Instruction is highly intellectual and stimulating.
Excellent teacher. Knows his stuff. Tough tests, but learned immensely!
it seems that he is talking to himself. he does not speak clearly.just lecture is his own pace
he seems that he is talking to himself.
Really good teacher. He makes you think. Pretends to not care what your political views are, but seems to like it if you line up with him.
HE is scary, but good i guess!
The best teacher I have ever had, makes you think! Hilarious and makes class enjoyable. He is really cute too : ) Such a stimulating class, everyone should have him at some point or another. It does not seem like he's talking to himself as others said.
Very informative class-- he makes you work for it. Tests are in essay format, and he uses every minute of class to teach. Not lots of class discussion, but he'll always answeer Qs after class or by email. And a hottie!
A melodramatic mesogonist who bashes on his ex wives alluding to their psycho capacities during his lectures on Plato's communism, referring his ex wives to (insert wrench subject here)...-a great professor! delivered speeched eloquently! articulate!
if you need to be babied, dont take this class, roessler gets striaght to the point and doesn't waste a second of class time, great teacher
INTENSE! his class is similar to the university level. great preparation though! reccomended for all you ambitious ones out there! seek Rosseler, he will allow you to acquire the skills necessary to succeed outside of the OCC academic confines.
Pretty tough teacher, but fair and humorous - the genius bottle joke was one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard. Lectures are very intense and informative; however, you have a lot opportunities to listen to stories about his ex-wivies.
Passionate, Brilliant and Dedicated. Do not take any other teacher for this class. However, be prepared to study. It is a challenge. But you will be proud when you succeed in his class. And you will know more leaving than when you came in.
AMAZING teacher, PASSIONATE, inspiring, he will change your life. Take this class whether it is required or not, be prepared to expand your mind and broaden your horizons! You have to work to get an A, but its worth it...
a great teacher. passionate about his subject and his students, if you take notes and study hard before the test you will get an A.
You have to take into account that the class was in the HONORS section, therefore he had to "raise the bar". He covers A LOT of material: lemme put it this way, you'll need a fast hand!
great teacher! very interesting and inspiring lectures. should only take the course after you're already familiar with regular college courses because it'd be a very challenging experience.
Keep in mind this is an honors course, it is very challenging. His lectures are stimulating. You need to have an open mind for his course. He shows extreme passion for the subject which is wonderful to see. Added bonus he is quite the eye candy.
This professor will have an amazing impact on your life. He brings the subject matter to life and he integrates many important elements of political science. In addition to being an awesome teacher, he provides a daily stand-up routine with each lecture!
Energetic & passionate professor, exciting class, vibrant lectures, engaging material: lots of fun. Write FAST on his tests - there's a lot of material to cover!
I had to drop his class because I did poorly on the first two exams, but I retook it one year later because I really liked him and I loved his class! (BTW, I got an A) He's very helpful and has excellent and hilarious anecdotes. Just take good notes!
Good teacher, good person.
This has got to be one of the most challenging and inspiring classes ever.I've taken 2 other classes with him and he is one of the best professors around. Very fun, informative, exciting. The tests are killer but the hard work is worth all your time.
This guy was the most amazing prof...I would reccomend him 100% to anyone taking either History or Pol Sci courses at OCC... he's a great teacher, very intelligent, well-informed,& very entertaining...wicked sense of humor too! Hard work but so worth it!!
his lectures are informative. you must take good notes. make sure youre detailed, clear and concise; he is very particularly about your answers and grades tough. take this class to prepare yourself for a 4 year institution.
Good teacher. Excellent. I really enjoy his Opinions and humer about Current events. He knows exactly what he is talking about, seems intimidating at first but a very good guy. Just make shur you Know you stuff for the test. He Grades Pretty hard in the Honors classes. Great.
arrogant professor. He makes you memorize his own words on the tests that you dont really learn, then grades extremely hard. Take this class with extreme caution and dedication otherwise he will flunk you
Very passionate about the suject he teaches.
This guy sucks, grades super hard and you dont really learn. Demands too much and doesnt really help students. He picks favorites, usually asian girls. He has a sarcastic sense of humor that isn't very funny. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
I'll never take an honors class again. I got a "B" but I had to almost shoot myself in the head to get it. I'd take it all over again if I didn't have to take his tests. He is definately interesting to listen to. I learned plenty- I'm just glad I'm still alive to enjoy my passing grade.
