This guy is definitely a character. He comes to class dressed in a kilt one day and a bowler hat the next. But he's a cool guy and his class isn't hard. Just don't dare take your cell phone out, not even to check the time, he WILL kick you out immediately.
He actually stepped in to replace orig instructor and was WAY more engaging and interesting! I would much rather take a class from Mark Sanders!
I love anthropology, but he makes me not like it. He has a bad temper and makes his student feel like ****. He is great when he is in a good moon, which isn't often. Made me feel worthless when approached him during offices hours. Take Eisentraut, his hawt girlfriend. She is way cooler.
Very nice, liked the class even though it was not what I was originally interested in. Loved the lectures, not a very hard class overall.
I have taken Mark's Anth 113 and 109 now, next semester I intend to take his history class. Over all he makes a very enjoyable environment in the class room. Exceptionally knowledgeable and somewhat late to class every day though.
I'm an Anthro major, but he made me want to never study it again. He keep changing test dates. He assigned papers only a week before they were due. He doesn't allow people to email him. He doesn't go over the material and expects you to know sophisticated archaeology jargon. He also gives students unpleasant looks and holds favorites.
I was better off not taking this class. He cancelled class around 4 times, never gave me any of my work back to see how I was doing, did not seem like he even WANTED to help me learn..etc. I taught myself everything from the book and even that wasn't enough. I still to this day do not have up to half of my material back. Take someone else.
Took this class to fulfill a history requirement. He is very unclear about wants he wants, and expects you to follow the syllabus event hough he never does. He rarely grades work and gives it back. At the end of the semester i still didnt know what i go on my midterm. Not my favorite class
This class was extremely boring and the way he taught it was very confusing. He did not follow the syllabus and made it unclear if there were homework. It took forever for him to give back graded stuff and you never knew where you stood in the class. I did not get my midterm until the day of the final. He did not make it interesting or fun.
Sanders is a seriously hard teacher. Not just on the material, but on behavior. He forbids laptops in class and refuses to allow anyone to contact him via email. This makes life very hard on us disabled students. He is generally, incredibly tough to live with but he does have moments of good humor which almost make his class worth it. Almost.
He is a very mean guy and does not teach well! He is a hard grader and doesn't give assignments back for a VERY long time! He will never let u even look at the time on your cell phone without kicking you out. He uses horribly made power points to teach so its hard to keep up. Overall, he sucks and he's not a good teacher if u want an easy A.
Professor Sanders is difficult (in a good way!) but an excellent professor. He's fun and quirky, and has a great sense of humor. Getting an A is very possible, but it's not easy. Do your homework, ATTEND, pay attention to and participate in class. Yes, he'll kick you out if you use your phone, even for time, but your phone disrupts everyone else!
Took this class as a requirement.Show up to all classes,do all the work and its an easy A.Not sure id recommend for anth majors but I would if its a requirement.Late with work back, and the midterms are kinda stupid, and I never once used the book, but the midterms and final were on a curve and the clases were interesting.Watch quite alot of films etc
Sanders is An Awesome teacher if you keep up on the reading.
He can be a real pain, but he knows what he is talking about and loves anthropology. He assumes everyone knows what he's talking about and becomes frustrated when students don't understand. He does this funny thing where he stops in the middle of a sentence and expects someone to finish it, but there is never a clear cut answer. He is hot though.
Mark Sanders is a God amongst men, and the man to ask about God. The best professor I've ever had, with impeccable style to boot. If you value your life, take this class. I have nothing bad to say about this man. He even asks people to take their hats off when they enter the room. What a boss.
Class about if vikings could beat up samurai in fight. Okay, its more than that, but the point is if your not having fun there's probably something wrong with you. Sanders is chill and a good teacher. He rewards hard work but sometimes is cranky. Read, go to office hours and do some extra outside reading for the course. Its worth it. A+ teacher.
He is very unclear with what he wants you to do for his assignments and when they are due. If you are not truly interested interested in Archaeology do not take this class, I wasn't and I ended up hating it.
I wasn't interested in archaeology when I signed up and I'm still not interested in it now; take it only if you love the subject. Do the reading, it helps ALOT w/exams. Attend class because participation points come from in class assignments. There were 10 weekly reading quizzes on moodle but he only posted 7...very easy points. DONT USE PHONE.
