Exellent teacher. The best one I've had so far here at MCC, and I'm about to graduate. He definatly knows what he's talking about. This course had ALOT of writing so if that's not your thing then I don't recommend you take this course. But if you think you can handle a slight challenge then you need to take a class of his.

Excellent professor and very cool person. Writing, reading, assignment heavy courses, but that is typical of true history courses. Very funny. Very wise. Very fair to students. Teaching style is lecture, movies, etc. I have never heard anyone complain about him and have recommended him to many other people.

Makes class very enjoyable with jokes and stories. Very good at the actual teaching part (will show movies often). Only problem is for those who dont like to do work this is not your class (1-2 page article summary, 1 page journal entry a week and 3-4 five to six page reports over the semester). Even with that being said, highly recommend him.

This is my favorite course of them all and it’s all because of the professor I have. Mark Sample combines his lively lectures with good and clear notes with lots of humor on the side. The first day of class I was informed by the other students that have had him before that he has won statewide awards for his teaching. Students will actually sign up for his course if he is the teacher. Just the way he teachers really keeps your attention. Great teacher and great person

Mark Sample is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had in my college history. Not only is he funny but he makes everything he teaches so interesting. The best part of his classes are when he goes off on unrelated tangents. Even though they are unrelated you don't want him to stop! Take any class you can with him!!!

Had the pleasure of having Mr. Sample for Intersession. He's a great professor. He's very straight-up about what's expected, and he sticks to it. His teaching style is engaging and entertaining. His 'life lessons' are probably the best part of class. You'll learn more than just history with Mr. Sample.

He's an awesome teacher. I feel as though i'm the only on that laughs in the class, but he's a hilarious teacher. Writing Intensive kinda scared me at first, but it's not bad once you get used to it. He gives notes verbally which is so much better because it makes you pay attention rather than copying and not knowing what is written. Good Guy! :-)

A fantastic Professor Extraordinaire! He may be a Christian Repuplican, but unlike most profeesors , he presents all sides of issues fairly, instead of disseminating his own personal political agenda.Lots of writing, a great class!!!

He was by far one of the most alive professors I’ve had. He loves his job, and really makes history interesting. There was a lot of work-three books, articles, journals, quizzes, and tests, but worth it. He's one of the best at MCC, and this is my last semester! Ohh..he's a Republican, Buffalo Bills fan who hates movie theaters.

Writing intensive class so expect papers weekly and at least 3 major papers on books. If you dont like writing and doing a lot of work DO NOT take his classes. But if you do your in for a great time...really fun and interesting

Take all of Sample's classes if you can. He has a sarcastic sense of humor that he turns on you like a knife... but it's all in good fun. Just DO the work... three papers on books, three take-home essays, three fifty-question multiple-choice exams, weekly article summaries and reaction papers. Loves movies. Should be a no-brainer for tenure.

he is really a funny teacher and has a lot of jokes to tell. but if you don't like writing i wouldn't take history 112 with him. All of his assignments and tests were essays or short answer questions. there was a fair amount of work but his lectures were fun and well worth my time.

Sample by far has been my best professor ever. I have never looked forward to class then when i take his. I have taken 2, there is homework, but he challanges you, makes you work for your grade so you know you earned it. He is freaking awesome

Only believe the good things you read or hear about Sample. Down to earth, fair, funny, and knowledgeable. Lots of work, but do it all. Fair grader, insightful. I check his course listings first to see what he's teaching that I can take. he's awesome.

this guy is a very good professor to have first thing the morning. took WWII and History since 1865, fav prof at MCC. You do not have to be a history major to love him. Will sometmes go off topic about random things, that might pist you off, gives you chance to write about it in weekly journals, but still a very good teacher. Received an A both times around

Sample is a working class hero. If you can tolerate or ignore a little "bully pulpit" than you'll do fine. I took his writing intensive course and at times it is extreme. Sample is very routine though and you'll always know what to expect. Simple enough.. show up, do the work, get the grade.

