Prof doesnt test on same material as teaches in class. Lectures are ok but not the greatest.
Brother Showalter can be really funny at times but this is economics so it's not so easy to stay awake in. Lots of work, 2 chapters fromt he text, 2 chapters from a novel, an essay paper every week, 3-5 quizzes per week, 3 midterms and a comprehensive final but overall I liked him.
I really liked Dr. Showalter's class. He's really funny and his lectures stick to the text for the most part. The class moves very fast because there's so much material to cover since BYU combines micro & macro material into one semester. There's quite a bit of work, but it's bearable. A good alternative to taking Kerl.
Dr. Showalter can be funny in his lectures and often provides a comical "break" from the lecture somewhere in the middle. He provides basic insight into the economic principles as they are presented in the text. Daily coursework is about the amount to be expected; this is not a particularly exciting class. A GREAT alternative to Dr. Kearl.
He was not too tough. Probably easier than any other Econ professor.
He seems to be boring. Daily work to stay ahead. Online quizes as well. Interesting at first and then appears to be boring. Tests are harder and the key to make it is labs and classes. He tests on his stuff not necesarily from the text. still better than kearl.
Lots of busy work with assignments due on days when there is not class. Does he have a clue people work and have other classes? His busy work takes up too much valuable time, I guess it makes up for his boring lectures or the fact that he cannot teach. Moreover, the costs of books, the APLIA program, and a magazine subscription are ridiculous.
Showalter is probably the easiest of the Econ teachers, but the class is still hard. There is a ton of work to do throughout the week, but the tests are very moderate in hardness. The assignments are fairly easy and they bring up your grade if you do them.
Dr. Showalter is an extremely good, but also quite difficult professor. He is excited about the subject matter and is adept at getting students excited about it.
He's pretty good. In my class he taught just out of the book -no extra things added.
Daily homework assignments and class is a waste of time.
Signed up for it pre-mish, got text, oddly all chapters but those on "leftist" economists eg Keynes were assigned. Ended up not taking then. Signed up for it again post-mish; new reading list politically motivated (eg Skeptical Environmentalist; he belittled the book's critics in the syllabus). Will take from other prof+learn econ not his politics.
Don't be fooled - this is the hardest class in the major, but Showalter does a great job. Very down to earth, very good at explaining both the technical stuff and the applications. He worked under Mankiw in the White House, and also helped edit the textbook.
This was the hardest class i have ever taken. I didn't know what to study for the class. The lecture didn't help, the homework didn't help, the book didn't help. And i tried hard.
Great teacher. Does a good job at teaching the material. His tests are a killer, but the homework load isn't that bad. If you do the reading and homework and go to the lectures, believe it or not, but you actually understand the material! The tests are a little hard (average test scores usually in low 70's). But a good choice for ECON 110.
He was a great professor. I love his lectures, they are both interesting and applicable. He really helped me understand economics and actually helped me apply the things I was learning in my life. His tests are killer. The class average is usually in the low 70s. There is also a lot of homework and reading, but you will learn a ton in this class.
Easiest guy to take the class from.
Great guy, and really applies economics to real life in his class, but his lectures don't really help out with the homework. Study the textbook, and prepare for the tests since they are very hard. As a side note, he looks and talks like steve carrell. He is very funny.
Professor Showalter is a great person and knows his stuff well. Classes are intense and he doesnt teach whats on the homeworks, so GO TO LAB and WORK IN GROUPS. His tests are KILLERS but he curves mercifully. On top of it all, hes very relaxed and fun.
I didn't go to lectures, as they were essentially regurgitated directly from the book. Going to the labs help more than lectures. Do the readings and the homework, and with the curve the class isn't that difficult.
Great professor. Atmosphere in the classroom is rigorous yet relaxed. His homework and tests are very difficult. Much of the material on the tests are not covered in class or on hmwks. But this is econ...that's the point. He follows the econ philosophy that the really smart kids can figure the new stuff out. Tries to create a natural bell curve.
This class is a very difficult one. I feel Pro Showalter did a very good job at explaining the material. He lectures very well, though just paying attention is not enough. You will need to go to labs, do the homework in groups, ask questions, and make sure you understand the principles to be able to get points on the stretch questions on the tests.
This is a really tough class, but I think Showalter is the best teacher to take. He tires to make the class interesting. Most everything correlates directly to the textbook, and he covers the material very clearly. Lots of work. 2-page essay every week. 20-40 online HW questions after every lecture, plus reading. 2 midterms, comprehensive final.
