Very good and love computers. Presenting his materials using high technology adds to the easiness of student learning. Knowledgeable and try to keep students to his standards. Good course.
He's a good professor but hard to know what is his standards. I did everything in his class and I only had a 'B'. His tests were kind of hard. Be prepare for the final because that's the hardest one.
Very easy teacher if you follow his lectures and show up for class. I found his tests to be quite easy actually. He likes to ask "trick" questions, so you just have to think for a minute. Interesting class.
Very interesting course. Intellectually stimulating. Tests are a little difficult though but he grades on a decent curve. Likes to talk about his nose piercing (A LOT!) when talking about deviating from the social "norms"--odd.
VERY EASY TEACHER, although he does talk a lot, and I mean A LOT. But very good. Just follow his instructions exactly the way its on the handout and you got an "A" =) And his tests are so not hard. and all his notes can be printed out right off line. Hardly no work required.
very interesting. like any normal class, not too hard but not easy either. class actually makes you think and you have to pay attention a lot. he has his lectures available to print, which makes note taking a hell of a lot easier
fair instructor. gives 3 exams and drops the lowest one. offers many extra credit which can help your grade a lot. his class was quite interesting when he showed clips to proved points but their are boring days as well. the hw was to read articles that can only be obtained in the library. test were a little difficult IMO

Dr. Swiencicki is very professional, helpful and understanding; he's an easy teacher with easy way of teaching. There's a lot of quizzes, but all are right out of the text. Base grading on the "points" system. Also, the class consists of an essay and court role playing. Overall, it's an easy "A" class.
mark is an awsome professor. his lecture with power point and you can print them out online. there's one research paper and 3 exams. the exams are easy if you go to class and read his slides. the paper is easy as well, just include everything he has in his lecture notes. overall, great class and you learn alot. i barely go to class n got an A

Dr. Mark is very smart and knows a lot about what he teaches. He teaching is clear and he guides you through all you need to know for future exams. His exams are easy if you go to class and study from the study guides. To top it off he is HOT! I LOVED GOING TO CLASS JUST TO WATCH HIM TEACH. I am crazy for sexy, smart, nerdy teachers!
i think that he is a very unconsiderated teacher. i think that he is a surface teacher hardly ever does his assignments line up with his book readings.almost everything he teaches is black and white. I was so interested in this major before i was forced to take him as a instructor because he teaches all the soc. classes at COA so it is as if we hav
Mark is a great teacher. He makes the students think and he is very informed on the subjects he teaches. He is very clear as to what he expects from you. The class is entertaining and interesting. He is very organized and dependable.
Read the chapters beforehand, attend class & your golden. Many chances to take xtra credit online quizzes, reading notes, etc. He's really animated like a cartoon character. Uses great powerpoint presentations w/relevant & funny material to explain the theories and concept of his lectures. He has a funny East Coast neuroticism about him also.
His class is really easy if you do the work. You do not have to read the book just study the study guide and come to class. He is veryu argumentitive and he has a habit of telling your answer in class is wrong and then repeating your same answer.
class wasnt too hard.. lots of chances for extra credit.. study guides hella helpful for all the tests.. you watch a lot of videos in the class.. the study guides pretty much tell you wahts gonna be on the test.. follow the study guides and you're good for the tests and the final.. any questions you can ask swiencicki.. he a cool dude

Mr. S.'s class is kinda boring. But he is very, very nice. His class is always powerpoint lectures, and you have 3 easy easy mult. choice exams, BUT the hardest thing and most horrible is his huge paper you must do near the end of the semester. Other than that, he is nice and his class is easy
I thought I was failing, but I guess after all that cramming for the final paid off because I ended the semester with an A. Thanks Mark! Participation is something he really likes from his students.
he's a good guy, and devoted to teaching which is endearing. he really likes what he teaches and shows interest in students' comments and feedback.
Great teacher! He all the great qualities of what a teacher is all about. Very structured class!
Prof. Swiencicki has a lot of passion for what he teaches. He shows fun and interesting videos that illustrate the themes of the course. He makes himself available if you need help studying or have questions. He can become side-tracked at times. The study guides are useful but at least skimming the text is needed. Overall good instructor.
He is a pretty cool teacher. He gives you study guide before the test. Take notes and read. He is pretty nice.
Very easy class. His lectures are interesting, and you can learn a lot. He gives you a study guide before the test, which has all the questions on it. There are 3 exams, you can drop one. How easy is that? ;-) There's a 4-5 page paper you have to do, but follow the guidelines and you'll get an A. He grades easy as well.
