Very clear professor. All his lectures were interesting and helpful. His exams were not that hard, but if you studied what he says to study, you should at least get an A.
Tries to teach as little as possible, answers questions by saying, "You know the rest, you should know how to do it from before." You gotta know your stuff. Goes fast.
hes a great teacher. lectures are well organized. Goes over HW before you turn it in. very welcoming to his office hours. very helpful overall.
He does say, " and you know the rest" but about simple things you do know the rest of. If you don't, talk to him after class and he'll help you. Sounds a little like Don Knots. Good teacher, I highly recommend.
Does go through a lot of material so it is important to keep up. Overall gives clear lectures, tons of homework, but you should be prepared for tests. If you are a good student, you should get an A and at least a B. Not an easy class though, so study hard!
Sounds a bit like Barney 5(THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW),very easy class if you have some precalculus background, curves tests, about 10 homework problems per 2 days, very important not to miss a class, dont get behind..or else he will says "and you know the rest" about the stuff he already taught but you mi
He's a good teacher and is really good about helping you. Don't miss class or you'll be really behind after 1 day. Do the homework and take really good notes. Very helpful during office hours. Doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't know what is included in "and you know the rest".
the last part of the semester is definetly harder. He is always open to answer questions and help. A little difficult on grading but curves tests. Show up for class
Easy class to pass. I would really recomend him. He is helpful.
Very good teacher, he explains everything clearly. The class gets harder by the end of the semester, but if you show up to class everyday and do the h.w. you'll do fine. He curves the tests, which is good. The tests are ok, if you know and understand the material you'll do fine.
150A he taught really good, 250 was a little more confusing. He drills you with a lot of helpful examples.recommendable, no accent, but always tries to do one more problem with like 1 min left, damn

He really explains the materials very well. He shows lots of ethusiasm of the material. He helps you in any way he can.Homework really helps so if you are taking his class you should always do it. He curves tests. If you want a real good math professor you should take his class.
He is very helpful and his lectures are fine. There is a lot of homework, which is good to keep up with the dense material.
great teacher..explains everything clearly and makes sure you get it before moving on. nice guy, too.
His expectations are high. He will keep you on your toes. Lots of homework, but you will learn a lot.
He explains really well. There is a lot of homework. P.S. If you reinstal Minitab before it expires= 30 more days. This is not heavy duty math class, but there is a lot of concepts. I recommend him. He is very nice man.
He explains the material very well and clearly, and he's very helpful. Homework is a lot, but not overwhelming, and his tests and his grading is fair. One of the best math professors I have ever had.
Great teacher.. explains everything clearly. always willing to help, never moves on until everyone is caught up. just the right amount of homework.. enough for you to get the material. tests and grading are very fair. GREAT PROFESSOR!
I got a B+ and skipped the first midterm, although i may have been graded partly on the fact that i'm an undergrad. The FACT is, he's fair. You gotta work your butt off though--the whole semester.
Professor Schilling is very very knowledgable about stats. But he thinks at the Ph.D. level [at the Ph.D. from Berkeley level that is], and he expects mastery from his students. That might hurt your gpa.
Great teacher. Class is filled with interesting bits of information that relate to the subject. Tests are really fair, I'd even say he over prepares you for them. Highly Recommended.
If he's not the best math prof here, he's right up there.
Very good professor, tests are on the homework and homework is on what is taught in class. do the homework the day before it's due and he goes over the problems and you can see where you're making mistakes
The Best professor at CSUN period. Intelligent, competent, organized, reasonable, and understanding. His explanations are crystal clear and concise. Exams cover class material and grading is fair. All you have to do is pay attention during lectures, do homework, and study hard. He connects class material to real world in amazing ways.
Very good teacher. Does a great job explaining everything that will be needed in tests, and final. Overall had a great experience in class, and gives out extra points for going up on the board to do hw problems. Highly reccomended!
Great teacher for a hard class. Gives plenty of extra credit and curves generously. Highly recommended!
Grate professor for a hard subject. Professor is easy to understand, fair, and helpful. Class is well organized and lectures are important and relevant.
Superb teacher - possibly the best at CSUN. Willing to explain and goes the extra mile to help you understand. Class participation mandatory. And stay caught up on the homework or you'll get lost in a hurry! Doing extra homework will help your grade.
Very passionate about probability and statistics. Requires lots of work, especially HW. His explanation is crystal clear and quit interesting.
His teaching style is great. The structure of the class complements his style and forces you to master the material. This does not mean that you will do well in his class but you will come out knowing more than you would in any other professor's class. I would take him again; you should too but be prepared to work for your grade.
Professor Shilling is the best math professor I've ever had at csun. His class is hard overall, but if you ask him questions he'll answer you clearly. The tests are not that difficult, but you need to study. We had both online and book work. I disliked the online part, but trust me, it's extremely helpful when you get to the book work. Take him!
Outstanding professor, just do your work, pay attention and you will learn a lot. Hey is very passionate about the subject and will always be glad to help.
