Awesome guy, great teacher, highly recommended
No Comments
Tests are more like quizzes. Every two weeks one is taken. Two are dropped. Provides study guide, practice problems, and answers for all tests. Much of the info is interesting.
Very easy to follow. His lectures follow his notes pretty closly which he posts on blackboard. It's almost impossible not to get an A in his class just show up and read your book and notes.
Very easy! The only way to not make an A is to never go to class.
lectures are very boring but tests are easy..he gives a good study guide for each one. dont need to read the book, just study the notes.
Take this man's class if you have to take Chem. Please listen to me on this: I almost didn't pass chem in high school and I took this class b/c I was told it was easy. It was. The tests are multiple choice, and the final is VERBATIM (even the letter answers)from the tests. Not very personable, tho.
Great teacher, he makes everything easy to understand. A bit of a facination with the chemical properties of drugs, but a nice guy. Definately take him if you can.
Take CHM 160 honors with him. It's a fairly easy A. Tests are usually not too difficult, and he goes over all the material very cleary and in depth. He is willing to answer any questions you have.
Great for an honors class. Easy class to get one of your gen eds out of the way. Really nice guy too.
Instead of having 3 big tests he gives you 7 small ones and you can drop the lowest. SO if you like that thn tak him but you have a test every other week and it gets old. Lectures are boring
He is a good teacher just rants about alot of topics that are not on the test or have no importance to you. Lecture can get a little boring. 2 points for attendence each through "1 min. papers", 7 tests but lowest one dropped
Good guy, and fun class, though I slept through quite a few of them. If you've taken any college prep chemistry already, you'll find this class pretty easy. I've heard he's also a great professor to work with for research.
Dr. Richter is one of the best teachers i have had. He was very helpful with anything you needed and was very laid back. A very easy person to get along with.
Dr. Richter is a great teacher - i highly recommend him. His assignments are very easy & he is very laid back about everything. Near the end of the semester he cancels a lot of classes so you can work on your final paper (which is easy) so you pretty much don't have to have this class for practically half the semester.
He is one of the finest teachers I have had. He goes out of his way to take chemistry beyond the textbook and bring it to the real world. His occasional tangents add humor to his lectures, always keeping you interested through the most interesting and most boring topics alike. He is very approchable and always is up for answering questions. Take!
Richter is awesome! He made UHC really fun and enjoyable. His final paper is short and he cancels a lot of classes. His assignments are easy and short. Take this guy!!
This class is what you would expect a college level Chemistry class to be. Richter really goes out of his way to make it simple, though. So I have to give him props. He doesn't give homework & he doesn't make you memorize formulas. He does assign a set of homework problems, but they are just to help you on the test. I'd take him--he's a nice guy!
Middle school chemistry. No homework, study guides for tests, and very repetitive. Easy A...Great guy though, and I'm forever changed in how I view human behavior relating to the environment.
Great teacher! He always makes time to help you. Some days can be boring, but he really does know how to explain concepts and theories. If you attend class, study notes, and do the practice problems, you will be in great shape!
This class is very easy to understand. Didn't like chem but loved this class. He explains things well and tries to make it interesting. provides powerpoints and study guides and does review sessions for exams. no homework, but coming to class gets you 2 pts each day. he does give pop quizzes. Definately take this class!
Dr. Richter was a really good teacher. He gives 2 points a day for writing down what you learned. There are 4 pop quizzes, which are over what he just lectured about, and the tests are right off the homework questions. The homework is not mandatory. The Final was off the previous tests. He explains everything really well and is always available.
I took the 999 section...Extremely helpful teacher! I usually struggle with science subjects, but Dr. Richter's lectures are very easy to follow and effective. He's always appreciates questions and will help you in any way that you can. One minute papers at the end of every class are an easy way to raise your grade! Take him!
I really like Mr. Richter. Sometimes he puts me to sleep and other times he will be lighting things on fire. He is a total science nerd and is very willing to help. I chose this class for my gen. ed. requirement and I'm really glad. I highly recommend Mr. Richter for Chemistry for the citizen because it is very obvious that he loves his job!
AWESOME!! if you are in honors college I would HIGHLY recommend him for UHC!!
Richter has a way of explaining science to anyone and everyone thats willing to listen. Go to class and you can't help but pass his class. Very helpful powerpoints that keep you awake (most of the time). Either way, this guy knows his stuff and is one of the best I've had since attending MSU.
Definitely take Dr. Richter for UHC110! Class is so easy & fun that everyone will get an A. He doesn't want to create any more work for himself, so he doesn't make us do much work. He's a super nice guy & will always be there for help, but you're not gonna need to ask for much help :) Great teacher!