This is definitly a class that when you get an A you will look back on it with pride. He grades the exams super rigidly. My recommendation is to pack them with loads of seemingly insignificant details. I did well on the exams by making an indepth study guide, and then memorizing the hell out of it.
he really isn't that great. has really long complicated definitions that you're supposed to memorize for the test, which completely defeats the whole purpose of learning
His tests are hard...ESpecially the last one!!! he grades super rigid and you must memorize EVERYTHING for the tests. Really helpful, but again the tests are tough.
he is a great teacher! best political science professor so far!!! his tests are pretty hard but he grades fairly!
Made Intro to International Relations (the driest of subject material) come to life. Contrary to previous comments he does NOT require verbatim answers, but answers that show FULL understanding of subject. On definition part of exams examples are essential. On second half, full practical application of IR principles in real life required. GREAT!
Amazing teacher! his lectures are so good and very entertaining!
Hard tests, but gives great lectures. Also, you can improve your grade in the end with a written assignments, where he practically hands you the A. However, there are a lot of materials! You have to love reading to take this class. Though, he is a very nice person and a great teacher.
Highly recommend! great teacher!! His lectures are interesting and he involves a lot of humor. He gives blue book tests but allows plenty of time to review.
BEST PROFESSOR AT OCC!!!
An excellent teacher. If you listen to the lectures you will be able to grasp the concepts he asks about on the tests. His test are kind of difficult, but he hands out a study guide which makes it much easier. Don't believe anything you hear - Study for both parts of the tests.
This guy is hilarious... you never really know what to expect. But he does get off topic a lot and the tests are extremely hard. Make sure you come to class well rested cause the lectures can get boring..plus if your debating whether or not you want to take this class .. ask yourself if you like to read because YOU DO! A LOT!!
Awesome professor. SO HILARIOUS! His stories are the best, seriously. His tests are difficult but they are word for word based off of his notes given in class. Either go to every class or make some friends. NOTES ARE YOUR LIFE IN THIS CLASS. Honestly, the book isn't necessary. Just take good notes...
such a cool guy! i learned a lot in this class and i have yet to come across a professor more intelligent than roessler. to succeed you've gotta take a lot of notes.. he gives study guides, so in my opinion you've gotta be stupid to get less than a B in this class.
He has a lot of knowledge and has very interesting lectures with a lot of humor and little fun facts to keep you up and involved. His tests are easy as long as you take good notes and study if you don't well then good luck. He has little asignments but they will only help you do better on the test if you do them. It's a great class
Hold on for dear life if you choose to take this course. It's a really rough roller coaster ride. One of the best professors out there. Tests are extremely hard, you have to comprehend everything because you don't know what will appear on the test. Highly recommended for those of you who want to be challenge.
Professor Roessler was a very interesting teacher, some teachers lectures are super boring, his was not. The test were difficult but if you pay attention in class you can get everything out of the lecture. I hardly opened the books. His lecture clarity really helps for those of you who actually pay attention in class. He should be fulltime!
he's a coo dude n all but he grades real hard n he's very specific on what he wants. i got a real bad grade on mah first exam hope i do better on tha next one. over all he's a funny teacher, his notes are good, but sum times he goes way off talkin bout random ass stuff n i get lost.
Ah git lost too yo. sumtimes da class is a snoozer, but every once inna while its interesting, y'know what I'm sayin?
What can I say about Roessler? I LOVE HIM! He's a great guy and he loves what he does, which shows. I've taken 2 of his classes. For the tests, make a study guide (usually 5-8 pages) and memorize the HELL out of it because he's pretty picky when it comes to grading. The classes are hard, but you earn your grade. I got two A's but I worked for them.
I am a student that gets A's and B's and I failed his class. I was there every day on time and I studies hard. He is not clear on what he exactly wants you to write on his exams. Do not take this teacher he has his own political agenda! ! ! In addition he uses his classroom for his own stage to spew out his own ideology.

No Syllabus for 4 meetings, test on the 5th meeting. No clear assignments. States that his house burnt and he lost all materials. Lectures from personel notes, talks fast, no handouts, incomplete hand made viewgraphs. 1st test reflected 15 percent questions related to class lectures. Tests with no notes permitted. No comments on returned test.

I agree with you! But I know you said that just cuz he said somethin in our class ha. But I really think he's a good teacher and makes poli sci interesting, the tests are kinda hard though and I study like I've never studied for any class before... But it's kinda reasonable because it Is a 6-week class.
I want an "A" too...Ill settle for a "C" though.
Definitely not the class to take if you're a slacker. I bombed the class a few semesters ago because I had underestimated it & overestimated my own abilities. There are 3 exams, all of which have "study guides" wherein you must find the supplementary info. But aside from that he's informative, passionate, & a bit repetetive. I recieved an A.
