This review is for the PC security basics class. I found the class to be very interesting, easy to follow and overall very enjoyable. The Professor does a great job at taking the time to explain things for people not familiar with the subject. Wish all my teachers were this interesting.

Best teacher I've had at De Anza. The class is pretty easy, but you do learn a lot about PC security. He's pretty helpful and encouraging.

Apparently, Excel II is considered an "advance" class and therefore did not offer the same tutorial guides as Excel I. As long as you have the required book, this class is still very easy. Word of advice, it is self paced, avoid waiting the last month to do it all. You'll be stressed with finals and have to compete for help. A+ to the CAOS staff.

Lectures are easy. Details on the PPTs are sometimes very small and unable to read. Quizzes are a bit hard. Quizzes would be easier if there is a text book. For beginners like me, a text book would be handy especially during quizzes. Otherwise, everything else is ok. The video lectures are clear, slow, and easy to understand.

This was a very good class. The instructor was very clear and informative with his lectures and articles. I learned a lot in this class and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn the basics of internet security.

His teaching style and online video lectures are easier to understand than a lot of on-campus teachers I've had. If needed, powerpoint presentations are provided and act like the "textbook" material that's needed for the class.

I came to the class with a laymans knowledge of computer security. I was able to understand the material with little problem. My one problem area is with the video lectures. I am someone who tends to nod off after looking at a video lecture for too long. Otherwise the class was helpful and informative.

I think its a class everyone should take, extremely interesting subject, very easy assignments.. all it is, is weekly easy hw assignments, watch the 60min video lecture, and take 3 midterms that arent that hard. This is my first online class and it has been great.He explains very clear and has excellent knowledge and you can learn a lot on his class. The assignments are very easy. Thought this class would go in depth on hardware, networks, the nitty gritty and behind the scenes of operating systems, but it ended up being focused entirely on being able to work with different applications like Word, Excel, Chrome, etc. If you're looking for a simple intro to computers, this is a great class. Not for CS majors, too basic.

This class is very broad. You will learn many different security methods, but the class never goes deep into any subject. The labs are kinda boring. You can get an A by doing all the quizzes. Easy A. Not very interesting class.

I really enjoyed this class. Mark always came to class with a detailed lecture on how to do our lab assignments as well as various topics related to network security. He always encouraged class participation and he had a good sense of when it was time to call it a day. I highly recommend this class for anyone interested in network security.

Professor Sherby did an excellent job and did his best to keep a full classroom involved. You really need to be in the class to get the full effect. I would have liked to know what questions that I missed during the course to have a better understanding on where to study harder in. I would take another class taught by Professor Sherby

Great course with many labs using Citrix and other software.

I really hate to call it an "Easy A" class (the phrase really deprecates its value), but if you're struggling in his class, it means you just don't care. Prof. Sherby makes it his responsibility to work with everyone individually as well as a class. He also ensures that you'll master the subject. Expect work, its worth every second of your time.

Professor Sherby is a great professor and he used a simulation program plus lecture in this course. I learned a lot and at the same time it was clear and easy to get a great grade!

He's one of the best professor I've ever had since starting De Anza. The grading criteria is clear, he makes his lectures engaging, and he's an all around nice guy. It's never boring to go to class, and it's easily to get a good grade as long as you do all the assignments and review before each exam.

I definitely recommend this professer to teach students that enter De Anza College. He is well respected by a lot of students AND teacher/professers. All I can say now is that when he retires, it will be very, very difficult to replace someone as cool as him.

Great professor. Enjoyed his lectures and his random sparks of humor. It is not a difficult class and as long as you pay attention and do the homework - which isn't difficult - there should be no reason where you get anything less than an A. Enjoyed my quarter with him!

I like the fact that Mr. Sherby lets you use open book/open notes for the exams including the final. The only thing I did not like was he got off topic a lot and lectures were sometimes boring. But over all, I thought he was a great professor. Always helpful and answered my questions when I had one.

He made no one feel ashamed for their lack of knowledge of computers. This was a fun but also challenging class. I would take it again but only from this professor.

Really great teacher. Laid-back lectures and very straight forward assignments. Both classes I've taken with him were (at least partially) online, and the assignments were hands-on and, honestly, pretty interesting. Hope I can do another one of his classes in the future.

Most computer information system teachers at De Anza are either dull or recite things you can basically read from the book. When Professor Sherby lectures, he sounds more animated than most, which can get you engaged into what he's lecturing. As far as tests, he believes in learning hands on through labs. There's only one test, which is the final.