If you need to take an honors science lab and you don't take this, you are an IDIOT. Extremely easy and fairly interesting. It's actually about stuff you can understand and might even be useful to know. Labs never take more than an hour. Everyone in the class got an A. Iyou don't take him, you should not be in honors college.
On another level. If you don't love this guy, there's something wrong with you.
I took Honors CHM 160 and enjoyed the class very much. Richter is an excellent professor, has great demos to keep class interesting, gives points for attendance, and has straightforward tests. As long as you pay attention in class and understand the general concepts of the material, it is very easy to get an A in this class.
375 was my favorite class of Fall 09. I am pursuing a degree in Inorganic Chemistry and his class was a great springboard. Clear explanations, fair testing, and you can drop the final if you do well enough (don't know if that's universal). He's well thought of in the department for a reason. Take him if you can for anything!
My favorite professor so far! Attendance isn't mandatory but pretty much. You have a clicker and there's questions throughout the ppt, you get 1 point just for answering, 2 for answering correctly. He's super clear, very very helpful and gives out extra credit. Tests are somewhat hard, but there's extra credit. Take him if at all possible!
Great teacher!! Helps whenever you need it. Doesn't have a set test schedule so that he makes sure that he has covered ever thing clearly. Don't slack. Do the suggested problems. Only grades that you have are the four test and clicker questions and some pop quizzed on days before breaks to make sure you are there. Take him, get to know him!!
Easy A. Take him if you can, tests are straight from the powerpoints. If you are not a science major, take this class instead of CHM 160...it's way easier and you learn material that is relevent to a non-science major. You have to buy the lab book, but I didn't buy the other book and I was fine. I hate chemisty and didn't mind this class.
This guy is great! He is nice and his honors freshmen seminar is a breeze. We do have a research paper at the end of the semester, but otherwise it's an easy A.
Nice guy, very chill and laid-back. He cancels a lot of classes, and all the assignments are short. If you do them, it's an easy A. I would highly recommend his UHC class, especially if you're a science major; the actual lecture content is actually pretty interesting.
easy class in large lectures. gives 30 points possible extra credit on each exam. (out of 200 so a possible 230/200)
He acts like he's going to make his tests really hard but they never are. He's a nice guy and good teacher. Towards the beginning of the lecture he would lecture with his eyes closed a lot but stopped during the end. Maybe he was just tired, but he still knew what he was talking about.
I took Dr. Richter for both CHM 160 and 170. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. You have to abide by his syllabus. No one can attempt to cheat the system in that class which is what I like. He gives a couple of bonus questions on each test and prepares you very well for the final. Great professor.
Very fun and great teaching style in lecture. Tries to make it as least boring as possible. Does lots of demos in class and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities! Attendance is not mandatory but its the key to success in this class with all of his pop quizzes! Unfortunately will start new chapters the day before a test.
I absolutely LOVED going to this class. His lectures are so incredibly helpful and I understood everything. I really wanted to take him for CHM 170, but unfortunately he isn't teaching it next semester. He is extremely helpful and he makes chemistry easy. If you're given the opportunity TAKE HIM! You won't regret it.
Awesome teacher. makes everything perfectly understood. if you understand the material no need to go to class except for pop quizes. powerpoint lectures online to study from. made chemistry so easy
Very good teacher. The only problem was that we had 1 test by midterm and 4 the second half of the semester. This could have been because a new textbook was in use and he was off schedule, but this made the latter part of the semester harder than it should have been.
Easy A. Boring. HS Chem was harder. I'm wondering if these other ratings are the same dude.
Great teacher. He makes chemistry as fun as it can be. He gives extra credit on every test. If you need help in 161 lab, he will be more than willing to help things make sense to you.
Great teacher! I was not super excited about chemistry but he made everything very understandable. lots of opportunities for points if you show up to class, tests were only 20 questions and 3 of those were bonus! take him!
Richter is awesome. He gives lots of points. There are lots of quizzes and tests and all of them have extra credit opportunities. If you want, you can skate through this class without actually knowing anything. If you need to go to CHM 170, I don't advise this class.
Easy teacher! I barely studied and did pretty well in the class. But I'm scared I won't be able to pass CHM 170 :/ also I don't think I ever opened the book
Easy class. Would've had an A instead of an A- if I would've gone to class everyday. Always has in class points and pop quizzes. Extremely easy and boring. Haven't used my book once. Probably not prepared for CHM 170.