Overall he is a good professor. He gives a lot of examples in class and is very easy to understand.
professor schilling is probably the only stats teacher that people try to add to, but the class isnt that easy.you have to attend class inorder for you not to miss any lessons or else if you do youll be lost in the class. theres online reading which he checks if youve been doing and online quizez.the exams arent so easy so you have to study study
obviously, stats is hard. he is nice and funny. attendance is a must. homework due every other day. online assignments you have to keep up with. tests are a bit hard, so study! but he is a very very good professor!!!!! highly recommended.
Like everyone else had already said, the subject is not a walk in the park, but he is incredibly helpful and wants you to succeed.
The course is not easy but Schilling is extremely helpful and a good prof! Attendance is mandatory. HW is due every other day. Online reading is checked if done on time -- so keep up with it! Exams are hard if u don't study. If u do all the work on time and learn from it, u'll do fine. I did it and got an A- in the honors course. HIGHLY SUGGESTED!
Good professor. Lots of work to do. He's very helpful when you need it. It's a very difficult subject with any teacher. I suggest a study group to help you understand it better. Also, don't wait until the last minute to study. And, unless you want a pop quiz, TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONES!!!
Probably the best teacher you could ever get. He grades the tests very fairly, and will give you more than half credit even if you got the answer wrong just as long as he can tell that you understood what you were doing. Very understandable as a lecturer as well. Curves every test and the final grade. HIGHLY recommend. Funny too!
Prof. Mark Schilling is widdy intelligent and extremely helpful. He cares about every single one of his students. He assigns homework about 2-3 times a week on WileyPlus. No need to buy the text book since it comes with Wiley. He makes sure you understand the homework. His tests are based off of his homework. Wished he taught Calc 3! Love this guy!
Professor Schilling is a great professor. He really understands how students learn. The tests are graded as they should be, with partial credit given if concepts are understood. I recommend him! Tough class, great teacher.
Ahh... Prof. Schilling. This guy is HANDS DOWN the best professor at CSUN. He made Calc 2 look easy and had a fun time teaching it. He goes by the book, not that $200 Steward book, he uses the text from WileyPlus. He is very helpful and will help you understand every single concept. EXTREMELY RECCOMENDED, too bad he doesn't teach Calc 3 or diff eq.
The class is tough. Easy at first, but gets harder towards the end. But he's amazing at helping you understand. I took the class as a hybrid class, and all you have to do is READ the material, put effort in, and you'll be fine. He's completely fair in his exams, and extremely nice. He's a sweet man. RECOMMEND.
take his hybrid course if you can! best way to get through statistics is with this professor. make sure you do all the online work, keep up with the reading before class, and study before the tests and you'll be fine. ask questions even if you think they're irrelevant. he's funny & willing to help
Best professor in CSUN....
GREAT professor! Knows a lot and is very helpful. Best math/calculus professor I had
Terrific professor, Great at what he does and teaches extremely well.
He's a great professor for those who love math! and like to solve hard tricks!, he gave a lot of exams. he likes to make the subject hard but interesting! not recommending for those who want to get high grade!
Loves giving you questions on the test you've never seen before. and never goes over homework problems or any problems in detail, loves the phrase "its trivial from here" which is not the case with someone just learning Calculus
Best Math prof. Take him. All the homework are online and very easy. it will help you get a higher grade!!
Very understanding professor. He tries his best to help you understand the main points of calculus. He does skip some minor points that he expects you to know, so you have to speak up.Tests are hard but the class is curved, so studying is a must. HW is easy enough as there are multiple tries. Do all the homework, study hard and a B is for sure.
Knows a lot and expects you to know a lot too. You need to put in time to prepare for the tests which are usually difficult but nothing he hasn't covered.
Its trivial from here! Schilling is the best. lol
He has lot of info but don't know how to teach. His method to me is messy skip lots of step on solving problem.expect u to know the problem before teach. loves giving u problem u never seen before.has attendance policy, if u miss2 session u lose10%of overla grade. 3test each100 point and 1quiz 50 point. homework 200 point. +final
Great professor, made me love math again. Losing 10% for missing 2 classes is not true. He allows two absences with no penalty and after that 6 points are deducted from each absence. He relates the material to real life and he's a very cool guy. He's a great professor
VERY pleased with this professor. Definitely made me love math again. He knows exactly what he's doing and gives plenty of examples (if you need more, just ask. He's always more than willing to help.) Do the all the assigned work and study, you'll probably get an A.
hard grader.. he knows the material but he doesn't know how to explain it.. extremely difficult questions.. avoid at all cost
i agree with the most comments.. he loves to challenge students with his tricky questions
Work hard, do the homework and a B is for sure! With how hard is tests are, the final is a breeze. Remember, Remember CALCULUS is trivial!!! hhaha. Schilling rocks!
Very clear, explains very well, very polite and enjoys teaching. However, very harsh grader. Extremely frugal with giving extra credit even if you spent hours and derived a new formula! If you miss class, he takes it personal. Gives way too much homework (every session). Don't take his stat class unless you want to be a statistician.
Great professor. He goes over homework clearly, he does skip a lot of steps but its only algebra steps. Tests are difficult but it makes the final seem so much easier. Homework is a big part of the grade and if u never are absent he adds a couple points in for the final grade. Highly recommend taking him!
