His exams are mostly essay but there are also multiple choice and short answer. Text is only for things you don't understand from the lecture. the lab is mostly looking at slides and indentifying structures- He's clear and uses many analogies to explain the concepts. Take 362 or 449 before it.
Dr. Reedy is the man. He's one of the most helpful and knowledgable professors I've had thus far. He can answer almost any question you throw his way, and he goes out of his way to help his students. His tests aren't easy, but he prepares you well. Few multiple choice questions, few short answer, and 2 essays. Embryology is an excellent class.
Excellent teacher. Perhaps the only Creighton Biology professor who is always organized and knows how to run a classroom effeciently. The material was really interesting, he explains it VERY well, he tells you what's important, and the tests are difficult but fair. Not the class to take if you are looking for an easy A, but great nonetheless.
Amazing teacher. He is my favourite teacher on campus. Totally smart and totally willing to help. Very lighthearted and has a great personality toward students.
My favorite professor at CU. Dr. Reedy presents his material in a very detailed manner. Get the text to clarify topics you dont understand in class. His tests have essay and short answer so be ready. The lab is an accurate introduction to real research in embryology. This course will help get you ready for the MCAT and medical school! Hard A++
Dr. Reedy is an awesome professor. His classes are packed because of his great reputation. I'd highly recommend taking any class he teaches. He's a great guy, and will defintely do his best to answer any biology-related question you have. By far my favorite professor at Creighton.
Dr. Reedy is a one of a kind professor. Amazingly brilliant man, but the kind that can hold a conversation with us ley people. Class is not easy, but has increased my interest in this area significantly. He is a highly qualified, proficient professor. Highly recommended.
OMG, this class is hard. I just finished taking it, and I wish I would have never enrolled. I worked my butt of in this class and only got a C+. The tests are not representative over the important material. Just FYI, he also failed 2 of my pre-med friends who are very smart. Pick an easier BIO 300 level course like environmental science.
well it wasn't easy. I got a B+ and studied quite a lot for it. You definately have to put work into the class. He's a very nice guy though and if you go into ask him questions he always clarifies everything for you until you understand. I recommend him.
Great Teacher. Interested in the success of his students. Willing to put in as much time as you are to make sure you understand the material. Clearly an intelligent man and a gifted teacher
The material is not easy, but he makes it understandable as long as you are willing to make an effort to study. Lectures are clear and there aren't any surprises on the tests. Very intelligent man.
Lecture outlines are helpful, he tries his best to explain things. Tests are pretty straight forward and not bad at all. Very intelligent man, go talk to him during his office hours, he'll definitely help you understand better.
He's such a nice guy and his lectures are very clear. Read the book before the lectures and it clarifies things more..something I wish I would've done at the start of the semester. Do that and this class should be cake.
1st year teaching in a field not of his own. Moves through lecture fast and talks that way too. Gives you chapters to read, not sections. Tests are from lecture, everything you read in the book, and lab. So, basically everything. He won't tell you specifically what's on the test, but he'll tell you what's not. Better than nothing. Great professor :
he is a real nice guy. claims tests are 45% lecture, 45% book and 10% lab, but his lectures cover everything in the book but the yellow boxes at the end of each chapter. online book videos are helpful. tests are straight forward.
For a class that covered so much difficult material, I think it was still my favorite class I've taken at Creighton. He is a very interesting to listen to and is always available to help outside of class. Hard work usually seemed to pay off, reading the text book and using the cd really helps.
Well, I suppose taking into account the size of the class and the amount of material covered, he did an okay job, but not fantastic. I think he tried to cram too much in too fast. It's ridiculous to have a cumulative test over 20 chapters.
Dr. Reedy is by far the best biology professor at Creighton. He's incredibly knowledgable and is able to make class very interesting. He also has a pretty good sense of humor, and definitely is worth listening too. 100% my favorite Creighton professor. Make an effort to get to know him - it's worth it. He's the best!
