Professor Stevenson is one of the worst professors i have ever had. He does a terrible job of explaining everything. If he explains it at all. He also grades extremely hard and will mark everything done he can.
if you are in this class, NOT KIDDING get OUT WHILE YOU CAN!! He's always late, isn't very helpful in answering questions.. dosen't prepare you well for his tests, which are very hard, and he's very picky about grading. The list goes on and on...
If you want to learn a subject well, take Prof. Stevenson. It is true that he is Very Picky on grading, but if you complete the hw assigned and attend lectures regularly, you will do well. He did not assign any more hw than most professors.
One of the truly great teachers I’ve had. Do not expect his class to be easy. You will work but you will learn. Attend all the classes, do all the homework, and participate in class and you will do just fine.
Mark is a great teacher. I took his class online a few semesters ago and am very surprised to see the negative comments from some here. He was very helpful and always available to our class. He does expect things to be done on time, so dont slack off. Highly Recommend!!
Not a very helpful guy. Consistantly late for class. Unclear about what he expected from students. Tests included material that was not covered in class. He is unapproachable and rude. Even if you were interested in the course, your interest is lost completely. VERY disappointing.

i am a guest student from a local university, and i have never takena professor that has been as cocky and knit-picky as this one. i have an amazing tutor who has been helping me make sense of this class, but it's terrible that this professor forces you to solve problems his way and ONLY his way.

This professor is 5-10 min late to every class. Then he will try to hold you after class for longer. Very unclear teaching methods and a anal grader. Will not aquadately prepare you for the tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! This class killed my GPA!

such a bad teacher, it is unbelievable. absolutely the worst, if you have him, tranfer immediately, teaches you one thing, and means another. if you do something correctly on the test, he will mark you down if it is right, but not his way, you will get marked down alot. get out!!!
I went into this class expecting him to be horrible from these comments. Trithfully if you just apply yourself he is a great teacher. He makes sure you understand everything and always is there to help.

If you hate math and have to take a Stats class, do not take it with this professor. he's always late to class and will keep you afterward. he jumps from one topic to another, and is not clear in his lectures, and his tests are hard! so be prepared to do a TON of work and studying!

He is not that bad guys, this is college, get used to the work. It's your education and he's just making sure your getting what you paid for. If your looking for an easy way out, find another teacher. He is serious about the way he wants things done on the test. Overall he is fair, no doubt.
This teacher wants things to be a specific way, ways that many tutors i've seen say don't matter. if it weren't for his absolute anal ways i'd have passed. You see many people drop this class as the sememsester goes on. He does have many worksheets prepared to help you with the material which can be very helpful!
Horrible. He wants you to dot every i and cross every t. their was only 3 people left in my class after taking it. dont have him as an teacher its not worth spending the money.
Wouldn't recommend taking this Prof. Doesn't compromise & very tough/hard grader (HIS way or the highway - but isn't very clear) ALWAYS LATE to class, then tries to keep you later. Some tests, few quizzes, & group project. My advice, if you have him, transfer, if you can't, go to study classes (only way to make it.) This coming from an A student.
be careful with this guy. he's a hard teacher and doesn't like to slow down for anything. i achieved an A- from him by studying all the tests and reviews of every chapter we covered and redueing any handouts. keep up on the assignments and review everyday.
He made me move from another desk, claiming it was a room issue (Room E-106) but there was another heavyset person sitting in the same spot but in the next row over!!! Other than that, its like being in kindergarden when he teaches.

His class was so helpful. I HATE math, and was so willing to help me understand that math is not so hard. I got an A+ (4.0) in this class!!! I have never in my life gotten such an amazing grade. I would really recommend this teacher if you have difficulties in math like me.

Anal to the highest degree. You can have a right answer on a test and show work and still get points off because it isn't how he wants to see it. He shows up consistantly late to class and doesn't hand out assignments until after the class period is supposed to be finished. Unless you want a frustrating experience in a math class, avoid this man.
Worst teacher!!! Fell asleep and wondered why we didnt finish out in class homework... hmm wonder why, we couldnt ask him any questions. Always late! Very rude, and by the end of the semester there were 6 people left in our class. He kept saying, if you dont think you going to pass then drop it now... great i feel beter about my self now... blah

ALWAYS late. He is very specific in his grading. You need to write each answer EXACTLY as he would or it is wrong. If you can stop thinking for yourself and think like him you will be fine. Our class went from 18 to 6!
The work was easy, he helped a lot. Just do things his way and you'll pass, no problem. I hate math and got and A on every test. Tests are so easy. Just stick with him.

This is the most lazy teacher I have ever had in my life. I cant believe he still has a job. He would give us time to do our homework in class and he would disappear for 30 min. Absolutley terrible
Very specific in what he expects in answers, yet not in class enough to explain what he's looking for. I have been sitting in the classroom for an hour now waiting for him to return on the day before the test and we still have material to cover before the test... where he is no one knows, but he is a nice guy unless you don't ask questions.

I was very unhappy with this instructor. I am not afraid of hard work & I got a good grade, but he was unprofessional. He was late to class every day, once had the wrong lecture prepared, & grading was not impartial. We were behind all term and rushing at the end. We were lectured on material immediately before the final & it was on the exam.
He should never teach. his graiding is unfair, he was never prepeared, did not know how to help students, his tests were very long and hard, nobody was satisied and everybody was compleing all the time. do not take him. he is the wort choice. i think he is the worst even though math is my major.
Teacher hovers at your desk as you work on problems on the board (pet peeve of mine, I will never do the problems correctly with a hovercraft in range ;o) . He is never prepared and tedious in his lecturing.
If you enjoy taking Calc 2 enough to at least take it once more with another prof after failing it under his instruction, then Stevenson is your man! SO ANAL when it comes down to the work involved with solving the problem. AVOID IF YOU CAN! Is incredibly anal even once you get the right answer after not showing all the work.
i think he's wonderful!! the best math teacher i've ever had prolly. not too many notes, and more then enough examples in class. i signed up to have him again next term cuz i did so well in his class after being out of school for 2 years.
I took the statistic class for the fall 2006. His class was not easy. He said so at the beginning of the class. You have to follow every single steps that he did in the examples. His examples were clear. He repeated some key points for the problems over and over again. I got an A from this class because I followed every single steps that he needed