Probably the most relaxed Econ professor. His teaching is laid back, and the tests will hit you if you dont put in the work. Go in to the TA lab and get a 10 on every homework assignment. If you do the Mankiw problems, the tests will be fine. The curve makes the class just like any other at BYU. I would recommend him.
Extremely nice guy! Prof MS does a very good job in keeping in touch with every student in a class of 250 students. His lecture is very interesting but not so helpful. The tests are ok, if u know the stuffs, u will be fine. The textbook is excellent. The works are quite heavy for a 3credit course. But in general, I would pick him if i were u.
Gives way too much work, not helpful, incredibly hard tests that are nothing like the homework. Take someone else if you can
Good class. He requires a good amount of work mostly to bump your grade up. If you do the work, and study in groups, you will succeed. Probably the easiest of the 110 profs.
Lectures and homework assignments never correlate to test questions. 3 homework assignments a week plus extra reading out of a separate book and the Wall Street Journal. Tests are killer, TA's don't know anything, teacher talks about application to life, not application to graded problems. Class was a waste of my time and money.
Hard class, but not that hard if you put in the work. I didn't really like him or the class that much, but it really wasn't that bad. TAs were pretty useless though. The easiest 110 class from what I've heard.
I don't think Dr. Showalter's lectures could get any more boring. There were a lot of homework assignments that had nothing to do with the tests. Your only chance for the tests is to study the practice tests like crazy. Although I didn't like this class, I have heard that he's one of the better teachers to take it from.
He looks and acts like Michael Scott from the office. I really liked this class and thought he taught it well. A ton of homework but no thing too hard. Great class, makes you look at life in a different prospective.
Prof. Showalter did his best with such a large class and a challenging subject. The class has a lot of busy work that doesn't correlate with the exams. His lectures were interesting, but again didn't really correlate with the exams. You use Aplia for online textbook and homework- if you do well in the class it is bc you teach yourself well.
Hard class. Lots of busy work. Professor Showalter is funny and a good professor, but he doesn't do a good job of telling you what you need to know. TA's are pretty much useless and good luck getting timely email responses from the professor, but overall it was ok.
It's got the reputation for being a tough class. Econ is just hard. I love prof Showalter he is a rock star. A lot of people stopped going to lecture cause of the web homework, but I kept going I thought it was helpful when he would go over it.
Fun class. You read academic papers for each class. It can be A LOT of reading. However, you're not expected to understand much of what you read, as long as you get the general idea. Big paper due at the end. Final isn't too rough. It's all discussion format. I enjoyed that. Reading the papers can be pretty stretching though.
Dr. Showalter is the worst professor I've had at BYU. I found him arrogant and ineffective. I can't speak for his 110 classes, but in 465 we read 60+ pgs of homework each day and then in class he would just ask what everyone thought, followed by his insightful 'ok.' I did fine grade-wise, but he and the class were a waste of time. Bad teacher.
I felt Dr. Showalter was a very impersonal teacher. I went in to his office to talk to him on several occasions and each time he came across distanced, awkward, and overly professional. Not the best class, wasted a lot of time. I'd recommend taking it from another teacher.
My favorite class that I ever took at BYU. Prof. Showalter makes class fun with all of his stories and examples. It has been the most influential class that I have ever taken.
Showalter is a great guy. I really enjoyed him as a person, but the class is just difficult. He does a descent job at explaining things, but the material is rocky and sometimes his logic isn't easy to follow. I did take half of the course from Butler, and a few weeks from McDonald, and it seems easiest to get a decent grade in Showalter's class.
Take Econ 110 from Showalter. There is online homework that takes up a lot of time, but it is for your benefit. Class was interesting, but not relevant to do well in class. His practice tests are SO helpful! He also offers bonus problems for extra credit. Also, utilize the TAs.... they help so much! Got an A.
The class is a joke. You are required to go so you can get iclicker points, but you learn NOTHING. I wish I could just stay home and read the book since it is 10X more beneficial. Also, there is a heap of busy work, and he makes you spend $150 on Aplia and an online text...money you will never get back. BYU, re-evaluate econ 110 course please!
Be prepared for lots of reading, too much to be honest. He is a good guy though and is willing to work with you. As far as econ classes go his is not too hard.
Dr. Showalter is a great guy. Very kind and willing to help you out in any way. The TA's were awesome too. I would highly recommend doing all the bonus assignments and making sure to do well on the homework. Tests are hard, but if you go to the Econ lab and do the practice test you should be fine. Hard, but worth it.
