He taught this course in the summer. It was really boring. He does try to make the class fun and he is very helpful. His tests weren't too bad. The homework was long and going through two sections a day meant that you had to understand the material well.
this teacher rocks. sooooo easy for a math teacher. two words SAMPLE TESTS.
He is REALLY boring...lots and lots of homework. Don't take a morning class, he missed lots of days. Easy tests. Overall I did NOT like his class AT ALL.
The subject itself was boring, so the class was, but he tried hard to make it interesting and he was mostly clear during the summer course. The homework is long and if you have a job you won't complete it, but he's very easy with grading and. Medium tests with some tricky questions. It's easy to pass if you try, but hard to get an A.
He is an easy teacher. You can tell that he knows his material but cannot put it into words. I suggest that you only take this class if you can learn on your own. Otherwise find another teacher or find a tutor!
fairly boring, doesn't care if you leave early though. if you can learn from the book, then go for this guy. If you can't or need help, look else where.
He is really sweet, I like him a lot. He is a good ass teacher but he should put his foot down a little more.
This guy cannot teach for crap. It's a good thing I SHOULD be in 120, so I understand everything with a breeze, but every other classmate of mine seems to have trouble understanding. You MUST call him or email him if you are missing a class but he didnt let me take a makeup TEST. He also Withdraws you with out you knowing... (this happened to me.
I thought he was easy. The only thing I didn't like about him is the way he explains things. Sometimes he goes too fast and doesn't go over how to do a problem needed for the hwk. But he is always willing to help his students and takes the time to do so. Do practice problems for tests. Tests are easy. Highly recommended.
A relaxed professor who doesn't make things harder than they have to be. A little quirky but it can be amusing. An all around good professor.
Dr. Rinker is a good guy, hes quirky and has some good little jokes he throws around.... but he has some issues with teaching the class. Hes very quiet. He also seems to speed through concepts, but does pick up on confused student looks so he'll stop and go back.. just ask questions of him and you'll do alright.
rinker is hilarious. he IS shy & quirky, u'll find urself laugh at his weird jokes. he notices the confused looks his students have after he teaches a section, and goes back if you need help and a reexplanation of it. let u use a notecard & he'll negotiate the dimensions you can use if u think it's too small.
rinker, i'd say he's a good teacher, IF YOU ASK. without asking questions i got a little lost, but honest to say you really dont have to go to class, as long as you know what you're doing
the class seemed long but if you really want to get a good grade go to class. he was very cool chill and silly. there was only 4 exams plus midterm no quizes but you cant makeup exams and a project and final. he even gave alot of extra credit so take advantage of it and do it!!
i took his class fall semester. he is a very helpful teacher. never be to scared to ask him a question on a problem when you need it. his class is very easy just make sure you stay on top of his homework that he gives you.. over all Rinker is a good silly shy teacher.
He's a good teacher, always is willing to help.
Rinker is AMAZING! I loved taking a class with him. He is crystal clear, grades fairly. Tests are appropriate. You learn SO much, but no stress. Always willing to help. If you know the subject, you will do well PERIOD. If you don't know the subject, you will do poorly. Just do the homework, do the study questions, show up, ask questions and easy A
One of the nicest teachers ever! Extremely helpful and really knows the material since he has a PhD in math. Offers extra credit questions on tests. Enthusiastic when it comes to his teaching and always eager to answer any questions. TAKE HIS CLASS! He's awesome.
Very reasonably teacher. His summer class was not as bad as most people would expect. He at least tries to listen to your question even if it's not an interesting one or he doesn't understand. Don't be rude to him, he doesn't deserve it.
Best Math prof Ive ever had. He really helps you understand the material. He actually takes the time to re explain anything if you need it, which you shouldnt bc he does it well the first time. If you just go to class, respect him, do the homework, not miss the exams, youll pass the class with flying colors. Hes a very lenient prof. Don't hesitate.