The worst teacher that i have ever had.He is never prepared, always late and then he keeps you after. Over half the class has dropped.He gives good examples but he puts stuff on the test that you haven't gone over.He won;t give any leeway for any reason. Avoid taking him at all costs.
When you asked questions, he would either avoid it, or tell you to look at an example. He doesn't really tell you what will be on the test, just to "look over everything." Not really much of a help at all, definitely not helping my grade. He makes you feel stupid if you don't understand something and ask about it. No curves on tests at all. :(
Didn't find Stevenson all that helpful. My advice would be to take him as last resort. He spends way too much time in class talking about irrelevant subjects.
Stevenson can be condescending and downright arrogant at times. He sits on a high horse. I didn't think he was all that. He gives some helpful material, but not enough to pass the class unless you are mathematically and graphically inclined and do all hw to a tee.

what an anal prick this guy is. He blows you off when you try to help him. When the class is struggling he doesnt compromise. If you dont cross your t's and dot your i's he takes off MAJOR points. Attendence is mandatory. I had a tutor in this class and worked my ass off and i still failed it. when i asked for help he told me to drop it.
Hes a very hard teacher, thinks hes funny, if your not good at math and you take him, you might as well go sit on a stick, thats how its going to feel when your done taken this class IF you finish
I'm surprised at all the bad reviews-- I think this teach is great! He makes things really clear, and makes sure he doesn't lose his students. I'd take another class w/him. Only bad quality is that he's VERY anal about marking down for little things like exact terminology, units, labeling.
I don't know what people are talking about. He is hard, seriously. But, if you go to class and do everything he asks you can do it. He is clear and reasonable. Overall good teacher!!

I actually liked him. I had to drop the class though because i just had to much on my plate. He does give graded homework which is a plus and if you do the work and show up for class you will have no problem.

A good guy, and good teacher, but VERY HARD. He will make it so you excel in your next class, if you can get through his. I tried pretty hard and still had to drop. Expect a 2/10 on a test problem if you don't put down all the details he wants. He teaches as though you are a student in a high up private school, such as Harvard or Prinsceton.
Never have I cried over a class. This class was a nightmare. He talks down to students if he has to explain something 2x. Always late but takes attendance. Overall I comprehended the subject but my work was marked down so severly for miniscule reasons, I was doomed. I dropped and am retaking w/ another prof. I'm 45 yrs old and a 4.0 student.

Take his class if you like dropping classes. Half the time he was explaining something, everyone was lost. He accused me of cheating on a test that I FAILED. When I failed the next one, I thought I was doing something wrong but noticed everyone around me failed. By the last test it seemed 2/3 of the class was gone. I didn't even take the exam...

HARDEST CLASS IVE EVER TAKEN!!! agree with all of the negatives he got from other raters here. he seriosuly had me saying "isnt this OCC???" i go to a college twenty times harder than a community school, and this guy is rediculous. i dropped...so did 3/4 of the kids there.

At first i thought i liked him but as the semester is continuining on he is becoming more and more annoying to me. He grades tests unfairly, and is so anal about everything. He made a rule about no cell phones and if he sees us hes going to ask us to leave class for the rest of the day and if we dont hes going to call campus security!

Absolutely horrible. I'm a 3.8 student, & took his class as a refresher. I ended up literally failing the first three tests. His teaching is unclear, he will mark you down 8 points for a problem you got right because you did it different then him, and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Blames the whole class when literally 80% is failing

