very interactive lectures, enjoy his self-depreciating humor
quirky and smart. who needs anything more?
His class is like going to story hour. CA hist is explained in a story format. You go to class and it is interesting. I still remember details 3 yrs later. Nice guy
Cool guy. History before his class was always so vapid, but not anymore.
fantastic class. and very enlightening office hours.
cool teacher
Very easy going and funny. Class wasn't boring and he's very approachable. The final is really long though. It has short answer, multiple choice and 2 essays.
His class is a lot of fun and a lot can be learned from it. Lecture is interesting. Tests are a little hard- really study the study guide and be prepared to write a lot especially on the final.
Best teacher at SFSU.
Very easy going, funny, and keeps you interested. As long as you show up to his classes and do the assigned reading, you should have no trouble. Two midterms and a final are all that you're graded on. Sigmon seriously makes this clas worth going to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Sigmon is a great teacher! He's fun and makes class interesting. He has 3 tests per semester, which he gives review sheets for. You barely even have to go to class, and you can still get an A, as long as you get the "jist" of the reading material and 3 required reading books. Take his class!
VERY INTERESTING. He makes the class worth going to. Humorous and easy going. [doesnt take attendence...winkwink] 3 tests= 2 being midterms and then 2rd being final. First book was very boring...second is alright. Gives review sheets. By far one of my fave professor! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TAKE HIS CLAS
Very interesting teacher, I made it through the class very easily. I highly recomend this class.
he is a pretty good teacher. his perspectives are funny and make the class very interesting and worth going to. tests are fair, and as long as you do go to class and do the reading you should have no problem passing.
Mark Sigmon knows how to keep a class interesting. His lectures are great, and he clearly knows what he's talking about. My only problem is that he and his reader grade rather harshly on the tests (which your entire grade is based on), but I still recommend this class and teacher!
Mr Sigmon is an awesome teacher. He knows the material in which he teaches, however, at the same time while history may be boring to some he makes it interesting. His lectures are interesting and he knows how to make his class laugh. His tests are important, take good notes and you will do fine..
HE'S GREAT! HOLLAR!!! just read and review before the final/midterms! he made my intrest for U.S. history stronger than ever! thanks!
Though he claims to like the Oakland A's...deep down he's a Giant's fan. I went to most (wink wink) classes this semester and I'm getting a solid A at the moment. Sigmon will be your favorite teacher. I guarantee it or your money back. JK
Great Professor. Everything is spoon fed to you, just show up to his review sessions, however, i highly recommend attending as many classes as you can. Mark has great command over the subject matter and is very much in tune with the day's current events. You will want another class with him.
i learned more than expested
Very good teacher!!! Jokes around with the class, tests aren't too hard and no homework other than reading.
Sigmon has a good sense of humor. He is a fun lecturer and if you attend every lecture and take good notes, you should be fine. There is some required reading to do, but you can get around reading all of it if you go to the pages he gives in his study guide. Tests aren't too hard.
Great teacher.
Although this class was interesting, I had a hard time not falling asleep almost every single class. Sigmon isn't boring, I think it was just the time I took it at. The tests are not that hard; he gives you all the information you need to know. Even without studying much you can get a decent grade in the class.
Would not surprise me if he gave himself the hot pepper for his appearance.
He's a total A's fan. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so cool... Anyway, like everyone else has been saying, he's really funny. The only drawback is that he tends to talk very fast, so it's hard to write everything down (this is important since his exams are based on his lectures).
I highly recommend this professor...he cares about the subject and makes it interesting because he thinks it's interesting. he seems really down to earth and isn't scared to let his sense of humor out during lectures. not hard to do well as long as you show up and take notes. side note: when he shows movies, he eats like 20 altoids..it's kinda cute
I have taken 3 of his classes (I am a History major) because he is such a good teacher. It is obvious that he loves the subject. As for the exams, do the reading (or at least skim the reading) and take notes in class and you should be fine.
great teacher and very funny. class real easy esp. if you like history like moi. the biographies we needed to read were too much though, for me atleast. but movies are mostly great. i got an A w/o ever opening that text book but with great lecture notes
He's ok,I got an A from him and I barely went to class.
This was a good class. It bugged me that we really only learned the history of white discrimination in each event in CA hist though. You will love this class if you a are a flag carrying sf liberal democrat that hates yourself and your country! Do not put your own points of view on the tests, just spit out the propaganda you learned for an A
The class was great, he was good at keeping students engaged, it was very interesting material and he is HOT
Best history class I've ever had
I absolutely loved going to this class because he is just a lot of fun. He has an awesome sense of humor and still manages to teach you something.

What a hottie!! He is super nice and helpful. It is so easy to pass this class with an A and he has a great sense of humor. Very engaging with his students.
Great teacher
Great Teacher! made material very interesting! had to read a horrible book but werent really tested that much on it. made class fun and made jokes and unrealistic scenarios which kept the class involved. very easy to get a B if you pay attention to the l
this was a great class. i learned a lot. he has great lectures. you dont need the textbook. reading nate shaw and the things they carried was pretty easy. this is a great class. try to get in
Mark was a great Prof. Almost made me want to change my major to History but then I realized that I could never get a job.He is really funny he made fun of me cause I was from Seattle, but he knows deep down that he loves the rain and the M's. You need to work for your grade, but he will alway be willing to help and guide you. He loves blue books.
This guy is cocky! He does NOT know what he is talking about. The WORST teahcer I have ever had at an educational institution. Maybe I need glasses, but he is NOT good looking (AT ALL!!!)
a great teacher! he is know everything about CA history! i learned a lot from his class
Great prof. funny, clear, and interesting. there definitely is something extremely attractive about this man. show an interest in what you're learning and he'll love you for it.

Sigmon is an easy going lecturer with a good sense of humor. He knows he's teaching GE and only a handful (if that) of students are genuinely interested in US History so he makes the class easy to digest. I suggest the MWF class because it keeps the lectures short and sweet. PS I have a HUGE crush on him. Shh!
Made history interesting for me. I can actually remember significant dates with ease. I hated history before I had a class with Professor Sigmon.
Makes learning history more fun.
Its a great class....very informative, he knows his stuff...plus he's very handsome....cant stop starring...tehehehe!
Very clear and helpful. If you go to the lectures and pay attention you can do well on the test. I only used the book as a supplement- it wasn't really nec. I would suggest this class.
This was the second class I have taken with him, because I love his humor. He is very knowledgable and very critical. I love his style of teaching. The only issue I have is that this class wasn't as interesting. We had to read some very boring books, but they did get the point across. He is a very good teacher none the less and I highly recommend.
I totally loved this guy. I told all my friends to take him. He is smart and knows what he is talking about and he IS cocky but its sort of nice that someone knows stuff and knows they know it. I totally think hes hot in that older teacher way.... But seriously, he really makes history fun and gets down to the important stuff that happened.
