He has favorites and at times picks on people. However he is a nice guy, however he is horrible in office hours ( doesnt know how to help students). he needs to calm down the ego and understand that students (not all but most) have minds of their own!
GREAT PROF...DON'T GRADUATE WITHOUT TAKING A CLASS OF HIS! informative, interesting..and he does not have an ego. he's aware and strives to make his students such as well.
Great class... love the attitude and wit...Keep it up and I'll definetly be looking for another class taught by this man in the near future

I look forward to his lectures every week, because his lectures are amusing, and his sense of humour is great.
Best prof, Can't say enough good things about him, plus I have to go read the Globalization reader... SO I got to go.
Every lecture is entertaining and informative and he really makes you think about things you never would have considered..a great prof!
Excellent teacher. Always prepared and on time. The lectures are interesting and the assignments are challenging, but fair.
amazing and inspiring
Awesome professor, can really relate to student. Is always on the ball and really gets the class into it. No subject is boring, and though he's a really hard marker, his lectures are always really interesting. Do not graduate without having heard him.
not as creative as last term in POL 3143, comes across as arrogant in office hours
so arrogant - it's really not cool...definitely loves the subject though - but he's completely one-sided and also, make sure you call him DR!!!!!!
The class has been great. The material is very current and useful!
awsome teacher as he makes going to class fun. its the only class that i refuse to skip .
Great teacher, he makes the class interesting and fun
Great lecturer, he has the ability to capture the audience in the lectures. Also is very clear on what is important and what isn't, especially with the textbook.

AWESOME CLASS!! This is what i went to university for, discussion, debates, it's awesome. salter is a fair marker and an exceptional lecturer and his class is interesting and fun, only one that i've never missed a class yet.
Really good. Knowledgable and energetic.
on the arrogant side, but awesome in class, fun lectures, interesting material
He's arrogant and likes to talk about himself alot. He's a hard marker for a first year class but his lectures are interesting and he is very knowledgeable about the course material.
excellent class. lots of media. great discussions.
reasonable, very intelligent. Overall, a good prof.
Great teacher, even at 8:30: he brings donuts!! --and makes the most boring topics quite interesting.
This prof is young, arrogant, and thinks probably thinks of himself as really really smart. In all honesty he's interesting, but too pompus.
Great prof, interesting discussions and lectures.
I don't like him, but obviously some people do- it comes down to personal preference. I find he chit-chats with old students too much during class, and the subject material is terrible (not his fault though)
Arrogant, pompous, unhelpful, marks a 2nd yr class like it's a 4th yr one. Interesting lectures, but overall, thumbs DOWN
he is incredibly full of himself, his attitude changes from in class and outside class. Outside he is bit harsh and rude for a new pof. even though his material is awsome he himself is angry
Great guy in class, very smart, very specific assignments. Reasonable exams, though a tough marker. 2156 pressured like a 4th yr. Great disc. on webct and fun in class. great lectures, although 2156 material is torture! 1102 was a blast, 2156, not so much.
He is quite arrogant
The man is hilarious!I don't don't consider him to be arogant, he's just really smart and may come off as such. His lectures are really entertaining and educational. He kinda reminds me of Mr. Bean and he's a sharp dresser! Good work Dr. Salter!
Best lecturer I've had to far, though hs is slighlty pompous and arrogant. Always interesting, never boring. Assignments are so specific it's very difficult to get high marks. Ultimately, lectures = good, assignments = crap.
He is quite proud and arrogant. He does not respect deadlines and just tries to impress everybody. He likes to show off and does not teach/help at all. He has preference toward certain type of students.
Tells the story about his "friend" who got a bunch of reviews on ratemyprofessor.com calling his "friend" arrogant. To be fair though, I didn't think he was arrogant at all. In fact, I found him quite likeable and entertaining despite the boring material.
Tips for future students: 1. NEVER call him anything but DR.Salter 2.Pretend like you love post-modernism and he invented it. 3. Laugh at all his jokes but don't make any yourself - only he may mock.