Very challenging class. Exams are all essay! Be prepared to work very hard in this class.
Very well informed. He knows his stuff very well and articulates it clearly. Tests are no more different/difficult than any other "upper-level" course at OCC (if there is such a thing). His grading scale is pretty leanient as well. He's very down to earth and has no problem helping his students. Excellent professor.
Brilliant mind! I found myself enjoying lectures about what I expected to be dry stuff -- history of government systems, etc. Never boring! Tests were always preceded by a study sheet and gave students a real chance to show what they learned.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken, but the A I am most proud of earning. I thought it'd be an OK honors class since I had taken a lot of APs in HS, but it was uncomparable. Tests are ALL essays and he likes things close to verbatim, so it makes it seem like it's more of what you can remember rather than what you know.
Very hard class. He never took attendence but if you miss lecture, you miss a lot of material. Test are hard and you must study a lot. I learned more in this class then I ever expected. Made me appreciate Government and I can actually tell you who the members of our Senate are! Great Teacher. Weird, but very smart.
tests are hard as hell and you have to study your ass off. you can get A's on the tests, but you must study more than you ever have before. really. but he's a good teacher. spews out his own opinion and ideolgy a lot but you get that with any professor. so yah. good but hard. take this class if you want to learn. don't take it if you slack off.
a really good teacher.......test you have to memorize a lot word for word.........but overall great teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the BEST teacher I have ever had. His lectures are so interesting and this guy really knows his stuff. You learn a lot from him and he makes his lectures entertaining. Tests are TOUGH!! You have to work hard for your grade. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Prof. Roessler!!
I'm not easily offended. But sometimes he'll say things that are a little off color just to make a point. He's also pretty darn biased especially in his retelling of events. That aside, he knows what he's talking about and when you think you understand something, he'll throw in a twist that makes you go, "Ooooh." Really informative class...and hard
As said before a hard class. Except calculus I have never studied so hard before. If you didn't master the test stuff, you won't finish exams within the time limit. But!!! - got C on my first exam and still was able to get an overall A meaning that prof. Roessler will give you a second chance if he sees a serious effort. Take him - but be ready!
Even though it was a challenging class, there was never a boring day of class. He truly knows how to create a relation to the material and the students. His exams are a bit tough and I think there is maybe 1 or 2 homework assignments, but if you show up to class and write down everything he repeats, it's an easy A.
Very interesting class, but also extreemly difficult. Long-form in-class essays are particularly brutal; expect to write about 10-15 single sided blue book pages per exam (3 exams). Fair grading, if you miss class do not expect to pass this class at all. It is very easy to get behind on the reading, you need to get through 4 books, so stay on it
Roessler is the best teacher I have ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable and extremely helpful. NOT AN EASY CLASS, I got an A but it was the hardest I have ever worked in any class ever and it is the grade I am most proud of. Work hard, show interest, participate, show up, and you will do good. He counts improvement which is nice.
Brilliant, brilliant teacher, one of the best i've EVER taken. Roessler knows exactly what he is talking about, although some people may find his humor crude and synical i love it. His tests are easy if you listen to what he says and the study guide he gives you helps so much but ask what he wants for each S/A. I loved his class i recommend to all.
I really did not like his comments/ jokes about his own life and in general. Love international relations and political science but the teacher made it a nightmare!
He's a smart guy but I had a problem with his teaching style. You better have a laptop or really fast writting skills because he reads off notes really quickly and his point is hard to follow because he goes off on tangents. Good thing is he gives a studyguide for the test and everything can be found in either the book or his notes.
He's a great teacher, he knows his stuff and he is VERY clear in what he's teaching. You definitely need to attend class and I wouldn't say he's "EASY" he actually requires you to (god forbid) THINK a little. He grades on progress, which is a GREAT concept that many teachers don't do. I would definitely recommend him. He's very helpful.
I have no freaking clue how this guy has so many good reviews. Please listen to me when I say he is the worst teacher at this school. He rambles and half the time you can't even understand him. His tests are freaking ridiculously hard and honestly you have to figure out how to decipher his notes before you can even study them! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!
Roessler is great. Strict, humorous, knows what he's talking about, clear about the information, great discussions. You rarely use the textbook because he lectures on everything you need to know. He grades you on your improvement, so if you show that you are doing better, he'll help you get the grade your looking for. Take his class its worth it
DONT TAKE AS SUMMER SCHOOL COURSE - way too much info to take in during 6 weeks. Wish I'd taken it during the fall semester. He knows what he's talking about, but the tests are all essay format and you better be SPECIFIC in your answers. Good guy, funny, interesting, but the class is deceivingly hard (but don't bother buying the textbook).