He's NOT hot...he's old! Anyways, he's an extremely nice guy, and it seems like his test are hard, but he grades really easily. Take good notes and go to class and you'll do fine. He really understands the material. He's really good about make ups and if you talk to him he'll help you out with whatever it is. The tests are part essay and part MC.
test resonable easy if you know how to study the study guides
he was very cool, i got a b- in the class but he is a good lecturer. but hes not that nice out side of class especially if you correct him.
he is the best history professor i have ever had. he includes humor throughout his lectures which makes it even more interesting. his test are really easy, all you need to do is come to class and listen and it'll be a guarentee A on hte test. he also hands out guidelines and tells you what is going to be on the test, all you need to do is ask.
the best teacher ever he is so cute and nice and although his lectures can be boring he rocks and his tests are easy if you go to class
Awesome class. His explanations of the material were thorough and organized, and his lecture style was humorous and engaging. Highly recommend this professor. Attendance is important, since a good chunk of the exams are from the lectures, but it's not hard to show up since the class itself is enjoyable.
he is GRRRREAT! such interesting lectures on topics that wouldve been boring. loved his sense of humor. the way he lectures is as if hes telling a funny story. very effective to my learning, i can actually remember historical events in detail from the top of my head now. TAKE HIM!
Sexiest voice ever (don't you love superlatives?), lovely engaging smile. Very good lecturer-- manages to cover fairly hot topics and maintain a functional atmosphere. Tests are easy if you go to class and pay attention. I love him.
Mark looks like an older Michael J. Fox! But he's a good teacher. He actually makes you want to go to class, despite the fact that he doesn't take attendance. It's a fairly easy class, where you only take 2 midterms and one final exam. He tells you exactly whats going to be on the exam so getting an A or a B in this class is easy.
Mark Sigmon covers a ton of information in his class, but he is enthusiastic about his teaching and thus is alright to listen to. He gives rewards for frequent attendance like letting classes know essay questions that will be on the midterm. He also reads teacher reviews and tries to improve his teachings, which I think is admirable.
Sigmon's class is the one class I have this semester in which, I don't stare at the clock. His wittiness and sarcasm make his lectures interesting and keep the class awake. He tends to speak fast, but always repeats important (or potential test questions) facts. He'll make you become an A's fan. Sigmon is a major babe, disregard the other comments!
So in to himself!
one of the best history teachers I have ever had. his style of lecturing was really easy to understand and remember when taking tests, which were very easy to. You don't have to go to class, but he doesn't base the tests off the books as much as his lectures so who knows how you would do then. i always went to class because he was funny
Nice guy, clear lecturer, fair tests, not too excessive reading, shows interesting films. He doesn't take attendance, but you're at a disadvantage (test wise) if you miss his lectures. Considering this class is a mandatory GE, definitely makes it tolerable, because, I'm sure he knows not everyone is there by choice...
(Spring) Unprepared & unprofessional. Didn't have a book list until 5 days before the 1st meeting & kept adding requirements on the syllabus. Told us we shouldn't expect much because we "don't pay any real money to attend a state school" & lied that the dept "forced him to teach the class." Should only teach undergrads, maybe?
Awesome guy. Quite thourough in his lectures. Required to read 2 books. I never used the textbook he said to buy for the course.. No homework. 2 Midterms and a Final. The exams get progressively hard. The first is a breeze. 2nd is okay, and Final is quite difficult. Overall a good class and great guy.
He's totally awesome. Made this GE requirement not so bad. Very reasonable and does whatever he can to help his students. Has a good sense of humor. Totally enjoyed going to this class despite having to take it at 8. Does that say something or what?
Sigmon has brought back my love for History. The mid-terms were quite easy, but the final just asked for too much. I think he should've divided the final into two days. But overall I'm glad I had him as my professor.
Sigmon is such a good history teacher. I actually liked going to his class. His lectures are really good. Its like sitting through a movie because he explains everything in such detail. I didn't even need to study much for his exams because everything from his lectures stuck. Hes an amazing professor. Take him!
This guy is great. Very humorous, sharp, engaging teaching style. Makes the time go by, and teaches you about some very interesting things. This could have been a dry class. I also did find him standoffish when I met him outside class, but oh well. I simply have no complaints about his teaching. Bravo!
He's a very clear and concise teacher. I read the textbook and went to class to take good notes! Midterms are easy because his lectures stick with you! I recommend him!! He's funny and this class never seemed boring even though it's history!!
I have never ever been interested in history untill i took this class. his lectures are very interesting, helpfull, and fun. he takes and interesting look at history and his humor is on point.even if i wanted to skip class i would make sure i went his class before i left. and he's absolutley adorable!
He is a great professor, not the most organized, but a pleasure to listen to during lecture. Which is important when taking a night class. Would recommend him to future students.
I didn't open the text book once during the semester. I took VERY good notes. Did not miss one class. Before each test I reviewed my notes. For the exams I just wrote everything that I could remember in a logical way while inserting my own thoughts and conclusions along the way, rarely mentioning specific dates. Received an A on both exams.
I LOVED taking him. Best professor I've had so far at SF State. Went to class, took great notes (b/c he's a great lecturer), and got A's on all 3 midterms. You learn SO MUCH! He really liked our class, we cracked jokes with him. In the end...let us have a take-home final! got an A overall...and plus i have a wierd crush on him. haha
he told our class about this site and how people said he's hot because theres a chili pepper next to his name lol. over all, good teacher.
Great lecturer class is always interesting manages to make history clear! Funny guy, really nice. 2 midterms, 1 final provides study guide only thing that can hurt you is if you dont read atf for test ?s. attendance not mandatory but highly recommended besides its fun and it goes by real quick!
The professors I've had at SFSU, the more I appreciate what a good instructor Mark Sigmon was. Now I wish all my profs were a simple and straightforward as he was. Not sure about the class code, since I had him a few semesters ago.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SIGMON! He is by far one of the best teachers at SFSU. He gives wonderful lectures and keeps you interested the whole time. He gives his opinion but is very careful on not offending anyone. He is hilarious and charming and I have a major crush on him now. Your missing out if you don't take one of his classes.
you have 2 midterms and 1 final and thats your grade. i dont think that the exams are fairly graded. the tests include 1 essay for the midterm and 2 essays for the final. its not alot of time to write a decent essay and he is pretty tough about grading them. sigmon is a nice guy but i dont like his grading policy.
Great teacher. I learned a lot in his class. Although it a very large class, I always got great feedback and actually felt like my participation was appreciated. Definitely recommended.
