Great teacher. Gives very clear notes and also gives you sample midterms for you to look at beforehand. Not much surprise on the midterm with the exception of 1 or 2 things mentioned only in the text. Study the diagrams!!

I took 1190 a couple years ago, and i have to say it was one of my favorite classes. This is clear example in my books where the instructor makes the difference. I highly recommend him for this class!

If you need a science credit take his courses.. . straigtforward assignments, clear direction, and lots of help if you need it!! I found him very helpful. I'm not a strong science student but i did very very well in his class!!!

Wonderful professor. He doesn't try to trick you and makes the course as interesting as possible. Notes are very clear and exams are fairly easy, as long as you study the notes. He tries his best to make sure you understand the content (both lecture and lab). Highly recommended.

Mark is the best teacher I have ever had. He is actually my mentor. He inspired me to learn and love geology so much that I am in my 2nd year at UBC in Physical Geography. He writes very clear and detailed notes. If you need help he is always there, you just need to ask, definately not bad to look at either. Love Him! Great classes, great teacher.

Mark is very good, he is also very helpful. life after school is not full of people that will hold your hand, so get it straight. he is no baby sitter. lots of freedom and responsibilities. he will guide you and clearly explain details that you might find difficult (if you are going to rate your professor it helps if you can spell correctly) !?

Great teacher, Nice guy, high energy, definately not a hand holder, but warms up when you get to know him. In-class notes are superb - clear, no-nonsense material with great diagrams. SHOW UP in class and write all notes down, and you will do fine. Hope he has a new Lab assistant, when I had him last year, the assistant was not helpful at all.

Very nice, funny and helpful prof. Yet he is harsh on grammars in written assignments and exams. Yet if you bomb you mid-terms, hes willing to make "deals" with you ONLY IF YOU ASK. He has gorgous class nots, big and clear. The exam only has what he wrote on the board. Also, he usually give you the exam question before so you can study for it.

Smith writes very neat. he's quite knowledgeable about the subject. he's pretty relaxed and cheerful. he's prompt and efficient. the class is rather easy since since the lab exams are open book. Smith is enthusiastic in his own way. just don't make the mistake of thinking that the LECTURE/THEORY exam is OPEN BOOK TOO... :( my bad) Good luck!

Mark's great. I had him for a couple of classes and they were alot of fun. He keeps things interesting and he knows his stuff he's also really passionate about this subject. He is pretty anal on the grammar and can be nasty when he's pissed. (although talking during class is downright rude to begin with) Go to all classes cause the notes help ALOT

So far this is one of the best professors that i have had at langara. His lectures are very clear, he'll even draw pictures to clarify things better. I would definitely recommend this teacher to anyone!

He's a great teacher! It was a mandatory class and the subject for me isn't easy, but he made Geology a great experience - very interesting. I learned a lot from him. His class would be perfect if he'd just fire Nancy. She's got some serious issues. I don't know what it is, but she should look for another career - not a happy person - rude!

AWEESOME prof. never missed a class ever because he is just so interesting to listen to. memorize his notes, tests are right out of it. give the text a good read but dont have to. practice those labs over and over in class and after class. esp the identifying diff minerals and rocks.

Best Prof, by far, at Langara. Very passionate about rocks, and oddly enough, an inspiration. Most definitely a keeper: take his class. You won't regret it.

One of the best instructors I've ever had. This man is a true educator. I love his class and I love his style. He's so clear and he makes Geology even more interesting than it is in the first place. Mark is laid back, confident, and very knowledgeable. Wish I was going into his field so I could take more courses with him. Such a good guy!

Mark is my favourite teacher. He really wants you to do well and it shows in his lectures. His format is simple and there are no tricks. He usually gives clear outlines of what will be on the test which is great - he doesn't make you jump through hoops in order to get a good grade. I would recommend taking anything with him.

Loved having this guy! He's so filled with charisma and seems like he really enjoys teaching! At first I was pretty nervous about the course but it turned out to be one of my best. His notes are very detailed and I actually didn't use the text much! Tests are straight forward if you study. Overall hes a great guy! Put the work in and you'll be fine

He uses the textbook as a basis foundation for his lectures, but the exam material is on lectures. His labs are superbly easy. A fun and great prof to have and an amazing class. He has a striking resemblance to Hank Shrader from Breaking Bad

Mark is an interesting and very likeable prof. I would love to take more of his classes if I wanted to major in geology. The lab assistant Nancy is totally rude, unhappy, and unhelpful. Otherwise Mark was great!

Great instructor, if you have a chance take a class with him for sure! Material is interesting, exams are not too hard and he is incredibly helpful. He will spend lots of time reviewing anything you aren't sure about and will proofread assignments before you hand them in. GEOG 2290 was one of the best classes I've taken at Langara.