AWFUL! He spent more time in class ranting & raving about his daughter getting into MIT than actually lecturing. HARSH grader, expects you to write word for word what he would, if not minus 27. Im awesome in math, took this class in hs & got an A,but didnt take AP so i didnt get college credit, I struggled to barely get a C in his class...
By far the worst teacher I have ever had in my college career. Doesnt explain anything, every question you ask is a dumb question and he "doesnt have time to answer them". Tests were so hard. Out of 25 people at least 15 dropped.. and of those remaining i no 7 did not pass. Horrible horrible teacher. Waste of time and money.
I was the Asian kid on the M & W classes at 2. Already knew this stuff from middle school. First test I got 90%. Expects little details or you get points off. 30 ppl to start and less than 15 now. Always talks about random stuff. Tries to make math jokes. Says the randomest things. Decent teacher. Not hard for me. Just partner up in class.
I took this class online, which made it all the more difficult. He requires weekly check-ins and you have to let him know about your questions/concerns, but he NEVER responds! I don't even think he reads them. He posted videos towards the end, those were helpful. Not the greatest online experience I've ever had. I'd give him a B- for teaching.
Please DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! he says that you can ask questions, but when you do he tells you to wait until after class. He is useless and always late, he focuses on story problems and if you don't get ALL of them right there is no way that you can pass his test. Half of the class droped mid way through.
I usually get an A in all classes. I attended every single class, did hw, went to him in math lab, studied and could not get higher than a D. work was easy he made it so much harder than it was. I learned more by just reading the lesson myself. i had 2 take again online and got a d+ with same teacher! worse teacher ive ever had in my life!
I am not a math person and this is the first time I have enjoyed a math class. It is extremely difficult, but I think it's good to be expected to perform; you will be in the "real world." Stevenson prints handouts and walks the class through the whole problem and procedure, which really helps in understanding the problem and what he expects.
OMG...He enjoy's watching you fail...he showed us how the last exam how all his classes score a 60% average...not cool...he is always 20 minutes late to his 30 min office hour, late for class all the time...try to get another teacher
He is the worst teacher! I took his class on-line b/c I have such a full schedule. The schedule says to do a project Mon-Fri but he doesn't post it til Thur @ 11pm! You can take off site exams but you have to have a proctor and he sends them the test. 3 times I've had to call him and ask for my test because he is 1/2 hour to an hour late w/my test.
More than half of the class has dropped, including myself. Not very helpful, responsive or approachable. Seems as if this on-line course is designed for the student to fail. Too bad-Stevenson is supposed to be an educator, but he's more like an antagonizer. Waste of money and a discredit to OCC's reputation.
Great teacher. Late to office hours but will stay after class to help. Takes personal interest in how students are doing in the class. He challenges you but if you are comlpletely stumped he will always help. He has dry math humor but at least he tries. Do the work and pay attention and you'll pass. Don't take him if you are lazy.
At first I was very discouraged. This is not an easy class. Prof. Stevenson encouraged me to keep trying. Once he explained the material it became a lot clearer. He's very patient and helpful. He emphasized solving the problems in steps, which helped me organize my work better. Great instructor!
took this guy already. was amused by the responses. stevenson is the archetype "fill in blank" teacher. too cool for school, obsessed with himself, and ultimately an obstacle to your degree. he's also chronically late. late to every class by 15-20 min at least. lectures are like something he pulls out of thin air sometimes
One of the WORST professor's I have ever had. He is always late and never responds to your questions outside of class. I am on the deans list at my university and am taking this over the summer, my only failing grade in college
Took this as pass / fail during the summer to obtain credits for U of M, and still found it extremely challenging. There were 36 students on the first day and only 19 left after the twelve weeks were up. He is chronically late and unhelpful. Tests vaguely resemble the material covered, but much more difficult. Rarely gives straightforward answers.
i truly cant believe all the negative comments posted about this teacher. He CLEARLY states what he expects form his students and how to get good grades in his class. note however you need to literally write down what he writes in his notes because that is the type of work he expects you to do on his test
WORST TEACHER EVER. I had to retake his class, even though I am a 3.8 student. HARSH grader, marks you down for everything you do that is not exactly like he would do it. My second time, I took it online and even though I told him where and when I would be taking the test days in advance, it still took over 4 hours each time to receive the test!
What the previous MAT 1580 student said was 100%. I would NOT rec. him to anyone. Hes a cool guy, but as a teacher, nooo. Lets just say if I had him again teaching a different class, I would do everything in my power to swich.
Stevenson is a tough professor. He excepts a lot out of his students and grades very hard on exams. Have to do exactly what he does in class, need very detailed graphs ect. to do well. He was late EVERY DAY to class and very rarely, if at all, in his office hours. Often not prepared for class.
A very strict grader; you'll have little room for error on the tests (he'll deduct points for leaving out an equal sign or not labeling x, y axis's). However, he does an excellent job teaching both the material and study habits. If you want an easy class he is not for you, but if you want to thoroughly learn the material, he does an excellent job
This is a very fair class. YOU CANNOT SLACK.I took him online, which I DO NOT ADVISE. You're gonna to need to put in the work. 90 is an A. 69 is a C. 4 tests (60%), Online Quizzes (15%), Participation(5%), Final Exam (20%, and takes place as your lowest test score) I'm talking if you want a C, you need to put your heart into it.Text book isnt clea
He's a good guy. I'm taking his online class. At times doesn't respond to email. Very clear to what he expects. Offers a goodie sheet which is like a practice test for exams. Online quizzes are extremely tough. 69 is a C and it transfers. Syllabus is clear along with the schedule. This class is hard, remember that. NOT EASY, but doable.

He's always late to class, never at his office, doesn't respond to emails and it takes him A MONTH (yes a whole month!!!) to grade the exams. I'm taking an elementary algebra class of his... and let me say he makes the concepts a million times harder than they really are. He is ALWAYS late to class and when he does come he rarely stays. Don't bother asking questions. And he gives out online work for homework, which is usually helpful... but posted after the test that wentoverthematerial.
Calc is a hard class regardless of the professor. If you are willing to work hard, really really really hard, you can do it. Professor does not make it easy, but he does a descent job. Most people never showed up to class-thats why they fail. But he usually doesn't leave too much time for questions, sometimes is in his office, sometimes not.

Super hard course in general. He gives a lot of extra credit & uses final exam grade to replace 1 of your lowest test grades! StatsPortal & the text is needed. He doesn't collect homework from the book but I HIGHLY recommend doing it. He grades really hard & marks you down for the littlest things. I thought he taught well, just a lot of material!
Taking an online, accelerated Statistics class. It requires a ton of work and organization, which I expected, and have worked my butt off probably 30 or more hours a week. He NEVER gives us our grades. NEVER answers our e-mails or questions. Has now postponed three different assignments with no reason. He is NOT good.
He is a bad professor. I should have checked this website before I took him. He is late every day, assigns 50-60 problems per section & then makes his tests more difficult than they should be. It is almost as though he wants poeple to do bad. I am good at math and an A student, and I will never wast my time and money on any of his classes again.
AWFUL, crams everything he can into one day. Extremely stressful with grades and help. If you're a a good math student you'll do well, if not he doesn't care. Don't take this class if you're not a B average math student.

The worst teacher I have ever encountered at any school I have ever attended. Does not care about teaching. He would rather cash the paycheck and have everyone drop the class! I have a 3.9 grade point average and I have never dropped a class. I could not drop this class fast enough. I could go on and on. DON'T TAKE HIM!

