Straightforward take home tests (2 page essays), one map quiz you prepare for weeks ahead of time, one book review he'll edit ahead of time, and easy quizzes online. Grade inflation like crazy and really cool guy.. knows his stuff.
I agree with the previous rating, he definitely inflates grades like crazy. He has a good sense of humor. But my only problem is that he generalizes too much. So if you really want to learn history, don't take him.
The best teacher I've come across so far. test are easy, lectures good and u do 1 group assignment. SO EASY!
Altogether a very strong presentation, and a very understanding instructor.
The best teacher I've had at chabot so far. He definitely knows his stuff, and usually the classes are boring but he tries to make history entertaining. No midterm, just an easy final and a group project. I definitely recommend him!!
I think I learned more from his class then from all my other history classes put together. Really helped me understand other classes and puts history in context. Very very interesting and hilarious teacher!!
He really knew how to keep us intrested in history.
I LOVED THIS TEACHER! HE IS GREAT! VERY SMART, INSIGHTFUL, AND VERY FUNNY WITH HISTORY. HE MAKES YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PAST AND MAKES IT FUN TO LEARN. HE IS NOT HARD ON YOU AT ALL, ESPECIALLY IF YOU TRY. HE HAS A GOOD HEART AND I JUST LOVED BEING IN HIS CLASS. I WISH HE TAUGHT EVERY HISTORY CLASS I HAVE TO TAKE!
he is the best history teacher ever.........all u ve to do is just kisten to what he says and never cheat.....den u get an A+++++++++++
Mr. Stephens is probably the best teacher I've had in 5 years. You will NOT regret taking his class.
If not the best definitely one of the best history teachers at Chabot. He keeps the class interesting and if you come to class everyday with an open mind you will learn a lot. The class is extremley easy and if you get anything lower than an B in his class then you just were not trying or you got caught cheating. Also he is hilarious!!!
He's a great teacher.Lectures are a little boring if your not into history, which I'm not at all.He really really tries to make it interesting. All assignments are explained very clearly.Tests are not hard(3).Quizzes are easy too if you read the book(daily short answer on given reading). He's very understanding, leinent and can even make you laugh.
Students need more instructors like Mr. Stephens. He makes the subject of history fun to learn! Do the assigned work and you'll get nothing less than an A!
mr.stephens is a very nice teacher and he is very helpful you will pass his class becuase he gives you so much oppurtunity and extra credit work to pass
amazing teacher, really funny. loves history, explains things really clearly. tests are super easy, just read the text and u will do well in his class.
Arguably one of the best history teacher at Chabot. He is passionate about history and uses real life examples to explain everyting a lot clearer. His sense of humor makes his lectures a lot interesting as well. As long as you do the reading and do the maps/book project, there is no way to fail his class.
I have had Mr. Stephens for every semester I have been at Chabot. My favorite! Although history is my major, Mr. Stephens really inspired me to be a professor. Have taken his History 1, 2,3, and 4 w/ him. He truly generates the class so that you can do well in it. Just do all the work and there is no reason why you should not be able to get an A/B
he is such a nice teacher! he really tries to make history interesting and he's really fun! He has quizzes on chapters but they are really easy, you can pick the question you want to answer. and he gives you the questions for the midterm so its really easy! HE IS SO COOL!
He is very energetic and a great teacher. He is good at making history fun. There is a lot of work in the class, and a lot of reading. One oral group presentation too. VERY EASY class IF you do the work and the reading! He genuinely cares about his students, I'd gladly spend another semester in one of his classes!
Prof. Stephens is the best. You have to read the boring textbook to understand the quizzes, but Prof. Stephens is nowhere near as boring as the textbook. Hes fun and entertaining. For the Midterms and Final, its THE EASIEST EVER! TRUST ME YOU WANT HIM as your HISTORY TEACHER!
One of the best professors! I love this man, so funny. His jokes are hilarious! Pretty easy class, but YOU DO LEARN! Must read text for quizzes Papers are pretty easy, 1-2 pages. Attendance mandatory. There is a group book project (& presentation), which was not as easy but doable. Not too tough on grading, but cares about his students. Take him!
GREAT CLASS! He's frickin' hilarious! I enjoyed just about every class I went to. He does a quiz about text book reading at the beginning of the week which totals to 15% of your grade, so you kinda have to read. Exams are extremely easy. You MUST read the book you choose or you will likely fail (he will make sure you read it). Not a lot of EC.
I took his History 1 class and now his History 2 class. He is by far the best Hist teacher out there! Easy "A" class IF you do the work and show up (though I got a B this time after missing a big assignment.. hey I had a kid!). 1 group oral presentation, he is funny, energetic, and a great person. TAKE HIS CLASS, you WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Coursework includes reading a chapter a week and an easy quiz. Book and book report are also assigned. Lots of lecture and discussion. Prof is very passionate about history and make it fun for students. There is no way to fail this class because Mr. Stephens makes learning history easy.