He is strict with his policies however the material isnt hard to grasp. I dread history courses but he made it completely interesting; TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!

This teacher is one of the greats. His teaching is the kind of greatness you can't compare to one another, like Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. He is entertaining, not afraid to be a little politically incorrect, and doesn't screw around. Also the class is Writing Intensive - expect that.

This was one of the best professors i have ever had. he was an awesome person who actually made history fun. i loved that he told you the strait up truth even if it is against what many thought. he also jokes a lot and is crazy about TR! he also loves to make his famous Bill Clinton impression. I never really liked history, but I had to take a few US History courses over the summer. Professor Sample definitely got me interested in the material. He's a very fair teacher, has a great sense of humor, and always keeps things interesting and moving along. I took two courses, and both books were great (Farewell To Manzanar, and Denmark Vesey).

I took 3 classes with him. HIS 111, 112, and 260. Really good teacher. Tells jokes and tries to keep students interested. He assigns 4 books that you have to read and write papers on. They're usually boring and hard to get through but he's a pretty easy grader and gives outlines. definaltey recommended!

I took the intersession class with him. he is a great professors, tells funny stories and makes history interesting. I liked our textbook Denmark Vesey. Shows good movies. You have to go to class and work hard but still take US history with him

I took HIS 3 classes with him. One of the best teachers i've ever had. He makes the class fun and is always joking around. lecture style class 1 test every week, 4 book reports (gives you helpful outlines), midterm and final. I hate history and loved this class! Sample is soo funny and he's a truely great teacher. He makes the material easy to remember. He wants his students to do well, there are bonus questions on the quizzes that will raise the grade 9 points and he gives 2 points on your average for going to see one of his movies. Before this class I hated history, I now find it interesting. He goes off on rants, often interesting but unnecessary. He seems to think a little too much about himself. If you like history and certainly if you hate it you SHOULD take the class with him. I've learned a lot.

Very good teacher! I took this over the summer and it was very easy. Quiz everday straight from notes, 1 book report assignment, 2 tests, and summaries due everyday. He is very funny and kept my attention for the entire 4 hours. You also always know about what your grade is in the class at all times.

Sample is a great prof. He loves to tease students espically if they have had him before. He expects you to do the work. But he's a great professor to have! I am happy to have for two semesters.

He is a good professor and love what he does. This is obvious. He's a bit to egocentric for my taste. If you do have him be prepared to write, write write write, read, read, read, read, and then write and read some more. To be able to deal with him you just have to tune him out sometimes.

Took Winter Intersession. HARDEST THING I EVER DID AND LOVED EVERY SINGLE MINUTE! He is a gifted teacher. You will work hard and love every second. DO THE HOMEWORK/DO THE READING. He will get you to LOVE the subject and want to know more - TAKE THIS CLASS. I will return to take his remaining courses even after I graduate -yes, he is that good.

He is my favorite teacher ever. I am a history major and he really kept the class entertaining. There work is pretty balanced and he changes his books every semester. Seriously the best class and I miss it.

Sure, he's passionate about what he teaches, but he expects way too much out of his students; especially for a 100 level course (two 8 pg. papers, a weekly 1 pg. journal, a weekly quiz, and two essay based tests). He grades everything with a letter (not a number), doesn't use angel, and doesn't post final grades before the deadline. 2 thumbs down.

One of my favorite professors of all time and I only had him for about two weeks in an inter-session class. An outstanding sense of humor; he was unbiased and never forced his opinions on anyone; very clear and organized. He does make you work for your grade, which I believe is a plus. Also, he is a huge movie-lover.

Best Professor at MCC, no doubt about it! He teases everyone and is very very funny! He knows how to teach to any type of student. He shows videos and explains the notes quite well. It is a writing intensive course, but most of the work is easy. The only hard parts are the 5-page book papers which are easy, as long as you read the books!

Holly cow... This guy has to be the funniest teacher I've ever had in my entire life. He rants alot, but it keeps you awake. He also supplements his notes with videos and slideshows. AWESOME. Make sure you write down every date and name of an event and youll get an A. He also doesn't really attack gramatical errors in your papers.