Lectures are easy to follow along, same for labs. He does a lot to give you all the time you need to really learn the lab material. Midterm was hard, final was easier. Lab exams were difficult but open book and still fair - no surprises on either! Draws lots of diagrams and likes watching movies in class.

Mark is a great instructor. He would like more class participation, but I think does not execute it well and instead gets mad at everybody for not knowing the answers to his questions. Every class is 2-3 pages of notes and you are graded on both the book (not a text) and the lecture notes. Would recommend.

Labs are straight forward. Mark pretty much lays out everything you need to write for the field trip essay. Exams can be tough, make sure you know your diagrams!

Mark was a great geology prof. The info focused more on the processes and there was no math to confuse me! The labs were fun and I felt like i actually understood the science. I highly recommend this class!

Mark is a great geography prof. No textbook needed, just attendance since he writes the notes along with the class. Slow and easy. I took this class with a friend as an elective. Ask questions, he's nice and understanding to your confusion. Didn't expect to enjoy this course as much as I did. This unexpectedly became my gpa booster.

Mark went so far out of his way to help us succeed. He sacrificed his own time to invigilate accessibility labs for some of us and he made lots of help available outside of class, including emailing us the text in pdf. He does everything to make sure you actually learn the material - do your part, study, and you will do well!

Mark is a nice guy and presents the material in a really accessible way for beginners/non-science majors. No d2L use so if you aren't actually in class and taking notes you are in trouble. Labs are fun . Only thing I dislike is that the grades are entirely based on tests so if you tend to crack under pressure like me it can be pretty stressful.

He is such an amazing person. One of the best professors at Langara. If you are looking for good grades or completing credits, go for his classes. He is a lenient marker. His papers are based on his notes and he do things in your favour by changing grading criteria when needed.

Mark is a literal angel for online classes he gives you the entire textbook online and bases his exams and quizzes on it.

GPA booster no matter you are an international student or a domestic student. One midterm, one lecture quiz and lab quiz per week, and a final. All answers can find on his notes. Only listen on his lab, lecture can be chilling. Promise you will have between B+ to A. Can't ask for any better that him.

GPA Booster guys. I was on my phone the whole term and I got A at the end. 1 lecture quiz and 1 lab quiz every week, but there are only 2 yes or no questions on each quiz. 1 lecture midterm and 1 lab midterm only. Read the notes and answer the questions and you will get good grade. He is very nice and he tried his best to give us the highest grade

Mark is one of the best teacher Ive had. He cares for his students and goes out of his way to make sure you get a good grade. This semester he switched the quiz grade (10%) for the midterm exam grade (25%) because the students did better on the quiz. Hes written me recommendation letters and helped me for other geography classes. Take the class!

Geology has never been so clear and funny. This professor is simply great! He helps students as much as he can. He states clear criteria and he tries to explain what is important. In addition, he gives bonus marks if you participate in online lectures. The Final exam was really easy because he said what we had to study. Amazing professor!

AMAZING. FAV TEACHER AT LANGARA. knows how to teach!!!! unlike others with powerpoint, he ACTUALLY teaches!!!! i originally took this course for science credits but i was genuinely interested by the end. 100% recommend.

Such a great prof!!! If you show up and take notes on everything he writes on the board, then that's exactly what you can expect on the tests and nothing more. He really provides you with everything you need and wants you to succeed! I would have him as my prof for every class if that was possible

His classroom atmosphere is very active and he often tells interesting teaching stories. There are many contents in his lecture so you have to take notes. Exam questions are all notes from what he writes on the whiteboard during the lecture. Near the end of term, he would take a field trip which is quite interesting.

He's a pretty straightforward guy. His tests are all based on the lecture notes that he usually provides. He's really understanding. He is incredibly smart and has a great memory.

Mark was a great professor for GEOL1110. His in-person lectures were engaging and informative. Midterm/final exam focused on the lecture notes that he writes on the whiteboard and they were very fair tests. He prepares you for the final with a guide. Labs were focused on rock/mineral identification. He really cares about his students' success.

Mark is so great! Super nice and clearly is passionate about Geology. I hope that he actually gets some students who want to become geologists because he is such an interesting and good prof. Recommend him HIGHLY>

Mark explained everything very well and is more than willing to go out of his way to help you understand something if you are struggling. 90% of the course grade was tied up in 4 exams, but the questions were all very fair and he makes sure to tell you exactly what is going to be on them ahead of time

Mark's class was so fun, I never thought I'd be as interested in geology as I was, and I 100% think it's because of his teaching. He's so knowledgeable and made the material really digestible. As long as you study, go to lectures and take notes, you will do well. A lot of the comments about marking are not accurate, he's pretty lenient on wording.