He is an amazing teacher, you must go in ready to work and with an open mind. He gives you a study guide, just ask him what he wants for each and study for those. All his tests are essay, but go forbid you had to write a little. Would highly recommend if you wanna learn, knows alot be ready for a man who knows his stuff.
Tough teacher. Hard class. Study hard. Good guy.
He is a man who truly understands his subject matter. His lectures are emphatic, entertaining, and easy to follow. All of the tests come from the lecture, so be sure to take scrupulous notes. Most difficult class I have ever taken, but an A is attainable with hard work, extensive study, and an interest in U.S. Government.
He definitely knows what he's talking about. His tests have two parts: a long essay, short answers. You don't really need textbooks. Everything on the test is in the class notes. A great teacher. Funny one, too.
This class is quite difficult. The exams are all written in a small blue book. He repeats a lot of his jokes (which aren't even funny). What he taught in class didn't make sense and it didn't even help me when i studied his notes for the exams. He's a lousy teacher and i should have dropped the class when i had the chance.
2 homework assignments entire year. lectures are interesting (think of dead poet society but poli sci), but his exams are death. It is essay format, questions consist of "Federalist 10," and he expects you to write everything that he lectured about word for word. Prepare to spend a good 3+ days of pure memorization. :(
I dropped this class bcs I missed too many classes(u can ONLY miss 2)but I HIGHLY recommend him if u R looking for a challenge&want to learn.Lectures are very interesting-he's a brilliant man.Essay exams R VERY hard, grades difficultly.I never worked so hard for a class. But he is great. He grades on progress,so u can STILL get an A if u fail an exam.
Great Teacher. If you take notes and read the lecture you'll do good. He's a very good political science teacher besides his biases he gets to the point. Also on a side-note, he probably works for the CIA so watch out. (That's for you Mr. Roessler.)
Best lecture's from any subject I have ever sit through. Tests are extremely difficult but passable if you are willing to put in a lot of work. Highly recommend Prof. Roessler
Mark is an okay guy. He's more of a man's man. So for this feminist, no thanks. He lingers on the border of inappropriate at times. Although, the material is irrelevant and boring lectures. He gives out a study guide that is GOLDEN. use it, youll get an A. all blue book exams. study hard. i got an A and he grades on progression. so take his class!!
best teacher ever...hot and cynical like i like them...i heart you prof roessler!
I am an honors student at OCC and I highly recommend all of his classes. Though there is a textbook I NEVER OPENED IT. Don't miss class b/c tests come directly from lecture material. He makes the lectures enjoyable. I got an A in his class. Grades on progression (An C, then B, then A could possibly get you an A). def take his classes.
Roessler is highly overrated. If you want to listen to his biased political babble, and recite his philosophies back to him verbatim on exams, then this is the class for you! If you actually want to learn about government in an accurate, unbiased atmosphere, and think critically about pertinent issues, then stay away! I would go with Marcina.
Roessler is very overrated. He has a big ego and tells useless self centered stories that are a waste of time. He tries to come off as a satirical conservative character like Steve Colbert but it's not funny, just creepy. Your grade is only from 4 exams, all essay. You never really know what he wants - his explanations are all over the place.
really interesting and funny professor...i hate the way he grades though...i got an b on the first 3 exam and an a on the last one and ended up getting a b...the guy next to me got f's on all the exams and a b on the last and ended up with the same grade as me...i personally dont see the logic in that
Prof. Roessler is THE best teacher at OCC. His tests are HARD, but what you get out of the class is well worth it. Prepares you for when you transfer to a university. Doesn't hold your hand through the whole course. Plus he's funny.
Brilliant professor. He lectures the entire class using only a cup of coffee. Notes are in his head. if you can keep up, he is exactly what your looking for.
This class is definitely difficult and you will need to work hard - but the class itself is very interesting. He's a great guy and I HIGHLY recommend taking him for the honors section, I got high B's on all the tests and still got an A in the class :)
Advanced! Must have more than a general knowledge of history and politics to understand lectures. He teaches as if everyone already knows what he's talking about. Definitely good training for psci majors intending to transfer. Shows films. Fair grading. All essay exams. No homework aside from reading. Requires diligent effort!
good teacher, knows his stuff, class requires a lot of understanding of the political and historical spectrum. fair grader, sometimes funny
Justice!! Justice!!! As long as you can define and act according the real justice, you WILL pass his class with an A! So,Justice is work hard and strive! XD
You have to work hard in the class, but it is well worth it. He is very engaging and brings the subject to life. One of the most fun classes I have ever taken even though it was also one of the hardest A's I've ever earned.