Dr. Reedy is an amazing professor. Yes he speaks fast and yes he crams a lot in, but if you are interested in medicine, GET USED TO IT! He is very easy to talk to and very helpful. To all those Bio 211 kids, no he's not going to assign sec. to read, ITS COLLEGE! I recommend any of Reedy's classes, they are not easy, but they're helpful in the end.
One word: Money. Reedy is money.
Reedy is amazing. Interesting and helpful...very helpful. Class has a ton of info, but if you study you will get the grade you want. Would recommend to any Bio major/Pre-med/Pre-dent student.
Reedy is my personal god. He's brilliant and knows everything. For all the bio 211 kids, consider yourself lucky he's teaching you because its a waste of his talent. I made it a point to take every class he offers.
If had the power at creighton I would give Dr. Reedy 20 year contract so he won't leave creighton. one of the best professor ever. very helpful, clear and knows the material very well. if you have advising help he will always help you. if you are planing for med school, pharm school or any other professional school he is the first choice. A+
Reedy is just a great teacher, and a great guy. He really cares about his students succeeding, and goes out of his way to make sure that you understand the material. I can't wait to take him again!
Great teacher!! take him
Nice teahcer but hated the class.
Dr. Reedy does an excellent job of explaining the material. He is always willing to answer questions even though many people ask really bad questions. Print the slides off and take notes on them in class. His tests do require studying, so definitely look at old tests when studying. Overall a great prof, and he has a sense of humor.
Very tedious material with lots of details, but this prof makes little attempt to summarize. He WILL cover over 20 chapters and you WILL have to learn the majority of the material on your own. Going to class is mandatory for attendance but I absorbed very little from lecture.
I am a Senior Biology major and have taken every class Reedy offers. He is my favorite professor in college. He knows his subject, teaches it well, & so helpful during office hours. If you get to know him he is more than happy to help you with professional school, advice, recs, and steer you in the right direction A ++++
Dr. Reedy is an amazing teacher. He thoroughly explains the material and will answer any questions. Go to class and take notes on the lecture, the book is almost useless. As long as you study the notes from class, tests are very doable.
Dr. Reedy is a world-class instructor. I had him for Gen Bio as well. Any time I struggled with either class he sat down and took the time to go over everything with me. He truly cares about the progress of his students. His lectures are very clear. Study hard and put the time in and you will be fine. One of my favorite professors at Creighton.
Absolutely the best biology professor. He's crystal clear in his expectations and his lectures (which he audiorecords and posts online) make the textbook an absolute waste of money. Understand what he said in class = get an A. He actually made Cell Structure and Function interesting - isn't that enough said?
By nature, this lecture runs extremely fast. Dr. Reedy made clear, understandable presentations. Test questions are sometimes detailed and do not fully capture the "main idea." Overall, pretty good.
He is very detailed but you'll learn a lot. I recommend listening to the lectures again before tests. He goes pretty quickly so it can be easy to miss something. Overall a quality teacher.
Very challenging prof. Taught half the semester then handed it over to prof. Brockhouse. He struggles with his analogies so it makes understanding the material a bit tougher. He is very helpful though offering multiple review sessions before tests. Be sure to read the book to clarify what you learned in class.
He is so mean!
eh. alright professor. not great, but not awful. the final was pretty challenging though.
Not very good.
Reedy is a good teacher. He gives good examples in lecture that help with questions on the test. Recommend listening to lectures over again and taking notes with that so you don't miss anything. It takes time but he mentions even quickly in the lecture is definitely on the test.
He is very helpful, and the nicest man ever. lectures can be boring, and his tests can be hard. however, overall I'd take him again
Didn't enjoy the class or professor. Next.
I never thought I would miss taking his class over 212. Seriously. He is pretty straightforward and does not go on tangents like many other professors. What he says and what you read are clearly what is on his test. I wish I did better but hey, not all of us are Bio kids
Reedy is one of, if not the best biology professors at Creighton. Makes developmental interesting and is very clear about expectations. Not an easy A, but you learn a ton!
I really liked Dr. Reedy. His lectures can be dry sometimes, but he explains the material well. His tests are challenging, but not impossible. The class required a lot of work, but I definately learned a lot.
