Good morning! Good morning!

Who knows what he's talking about anyway? His notes are worst than the textb
his midterms are hard..but that prepares you for the final.. final.. so easy...
likes to talk
Overhead notes are helpful; he likes to talk a bit in depth. Demos are very cool

very happy-go-lucky sort of prof...makes chem just a bit more fun =)
such a hard course, he talked way beyond my level
Very helpful and enthusiastic about Chemistry.
easy if u read ur text
pretty good prof, wish i had him for 123
His enthusiasm kinda rubs off on you. He's one of the few great UBC profs!
weird jerking movements of the head; you might need Ritalin, but OK overall
5 words. BILL NYE the SCIENCE GUY.!!!
Smart, good prof, has a funny laugh, quizzes are crazy but helpful, listen carefully to what he says because he gives hints on what he's putting on the quizzes!

Gives fair quizzes. His overhead notes are useful, so go to his class!
Good morning! (Waves hands in air...) GOOD MORNING!
awesome notes!!
Awesome Teacher...I am telling you if you get this guy..keep him! They should have him for Chem 123! Such a good teacher!
great prof... awesome notes... explaines things very clearly...
great notes! very clear in class. his quizzes are very helpful and very similar to problem set. has a weird laugh but otherwise a great chem prof. he really knows the material unlike other profs
awesome teacher! very into the lecture, notes are nicely presented on the overhead making it easy to follow and copy. quizzes are very helpful in keeping you on task. midterm was a bit hard, but overall, this was a good class!
Very good prof
2 carbon-based thumbs way up. was like totally helpful in all of his office hours, and out of office hours. and when he answered all of my questions in class. remember the one about boron, section 101? THAT WAS AWESOME!
harsh stoked on this prof, he was awesome! made the course wicked easy
you're in luck if you have him for chem 121. he does his best to make sure his students are caught up in the material.
really good... after you've taken higher level chem courses, you'll appreciate him even more. good notes, fair marker, not too dull.
super teacher! totally clear and his notes are awesome =D
Awesome prof. As far as chem 121 is concerned you can't do better.
cool prof with good notes
amazing prof...notes are easy to follow and very systematic..lectures are engaging..tricky quizzes though, but, i'll definitely recommend him
very good prof great notes ..heard he's much better than other profs from my friends in other sections
he can be funny once in a while. Midterm avg was 48%. I wrote the final 2 days ago and it was absolutely ridiculous!! Notes didnt explain most of the things that were asked about on the exam!!DAM CHEMISTRY! Hes a decent prof but dont expect amazing marks in this class
best chem prof! great notes, clear presentation and cool demonstrations! the exams are quite hard but it's common for all sessions... good luck =)
He is brilliant. Amazing professor. Prepared us SO well for the final. His notes are clear and precise! DEFINATELY best chem prof by far! for chem 121
Amazing chem prof. Will clearly explain all difficult concepts and makes them seem easy. Definitely recommend this prof for first year chemistry.
this prof's is good but this course is tooo freaking hard avg for midterm was a fail and final seemed harder than previous years
great prof!! loves teaching and gives out great notes and well prepares you for exams!! i only studied his notes and didn't even opened the chem text book and ended up with an A+ =)
An exceptional instructor for a difficult course. Was very enthusiastic during his lectures and, as stated by many of the previous posts, his notes were extremely helpful in preparing for the final. Definitely one of the best profs I've had so far in first year.
Just follow his notes for the final, dun listen to what other students' profs. He's lectures are so briliiantly explained that if you don't pay attention to his lectures, you are not going to get a very good grade! Oh, yes, if you have problem just email him, he replies very quickly!
VERY useful notes and clear lectures.DONT EVER fall asleep in his class --> sleeping in his class, bad idea! Makes everyday analogy for hard concepts for our easy understanding. THIS is THE prof to have for chem 121.
Enthusiastic, considerate, tries to help students, and doesn't make us feel like we're just being pushed through the system. Notes are ok and his explanations are great. compared to the other profs I'd say go for Thachuk. midterm was hard but I suck at chem.
notes and lecture r very great and useful~ very helpful. Dr. Thachuk is recommended.~
great class notes. The material seems daunting at first but you get used to it. He prepared us well for the final.
not a great prof. clear notes but does not prepare for the exams. not interesting.

