the extra credit it really helps a lot.
Probably the greatest professor I've had in college so far. We'd occasionally get off topic, but never did it take all class. Tests were fairly easy. 50 or so questions and then a short response essay. Always got a 10 on my responses. Still says hi to me whenever I see him on campus passing by.
I wanted to like this class because honestly, Professor Reed is an awesome guy and very funny. But I LOATHED this class. I never understood what was being talked about in class, he went off-topic a lot. The exams were a little difficult, a mix of multiple choice, true and false, and 1 short essay answer. I would not take again.
I took professor Reed for the maymester. You cant miss a class because he only uses the lecture notes as a guide to his lectures. He gives clear guidelines and the tests are fairly easy. He really cares about his students and he encourages class participation. There's plenty of extra credit as well. He makes philosophy fun.
Now this was a fun class. His study guides and notes weren't always the best causing his tests to be somewhat difficult, but his lectures were endlessly entertaining and he was incredibly personable. I don't think you're making a mistake in joining his class.
I took his 2 week intro to philosophy maymester course. It was an efficient way to fulfill that requirement.
Overall a good teacher. A lot of discussion takes place in this class. He gets off topic a lot but it's usually somewhat related to philosophy and I don't mind it since he has a good personality.
Very funny and gives thought-provoking lectures. Gets off topic a lot. Tests are weirdly-worded, but still easy. Infrequent quizzes and not really any other assignments.
One of my favorite professors, his class was super easy to understand especially if you consistently attend lectures. He's funny and sometimes goes off topic but relays the information well. He has good extra credit opportunities + drops lowest exam/quiz grades. It's honestly an easy A in his class, I would take his others if this was my major lol.
Easily one of my favorite professors. He has interesting lectures that had me genuinely looking forward to class. We would get off topic occasionally but that was still entertaining. Expect to participate in class discussions. There are a few online quizzes, a midterm, and a final, but that's it. Attend class and you will easily get an A.
Professor Reed is a great guy. I struggled with his class at first, but with a little bit of intensive studying and doing the extra credit assignments, I was able to come out with an A. My biggest tip for this class would be to download his google documents and input it into an AI note taker to make the notes more digestable.