I took his writing intensive history 111 class and its really not bad at all. Two longer papers are due and then short little essays are due here and there. But he is the best teacher I have ever had at MCC. He makes the class so much fun and interseting by making jokes and just being funny all the time!!

I took his writing intensive class and i am a queen bee at procrastination and i found it a great class because the assignments were not hard. i recommend him for any class he is teaching!! Hilarious, funny guy! I hated history until I took this class. He made it fun, and easy to pay attention to. The class isn't hard as long as you write the 2 book papers (8 pages each). One quiz a week, usually grade boosters and pretty easy. Awesome guy, easy class. Don't skip class!! I'd take another course with him no doubt

The only upsetting thing about taking his class was that it was my last semester at MCC and I couldn't take another one of his classes! Ask him to read emails from one of his old students, I died laughing!!! I'm still laughing a year later. He's passionate about movies and when he lectures it's like he's trying out for a play, very interesting!

I honestly love Sample. He can get a little off course, but his lectures are quick and simple. His quizzes are really easy, espcially if you've taken notes. We had to do article summaries (2 pgs total) and journal entries (1 pg total), and they honestly weren't too bad. Just pay attention, come to class and you'll do well.

Took HIS 112 over intersession with Sample. Loved it! Even though it was a lot of work in a two week time frame his lectures were very engaging. He tells great stories to go along with the history. He is very straight forward with his expectations. I will be taking his HIS 111 class in the fall. Highly recommend him!

Very good teacher and allows each student to attend his extra credit movies on monday nights (10 available per semester) go to max of 2 and get 2 points on final grade! hes worth it! sign up for HIS112 its way easier than HIS111 and more interesting!

He is an amazing teacher! Absolutely loved him. He knows his stuff and he's not afraid to pick on his students. His lectures are interesting and fun. He makes you want go to class. There is a lot of work though so be prepared.

Amazing professor. A lot of work, but it's worth it

I took his night class so it was impossible to miss one class or you'd miss too much, the quizzes were hard sometimes but the Mindtap was impossibly hard and didn't really follow with what we were actually doing during lecture. But Sample is absolutely hilarious and I wish I could take him again, great lectures and a great professor.

I took it as a summer class, It was really tricky and you cant wait until the last minute to do your assignments. If you have a question he gets back to you very soon. I emailed him asking him something and he called me to explain it to me. He was very helpful, but read the grading criteria.

Over summer course. His stories are amazing and makes history really enjoyable. The tests can be tough, but its all in your notes you just need to study. He does like to joke around with students a lot. Take lots of notes.

Hands down one of, if not the best professor at MCC. He makes class enjoyable and the topics relatable. Don't mistake his humor for an easy A, you will have to work for it, be on time and turn your work in and study and you'll do fine. He makes you want to learn and understand history. Guy had a tough semester because of family reasons. Didn't show to class four times, but if you didn't show more than once you were withdrawn. He cannot remember people's names very well and spent a lot of time talking about movies. He is really funny, and gives a lot of homework. Be ready to write a lot whether it is a writing intensive or not.

Prof Sample is a hilarious dude and makes all of his lectures engaging and interesting. He tells a lot of off-topic stories which make a pretty good break from learning in class but always gets right back on track. He grades very easily as long as you know what you're talking about. There's a lot of online homework and in-person quizzes, though.

Sample is a great professor! his classes are mandatory but you will enjoy being in them. at the beginning it will sound like there's a lot of work but if you manage your time and do not procrastinate its not bad at all. By far one of the best professors i have had and am taking him again next semester just because i like his class.

If you attend his lectures (which make you feel like you were right there in the historical events), you should have no problem passing his quizzes and exams.

Professor Sample is without a doubt the best prof at MCC. He makes you feel like you were really there when he tells stories. He is hilarious and an incredible person -- he said his daughter died this year, and I give him credit for still coming to work. He is an inspirational person and I was honored to be his student.