Richter is a total science nerd, but it's hilarious. EASY class. VERY easy if you took chem in HS already. I haven't used my book at all. Do the PoO problems. Go to class. LOVES pop quizzes on a day he knows that everyone will leave early for a break. SO GO TO CLASS. The pop quiz is basically a freebee if you do.Idk about CHM170 tho..
Dr. Richter is definitely into Chemistry. He knows the subject, and knows how to relate to students. I highly recommend him as a professor. Yes, he won't know who you are outside of class, but he responds to emails and keeps up with blackboard. SHOW UP TO CLASS. There are days where one quiz question will be 20pts because class size is low.
Ridiculously easy class. We aren't even meeting the last 2 weeks before the final. Pray for me in CHM170.
Easy class!Just go to class every day and you can easily end up with an A. Don't buy the book!! I never opened it once
He is probably the best teacher I've ever had. He is extremely clear and interesting to listen to. Going to class is a must! He uses PowerPoint but doesn't write a lot on them, mostly just talks and writes on the board. Take him if possible! He's great!
Goes very slow and makes sure you understand the matterial. The test are very easy but he does have random pop-quizzzes. He is not big on memorizing things so that is a plus.
Easy to understand teacher, funny, makes sure you understand material. Only need book if you do optional homework which will help you. Easy class if you took a chem class in HS (even if not AP) Definitely take him if given the choice!!!!!
Hands down he is THEE BEST Chemistry professor on campus. I've taken another professor and had to drop. Doesn't make material harder than it needs to be, thoroughly explains information. I wish I could have him as an instructor for other classes. You must pay attention and come to class but if you put forth the effort you will get an A.
He is n awesome professor, and doesn't make the material harder than it needs to be. He thoroughly explains the information, and repeats himself to make sure you understand it. He loves what he does, very funny and sarcastic. You know a professor is good when you don't have to open the book. I wish he taught more courses.
Seriously an awesome professor. He tries to make class fun by occasionally cracking jokes, but his main concern is making sure you understand the material. He goes slow and makes sure you know what's going on. If you pay attention in class, you don't need the book (the book is more complicated anyways). Go to class and you'll do great.
I really enjoyed this class. You don't use the book much though it does help to read along. He uses PowerPoint and it is best to print them out and follow them because they have problems to do on your own in them. If you follow them and review the study guide before tests you will probably pass and have an actual understanding of the material.
Gives tons of extra credit. Easy class. Covers the information very well. Love his sarcastic personality. I recommend him!
Even though he was my GEP professor instead of my chemistry professor I thought he did a fantastic job. I heard a lot of other students complain about their GEP professors, but Dr. Richter was helpful, organized, and consistent throughout the whole semester. He made this class enjoyable.
Best Professor! Take Him You will not regret!
He is the BEST professor ! TAKE HIM!!
You have to try to fail this class... Super easy, I just sat on my phone everyday. You do have to attend every class though!!
If you are going to need more chem classes after this, take another professor. However, this class was very easy. You have to attend class, but you don't really need the textbook. I didn't open mine once. I think it was a good/easy gen ed class to take.
The class is really boring. It's an easy A though, and he's very willing to help. If you have to take chem 161, take it with him.
For my major, I only needed 160 (not 161 or 170/171, etc.) so his class worked. I've heard from others that if you want to go on in chemistry, you should take someone else. Dr. Richter gives extra credit and drops an exam, quizzes, etc. He's sarcastic, funny, and interesting. Take him if you are more interested in your GPA than how much you learn.
SUPER EASY A. Get out of class early all the time. Have to do 100 word count summaries over the common reader, a group presentation, and a paper. Offers extra credit.
Very easy A. For the lecture part of class, he offers extra credit on the last three quizzes, so they are very easy to get an A on. He sometimes screws up math problems, and it can be a little hard to understand what he wants you to do in labs, but if you ask, he will help you figure it out. You are let out early every lab.
Classic lecture style. Provides the Powerpoints ahead of time on blackboard though. Good teacher, but not very personable. I did not understand chemistry at all coming into college, but he treats this class as an introductory course and doesn't expect you to have prior knowledge.
Dr. Richter is hands-down one of my favorite professors at MSU! He makes the material very easy to understand and his lectures are pretty interesting. Prior to this class I hated Chemistry, but now I'm actually considering it as a major!
I am a straight A student and got a C in his class. Took this class because it was a Gen Ed but he made it hell. Lectures were EXTREMELY boring and long. He is very sarcastic and rude. DO NOT bring any electronics to class he WILL kick you out. Pay attention to to BB he puts everything on there. If he's your last option, good luck!