A tough nut to crack, but he pushes students. I really like his lectures and he manages to make some really heavy issues managable. Not too thrilled with his marking. Will sometimes come across as arrogant in his office, but once he gets talking he's actually really insightful and helpful.
This prof is brilliant! Also has the best stories!
Using the discourse of the left, but has the arrogance of the right.
Changes deadlines at a whim then refuses to admit it.HUGE ego.extremely arrogant.Incredibly confusing policy on internet sources.Watch out for his all-encompassing definition of plagiarism. However, very entertaining lectures and highly knowledgeable.Cool stories, too.
Really interesting and fun class, never skipped a lesson!!!
Interesting professor, and a great lecturer. But he's extremely arrogant and has a large chip on his shoulder. Tries a little to hard to be "one of the kids". Hard marker, and it's hard to give him what he wants on assignments (not in the sense that he's vague, but in that he's overly specific to the point of utter confusion).
dr salter knows what he's talking about. powerpoint presentations were well organized and topics of discussion were very interesting. Amazing first yr lecturer (have yet to have him in any other yrs)keeps your attention and explains issues clearly. Exams are hard and require a good understanding of the course content. ask fo help if needed!
He's by far one of the most interesting profs ever! You'd be crazy to skip classes unless u really had to! SO funny with the best stories. He reminds me of Mr. Bean...don't ask.
I had him first year and i didn't do too good in his class but i LUVED him!! He's an awesome prof and i've been trying to get into one of his classes ever since! He sarcastic, funny, witty, and smart!
Interesting prof with strong teaching abilities. However... Tends to teach stuff unrelated to the actual course. Has a serious attitude problem. Unclear on expectations. Marking seems almost at random.
most hilarious prof i've ever had, awesome lectures that are both entertaining and informative. marking system can only be described as "humbling", but worth the crap mark for the learning experience.
Not Good.
Entertaining as hell. Lectures were awesome, well worth attending, if somewhat unrelated to the class. Assignments on the other hand...hardest most frustrating things in the world, and his standards are through the roof. I have never worked harder in a class, and it was probably the lowest mark of my university career.
He is a very good prof. His class is one of the hardest that I have had at university, but I learned a lot. He has got a big ego, but he has the smarts and wit to back it up. I strongly suggest taking one of his classes, as long as your not afraid of work.
this mr. bean looking prof only gets credit for his somewhat interesting lectures even though they have nothing to do with the assignments. He doesnt help and the only answer i get to my questions are "use ur judgement" and other b.s. like that. dont take him. tell all ur friends not take take his courses.
Very arrogant and lackluster performance. Lectures and entertaining, but not educational. When a professor has no motivation, it is evident in his lectures. Likes to talk very about himself and has no problem degrading students. Stay away!
He's a brilliant man and amazing lecturer. Unclear and unhelpful about assignment expectations. Extremely hard marker and tons of reading/work. Take only if willing to work work work. Still, it's hard not to like the guy.
Salter ruined my life! He clearly was a **** and it was evident in the way he conducted himself. I mentioned an Arab comment once in class and he did not even acknowledge it. I was thinking of taking it to the ombudsman but decided not to since I still am in Pol Sci When I asked for an extention he said "U have 48 hours and 20 min. Deal With It!"
What a dick! Do not take his class.
hardest course i've ever taken.Salter tries to be original by creating assignments that are way off the line, you gotta work your a$$ off until 5 a.m. he does not articulate what he really wants, and sometimes in class he contradicts himself & finds the worst examples. I think he shouldn't be teaching this class though. but he's a great professor
Ill give him the hot marks but that's all he gets. He's cute in an arrogant kind of way. Definitely did not enjoy this class - Likes to hear himself talk and is incredibly condescending with everyone. And good GOD dont call him "Mr. Salter" - Thats doctor to you. I got A+'s on all his papers but failed his midterm. Completely unrelated.