Sigmond is awesome! The best part is I know he will read this! His class is very fun mostly because he has a really dry wit and puts his own humor in history! Flash cards, seriously he gives you a list of terms use flashcards and know all the terms because they really help you on the essays. Sigmon is great, goto class and you'll have a great time
AMAZING TEACHER! Hilarious. Makes the time go by fast. Videos. Entertaining lectures and bits about his personal life. Obvious that he loves his job and teaching. I completely recommend him!
Straitforward, respectful of students, and actually makes history interesting!!! Everything you could want in a teacher.
Wonderful, engaging professor. Take good notes
I LOVED THIS CLASS!!! I've never really enjoyed history but I always looked forward to this class. He makes the lectures interesting and fun and gives great feed back. I highly recommend him to evryone!
Love this class made it seem very interesting
Great professor, really gets students and open to hearing every point of view. He's fair with his grading. I really enjoyed learning all about history from him!! He's not your typical history professor, he's interesting and funny!! Definitely recommend taking him!!!!
Great professor. After being at SFSU for a few years, I look back on this class with greater appreciation. Sticks to topic; lectures are well planned and presented; doesn't pontificate with personal views; excellent listener; appreciates and encourages different views. This is what teaching is supposed to be, guys! He sets the bar.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT SF STATE. He is incredibly interesting, passionate about his subject, and he cares a lot about his students. I leave every class feeling like I understand our world a little better. A talented teacher and a great guy. Highly recommended!!!
THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT SF STATE. He is incredibly interesting, passionate about his subject, and he cares a lot about his students. I leave every class feeling like I understand our world a little better. A talented teacher and a great guy. Highly recommended!!!
He is hott!! not only is he great to look at he actually is equally good to litsen to. i have never had a more interesting history class, thats why i'm taking him for hist 450!! can't wait.
I've taken Mark for 3 classes now at SFSU, and I wish I could have him teach all my history classes. The material he covers is not always easy, but because the lectures are structured so well, and since he is such an excellent storyteller, I always feel like I leave his class with a greater understanding than I previously had. Highly Recommended.
Quality lecturer, like watching a good documentary on the history channel except you can ask questions if you want. Entertaining to listen to. God forbid I should ever have to take another history class, but in case I do I'd hope to have him.
he made U.S. History fun...what more could you want from a course you HAVE to take?
I took this class because i needed the units but i'm really glad i did. Sigmon really knows his stuff. He makes history interesting (shocking I know) and can relate it to current events and things we care about. There were two midterms and one final. just show up to class and take notes because most likely it will be on the test. I recommend him!
I loved Mark sooo much! I would recomend him to everyone!!! He is by far the best professor I've had at state. The class was not neccessarily easy but his lectures go over everything you need to know to get an awesome grade. So if you pay attention and attend class its cake. He is the nicest man and offers help whenever you need it!
Finally a guy who makes history interesting. Not too hard of a teacher, just read the assigned material, go over the study guides, pay attention--you know, be a student! Highly recommend for people who like history. Funny guy too
Unimpressive. Tried to act too much like John Stewart the history teacher. Avoid if you're interested in serious history, go for Leikin.
Forgettable. Unimpressive.
Professor Sigmon was the best teacher I've had so far at SFSU. When he taught, it was as though all the dusty old things of history were modern-day events. It was VERY INTERESTING, extremely fun, and super easy (as long as you take the notes and go to class). I am planning on taking another history class with him as soon as possible!!
Great professor. He was hilarious and an excellent conductor. Definitely take his classe(s) highly recommended!
Took him for summer, was pretty chill, let us out early a few times. Class based on a midterm and Final. He was pretty fair I guess, I wish my grade were a notch higher. He can ramble on a bit, but overall I would recommend him.
Its an interesting class and he shows really cool videos. His tests are straight forward. multiple choice, vocab, and an essay at the end. If you study youll do fine. my class was at 8am & i slept a lot..but most of it was interesting & was like a high school history class...
BEST teacher on campus. I wish he taught other classes. Took him for summer... dreaded history... but after taking this.. history was soooo fun.Especially how he taught it. The class was very interactive.. so it kept u awake. only 2 test tho.. very easy.. I got A in first one.. but prob A- in second. so overall.. A-.. unlucky. (highly recommended)
Good class. A lot of interesting info, even though you don't use all of it on the tests. Read the books!
I had Sigmon for Fall 2007... and I really enjoyed it! I never was that interested in history before but after taking the class with him I was actually considering taking another with him! I highly suggest you take this class, he knows how to keep the class interesting. READ THE BOOKS! If you do and go to class you are golden! :)
I had Sigmon last Spring and now i regret not taking him for CA History this semester (Don't take Tygiel!) I recommend Sigmon because he's a sweet, relaxed professor and his midterms are easy if you show up and study the terms he hands out.
I am not a history fan but Sigmon makes this class very interesting and fun.
Mark is awesome. He is intelligent and down to earth. He won't make you feel inferior like a lot of teachers. He is really sweet and knows the material. This class was always interesting. Highly recommended. One of the best teachers on campus. The class is easy because he teaches it in a way that helps you remember it.
Sigmon is a great speaker and makes attending class interesting. He's very sweet and approachable. Tests are pretty easy, just attend lecture and know the terms he hands out on the study guide before the test. Read the book for the multiple choice questions on the exams.
HOTTT!! totally crushed on him all semester. Really funny, knows his ish so well, its so inspiring the way hes super smart and kinda goes off subject with stories about the people were learning about but so cool to hear. i love this teacher. i wish i could take him alll year long.!
I don't know why people think he's hot? But besides that, he's a great history teacher. Loved his class, and never missed a single class because his lectures are so engaging. He's very passionate about history, and it's a great class. Tests are pretty intensive, but not that bad if you attend lectures.
super easy, grades off of two midterms and a final, but passes out study sheets with EVERYTHING you need to know for them. really entertaining lectures.
I wish I could take him again. Gives study guides that tell you exactly what will be on exams, gives excellent lectures, would recommend taking him. Easy grader, intelligent, and approachable.
He's a straight up comedian. I have never taken a history class that actually kept me interested in the lectures and made me laugh. I really enjoyed this class. Your grade is based on 2 midterms and a final. Attendance isn't taken but you shouldn't miss the lectures because most of the stuff he teaches you isn't in the book, but is on the test.
He is such a cutie! I had something to look forward to every Tuesday evening! If u want some eye candy and a super chill teacher take Sigmon. He is def hot ; ) PS if you want to get on his good side just tell him you love CAL.
sigmon is such a hottie!!! his earing got me the first day, but then he would slick his hair back, :D:D:D:D >_< >_< i think everyone should take his class, class are funny and intresting and u dont really have to take notes (but u should) cuz he relates everything so well it sticks to ur mind. he is sooo cutie when he slicks his hair back! >_<
Prepare to have different view on history. He's not scared to tell you the truth about how messed up we are as a society, which is great, I think. We need to hear the truth. What more can I say? Everyone seems to love him, and I agree! He's really a good teacher and knows his stuff. He's also funny, like everyone else has already mentioned.