This class is VERY time consuming and the material is beastly. It's kind of like drinking from a firehose. Prof. Showalter is funny but his lectures have little to do with the actual tested material. I can't speak for future classes but the practice test SAVED my grade, the TA's are very nice and helpful.
It's a good class but's it is hard material. Showalter understands that it's a bleeder class for many programs so he doesn't make it very easy on you or anyone else. If you do the work and actually pound the concepts into your mind then you will do well. Funny guy, hard class.
Honestly, going to class is a joke. He doesn't really apply much outside of what we learn through the online reading. The only reason I went to class was for iClicker points. But even those are worth .1% of your grade. Just a hard class in general and seemed to make no effort to make it easier.
I took Econ from Butler and didn't do too well. So I had to take it again, and this time I took it from Showalter. I really believe that I did well in this class for two reasons: 1) I did all of his weekly extra credit work and 2) the online aplia is a much better option than doing homework out of the book. Take 110 from Showalter. Or else.
Showalter is a great guy. Makes a big effort to get to know everyone in his big classes. His lectures don't help you at all on the tests. You will do well in this class if you do the practice tests, extra credit, and work really hard.
Awful. Stay away. He doesn't even teach what is on the test. He gives you software that you use to teach yourself, and even that is terrible. It is extremely difficult to understand and the questions are misleading which leads to lower scores. You will have to spend 4 hours a week reading and then another 4 hours doing homework each week. AVOID!
He's a good guy but the lectures are useless. Seriously, just teach yourself from the book and really, really study the practice tests. They saved me. BUT be prepared, this class is super, super time consuming and the material in general is tough.
Showalter is a smart and nice professor; however, he doesn't teach well. He tests on in-depth material from the book and crazy algebra problems that are not remotely discussed in class. To do well on tests, go over the practice exams and discuss the crazy problems with TAs. The extra credit makes success possible. Take the class from someone else.
Showalter. Good man. Horrible teacher. I didn't learn ONE THING from his lectures and hardly learned anything from the homework assignments. The assignment are SO TIME CONSUMING yet they do almost nothing to prepare you for the tests. Speaking of which, the tests are almost impossible and he doesn't curve them. Really rough class.
So I gave this guy a tough rating a while back, but now that I am in grad school, I am realizing that what he taught, though difficult, was actually spot on. I am better prepared than my peers when it comes to econ thanks to his class and teaching. Use the TAs, they help a ton, and be ready to spend lots of time on Aplia.
Dr. Showalter assigned interesting papers that introduced and explained the developments in Health Economics. While it was a lot of reading, the course was well organized and I knew what to expect each day. He was able to present well, discuss a multitude of relevant material, and knowledgeable about the recent events pertaining to the course.
Brother Showalter is an incredible professor. By no means do i consider this class easy, but I found it very interesting. I had no interest in economics before this class and now I am an econ major. Bro Showalter knows how to make a difficult subject easy to understand by using videos, stories, and current events to teach the topics themselves.
He is an awesome teacher, but this is a difficult class if you aren't adept at economics before taking the class. His tests are very difficult, and he has homework every night. His lectures are very entertaining. Participation is mandatory because you have in class problems.
This class is tough. And it sucked. I have friends who take this class with Kearl. At least in that class he is specific to prepare you for the exams. Showalter does his own spiel rarely relating to the hw readings and never relating to the exams. Humorous guy, but that doesn't matter when I need lectures to help me pass exams. TA's are no help.
Dr. Showalter was a professor that provided entertaining lectures. You seemed like you were learning a lot in class until you had no idea what to do on homework and basically fail the tests. Do all the extra credit or else you wont pass the class.
Dr. Showalter is a great professor. He explained concepts clearly in the class, and he helped me to understand the concepts that were most difficult for me in the assignments. I would recommend doing the assigned reading before class, and then doing the assigned homework after the lecture. Also, taking the practice exams several times really helped
Professor Showalter was a pretty good. The TAs are what made this class possible, though. I went to 6 review sessions a week but it was still extraordinarily difficult to get an A. This class is hard, simply put, but if you put in tons of time, you can do it. Be friends with the TAs and do the God-sent weekly bonus assignments--they help a ton.