This was definetly the most challenging couses I have ever taken. You have to earn every mark in this course as the assignments are extremely difficult, BUT i took a lot away from this course. Salter is an amazing lecturer and the course material was very interesting(although somewhat unrelated). I recommend this course to those willing to work!
A hard marker, very smart with an ego to back it. But over all I enjoyed the course. Actually my best one so far! He may be general in what he wants on exams, etc. But think about it, 'use your judgment': you define what -you- mean and then back it up. It got me an A.
Useless course in my estimation, and particularly with this prof teaching it. He is rude and arrogant, and insulting (apparently, students should spend 70 hours a week on his course alone- and if we don't- or have a job perhaps- we're just plain lazy). Unless you like cocky, anal types, stay away from this prof.
Unreal prof. Only one I've ever taken more than one class from (I've taken 3). He is INSANELY hard to please, but it makes the hard work worth it. Plus he's hilarious, interesting, and slightly dreamy. Most people seem to dislike him, but he's the only prof I've ever liked.
He knows his stuff truly well, lots of extras in which he tries to bond with students. Unfortunately, his assignments are rigidly marked, no room for anything out of the ordinary. NEVER do ANYTHING on Israel/Palestine, he takes sides. Overall good prof, but could be a bit more lenient.
i like this course. Salter's lectures and good and interesting. He is one of the smartest people I have come across and he knows it. I am learning a lot, however, he is terrifying. Every question I have asked, he looks at me as if I have 2 heads, so I have just stopped asking questions. The assignments seem easy but are marked hard.
Great class. Mountainous readings. The amount of work is reasonable but the quality must be impeccible. Make sure you qualify every word you write.
I had no problem with Salter, pretty much everything you hear is true. The course is not an easy ride, the stuff is interesting, there's an average amount of reading for fourth year. But, he does not take any kind of criticism well at all. He will use his power to put you in your supposed place as a student to make himself feel better it seems.
Huge ego, always correct (in his opinion). Looks like KD Lang
Salter's lectures are hilarious and will teach you a lot about research, but his assignments are very difficult and although he thinks they are "specific", it is VERY easy to miss the point. Utilize the help of your TAs and DO NOT leave these assignments to the last minute. He was nice to me but he's pretty cruel if you're disrespectful.
he's challanging, and it's awesome. dont take his class and expect to do well and not put in hours of work. i have never worked so hard in my life, but it's highly rewarding. awesome prof. very very intelligent.
Awesome prof, the class was awsome, but very hard and challenging, I will never take his classes for credits again it is so stressful but I will definitlely resgister as an auditor in his class about security.. I recommend that everyone takes pol 2156 with him it is a great experience
He is a good lecturer but an extremely hard marker.
Very good lecturer...very interesting courses/class content... marks well if you put alot of effort into papers and have clear and concise arguments
He is a fantastic professor. Should get tenure. Good at Halo. Lost touch with Christmas though...
AWESOME PROFESSOR! He's smart, funny and his method of teaching is one of a kind. Before class starts he plays music...he is clear about what he wants for assignments. prepare to work for your mark though..not too hard just go to class and write down what he says and u'll do fine. Definately want another class with him!
unless you want to fail your other courses, do not take this course with him. he is too strict and unclear
He knows his field of study and is very active with national and international governmental conference. He also uses Wiki and WebCt to the fulliest.
You must not believe many of the comments here that portray Dr. Salter as a fiend, because he is truly the most awesome professor...ever. He's extremely friendly, but also expects you to be smart. If you enjoy a challenge, show an interest in the course material and take him seriously, then you'll do well.
i hate salter. if you do not agree with his point of view, he doesnt agree with your paper. he marked me down because i went against what he said in one of his lectures.this man needs to calm down and learn that theres more than one point of view.