Dr. Reedy is one of the best biology professors at Creighton. He is super helpful, very clear while lecturing, and really cares about his students. This is definitely not an easy class, but Dr. Reedy makes it very interesting and relevant. I definitely recommend taking him as a professor!
Dr. Reedy is a pretty good teacher. But the lectures can be extremely boring and not very helpful. The way he explains things most of the time just confuse the subject more. But overall, this class was doable.
3 100pt exams, 100pt online hw, 100 pt final. Doable and straightforward if the time is put in. Exams are easy and format is consistent. Dr. Reedy is a world-class prof., he connects the subjects together and makes it more interesting than raw, rote-memorization bio. Makes a funny every once in a while.
Three 100pt exams, 100pt online hw, 100 pt final. Doable and straightforward if the time is put in. Exams are easy and format is consistent. lots of info covered in this class. lots to remember. very helpful when asking questions. knows his stuff. test questions very straight forward. 4 tests and a mastering bio grade. mastering bio can be long and tedious though, don't save for last minute. good class to prepare you for upper level biology courses
Reedy is a great teacher. His lecture material is really clear and he gives students time to ask questions during lecture. It's a tougher course, but if you spend time on things, it's not that bad. Only downside: that 200$ textbook you bought? It's never used
Great teacher, tough class. You get out what you put into it.
Dr. Reedy is a good teacher but it is very important to study, study, study. Do the mastering biology assignments and try to get 100% because they help your grade in the long run. Bottom line: ask questions, study, and study some more.
I learned a lot from his class. This isn't a class where you can study the night before. However if you put in enough effort, you'll be just fine. I'd take his class again.
Reedy teaches some of the hardest classes at Creighton. With that noted, it is hard for some to fully appreciate what he does. Even though for many his classes are very rigorous, he likely teaches it the best anyone can. He wants to make sure you know the information and know it well. You can't just understand it. You have to know it.
His Bio 202 class is pretty hard. If you have taken IB/AP Biology, it will still be hard, trust me on this. If possible, DO NOT take his online summer class, unless you have to and are solely going to be taking that class for the summer. The book is not used and you really just have to rematch his lectures. Also, take notes on a computer.
Dr. Reedy is a great lecturer who gives exams that clearly reflect his presentation slideshows and outlines. Study those and do the mastering bio hw, and the class should be a breeze.
Biology is a hard class, and this class is a weed-out class. He will make it very difficult, so it is important to get into good study habits early. His test questions are very difficult, and are challenging applications to the material that you learned. Just be prepared to do a lot of preparation, and studying on your own.
Dr. Reedy is a world class professor at Creighton. You can tell he knows what he's talking about, and he explains the material really well. Bio 202 is difficult because it covers a lot of information, so make sure you study a lot, at least 3-5 hours per chapter. His tests are straight from the lecture, but require application not just understanding
The material covered in Bio202 really isn't that hard but Reedy insists on making it more convoluted than it needs to be. His tests are straight from lecture for the most part but he usually throws in questions that present new information to you which doesn't make any sense to me. Your grade is based completely on tests and mastering bio homework.
Gives good lectures. Five tests for 100 points each and 100 points of online homework. Attendance is mandatory but doesn't affect your grade until the eighth class you miss. He often references, "You should remember this from high school biology/chem/physics..."despite many not having taken those as upper level courses.
Definitely challenging but Reedy is an incredible prof who cares about students and explains material really well. Book for lecture is not required but was helpful at times. 2 papers: 1-3 pg reflection and 5-6 pg paper. Grades them fairly generously. 3 exams plus a final. Exams are multiple choice and have about 5-6 essay questions. Lab was easy
Dr. Reedy is a good teacher, especially when it comes to Cellular Biology. It is definitely a tough course, but if you pay attention in lecture, take good notes, and start studying a few days before the exam, you should be fine. Dr. Reedy is also a good professor to talk to. I have sent him many questions over email and he is very quick to respond.