I really enjoyed this class. He's a great teacher though the material can be hard. Do the readings and make sure you understand it because there probably won't be enough time to get everything in class
Dr. Showalter is a great guy who is always willing to help you if you talk to him. The class, though difficult, is doable as long as you are willing to work hard to get a good grade. Tests are pretty tough; you have to really know your stuff to pass those. I would recommend Showalter for Econ 110.
Dr. Showalter tends to say "um" alot when organizing his thoughts, but knows his stuff and is interesting to listen to. Offers some limited extra credit and grading is fair. Read the book and do the review tests multiple times as 2-4 of the problems show up on the real test. Changed my major to Econ.
So I just took this class to fulfill my GE credit but I ended up loving it!!!!! And, so I switched my major to Economics. He really seems so passionate when he lectures and that helps the students. His tests are pretty hard but I think he curves them. He really cares for the students so if you have questions, ask! Going to the TA lab helps a ton!
Hardest class I have every taken. This was my first economics class and it was really frustrating because the teacher just assumed that everyone had taken some sort of economics before so he didn't explain it clearly. There was absolutely no application to our lives and it just looked like graphs on the chalkboard. The TAs helped, but didn't explai
Prof. Showalter really enjoys his job, and this makes it enjoyable to come to class. He does a great job teaching, and you are guaranteed an A if you do the extra credit. Granted, its hard extra credit, and I didn't do it myself :) Based on what I have heard of other Econ teachers, make sure to take it from Showalter! He cares and enjoys it.
Econ110 is rough, but I think Showalter was a decent professor. I think his lectures should be focused on helping us get through homework and exams. I spent more time on Econ110 homework than all my other homework combined. Text book is huge, tests are huge. Although, if you are bent on taking Econ110, you should probably take it from Showalter.
I retook Econ 110 and had to work hard for my grade. The great thing about his class is that he offers extra credit and replacement exams (he will explain the process). The only reason I got an A in this class was because i formed a study group at the beginning of class and we helped each other out through the whole semester. Exams way heavily.
Great class. All assignments are online, so you get immediate feedback and the ability to retry problems until you understand. Showalter was good as pulling in real world examples to describe the economic theories. The class is more theory heavy than math heavy, so it isn't hard to do well if you are able to visualize the big picture. Great teacher
Most Econ professors either focus on Micro or Macro Economics. Showalter does both. I wish I took from Kearl. All my friends that took from him complained how hard it was, but they got the better test scores. He does not prepare you for his impossible tests and his lectures are the most boring things on this planet and are rarely helpful
Econometrics is an absurdly difficult subject to study, so it's going to be a challenging class, even if you're an amazing student. Showalter is on every of the best though! He's caring and will always have your back. He'll become your best friend after this class
I didn't do the extra credit, super boring lectures they seem rote like he doesn't understand the application, only the theory behind Econ. he doesn't understand technology, I forgot assignments because he uses both LS and a separate website. He doesn't update/post grades until after the final. Face reminds me a little of Michael Scott.
I really struggle with Economics, so maybe I am biased, but this class is hard. He is a nice guy, makes lectures interesting and fun, but he won't take a lot of time answering questions (if you ask he will answer, but he won't fully do it, or he'll do it fast!). I went to the lab once, TAs just talk very loudly and I can't concentrate...
HE IS THE WORST
He looks like Michael Scott, and teaches like him too. He doesn't teach anything that is on the tests. They are super hard. This is the first B that I have ever gotten in college and probably my last. If you enjoy taking classes that you have to learn everything on your own and work super hard and STILL fail the tests, take MARK SHOWALTER.
This bro does not teach what is on the test. You have to learn all the difficult concepts of econ by yourself which is clutch. I would recommend taking showalter over any other teacher because you can get up to 5 percent extra credit. His tests are manageable but you have to study your life out. If I did not take this class, I would have a life.
Dr. Showalter shows an incredible respect for students. This class is a 400 level Econ course, so like many others, you will read many academic papers. Dr. Showalter outsources most of the lecture time to rotating groups of three students which serves to vary the class lectures. One of the better 400 level courses from what I hear.
This class isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Professor Showalter is great at helping you understand the material and gives great in class examples. The tests are incredibly challenging--I spent three hours on one once. Do the homework, study, and you should be fine.
Showalter is a fantastic teacher. He is very good at breaking down complex economic concepts in his lectures. As far as teachers go, he is one of the best teachers I have had so far. If you take this class prepare to work and study hard. There is a lot of homework that is necessary to understanding economics. He cares about his students.