He uses other methods of teaching than normal. Lecture in class is awesome and memorable, but is quizzed every Friday. If you go to class the quizzes are very easy. There is alot of work, but there are only 2 tests and you get a head start. Never got an A in a class until this class (after 2 majors changes and 4 years at MCC)

Professor Sample was probably the best US History teacher I have ever had in terms of lectures. He makes information easy to understand and makes it very enjoyable by making jokes and playfully picking on students. The only thing that is difficult is the amount of online work he gives so be prepared to do about 2-4 hours of online work a week.

Professor Sample is without a doubt one of the best History professor's I've ever had. He rarely uses PowerPoints and he lets you know what information needs to be written down and what doesn't. There is a test usually every Friday along with a Journal Entry but as long as you study the notes he gives you, you'll be good.

I have taken three classes with Professor Sample at my time at MCC. His lectures are very interesting and always capture your attention, he also loves to tell jokes. I took this class because I love history. Hes amazing, he will make very funny jokes and his lectures are very interesting. He mixes humor and history to make the class fun. Id take a class with him anytime. You have homework due Friday and Sunday every week, and a quiz every Friday. Attending is needed.

Mark Sample is the greatest professor of my life regardless of school or college. His lectures are hilarious and impactful. You will want to show up to every class because he is great! Best Professor i have ever taken a class with!

He tough but he is hilarious, he gives you enough easy assignments to balance the hard. I took a summer class with him so it was a little more pressure.

Great Professor. I took an 8am with him and was worried I would be falling asleep. His humor woke me up right away and his way of telling history as a story and connecting it to interesting facts, movies, or books was very helpful. There were a lot of assignments over the course of the semester but they all were helpful in maintaining a good grade.

Professor Sample has No filter but that is part of what makes him funny. Gives life lessons and gives an extra credit with no essays. I would reccomend

I'm not the type of person who loves history but this class was extremely enjoyable for me. He gives out a fair amount of work, mindtap was easy as well as quizzes and journals. Some extra credit opportunities. He keeps an eye on attendance but with him, you don't want to miss class. He gives life lessons and fun stories. Highly recommend

Sample is the best profosser, all you have to do is go class and homework,2 page essays,Quiz,extra: go movies of history which i could never go because is at 6:00pm and i have 6 kids and work , but if you can make go, extra credit is the best. i did not pass is classs because I had a lot going on in my life. Im usually not a big history person but Professor Sample made it enjoyable and fun. His lectures arent the typically power points, he used 1 the rest was just listening and writing down notes, he also didnt just teach history he gave great life lessons and open your eyes to many things.

Sample is by far one of my favorite professors, great teaching style. He tells you exactly what he expects out of you on the first day. Don't use your phone in class and you'll get along great. There is 2 weekly homework assignments, a weekly quiz and 2 essay question exams but he lets you know way ahead of time. You wont regret taking his class

I am an international student and didn't like American history but when I took history with Sample, it was so nice and smooth! He know exactly how to teach and you can see that he loves his job. Homework every week tho but it is the way he helps you to increase you grade. I would love to take more history classes with him.

Also, weekly journals on YOUR perspective helps you relate to content both making interesting and locking info in. Tells what to put in notes so straight forwards and clean.

Mark Sample is an amazing teacher! He really loves to joke around and make the content easier to understand. He puts it into real terms. He enjoys picking on those who dont put in effort or pay attention, but does care about the well being of the class. It is an easy class if you just show up and do the work.

Absolutely phenomenal professor. Excellent sense of humour. Very good grasp of US History. Engaging (and funny) lectures. Not for everybody but he's the best professor I've ever had. The only reason I'd say not to take a class with him is if you don't have a dark (and irreverent) sense of humour. He is a fair grader and gave extra-credit often.

Sample is overall great! The work is a lot though. You can't pass if you don't study and you wont pass if you don't show up. His grading is clear and there are no surprises. Do what is asked of you and get an A.