This class was so hard. You have to keep up with the reading every week. He basically lectures what you read so if you don't understand his lectures you can just read the text. His quizzes were easy if you read the text and take notes in class. But I have to say the midterm was extremely hard. He expects you to know everything and doesn't help you.
I believe this is a bad source for judging a teacher. the 1st question asked was how easy is the teacher. You are in college to work hard and EARN your degree. Not to have it handed to you. Sanders is one of the best teachers I have had. No, his class wasn't "easy" but he's a fair grader, effective communicator and organized in his teaching method.
Not a clear instructor at all and is a huge jerk.
Mr Sanders is passionate and very knowledgeable about the material in this class. He is energetic, speaks well and clearly and makes it stimulating to be in the class. I found the syllabus' listed course of material sort of ambiguous, and the quiz material began where and ended where in the books? Great teacher. Loved it.
Mark Sanders has a lot of potential to be a great teacher, it's obvious he knows his stuff. However, he's so incredibly unclear about when things are due, when midterms are etc. He extremely unapproachable and makes you feel very stupid when you have honest questions if he doesn't feel like answering them. He is rude, usually late and not friendly.
The class material is very interesting and Mr Sanders explains all well. Since he doesn't use study guides and everything is fair game, it wasn't clear what we should study for quizzes, tests, etc. Other people did well though. If you test well and remember many things introduced at once, then it'll be fine for you.
This class was ridiculous. Way too much information to absorb in such a short period of time, not a helpful teacher whatsoever, and incredibly unclear. He's kind of an ass and shows little to no regard for students that are lost. Don't even go to class, he goes on tangents that are useless. BOO!
unclear, rude, all over the map, test BEFORE chapter review and PowerPoint, lots of material to cover without help.office hours are great if you don't get there to late.I've waited many time with no luck.emails are useless,he's always rushing in and out of class. Very smart but not very helpful.lots of reading.interesting stuff but he doesn't connect
Not a very good teacher. He is very confusing during lectures and does not follow the syllabus. He is kind of mean and doesn't seem to care much about his students. He uses a lot of big confusing words that through you off. The only way to do good in this class is to read every single chapter in the text. If you take him, GOOD LUCK!
The material covered was very interesting, but Sanders way of teaching made it more difficult then it really was. Overall i don't think he's too harsh with grading, and if you think you'll be able to stand him show off his vocabulary from time to time and all the boring things he's into take the class.
There are no study guides for the tests, so it can get quite confusing as to what you are supposed to study for. This class is extremely interesting and as long as you pay attention, you should do fine. The two papers were not that hard either. He is funny and sarcastic and really smart. Just do not have your phone out or he will ask you to leave.
First off let me tell you that Professor Sanders is very smart in terms of knowledge. In terms of teachings, not so much. He lectures like he is showing off what he knows, not like he wants you to learn. He is pretentious and rude, using terms only a select few would know. He does not care about his students. But his class isn't too hard. Easy B.
I really enjoyed this class, Mark was funny and very smart. I would take it again. He made the subject very interesting, and I enjoyed his lectures. A few of the documentaries he shows will put you to sleep, but the rest are great. LOTS of extra credit opportunities galore. Don't miss out on that. Attendance and participation is important.
Please do not take this class! Unless you need it more than oxygen itself! I purposely read the text to make sure I could answer his questions in class, and some of what he saids comes straight out of lala land.
NO ONE TAKE THIS CLASS! I DO NOT KNOW WHY HE HAS NOT BEEN FIRED YET!
Full of himself, talks down to his students, lectures are him flaunting his knowledge, showing off what big words he knows. No study guides or any help knowing what to expect on tests. Gives lectures on content AFTER you're tested on it. Irritable. Makes you feel stupid if you don't understand something. Don't take this guy. Please.
Professor Sanders gives engaging lectures, and knows a lot about the subject. However, he drove me CRAZY be rescheduling tests constantly and even assigning a paper not on the syllabus (which he never graded). He also doesn't put in much effort grading papers, so if you want good feedback you're SOL (he is an easy grader though).
Unlike a lot of others on here, I really enjoyed Professor Sanders' class. He is a great lecturer and very versed on the subject he teaches. He can be a little rude to some of his students, but I find it was when they were acting close-minded. There are online quizzes and the answers in the book are easy to find. The tests are really easy.