Dr. Reedy is very well-versed in Biology and you can tell by his lectures. Biology is a very difficult subject, and Reedy did not necessarily make it less difficult. His lecture videos don't go over everything he wants you to know on the test and he designs the tests so you get a 70. Without AP Bio, this class is VERY difficult. NOT an easy A or B!
This guy is the hardest testing SOB ive ever had the displeasure of taking. I start studying a few days out from the test for 2 hours a day until my brain is sore. I take the practice exams and do fine, walk in to the test only to discover its nothing like the practice tests. No clue how to be successful
For Bio 202 you can either take recitation or lecture, I took lecture and felt like the students who took recitation were more prepared for the tests then I was. Lectures were boring and recorded so you can miss class if needed. Reedy isn't the most helpful as this is a weed out course and about 1/2 of the freshman taking it withdrew.
He is the only professor for BIO 202. I took the lecture class even though recitation was an option. Lecture students had a HUGE disadvantage. We had a 4% lower grade in the class and recitation students received packets and other materials to understand the material. Also, in live lecture, he goes off track so you end up studying more material
This is clearly a weed out class. I paid attention in lecture, reviewed my notes, and made the recommended outlines and would do very well on practice exams only to get to the actual exam and find it much more difficult. He's very accessible outside of class and is a nice person.
There are 2 options for BIO 202, recitation or lecture. I took recitation and have loved it for the most part. The tests all come from videos and outlines, so rewatch the videos and read slides and outlines for studying. He likes to throw little bits of facts from random places, but you can always eliminate 2 answers.
Professor Reedy is a nice guy but he makes everything a lot more complicated than it needs to be. He does not really care and gives few if any extra credit or help on exams. His exams are poorly worded for no reason. His goal is "to weed out as many people from being pre-med" if that tells you anything.
I loved Bio 202 with Reedy! His lectures are organized and he explains complicated processes in an easy-to-understand fashion. On top of the 4 exams + final, this class involves a lot of Mastering Bio assignments and online quizzes. Therefore, it is essential to keep up. Re-watch and re-take notes on the lectures, and an A is totally achievable.
For Bio 202 I would highly recommend taking recitation. Reedy moves really fast in his lectures and I found myself needing to watch every single studio lecture anyway.
I think people think Mark Reedy is a horrible person but he's actually such an upgrade from first semester bio teachers. He really does care about his students doing well. It's a difficult class, and if you struggle with the lecture I would consider taking recitation
Dr. Reedy gets a bad rep that he's out for his students to fail but this is NOT true. He definitely cares about the students that care about his class. I think his lectures can get boring but he does a really good job of explaining his slides in full detail. Definitely an upgrade from bio 201.
He is a very good lecturer. If you want to do well, pay attention in lectures and take notes or read the book, but you don't have to do both. Tests make up 80% of the grade and are challenging, but if you prepare well you will be fine. Also, go to optional review sessions because they are a huge help. Overall, a great professor who grades fairly.
He's a great teacher! I really enjoyed his class. His lectures are good and cover exactly what you will need for the exams. His exams are not super detail oriented.
Reedy is a good lecturer and his tests are very straight forward. As long as you study for a couple hours before the exams, you should have no problem getting an A.
Reedy is a great knowledgeable professor, who happens to teach the hardest class for pre-med students. Material is difficult, take no days off to do well in his course and draw everything. The tests are 80% of you grade, so do not mess around for them. No study guides but offers old exams to study. DO NOT CHEAT and meet with him. no reedy hate here
Mark made this course extremely hard when it didn't need to be. He went into very great detail on the slides, then would pick the smallest details to test us on. Most of the test questions are about things that we never discussed in class but slightly relate to the material and we have to make connections. Many people end up having to retake it.
Dr. Reedy deserves every award in the book. This is my second class taken with him since I also took 202 a few years back. This class is extremely difficult but Dr. Reedy makes the class incredibly enjoyable. If you put in the work outside of class you will do fine. Hes one of the few teachers that actually care about the students success.