Great teacher. I took both his soc.1 and 5, and I strongly recommend soc. 5 if you were only take one sociology class as GE. You will get the most out of this class than just taking Soc. 1 because it deals with our racial problem, which I find it interested as well as practical.
He has about 3-4 tests in the semester and always gives out study guides and lets you use a page of notes. His class might be boring, but he shows clips and other things that'll help you on the tests.. Final research paper not bad, 5-7 pages. Overall, pretty cool guy and easy class.
Fun class, pretty easy.
Wasn't interested in the subject at all, but pretty cool guy. A couple tests, (lets you have a page of notes) and the final essay.. when you get it back, he makes it seem like he wants everything done HIS exact way.. But everything is pretty straightforward and I would recommend him.. Not the greatest or easiest teacher, but pretty fair.
His class is pretty easy and boring, but it's important to pay attention to his lectures and take notes because his TEST are really hard. I was failed his class,so I had to drop the class.
Lots of note taking. Subject is interesting, but class is boring. The exams are common sense; just answer the study guide questions because most of it is on the exam. Grades unfairly on the term paper. Also, I only read one chapter from the textbk for the entire semester, and I still got an A in the class. I reccommend taking him for Sociology.
His class is kind of hard if you're not a good test taker. I highly recommend you to not take this course. Test = 80% of your grade and term paper = 20%. There are 3 tests given and 1 term paper he graded your paper very harsh. He give extra credit for like online quizzes, but it's not worth that much point.
Swiencicki's PowerPoints are pretty entertaining and I can tell he is very excited by Sociology. I must admit having printouts of the lecture make me lazy about coming to class, but I feel like I missed out because my test grades reflected it. All in all, a cool professor. Oh yeah, he lets everyone know that he reads RateMyProfessors.com!
this class is very hard! The "exam" is extremely difficult, and the teacher is cool.but try not to take his class!
Attendance is important. Roll is taken frequently; after so many absences, you are docked points. Tests are not too hard...a study guide is given a week before the exam. Final paper is difficult because it's graded as if students are expected to be sociology graduate students, not introductory students. Overall, interesting class and recommended.
I have not missed one class! I've got C in this class, but i guess if you are not a good test taker than you shouldn't be taking this class.(becoz)this professor will confuse you a lot.Even you study hard before the exam there will be ugly trick!
Good teacher- knows his stuff. gives out study guide questions b4 the test and thats basically the test. one ethnicity paper and research questions assignment and thats all. attendance isnt really important.
He knows the subjects well and you can tell he likes to teach. He lectures with powerpoints and at times can be interesting. I recommend taking social problems because it can be useful and it knocks out a GE, so might as well take this class. Quizzes were okay, take notes and study the study guide and you'll be set.
He is a nice, doesn't like to repeat himself, has a tendancy to talk fast and rush through the slides.
He tries hard, but he is missing some key points to being a teacher. He constantly asks questions, doesn't give time for a response, talks over student answers, ignores/doesn't hear answers, etc. He asks "fill in the blank" type questions. Often he asks an unclear question and then clearly thinks we are stupid because no one knows how to answer.
i like how he uses numbered ppt slides for his lectures cuz i have ADD & this helps me refocus when i zone out. he also shows funny videos which makes the class more interesting. i wish there was more group activities since those are always a nice break from the lectures but the ones he does really make you think. its a good elective.
He does not allow disagreement or even logical questions in response to the material he teaches. He discourages discussion, talks over rebuttals, and teaches from questionable statistics. However, he's an easy A. Simply attend lectures to pass, and when doing the project, tell him what he wants to hear. I didn't even open the textbook.
ye! you dont need to come to class.even if you in class it doesnt help you much.he will make you very unconfortable when you try to answer his stuped Qs.he asks a lot of question, but he will not let you speak.tests are hard, he will grade ur paper harsh!
I live in the hood and never understood why there was so many social problems until I took this class. Now I see my neighborhood and society in a different way. Definitely one of the better classes at COA.
Good teacher, intelligent, clear and precise. Fantastic course altogether.
This class was pretty easy if you just show up. The test are really easy, plus he gives you a study guide that really helps. I liked the fact that he uses slides. His examples are interesting, overall I recommended his class! EASY!
Swincicki ? Nuh! Do dont take his class!!! Becoz. first he thinks everyone in his class is STUPID second, he will constintely asks the usless questions, and the worst part is he WON'T let you answer in the middle of it he will cut you off! good luck
Sweincicki + harsh grading = F . He makes sociology too difficult! BTW, his study guide won't work!