Mr. Stephens is the man..His class is easy if you do the work..you have to read because he has a quiz at the beginning of each week..he makes history fun and is pretty easy on the grading..if you show up pay attention and put some effort into your work its an easy A
Mr. Stephens is the bomb!! He's hilarious and he is passionate about History. We had a quiz every week, but he lets you choose 1 of 4 possible questions to answer. Only big project is a separate book summary/review. Other than that, best history class I've ever taken. I love his HIST. 2 class so much that I'm taking his HIST. 1 class next semester.
Think of a happy Santa Claus teaching history. I landed an A by doing the bare minimum (e.g. skimming the weekly readings). However, I admire his passion and ability to teach. He relates new concepts to our experiences extremely well. Other teachers lecture out of the book, but Stephens paints pictures and makes you laugh. Very memorable class!
The best professor of all time. You will not regret taking his class. Not only is the work do-able, but you start to see history from a different but very interesting(also humorously) presented. He keeps you engaged and brings in new perspectives. He's well-versed in military tactics in history. So be sure to ask him lots of military questions!
Stephens is an awesome teacher! He teaches history how it should be taught, like a story. He gets into great detail, he gives out study guides with everything that is on the tests. GREAT TEACHER!
The grading and assignments are clear and not difficult to understand. He is an entertaining lecturer. His class is this: chapter quizzes at two points each. Two midterms and one final. The terms he gives in advance to study and essay is take home. A book review and presentation. I read my presentation and got an A. Attendance is ten points. Easy A.
Great teacher and is very interesting. To a previous comment...This is college so in an essay your grammar should be correct. He is always there for office hours to help you if you need it. His class is very easy to get a good grade in. Just show up, pay attention and read book.
Sweet and lovely man. Passionate about his subject and you can tell he really enjoys teaching. I feel guilty every week for not reading (and pretending to) in his class. Everything is easy, for the most part. He requires a book summary, which is tedious, but not hard in the slightest. Take him for sure if you need electives.
I had Mr. Stephens a few years back. He was alright. At times the work can pile up but he was rather easy still. You just had to do the work. He has a group book report/presentation at the end. He's also a veteran and a hilarious man! His stories are cool too.
GREAT!!! His lectures are interesting and he is really funny. There is a lot of reading involved, but nothing too horrible. He is really nice and there is only one paper and tests are pretty simple if you read. I highly recommend him!
Easy A but you have to put up with a lot of ego and rambling stories. If you want an easy class and more time to focus on your other classes, this is the class to take.
Very fair, and very interesting. I loved his stories. =)
You have one book project that he gives you literally the whole semester to work on. You have to read before every class but not anymore than another history class, and if you take notes during lecture, you will pass every midterm. He even gives you the questions to the midterm beforehand so there is no way to fail them. Easy A and good teacher.
I don't get what all the hype is about this teacher. The dragged out stories that didn't relate to the topic, the meaningless tests, and the book reports on books that interest him and not the students left much to be desired. As others said, easy A, but I'd avoid this prof if you really want to learn something. He's also often distracted.
What a great and fun teacher. Recommended to anyone that thinks the History subject is very dry and boring because you will have a blast in his class. I never got into the History side of anything (failed in High School) and did amazing in his class. Just be on time to his class, ready to take a quiz, and with a very fun attitude and you'll pass.
An awesome teacher who will question on the class on the subject of history.he makes you think. i suggest him completely. but be prepared to read a chapter before class..there will be a quiz
Extremely knowledgeable and fantastic professor. Challenges you to think not only about history, but also at the examination of your own life. I learned not only about history, but many life lessons as well. Like he says on the first day, if you show up and do the work you will get an A. Great teacher and amazing class! Be on time to class though.
I really enjoy him as a history teacher. One of the best ive had at Chabot. One downer is, this is basically a reading course, and i am not a reader. I read the textbook but, i barely read the outside book that he had us read. Other than that, this teacher is AWESOME.
Very easy teacher and very nice. The biggest assignment in his class was one book report.
One of the best professors are Chabot. Homework is reading the chapter before class, and there's only one major assignment which is a book review. Study for the tests and you'll get an A+.
Professor Stephens is the one who actually told me about this website lol... He is an amazing professor and easy A. Only homework is reading the textbook which is not boring at all. He then goes over the chapter in class and gives recent info to help understand major concepts. AMAZING AND WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE COURSE AGAIN.
Mr. Stephens is a very inspirational professor, who made me truly interested in History. His lectures are always very interesting and fun. He makes you think outside of the box. His class is not hard at all if you show up to class. I would definitely recommend. Also, he is a veteran and has a great sense of humor.