Richter made the chemistry lecture interesting and perhaps even entertaining. He was quite affable and able to answer my questions in an understandable way. He gives clicker questions in class, so be prepared to pay attention and take notes.
He lectures through power points and it can get a little boring but for the most part the material is very easy to understand. He is straightforward with what you need to know. Although he gives pop quizzes, they are short and easy, plus he drops a few of the lowest grade ones.
I wish he taught all of my courses. Seriously, take him if you can. Grades are earned but he makes it easy to do that. As long as you do his recommended problems from the book you will get a high B low A on every test. Lectures are clear and he is REALLY helpful. Always tells you what to expect on tests. Best professor I have had.
I didn't like him at the start of the semester, but I have grown to love him. He talks with his eyes closed a lot but you get use to it. A very funny, geeky guy. Lectures can be boring, but not always, even did an experiment in class. Makes you work for it, but he gives ample opportunities to succeed if you take them. Go to class and do problems.
One of the best teachers so far. He makes the class easy and manageable. We barely did any thing in the class and he always let us out early.
Richter's class went really well for me, but you have 5 tests with 20ish questions. Each question is worth 10 points, so if you are bad at taking tests. The tests can really sink your score, like they did mine. Overall, wish I would have spent more time working the end of chapter questions to prepare.
I took this class at 8 am, so lectures were long. Great professor, explains things multiple times in different ways. I never used the textbook, but if you struggle with Chemistry and want more practice problems, use it. I took Chemistry in high school so the class was a little easier for me. GO TO CLASS! There are participation points everyday.
I was so nervous about chemistry at the beginning because I didn't do well in high school but I seriously loved this class. Richter was super clear and would answer any question you have. He gives a ton of extra credit opportunities and we were ahead of the syllabus so we always had a review day before tests. Take him if you can.
Not a bad teacher, gives tests back after each time. BORING lectures but a lot of points possible. he drops your lowest test grade 2 lowest quizzes and 3 lowest clicker questions. NEVER used the textbook, didn't even buy it.
Good about explaining all of the material. He gives several examples and different ways of doing things so everyone can figure it out. Gives pop quizzes, but they aren't difficult if you show up to class and they end up helping your grade a lot.
Richter drops 1/5 tests, 3/8 quizzes, and your 3 lowest clicker questions. Makes it pretty hard not to get a good grade in the class. He also let my class make "cheat sheets" for the last few exams and final. A little worried I didn't learn as much as I could've with another teacher.
The first test was a joke because I've taken a Chem. class before. Got over 100% with my eyes closed. After that though, the tests were significantly more difficult which i found odd since the other Chem class i took actually had tougher material... Anyway, for easy participation points and sometimes extra credit points... do not miss lecture!!!
He is definitely the best teacher for gen chem. His lectures are very clear and he makes it very interesting. His tests are very easy if you study, got an A on every one. He also allows cheat sheets for the tests and final. You must show up to class because of clicker questions and 8 pop quizzes.
Richter is an easy A considering the difficulty of the material he teaches. His tests were difficult but with the extra credit built in to them and him dropping the low one getting an A was no problem. Come to class because he has pop quizzes and sometimes the quizzes are just free points.
I absolutely hate Chemistry and have always struggled with it. Richter makes it much more bearable and easy to understand. He has a sarcastic sense of humor but is soft-spoken, so try to sit toward the front. You don't need the book, but you do need to show up to class or you'll miss out on clicker questions and pop-quizzes.
Love this Professor for this class! He made everything very simple and made it clear to students that he was there if they had any questions. His study material helps a lot and he puts all of his slides on blackboard. His tests have extra questions in them so you can get over 100% if you study. Intimidating at first but is just very passionate.
He knows the material, but its awkward to ask questions in class. It is very easy to fall behind in the grade book, he gives you points for going to class and will take off the worst test.
Book is only needed if you do his extra questions for study material. Hes super straight forward. Does an amazing job going through the power points. Also, he does goes through questions on the board. He is amazing at teaching!
He is a nice guy, and his lectures are pretty in depth and informative. Beware of 20-pt pop clicker quizzes and 2+ point clicker questions every single class period. The tests are not hard but if you do not study you will not do well. There is a lot of extra credit- he drops your lowest test score and drops 3 lowest quiz scores.
Amazing professor that I would take again in a heartbeat. This professor outlines his lectures VERY clearly and you better make sure you go to class because there are daily clicker questions! (Usually these are VERY easy and straightforward).