I had Mark for soc1 and 5. His class is easy but go everyday! b/c he drops you after 6 absences or 12 tardies. His tests are easy, he gives you a study guide and his final is not comprehensive. He is opiniosted and will ask you a question and then answer it himself, b.c your answer was not "right". Overall good class, learned a lot
i have never hated a teacher before this. its not that he's a bad teacher. its that he DOESNT LISTEN AT ALL. i swear he has a problem with listening. if u ask a Q he wont listen. if he asks a Q he wont listen. if u take his class, dont expect much from him, just do what u need to do to get an A (which is easy!)
His class is easy if you pay attention and take good notes. He takes off points for tardiness and absences, overall good instructor. This was not a hard class at all, he gave good examples in class and interesting videos.
Would rather teach you what to think than how or why to think it. A microcosm of everything that is wrong with liberal education today. His academic abilities leave a lot to be desired. Apparently, he hails from the school of political correctness over substance. I saw him abusively berate a student for disagreeing with him. No, Never Again!
Swiencicki tries his best to give out all the information. He covers a lot of thing which might be hard to understand, but I think that some people just don?t want to put in the effort. He tells you everything that needs to be done, and you just have to do it. There are 3 test, 1 paper, and a group discussion. It is not hard as long as you try.
What I like about his class is he keeps it interesting. He's organized, the lectures are based off his powerpoint slides mostly. He also is very clear in his lectures. The quizzes are somewhat hard but he does grade on a curve and he gives a study guide which helps a lot.
very easy class the teacher is good i got A in this class
I took Dr. Mark twice for both Soc 1&2. At first I thought he hated me. I misunderstood him. All I had to do is ask him. The second time I took him, he saw me putting in the effort to take his class. He is very serious about his papers. All you have to do is follow directions. He knows what he is talking about, and can explain more when you ask him
Honestly, I've never had such a terrible instructor ever. Swienciki loves to ask questions but corners it in such a way that only the answer he's looking for is acceptable. His study guides are only half helpful. His exams consisted of entirely statistics, which only states what happened in that year and proves nothing at all. Do not take this guy!
So i took this class thinking i would get something out of it. Instead i had the worst teacher ever who hated the fact that my job would text me.He never listened and wrote sloppy on the bored. dont like the fact that I couldnt really learn anything in that class because he wouldnt listen to your question when you needed clarification. DONT TAKE
GREAT TEACHER! Hes funny as well as sets up a great lecture for the class everytime. Has good life experience to back up what he says. I took him 2 sems in a row he was so good! I already got my BA but still have his lecture notes filed away bc they were so interesting. I have told at least 2 ppl to take his class and they both loved him.
He is a nice teacher and class is easy.
BORING CLASS!! ITS THE END OF THE SEMESTER AND HE STILL TRYING TO DROP YOU. WORST CLASS. HATE IT!
Although a bit of a narcissist, he is a fair instructor. His notes on PowerPoint made it real easy to follow along and stay interested as his class is mostly all lecture. Study guides were clear and overall if you use them you will do well.
grade is based only of like three tests and a paper, all based mostly on his slides. Tests are straight forward, but harsh grader on the paper. If your not good at testing DO NOT TAKE HiS CLASS. all his class is notes and notes and notes on his slides and him talking and talking. BORiNG.
Do yourself a favor and find a different teacher. Don't be late for class, not even 1 minute or you will be marked absent. In his book, a tardy is an absence. 3 absences & you will be dropped or at least threatened to be. He also marks you absent, even f you are there- so be sure to double check.grade is based on 3 tests and a hard sociology paper.
While I finally get A, I recommend you guys find another teacher. 3 exams (drop the lowest one if the 3rd one >= 75) and 1 paper. His study guide for the exam is ambiguous. Late equals absence. No electronic device (lose 1 point each time). He grades the paper harshly. Overall, his class exhausts me.
I liked how Swiencicki didnt just repeat what was in the book but made the class come up with real world examples of what the book talked about. and it didnt hurt that he showed funny videos and slides to make his points. its true hes strict on attendance but he curves the exams so unless your a total slacker youll do fine.
The tests in this class account for 83% of your course grade, and he seemingly makes up the questions himself. Yes, from the readings & lecture; yet these questions are worded to confuse. NOT study guide questions; NOT even close! Reflections of the readings, due in class, to divirsify grading system would have been nice.
Great teacher. He always relates current events to what were studying and has a sarcastic humor. Love the slide packet you can download to help you follow along. I wish other teachers made note taking this easy.
CHAPTER QUIZZES ONCE A WEEK, NO FUN.. YOU MUST TAKE NOTES OR ELSE YOUR GRADE IS DOWN THE DRAIN.
good lectures & interesting project but not the easiest class because you have to read the chapters and take the weekly online quizes on them. Take only if you have time to put into the class and don't miss too many classes because he drops people with bad attendance.