I don't normally leave comments/ratings but this guy is a good teacher. People who say otherwise probably sucked and didn't belong at school in the first place. Honestly, this guy teaches the material, works with you 1 on 1 if you need it, and helps you get through this horrible subject. I plan to take him again for another math class :)
Mr Rinker is very nice, maybe too nice! The class did not listen to him or respect him. He assigns TOO MUCH Homework(& he doesnt return it often) & does NOT give enough lecture! If your someone who likes step by step lecture he is NOT the teacher for you. I do NOT suggest taking his class unless math is already a strong subject for you!~
He is so easy!!!!! he is the nicest teacher i have ever had and is an easy A, if you try and ask questions.
Rinker is by far the best statistics teacher at DVC. His sample tests cover exactly everything that will be on the test. He is kind, helpful, and extremely nice. He catches on to looks of peoples faces when he is moving to fast or knows someone doesn't understand the material. GREAT TEACHER!!!
Pros: Very helpful, patient, and approachable; tries hard to explain things well and backs up when you look lost; grades generously; has an oddball sense of humor that sometimes comes out when you aren't expecting. Cons: takes a minimum 2 weeks to return tests; class sometimes gets canceled and test dates get postponed because of this.
I defiantly do not recommend him to anyone who does not like math. His explanations are not very helpful and are often unclear. He is patient when you need help, but it's pointless because he doesn't do well with explaining problems! You're defiantly going to need a tutor or extra outside help with him because you'll end up teaching yourself.
He tried his best to explain the material for us. Test are relative easy, he grades generously. Highly recommended! He is the best
I am a little divided about him. He obviously knows math and is really trying to be as helpful as possible, in and out of class. His explanations could be somewhat unclear as he tends to run with the material. I found his remarks to the class to be inappropriate at times, suggesting at least twice each class that "we look so sad". I give him a C+
Best math teacher ever!! His summer class wasnt as bad as i thought. Dr. Rinker is really kind, helpful and always catches on student faces when they look lost. Tests are easy and he is a GENEROUS grader!! Also gives lots of extra credits opportunities!! Take him !!
Amazing professor, very clear, does not rush through anything. He will explain until everyone willing to ask for help understands. Tests are straightforward sometimes gives study guides. Favorite proffesor at Dvc, overall great guy. Math is not something that comes too easily for me but class wasn't bad at all.
This class cannot get any easier! I'm absolutely horrible at math, yet I passed with an A+ in his summer class. His lectures are not super, but it's not too bad. His tests are extremely easy though, even easier than the homework. He also grades generously, most times only take off 1-3 pts. He also gives you hint during tests if you are stuck.
Very knowledgeable and thankful to anyone who really puts an effort in his class. He cancels class a lot for some reason, but never makes the students pay for it by adding extra homework. carefully explains the important parts and gives the best test reviews you could hope for. I wish every class was like this.
Dr. Rinker is friendly & approachable; he is knowledgeable about statistics and very willing to answer all of your questions. The downside is that he's slow at grading and he misses sometimes cancels class last minute. It was an easy course because he dumbed it down for students not very good at math. I wish it was a little more challenging.
I'm currently an instructor at DVC, but I took Mr. Rinker when I was at Laney college, my college days. I was pleased to see Mr. Rinker on campus and was reminded of how amazing he is. I hate math. I'm terrible at it. This was the only person that ever made me understand. I had taken statistics twice and failed, but with Mr. Runner I passed.
Over 90% of your grade is tests. If you aren't good on tests, don't take him. I and many other classmates found the material really confusing, he does not explain concepts well. I had to pay a tutor throughout the semester in order to pass. Homework, but he just checks that you did it. He cancels class randomly, which sets you back.
Prof Rinker is a terrible lecturer. His lectures had me confused the whole time. He also cancels class frequently. Extra credit is very little so if you need it to better your grade, don't take him. This class only works if you learn math easily.