In class questions for points everyday, but he usually gives the answer by disucssing it immediately prior to the question. Pay attention and you'll get a lot of points. No homework assigned, and multiple choice tests made this class really easy,
You don't have to go to class but you will miss out on participation points that can help balance not so great test scores. He does drop 3 of the lowest participation, 1 quiz, and 1 test. There are not any assignments so you don't have a lot of grade padding. Math heavy. Book not required but helpful because slides are near shorthand.
I personally really liked professor Richter. His lectures were to the point and he was very good about giving us the information that really mattered for the lab. The best part was is that HE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN MEMORIZING! The only thing you have to memorize was a few poly-atomic ions everything else is given! He's a great professor.
I took chem in High school, but thought his class was easy. He is nice and wants everyone to do good. He is clear with what you need to do to get a good grade. 5 tests, drops lowest test at end of semester. 8 pop quizzes, drops 3 lowest. In-class clicker questions, so you should probably show up, easy points. Comprehensive Final.
A lot of extra credit opportunities. He is very willing to help you further understand the material and gives awesome study guides that really trim the fat of the chapters. Tests are (dare I say) easy in comparison to most other science classes. Very thorough in his lectures. Oh, and hilariously sarcastic. Make sure you read the syllabus!
Dr. Richter drops 1 of the 5 test, 3 of the 8 POP quizzes and 3 "clicker" questions. I didn't crack the book open once. His lectures are all PowerPoint and quite thorough. There are 200 points in clicker questions and quizzes, tests had 23 questions worth 10 points a piece (multiple choice). Sarcastic sense of humor, taking him for 170.
Dr. Richter is amazing. He is very modest; he doesn't seem arrogant of his intelligence. He is very smart, and he emphasizes and teaches critical thinking skills very well. He is personable and enjoyable to talk to. The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars was because his class was a little too easy.
Make sure you show up to class because he gives pop quizzes sometimes, but if you paid attention (even a little bit) during class, you will pass the quiz! He provides at least 30 points of extra credit PER TEST. Tests are not hard; all I did was look over the notes once. He uses clickers for points, so attendance matters! Somewhat boring lectures.
If you have trouble with any concept at all he is more than willing to spend his office hours working with you on every part you have trouble with. He is very patient and breaks things down well. He gives pop quizzes though most of the time it's right before a test or on a low attendance day. He gives a ton of extra credit.
Best teacher i have had at MO State! Take Richter! Easy Test, Easy Class overall!
Richter is a great professor! I highly recommend him. I took him over the summer and he was very upfront with what he expected. He does not tolerate cheating of any kind so dont try. You dont have to buy the book to pass. He gives you plenty of practice problems to do and you should do them if you want to pass this class.
SUPER easy class, if you play attention and study you will get an A. He gives TONS of extra credit, and he is the easiest teacher at MO state for Chemistry. He is also very nice and has fairly interesting lectures.
Richter rocks! For 160, he gives 5 tests, one of which is dropped, 8 quizzes, three of which are dropped and has clicker questions that range from about 4-8 points almost every class, which again, three are dropped. There's ample opportunity for extra credit on tests, if you've had even the most basic chem before, you'll do just fine!!
Mr. Richter was the best teacher I have had so far. His expectations are clear and fair and he gives you more than enough opportunities to get a good grade. He explains things very easily and doesn't waste your time. Always show up to class. On low attendance days he gives pop quizzes that as long as you answer it is a free 20 points.
Richter lays everything out in his syllabus day one. If you skip class you'll lose a considerable amount of points as he uses clicker questions to track attendance. At least three pop quizzes per semester. He drops your lowest exam grade and three lowest quiz grades. He's extremely knowledgeable and willing to help. Go to office hours! Great prof.
He clearly lays out his policies, but he makes exceptions for nobody for any reason. Not very understanding about personal problems and circumstances but this didn't affect me much. Tests are super easy with a ton of extra credit but that is all that accounts for your grade so if you don't have a strong background in chem you may need to study more
Easiest class I've taken in college so far. Offers from 15% to 25% on all exams, and lets you drop one. You can drop 3 of the 8 quizzes too. All quizzes and exams are multiple choice and super easy. In class clicker questions also pretty easy too. If you've taken any chem before, you'll be absolutely fine. The lab section (161) is harder, so study.
Richter is for sure an expert in his field and lets this be known. I took the blocked course and honestly felt the class was incredibly easy. I took a high school chemistry class and that was really helpful. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK OR ACCESS CODE YOU WILL NEVER USE THEM. So much extra credit is given it is honestly hard to not pass with an A.
He explains everything in a very easy way to understand. The tests and quizzes are not hard and he offers extra credit on every test. This is the easiest chem class I have ever taken. It was actually kind of interesting as well. He is very passionate about the subject and shows it.