I've taken Mark for 2 history classes now. I like him because he's prepared to teach every week. He knows what he is going to tell you and he thoroughly prepares you to do well on his tests, of which there are 3 to base your grade upon. In upper division, he also has to assign 10pgs of writing, but he's overwhelmed by big classes so bear with him.
I took his night class last sem for 3 hours, and he's such a funny guy! his sense of humor makes his lectures fun rather than boring. Tests are pretty easy, all you have to do is read the book and you'll be fine. Besides tests days, be prepared to take alot of notes during a daily base. Occasionaly shows good movies, great teacher! take his class
He is a great teacher. Makes history interesting to learn. Homework is reading but I never did it and was fine. 2 midterms, a final and a take home paper. Grades fair. I enjoyed coming to class. He doesn't take attendance but his lectures helped me the most on the exams. I missed maybe 5 or 6 classes but still ended up with an A-.
I recommend this professor to you if you haven't taken him already. He makes history enjoyable and is very laid-back. I took his class and passed with a B+ without touching the textbook though I suggest you take good notes if you go this route. I recommend reading the novels though.
Teacher is funny, but as a historian vague and simplistic. Lets just say, he is having our history class read a FICTION book for the history class...??? not sure how that works.
Dr. Sigmon is a great history teacher -- very passionate about teaching, and he has a very enjoyable wry wit. When I took History of California, he gave essay (Blue Book) exams, which took him weeks to read and grade, rather than taking the "easy" way with m/c questions. He loves his work, and it shows in everything that he does.
Awesome professor! I used to think History was a bore and took the course only because I needed it... what a surprise! His lectures are like storytelling, which is really helpful when you are trying to remember all those events. Also very approachable and helpful if you want to talk to him before/after class.
He is a very easy professor. just go to all his classes and listen to his lectures. His exams are very easy if you actually took notes. You don't have to read the book at all since all the things he says in the lectures are from the reading.
Sigmon is by no means a great historian, but his funny personality make his lectures interesting and he can generate good class discussion. Plays lame Hollywood movies with Morgan Freeman for some reason. Very relaxed history class; if you take good notes and skim the text every now and then you'll be fine.
Make sure you do all the work and you'll be fine. Very nice but not the fastest on grading and return of work though.
dr. sigmund was pretty cool and funny, in a monotonous way. He enjoys engaging students in the content of the course, which will help if you pay attention and take notes. you have to nail the essays in the tests in order to get a good grade in the class though.
This guy is awesome. Could not have learned more, or been happier with the way he ran the class.
BEST HISTORY TEACHER EVER! Seriously- I don't think I learned so much in all my other history classes put together. Teaching style laid back and easy to follow. Can pass without getting a textbook. Approaches subject with humor. Not the fastest grader though, but that doesn't matter--GREAT TEACHER--take his classes!
Sigmon is an awesome teacher! He cares about his students and takes the time to get his students to be interested in history. 1 reading book, a final paper, a final, and 2 midterms.
Pretty good professor for an extremely boring subject. Class focuses quite a bit on minority history in California which I guess is relevant for the most part. If you go to class and that's it you should get at least a B. Study a little and bump it to an A. Good professor over all
Class is pretty much lecture and tests. Tests consits of id's, m/c, and an essay. No other papers to write. Very nice teacher and pretty funny. Overall, show up every once in a while, read, and you'll do fine. He does not take attendance but does reward people who do show up by telling them what will be on the tests.
Fantastic teacher. He is an As fan though...
I agree with most positive comments on here. I want to add that he is SO nice if you go to his office hours. He really sits with you and wants to get to know you and help you out. He listens with great empathy, and treats students as human individuals. He basically puts the humanity and compassion back into the concept of education.
One of the most hilarious teachers at State. I got a B+ in his class. We had to do two midterms and one final. The class isn't hard at all, in fact other than the assigned reading, you didn't even need the textbook because he tells you literally everything that would be on the tests. I recommend this teacher.
This class wasn't so bad. No homework, just 3 exams. He tells you whats going to be on the exam which is very helpful. It wasn't so easy cause I don't know history too well, but I still managed to get a C+ which is pretty good considering the little time I spent.
I took this class the fall Obama was elected president. We were in the middle of a midterm and Mark turned on the projector so we could see who was going to win. When Obama won, we all stopped and cheered, I had tears in my eyes. I will never forget him or this memorable moment.
You will do well by just showing up to class, and I truly believe this is how it should be. Some teachers just don't know how to teach, this guy is amazing at it. I've learned so much more in this class than in any other history class. If you do the assigned readings, you'll most likely get an A. Why can't all teachers just be as effective as h
Mark is a cool guy and his sense of humor is different but funny. He is very knowledgeable and good at teaching. I highly recommend his class. Missed about 7 days of class all last semester and still got an A-. 3 midterms/no hw. If u show improvement in your test scores, he'll bump up your grade a bit.
Mr. Sigmon is a great teacher, especially if you're interested in learning about history. He always makes little jokes during class and has a way of teaching that makes information that can be hard to retain really interesting. Aside from that he really really cares about students. Gem of a teacher.
Sigmon is the best professor! Take his class. If you go to class you will learn the material very well, and you will be able to pass the tests easily. Once I had to leave class during a test for a personal issue, and he was very kind and let me make it up the next week. I recommend this professor highly. And he is hot.
I loved going to his classes. He made his lectures interesting, I actually wanted to take notes. He's pretty funny too. He was very understanding when I wasn't able to take a midterm so I got an extra weekend to study for it
It's very easy to listen to his lectures because he makes it interesting and he has a good sense of humor. The class is pretty clear cut, i.e. go to class, and take good lecture notes and you should do well on the exams. No tricks for exams. Everything he asks is in the notes. Take good notes in class and you will get a decent grade.
Best damn history teacher EVER! He's very into the topic he teaches and he makes sure that every lecture is interesting and fun. Easy class (for me), 2 mid-terms (25% each) and one final (50% each). You don't need to read the book at all if you listen to his lectures, make sure you take good notes. Fun class and you'll learn alot too.
He looks like Dustin Hoffman kind of. You have to listen to the lectures or read the book. also extra fictions novels-Steinbeck sucks, but you may like him.Great teacher!
He is pretty good looking, he looks a lot like the guy who played the English teacher in the movie My Girl. Anyways his class started off slow and I wasn't sure what he expected out of his students but as the semester went on I got more comfortable with the class. He has great lectures and you learn a lot in his class. Great teacher.
This class made history more interesting and fun. great proffessor!
Sigmon's lectures were very straight-forward. They got right to the point and conveyed all the information necessary to pass his exams, but his attitude and mannerisms spiced it up a little bit. He lets you record lectures, type notes, whatever, so even though attendance isn't mandatory, it's not a bad class to attend.