Dr. Rinker's lectures are confusing to say the least. He has a tendency to cancel without notice. The extra credit is just going to the math lab. You need to be able to learn algebra easily and do well on tests.
I haven't taken math in over 5 years &I wasn't very good. Dr. Rinker made me fall in love with algebra! As long as you take all the notes, you will Ace the class. He also is very generous with giving partial credit on exams and gives you extra credit for going to the math lab. FREE pdf of text online! Pray to take him for Stats!
The workload is heavy, but if you do every homework assignment and work to thoroughly understand the concepts, you will get an A. The tests are just like the homework, but he leans towards the easier problems. He cancels class a lot, which takes off the HW load. He didn't take attendance in my class, so take a day off if you need, but study hard.
Dry sense of humor which I love. This teacher helped me understand math, which is a real struggle for me. The tests are manageable as he provides practice questions on a study guide. Very patient and approachable with kind eye that make him easy to talk to.
Dr. Rinker is super nice and kind pro. I just took his first exam, and I felt it was basic question that you can totally handle.
He does explain stuffs very well and clear, but the problem is he always cancel classes, which make the class so behind. Also, he grades very slow, it took 2 months to give me back my Exam#2. Midterm is super hard, and exams are just ok (doable). Just make sure you don't bomb your midterm and final, then you will be fine. I just don't like him.
simply if you have some level of iq you will get an A. There is no hw and only 4 exams. best grader, and easiet teacher. i only went to 5% of the classes and got A. easy tests.
Dr. Rinker 's lecture is not very clear but his exams are easy to handle. Perhaps most of people in the class who get B and A. Anyway, I get A but my math is not very good. In a word, easy A just take it.
He is a very nice guy!!! His exams are a lot easier than the homework. It was so worth it taking him over the summer. He actually cares if you know the material or not.
He is an amazing professor!!! I took him in summer. He is really nice, and tests are easy, he taught things clear and fun. Just take him!!!!
He was an awesome teacher. If you don't pass this class you literally did nothing.
If you do the homework you will pass. There are 4 exams and a midterm and a final. All test you can bring a half sheet of paper as a cheat sheet. Test are very easy.
An amazing professor that really cares about his students. I was not very good at statistics and definitely was not excited to take it in college, but professor Rinker made it easy to understand. His lectures can be a bit dry, but his way of teaching makes a difference. 5 exams throughout the semester and 1 project. This was an easy A!
He's super sweet. I really enjoyed the class. Easy to follow all of his lectures. He cancelled class a lot, but that wasn't a bad thing, because when he was there he was very helpful. A lot of extra credit options. Tests are pretty easy, and you get a cheat sheet. The homework isn't bad for being a math class.
He is sweet and the class is simple, but he really sucks at teaching
Do your homework, and his exams are so easy to handle.
3 exams + Final - no quizzes; Extra credit Q's on each exam; I stat project. He's an easy A as long as you read notes, get to know how to use your graphing calculator for answers. Really wants u to pass. Although, he's a little vague while teaching and can cancel quite a few classes. Take him to get an A and GPA boost, not to learn stats properly.
EASY 6-week Summer. 1 Test ea. Thurs starting 2nd week. HW is Every Other Odd. 6-9 problems per section. Get familiar with TI-84 Plus calculator when doing HW to make tests easier. Most Test-Qs are from in-class examples, not book. Some Test-Qs repeated on next test. Stop complaining he's 15 mins-1 Hr late every day. Be thankful it's less lecture.
Took Dr. Rinker for calc 2 in the summer. Not a very easy class but he is very generous with partial credit on tests (make sure to show work, even if it's not correct). 3 tests, 1 midterm, and a final. BEWARE of the midterm as it is the hardest test of the semester. Lots of hw (not online, doesn't really check), lots of extra credit opportunities.
Prof Rinker is very caring and wants to make sure his students understand the material well. He makes understanding statistics simple and easy. Highly recommend. He is funny too.