Relies on online textbook quizzes/MindTap for most of your grade. Tests are easy if you take good notes, but there's a lot of information given in lecture. Sample is funny though, and pokes fun at himself and some of the students in class. Spends most of HIS111 on the American Revolution.

Professor Sample COS was the easiest class, it is harder to fail then pass. DO the weekly journals takes 5-10 minutes and GO to class!!!!!! He has a lot of speakers come in and if you are absent you get graded with a 0 for that day. Simple and easy class. Just go he cracks jokes and always starts class off with some music.

Hes a very respectful and understanding professor. If there is ever a problem he has no problem trying his best to fix it.

His course syllabus is right on the money and you always know what to expect. I would definitely recommend his class. I put my work in and my grade showed it. I thought I did not like history but Professor Sample made me love it. He is a passionate teacher and a great storyteller, making even the most boring topics interesting and engaging. Professor Sample is absolutely amazing, he worked with me when I was having life issues. He makes class fun and gives very clear directions. If you keep skipping class he will drop you, every week there is a quiz based off notes (easy), test based off test book (easy) and a journal entry (easy). Will be taking his classes as much as possible! EasyA

I love Sample as a teacher. You will get weekly movie questions form him witch i found engaging. As for the class it is very structured. You will be doing the same thing every week. There is quite a bit of work however if you do it chances are you will pass the class.

I absolutely detested everything about history before I took Professor Sample's class. It helps that he was clear and concise about what he wanted you to retain. Exams and quizzes were exactly what he said they would be. But his character was the selling factor. Truly, an all around stellar guy. Show up, plan your time, and you'll do great!

Every week there will be a mindtap assignment, a journal, a textbook quiz, and a lecture quiz and there will be two exams one mid-semester and one during finals week. This was my second course I took with Sample and can easily say he is my favorite professor. Yes, he does give a lot of work, but if you show up to class/lectures you'll do fine. Was never into/good at history until I took his classes - he is able to make learning fun and easy. Only thing is that the textbook readings are long.

doesn't actually start lecturing until the 3rd week of classes. Mixture of online and in person work. usually tests every week. The tests he hands out are very easy, no more then 2 hours of studying is needed for his weekly tests. also his tests have like 3 bonus questions that are also very easy and helped carry my grade.

I decided to take Professor Sampal's class out of to challenge myself. He is a fantastic professor who gets you interested in his lectures. There is an in-person quiz once a week, and it's in his lectures, so take notes and study. He also has online work, readings, and one online quiz. He also gives out extra credits to his movie nights if you go.

This man is what every teacher should strive to be. The complete package, I wish I had him for all my classes. A teacher that makes you put in the work, you learn from lectures, it does not feel like a waste of time and is fun. It is an academics dream. And a movie buff, go get that extra credit by seeing two movies he hosts.

Professor Sample's HIS112 class was surprisingly engaging. While there's a decent workload, his lectures and structured format make the material digestible. Using tools like unstuckstudy ai helped me stay on top of the readings. Overall, a challenging but rewarding course.

what you want in a history professor. a lot of homework for a 100 class, but read/take notes on the textbook and you'll be fine. very funny, love his movie references. very good class overall. :)

This class is pretty straight forward, do your work, follow directions, and you will pass. TONS of reading and writing. Two page summary, one page journal, 20 question quiz, chapter reading, article reading, and anywhere from 4-11 MindTaps (Also reading heavy) a week. There are 4 discussions sprinkled in. Materials are easy, but a lot of work.

For a 100 level class there is A LOT of work! The work wasn't necessarily hard, just cumbersome. Had more writing and reading than my honors 200 level English class. However, you can tell he is passionate about the subject, which made learning the material more fun. Always responded to emails quickly, gives VERY clear instructions and expectations

The best way I can describe Professor Sample is Gordon Ramsay esque. Meet his expectations and you'll be in his good graces. He's passionate about his job, makes tons of jokes, and often goes off topic in entertaining ways. His standards can be High but fair, and you'll learn a lot if you put in the effort. and also never expect a canceled class.