Great professor! Take this class! You can tell he is very passionate about the subject which makes it easier to understand because he spices up his lectures with a sense of humor. Overall, very simple class. You don't even need to read the textbook but you do need to read After The Fact for the fill-in-the-blank questions on the exam
It is refreshing to have a professor that teaches history in an engaging and concise manner. It feels like you're being told a story... He's clear, funny and insightful. If you take proper detailed notes and buffer it with the textbook you will have all you need to do wonderfully in his class. Quite a pleasure. Makes me wish I were a history major.
the 3 exams determine your final grade and it's based off his lecture mostly, so it is a good idea to attend each class, but he doesn't take attendance. Really funny guy. interesting class.
awesome teacher!! took 2 of his classes and hopefully a 3rd this semester!! by far my favorite teacher at sf state! he is funny and his teaching style really helps you remember the information.
One of the BEST teachers at State! I thought this class was gonna be boring, but he makes it interesting! His great sense of humor makes this class bearable and kinda entertaining. Just show up to lecture and take notes. 3 exams-- mostly based on lectures but occasionally focused on the texts. I RECOMMEND!
Probably my favorite prof. I've had at SFSU. Attendance isn't mandatory but go anyway because he's a great lecturer. He's clear and he's funny, & overall a nice guy. There are 2 midterms, 1 final, & no homework. The 3 tests involve a handful of MC questions, an essay (you choose from 3 topics), & choosing & explaining 5 terms out of a list of 10.
He's a great lecturer and he's really funny as well! I never particularly enjoyed history prior to taking this class, but he makes it interesting! I guess it all depends on who's teaching it. I definitely recommend taking it :)
He's a funny person, so his lectures aren't really boring. And the fact that he talks about events like a story in such detail helped me understand the info better. I only had trouble taking notes when he was talking fast at times. Other than that, I definitely recommend take a class w/ Dr. Sigmon :)
Your grade is based on 3 exams, so make sure you prepare well. I recommend you record lectures because you can go back and listen them when studying for your tests. I wish there was some sort of extra credit or homework because sometimes the reader grades really tough.
His class influenced me to major in history! You won't regret it taking his class!
I absolutely despise learning about history, but Sigmon managed to make the subject interesting and even funny at times. He talks super fast and shoots information at you like crazy. Bring your laptop and type notes; you won't be able to keep up with writing by hand. Grade based on 3 lengthy exams. Provides study guides so you know what to study.
Loved professor Sigmon! His insights were wonderful, his teaching was incredibly informative, and his sense of humor is undeniably entertaining. His class is easy to ace if you pay attention during lecture and take good notes. I HIGHLY recommend everyone to take his class!!
really nice guy. presents information in organized way. take hella notes and you will get an easy A. tests multiple choice and short essay. the grader is generous. ps there was NO HW just reading
He isn't the world's most interesting guy, or maybe history just isn't my favorite class but he does his best to make it interesting. You can tell he's passionate about his profession. He's relatively funny. Can tend to ramble sometimes. My tips: take notes, go to class, read - but that's college, right?
TAKE HIS CLASS. YOU WONT REGRET IT! I HATE HISTORY BUT LOVE THE WAY HE LECTURES! As long as you take notes on pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth and read the text book After the Facts, you'll be fine. TAKE HIS CLASS. TAKE IT!!
Really good professor. Even humorous when telling his lectures. The way his class goes is there's terms he explains them through his lecture and you take notes so you can explain the term on the midterm. Pretty straight forward. The class is extremely interesting if you love CA. I highly recommend taking him.
Absolutely awesome. I enjoyed every lecture. He is able to keep the class laughing, involved, and interested in the subject, which is not easy for a history class. He clearly outlines what you will need to know for the three tests that make up your grade. He is attentive and understanding of each persons needs, treating everyone equally. A+
I had to take a history class and thought it was going to be a sleeper...Boy was I wrong! Professor Sigmon is great! A clear instructor that makes history a fun and interesting subject. His lectures made me laugh and have fun in the hour and a half I was there. You will learn a lot, but I would not recommend another history teacher. Sigmon is A+!
This guy is a dope teacher! Funny thing about him is he actually looks at this website. Its a no brainer how to pass his class. PAY ATTENTION AND READ THE SIDE READING. He lectures everything in the textbook. I never even bought the textbook and I got a B+
I took all of his classes. He is an absolutely amazing professor.
Easy class. And honestly, he made time past by really fast. A fantastic lecturer. Only 3 exams which constitute your grade. Short answer ID with an in-class essay, which seems daunting, but trust me it's not. Overall, I would recommend him
Lectures are easy to listen to. Cool and funny guy. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he rewards students who show up by telling them what will be a question on the next test. Read After the Fact and Killer Angels!! If you do that and take good notes, you'll be fine. I definitely recommend his class.
It is impossible to hate this man. Fun class and very interesting and amusing lecturer. Great hair and an amazing voice!
He's such a funny guy; is very proud of his PhD from Cal (heard about it many times). His sense of humor makes history more tolerable. Three exams and that's it! Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps. Awesome prof. His hotness rating isn't in vain, for someone his age anyway. Definitely recommend.
He is an awesome teacher but you have to go to every class in order to get a good grade. If you do the readings and pay attention you'll get an A
In order to get an A, you HAVE to jot down every single word that he says. Good note taking is crucial if you want to do well on the 3 tests. Making America wasn't really necessary since everything was taught in the lectures. But definitely read After The Fact and Killer Angels.
If you are even the least bit interested in American history, you will like this class. The teacher is a killer angel! brutally honest, friendly, relatable, great sense of humor. If you want to do well in the class you should go to class, but attendance is not taken. Warning!: Professor Sigmon LOVES BASEBALL, he even teaches a class on it!
Mark is an amazing teacher. His classes are tough to pass if you don't show up and take notes but he's super funny and very friendly. He's really sarcastic sometimes which makes him all the funnier. Huge baseball fan. Great guy.
One of if not the best instructor at SFSTATE, Go to class and you will be greatly rewarded, his lectures are never boring.
LOVED LOVED LOVED HIS CLASS! If you want to take Hist. 120 take it with Sigmon!! But, you have to go to class everyday because the lectures are very in depth. He`s pretty funny too!
Prof. Sigmon is very charming and keeps you interested throughout the lecture. He's funny, and doesn't stick completely to textbook material but tells you what really happened without sugar-coating it. Take lots of notes and you'll be fine!
GREAT professor. His sense of humor makes you feel like you're hanging out with that one really sarcastic friend of yours who's also really smart. Makes lectures go buy quick. You're gonna need to learn history eventually, make sure you learn it from him!