Very nice teacher tests are easy if you know the material. If you know alittle of the material o test and show some type of work showing you know a little you can probably get a C bcuz of all the partial credit her gives. Not alot of hw
He is a great professor so nice and caring I will definitely recommend his classe .
Doc Rinker is a nice guy. Gives clear instructions and honestly wishes the best for his students. Very open to questions, don't hesitate to ask as it will pay off in the end. If you do the homework, ask questions, and do the review questions, you'll be fine. Not hard to get an A if you just put in some effort. Really mellow and easy going class.
Professor Rinker is one of the easiest professors I have had in my college years so far. He is very caring and gives a great amount of partial credit. Easy A. Great professor for all those psych majors needing statistics.
Dr. Rinker is a really nice person. Even I was not interested in math, after his class, I realized the beauty of mathematics. Thanks a lot! Highly recommended him.
Prof. Wrinker is definitely one of the easier math teachers. Take him if you have a hard time in stats. He is straight forward and is perfect for anyone who wants to pass the class with a breeze.
Taking Calc 1 over the summer was actually enjoyable with professor Rinker. He is super mellow and likes to have class participation. The homework wasn't anything crazy. I would love to take him for Calc 3 if he's in the schedule. TAKE HIM, VERY NICE PROFESSOR.
He reminds me of the cartoon big bear in the blue house cause of his jolly precious personality LOL in a great way! He's sooooo laxed and patient, he's a nerd who enjoys what he does. I felt in good hands and HIGHLYYYYYY RECCOMEND !
BEST DVC MATH PROFESSOR IN THE ENTIRE DEPARTMENT EVEERRRRR. Hes the sweetest nicest and most easy grader ever. His partial credit will make u pass every exam!!!! The hw is simple and a lot of exam problems come from there. Dont be mean to him because he doesnt deserve it and hes just such a kind man. He cares so much about his class. Love him
I love Dr. Rinker so much because not only is he the nicest math prof in the department, hes the only one that REALLY CARES!!!!!! Dont even worry about the tests because theyre easy and the hw is basically the test and trust me when i say t a k e h i m. Also dont be mean to him because he doesnt deserve it and he really tries, hes a PhD man
Just trust me and take the man already
Great Professor and Easy Class! He will make sure everyone pass the exams.
Absolutely stellar Professor- I highly recommend his summer course. He allowed us to have small cheat sheets for exam which really helped take some of the pressure off trying to learn Calculus in a couple weeks. Pay attention to any in class examples and the homework problems!
As usual for math classes, there is quite a bit of homework. But Rinker makes his class so enjoyable with his humor and teaching. I honestly deserved a B, but hes very lenient with partial credit. One advice I would give is to take a picture of your hw before turning it in for study material, he takes a while to give things back.
One of the most lenient professors at DVC. Rinker does his best to explain the material as clear as possible, and is very nice. He gives lots of partial credit for exams, and even gives extra credit problems. Would highly recommend!
During the pandemic, Mr. Rinker tries his very best to be as helpful to his students online. Although online class may be difficult, Mr. Rinker always reassures his students that they are doing great and that means a lot! He is very lenient and understanding when it comes to tests and hmw. Thank you professor for being the best! Please take him! :)
literally one of the easiest math professors ever, barely ever went to class, didn't even need textbook (hw is all on slader). he is hella nice and super accessible. all exams are like 10-15 questions. take him!!!!!
The best math teacher I have ever had! Super nice and is so caring for all of his students. I've always been bad at math but having him as a teacher has made it easier for me and he's always there to help when you need it. As long as you take notes during the lectures everything should be pretty easy!
Dr. Rinker is by far one of the best professors I have had. He really cares for his students and actually treats us like humans rather than students. Communication is key! I took this online and it was not hard at all, just make sure to do great on tests and homework! I never write reviews but he definitely deserves it because he is amazing.