All i can say is that this guy must love the smell of his own farts. This guy is one erogant peice of work. Will make the odd funny joke but when you look at his actual teaching, he is terrible. Does not prepare you for the rediculous exams he gives and is an extremly hard marker on assignments. Life is to short. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES
someone needs to teach him how to be a better teacher !
he gives too much readings , and too much information that there is no way to understand everything , and when you try to go ask him about it he makes you even more confused. just terrible-i can not understand how he got 2 teaching awards- so weird !
Wow. I am extremely surprised by the slew of negative comments. I'm guessing students are still feeling bitter about the exam. Anyways, I personally loved this class. The professor was hilarious and the class was challenging. I can honestly say that I learned a lot. Never once did I myself witness the professor act arrogantly or disrespectfully to
never again mark salter, i never worked harder for a course and never hated a prof more ...
AVOID SALTER AT ALL COST! I took his class in French and he clearly doesn't have the competence to teach in this language. Plus he is extremely arrogant and a hard marker. He decided he didn't like me, which he actually told me directly when I went to his office, and marked my essays in consequence...
I have never been more terrified of a prof in my life. Most intimidating. Oddly enough, I really liked him.
I can understand why certain people said those harsh things.. but I think he just gives a bad impression, he's extremly helfull and you can tell he knows a lot. He's one of the best professors I've ever had although his French is pretty bad and it is insulting to fracophones considering its a 4th year course, otherwise, he's amazing.
he is not a good guy...try to see him in his office hours and you would know what i mean.
Brilliant inspiring academic
Salter is the type of person you just want to be around all the time and listen to talk forever, I wish he could teach all of my classes, or have conversations with him on a regular basis. I miss his lectures.
A lot of readings and covers sooo much information. Hard evaluations but the class itself it pretty interesting.
It was the most difficult class I took all year, but it was worth it. Salter is an amazing educator, and I learnt more from him than I did from any other class all year. However, I wont take annother one of his classes ever again - they are too hard!
Awesome prof.
Pure Awesomeness.
needs to get over himself
Completely unrealistic expectations for first year students. The majority of my 3rd year classes are easier than his first year, first semester class. Do not recommend to any one, specifically first years.
hard class, you need to work YOUR ass off to finish with a good note. It's a hard class once again, really need to be a brain.
If you go to class and pay attention everything is there, i was told this class would be so hard, but after finishing it it was not bad at all, plus it's really interesting.
I hated going to this class! It was very hard to understand if you never took a globalization class, especially for first year students. In high school we were not taught this, and if you are in the same position as me, avoid this class. He has way too much information for first year students!
Good professor. Entertaining. Don't ask stupid questions.
I didnt find this class so hard. I had good marks. But It's verry disorganisied. This teacher speaks more of his answomeness and his experiences than the class materiel. I asked him a question and he was cold and rude. the info he gives is questionable. Not available for students: This is not good teaching skills. But he's funny and entertaining.
Salter is an absolutely fantastic lecturer... mind you, his expectations for 1st years could be called unreasonable. Best prof I've ever had but I've avoided him since because he marks so hard so it's up to you what is most important?
Possibly one of the hardest courses I have ever had. Also possibly the most rewarding. Many people take Salter's stories about his "awesomness" too seriously. He's joking around and having a bit of fun, relax. Hard marker, but amazing to listen to. The only time I've ever felt like giving a standing ovation to a prof.
Avoid this class, I'm not even joking. I did relatively well but I really have no idea what I even learned. He covers way to much material and makes it extremely abstract to link to the underlying principles of the course. Would be a great class if it wasn't an INTRO to Globalization class. This class made me switch my major.
Great prof, hard class, but he makes it fun.
Interesting material and entertaining prof - however course and lectures are disorganized making it hard to follow and prepare for exams. I did well but found him slightly cocky, unavailable and unapproachable. Do the readings and get to know his TAs and you will be fine.
Dr. Salter is, in a word, a character. Although a little disorganized, his lectures are extraordinarily well delivered. Slackers beware; Dr. Salter is not to be messed with. Attend lectures and do readings and you'll live. The greatest compliment I can bestow is that he is eye-opening - the world looks a little different after a Dr. Salter class.