Mark is an okay teacher. He is really strict when it comes to deadlines. Counts tardies as absences so even if you're just late too many times he still drops you. In my opinion he uses too many personal examples to back up the facts he gives us in class. Too many 'gangsta' analogies. He doesn't do discussions either, just cont. to say he's right.
Mark's class made me second guess my major. There is no discussion in this class, it's all lectures and power points. Almost all his references are outdated and he gets upset when no one knows what he's referencing. I would not recommend this class if you're a lazy student, reading is required. I did not enjoy this class, I was mostly bored. #TYBG
I felt intimidated during the first few weeks of class but it all finally started to clicked. Dr. Swiencicki's makes you study the material. His weekly online quizzes ensures that you read the textbook. The slides that he shows and discuss during class helps the students grasp the subject matter. I recommend Dr. Swiencicki for Intro to Sociology.
He is a ok teacher, the class is informative, he is pretty clear, he gives you the notes in a slide packet, just come to class cuz he WILL drop you! Its true he doesn't let you answer the questions he asks and there are no discussions. He is tough on the paper, but the study guide basically is a replica of the test questions, over all easy class.
His class is teacher centered. No time for discussion.he do not even listen to student inputs.
His test are not about what you know but rather memorizing useless statistics and pointless information. Not helpful at all and is stubborn on grades. The essay has no syllabus and it is unclear on how to get a good grade on it. One of the worst teachers for Sociology.
Mark does not a coddle his students, but he's a solid professor who knows his subject. Exams make up 85% of your grade, however study guides are provided. Class is all lecture based. I can see how the lack of class discussion could bother some students, but remember: Without data, you're just a person with an opinion! This is a social SCIENCE.
Wouldn't recommend, self centered, quizes are multiple choice and confusing, almost everyone in the class room was lost all the semester long
Incompetent professor of the highest order. He lectures on materials that is two weeks overdue and you'll be two weeks ahead of him in quizzes as opposed to the topic of which he chooses to rant about. which is outdated to what he ask you to study outside of class. AVOID THE CLASS.
Awesome teacher, very good at articulating his points with funny but relevant videos. Didn't get a great grade in this class but it was totally worth taking
Be prepared to memorize unusable statistics for exams (3Exams). The Exams are mostly on memorizing numbers, percentages, etc. NOT CLEAR! If you ask for clarification on a study guide question, he is not helpful. If you do not do well on the exams, the extra credit is worthless to your grade. I would not recommend taking a Sociology course at BCC.
study guides do not match quizzes. quizzes are 99% of your grade. Not clear. does not care if you pass or fail. outdated information. his way or the highway. your not aloud to speak in class unless answering to him. if tardy marks you absent. power tripper. not recommended. If you care about your education take my word for it.
If you want an easy A, take his class. Just show up and read. But if you want to take a sociology class with discussions and be interested, don't take this one.
This would have been a great class but the prof is all over the place. He often appears unprepared, stops and start abruptly and the material and stats are at a minimum of ten years old. It appears that asking questions irritates him or he'll quickly move on with his lecture. Using a scantron for a sociology test with no feedback is irritating.
Theres LOT of data and studies to wade through but he makes the class real by connecting it to current events and showing videos that make you want to talk about the subject. Good social science elective.
I really enjoyed this class. If you do the reading and follow his direction, you should have no problems. Do. The. Reading!
What makes his class hard is the test and the way they are set up to trick you. teaching isn't about fooling a student, it's helping them grasp the concepts of the subject. And all he does is re-use power point slides with out dated data. Another thing his hand writing is illegible, so that made class hard to follow as well.
I really enjoyed Marks class! The textbook we used was amazing and made it very easy to follow along. Attendance truly matters for this class! If you attend a majority of the classes and take all 3 tests, hell drop your lowest score. Allows many opportunities to receive extra credit such as weekly quizzes from the textbook readings and a paper.
I didn't have a great experience. Prof talks over people and doesn't allow for other points of view. Couldn't wait for lecture to end
He was rude to me when i ask questions. He is unorganized. He test and the material dont match. I would recommend a different professor
Overly analytical, dissects your responses. I feel he is knowledgeable in what he teaches, BUT if you don't catch his point in what he wants you to touch on in your responses - he does not give credit. Maybe a good course for a sociology major but for a student who is only taking this course as a requirement - find another instructor..
He really knows the subject, he makes the lectures interesting, and gives lots of helpful feedback on your posts. Glad I took it.