I LOVE this dude. Seriously, drop whatever you're doing and take any available class with him. If you're stuck doing math like many of us are for our degrees, you might as well have a cool cat feeding you the info before the great test.
Absolutely horrible! Jumped from one problem to the next with no clarification of what the problem dealt with. Made the test extra hard and encouraged people to drop the class if they didn't do good on it. Never gave extra credit to help out and nit picked the tiny errors just so he could take points off. Such a hard class, dont take him!
He is fast paces, so if you can keep up with him and the homework, you will do great, i was so nervous after reading all these comments, but after the class, i loved it and i learned a lot. he is a great teacher, like i said, just fast paced. he lets you use your final exam grade to replace your lowest test score hes looking for everyone to success

Even if all your calculations are correct if you forget to use a colon somewhere or write down the wrong letter EVERYTHING is wrong. If you use the words " will be" in stead of "is" EVERYTHING you did is wrong. Doesn't review & online homework doesn't match his lecture
great teacher after taking over for teacher that was not very good.
He's a nice guy but very strict with grading. He will take off points where ever he can. He's overly critical. Many people ended up dropping. He teaches very well though. He has a hard time being on time to class. He's always late. He's a really nice guy but that won't help your grade :/
Most I've ever had to work in a class, but definitely feel confident in my Calc2 knowledge after this class. He makes it very clear that it's up to the student to do the work required, which for math is a lot. Prepare to work hard, but to be able to take pride in it.
Please do not take Stats with this teacher!!! DO not trick yourself into thinking it'll be okay! He's extremely difficult, grades down on the smallest possible things, & is NOT helpful at all. Wish I did better research before taking him.
Class was very difficult. I spent easily 15+ hours a week outside of class trying to grasp the concepts, but it paid off. A lot of my class either dropped out or just had too low of a grade by the end of the semester, but work hard and he's a great teacher.
His example problems are too easy to the point where it's not helpful when you come across a difficult problem in the text exercises.
This is the worst teacher I have ever seen in my life. such a harsh grader he is very bad the worst actually. if you wanna pass don't take his class please save yourself. He never taught me anything , he expects us to know everything, do not take his class please.
Absolutely the worst prof. I've ever had. He is the nicest guy, but an awful teacher. Doesn't help his students, loads on ridiculous amts. of hw,and he is an awful grader. I spend 14+ hours a week on homework, 8+ hours a week in tutoring, and am an all A student and I am passing with a C. He is impossible. He has the highest failure rate at OCC.
This instructor did NO teaching. Responses are vague and not helpful, when you get them. NO feed back from assignments. Opens assignments late and close them early. Hard grader. Some material on quizzes/mid-term are in the next chapter. Forgets to open assignments. Never responses on discussion board. No direction on where or how to use calculator.
Very difficult professor. The tests are difficult and little mistakes do count! He is a very hard grader, so doing the practice problems are mandatory to pass this course.
I passed this class easily and enjoyed coming in. He was never late to our class. He made math very fun and easy to learn. We had a decent amount of homework online that helped with the tests. You have to come to class in order to understand the material and you have to listen. It's a math class. I am looking forward to having him again.
One of the worst Math teachers I have ever had. He focuses more on the way he wants you to answer his questions, rather than if you understand the concept and if you're answer is correct. He's a nice guy, but if you struggle with math at all, avoid taking math with him at all cost.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! Took this class online and he was terrible with keeping up with assignments. We were suppose to have 4 Unit assignments, only had 1. Always opened assignments late on My Math Lab. Doesn't teach/answer questions. Posted the answers to the final review 12 hours prior to the final. Save your time and money.

The worst teacher ever for Linear Algebra. He graded super hard. He made us do proofs when other instructors did not. He was late every single class period!!! He is inconsiderate to students time!!!
The absolute worst teacher I have ever had. I took this as a summer class before going back to UofM ann arbor and have never done so badly in a class before. He doesn't answer emails and makes no effort to help out when you ask.

Moves at a good pace. He was strict on students not being late, but then he was late himself by 5 or 10 minutes. It was somewhat hard to get help with him, but you could get help after class if he didn't have to do anything. He taught the class well though. The Auburn Hills campus has the best math teachers compared to the highland campus.
Don't take this instructor. He's by far the worst online instructor I've ever had. His syllabus is not specific. Doesn't list or let you know when quizzes are due til its day before or day of. People has work too and its hard to plan around not knowing exactly when exams or quizzes will be until its day before or day of. He doesn't always post things on time either. If you take this professor you will always feel like you are behind and constantly trying to catch up especially if you have work and kids.
ITS HARD! i've taken precalc before it just did not get transferred to my home school. I got an A in precalc and now Im barely passing. Be prepared for late nights and making this class priority. The concepts themselves are not hard but the prof expects wayyyy to much. and you have to do it his WAY or it will be incorrect.
Late to class 5-10 mins EVERY DAY. Holds class afterwards for 5+ mins EVERY DAY. Took whole class to talk about one section and then crams the last 2 sections in the last 5 mins of class. Once put a problem on board, never went over it, showed news articles last 15 mins of class instead... Very nice person, but will NEVER take as a professor again.
I have to say the WORST professor I've ever had. While he does help when you ask for it, he rarely answers his emails, is late to class and isnt in his office when you really need him. Ridiculously picky on grading tests and assignments. It's his way or the highway! Save you're time and money if you want to pass with a great grade (or pass at all)
He is a great teacher. The class if tough and if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. He can throw a pop quiz at you any time. He always says if you don't have questions, I do. He is a little corny, but I didn't mind. I would take him again. The book is good for practice but you don't use it much, but you need the code for online assignment
Im sorry but he shouldn't be a professor. He doesn't clarify the material he's teaching us. Plus taking a morning class with him is hard especially if you had a long night just trying to understand the material from the day before. If you have him as a professor, may god have mercy on your soul

Do NOT take this class online unless you can spend 20 hrs + a week on this course! He expects so much from this class while he only provides hw, a midterm, & final. I would advise taking an in-class course unless you have extensive math knowledge. Don't rely on the minimal math from high school.

I am so confused to why this teacher has such a poor rating. I found Mr. Stevenson to be a wonderful teacher. It's not the easiest class in the world. But it's math. I found his lectures to be very clear. He is super organized and provides multiple examples for each concept. He's also pretty funny and not boring at all.

He starts every class with asking if there are any questions, and if there are he explains the answer thoroughly. Personally I found this Instructor to be a little arrogant. When you ask for help he kind of fixes your mistakes for you but you have to keep asking questions to get an actual explanation. His lectures are long but tolerable HOWEVER his class is really HARD. Expect to work for this class everyday of the semester!
Note that the majority of positive reviews here are from students who are taking remedial math (at the middle/high school level). Those classes are easy no matter who teaches it. Now, Mr. Stevenson is the worst professor I've ever had. Never have I had a professor lie about posting study guides, or test on material that is not taught. Stay away.