You have this guy, you get A+ in chem121 w/o studying, end of story. He is just so cool, totally awesome, totally rocks. Cuz of his intelligence he explains everything so well.
Very intelligent and articulate. Unfortunately he has to rush over group theory and character table due to limit in time.
He teaches well and has a good sense of humor. But be careful with the information he gives for CaF2. (He may not remember it since it has been 5 years ago)
his writing is hard to read, so sit closer to the front if u can... his laser pen is kinda distracting :P
he's a very nice teacher. he's so cute, like a kid. he has a wheezy laugh, but it makes everyone laugh. his quizzes are fair, and he doesnt ask a lot of trick questions, so they're easy... if you study a bit. but he's fair, and answers your questions well.
This is a hard course. And taking that into consideration, Thachuck is a good prof. He's funny, the classic chem geek. He seems like such a little kid, and yet genius at the same time. He's organized and open to questions. As long as you study, you're good to go.
notes are extremely organized and clear, an extremely effective prof, extremely helpful and is willing to offer long and frequent office hours (unlike most other profs) to meet the needs of his students, he also has an excellent sense of humor
Nice guy. Notes are long-winded, but clear. He gives intimidatingly long (but not impossible) problem sets, but the rewards far outweigh the time and work involved.
Good prof, clear and easy to understand, tough course though
Dr. Thachuk is pretty cool... he's very very very smart when it comes to theoretical stuff (quantum etc), but always disagrees with the "simplistic" view taken by the textbook... so he does make me confused at times. Otherwise, he is extremely helpful, and replies emails pretty quickly. He also doesn't mind taking time to answers question :)
Gives good, clear notes, although a lot of material is not covered in class. Thus PRE-READ for most effective learning. He's really good about taking the time to answer questions in class. This course is pretty tough, although it may not seem so in the beginning. Overall, a really good prof.
A+ prof. Although the course gets progressively harder, he tries to put concepts into prospective by relating old and new material so you can see how they're connected. Excellent at explaining concepts, great sense of humour, patient and helpful when answering all questions (held an exam review session unlike other profs), and engages students.
He is a friendly prof, and does his job! Recommended.
There are better profs out there. He does stupid things where you and a group of 4 have to present in front of the whole class, probably a turn off for many. He sidetracks a lot. Like I said, there are better profs
Thachuk is great. He cares about students, dances to explain things and engages the room. His TA Erin is even better. Other than having notes in too many forms though, the course is fun, though extremely difficult.
He's fantastic! He gets so excited in lecture he really engages the whole class to learn. I found his notes very clear and easy to study. He really wants you to succeed and makes the problem sets hard but worth more than the midterm. If you do the problem sets and understand them you'll have no problem with his exams.
Good Prof
He's really funny and great at explaining things.
Professor Thachuk was the best professor I had last term. Very accommodating and you can tell he wants you to receive the best grade you can. His lectures are very easy to follow as long as you go through the pre lecture videos. Explains concepts in a way you can understand very easily. Would definitely recommend choosing his section.
He's nice.
Great prof! Class always goes by so quickly, gives us a little break in the middle of a 1.5hr lecture and is open to answering a lot of questions during that time. You can tell he's really passionate about his field and teaching, his lectures are quite fun, he's really funny and takes the time to thoroughly answer questions.
Great lectures. Only issue was that he was a hard grader.
Dr Thachuk was a great and enthusiastic professor for CHEM 404. Attendance is highly recommended because the in-class explanations are examinable. His criteria for some assignments is a little vague, but he is very helpful in answering questions, especially outside of class hours.
Thachuk clearly loves his job. He is super wholesome but his teaching style was a little difficult for me. As someone who struggled with chem, he seemed to skip over the basic stuff and go directly into explaining the difficult material which made it hard to follow along. Office hours are helpful. He gave a short break mid lecture which was nice.
Thachuk is patient, entertaining, caring, and passionate about his job. Although he may explain concepts in a rather abstract way and not everyone can understand, his explanations take time to digest and actually comprehensive and useful for the exam. Having Thachuk is a blessing and his classes goes by a blink of an eye!
He takes the time to explain the material instead of just reading off the slides. Sometimes his explanations were a bit abstract or hard to grasp, but he also records all his lectures, so it's quite easy and convenient to go back and check up on what you missed. Try to register for his section or ask a friend for the link to his lecture recordings.
Always records his lectures, which is very accessible. When students didn't understand difficult content, he would always explain every detail until the students understood. Very nice and caring professor, and sometimes makes funny jokes in class. Would love to have him teach one of my courses again.
Dr. Thachuk is such a lovely prof. He is clearly passionate about teaching, he has a great sense of humour, and is a very wholesome and kind man. He gives great lectures and is kind enough to break up the longer lectures with a break. He has easily been one of my favourite profs so far.
Thachuk is AMAZING! He is really funny in the lectures and he explains a lot of difficult concepts really well through simple examples that people can understand easily. The only difficult thing about this course was how difficult his writing was to read.
Mark is a very nice professor. He makes jokes and tries to teach to the best of his ability. He also makes sure that all classes are live-streamed and recorded. However, his handwriting is quite a task to decipher and sometimes he does not understand the material for the course (redox chem).
Dr.Thachuk is an amazing lecturer, he is funny and knows how to take a difficult subject and transform it into an easier, more manageable, experience. The course itself is really hard, and having a good chemistry background (for no matter the session) is really helpful.
Despite the course being quite intensive, Dr. Thachuk was amazing at breaking concepts down and explaining them very well.
Prof Thachuk is very good at teaching in a specific way, and if you happen to learn that way (as I found most students did) you will enjoy the lectures and do great, if you don't learn that particular way Thachuk has a very difficult time clarifying concepts.
Although chem 154 was a difficult class, I found that having prof Thachuk mad it way easier. I personally didn't go to most lectures, but he literally recorded all of them, and was super easy to reach for things like academic concessions and such.Overall I would say he's an amazing teacher
Thachuk is passionate and takes his time explaining difficult concepts. His handwriting is often very difficult to read, however.
Mark is a great person and is very nice when explaining things, but the course is very difficult and there's so much material that he can't cover it all. He doesn't explain things in the best way but he tries really hard and is very sweet
Mark is amazing at teaching and explains some concepts well. However, sometimes, he might be "distracted" by insightful questions and go off-topic. What I appreciate the most is that he records all his lectures, which is helpful to me if I get lost during lectures.
If you are in 154 and have space in your schedule to go to Thachuk's lectures I'd highly recommend you do. He is an amazing lecturer and one of my favourite profs and UBC so far. CHEM 154 is a very hard course but that is not necessarily his fault, he teaches the content clearly, and while he may trail off on tangents he always covers all content.
Excellent prrof with great lectures. His lectures move at just the right pace, and cover the content that will be on the exam. The time spent per subject in lecture is similar to the weightings of those subjects on the exam.