I really liked how he utilized the text. He had the class read just about each chapter. His writing assignments all came from the textbook, and they were pretty cool questions. I also liked how he set up the quizzes. A great professor with interesting, writing assignments! Read the chapters, show up, study ,and you get an A
He is an excellent teacher, I use to hate history but after this class I began appreciating it a lot more. His papers aren't long but there many times throughout the semester where you will be writing short essays. He is very nice and funny and explains the subject matter well. His class is fairly easy to pass as long as you do the work.
Mark Stephens makes makes history fun! He's a veteran, and his military experience is an asset to his teaching. There are weekly readings and a weekly quiz to do. There is a lot to read so do it as early as possible. His tests are easy though.
Offers a sense of superiority in his lectures to younger audiences; if ever posed with challenging questions that he might be misinformed of, tends to get him upset. Often times, will deviate from existing book content and not admit when his lecture could be wrong based on specific book information. Is easily angered, and wont hesitate to show it.
Loved this class! He's a great teacher and an easy grader! His lectures are long and he may digress from the topics covered in the book at times, but his lectures are very entertaining! The quizzes are not difficult as long as you read the assigned chapters in the book :)
Overall, Mr. Stephens is a great professor, he's always there to help. Every week he gives a new chapter to read, but this semester he assigned chapter quizzes online on Pearson. There's a book review & summary, and also a midterm essay for writing. There are only two major tests, midterm and final, but he also has pop quizzes in class. Good luck!
Awesome teacher, great class, interesting material. I would take every class he taught if I had the time!
I love Mark Stephens. He is an entertaining guy but his class is boring only because the topic of history is quite boring(for me at least). He is a easy grader but most of the work is tedious. Every class has to do a book report which is the class's biggest assignment. Weekly quizzes based on chapters as well. Definitely recommend
Great professor did his best to make boring material fun. One big book report, followed by a group project. Easy grader, overall an easy A. But if you're interested in a hard class where you will learn and improve on history this is not the class
He is the best history teacher since my Freshman high school teacher. He is funny, knows his stuff. He doesn't require more out of you then necessary and is willing to get you excited about US History (which is kind dry for me) but after this class I'm interested. He really opened my mind. Thanks
!! TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR HISTORY EASY A!! may look scary/strict but total opposite Stephens is a funny caring guy, quizzes every first class session of the week as long as you read you will pass. Tests questions are given out. and the essay portion is take home. quizzes on first class session of the week.
OVERAL an awesome professor. he basically gives you the questions to the exams and you are just supposed to find the dates and identifications and memorize it. the test is only 10 questions, grades book review heavily and that's about it. easy A CLASS. lecture are sometimes dry. he just talks in class, no slides or powerpoint lectures.
Prof. Stephens was willing to do whatever it takes to help his students pass as long as they did the work. He will let you make up anything with a small deduction until what he calls a "St. Peter Day."
Learn life lessons while learning history. Professor Stephens makes the history of ancient times relatable to us modern humans. Read a book, read a textbook, do a group presentation on the book, 3 exams, weekly (1) question quizes, write a paper on the book, and that's it.
Overall awesome teacher. Super straight forward with everything that is expected of you. He incorporates life advice into his lectures. His study guides are exactly the same as tests. You have to read a book and write a lot of short papers but honestly, as long as you try your best you'll ace the class. Take his class!!
Professor Stephens is very straight-forward in regards to homework, quizzes, and exams. It's not hard materials, but definitely study. You won't regret it. A lot of reading (textbook and individual group book) and one quiz per week. Heavy lectures and he's brutally honest, so don't find him offensive.
Best teacher to ever step foot at Chabot.
Show up prepared and participate in class and you should do fine. Easy A if you stay ahead and put in a pretty good effort. Not very difficult, but a bit of work. Gives plenty of time and heads up before quizzes and test.
There were a lot of quizzes (one every week) based on the textbook, so you do need to read a lot, but the exams were half memorization of important events and half a take-home essay so they weren't too hard to score high. His lectures were amazing and funny, and made learning history a lot more fun than I had expected.
Such a fun and charismatic Professor. Definitely made learning about history interesting and entertaining. There's weekly quizzes on the textbook reading and only a few assignments. Very understanding teacher and is generous on grading work. Make sure you read for the quizzes and turn in assignments on time, you'll definitely pass with an A.
Mr Phillips is the best teacher at Chabot! I learned so much about history from him and how to really appreciate the past.
Stephens is really funny and he clearly cares about History. Often times his lectures go off topic, but it's not too bad. He gives small quizzes to test if you read the chapter in your textbook. He's an easy grader, and the only somewhat tough assignment is perhaps the book report. You have a group project where he makes you read a history novel.