Not only was he late to every single class, he was rude, condescending, and spent the entire class on the easiest material while squeezing the hardest into the last 10 minutes of class. Whenever someone asked a question he would try to make them look stupid and let his own arrogance get in the way of his teaching. AVOID!

I was really surprised he has a low rating. He wants the students to succeed so he is willing to offer his help constantly, and he doesn't move on with the subject matter until he feels comfortable that everyone understands it. IF you show up and do the work, you should EASILY pass even if math isn't your strong suit.
Mr. Stevenson is a nice guy and a good teacher. However, he expects that you come to every class and do the homework. If you do not do both, you will not do well. Going to his office hours is huge and he gave me extra credit on exams for doing so. Do the work and you'll get an easy A. Do nothing and you'll fail.
This was the best class I have ever taken. Lectures are long, but cover pretty much everything you need to know. It also really helps to do the extra exercises out of the book, and I definitely recommend going to office hours. Overall, Mr. Stevenson is an excellent professor and although the class is challenging, it is absolutely worth it!
I just took mat 1580 with him. He would leave late numerous times in class. He also forgot to give me a score sheet for the test. Then marked me down when I said I didn't have it (took it in access). This guy also skims lectures. This guy is a complete joke.
He was annoying always made jokes about his wife example "okay you'll see x and y go together do this this just like me and my wife did last night" he would always cram the hard stuff in the last 10 minutes and would go over time. Wouldn't let you leave early.
Worst Calc 2 Teacher
I feel most of these poor ratings are due to the fact that Calc II is simply a hard class that you need to study A LOT for on your own. You can't expect the professor to baby you through it. He does arrive late to class pretty often however, and does not use his lecture time very wisely considering how much material is covered in Calc II.
He's a friendly enough guy, but his class was awful. Shouldn't have even been a hard class, but I spent more time studying for this class than any of my other classes last semester and still got a D. If math is at all difficult for you, he's not the one to take; he made me feel stupid for asking questions.
Very lazy professor, has no business teaching a higher level course such as Calc 2. For the third week in a row he claimed there would be homework over the weekend, and for the third week in a row he doesn't upload the homework. TERRIBLE. Does not even attempt to prepare you for the exams. Doesn't answer emails. Obviously doesn't care AT ALL. DONT
Professor Stevenson, will give you 4 Exams and very little online homework. I think in total we were given 2-3 take home assignments that were not returned until the end of the semester. We didn't know what our grade was on the exam #4 until the day of the final. He is contradiction, hypocritical and hates when you give a wrong answer to a question
I took his Trigonometry course. I went to tutoring that was offered on campus and asked after class for his assistance. His answers were short and said back in a way that had a negative tone. As in, I shouldn't be asking this question or I'm stupid. His help wasn't useful nor his teaching approach.

I have taken Mr. Stevenson for 4 different math classes at OCC. He gives great examples in his lectures, I am a very visual learner and love to see examples. Not a blow off class.
He's normally around 20 minutes late to class, claims to have a lot of online homework but we had 4, tests are a lot harder than the both the lecture examples and the book examples. He's not very good at explaining solutions.
Grades very hard and only had a few homework assignments. Had a midterm, final, and about 4 pop quizzes. He was late to class every single day and if you asked him for help he wouldn't really answer the question. He goes fast through lecture and never once asked if people understood what was being taught. Never posts grades either.
You're a non-math person just looking for credits? DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. You will fail. In my semester he was late every class, always behind. He was late to return tests/assignments. We tested on things he never taught. Test reviews never matched the test and he was completely unhelpful outside of class. He doesn't care, he does the bare minimum.
Calc 2 is by itself a difficult class, but I feel like Stevenson did a wonderful job of explaining the material. He will occasionally make mistakes for the sole purpose to see if anyone in the room is paying attention to the lecture. He is generally late to class. Calc 2 is a very demanding course, so homework is a must.
Laziest prof ive ever had. He was literally 30 mins late to my final. Linear algebra is a hard course and he grades very harshly. Tests are difficult. To his credit he knows his stuff and his lectures were solid. He says there will be pop quizzes, but hes usually too lazy so maybe 2 or 3. Sadly he is the only person to teach this at AH. Work hard.
Prof. Stevenson knows math and presents it clearly, usually. He is generally late to class and occasionally the online HW will not be posted in a timely manner. HW 100 pts of grade, 4 tests 100 pts each and cumulative final 150 pts. extra credit built into the course, utilize the math lab and do the hw it does make a difference.

OCC, are you ever going to acknowledge & address the glaring issue with this Professor? I made a formal complaint about his consistent tardiness & lack of providing help which goes hand in hand with his negative attitude, but the staff were already aware. Lucky for him he has tenure so I guess thats a free pass to act & arrive as he pleases.
Not a bad math teacher, and I've had some doozies. You do have to put in the work and actually study. He is late to class almost every day, but he grades incredibly easy (one test had 130 points and he took it out of 115, how much more can you ask for).
I took college Algebra with Mr. Stevenson. It was an accelerated class but I liked the lectures a lot. He gives very good examples in class. I highly recommend him.
I took College Algebra with him and he is a great teacher overall. It was really hard at first, transitioning out of high school to college, but he is an extremely understanding person. Talk to him if you have any questions. Also, make sure you take good notes and know how to teach yourself. On tests, make sure you show EVERY step

I had Professor Stevenson for both Calc 2 and Linear Algebra. He's a great guy but clearly a lazy professor. I can't recall a single day in either class when he came in on time and his office hours aren't very helpful. He does curve out each test if needed, which is usually often. Says there will be pop quizzes often but ends up giving one or two.

To take his stats class you are going to have to have the skills and determination to teach yourself a lot of the work. He shows examples in class, but for me to understand what he was trying to say I had to take quite a bit of time out of class to teach myself the material. He was never on time once for our class also.