I am so glad I got to take a class with Professor Sigmon. He is one of the best professors on campus I believe. He is very down to earth and funny. He makes history very interesting! Workload is relatively easy if you pay attention in class and take notes! I missed 3-4 classes and did well in his class!
For a history class, I enjoyed it. Prof. Sigmon had a way of making all of the events interesting and sometimes humorous. You do need the reader and the book (but the book was actually interesting). 2 midterms and 1 final. I'm warning you now, if you do not study for these exams, you will fail. These 3 tests are your entire grade so git 'er done!
Great teacher. Sigmon teaches in a way that makes history interesting. His tests however, are not that easy. Show up to his classes, take notes and you will do well. Test format is straightforward, essay and multiple choice and short answers. Overall, great professor.
I think that he's a great teacher. Test are pretty simple if you go to class and pay attention to the lectures. I would suggest that you try to go to class everyday, because he gives out freebees on the midterms and final.
Professor Sigmon has his way of making history interesting. If you show up to class and pay attention, you'll pass easily. I enjoyed taking his class I hope you will as well!
awesome lecturer! this is the second history course i took with him! go to class and the test will be easy, since he occasionally tells you what will be one the test and tell you the answer. 3 in-class midterms with 2 in-class essay and the last midterm will have a take home paper.
Great professor. I liked his sense of humor. He is clear about what he wants and grades fair. I am not a history major but this class was interesting and manageable for me. I recommend Dr. Sigmon!
Professor Sigmon is very knowledgeable in his subject and makes class interesting. I would definitely recommend taking him and going to lectures because he teaches history in a way that makes it interesting and funny. If you want an A, go to class and read the books.
The ONLY thing I didn't like about his class was the group of pretentious Grad Students who tried to out teach him when they really didn't know what they were talking about. The bad reviews on here were probably from the lame kids who find it entertaining to interrupt his lectures to spout bs from their mouths. He's excellent. Highly recommend.
Goes over all necessary materials in class. Read the books assigned because they will be on the tests. Gives study guides and keeps the class interesting by cracking jokes and making references. I highly recommend this class and this professor!
First teacher ever to make history interesting for me. Seriously he's amazing. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Sigmon is the best teacher I've had for history. He makes the lecture really interesting. Make sure you attend every class and to take notes because everything is hugely based off his lecture. Books are important too. The TA Nick was also helpful. Attend study sessions. Only have 3 exams.
Sigmon is pretty funny and a great teacher. He often explains historical situations in a very casual way with relatable comparisons that make it super-easy to follow along with what is going on. I am going to take more classes with this professor.
He is funny and makes lectures interesting but study or you will struggle on the tests. take good notes and read the book it helps for the vocab part of the tests! 2 midterms and final the final is broken into 2 parts like the midterms except the essay is take home. so its usually vocab, MC, and an essay and short answer like a sentence worth.
Go to class and take notes, almost everything on the exam is based on lectures. Overall, it was an okay class and Sigmon cracks some jokes from time to time.
I'm so glad I took Sigmon for HIST 120! He requires us to have all the textbooks, but if you go to class I think you ca go without the main textbook. He gives you a study guide with terms which is really hopeful. He's also a very easy grader. I would really recommend him, you won't regret it!!
His lectures are easy to follow and I history even more.
Never really liked history until I had this teacher. He makes history interesting, everyone in the class laughs, and even though he doesn't take attendance, students show up everyday. Just take good notes, if you do that, and fill out the study guide, you're good to go. One of the best teachers I've had.
Lectures were interesting! It was more like he was telling stories! He is funny and understanding. Doesn't take attendance but study guide reflects off of notes. If you know the study guide you'll get an A on his tests! I would highly recommend taking this class. No homework but you need to study for test! Nice guy!
Great Professor! Easy to understand! Only one thing I would like to emphasize is to show up to his lectures and take great notes. I would recommend him.
He teaches History how History should be taught, like a story. There's a lot of note taking in the class because he talks the entire time w/o using slideshows or anything(which is better because you can concentrate on what he is saying). I would take his class a billion times if I could.
He gives all his lectures just by talking, no visuals and no posting on iLearn. BUT, his lectures are so fun and interesting, you'll feel like you're listening to a story. You have to go to class to get all the information, and you need to be a good note taker. His tests are relatively easy if you study and pay attention in class. I LOVED this clas
He's very passionate about History and I would definitely take this class again. He gives tests in 2 parts: multiple choice/short answers and an essay portion. He lectures and you just take notes so if you miss a day then you don't know what he talked about that day. The ONLY textbook needed is the After the Fact book he puts together.
One of the best professors at SF State in my opinion. He does lectures every day but they are very interesting and easy to pay attention to. The tests consist of multiple choice/short answer and an essay. Very very very easy if you take good lecture notes. Just listen and write everything down and you'll enjoy the class a lot.
HILARIOUS. I personally really enjoy History and taking this class made me love it more. His lectures are very informative, and he's really open to answering any question you may have after or even during his lectures. Tests are very straight forward, if you show up then and take decent notes you should pass! Really awesome teacher.
Best history class I ever took, really funny and his lectures are very clear. He ties his lectures to the reading you have to do before going to class. Lots of reading but it honestly does help you when he's giving a lecture and because everything he talks about are on his test! Really easy chill history class. Would take again
For sure my favorite professor that I have had at SF State, I highly recommend him. His class is interesting, his lecture is very clear and he is also clear about his exams. Take it seriously, if your not going to go to class you should just pick a different class because just listening to lecture tells you what you need to know for tests.
Awesome professor. He is hilarious and teacher really good. He is accesible outside of class and always willing to help. I would definitely take him again.
Best history professor EVER
No homework at all, and he doesn't write anything down. He pretty much tells you what is important and what you need to know for the tests, so as long as you show up every once and a while or even just for the review, you should be able to get an A on all his tests. Super easy class, definitely recommend this guy. Made history a lot less boring.
I enjoyed every single class. He's the bluebook of University Professors.
Best history class I've ever had. I always used to fall asleep in history but he makes it so interesting. No homework. Never got the textbook and I got an A in the class. If you go to class every day and take good notes you won't need textbook, but good to have to clarify. No attendance but everyone goes anyways. 2 midterms and a final. Study!
Made my first semester of college really easy. Just make sure to show up to class and take good notes. Also read your "after the fact" book. Never read the textbook but I got everything I needed from the notes. Also study for the exams, there's two parts and one of them is an essay portion. He will usually tell you what to expect on the exam.
Mark Sigmon is a living legend. This class is so interesting and straightforward. He writes a list of terms on the board each day and that's all the exams are based off of so just attend class and take notes and there is no way you can't get an A.
Professor Sigmon taught my Metro Program class this semester at SFSU. He's a cool professor that stays up to date on the news and informing the class about it. His essays on the small books are very specific and he gives good feedbacks. He also help with your small writing mistakes sometimes to clarify what's wrong. Participation does matter.