Economics is difficult and it makes sense that it takes a lot of work to understand it, but wow! I am SO glad this class is done. It was frustrating when not all of the content would be covered in class. Some test questions were written poorly (like incorrectly). Do the EC from the start. Econ lab can be helpful. Be ready to work!
Dr. Showalter did a great job explaining economics. His tests and homework assignments are pretty straightforward, and everything can be found in the textbook. His lectures for 110 are based pretty much completely on the textbook, so if anything is confusing it can be cleared up with a little bit of reading
Professor Showalter is a solid choice for Econ 110, but the course itself is pretty difficult. There's a lot to cover, and the tests are harder than the assignments and are a large chunk of the grade. You'll want to go to every class and spend lots of time on the book or you'll get wrecked by the first midterm. It's doable if you work hard, though.
There is a LOT of reading for this class and you have a quiz each lecture so you have to read (he lets you use notes). I really enjoyed the class discussions and learn a ton from other students since you all take turns presenting the academic papers. There is a 10 page paper due at the end and the final is an essay test on 10 of the papers you read
This class is the hardest class at BYU and Showalter tries his best to make it doable, but falls short. He gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit, but the tests are very difficult. He tries to meet with students to show he is helpful but he will just tell you to go meet with the TA and the other 200 students in the class and to"just do better"
Great professor and class!! Tons of reading, but no other assignments until the very end of the semester. 70% of the grade comes from the term paper and the final so you really have no idea how you are doing until the end. Final exam is all essay style questions. Interesting class, tough one if you NEED an A ( b/c grading is all subjective).
Prof. Showalter is great at teaching Economics, which in itself is a tough subject. Study a lot and attend every lecture while taking substantial notes.
The lectures were good and he tries. You really do need to read to understand what is going on. He offers Extra Credit, which helps prepare for tests but are a lot of work. Exams are very difficult. The TAs help as they can. He tries to make the class interesting and it is worth it to go. A difficult subject.
I wouldn't consider myself an economist by any means; however, I have taken other considerably difficulty classes such as CHEM 105-107 and performed better in those than in economics. Honestly, if you put a ton of time into it, you can do better than I did, it just wasn't at the top of my priority list of classes.
Best teacher I have had at BYU. I took this class 2 years ago and still remember almost every example he used. I saw that his score is low and have no idea why, great professor.
This is a great class! The class is primarily discussion-based, and I enjoyed going to class and talking about current health economics issues. Professor Showalter is brilliant and a great teacher. You will have 2-4 presentations that you give in class, and there is a TON of reading. So it takes a lot of time but not too difficult.
Take this class! If you have any interests in Health Economics at all you can't go wrong with Dr. Showalter. You won't find a more caring and genuine professor than him. The class is heavily discussion based and there are about 4 groups presentations during the semester. Great class and even better professor.
He is brilliant and he teaches stuff well, the only issue is that the class is very poorly structured. Reading, lectures, homework and tests are all disconnected. You might want to take linear algebra before taking this class.
I took econ my first semester and even though I find the material challenging I really like Showalter! He gives us opportunities for extra credit and ways to make up for it if you don't do well on the midterms. No matter who you take it from it is going to hard (for most people) but from talking to others it seems he's the best one.
ECON 110 is a hard class, period. Every teacher is gonna seem difficult because the content is hard and you have to learn a lot. That's just the way the class is. As far as how Showalter does at making the class understandable, not insanely hard, and genuinely interesting, I think he did a really good job. Great guy, just be ready to work hard.
This was the worst class of my entire life. I have never been more miserable. I spent hours every week in the Econ lab and barely scraped by with a B. Professor Showalter is a nice enough guy but does not provide enough resources for how to succeed on his impossible tests. If you can take any other class besides Econ 110 do it. It sucks.
Econ 110 is not necessarily a hard subject, it is just a lot of information. Professor Showalter is great though, he is very organized, so understanding and has the fastest response time on a question from a Professor I have ever seen. He sets this class up for you to succeed, but you do have to work for it. I highly recommend Prof Showalter
There are a lot of assignments to keep track of, but Professor Showalter is pretty clear about what to do when. The homework questions and in-class questions didn't really reflect the kinds of questions that were on the midterms. Professor Showalter knows his stuff.
So... 388 is basically just linear algebra proofs with Professor Showalter. The lectures weren't necessarily entertaining, but the class was set up ok. I just memorized the proofs I could and did ok on the tests. I was on the early track though, so 388 has changed since I took it. Cool guy. The textbook is thicker than a milkshake with no milk.