This teacher is exactly what you don't want for a teacher. He only cares about showing up and getting a pay check. He gives no help on tests and clearly does not want to go out of his way for any of his students. I had to miss a class an told him a week in advance and if he could let me know what was going on his the class, his response was just no

He is a great teacher! He is rude and full of himself but his lectures are interesting. never talk or do basically anything in his class but write because he'll call you out. His test are SUPER easy. He never grades papers nor gives homework.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! The worst professor at SBCC I've ever had! He was extremely rude, was not willing to help students. Would get annoyed if I asked him to clarify an assignment and his grading was not fair! He even had another student who was on our class that he knew outside of class grade our presentations!! Avoid at all cost!
At first it seems like "information overload" with names and periods, but it slowly starts to piece together as you read the chapters and watch the movies. He makes sure the class is well prepared for the 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final (all scantron). He makes witty jokes that come off as cocky or rude if you aren't smart enough to understand them.
He does not care about helping his students AT ALL. He will assign huge essays just for fun and then never grade them. A big waste of time. Worst professor I have ever had.
Sanders is good in that he is very passionate about the subject he teaches, however it seems like at times he doesn't realize that not everyone taking the class is nearly as well versed as he is in the subject- throwing out hundreds of namesplaces without saying which ones are relevant. Tests are also challenging even after studying a good amount.
I really don't understand why students feel the way they do about him. His lectures are wonderful, I am never bored! Maybe it's because I'm an Anthro major, but he really knows his stuff and makes witty jokes to lighten the mood. I think he is funny and smart! He demands respect, like all professors deserve. So just show up to class and act proper.
Lectures hardly ever relate to the book, spends a majority of class time off on confusing tangents. Never gets through the content before the test. . Tests and quizzes are super easy if you read the book and forget all his lectures. Cares very little about his students. VERY rude. Clearly smart but a terrible teacher. Avoid this class if you can.
I don't understand why so many people have negative things to say about Mr. Sanders. Yes, he is very "strict" for lack of a better word but his class is very interesting. We do have to read a lot but his powerpoints help immensely. His lectures are very interesting and he is actually pretty funny sometimes. I would take any class with him.
I really like Prof Sanders. He definitely has a lot of opinions but as long as you share your own with them respect and intelligence he is willing to listen to everyone. The only thing is we go off topic a lot, but discussions are always interesting. Definitely need the book
He's obviously incredibly knowledgeable about history and is incredibly enthusiastic about the subject, but oftentimes would get distracted if a kid would go off topic, instead of steering the class back onto the current lesson. If you like History and are willing to put in the work of reading every week, you'll probably do fine.
by far the rudest, worst professor I have ever had. Comes to class late everyday, does not care about his students whatsoever, does not show up to his office hours and does not reply to his emails. All my classmates were lost in this course and failing the class because he is unreachable. Also, very unfair grader with papers and presentations.
Professor Sanders is a great guy outside of class, but not so much as a teacher. He is very vague on directions for papers and presentations and goes off on way too many tangents that you might as well have just stayed home. Your textbook is your best friend in this class and make sure you pay attention to EVERYTHING he says and you'll be fine.
Very caring and chill kinda guy. I can tell him anything for class or personally. He's helped me figure out what classes I should take and help me get into Brigham Young University. And he's really hot!!
He's very attractive, well-versed, he loves what he teaches. The quizzes/exams are easy. But you only learn the material from the book, otherwise it's just him going off a tangent , relevant or not. You can show up 5 times to this class and pass. He can also be really rude, justly and unjustly so. He glares if you even cough. So, you decide.
Prof. Sanders is a great guy, but not really much of a teacher. We barely even talk about what we're supposed to be learning because he loves talking abut everything else. Don't expect to be very educated after the class, but it's a lot of fun. Lots of extra credit opportunities, don't worry about showing up to class every time.
Honestly, Sanders took a bit of getting used to in the beginning but once you understand how he works as a professor, you'll get the hang of his class. You'll definitely need to read the textbooks because he sometimes goes off on tangents but he makes the overall concepts pretty simple to understand.
Prof sanders makes me hate learning. He is by far the WORST professor I have ever taken. He is very condescending so makes you feel dumb, its harder to approach him, and overall cant stand his lectures. Theres a lot of homework and in class discussions. If youre not on his good side hell definitely call you out in class and yell at you!
If you read the textbook and take notes during the videos, you'll be fine. TIP: the exams are open notes, so it may be to your advantage to take book notes.