This class was honestly so easy. If you took chem previously you'll pass. There is so much extra credit offered it's almost hard to fail it. His lectures are incredibly boring but necessary because attendance points are given. If you can take the 8am blocked course DO IT! It is so nice to get it out of the way. Highly recommend.
Really good prof. I took the 8 week class so it was a lot of information to learn in a short amount of time. We had at least one test every week or every other week which got a little overwhelming, but overall not a terrible class. He gives extra credit on every test and the final, which is really helpful. Would definitely recommend this teacher.
Easiest A I've ever received!
I wouldn't say that CHM 160 with Richter is the easiest class A ever... You will definitely have to work for your grade, especially if you've haven't had chemistry before. That being said, he has extremely generous grading policies with how he drops multiple quizzes and your lowest test. If you put in the work, you'll be totally fine. Great prof!
science is horrible, but mark made chemistry amazing. he has pop quizzes, but he will give you the answer for them!! lectures are long, but class always finishes early and also participation points are so easy to earn. every exam I got above a B+, that says a lot coming from me. highly recommended!!
I took his first block class that was 4 days a week at 8 a.m. for 2 hours. One test is dropped, along with three quizzes. Two pop quizzes, clicker points are for attendance & based on right answer-attendance is crucial. Lecture heavy, lots of math included. Gives extra credit on each tests. He responds to emails, does not take any excuses 4 missing
His lectures are very detailed and he goes step-by-step for the math problems. Do the PoO problems or you will struggle. He gives pop quizzes that are worth 20 FREE points b/c he gives the answer, so don't skip class. Drops lowest test, and lowest 3 quizzes. Put in the work & you'll get the grade you deserve!
Richter is not your best friend! He is an amazing professor but he is there for only that. He lectures all class every class. Be prepared to stay after quizzes for lecture and stay after tests until everyone is done. His lectures are posted online with speakers notes in case you miss. You do get a dropped exams and quizzes but don't expect makeups!
Hes cool
Richter is awesome. He clearly explains everything thoroughly and always finishes lectures. For exams, he posts things to study and things to not study, so it is really straightforward what is on the exam.
Really good guy, and it can be funny just how much he loves chemistry. You have to go to lecture but you get points everyday. He also does pop quizzes but he will give you the answer, he does these on low attendance days so seriously ALWAYS GO. Just study notes from class and you will be fine.
Richter is a great teacher. He finds humor while he teaches. but some difficult topics he will breeze over in 1-2 slides and you will end up having to teach yourself outside of class. the study guides are amazing which is something I really value. be prepared to show up, he has pop quiz's on low attendance days but he usually just gives the answer.
Mark seems like a very nice guy but he is the classic college professor you are warned about, he does not care about you or what grade you get. If you have an 89.9 you're still getting a B+. He also has pop quizzes and you have to attend lectures to get all your points. I was told by many he was great but I was not a fan.
Mr R. made chemistry so easy for me to learn! I took the 8 week class and we met MWTHF, and it was kind of face paced, but he made it tolerable. No extra credit, so you need to do well on exams/quizzes. Also has pop quizzes! Would definitely take a class with him again
I took the first block class that met at 8-10 MWTF and it was so worth it. I had never taken chemistry before but he made it very simple to follow along and is easy to talk to. He runs a very organized class and makes it very clear what is on the tests. If you do the work he tells you to then you are completely prepared for the tests.
I liked Prof Richter! I took his advanced course & it is a lot but if you're willing to put in work you'll be fine. You must attend lectures as he gives in-class participation & pop quizzes. He will explain questions you have but make sure you ask them instead of letting it go. Make sure you study for quizzes & take notes and you'll do just fine!
Literally all you have to do is show up to pass. There are so many particaipation points you could do poorly on the tests and quizzes and still end with a B. Lots of quizzes, but he drops 3. Lots of tests, but he drops 1. Easiest class I have ever taken at MO State. Print the lectures before going to class.
Tests and quizzes are averagely difficult but if you study you'll be fine. He's super nice about grades and let's you drop 3 quizzes and 1 test at the end of the course. Also is pretty good at explaining things and gives LOTS of practice questions!
I have always been terrible at anything chemistry but Professor Richter helped me understand and pass his class. You take 8 quizzes, but he drops 3. You take 5 exams but he drops 1, and clicker points. He's excellent at explaining and answering questions. He understands how hard chemistry is so he does everything possible to help students succeed.
For my first chem class, the course material wasn't easy but he's really good at explaining. It's not easy to make lectures super interesting so class can definitely get dry, but attendance isn't mandatory. He has clicker questions every day though. He is a really nice guy & knows his stuff well. I would definitely recommend him for chem116.