Really great Prof; has an excellent teaching style and is passionate about what he does. Gives lots of extra credit as well. If a test is 108 points, he'll grade it out of 100 so even if you end up with what should have been a 79, it'll be 85. Online assignments and tests are the extent of his grading criteria, no loads of homework are required
Worst teacher I've had in 13 years as a student. Got every correct answer on an exam, but ended up failing because the work was not to his standards. Terrible office hours as well. Sassy remarks when students dont know how to solve a problem. Dont take.
I wouldnt recomend. Even if you get the right answer, he marks it wrong if you dont do it "his way". He has a weird way of teaching and sometimes makes mistakes grading. I thought the course was easy but he made it much more complicated than what it really is. I dropped this class so I wouldnt fail. Retaking this class but not with this professor.
Don't take him! First day of class, he showed up 15 minutes late. He would be in the building and still have us waiting for him most days. Be prepared to only get responses to emails half the time. His grading is ridiculous. You wont know your grade in the class most of the time. "no question is stupid" except he made you feel stupid for asking.
Im glad I paid 300 dollars for a book we still havent touched. Mark constantly sends last minute homework by email the night or even morning before class. I cant tell if he just doesnt have assignments figured out before hand but its extremely unhelpful. Do not take him if possible, awful prof. I have to drop due to his lack of organization.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone taking calc 1 or above. His tests are very hard, contain content not covered. Stevenson is always at least 10 minutes late to class every lecture and his office is a minute down the hall.

This professor is awful! Ive taken stats and at this point im not even sure if this is a math class! Stats was so easy when I took it but he makes it so much more complicated than needed! Mediocre at best is the best way to put it. Don't expect any extra credit opportunities and expect random "Assessments" at the end of classes. His tests were rather difficult and he almost never updates grades on D2L.
Overall professor stevenson is a nice guy, but when it comes down to work, get ready for it. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss one small equal sign he takes a point. No homework redos, no free-bees, and a really tough grader. He is a nice respectful guy, and he wants you to work as hard as possible for success.

Ummmmm. If you require extra help and lots of practice in math then dont take him. Im a straight A student and this is my first C in my whole career. Its not the students, its the teaching. If youre a genius like him then maybe youll be fine, your grade is basically just the tests.
I wish he would spend more time actually helping his students. Between his rambling and frequent college stories, he doesn't stay on task and later blames the students. He also doesn't respond to emails and assumes you're lying to him when you ask about it. Good luck if you have any questions because he'll make you feel like a useless child.
I have never had a prof that neglected and disrespected his students the way Mark does. His class is a joke. He takes 3-4 weeks to return assignments and test. You will never know what your grade is. You never receive any points for the 12+ hours of homework you are given. He stated "I don't have a quota so I don't care if any of you pass."
Stevenson is a very difficult professor. He goes through the theory of the given section and does maybe one practice or example problem if you are lucky. Questions are encourage but rarely answered adequately. He rarely assignes graded homework. He will be late to every class period. Do not expect grades to be posted on d2l!

Before classes changed to online he'd always be late to class despite that his office is a minute walk away. Although its an online class there are no online lectures, you have to study on your own. He had a policy of replacing the final exam score for the lowest test score, but not until he erased it to not replaceable a hour before the final exam
Avoid this professor. this course was fully online and this is the worst professor. He posts study guides way to late. Doesn't respond to emails and has really confusing lecture videos. The syllabus was supposed to have weekly assignments but then the week of an exam 4 assignments were due over the weekend. In exam he yells about camera angle.

Honestly, the worst professor I've had ever. I've taken Discrete Math, Calc 1-3, Diff Eq, Combinatorics, etc. None of them have been as atrocious. No homework, random exams at any point in the semester, wasted $125 for my "online textbook", can't email, and doesn't admit to mistakes and typo. Your exams aren't hard - you just can't teach.
He shows up to class 20-40 minutes late almost regularly, then when online, he didn't respond to a single student for weeks at a time. EVEN STOPPED POSTING NOTES. Our class went to the dean and they did nothing. he promised us at the end of the semester our lowest exam grade would be dropped and he ended up changing his mind last week of class.
Definitely not the worst professor like many say, but a lot better than Hopkins. Sure his classroom structure is not the best but his class is passable.
Lecture videos are well organized, and he explains the content in a way well thought out manner and gives plenty of examples. He also posts written notes for each video that are a great resource. Make sure to do the optional practice problems! The lowest test grade is dropped, and you have 5% extra credit on homework at the end of the semester.
By far the worst professor I have ever taken. His notes are 80% terminology, 20% examples. He gives only one example per concept, so if you don't understand one, too bad. When you go to study for one of his tests, good luck. Because he doesn't give any study guide at all. If you email him, don't expect to hear back from him for at least 3 days
Stevenson deducted points from my assignment because I gave the answer to a problem in radians. He never told us he wanted us to use degrees. He only told us that after the fact. And this was in a linear algebra class. The deduction was only made because it took him extra time to convert to another unit, so I got docked for inconvenience.

Pros: He lets us use calculator (others don't), 3 exams were open note, good lecture videos, extra credit. Cons: posts videos late, takes time to grade tests, paranoid with cheating, no exam reviews. Not the worst, not the best. Tests are pretty similar to notes, so study those. He doesn't deserve to be treated rude tho, he's not mean to students.

Calculus was so easy, everyone did bad, I did good. Not a good professor, he think you cheat for everything, but that's how all prof. do. I love the zoom tests tho, make me concentrate more. But he cant' teach, I have to teach everything to myself, take another prof if you can, save some money

I was very disappointed with this professor. He needs to work on his communication. I had to drop the class because I missed one test since i had a trip planned for a long time. He said we would figure out a makeup test. However he never did and I was emailing about when I could take one. It eventually got to the point where there was no point.
you'll have to study everything on your own, the prof. won't teach you anything. I would suggest if you have to wait for another semester, wait. otherwise, you're gonna end up ruining your grades, time, and money.