He is not a chill dude by any means. He literally does his own thing and is super rude towards students who want to do well in his class. You watch videos every class that you learn nothing from and he won't actually grade on verbal participation. Every time I emailed him about something, he would ignore it. Hated this class. Unorganized also.
I honestly don't know where to start, Mark Sanders is a very rude professor, and given this is my major, it hurts a lot. You try to raise your hand? He shuts you down. You want help? He says 'Read the syllabus', worst of all, he goes off on tangents that are no way related to class, and just wants to talk about himself. I would tread carefully.
You're basically on your own in this class. For the exams and paper, nothing he taught helped me. It was all stuff I learned just from reading the book. He's very rude when he thinks you ask too many questions. This guy really likes to hear himself talk because barely anyone could get a word in. The course title is intriguing, but be aware...
Mark Sanders is tough to come across, and if you want to get help, he makes you feel guilty for reaching out for help. He is quite arrogant in which he thinks he knows better. And I think a 2.7 rating says it all, I recommend taking someone else if you can. Worst of all, he goes off on tangents that are not related in class, which is frustrating.
Not really fun, goes off on tangents, and not really helpful when you want to participate.
Ive never been a fan of school ever but Professor Sanders changed that for me. He constantly keeps your attention with the most interesting and hilarious knowledge that you would have never found elsewhere. He is hands down the smartest individual Ive ever come across. Take advantage of his office hours too!!! Work hard and it pays off. Simple.
I took Prof. Sanders online Soc106 class and it was amazing! I felt he gave us a fair amount of time to complete the assignments. His assignments are clear and understandable if you read. 100% recommend. Cheers Mark!
Marks sociology 106 class was awesome! He gives you a good amount of time to complete assignments. If you read and study the slide shows before tests and quizzes youll get an A. Highly recommend!!
I struggled in the beginning and this teacher really had patience where I was able to take his course and pass it in 6 weeks summer course. I had a hard time understanding at first. His test are open book and not timed so it helped me.
If I could give him a negative number I would. He is hands down the worst professor I have ever taken, and I have taken over 100 credits of classes. He is a biased, disrespectful, narcissistic and down right abusive teacher. Was 20 min late to the midterm and promptly screamed at the whole class and tried to get them to tell who called the dean.
He was absent during the course and did not respond to emails. He allows students to submit a weekly "now I understand" paper to get extra credit for assignments and tests you messed up, but since he didn't grade anything until after the class ended, I could not do this. Several students said they reached out and he ghosted. TERRIBLE. AVOID.
Gives tricky assignments and quizzes. Need the book if you want to even attempt the class. Never responded to anyones emails and it is the last week of the semester and he has graded only the first weeks work. Not sure how a professor could be so MIA!
Not great for online class and doesn't update assignments from previous semesters. Confusing format and if you can take someone else do it
I was excited for this course but Prof Sanders is just so unorganized. Taking his online class it was very hard to navigate what was due and what was part of a past course. He definitely wanted to be "right" when confronted with course homework problems. I NEEDED my book and personal notes for the exams, would not have passed without open book...
If you need to take a Lab class do not take this class with Sanders. He is completely unprofessional, never responded to a single email all semester, and goes on long tangents that dont relate to the course. He didnt grade any material until final grades had to be in. Doesnt know how canvas works and kept half of the assignments locked. BAD
Do not take this, professor! It was the most unorganized college course I have ever taken. He would go on tangents for hours, leaving the course material uncovered. He was not clear with assignments. He would not welcome questions being asked, even though directions were unclear. Not a good environment for learning. Worst Professor I ever had.
He doesn't know how to use canvas so it is hard to know what is due and when. He also doesn't input grades until final grades are due so you never know how you are doing in the class. He goes on long tangents which makes the class run an hour longer than it should. The homework load is very easy but the class isn't enjoyable.
Professor seems excited to share the material! He is passionate about what he teaches, and helps the students that make it to class by giving insight into which areas are needed to focus on for exams. Attendance is super important as he delivers detail packed lectures, but you must be prepared to read the textbook chapters that are assigned.
Do not take this class. Unorganized, unclear and overall frustrating. Professor 'knows" a lot but rarely actually follows the book or powerpoint. He goes on long unrelated tangents about random things. Doesn't grade anything till the end, so it's easy to complete class on your own but you won't know if you're doing it right till the end.Worst class
Mark Sanders is one of the weirdest professors I've had, someone complained and he got pulled from our Sociology 101 class mid-semester and we got a new professor. He goes on and on about random things and doesn't even teach on the subject. Quizzes are random. Has a weird superiority complex too kinda annoying. Easy A but I do not recommend taking.