Mark Sherby genuinely cares and strives to teach in a clear, organized manner. He's an A+ teacher. This course uses SimNet, program, to facilitate learning and exams. It's a great program, except that the text on the screen is not crisp, even if you enlarge it. I squinted a lot, it made me angry. Course also has some written assignments.

Although this course itself was super easy, Mark tried his best to make it interesting and helpful. You will finally learn something like some functions of Windows, Excel, and Access, which were ignored before.

Great professor. He always comes to class in a good mood and ready to teach. He is so helpful and kind when answering questions. Class was online using SimNet, which is a bit pricey to gain access to (around $100). That's the only downside though. Easy and fun class.

Mark Sherby definitely puts effort into making sure you learn as a student! This class shouldn't be too difficult; his labs basically hold your hand while you learn the material. Although it is an easy class, do not make the assumption that whatever you learn is not valuable. This class could have been hard and boring, but he made sure it wasn't.

Mark is really a devoted teacher. Take him !!! you will never regret for what you've learned from this class.

This teacher is wonderful. You just have to do the assignment in Simnet and follow what he said you will get an easy A on it. Also, even thought each week will have quiz, but is quite easy to study as long as you do the assignment in Simnet. At the end each quiz he will boost up the grade for few %.

Mr. Sherby is a good teacher. His curriculum is organized and useful. He is always patiently describe various different computer technique application to his students. This class's Quiz and report aren't difficult. If you read lecture and do homework, you can get a good grade.

Mark Sherby did an excellent job presenting "Computer Literacy", CIS0004, during Winter, 2019. The "text" is online, called "Simnet": If you do all the assignments on time, you could get an A/A-. Mr. Sherby is straightforward & WANTS his students to learn this stuff. He also provides good real-world considerations for computer security.

my 2nd class w/ sherby and 'twas just as good as the first. you HAVE to read the chapters every week; "quiz" (more like test, bc 40q) q's are directly from the book, some word for word. he gives you the tools to succeed and if you pay attention you will. i learn more from him than other profs bc the way his class is set up. excellent prof.

Solid course, but a little finnicky at times.

Highest is an A. We have an exam each week, 1-2 writing assignments, lessons/labs, and final. All of them are on simnet. Exams are straight from the lessons/labs so make sure to study and do them again and again! TAKE HIMMM!!

He emails you so fast, and is always reaching out gives you updates and reminders. He's class is very clear to understand, and gives you chances to improve your grade. Really nice and caring teacher I've had at De Anza.

In the class, which I took asynchronously, I had many opportunities to improve my grade. You were able to make up quizzes and there is extra credit. The labs were very interesting, and it was definitely great to have a hands-on experience with the subjects that we were learning about. By far my favorite professor at De Anza!!! There are no hidden assignments or quizzes. Everything is straightforward and Professor Sherby gives great feedback on labs. Most of all his lectures are very thorough and reinforce the chapters and the labs perfectly. Make a schedule to study and execute for this course and you will succeed.

All class modules open on first day, except midterm and final. You can go at your own pace and knock the whole class out in the first few weeks or take it weekly like a regular class. A few opportunities for extra credit. Some assignments are not doable on MACs but there is a work around he will give you just requires a little more effort.

The whole class is actually asynchronous (apart from the final), unlocking as soon as the class opens and can be done at your own pace. SO much extra credit to be had throughout the class. The book and lab access costs aren't that bad as he sends out a discount in an email a week or so before class starts. Love his classes and recommend him 10/10.

I took this course last year and I still can't get it out of my head. It's essential for anyone/everyone living in our digital age. I had to drop the class due to being offered my dream job in tech, and I relate my success directly to this course. Sherby truly cares about his students. As an artist, I had no idea how interesting security could be!

The course was a bit tough because you needed to read one chapter per week, take 2 quizzes, and do a lab. The textbook says a lot of complicated info. But the professor was beneficial, responds quickly, and his video lectures helped in doing labs.

He's a fantastic professor. I would love to retake him in the future if I need to. Highly recommended. If you fail his class that's on you. You should pass his class with an easy A.

Pretty easy class. Just show up for the weekly lecture and do the weekly modules and the exam (which is pretty just a repeat of what you'll do in the modules and you can take it 2x) There are some extra credit assignments and a typing test as well

Professor Sherby is very respectful to his students. His discussion board assignments allow for some creativity, rather than strictly regurgitating what we read in the textbook.