This semester of BIO 202, Reedy made us do everything on our own outside of class. The "lectures" consisted of NO lecturing or help, but doing a worksheet with a partner over 2-3hr videos that you were to watch outside of class. There is always a pre quiz due before class, and a post quiz before leaving class everyday. Worst BIO class EVER!!
Reedy makes you watch all the lectures outside of class and they are around 2 hours each chapter. He uses class time to do worksheet with an assigned partner. His tests are very difficult and he doesn't give you any review materials or study guides. He also does pre-activity quizzes and post-activity quizzes after each class. I do not recommend.
Watch lectures outside of class and do in-class worksheets with a partner. Online homework due at the end of each week. Posts old exams and has a Q&A in class before the exam. Work hard and study more than a week before exams. Find an effective way to study and not just memorize. You have to be able to apply concepts learned for the exam.
Really an unfortunate class. Heard better things going in and saw good things relatively on this website. Pretty much hours and hours required watching lectures outside of class, and in class we spent it being confused on a worksheet over the lectures. But since this is your only option for 202 you'll have to do it.
He's a really good teacher, he just teaches a hard class. He cares for each of his students and wants them all to do better, so you have to utilize office hours and ask questions in class during discussions. People aren't used to learning the material prior to each class, which is why he's probably getting so much hate.
Reedy is a knowledgeable person, but his class structure just made ZERO sense. Our exams were 80% of our grade and we still had to work hard for the other 20% despite the hard exams. We had to watch the lectures outside of class and be confused on a worksheet during class time. This is likely your only option so I'm sorry you are stuck with Reedy.
Dr. Reedy's class during covid was intensively difficult. Lectures were all online and took a decent amount of time to complete. The good news is Dr. Reedy is extremely accessible outside of class and will help you out with anything you are struggling with. Take Dr. Reedy because you learn a lot about cellular and molecular biology..
People complain about Dr. R because BIO202 is hard, but he's a great prof. He's friendly, accessible outside class, responds to emails quickly, & seeks out student feedback. BIO202 was a flipped classroom -- LOTS of work, but online lectures were concise and in-class worksheets helpful. Exam questions are straight from lectures and worksheets.
Lectures are all online outside of class. Expect to spend 1-2 hrs preparing for class where you will do a worksheet. Additional time needed for studying.
I am a biology major and have absolutely loved biology, but Reedy destroyed that love. He does a flipped learning style, so you have to do all of the learning outside of class. Prior to class you watch an hour long lecture, and take a quiz. Lecture consists of wasting your time doing a worksheet and taking an after lecture quiz. Don't take him.
Dr. Reedy is absolutely one of my favorite professors. Flipped class is nice because you get to pause and go back to see what you missed in the videos. hes super smart and will help you understand anything youre struggling with.
dr. reedy is a smart guy he knows his stuff. but its a flipped classroom so you do the learning on your own time. which has its perks. however in class we do worksheets over the lecture videos which are so hard. the exams are worth a lot of points so if you do bad on one your kinda screwed. if you keep up with studying you'll be fine
He is a great guy, and will help out with whatever you need. I just don't like the flipped classroom setup of the class.
Flipped class, lectures outside of class and activities in class. I really liked the flipped class because I was able to learn all the info and not miss anything said in lecture as it was recorded. Exams are not hard, just a lot of info to memorize and understand. Lots of opportunities to ask for help in and out of class. Study and you will do well
This was a flipped class meaning you watch all the lectures and take notes on your own. During class time, you work on a worksheet that integrates the assigned lecture material. This was challenging to get used to at first, but once I got the hang of it, I found that I gained a much deeper understanding of the material.
While I think using the lecture videos from 2020 is somewhat lazy, Dr. Reedy is still a good teacher. He truly knows the material and can teach it really well. As long as you're willing to put into effort you'll do fine. Overall he's a good teacher, I personally feel he just doesn't enjoy teaching as much.
I didn't like that lecture was solely based on old videos, but overall a flipped classroom was helpful in learning the material. Dr. Reedy gets a lot of hate because the dropout rate is high, but as long as you study, watch the videos, and get help when you need it you will do just fine.