Interesting lectures, make sense if you do the readings.and, he's funny
great teacher, really funny and interesting. his classes are dynamic and keeps you on your toes. slackers need not apply
His slides aren't very discriptive. Often they dont relate to what he says. Without going to class there is no way to succeed. Overall, interesting and entertaining but unorganized. He missed 6 classes. Booooo!
Good teacher, he's really interesting. However, his lectures are disorganized and often we end up talking about something else, rather than what was scheduled. Definitely attend class if you want to do well!
Cocky, interesting, energetic. The best thing about the class is that if you attend the lectures, you generally have a clear understanding of what he expects.
Mark Salter is clearly interested in what he is talking about, but his delivery is often confusing or comes across as him being pretentious. Some of the material was only questionably related to the course. Despite this, he was a fair marker and an entertaining lecturer
Little cocky, but he makes up for it with his thought-provoking lectures. Go to class, do the readings and you'll be fine. Can tell he keeps up-to-date with the events related to the class. Always treats the questions from students with an open attitude and answers them thoughtfully. Don't be late to class...or go on Facebook/ other sites.
Most interesting class I've had. He makes it clear what he expects on the assignments and even gives you the questions on the exam. The assignments were spoon-fed to you. Need to attend class to succeed, Salter does not make it able to pass the course without attending lectures. Overall very interesting and eye-opening.
Very cocky. Yet lectures are by far the most entertaining and informative ones I've had to date. Lectures with passion, although that passion can lead to him getting ahead of the class and leaving students confused at times.
Probably one of the most interesting lecturers at Ottawa. First half of the course was easy. However, second assignment and exam were difficult to succeed on even though exam questions were given ahead of time. Missed a lot of critical classes (eg, before midterm, before first assignment). The TA's were forced to step in frequently.
DR. Salter is a terrible professor: why? He's interesting, i'll give him that. But he's just way too full of himself to be helpful to students, he changes the curriculum to whatever he wants and simply put- thinks he's a cut above anyone that doesn't hold a doctorate. Get off your high horse, Salter.
His lectures are confusing, only he knows what he is talking about.
Horrible prof. Very fully of himself, not very helpful and almost killed my passion for the subject. My advice: Don't take the course!!!
Not super fun of a class and he's very full of himself, thinks he knows better than everyone else. Saw him in class hours and he straight up told me he tries to fail first years who "don't deserve to be in university". Did ok in his class but wouldn't recommend it.
Likes himself a bit too much, seems like an ok guy but is pretty rude to students he chooses not to like. I would suggest avoiding his class, pretty disappointed because I heard he's pretty good. Guess not!
To call what Salter does in class 'teaching' is a joke. He rambles incoherently about practically anything and does not care whether the students are learning. He marks very hard which doesn't make sense since he doesn't really teach anything. His attitude is also a major problem. Stay away if you can. All in all, I give him two BIG thumbs down!!!
Salter is a fantastic prof. His class is very engaging, and informative. Although he is slightly cocky, he made himself and his TAs available to all the students and has very clear expectations. Loved the class, will continue to take his classes.
Awesome Prof, class is tough, but as long as you pay attention and listen to his directions on the essays you will do fine. Loved the Class, Salter is awesome, by the end of his course you will leave with a different outlook on the world around you (hopefully)
Salter was one of the few profs who actually made me enjoy coming to class and made me feel like I learned something walking out. He was engaging, interesting, and far from boring like most profs who teach straight from a textbook or summarize readings.
I absolutely LOVE his classes. I haven't missed a single one. He's satirical, funny and has actually changed my view of the world and made me think.