Professor Sanders is extremely knowledgeable on archeology and clearly has a lot of passion for it, his lectures can go off-topic but the exams are written around what he got to in class. Grades usually take a long time to come out. Beware the occasional in-class assignment that is unmentioned online.
Professor Sanders, is very engaging and knowledgeable about the course topics. He is hilarious and cares very deeply about his students and their educational success. He maintains regular office hours and is willing to work with his students, who struggle with challenges, as I do. I highly recommend Professor Sanders at SBCC.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! this is the worst class i have ever taken
This is quite literally the worst class I have every taken. His class makes me not want to go to UCLA cause he is the only teacher that offers this required course. He does not grade assignments, I have genuinely learned nothing in this class. He goes completely off topic for the whole entire class and has no respect for his students or their time.
he is the worst professor i have ever had. i am convinced he wrote all the positive reviews because there is no way that students actually like him or his class. he doesnt care about students' time and does not grade anything. i havent learned a single thing in this class.
This professor gives SBCC a bad name. He clearly hates teaching, hates his students (unless you are MENSA) and is super scattered in both lectures and instructions. I was really looking forward to this class because the subject is super interesting. He unfortunately made it a horrible environment and boring as hell. Would avoid any of his classes!
Whoever is giving the good reviews (cough...Professor Sanders?) is full of it, or the rare student this professor takes a shine to. I cannot say enough bad things about this professor. He hates his job and it is really obvious. If you want to keep your experience at SBCC as good as you can then avoid, avoid avoid this tool.
All of Professor Sanders' classes are a must-take if you have any interest in Anthropology or Archaeology. His lectures are incredibly engaging and energizing, he always has a well-read response to any question you may have, whether it pertains to the lecture or not. Not very tech savvy, but imo that's a fair trade for great in person lectures.
Prof. Sanders is an amazing professor with minor caveats. He is adept at incorporating examples into lectures, so if you're interested in the subject, you'll learn a lot more than what the text provides. He's more caring and patient than he lets on. However, his Canvas is disorganized, and he only grades assignments near the end of the semester.
Do not take a class with him. If the course is required, take it online at another CC. Not only are the lectures confusing and he is constantly going on tangents, he is verbally abusive and takes his own issues out on the class, and his assignments are randomly given out. Genuinely the worst professor I've had after 4 years of college classes.
He constantly makes micro-aggressions to his black students and he is very passive-aggressive and grades super hard. He is not good at explaining things and expects his students to understand off the bat.
If you are love challenging and difficult professors, if you are the teacher's pet and can kiss ass, if you love professors that drone off subject, if your entire life is about getting the A, this professor is for you! If on the other hand you want to keep your sanity and take classes with kind and approachable instructors, take a hard pass!
This professor is one of the most mind boggling people i've experienced. most of his lectures are disorganized and go off track. it's obvious he does NOT want to be around those who might know less than him let alone TEACH them. don't take him unless you can out-smartas$ him.
Hybrid Course: The course it self wasn't entirely difficult as there are no exams, you don't need to read the textbook & the quizzes are online. However, there are in class assignment's which you only get in class. As other reviews say, the professor is truly rude, arrogant, disorganized, & unhelpful. You won't learn much & basically on your own.
He's really not that bad of a professor. However, he does have a habit of getting off track. Due to this, you have to spend some time to teach yourself the information, which is simple as he has his lectures and textbook chapters on canvas. Despite him getting off track, I enjoyed the lectures as they always felt like a conversation
I thought the class was going to be cool, unfortunately due to his teaching style it just was not what I wanted out of this class. He'd often go on tangents that had nothing to do with class, most of the assignments had nothing to do with the lectures, and he grades attendance heavily. He seems nice at first but don't be misled.
He had his moments where he could be intimidating but he cares about his students. He's straightforward in our lab and pretty funny. One downside is he doesn't really post announcements or grades so you are unsure about your grade throughout the course. Labs were rarely ever 3 hours
Anth101 wasn't too bad, most of the grade relied on in classwork, he didn't mark me down for skipping class, but if you miss an inclass assignment it matters a lot. Didn't read a single page of the online textbook so it was light. Prof. Sanders is intense, kind of funny, and an interesting guy. personally i thought The lectures were pretty boring