Best class ever. Roessler is an amazing professor. You will actually learn in his class. He grades based on improvement. I got an F, C, and 2 Bs and I got a B in the course. In the Honors class you have to write a couple really short response type papers that are super easy. This class does take effort, but it's well worth it, plus he's funny!
He is a GREAT teacher gives good examples and tells good stories, and humorous. he teaches honors and must admit test are tough must study as soon as he gives study guide. overall he is a great teacher you learn a lot.
i took mark in 2011 spring. my 1st semester in USA. he is by far the best professor i ever had. occ should make statue of him bcos he is the man. i topped the class for that semester. in that class, u get u realize why it is called honors lol. the class is the hardest class i have ever taken.. if u get A in this class, u r ready for any class
he is so inspirational, charismatic n hilarious that he will look like 6ft 5 by the end of the semester lol. this class is not for the weak trust me, but u wil take most out it. even today, i apply what he taught me in the class. absolutely genius of a teacher. i have upmost respect for this guy. as i said, work is tough and rough!
Mad respect for this man! He knows his stuff and tries to keep his class engaged via stories and playful sarcasm. He puts his class notes on his website so make sure to print that out because it will make note taking significantly easier. When giving answers, make sure it is extremely detailed. All in all, he is one of the few gems at OCC.
If you study the study guide, you'll do well. Take good notes and to do that, show to class. He's entertaining so the class isn't boring. There's an essay to write towards the end of the semester but it's not hard at all. TAKE HIM. You'll learn much. At the end, I got an A.
very difficult class. Must study a lot. however, he clarifies on what he wants on the exams. very entertaining in class
This guy is legit. One of my best classes I have ever taken. Yes, you have to put the time in but he makes the material so interesting with his stories and humor. I actually enjoyed showing up to his class. And I ended with an A (make sure you put in the work on the study guides).
If you are looking for a challenge that truly pays off with hard work than this is the class to take. I don't know how many times I need to tell you guys to use the quizlet website & that study guide along with it to study!! Study hard & early. It truly helps! Funny guy, awk/hard to approach. I don't regret taking it. Would recommend.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He made me interested in a subject I had no prior interest in (especially impressive because it was a morning class). Favorite class of the semester. Entertaining and thought provoking lectures. Don't be dismayed by his aggressive style, participate and work hard and he will meet you more than half way.
Awesome class! I had a great time in his class super chill guy. I totally recommend Mark for political science
His class is great, i liked taking his class he seems to know how to make this class more fun and enjoyable.. Hands up for Mark!
I was really looking forward to Professor Roessler's class, but it was much different than expected. The entire class is oral presentations based on the 2 required textbooks. Within the first 2 weeks of class, the class size dropped from 55 to about 17. Roessler is a cool guy, but his lectures take up the first 25 minutes of class and are boring.
If you have the chance to take a class with Roessler, DO IT. He does not make the class an "easy A" but you will walk out of the class having learned something. I had the option of taking this as a day class twice a week, I took the once a week, night class BECAUSE it was Roessler's class. I would suggest everyone take one of his classes.
I love Mark Roessler so much, I've attended classes of his I'm not even IN. He's by far one of my favorite teachers at occ, and one of the greats in general. He mumbles though, so sit close. It's criminal that he's still not full time at coast! You're going to learn so much, and the stories are lovely.
Tough teacher, but well worth it. Critiques of assigned readings to be debated in class. Had six 4-page papers to write over the course. He starts wConstitution and Fed10 and gives a tough "midterm" on that material, then its all papers. No tests. I miserably failed exam, got a B in the class from papers. Great teacher! You get the grade you earn.
Has a great personality but the class usefulness is highly overrated.3 testsgreen book with short answer. you must remember all dates, names. study guide a MUST! its about memory memory memory! he likes trained minds! to repeat and do as instructed. So, no thinking outside the box! I was hoping for debates and critical thinking. never happened
This was my favorite class all semester. Great debates and discussions of current issues. 1 exam & 6 papers. Exam is difficult but you can still get an A even if you fail it by making it up with the papers. We had an exceptional class so the debates were always very stimulating & lively. I couldn't have asked for a better PoliSci class! Great Prof!
Professor Roessler is an excellent teacher. This class is hard but it worth it because you learn a lot. I will recommend him because you will learn a lot about politic. He cares about the students who care about his class so pay attention and work hard to get a good grade. Recomendation: If you are lazy, don't take this class.
A well-rounded professor who cares about his subject. His lectures should only be used as background for any notes. The class is hard, the reading is hard, but it is worth it. Not an easy A, don't take the class if you are not prepared.