He puts everything up on Virtual Campus, and in class, he prettym uch just repeats his powerpoints, and adds in stuff about books and TV shows and whatnot. I didn't consider him to be a very good professor, and he is very arrogant.
hes good
Super interesting lecturer, great stories and experiences. However, the course is very confusing and its difficult to understand the underlying themes of "politics" and "power". Interesting course, but take it with a different prof! Also, be VERY careful about your citations if you do end up in his class.
I am in fourth year now and Mark Salter remains one of the best profs I've ever had. He is a great lecturer. You have to be willing to put the time and effort into it tho cuz he's tough but you will learn so much. He's arrogant but it's in a funny way. He once challenged any student to a game of racketball and actually followed through.
If you are not familiar with politics DO NOT take this class. I was hoping that I may develop an interest for polisci, but this class was brutal. When you go to his office hrs, he explains concepts very vaguely and without further instruction. I would not recommend this class to anyone who is new and does not have much background in politics.
He's the most interesting prof Ive ever had ! He's very clear and he explaines very well. You have to work hard, but it's totally worth it !
Love him. High expectations for his students
He is open-minded and funny in class. But his explanations are sometimes vague and expects students to know what he is talking about without further explanation. His way of answering your questions makes you feel stupid sometimes.
A fantastic prof. This is by no means a bird course but you learn so much that it is definitely worth taking. He has very high expectations for his students, it makes you want to do better. Very intelligent and current man. Also, you make all exams questions as a class which you have ahead of time which is really helpful. Fascinating readings too.
DR.Salter is the Man! He is hilarious in class and makes the course entertaining! He knows the course inside out and keeps students engaged! His deadlines are crystal clear and MUST be followed. Every student should have a class with him ! Best Prof I have ever had! You actually learn stuff!
Very interesting lectures but unreasonable expectations for assignments. Do not take this course if you are not prepared to commit a great deal of time to it. Hardest marker I have ever encountered. I have never been off the honour role in my life and he failed me. Do not take this class if you want to keep up your average.
He has quite the ego, but rightly so. He delves deep into the content of his lectures- so pay attention, because it's difficult to get any real substance out of his slides. His exams and midterms are difficult, but he always ensures that there is a review lecture beforehand. I learned a lot from him- great prof.
Professor Salter is a REALLY GOOD professor. I learned so much in his class. It can be challenging, but it he teaches very interesting things... this is the stuff I came to university for. I actually looked forward to this class.
Do not be tricked into choosing this prof based on his interesting lectures. You will soon find nothing he lectures on is relevant to the course. He is completely disorganized and highly arrogant. His marking is not only difficult it is unreasonably subjective. Marking depends entirely on whether or not you wrote the way he would. Horrible prof.
He's a good professor. Very interesting to listen too. He runs a case based course, so the readings are very important for the midterms. This makes the readings really important. Going to class is important for synthesizing and critiquing the information in the readings, which is required for the tests. Case studies were easy to get a good mark on
I truly enjoyed this class. I found is teaching style to be modern and easily understood. Professor Salter was helpful, quick witted and clarified any problems. It was a very enjoyable class. I recommend it to anyone interested in Poli Sci/History/Economics.
Amazing professor! Truly loved him. Teaches in a language where you understand the concepts. He creates the midterm and final questions with you as well as gives you ways to answer them. He is full of himself but i loved him for that! He is a professor that you either love or hate and i LOVED him! Great class and i recommend it. :)
Perplexing for a few reasons. It's hard to gauge what is noteworthy, and what is just political comment (it's obvious he is more to the socialist side of the political spectrum). Many lectures he talked about one thing that wasn't anything in the course material (a video of Russell Brand) and other times his lectures were great. Fair marker.
Definitely not a boring prof. Highly recommend going to the lectures, or you will miss a lot as he does not post effective powerpoints. However, he is very clear about exactly what he wants on tests and assignments, so as long as you do what he says and go to class its easy to get a good mark.
This professor is arrogant, rude, and overall an awful person. He has made me NEVER want to take another politics class. I attended nearly every class, handed in every assignment on time, and went into his office hours to discuss marks. While in his office hours he takes advantage of this time to tear apart any pride you had in your assignment.