Great professor! Don't listen to the comments. He is fair and very helpful. His exams are fair. Make sure you do your homework and attend class! He will give you a study guide for each test, but do not depend on the study guide. If you have any concerns about the class he will email you right away. He is gold for the math department at CSUN.
My favorite math teacher. He's cares about you as along as you care about your own grade. Any questions can be answered during office hours. He does like to challenge students with his tests, but they are fair as long as you study. Class consisted of one quiz, three tests, hw, and common final. Unlike, other years the final was very hard.
Schilling is a great professor. He always goes in depth and does practically all the examples from the book. You are graded on your homework, random progress checks, tests, quizzes, notebook checks, and sometimes pop quizzes. He gives pop quizzes if someone's phone goes off during class, though he's usually pretty lenient the first few times.
Schilling is a really good teacher and overall good guy. He gives you all of the tools that you need to learn the material. Having said that, most of his exams were hard, and his final was by far the hardest. You definitely have to work hard to pass this class, let alone with a good grade. Overall, if you're a stats major, I do recommend him.
Took him for 150A, decided to take him for 150B. He's alright. Not always clear but will be straightforward if you ask. Homework is graded, show your work. Big on partial credit. Very fair.
Class was difficult for me because his teachings were not very clear. He posts the notes and homework online for you to print, but the notes aren't clear. So meet with him if you must. I suggest meeting with the MATH 310 tutors and stats tutors bcus they know this subject very well. Drops lowest quiz. Homework can be difficult. Wouldn't take again.
If you want to know anything about stats, take him! Never thought I would like stats until He referenced the useful applications in sports, now I'm looking into sports statistics. Lectures are amazing, and the hw is actually really fun. I still dislike labs though
Expect homework and quizzes every week. Homework and notes must be printed from moodle. There are no tutors for this class since this course was created in 2014 I believe. I would rather take another professor besides him. But he is a decent professor. I cannot fully understand math so I got a D. He lets you use your notes for the final for 30 min.
This is my third time taking Professor Schilling. Schilling is such an encouraging professor, that cares about the success of his students. He is gold for the Math Department at CSUN. Math 440A is not an easy class, so you must put in time for this class.
Great professor. Some lectures are not clear. he will explain more of the lectures during his office hours. Takes attendance every day.
In my last semester as an undergraduate, I gotta say that out of all my professors I've ever had, I respect and admire Schilling the most. He has motivated me to become a better student and to pursue goals that I did not think I could achieve. He never makes you feel like you're not intelligent enough to succeed as a mathematician, very unbiased
Being my 2nd time taking Calc 2, Professor Schilling made the subject much more interesting and clear. His grading is very fair and he offers bonus points for stating clever facts or catching mistakes in class. Prof. Schilling is by far the best teacher I've had and I hope I have the opportunity to have another class with him. Highly recommended!!!
Provides help for homework and test preparation a lot. I would really recommend him for anyone taking MATH 150B.
The worst teacher. doesn't explain. poor detailing. avoid at all costs
He is amazing! He explains very well and is happy to answer your questions. Online homework and exams are not difficult. Just study. There's extra credit one question quizzes every class which I find easy points. he also gives out bonus points sometimes for answering questions. TAKE HIM!! Wish his calc 2 class didnt close so fast :(
Take him if and only if you already know Stat, if not avoid him. Tests are supppper heavy and even with a curve still more than half of class failed. Lotssss of homework which tests are not even related to homework.
Take him if you don't have a life because his class will take your life away. Meaning that if you want to have a chance to pass his class, you have to say bye to everything for a semester. Still not guaranty that you will pass his class
I regained my confidence in my mathematical abilities because of his class. I was in a rough spot at the beginning, but he was kind and patient enough to guide me back on track. His passion for the subject is as clear as day, and is quite contagious! But you need to know that college-level math requires diligence and maturity on your part as well.
You have to work hard in his class. He is willing to help and push you a lot. I had F for the first two exams but I was able to raise my grade to C- for the last two exams. I still have to retake this class but I learned a lot about my capabilities because of him.
His lecture is so dried. He detailed a lot of formulas and theorems applying to 2-4 examples from the textbook. Admittedly, I failed two exams that got an F. I asked him to improve his performance to give more examples. He said, " well, this is math 300 level, not 101 level." But I got an C, i will retake that course with different professor.
Considering the nature of the class he is a great professor. You can't mindlessly memorize examples and throw them up on exams and pass. You have to know what all those formulas mean. I learned that the hard way. If youre willing to put the work in it he'll wholeheartedly help you out a lot. He actually wants you to pass, he's that caring.
Don't take this guy. I had to graduate from another university with a degree in mathematics because of schilling. Almost 40 years later. What i am stating is fact. He is racist. I am a Latin. I passed the first test with a c and wanted to get an incomplete. He did not allow me to get an incomplete.
he knows what he's talking about and will clarify really well if you ask a question in-class or after. if you do the homework and the practice tests (there isn't that much, max 10-20 problems 2x/wk) the tests make sense, and he gives a lot of partial credit. I'll take him for whatever math I can in the future