Highly recommend Richter, he teaches in a dry humor kind of way but you learn alot still. Lots of attendance points that can make or break your grade. As long as you study its not hard to finish with an A!
Doesnt require homework but gives optional problems to help you. Clicker questions everyday in place of attendance. Drops lowest exam, 3 lowest quizzes, and 3 lowest clicker questions. Pop quizzes are given on low attendance days rarely, but they are just one question with the given answer. Straightforward but content is sorta difficult.
A good teacher, make sure you go to class though everything you need to know for the test and quizzes is covered in class so you don't need the book. Drops the your lowest test and three lowest quizzes from your grade. He post plenty of extra study material for the exams. If you took chem I and chem II in high school this class should be an easy A
Dr. Richter is a good teacher. He understands that textbooks are really expensive so he doesn't require you to buy them. The material can be hard but he explains it well and will elaborate if you ask. There are lots of clicker questions for points in class so you can't skip a lot. Overall he's a really good teacher and I would take him again.
Would not take him again.... i finished his class with an 89.9% and he refused to round up my grade even though I went to EVERY class and went to the tutoring center and even his office hours. He honestly does not care about his students at all.
Dr. Richter is my absolute favorite teacher. I went from hating chemistry and not understanding it in high school to loving it and actually knowing what was going on when I took his class. There are lots of clicker questions for extra points. He also gives two "pop quizzes", but they are 20 extra points where he gives you the answer lol. I love him
Richter is a professor that wants you to succeed! He is willing to meet with you as much as you need and give you extra work and go over it with you, and will continue to help you until you understand the material! He gives a little bit of extra credit and freebies, but be sure to pull your weight in the class, this is in no way a blow off class.
He's so sweet and a great prof. He tries to make the lectures engaging. Mostly graded off tests, but there are clicker questions so if you don't come to class you'll lose those easy points. Basically just show up and take notes and you'll do fine. Tests aren't bad at all. Textbook is optional, don't need to get it if you're good with chemistry.
Make sure you show up to class, there are clicker questions which basically count as "attendance." Other than that, this class is incredible! Dr. R knows what he's doing, and he tries to make it clear and enjoyable to all the students. He is very clear on his policies, though, so don't expect any extra credit opportunities.
I haven't taken chem since sophomore year of high school, but Dr. Richter made the concepts very clear and easy to understand. All your points come from clicker questions or exams and the exams aren't bad at all. Literally just go to the lecture and you will do well. He lectures the whole time during class but it's engaging and laid out well.
I loved his class. Lectures were engaging, he is so charismatic and intelligent, and I never felt lost during lecture. He genuinely cares about imparting knowledge and as long as you read the rubric before asking him a question (he gets mad if the answer is on the rubric) you should be good! If you want to understand chemistry, take this professor.
I dont know what Im doing here. I m not even from America. Help
Still the best Chemistry professor I've had. Simple, clear grading criteria and Richter makes the material easy to understand. I didn't feel like I had to study, I just showed up to lecture, and got an A. Super charismatic guy, will work with you, but won't give free extra credit. Show up the day before breaks for for free points!
I really like professor Richter and have enjoyed his class. Grades are based solely on test, but they are open note/book. He sometimes get sassy during lecture and it's funny. Totally recommend!
Great professor and super manageable class. The grade is solely based on 5 exams (1 is dropped), in-class questions (didn't do this semester), and a final. Exams were open notes and open book. He's a super funny and nice professor and he always got back to me quickly if I had a question.
Professor Richter is such a great teacher. He truly cares about his students and wants you to pass. He took over in the middle of the semester for my class and he saved my Chemistry grade. He understands that students in 107 are taking this class because they have to and not because they are going into a science major.
My favorite professor at MSU. Ever. He makes chemistry fun! Mark is such a charismatic guy and really cares for his students' success. He does clicker questions which can help your grade a bit, so I suggest always showing up to class with your clicker.
This is one of the easiest classes I've taken thus far. I had this class at 8am MWF, and being lazy, I stopped going to lecture and just watched the recorded lectures he had posted. Your grade is only from your exams and they're all open note and open book. Highly recommend especially if you're not a chem major!!
He was pretty good at teaching. It was a full semester class, but we finished at week 10. All exams were online no camera required and open note. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I went to the majority of the classes because I suck at chem. Overall tests were difficult even with notes. Nice how early we ended.