This prof is a incredibly interesting lecturer. Very passionate, he keeps you interested. However, his lectures seemed kinda all over the place for me. You have to attend his lectures and know the texts very very well for the exams. He is very clear on what he expects and is very willing to help. All around prof although very very arrogant
He's a really interesting professor and actually makes morning classes tolerable despite the massive fatigue I go in with. He's also funny, but his marking is hard.
He is arrogant, sarcastic, aloof, and an eviscerating marker. BUT an AMAZING professor, incredibly intelligent, and extraordinarily interesting.
Very strict and intimidating. Good prof overall but make sure you know the concept and content before taking this class. Not great for an elective- tough to understand at times. Not very approachable.
I've had 3 classes with salter and they were all awful. The trick with this guy is to just regurgitate his opinion back to him. Make your life easy and take the same course with a different prof you'll learn just as much get a better mark without the headache
He's pretty self-absorbed and believes that he is on a higher level than his students which results in him treating them that way. But if you can get past his arrogance his lectures are always extremely interesting. I'd like to say he was a hard marker but he gets his TAs to mark everything. Overall he's a great professor with a crappy personality.
GREAT Prof! He really knows what he's talking about. Prof Salter is funny, smart, organized and lets his students know EXACTLY what he's looking for. Easy A if you show up, listen and take notes. He made the class interesting. Exam review was spot on. I would love to have him again!
The B in Mark B Salter stands for BADASS. He acts like he knows he is better than everyone, and he probably is. A real-life Frank Underwood. Very interesting lecturer. He has a lot of good stories and pop culture references, and a very current class.
Salter does NOT care about your success. He likes to brag about himself. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Great prof! Really interesting topics. He's very intelligent. However, he is arrogant and can be snotty. However, this comes with his high credentials. DO NOT skip class and expect to pass. If you're interested in Politics and In't relations take the class.
For a professor so interested in pedagogy, he kind of sucks at teaching. Needs to work on his interpersonal skills.
You really need to get involved in the discussion before the test because he likes to have the students set the exam questions. Expectations can be somewhat unclear. Interesting lectures, but it can be difficult to figure out what is relevant and what is superfluous.
Professor Salter is an amazing lecturer. He really knows his subject and is able to convey it in a clear and thought-provoking way. I went to his office hours and he was very kind and helpful. He does seem intimidating at first but once you talk to him one-on-one, you realize he's really approachable. Work hard, read, and talk to him.
Salter is the best professor I have ever had at uOttawa. Extremely interesting lectures, it's clear he is very passionate about what he does and puts a lot of work into it. His courses are not bird courses, he has high expectations of his students which influences you to work harder and become a better student.
Really good professor. His advice might have saved my life. I hope I can make him proud by acclompishing great things.
Other than being entertaining in class, he is not all that great when it comes to teaching concepts.
Dictionaries may as well include "Mark Salter" as an example of the word "arrogance." Speaking to him outside of lectures is practically unbearable.
Interesting lectures, although somewhat disorganized. Sometimes I wasn't sure what was being taught as part of the curriculum and what was fodder. Really funny guy, though.
pros: I loved the course, very smart prof., very funny sarcastic, the kind of class that at the end makes you want to change the world. cons: his ta's where tough markers and grading was confusing... I'm pretty consistent with my work yet my marks were all over the place. Do no hand in something 10 seconds late or he won't look at it, no excuses
This man teaches like he knows it all. He really boasts of his credentials in the field of immigration, borders and citizenship. His level of engagement with current events is extremely captivating and allows you to engage well with his class. I love his crowd-sourcing exam formats too ^_^
Salter is awesome. The reading list is always super current and up-to-date. A class with him is a unique opportunity to learn from someone at the top of their field.
Incredible prof, he really knows how to work the energy of the room. He's super knowledgeable, even about the randomest things. Highly recommend taking his classes