He breaks down events in a way that an ant can understand. I've learned so much in his class, and I fell more informed on why certain events are taking place today. He is hilarious and I recommend him 100%
He is amazing! He is heavy on lectures but they're not boring at all! He's super funny and you can tell he cares about all his students. I genuinely learned stuff in this class. He is a super chill dude and this class is easy if you show up and take notes.
The class was a great class literally takes his lectures and records them for you and really helps you when you take the test with great study guides just an amazing teacher, not an easy A gotta work a little
I highly recommend taking this class. Dr. Sigmon first attempt at doing an online class is a success in my opinion. His lectures have a great deal of information and how he delivers them is entertaining. He provides honest and detailed feedback on essay assignments.
Even though it was hist first time doing an online class, Professor Sigmon does a great job on ensuring that you pass the class. Provides great feedback and always tries to stay connected with the students.
You can tell this guy is a very passionate person and is also pretty funny. There is NO HW but when it comes to the test you better have good notes bc it's open note! I feel like it is better to go to class bc his slides are not helpful for tests. GO TO THE CLASS BEFORE THE TEST bc he basically gives out the questions for the tests.
Professor Sigmon is definitely great to take with for a GE course. If you want an easy and super funny, yet nice teacher, Mark Sigmon is the one. Not only will you learn, but as long as you show up I would say your chances of getting an A in the class is really high. All exams are open note and 3 essay papers that are easy. Would recommend!!
The best professor I've had. He is so caring for his students. He really knows what he's talking about bc he rarely looks at his notes during lectures. Make sure to take really good notes of the lecture and the assigned readings bc the tests are open note! Also he is really understanding so don't feel scared to ask questions about anything. 10/10
When I took mark it was his first time doing an online class and he did really well! Lectures online. There is a good amount of reading. Very caring, make sure to take notes. If youre lucky youll see his cat belle on the lectures!
the first time took him, online class. super easy and pass. total 4 quizzes and 2 home paper. quizzes including 10 mc questions and open note. recommence to take him again
Professor Mark is very funny and he is very big fan of CAL. Just go to the class and take good notes, you will end up with good grade. Open note exam and no homework. 3 essay & 3 exam. 60 points for exam and 40 points for essay in each exam. Easy class. Good luck .
Absolute GOAT as long as you pay attention to his lectures and go to class its an easy A. He goes over everything that will be on the quizzes during lecture so if you take notes you'll do good on the quiz
Mark is a really easy going and reasonable professor. His lectures are interesting and informative. Quizzes are open note and the papers are easy to write about. He also likes to talk about current events at the beginning of his lectures. There is no homework. He is a really nice guy who doesn't make you bored during the lectures. Very respectful.
Truly my favorite teacher at SFSU. He's extremely understanding, gives very informative lectures, and will go out of his way to ensure his students are happy and understanding the material.
all of the tests are open note, so don't miss class.
Mark is a great instructor. He can help you with what you're struggling in the class, and his lecture on baseball and learning the history of it is amazing. Highly recommend taking him
There technically wasn't a textbook required for this class but you will need a few baseball books to read and take notes on for a test or paper. I would say attendance is mandatory just because you need to be there to take notes on the lecture. Sigmon did a good job switching from in-person lectures to prerecorded ones for ilearn during Covid.
Just completed his HIST 450 summer class about the History of California. 4 quizzes and 2 papers. Professor Sigmon is incredibly understanding of the current situation and will give ample extensions for the work. His lectures are informative, and he zones in on the meat and potatoes of the history. He is also quirky with his stories and openings!
Amazing Lectures. He is very understandable and will not let you fail his class and gives excuses for quizzes but need to have a good reason. Both papers super easy and gives you feedback but will not put you on blast on how you did your papers he grades based on effort and commitment.
Professor sigmon has to be the best prepared professor for this entire pandemic. this class is very easy because Mark cares about the subject he teaches about. he makes real connections to current events and makes history interesting. there is no homework and the tests are easy with the test Notes he provides. easy class 1 essay and a few quizzes.
Professor Sigmon was very understanding of student's circumstances during the pandemic and gave many extensions so people could pass the class. He has a great personality and covers many events in California history that I had not previously known about. Overall great class, and very easy to pass
Professor Sigmon gave wonderful online lectures - he was funny and interesting, and was very understanding about having to extend deadlines due to the challenges posed by online learning. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who needs to take a history course.
You can really tell that Sigmon cares about what he talks about. I really enjoyed the way he was able to relate history to what is happening now and how he would talk about current events. This is a super easy class as long as you watch the lectures and take notes. He gives you hints for every quiz and there are 2 papers.
Great professor, great person, great lectures. Take his class, you won't regret it.
I went into this class to meet a GE elective requirement, and after the first lecture I knew that he was going to be one of my favorite professor I've had. I didn't know much about History prior to this class, but I genuinely learned so much, and his lectures are super engaging! 10/10 recommend!!
I wasn't even officially in this class! My partner was but we would gather around the proverbial fire, have a nice dinner to listen to Grandpa's lectures. Excellent lecturer, made the material very accessible, interesting, and he was very informative. Only critique I might have is I wouldn't mind replacing the Doner party lecture.
Dr. Sigmon is an awesome history professor. All of my classes are online this semester, and even though my HIST450 class is asynchronous, Dr. Sigmon does an amazing job at making it feel personal. The lectures are genuinely interesting, he's got great stories, and it's clear that Sigmon truly wants us to succeed. Great guy. Wish I could've met him.
Professor Sigmon is by far one of the best teachers I've had at SFSU. He is very knowledgeable about the topics he teaches and always inserts funny stories throughout his lectures. Four tests, two papers. He will NOT let you fail as long as you try. Honestly bummed I couldn't take his class in person.
Professor Sigmon was a breath of fresh air during these horrible covid times! His lectures were enjoyable and he always discussed real world events before lectures. The book helps but his pre recorded lectures are information packed with everything you need! He definitely cares about his students as people above anything. Best class of my semester!
Prof. Sigmon is such a delight and one of the best professors I've ever had! Super bummed we couldn't meet in-person for this class. He makes history much more fun and interesting thanks to his engaging and entertaining lectures. Clearly cares a lot about his students, he will help you succeed if you ask, and always replies thoughtfully to emails.
This Professor is great, I took it online asynchronous and it good to take notes of the essays, read the textbook and the assigned books. He gives hints for the quizzes but it is good to go prepared.
I took Professor Sigmon's asynchronous class this past semester. I would say if you are considering this class, just be aware that there are a lot of long lectures. There are very few grades so as long as you do well on the tests you will do well in the class. I recommend focusing on his memory quizzes at the end of each lecture video for quizzes.
The type of guy that instantly puts a smile on your face.