Dr.Richter is an easy prof by any standards. Answers any question a student may have, easy all online tests (lowest dropped), and gets straight to the point considering he finished in week 10. The textbook is not required he even states this numerous times and has interesting lectures.
This class was extremely easy as long as you put in the effort to understand the material. We ended the class four weeks early, and he had all the exams available to complete whenever we wanted. He is super easy to reach on email. Only graded on 6 exams (drops the lowest) and a final worth 300 points, so make sure to do good on those.
Dr. Richter was very straight to the point about his class. Grades are based on test scores and the grading scale is pretty straightforward. He had great lectures full of pretty interesting information, and he made the tests very hard to fail. No textbook needed and no other assignments.
His lectures were very interesting, and he didn't focus a lot on math, but he was very helpful. The only grades are 5 tests and the final. We also ended a month early, he makes it almost impossible to fail his class, the tests are all online and he will drop your lowest test grade, he doesn't care about attendance but he is fun to listen to, so go
Easiest A I've ever gotten. Class was in person, but he sent out an announcement at the beginning of semester saying everything could be done online and I never went to a single lecture. All of the points are from tests and tests are open note. Take this for gen-ed, you won't regret it!
Richter saves classes for only lecture and practice work, attendance is optional as his lectures are recorded and accessible at any time. The only grades for the class are the exams which are online in normal browser and are available to complete within an entire week.
You don't have to go to class and you will be fine. He uploads tests every 3 weeks or so and you can take them with peers or notes doesn't matter. Such an easy class, he's super nice as well.
Syllabus states attendance is *not* mandatory, all lectures are prerecorded from covid & uploaded to blackboard. I stopped attending class & get good grades on the exams as they are open book, open internet, able to work with peers on, open for an entire week, & only 20 questions. ONLY note is he does not announce v well as to when the tests are.
Love this teacher, has all the material online
The best professor ever! I took this class in person, but attendance was not required. He just assigns up to 7 exams and you can take them all in one day and be done with the whole class and he literally tells you to use google. All of the answers are either in the notes or on quizlet. Super easy, would for sure take again.
Very flexible professor. This was an in person class at MSU, but he was very accommodating on whether students would rather do everything online or show up to in person lectures. This was AMAZING because my class was at 8am, three days a week and I'm not a morning person and it also allowed me to complete at my own pace.
Super easy class, only graded by tests that are online where you can use anything you want to find the answer so attendance is nowhere near necessary.
Honestly this was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken, everything is on quizlet and I had the class 4 days a week but attendance was optional and I only ever showed up to one class! Take this class if you need gen Ed credit.
Very good professor! I took the in-seat class, but from the very first day, he made it known that you didn't have to attend lectures because he posted the lectures online AND all of his tests were online anyway. He would constantly send announcements on how far in class they got during a lecture and was overall very good at communicating.
He is amazing and his lectures are optional and he makes it known. He will upload the slide shows and videos on Brightspace and all tests are online.
10/10 would take again. Definitely the easiest class I've ever taken, and I'm not even good at chemistry! You get the option of in-person or online, and all the tests are open note with 2 tries. He genuinely cares about student success, and he is constantly sending out helpful announcements. Take this class.
love him. he's so fun
Dr. Richter gives the option of online or in person work. The tests are open note and you get 2 attempts on them. The only grades for the class are the exams you take. Super easy class but pay attention to class content if you have to take a lab. Lab content directly aligns with lecture content. Overall, I would take this class again.
LOVE PROF RICHTER!!! the class points consisted of only exams, but they were online and open resource/internet. attendance is optional, but going to class is worth it because the material directly correlates to lab (and he always tries to make the class engaging!). funny and good guy, would rate 6/5 if i could.
If you actually need to know chemistry, do not take this class. The class has optional attendance, multiple tries on quizzes, and no class for the last couple of weeks. It was an enjoyable experience but remember that you will have to work extra hard to succeed in lab if you take this professor.
Easily the easiest class I've taken, not even a month into school and I'm already half way done. Only things you have to do are watch the videos, take notes, do the practice questions, and take the exams. Only 6 exams, 20 questions, 200 points each. After that you're done with the class. And he actually teaches stuff you will see everyday.
He's chill all his tests are open internet
This class was really great. You aren't required to attend the lectures and are only graded on 6 tests, all of which are pretty simple if you look at the lecture slides. This is a really good chem class if you want to learn about environmental things happening right now and the professor is pretty funny and informative. 100% take this class!
Lectures were optional. Once you were done with the online exams, you were done with the class. No final. Exams were open-note and open internet. If you just need an easy general education class, I recommend, but if you need this for an actual degree, the class doesn't push you to actually learn.