Find literally anyone else for this course, perhaps a 4th grader would be a better Calc professor than him. Incredibly unorganized (messed up 3 out of the 4 tests), distracts students while they are taking an exam by talking, takes weeks to grade assignments. He provides weekly updates that are irrelevant to the course and are extremely useless.

If this is the only professor available for registration, wait another semester for a different one. He takes about 3 weeks to grade tests and marks you down for small mistakes. He posted lectures on new topics right before test days. His practice examples were not helpful at all to prepare for tests. He said, "I don't care if you fail." Worst prof
As a person, he's a nice guy. As a professor, not a fan. The learning is done on your own through pre-recorded lectures. There was a two week span where he didn't post any new lecture videos and moved the test back a day. Tried to teach us something one day before the final. Question 1 on the final was something from calc 1 not covered in the class
Ok so for his test. You will need to print out and then scan to submit. Basically not online. You will be on zoom call on the test day so he can see your activity fully while you give the test. He does things late. So like you will receive your graded test after weeks, He will sometimes submit 1 or 2 assignments late. Attendance is not mandatory..
A lot of People seem to be giving my mans Mr. Stevenson a bad rep. I took his pre-calc class after not taking a math class for years and being pretty behind in high school. He taught everything I needed for tests which had relatively simple problems and made it easy to pass if you do practice problems. Im now taking calc with him and its going well
this was my second time taking calculus and due to the pandemic, both of my times were online. Professor Stevenson does not answer emails at all; i sent three over the course of the semester and all of them were unread on his end. Your grade is solely based on 4 exams, of which, 3 we learned important material for 2 days before the exam.
Exam problems on topics not covered in class or homework. Flies through the material. Takes many points off for small mistakes. Avoid at all costs.
Please read others reviews and avoid at all cost. This was my last class and i'm going to have to drop because he doesn't release homework until 2 days before class. You are not a priority to his teaching.

He was a good guy but as a professor I would NOT recommend. I read all these comments before taking the class and I should have listened. I barely passed the class because he is just not good with communication, not organized, and is an extremely hard grader. The only perks were two extra credit assignments, barely worth much.
Disrespectful and dismisses students. Won't answer questions without sarcasm, no office hours. I'm a hardworking reasonable student, he's an awful professor. Do yourself a favor, go to another campus if you have to. He does not abide by the class schedule, late 15+ mins always. I should have taken the other reviews serious.

He is awful oh my god, if you take this class online through OCC auburn hills, the whole grade is dependent on 4 tests and the homework grade only accounts for 5 percent. Not to mention he take multiple days to email back, and lots of homework assignments basically worth nothing. no extra credit. Please just don't take his class.
Class is out of 550 points, 450 come from tests. Final was Dec 19, and he introduced a new chapter w/ 4 sections on Dec 17, said we had 4 hw assignments due the 18, but didn't add the last two until 1 PM on the 18 and made the last hw due 1 hour before the test. 4.0 is dropping to a 3.56, the only thing I got from this class were stress hives.
Definitely should have a higher rating. He's knowledgeable in what he's teaching. The classwork and the homework are always a good deal harder than the test. Something things he teaches last minute, but on the test are very simple. His exams are very fair.
This professor teaches Linear Algebra the right way. Mark teaches in a way so that all the concepts build on one another. You have to put in lots of effort from the first day of class, and I promise it will be worth it down the road. In order to succeed, you have to do all of the homework problems assigned.
Not organized or considerate. I aced linear algebra, but I cried. Tests were reasonable; all the content looks similar so tests can seem confusing. He's not bad at lecturing but he goes so slow that he rushes at the end or posts the rest for you to figure out. I promise, go to a different campus if you have to. If you dare, DO ALL THE HW PROBS.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Honestly, for linear algebra I got an A but I'm crazy dedicated. Like I had surgery and went to class 2 days later. I did not sleep either. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Very rude, inconsiderate, and disorganized. Just take another professor, the disrespect and stress wasn't worth it...
Take him if you want to learn something, don't take him if you want to pass. On test 3 everyone got like a 40% and he didn't curve it, saying that we "should have just learned calculus". He lectures painfully slow, so try to get caffeinated before lecture, especially if its late at night.
No curves for test and he will NOT give you partial credit. Does not answer emails until 2-3 weeks later (legit). I can't imagine anyone actually passing his class. His lectures are horrible and ineffective. Genuinely a horrible experience and I'm very upset I took this class with him. Please use this as a sign and don't take him!
He is honestly so bad. He grades you based off of 4 things and if you do poorly on 1 thing kiss that A goodbye. He is so slow on answering emails and doesn't care about his students. His homework is already challenging and the tests impossible. Dont take this class. Unless you are a math WHIZ it is so hard.
He seemed like a good guy at first, but he was a HORRIBLE teacher. He made up methods to solve things & if you didn't use them, you wouldn't get a good grade. He also lectured on unrelated things right before all the tests. He wasn't helpful during office visits & he didn't give extra credit for tutoring/SI sessions when he said that he would.
Honestly a terrible teacher. Always shows up late for exams, doesn't explain the material well. The class is almost entirely based on how well you can teach yourself, and takes forever to respond to emails. DO NOT take this prof.
This class has been the most difficult math class thus far. Mainly due to it being an accelerated summer class (10 Weeks) and being completely online. The professor does not give practice exams which sucks. So much information so fast, you don't know what to study for exams. He gives 2 tests, 2 quizzes, and a final.
The dude takes 3+ days to respond to any emails. You need to sign up to take his exams in person and if you don't, tough luck you can't take it. The class is based on 2 Exams, 2 Quizzes, and the Final, all of which he deducts points on for every little thing. Forgot a closing parenthesis, looks like 20% points for you. The guy's literally insane.
Professor provides little resources to practice besides basic textbook exercises ie: no practice exams. Expects students to follow his exact notation from lecture videos but his videos are unorganized and often incorrect with very little examples. The only way to learn is Youtube. You might pass but you won't learn the material. Just a lazy teacher
The tests that begin at 2 actually start at 3 because that is when he shows up. The test you take the second week of the course will be graded a week after the course ends. Make sure to put plenty of programs on your calculator that will help you. Make sure to email him a month before you want a response.
First professor I have ever taken that I will not take again, and I have over 100 credits completed. Awful experience
Highly frustrated and disappointed with this professor. The lectures were dry and did not help much with learning the subject. He grades with no leniency and barely gives partial credit on his difficult exams. Overall, he does not seem to care that a lot of a students were struggling and are unhappy with his teaching methods. I do NOT recommend!!!
The absolute worst. After talking with other students in the class, there were many that did not pass. I cannot express my distaste enough. He doesn't timely respond to emails, doesn't keep up on his obligations, slow at grading, the list goes on. I've never had a professor this bad, and I would say Math is my strong suit.
Evening Lecture at AH. Was a good teacher but never simplfied material. Expects us to know things we forgot and sorta makes you feel guilty about it. Very lecture heavy and definition, memorization heavy. Take another instead like Prof. K (or Hopkins if online).