He made me want to invest in learning more history. I cannot believe how invigorating his lectures are. Its almost as if you are there and having a conversation with him. Take his class if you want to learn and become an expert in history.
Mr. Sigmon is a remarkable man. He is sincerely interested in his work and has a very deep understanding and respect of the history of California. He has detailed notes that he sticks to, lesson plans that follow the quizes, and it covers the history of CA pretty comprehensively considering the time constraints.
Prof. Sigmon is an absolute gem! His lectures are not super long, and he is interested in how to keep his students engaged in the course. His homework is not difficult, nor his memory quizzes but you need to watch his lectures. If you are struggling he will be there to help you out, so don't be afraid to ask. Hist of Cal was one of my fav. courses!
As a transfer student Professor Sigmon made his online History class very easy and straightforward. He's an amazing person and I hope to be able to attend class in person in SF just to meet him. THANK YOU FOR BEING AN AMAZING TEACHER !!!
Hist 450 w/ Prof Sigmon is the most straightforward class, it's really hard to fail. Quizzes are simple, there's a midterm and final paper, and lecture vids are posted. Lectures were a little awkward because of class size, but he made it work and I still got a lot out of the class
I took an all online class which was very easy. As long as you do the quizzes and papers you will get an easy A. Keep in mind Professor Sigmon does take a while to email back however he's very considerate and super nice.
Amazing professor, super straightforward class with a clearly laid out grading criteria. I took his online class and it was a breeze, make sure you watch the lectures, he basically gives out answers to quiz questions so pay attention. His lectures are actually really interesting, he makes history actually bearable.
Easy to understand, know what's expected, syllabus and lectures literally point you to all the answers you need so you can focus on actually learning the material and just discussing/listening in lectures. Would def take again.
Mark is a very nice, funny, and caring professor. He loves his job and has a passion for history. His insight and stories help better understand these harder-to grasp subjects and make sure you're ready for each quiz and paper. Only 2 papers and the quizzes are all found in the lectures. One book is required and is a set of books for cheap.
10/10 would recommend this class if you need to fulfill any SF state requirements but arent a history major. he makes everything very digestible and his lectures are super interesting. the books help, but most of the test questions are from lectures so if you watch those youre good!
Super kind professor. I have never liked history and he's made me consider studying it. Asks interesting and thought provoking questions to start discussions. Spoke candidly about realities which I enjoyed and respected. Very easy to pass class with a low work load. Take him you won't regret it
Mark is an exceptional teacher and his teaching style is so engaging. I loved the class so much!! His lectures do not feel monotonous or boring at all. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches and it makes the student feel more immersed in the lecture. We did not have homework assignments, just quizzes at the end of sections and 2 papers :)
Mark was such an amazing professor!! I've honestly never enjoyed a history class until I took one with him. He's super supportive and understanding, and makes it easy for all of his students to do well in class. There's not many assignments (five mc quizzes, two essays) and he provides all the information and material needed to do well on these.
Professor Sigmon was an excellent lecturer and is passionate about what he teaches. He talks about sports, his family, his cat and I really liked that because it made him seem more like an actual person than just a teacher. Just watch the lectures and you'll be fine! They range from 30min to an hour so they are easy to get through!
Professor Sigmons class was very fun and engaging, he is a great lecturer and clearly cares about the material he is teaching. He is very understanding and does his best to make sure everyone in his class does well so as long as you pay attention and do the very few assignments he gives throughout the semester you can get an easy A.
He was very open-minded about topics. Lectures felt like a conversation which made it easy to focus. Easy online asynchronous class. Suggest creating your own notes to make it easier to refer back to during tests/quizzes, the ppt slides are useful but will be hard to jump tab to tab.
Simple straightforward class. Professor sigmon is very laid back and doesnt ask much of his students. Material is pretty interesting so show up and listen because he does take attendance. Four 100 point quizzes and two papers all with very clear criteria.
Professor Sigmon is awesome. To pass his class, try to attend the lectures and take notes! I repeat take notes. They are really important for the quizzes. Also, I am happy we didn't need to buy a textbook for this class. Overall, would take another class from him again.
One of my favorite professors at SFSU. If you have the chance to take him, please do! I wish he was my professor for everything. Overall, 10/10!
Professor Sigmon was a pretty good teacher. Attendance wasn't necessarily mandatory but he rewarded those who showed up with quiz answers or letting us know what specific questions were on the quiz. 4 online quizzes and 2 short papers with really no work in between.
EASIEST CLASS EVER only 2 essays and 5 small quizzes
Professor Sigmon is a great professor and easy going. The course is super laid back only has 2 papers and 5 quizzes that each have 10 questions. Class isn't mandatory but you should definitely go to class and listen to his interesting lectures.
Best professor ever! Second class i've taken with professor Sigmon, and honestly such a kind guy. His lectures are awesome so show up and he's so laid back. Clear criteria, 2 papers and five 100 point quizzes. His lectures are engaging and he's an awesome historian, definitely the class to take. His class peaked my interest in history!
His lectures are amazing, he is well informed and teaches in a way that is easy to understand. His quizzes may look intimidating but as long as you watch all the lecture videos you should be fine.
Lectures are rlly good and interesting, there were few for each unit but if you don't procrastinate (unlike me) it's all very doable. The tests that came along with the units are super simple as long as you know what was in the lectures. For the papers he also had multiple prompts to choose from and they were fun which was cool to have a choice.
You will survive this class without going to lecture, but they are so interesting and easy to listen to it is worth going purely for the mental break from other classes. Dr. Sigmon is very passionate and understanding and does his best to engage you without adding to your already heavy college workload. I can't recommend him enough.
refreshing takes on history! Although his class was asynchronous, he still put in the effort to record new lectures with up-to-date info about modern politics & international events. Quizzes and papers are also very easy. Very encouraging and straight-forward about criticisms without being mean
I really liked this class. you honestly learn so much since professor Sigmon is great at his job. lectures are long but nothing crazy, he's really funny too. four quizzes throughout the semester and two papers. you HAVE to watch the lectures in order to pass the quizzes or else you fail. really easy class tho, will for sure take him again!
Due to life stuff I've been finishing college for awhile (almost ten years lol). But I can confidently say this is the best professor I've had in that time. I was never a history person, but Prof. Sigmon's lectures were super interesting and engaging. Really sad to hear he's retiring soon. Lucky to have had him this Summer.
Professor Sigmon is an engaging lecturer who makes history come alive. With just a few quizzes and papers, the class is manageable. unstuckstudy AI was a helpful study tool alongside the free course materials.
Currently in this class right now. The class itself is not hard but the quizzes might be if you don't go to class or review the slides. Its honestly a pretty light class.
I took it online asynchronous it was a good class, I was able to learn a lot and the work is not overbearing.