Dr. Rinker is a great professor! He is very kind, understanding, and genuinely cares about his students. He is an awesome professor, so if you have the chance to take his class, take it!
Professor Rinker is a walk in the park and a breath of fresh air. I have NEVER been good at math, and passed this class with an easy A. Take notes with his lectures and you WILL PASS. He is also such a sweetheart and cares so much about his students. He wants everyone to pass. Exams are like 10-15 questions and not hard at all. TAKE HIM!!! :-) <3
Professor Rinker is such a generous soul! He really cares about his class and will check on students constantly. He does a lot of practice to prepare us for exams and makes study guides. His class is super simple and you won't find yourself stressing about it.
Dr. Rinker was an amazing teacher. He taught me so much. He was kind and so caring. He is very patient also, I will 10/10 recommend. Take this teacher.
Mr.Rinker was an absolutely AMAZING professor. He is super funny and cares about his students. He is good at teaching and makes the whole process of learning super easy. I had him for statistics and he is a very fair grader and gives a lot of partial credit on exams. Just show up and take notes and you will pass his class! would 100% recommend him!
Dr. Rinker made stats much less terrifying than I expected it to be. I was so nervous going into statistics, but he took lectures slow, welcomed questions even mid-explanation, and took suggestions on what example problems to prioritize. He was always careful to read the class and spend extra time on concepts that gave the group trouble. Wonderful!
Rinker is the BEST professor I have taken. His lecture is very clear and very easy to get A. Take him class!
I took a summer STATS class with Dr Rinker and he was amazing!! I really really struggle with math and I was extremely nervous to take a math class as the professor makes or breaks it. He made it so easy to understand and is EXTREMELY understanding and helpful. He is such a sweetheart and I can not recommend him enough
Literally the sweetest guy ever. he really just wants you to do well and he takes his time to make sure you get something if you ask for the help. Tests are also all open note and he doesn't post much HW at all. Pretty easy class, good GPA booster.
Dr. Rinker is one of the most caring professor that I've ever taken. He makes sure everybody in the class understand the material and he even walks around in the class to answer your questions. He is very hilarious and respectful. If you're doing his pre-exam practice questions, you'll get A. I'll recommend everybody to take him. He's the best!
Best professor ever! I wanted to fail my class on purpose so I could retake it with him!
Professor Mark Rinker is one of the best professors. Despite the statistics subject being dry, Professor Mark Rinker, with his teaching method, made it very easy and digestible even to the slowest student. He explains every letter and number of the lectures. He has a practice exam, which makes you ready for the tests. I would recommend him 100%,
I recommend him to anyone who is looking to take statistics. He's super caring & gives extra credit on exams. He makes everything so easy to understand and you are sure to pass his class if you just pay attention :)
Completely incapable of teaching MATH-294. Lectures are horrible, teaching style is horrible, and personality are all horrible. Maybe he is good at teaching lower division math but he is incapable of teaching this class. I would not recommend attending his lectures as you will save much more time and sanity teaching yourself.
He's nice and very funny, but I wouldn't recommend him for stem majors. He would often cut class short or cancel class altogether. We ended up skipping so many chapters that the class felt incomplete. However, he is the most lenient grader I've ever seen, so if you're not a stem major and are just here for the credits then take him.
He gives lots of extra credit. He makes the lessons easier to understand, he's very caring, and goes around the class and asks if anyone needs help. He has practice exams and study guides, there's homework but not too much, and the homework is easy.
Professor Rinker makes stats super easy. With his clear lectures, practice exams, and caring nature, even math-phobes can succeed. unstuck study was a great study aid too. Highly recommend this GPA-boosting class!
Mr. Rinker was probably the nicest teacher I've ever had. I look back and miss his class, and kind of wish he taught all of my classes. He is extremely flexible with due dates extensions just talk to him. He doesn't make you feel alienated for asking questions, in fact, he encourages you to and goes around the room to make sure you understand.