Absolutely horrendous. Mean and does not teach. Horrible grade turn-around time. Some tests had a CLASS AVERAGE of failing. Final was inappropriately weighted and all tests were required to be taken on paper in person, and if you are sick or have to work you get a zero.
I've had a lot of professors but this one gets the award for my worst one. There is such little emphasis on actually understanding the material, and way too much emphasis on following his "blueprints". If you don't answer in the exact same way he would answer you're wrong, even if everything you said is correct. Also a very mean individual.FireHim
Material can already be challenging it's self, now imagine having a professor that constantly messes up the notes. When an exam is approaching, he will plow through the remaining sections/ won't even complete the notes. Need to contact him outside of class? Good luck! Overall this class was not a good experience.

He expects perfection from students and if work is not done in the way he wants it to be done, full credit will not be given, even with correct answer. He takes weeks to respond to emails, and does not put any grades in the grade book. He does not give out many homework assignments, so grades are dependent upon mostly exam scores.
This class was a real challenge. The professor's lectures were dry, and he didn't provide enough practice materials. Emails take ages to get a response. Luckily, using tools like unstuckstudy ai and YouTube helped fill in the gaps. Overall, be prepared to teach yourself most of the content.
Indescribably awful. Horrific. Needs to be prosecuted in a court of law.
Not a very good professor .Grade dependent on the tests which are all extremely hard. You will not get a study guide for any of them including the final. Will instead give a “goodie sheet” which includes many questions that you will not need to know at all and very little of what you will need. Hardest I've ever worked for something with no payoff.
While the professor does seem very knowledgeable about the topics at hand, if you ask any questions that stray from the syllabi he refuses to elaborate. The lectures were slow resulting in us being a week behind schedule almost the entire semester.
I highly do not recommend taking this professor. He's a nice man I'll give him that but he's a horrible professor. He will not give reviews for exams and does not post announcements for hw. Grade is entirely dependent on tests. Want to do well on them? Do all practice problems assigned because he provides ZERO test prep materials. I will say, tests were somewhat similar to lecture and he was a decent guy but still would NOT recommend if you value your time and mental health.
He was late to every lecture by at least 10 minutes, including one day when he was 90 minutes late. He lost basically an entire lecture from his tardiness alone. He never assigned homework despite saying he would, so paying for the online text was a waste of money. He only had two hours for office hours a week, and he was absolutely no help.

I took Calc 3 with Professor Stevenson in Summer 2024 at OCC. He was late 5–20 minutes daily for a 2 hr 50 min class and often kept us 15 minutes late. He graded harshly and very slowly. Substitutes would also complain about him, and he often vented to us about his personal life. We would get breaks in the middle of class that could be 10-30 min.
Late 5-10 minutes each day so just get used to it. He has 3 tests and the Final exam which account for 90% of the grade with assignments as the other 10%. He posts the notes on D2L but sometimes needs to be reminded to posts them. Gives answer keys after you get the test back. Funny teacher and cheerful dude with a HUGE love for math.
He is ok as long as you do problems
Fair grader and sometimes a generous grader. No practice exams but test problems can be similar to ones done in class or some problems in the book, I usually felt prepared for an exam. Easy going lecturer who wants to see you pass.
Second time with this professor and I don't know if it was cause I understood the content better or he is more experienced with the subject but the class seemed to run smoother this time. We were on schedule or ahead throughout the semester. He grades harshly on your syntax but is generous with partial credit even if you messed up the first step.
If I could rate a 0 I would. Grading is ridiculous, homework assigned but no grade for it and tests/exams are a huge proportion. I have never worked so hard at something like I have in this class and I've gotten 0 pay off. There isn't enough words to describe how bad this class is, don't take it with him.
The teacher doesn't post any assignments, and when he does, it's usually on the weekend and due on Monday. He hardly explains the topics, and then, during the same week, he announces a test. This is for my online class

Honestly my worst experience at OCC, this teacher won't even notice ahead iof time you are falling extremely behind or if you will not pass this class. I thank barely grasped through, but also with his snarky attitude nothing really helps him, and he also does random pop quizzes in the morning class.
Only take this prof if u HAVE to. Inconsiderate of people's time. Doesn't reply to emails, post grades, grade tests, slow lectures. He's not the worst, he's passionate about the subject and lectures are thorough but asking him a question was dreadful. He's on some sort of power trip. Exams are all cumulative which really throws you off.
He's the worst teacher. He doesn't post anything until exam week, which makes the course really hard. When exams come, you're basically hoping there won't be topics you've never even seen. The videos he posts barely cover the material, and his communication is terrible.
I kind of wanted to like Prof. Stevenson but he would always show up late 10 minutes but then wanted to make it up by going 10 minutes longer the lecture time. Absolutely NO practice tests, and will completely waste your time studying previous material which may/may not show up on the test. Would not specify what was on the final so be prepared.