Stephens is the best history teacher i have ever had in my whole entire life! He made history funny and entertaining. I have never been a history person ever but this was a class i enjoyed taking. He is a very easy grader too! You just need to read a chapter every week and take a really simple quiz. As long as you read it, you will get your points!
If there is one thing this professor is best at it is going off tangent during lectures about his stories that have little to no correlation to our course material. I had to remind myself each time that I was in History and not my therapists office. Please take into consideration positive and negative factors, periodt.
Mr. Stephens is a great professor. He cares not only about his students but also about the subject that he is teaching. His lectures are thorough, and if you pay attention and provide feedback during the lectures, you will learn a lot & makes history interesting. Available for questions after class and will work with you if you need to miss a class
professor Stephens is the most chill professor I've ever had. you have quizzes once a week based on the chapter, but you only have to do 1 question out of the 4 to get full credit, and his test are only 10 questions that he gives a study guide for that directly off the exam. you can get your answers for the exam checked by him 5min before class.
Professor Stephens is an amazing professor! has great humor and overall just a great academic who loves and knows history. The class was easy with no everyday work assigned and easy tests. He only assigned a few papers to do which he graded easily.
His class is easy, but is hard to follow. Only have 4 assignments during the semester. You must get 100 percent in all the assignments to pass with an A. You have a book report which is okay. As long as you turn in your work, you will pass the class. He is a really boring teacher. Overall, he is chill, but would not take him again.
Prof. Stephens is great! He does make you read A LOT. But, its not so bad. Hes funny. And he really does want you to pass. So hell do what he can to help you along the right path. He can be lenient as well. Overall really good professor. Lectures (in class) were definitely not boring. Will be taking my third history class with him soon.
Professor Stephen is interesting to say the least. It's not good to compare him to my other professors, but there are times when he seems disorganised and unclear when explaining things. He also doesn't give too much helpful advice when he explains an assignment and then goes off topic for a bit. He's not the worst professor, but also not the best.
Prof. Stephens is a really cool teacher. His class is really easy and assignments are short quizzes based on the reading chapters that aren't too difficult. The only other assignment is a book report based on a historical book that you choose at beginning of the semester. He does tend to ramble and go off-topic during lecture, but the class is easy
I took his class thinking it was going to be easy because of the rating but its more like your taking an English class. Goes off topic doesnt really explains assignments. Their is took much reading and in the last week of class for finals he assigned 2 essays with pointless questions. BEWARE.
Professor Stephens is great! Very knowledgable. You do have to do a few essays, the finals are 2 essays. Pick a novel to read and you have to make summaries and notes which help for the big essay about the book. Have to watch a few lecture videos for marks but relevant to course. Pay attention to his instructions and deadlines and you are good!
Hes a good guy, he's funny and relatable. He also knows ALOT about history and he's really chill. I really didn't like his homework, he would assign reading every week and quizzes, all of its online and graded online. the quizzes would be pretty hard, and frustrating. he also gave essays. besides the homework It wasn't a bad class. good guy
One of the best classes I've taken in Chabot so far as a newcomer. Essays are the exams, depending on how the class is you'll have to write either one essay or two essays for the final (so hope you end up in a well-mannered class), but the biggest assignment really is a group book project.
Great Professor. Expect a lot of work that is manageable because it is very very clearly designated to you at the beginning of the semester. You will have a lot of reading but you will learn a ton from his lectures. If you actually care about learning the subject he is very available and helpful outside of class. I learned a ton from him.
Prof. Stephen's class was easy in terms of assignments and exams. However, his lectures were pretty boring and often would stray away from the main topic he was discussing.
this class required a lot of reading and writing. you should honestly treat it like an english class — one chapter from textbook a week, quizzes on it, 5 paragraph essays every 2-3 weeks, two essays for final + a book and notes which you have a couple months to finish. be aware of the workload you're signing yourself up for!
Very well-spoken but possibly the most boring lectures that usually strayed away from the source material. Attendance is mandatory but does not feel like it as all of the work is online. Does not accept late work period. In class he rambles about things that won't help you pass. If you enjoy teaching yourself this is for you. Would not recommend.
Prof Stephens was a really nice and hilarious professor. I did have to spend $70 for the website/textbook we used for our at home assignments. Along with the textbook, we have to read an entire book, write summaries on it, a book review, and a group project based off of it. All the assignments are homework and he just lectures in class.
Quizzes every week based on textbook chapters and a multi-step group reading project, so a lot of reading in general. Three essays in place of tests, which are fairly easy. He just kind of talks at you during lecture, but the lectures aren't bad or boring by any means since he's a pretty funny guy.
Professor Stephens made learning fun in class when he go over lectures. He's a funny and a kind professor to all of his students, he also cared and was supportive for students to pass the class. He was very understanding to me when I told him the issue that I wasn't able to purchase a textbook for the class on MacMillan online.