388 is the hardest class in the major and frankly the hardest class I've ever taken. Take directly after 378 if you can. Showalter is the nicest guy and really cares about his students. He is extremely math heavy, and if you don't go to class there a good chance you'll be very lost. TA's office hours are vital for success.
This class was so hard but so good. The TAs were a lifesaver, and it is a must to attend the TA lab. Professor Showalter gave great lectures, but the tests were made up of extra credit problems and practice test questions. reading is crucial, be he sets you up to get an A if you take advantage of all the resources he is providing.
Professor Showalter genuinely cares about every student. The content of his class is complex, but he does everything in his power to help his students get good grades (like tons of extra credit). His tests usually include the extra credit questions and practice exams. If you put in time and effort, you should be able to succeed in his class.
Professor Showalter is great outside class but sometimes struggles to teach tough concepts, making it feel unfair to expect high mastery from students. The class leans more towards math than theory, with tests often math-heavy. The Cengage textbook is poor, with poor explanations. Difficult problem sets but they may help with tests if mastered.
This guy talks really fast and goes through material very quickly so be sure to do the pre-class readings so you're not too lost in class. Lectures are mostly skimming over the textbook readings so don't rely on them too much, go really in depth in the textbook readings and do all your assignments and you should be good. This class is hard.
Showalter is a cool guy, but his lectures felt useless. Usually, class is him rambling about something. The textbook and class time didn't feel like a helpful use of time. The only way I was able to do decent in this class was relying on the TA's and classmates. Be prepared to read a lot and spend lots of time with challenging material!
Structured where you teach yourself before class with online textbook--not too hard b/c textbook has lots of practice material online. Lectures aren't meant to teach, but review/apply. Exams worth a lot (35% final, 15% each for 2 midterms). One of if not the only 110 profs to give up to 5% extra credit guaranteed if you attempt practice questions.
Professor Showalter is a nice professor with lots of knowledge and a passion for what he teaches. That being said... he missed the mark. His class structure requires a lot of pre-class and post-class work, with the lectures feeling useless. Tests are insanely hard and different from class. The only way I survived was tons of time and the TA lab.
DON'T TAKE EOCN 110 FROM HIM. There's so much weekly homework that ends up being pointless for your grade because it's all determined by the test scores. The tests are insanely difficult and nothing like what's talked about in class. Attendance is mandatory but pointless. I spent hours studying for tests and still did not do good. WORST CLASS EVER!
This was a tough class, but I was also taking 18 credit hours. Maybe don't take this class with more than 14 in a semester if you are wanting an A. The final is 35% of the grade and it's cumulative which is what killed me. He is great and classes are enjoyable, but if you take the class you really need to have time to dedicate to it. Lots of HW
This class literally made me change my major to economics. I loved Showalter's lectures and how he applied what we learned in the textbooks before class to real life. Definitely a lot of work, but if you dive into it, it is super interesting and applicable to every aspect of life! Professor Showalter did a great job making assignments meaningful.
Professor Showalter is very passionate about what he teaches, and I feel that was the saving grace for my experience in this class. There is lots of reading and homework. This class accounted for 80% of my total effort toward school for the semester. Tests make up the dominant portion of your grade (65%) and the final is cumulative. It's a beast.
Showalter is very knowledgable about the material and provides engaging, helpful material in class. Because of the large class sizes though, working with TA's outside of class is THE MOST HELPFUL THING YOU CAN DO. Do not avoid textbook readings, do all of the assignments, and study hard for the exams and you should get a solid grade in this class.

Such an interesting and useful class! I wish this class was a GE because of how applicable it was. The exams are HARD. You really have to know your stuff to do well on them. Prof Showalter is good, but most everything I learned was from the text book, so get ready to read. Luckily the text book is an awesome read and was easy to understand!
Prof Showalter is a great teacher who makes a tough class manageable. He provides ample resources like extra credit and practice exams. Utilizing Unstuck AI and the free textbook can really help stay on top of the content.
really nice guy. I personally think he's just too smart to teach. He doesn't really explain anything and cannot seem to say a single sentence without mumbling. its just a very disorganized class.
Dr. Showalter is amazing. Don't get me wrong, his class is difficult. 65% of your final grade are exams. He is really friendly and try's hard to make challenging concepts easy. We had a small class size and he would bring us snacks, and refreshments once a week. He really is a great professor even if his exams might be a little difficult.