This class is hard and will take some getting used to. If you are willing to put the time in, and SIGNIFICANTLY change your study habits, you will learn a lot and be well-prepared to take upper-level classes. Stay caught up, find good study habits, and form a study group. It is hard, but this is not the impossible class that it is made out to be.
Dr. Reedy teaches a hard class. Bio 202 is a lot of work outside of class, but if you can stay on top of the lectures and put the time in to actually learn the material you'll will be fine for the exams. Your grade will be very test heavy so every exam score matters, but it is not impossible. Don't get behind and be open to new study habits.
Do the videos, go to class every day, ask questions, and get any help you need in office hours and you'll get an A. Don't be lazy. Study a fair amount. This class is only hard if you let it be hard.
Very hard class, but he doesn't do anything to make it much easier. You learn all the info on videos he puts out outside of class and then just do a worksheet during class time with minimal actual teaching. Also sometimes speaks down to you when you talk to him so he's not the best to ask questions with
Bio 202 has been my most difficult class. Dr. Reedy did not help me much when it comes to the grade I ended with. His videos are some what helpful but for someone who takes a while to learn difficult content, I had to put in a lot of time. Personally, attending class did not help me much so I stopped going and saw my grades go up.
All the material you needed to know is straight off of the slides and lectures. Thats it. Just study that and you'll be fine. Is considered a "weed-out" class, but honestly does not really compare to upper level science classes at all.
This class is flipped, so you watch lectures/ take notes outside of class. In class there's worksheets and a quiz. Most of the grade is from exams so STUDY. I did the in-class worksheets repeatedly until I didn't miss anything. The only reason I didn't get an A is because I was sick the whole week leading up to the first exam and got a 70 on it.
Entirely self taught. All material is provided through videos and worksheets on the material are done in class. Class time is not used effectively but worksheets are helpful. Lots of tutors as well as office hrs. Don't get behind in notes and study for a week in advance. Tests are all about word choice. He puts a lot of buzz words to trick you.
Dr. Reedy's lecture videos were not the best so ask the TAs for help or go to office hours. As long as you study well for the tests and get started early it won't be too bad.
I think that Dr. Reedy is knowledgeable and knows his stuff well, but the class format just did not work for me at all. I would've preferred traditional lecture rather than the flipped class that he does. The pre-class quizzes were way too hard for having just learned the material and I usually left class feeling less intelligent than I went in.
Reedy is genuinely one of the best professors at Creighton. This class is considered a "weed-out" course because many aren't willing to put in effort outside of class to watch the lectures. The flipped classroom style was much better for me, but it's not everyone's thing. It's a difficult class overall, but if you do not try, you will likely fail.
Reedy is the best person to teach 202. He's cut throat, but is also very available outside of class. Ask questions before and after class if you aren't sure about something (you can also email). Get ready to put in the time for this class, wants you to be prepared for upper-level BIO classes (trust me, you will be (B or higher)). Have fun in 202!
Nice. The flipped classroom environment is pretty good, but the videos were usually only a little helpful. Do well on the pre- and post-activity quizzes. Dr. Reedy and other teachers/TAs were usually helpful and available a lot during the week. Exams are a big chunk but the class is pretty straightforward; not as much studying as you think.
I really liked the flipped classroom, and it worked well for me. All the material you need to know is straight off the video lectures and slides. He and his army of TA's are accessible outside of class if you need help. Don't get scared when people like to say it's a "weed-out" class. Just put in the time to study and you'll be fine.
The flipped classroom model takes some adjustment, but the videos and resources cover the material well. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep. Attend office hours - the TAs are super helpful.
He is a caring professor and works hard to make sure you understand the material. The class will be more work than you are used to, but as long as you watch all the out of class lectures and stay on pace you should be fine. The tests aren't that bad as long as you study a decent amount.
This is a hard class. It is a flipped classroom, so you will be spending a lot of time watching lecture videos. Anything in the lecture is fair game, so make sure you take very detailed notes. I took this class while taking 18 credits, which I don't recommend. This is a semester you should take a light load.
